1. 1. Introdution: Hey, and welcome to the course. WordPress made easy how to plan. Build and launch her first website for your personal brand in an hour. So, uh, my name is Danny Jail. You and you can find out more about me at Danny jail you dot com on Essentially, I've been career technologist mainly working in the enterprise and startup worlds for building out Web applications, software server infrastructure, a lot of techie stuff. But the passion that I have is really, uh this whole d i y mentality and the fact that anybody can really leverage technology today with the advancements that we've made and the way that technology has been made for users. It's really easy to just pick up and get started at. The problem is there is a lot of information out there. And so what I hope to do and aim to do in this course is to distill all of that in the WordPress world and give you something that you can actually use if you put the steps, action steps into place. And so by the end of this course, you're going to get your website up in about an hour. So if you follow the steps, you will get it. Get your website up in an hour and ah, that's the hardest part of building your brand Online is really just the first step getting your side out there and to start sharing it with the world. And so again, you can find out more about me at didn t j lulu dot com. And in this course, we're going to do three key things. And it's these three things that are really gonna lay the foundation for building our website. Not just now, but you know the same strategies will use when you plan to build out your website and scale it. Maybe you're gonna do a design refresh in the future, but all of these things need to have a foundation and a solid approach when you when you try to do them. So what we're going to do is first plan without without a plan, you're playing the fail. It's kind of like it's not verbatim word for word, but that's so saying by Benjamin Franklin that, you know, it was extremely important to make sure that we're planning cause if you're not planning, um then lots of different unplanned, unforeseen things can happen. It could cause a lot of frustration and you could just end up giving up on your project. And we don't want that. So we're going to do, ah, cover wire framing and why that is so important to really identify the pages that you want to put on your site for your first version. And then we're gonna go into the build phase where we're going to cover hosting the benefits of choosing an excellent hosting provider and how to get our basic word press settings configured in addition to you know which theme we're going to choose and and then getting those key pages created and live on our website, okay. And then follow it. Followed by that is the third phase. And that is the launch fees. This is probably the most exciting phases because now you are ready to take your website and then share it with the world so you don't have to spend a whole lot of money and doing this. In fact, um, you can leverage you know, some of your existing social media networks to get that feedback for free, so low cost marketing strategies will cover that. And then the bonus trading there will be a couple of videos that you can benefit from by finding out how to choose and set up your domain name. There is some common, uh, traps that people can fall into when trying to select the best domain name. We're gonna cover those, and ah, and then we're also to talk about how to choose the best premium theme and some tips that, uh, that you can take advantage of to utilize the most of your time through content, automation, secrets and strategies that you can use to really maximize your effectiveness. Okay. And if you put all these building blocks together, you're gonna have a website up fast. Okay, Okay. Maybe not Maybe that do Kati fast, but you get my point. So you're going to have all your website up and running in no time, okay? And you know, next up, we're gonna cover the foundation. Before we start with our planning, we're going to cover the three key things that you have tohave in order to in a really stay consistent and ah, and really see your project through Ah, Building a website is not an easy task, but it can be a lot. Ah, a lot more enjoyable and fun to enjoy the process if you have these three things in mind, okay? And I also take action and download. The resource is checklist. This checklist is going to provide you some of the recommended resource is that I use for my own websites and you can to Ah, if you have that alongside your following the course when you're ready, you couldn't take advantage of of investigating those resource is and signing up for some of them if you decide to do that. Okay. See you in the next video. 2. 2. The Foundation: Hey, and welcome back in this video, I wanted to just talk about those three things we left off on is why we're choosing WordPress in the first place. Blogging versus content marketing and the mindset that you have to have if you want to make your website a success. So this really is the foundation and, you know, understanding this and, you know, really, um, keeping at the forefront of your mind each and every time you sit down to create content is only going to help you strengthen that foundation so that you don't deviate from, you know, creating that content driving value for your customers, if your audience and to really build your brand and your authority over time. Okay, so you know the first thing why wordpress Okay, we want we want to talk about that. So, um, where press powers over 27% of the Internet, which is amazing because there's so many different content management platforms and systems out there that, you