How to Establish True Balance so You Don't Go Crazy : how to establish true balance so you don't go crazy. The idea of work life balance is a popular idea in today's world, and essentially the goal of work life balance is to balance the amount of time that you spend working with the amount of time that you spend doing other things like spending time with your family, your friends and you're working on your hobbies and things like that. And on the surface it looks like a good idea. But there's many issues with this outdated model for achieving balance. Like so many popular ideas, it's a superficial approach that doesn't dive deep enough into the core of the issue. Also, the underlying assumption is that work isn't something that you enjoy doing. So it's basically a model that says, Make sure you spend plenty of time not working so that you can recharge from work. And while there is absolutely value to making sure that you do things other than Onley work , there is a better way to see this issue entirely. And I think that, you know, personally, I think that for too long people have subjected themselves to believing that they have to do something they don't want to do for their entire lives so that they can spend some time doing what they really want to do on the weekends and when they retire. And if you're watching this, chances are they you have broken free from that nine to fiver mindset. So you understand the futility of that way of life. The reality is that many of us are involved in passion based businesses. The idea of growing and developing our businesses is something that we enjoy. You could say that some people have in view that as a hobby, it's a hobby based business or a passion based business. And there in lies, part of the challenge. Because sometimes we get so wrapped up in what we're doing that we lose balance in our overall health suffers as well as our relationships. So how do we prevent this from happening? Well, we can avoid the downsides by practicing what I call true balance. Now, what is true balance exactly? Well, true balance is first and foremost about inner balance, so it's more about what you do on a moment by moment basis. It's how you move through your day rather than trying to measure how many hours you spend working versus not working in. You know the benefits of achieving a certain degree of inner balance is that you'll think more clearly. You'll make less mistakes, you'll increase your productivity and you'll enhance your creativity. So how do we go about actually achieving true balance? How do we find true balance? Well, the first thing that you need to do is you need to increase your awareness, so what you want to begin to do is pay attention to your feelings As you go throughout your day, begin to notice when you're starting to feel stressed. See if you can notice your stress at a very subtle level and nip it in the bud, so to speak. It's far easier to get back into balance. What most people do, is they. Honestly, they are walking around dazed and confused, and it literally in a trance most of the time. And so they're missing the subtle and not so subtle cues that they're receiving from their body all the time now also monitor your cycles and your patterns. So what do we mean by that? So as you go throughout your day, what you want to do is begin to clue into when you get hungry. What time of day? Your most productive. How long can you work before you start feeling that sense of burnout? So you want to start to identify some of your cycles and patterns. Once you've identified some of those, what you can do is things like this. You can schedule your day around times that you feel the most productive, creative or energetic. You can make sure that you schedule a break time around the time you normally get hungry. Things like that. True balance is all about working and living in a way that is mawr in sync with your natural rhythms. So you know that's one of the hugest benefits of being self employed. You know, one of the things that I hated almost more than anything else when I was an employee was feeling like there was always like I was always having to do things that were out of sync with how I was feeling. It was like I was forcing my life to fit within the tight confines of someone else's structure. So, in other words, on days where I really needed more rest. I would have to force myself to go to work. I would have to put off eating when I was hungry because it wasn't lunchtime yet. Things like that and the whole thing just felt very unnatural to me. Next, consider working in 90 minute time blocks. So instead of sitting there for four hours straight, what you might consider experimenting with is setting a timer for 90 minutes, closing down all distractions and working in a laser focused fashion for that 90 minutes. Then what you do is you want to get up, stretch and take a short 5 to 10 minute break. Now, if you're feeling stressed out or you're starting to feel burned out, you can use the breathing exercise that I'm going to show you in the next lesson as a fast way to get yourself restored. And you can do that while you're on your break because it only takes 5 to 10 minutes to do next. Be sure to schedule time for yourself so well, I believe that the overall work life balance idea is incomplete. I think that there is definitely value in doing things other than working all the time So obviously what that means is make sure that you set aside time for yourself for your friends, for your family, for your hobbies. And the key is you want to make these a priority, otherwise it won't get done. So you can't just fill up your entire day with all this work stuff, and then tell yourself that you're going to take some time for yourself. You have to actually bake it into your day and learn to view it on a day by day basis. So don't save up all your off time for two days. I mean, you may sometimes want to do that, but rather than like working five days straight and then taking two days off, work a pattern in there where you're actually creating at least some time for yourself every single day so that you can avoid burnout. It's far better to maintain balance than it is to try to find balance again once you've lost it. So are we starting to see kind of the difference in mind sets here? A lot of people are What they do is they just go, go, go, go, go, go, go Until the weekend and then they sit there completely deflated, and they can't even enjoy their time off. Most of our they can't. Some people don't feel like they have the energy to go do the things they want to do on their days off, because they're so exhausted from how they how they worked, how they worked during that five days, and then the same thing applies when they try to take vacations. So you want to be balanced as you go through your day. Finally, I would also strongly encourage you to practice meditation for 15 to 20 minutes twice per day. Why? Because as an entrepreneur, finding peace and clarity is essential for you to be able to go the distance with your business. And while I do have a course meditation for beginners, that provides everything you need to establish an effective, consistent practice, you can also find a basic technique simply by googling it. So now that we've covered some ways to begin to achieve greater balance in our lives and our work, please join me in the next video 3. BONUS: An Easy Way to Maintain Composure & Regain Perspective as You Go About Your Day: Now I want to show you how to use the Buddha belly breathing technique for deep relaxation . Now, this is something that you can practice right When you wake up in the morning to quickly get into a relaxed state, you can use at the end of the day to decompress. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes, and all you're gonna do is you're gonna place one hand on your chest and one hand on your stomach, and you're gonna take deep, slow breaths in through the nose and deep breathe deeply from your diaphragm. That's why you have your hand on your chest and you have your hand on your stomach because you don't want your chest to be inflating. You want your diaphragm to be inflating. You're breathing from your stomach. There's no need to count or anything like that. Just do deep breathing in and deep, breathing out 5 to 10 of those from your stomach and do that for about 5 to 10 minutes a day. And what you're gonna find is that just by doing this exercise, it will reduce your heart rate and your blood pressure. Now, if you make this into the habit, and you start doing this for 6 to 8 weeks or more. It's been said that these benefits can actually last longer than that. The good news is, is that as you begin to use these breathing exercises and implement the other techniques and suggestions in this program, you're gonna find that it becomes easier and easier to bring your body in your amo mental and emotional state into a natural state of relaxation and equilibrium so lower in your heart rate and your blood pressure comes with that territory as you become a more relaxed person. Those physical changes they're gonna follow ous well. So now that you have another technique to go out and use to quickly find that natural state of relaxation, now let's move on to the next video. 4.