know, 27% of the Internet is actually a really big number. It's the It's the lion's share of the, you know, the market share of all of the content management systems out there now, Um, what's the other benefits? So we know that it's there's a lot of websites out there that are using it. Um, it's, you know, also open source. What does that mean for you means that if you're using a wordpress dot org's website, which is self hosted, you have access to the code. You have access to be able to develop new functionality and add new new plug ins. Maybe you're developing some plug ins, or you have, you know, the just the ability to toe hack your website, build it, design it and make it into, you know, even, ah, full scale application if you decide to, you know, creepy create, you know, software as a service or something like that. So there's a lot of different things you can do with it, um, again, massive plug ins available in support community online that you can't shake a stick at because support is such a big deal, especially if you're d I y ing it and you're doing yourself. You want to make sure that you have the biggest amount of support that's out there. They're Facebook groups. Their forms on wordpress dot org's you know you can find the support that's needed. Okay, now the distinction between dot com and dot org's This is a big thing because, um dot warg in dot com or two different things dot or Gizzi self hosted and scalable developer friendly one, which we just touched on and dot com is more off a software as a service. So where press actually offers a dot com where press dot com um solution and packages for you to pay on and recurring basis similar to other sites like square Space and Wicks and Weebly and those types of websites. But it doesn't give you much control, and there's just a lot less that you can do when it comes to building a site on wordpress dot com. Again, I don't think you know it's It's a bad deal if you want to go that way. But I'm again. I'm trying to tell you what to do to set the foundation and choose something that's going to be scaled when you don't have to worry about the headache of migrating your site from one thing to another later on. When you decide to do that, so choose the dot org's from the beginning, and you'll thank yourself in the long run. Okay? Blogging versus content marketing. Okay, so this is another concept that you have to understand. Blog's alone or not Businesses. Uh, you know, if you if you're writing content and you're sharing much eight today or, you know, Ah, you know what? What you did with your friend's house or whatever it is, you know, like that that's sharing content. And, you know, you've been blogging right posts, but that's not a business, right? And so what do you want to do? What kind of value gonna bring to the table when you read a post? Um, you want to be able to position the content so that you're offering some sort of value to your audience, and you can do that through content, marketing strategies, content marketing strategies would be is, you know, I'm offering you a tutorial on something, and so maybe I offer you may be a content upgrade, and I can put in, you know, an email form so that you can sign up to get that Ah, free checklist or guide. Right now, we have taken the block and turn it into more of a content marketing, uh, you know, engine. And so we want to be able to do that for your content. Okay. And, you know, really, mindset, I have really want to take a minute here to focus on this, because mindset is everything. If you don't have this, um, then you might as well stop watching the video and and then forget about creating a website . I don't want that that happen to you want to be able to get your website up and running and then send me an email or, you know, message me on social media wherever and show me the link semi willing to website. I'd be happy to look at it and critique it, but, you know, it's very important. Have the months it content. Marketing is a long term game, and, you know, But if you choose to do this, I can tell you, um, I'm a testimony that you'll reap huge benefits if you do it correctly. And if you stick with it in the long term. Okay, be patient with yourself. Ah, and always keep learning and implementing, right? So focus on continued education and apply what you learn quickly. That's the only way that you can get feedback from from, you know, your audience members, but also form within from yourself to be able to say Okay. Well, what did I do wrong? How can I improve this? How can I make this, uh, you know, less time consuming or, you know, um, more enjoyable, you know, because you won't enjoy the process, right? So mind says huge. And in the next video, we're going to cover module one, which is all about planning. See in the next video. 3. 3. Planning Wireframe: Hey there. Welcome back, Danny. Here and and this module, we're gonna talk about planning your website, and, ah, one of the most important steps in the whole process. If you don't do this, you're going to certainly not have the best foot Ford when it comes to building a solid foundation. So there's a saying by Benjamin Franklin. That's if you are. If you failed a plan, you are planning to fail. And this cannot be Ah, you know any more? That could be any more truth to that when it comes to building your own website. Okay, so let's get started. Are planning steps are going to be ah, really consisting of this concept called wire framing? And what that is, um is sort of technique that Web designers and developers do Teoh layout sort of the page structure of the site map for how a user can navigate through the website. And so this is very important. Teoh, you know, focus on before you get started with logging in and signing up for accounts and getting into where press and all the other stuff, because this is really gonna help you utilize your time. Ah, much more effectively when you actually have your log in and you go in and you start Teoh get involved in the tech. Okay, so we're gonna talk about auto, show you a wire frame, and then we'll talk about your copy. And really, you know about yourself and how you're going to get that about page up, because that is one of the most important, um, pages when it comes to building your personal brand, okay. And then, you know, the last thing we to do in this something we're doing every single lesson is taking action and sketching out your three key pages. Ah, an about page content. So why freaking one? 01 All right, this is a low fidelity, low tech. Ah, mock up, sort of a little sketch that I've done on piece of paper. And so it was really helps you de clutter and get out. Get the tech out of your way so you can focus on what it is that you are trying to build it . And I do this every time I think about creating a new website, where or a new page or, you know, structure of theme, whatever it might be so that I can focus on. You know what? Where I'm taking my users. And so if you're looking at this on the left hand, upper left hand is the home page. Okay, This is the main landing page where people are gonna come to There's a little logo there. Ah, a couple squiggly lines of top of my navigation primary navigation links. And you could see the line going over to the far right of the screen to the contact page. When someone clicks on that link, they're going to a contact page. And here's some of the things that I'm willing to include. Eso just quickly sketched that out. There is a about link a to bottom of the page right above the foot. Or you can see where it says foot or social, and that's going to give a little excerpt about me. Not nothing full, just a little kind of teaser text. And then they can click on that about link that call to action. So see ta is called action, and that's really that, you know, action. You want tohave on each and every one of your pages or posts so that you can ah take your user through an experience. All right? What do you want them to do next? Otherwise, we're just gonna leave your site. So it's very important to to understand that, um, about goes to the about page, and then you have your home. Okay, So ah, without getting in some, you know, two involving some of the details here. You don't necessarily have to have an offer. We're getting our version one side up. If you do, that's great, but but just get, you know, a little bit. Ah, about yourself up on your home page. Little excerpt. Ah, linked to your about page that gives you more information and a link to your contact page. So we're gonna walk through that. But this is really kind of the high level Ah, sketch of what that might look like. So in the next video, we're going to take a look at your about page. And what are the key elements to create the copy that is needed for a successful personal branded about Paige? Take care and see you next. Video 4. 4. Planning About Page: Hey, and welcome back, Danny. Here. And in this lesson, you're going to learn about Ah, the most important copy aspect of getting your first website online. And this is all about creating a copy for your about page. Now, um, a lot of people think your about page is all about you is all about who you are and why you're you know why you're so great and all that other type of types of stuff. And while there are some elements of that woven into, um into your copy, the most important thing about it is what's in it for me. And that's what your reader is looking at when they're reading about their about page, um, they want to see, well, how how can he relate to you in some way or, uh, you know, what can you offer them to help them in their transformation? If your if your guitar teacher, you don't wanna be listing all your albums that you played in the tours that you've should bet on, You know, in your in your performing career, because they don't really care about that if they're, if they're going to your website because they wanna learn from you. Maybe they want to see that. You know, you struggled for years on learning how to play guitar and to until you found, ah, strategy that helped you learn how to create and play music faster, right? And those types of things, so that you can help you can relate to the goal that they're trying to achieve, right. So while you're doing that, though, you want to be ableto get personal, uh, by doing something like sharing 3 to 5 fund, fax or personal things about yourself and sharing that so that they can, you know, get to know you as a person. You know, if you walk up to someone and you just met any in a party, you know, you have these sort of discovery process and you, you know, talk about each other. You ask, you know each other what you do for a living or what you guys enjoy doing, you know, outside of work or whatever it is so that you can build a report with that person. So you want to be able to do that as well. But just keep in mind that your your main objective is to you know, get them to sort of know, like and trust you in a in a very brief sense, it's gonna take time before you can build that up with your audience. But you want to give that icebreaker to them and and then, you know, focus the rest. Your copy. On what? Why they should listen to you. What qualifies you as an expert and how and what you could do for them, right? And so I'm just going to switch over to my website and kind of show you first half of what that might look like. All right, so we're at my website daily jaleo dot com. And if you remember going over that wire frame sketch Ah, where I sketched the home and about in contact pages on a piece of paper. This is sort of the same kind of you, just in the real world sense. So I've got the website here. My home page gives me a little bit of a picture of myself and a little bit of the description off who I am, What I'm offering kind of very quickly. Um, I've got a call to action. Teoh, get them to sign it for WordPress launchpad, which is, you know, uh, free offer that I offer to help people build ah websites fast. And then there's some more information here kind of some of the three cornerstone ideas that I talk about and oh, my oh, my website. And then, you know, reading about my story here which links to my about page, a little snippet of who I am. But then, Maura, that information's on my about page. So I've got a link there. It'll take them to my about page and all my social links at the bottom and at the very top . Here, you the primary navigation. You can see. I have a contact page here as well, right? So contact about at home So I can linked to these pages via the primary navigation link here. Or like down here, I can click on, read my story. There's a link that takes me right, takes them right to the about page, and you can see the page right at the end of the you are l hear about All right. So that's the about page. And, you know, I talk about a little bit of personal stuff about me and you know, my, my, you know, background as far as my ethnicity. And, you know, uh, Christian, Chinese, French and Irish descent. Ah, guitarist musician. So I was in a rock band, um, alternative rock band early and Mike, my, uh, early two thousands late nine late nineties, Really? To thousands. Um, college career, post college career. And I'm dating myself, but ah ah, yes. So I was doing that. Now I have a little linked to a soundcloud video here. This is just a little, you know, video of me. A couple years ago, my mother passed away, and I, you know, did a cover song for her. And so that was something that I had upon Soundcloud and want to share that and a little bit about, like, you know, I like I like to play tennis and not awesome times player, but I can hold my on the court, and so you get the idea. So I'm basically just sharing a little bit about myself. That about, you know, my technical expertise and, you know, my you know my story as faras, you know, uh, taking a hiatus from the corporate world and doing diving into online business and then, you know, kind of coming back to the corporate world and ah, and still keeping my brand alive and just, you know, that's my story. And what I've got down here is, you know, how can I help? Um, I can, you know, there's a few bullet points in here. You know how I might be able to help a potential audience. Ah, and then that's, you know, pretty much it some links to my my block content. Now, this is a lot of stuff here. You don't need all this. This is gonna happen over time. This didn't happen in one sitting for me. Um, so I just want to caution you on that. You should have maybe 3 to 5 paragraphs at most. Like this is enough. Well above the fold here. Which is just kind of where the site kind of cuts off. Here. You just want to have a few paragraphs of who you are. You know, share Look a little bit about yourself and why your readers should listen to you. You know what makes you an expert, and you know, we're to talk about some of the areas you might get stuck on. But really, that's what it comes down to and own it. It'll be confident in writing this stuff down, even if it doesn't sound. Ah, if you know, if you don't sound 100% confident, you know it's hard to sell yourself. Start to, you know, sort of self the idea of you being an expert if you're writing, you know this copy about yourself. But trust me, you know more than you think you know. Okay, about whatever topic it is that you want to talk about. OK, so it is take action time. So I've already done the 1st 1 for you. So you can just, you know, take a sigh of relief because there's one thing that is just the has been done for you. That is the wire frame. The home about contact, um, sort sketch that we've done. That's all you really need to understand is that you need a home and unit about you need a contact page so that you've got those three pages that air listed for you. Ah will create those when we go into the building phase. But for now, just grab a piece of paper. Write down, um, one social media platform that you are going to include on your contact page two, go ahead and write down home about contact next to contact. Just write down one social media platform that you're going to include on your contact page . Okay? And then right. 3 to 5 paragraphs to include for your about page. All right, We want to make sure that Ah, we're focusing on what's in it for them. Um, and share a few fun facts about yourself, who you are and what you can help them with. All right. And, ah, you know, we're not going for perfection here. What I recommend is actually setting a time on this. Put 5 to 10 minutes of just writing down who you are. What? You're about a few fun facts about yourself. Whatever comes to mind, don't spend too much time on this. First things that come to you come to your mind, and then a fuse sentences on. You know what you can help your potential reader with. Okay, So go ahead and do that now and I'll see you in the next video. 5. 5. Planning Where You Might Get Stuck: Okay, so where you might get stuck and this is very important. I want to cover these real quick because you know what? I've done it. I know a lot of people I worked with in the past have done this, and it's just a common commonality between anyone who's trying to build a personal brand online. So first off is comparing yourself to other brands. Just don't do it. Trust me on this one, and I know it's hard. It's easier said than done. But just know that when you're looking at other brands like there are people that have been doing this for years, I mean years like, you know, five years or 10 years plus that have been working on this day in and day out for a long time. So So, first and foremost, don't compare yourself to other people. Um, there's only one person that you need to, uh, compare yourself to, and that's yourself. And really, just knowing that you're taking the steps to improve is ah is really all you need to know and take stock in and really, you know, congratulate yourself for even taking that step. Most people don't they kind of just, you know, it's it's uncomfortable for them. And so they just give up and just go back to whatever was they're comfortable with, all right? And I know that's not you, because you would be watching this course if if that was a case. So Number two is doubting your skills, right? That kind of goes in with that, you know, comparison And and, you know, doubting your skills is you know, you have to know that you have them own it. You just need to be one step ahead of your potential audience. And, ah, you know, that doesn't matter Whatever. Whatever you're doing, whether you're, you know, teaching business skills or, you know, technology skills or or guitar skills or musical skills, whatever it might be right, I don't doubt your skills because chances are, you know, there are people that aren't where you are at, Um, and that's the truth. There's not. Chances are that it is the truth. There are people out there in the world that you are more advanced than they are even know if you don't consider yourself more advanced. Okay, so so just know that and take a breath and take action, Because here's thing. You know, if you don't take action, if you don't start working on, you know, creating, then you're not gonna have anything to look back on and improve. Okay? So really, you know, just take a breath, take action. And, you know, just give yourself that that slack too improve and know that things were not going to be They're not gonna be perfect. Okay? So just go ahead, take a breath, take action. I see the next video. 6. 6. Build Intro: Hey and welcome back. We are now in module to Can you believe it? It's been going really fast. So if you have to go and review any of the other videos, go ahead and do that. But we're really getting, ah, our website up and running in this in this model. So we're gonna build our website and these are the topics that you were going to cover by the time you're done with this, we're going to you have a website and be able to launch it. And ah, it's gonna be exciting. I'm really excited for you. And so in these steps, we're gonna go over the build steps and really learn about the types of hosting that's that's really required a za foundational key foundational element of your website. Probably the most important things as far as your website is considered, we'll talk about that and then Senate for hosting getting your WordPress settings up and running, getting them configured, and we're really gonna focus on really just the key things you need to look out for. Um when just getting started, OK? And then choosing installing your theme and creating those key pages that we already kind of worked on in our planning phase. Okay, so, uh, we're going to start with the types of hosting soc next body. 7. 7. Types Of Hosting: Hey, and welcome to this video on types of hosting and we're to talk about the two key types of hosting that you need to consider before registering for your first hosting account. Now, the 1st 1 is shared hosting. There's companies like Psych around Blue Host, host Gator. Now, these air just cos that I've used in the past Ah, and actually, in a particular order, I would recommend if you're going to go with them. So ah, site ground is definitely the number one shared hosting provider my my opinion and more on that later. But, uh, managed hosting managed hosting is a step up. Ah, and there's a lot of these companies out there now They're starting to come out there. Presidium is a top one that I personally use and recommend from my website. There's Web, we're press engine, which is which is similar. We've got flywheel and studio precise, and these were just some of the few that are out there. But, um so you know, when it comes to these these, you know, types of hosting, you need to think about one thing, and that is, you know, how important is the foundation of your house right now. I'm going to before I cover the costs and the pros and cons here. I just want to touch on that for a second. Because if you don't have a solid foundation, then you're gonna have mawr. Expensive, costly. Ah, things that happened down the road, you know, that are going Teoh, you know, really, you know, hit you where it hurts the most, and that could be in your wallet. So when you're looking at these, just think, you know, even though some of these may be lower cost per month, they are not Likas faras. The shared hosting is concerned they're not the number one recommended approach If you can afford ah, little bit more per month because you're gonna get a lot more, Um, and it's going to scale and grow with you over time, so all right, so shared hosting the pro for that is the low cost. Okay, so you can get some, you know, hosting providers out there. A lot of them start around the single digits. $4 up to $12 a month really depends on the plan that you're going to choose. And, you know, that's kind of the number one benefit is the low cost. Now the con is it's high maintenance you got. You have spent a lot more time maintaining your own backups. You've got to get your own back of plug ins and security plug ins and and, uh, performance plug ins and do your own WordPress updates and things like that. And so it can become an administrative nightmare. And, ah, you know your time is money if you're if you're trying to build a brand online or, you know a business and you don't have time to be to be, ah, focused on all of that other non revenue generating stuff. So one of the other things is another con is performance and availability is not as good because you're on a shared server. You're sharing hardware resource is and memory and all these things computing power with other websites. That's how they can get you in at such a low cost. Now, if you're just starting out, um, you can you can go with this. It's better than doing nothing, but I highly recommend you consider if you can't afford a little bit more to go. The ah, the more on that managed hosting side. He can always migrate, and a lot of these companies will offer of migration service for you. But it's just easier to just, you know, not have to worry about that. And Ah, and have your your foundation built from the beginning. So pro all were press updates or don't for you back up security. Everything is done for you in a managed hosting provider. Ah, depending upon which hosting provider you choose, they may or may not include some of these, but I'm just in general giving you kind of the overall feel of what I've managed hosting provider could do for you. So you got pro Another pro user friendly admin paddle. A lot of these have a back end administrative panel that is a lot more easy to easier to use than something like, Ah, see panel. If you've never seen see panel, it can be, you know, somewhat of the ah of a nightmare. There's a lot of extra services and things like that that you don't need that are in your face. And so, um, that's why I use presidium. Ah, it's it's definitely saved me. Ah, lot when it comes to getting lost in maintaining my website, then the other con is higher cost, you know, 21 to 30 hours a month. Well, uh, that can be a little bit expensive for some of you out there. But one thing that you need to consider if you compare how much time and effort you're going to put in with shared hosting. And you, I'm telling you this from personal experience over the past 10 years is that if I knew what I knew now back then I would have chose a managed hosting provider all day long because I would have saved a lot of time and stress and actually quit doing. We're press for a little bit because I got so overwhelmed with it. And when I managed hosting came along and I decided to do that. I was just like, where has this been all my life? So you know, it's not really a con at all. It will save you more over time. Okay, Now take action time. Download the resource is checklist and register for your hosting account. Now highly recommend again using proceedings, micro plan. But if you're on a budget, go ahead. and sign up with. You can sign up with psych around and make sure you do that before we can go into the next video and the next video we'll talk about. Once you've got your account set up, we're gonna go into the WordPress settings. See you then it 8. 8. WordPress Settings & Installation Demo: all right. And in this video, we are going to set up our basic WordPress settings. There's a lot under the hood here in your WordPress admin panel, so I don't want to get overwhelmed. There's only a few things you really need to look at before we move on to slicing our theme and getting our key pages up and published. Okay, So what we're going to do is we log in to your WordPress dashboard, you're going to go to your WP admin, So whatever your domain name is, slash WP admin. I don't have my domain set up yet on this installation. And so that's why has this weird number that's I p address. But, ah, you go head to head to type in WP admin at the end of your installation. And when you do that, you're going to get logged into your administrative panel. This is what's gonna look like something similar to this. Ah, and you have some notifications here on, you know, some tips on customizing shortcuts to creating block posts, pages and, uh, previewing your site. There's a lot of different things under the hood here, but what I want to show you is the most important thing before we start creating seven things some of your pages and what not So that is in your settings. So when you goto wordpress settings, you're gonna go to the general link, okay? And in this general link, you've got some options here. So you have the site title. The tagline. A good example is my website. And if you look at the top here in the tab, you see, it says home because this is the home page and then has the title and the subtitle. So if I hover over that, you see the tech show up and that's what I have for my for my title and my subtitle. So we're gonna go back to to this sites using inside title and tagline, right, So were oppressed. You are. L you want to make sure these two match OK, so whatever domain name you have, you wanna put in in both sections and your email address, you want to make sure it is an email that you can be contacted for, Things like password resets on things like that. So everything else you can leave default. Just change your time zone and your site tag and title and make sure that your wordpress U R l Inside your address you are or the same along with an email address that you prefer to use. Okay, now, when we go back to settings, we're gonna go down to the Perma links. Okay, so this part, the Perma links, are These are the addresses that will show up in your your else. So when you type in the name of a post, it's going to resolve to that. And this just gives you some different formats and what it would look like when someone goes to that post. So we want to select the post name and for a couple reasons, one. This is just It's just easier to read. Um, you have your website slash and then the post actual post name, so it's easier to read. But, you know, it's it's also better for Seo as well. So go ahead and select that and safe changes, and that's it. So basic settings recap. We're going to talk about hitting the settings button, going to general and changing site tag title. We're press address, you or else I'd address your oral making sure they match email Address that you want to be contacted and making sure change your time zone. Andi, if you wish to change anything else we can. But I like to leave everything else as a default. Save those changes, then go down to the permitting structure and select post name save changes. And you're all set. So in the next video, we will cover, uh, how to get your theme all set up. See that? 9. 9. Choosing Theme: all right, We are all set with getting our basic settings up on our WordPress dashboard, and now we're gonna work on our theme. Okay, So before we get started, I just want to touch on two things When it comes to themes. One is there are two types free and premium, which are the pay themes. So, you know, the benefit of having a free theme is it allows you to get a pre configured, designed and start fast without happened to lay any money down on the table. Um, some of the the the downsides of that is that, you know, if you looking for themes support, chances are you're not going to find quality support, because again, it's a free theme. Now, when it comes to premium, ah, premium themes usually have some sort of support costs built into them so that there is a support lifeline if you need it. All right. So when it comes to needing to customize the theme or or update the theme, you should be able to reach out to that company that you purchased that premium paid theme . Now, not all theme providers are evil. Some of them have different support experiences versus others and maybe not so not so great . And so I have a bonus section and you can check out the links in the resource checklists as well. Ah, bonus video on how to select the right paid premium theme for your brand. And you can really I've tried a bunch of different ones over the past. And so Ah, the ones that I talk about are the ones that I have had excellent experiences when it comes to their support. So go ahead and check that out. But we're gonna go over to the WordPress dashboard and start working on our theme. Okay, so in your dashboard there is a link in the in the left panel here called Appearance. You're gonna click on that and you click themes. Okay, so here is where all of your themes will reside. Any new ones you install? Ah, once that are not active, will say activate or live preview so you can do a sort of live preview and see what it looks like before I click on that will show you before you actually apply. Ah, any any of the settings for that theme and save it to your site. So ah, lot of these air very basic. And this is this is important because you want to start basic. You don't want to go crazy when you're just getting started. So go ahead and select one of these if you have, ah, big image that you want to display or you like the way this looks and maybe you don't have a picture yet, but, you know, you want to set up something like this and you can go ahead and select it. Okay? Just know that your your website is not gonna look exactly like these websites. That's one thing that a lot of people get tripped up on is they think that, you know, as soon as they apply the steam, everything's gonna look exactly the way it does. You gotta start putting content of your own to really give it that branding feel and make it your own. Okay, so for this one, we're just gonna select 2017. It's what's installed. If you want to see how it looks, you go to my blawg at the top left click on visit site, and that will kind of give you a preview of what it looks like. Your site title and tagline. And then in here we've got on our home page. We've got some of the recent posts showing up and on the right side. We've got some other links. Two categories and archives, kind. I search for up there too. Okay, so we're gonna go back to our themes and customize, okay? And what we're gonna focus on here is the site identity. So make sure if you have a logo, you want to put it in there, you can go ahead and click on that. But if not again, I recommend you just getting this up and running. That's focused on the content. Put in your site title. Put in Danny's blawg. My awesome log. Okay, so you can see it automatically updating the site title and tagline as I type. And these little pencils will allow you to get directly to the place in the left hand widget columns with that you need to go to. So this is really great if you don't know where, um, the settings are in the left hand side here. Since there's a lot of options, just scroll on the page and look at what you want to add it. Like the menu up here. You click on that and it'll take you right into exactly where you need to read it. So this is a great feature that more press offers. Um, each time, the update there always added some new, more user friendly shortcuts. And so this is going to allow you to select the top menu. This one has already been pre configured, so you can see out of the gate. I didn't set these up. These air coming out of the box home about Ah, your block archive, Which is not something, though. We're going to be working on for our our building component, but we're gonna be working on the home about in contact page. So that's it. You've got your your theme set up and you're going to go ahead and hit. Publish, hit, Publish. Okay, when we get out of the customizer view and visit our site and here we go, your blogged in your navigation. Ah, nice giant image in the background. I'm gonna leave until I get another shot of myself that I want to include and you're all set to go. All right, So in the next video, we're going to start working on our home page and really, I'll show you how to get some of the images and stuff applied and some of the content and some of the widgets that air in the background, and then we'll work on doing the about page and contact page. So go ahead and apply the theme. Make sure you've got your theme free theme applied, and I'll see you in the next video. 10. 10. Home Page Widgets: All right. Welcome back. This video, we're going to set up our home page. So you should have selected your theme already. If you didn't, I highly recommend just choosing one of the free default themes. This one is the 2017 theme. And, ah, if you pick the same theme, it'll be easier for you to follow along as each theme has different customization options. Okay, so we're gonna go in here into this is the default image and everything that's in the background we're going to customize. So go to customize were to do a couple things to simplify the layout because a lot of these themes, like toe jam, packed all the features that are in it. But you don't necessarily need to use all of them. And I think that's one thing that people get stuck with. They just feel they have to configure every single thing in it. And so we're going to strip down to just a few basic. So we want to keep this background Ah, header image. But we want to get you know, we don't want necessarily scrolling background image. Um, this one is not very important. It's actually ah featured image, which is another topic will get we'll get onto. There's a lot of other things involved around where images reside in your WordPress website . But Tom, but this is just another image from another page as well as this one and this one, and so we don't necessarily need those for our home page. So what we're going to do is remove those items. Now, if you're not sure how to navigate in this left menu, the best thing to do and I highly recommend is just doing what you see is what you get. And that's really, um, that's a term That's a phrase that's used for visual, ah, editing and visual page buildings. You edit what you see, and it will take you to the widget area in the left pain so that you can edit the content or the configuration for that item. So Okay, so we're gonna remove these background sections, and so to really find out where they're at, we could go in this menu here in the left hand menu here and try to find out where the items are. We're just gonna click on We're not gonna do that. So we're just going to click on what we see in our editor, and we're going to hide everything but this this top main header image sections. So I'm gonna click on the little pencil and will take us right here into the left pain. You can see this is the home page section, and we're going to just take that out by choosing the select option. So it'll just take that image out for us, okay? And then we're going to do the same thing for front page section to content. Um, if you click on the pencil, it'll bring you will highlight the front page section to content drop down box. We're going to do the same thing for that. We're gonna click that off, okay? And then down in the front page three content section, we're gonna go ahead and do the same thing when you select that. Okay. And then the same thing for four. Okay, so now when I published this, you can see that all of those background images no longer show up. When I scroll through the page, I'm going to close and preview. You can see now it's just a clean website. Just has the header. Ah, a few links for my home about blocking contact and then a little bit of text that can put in here. And then the footer information, which is, you know, all the things about my site. Little search bar. This is some default text that's down there. Okay, so what we're gonna do is we're going to go back into customize, all right? And in your customization panel, we're going to slide to the bottom where the footer is, okay? And we're going to just get rid of some of this information. See the search bar? You can leave that. Their ah, find us. Find us. We're gonna get rid of this because you ah, don't want Really? If your personal reading. Unless you have you know a reason to put your address. You might want to just take that out. And so we're going to actually click on this, find us Ah, Utkan, expand with the triangle and just remove this widget. When I click remove And when it refreshes, you'll see it. This has disappeared, and we're gonna do the same thing with the about this site. Okay? Really? Just make this minimal and clean. We don't want to overdo it with features. You know, it's one of the things we want to make sure was minimal as possible. We can always build out onto the site later. But if you leave too much, then uh, then then it just kind of makes it difficult to decide when your website is actually ready to to publish and share with people. So let's go ahead and move this search one as well. Okay, let's do that. Will make it really clean. Okay. So what do you What do you have here now is a really a crisp, clear, minimal canvas here to work with. So now we're going to go to our site title. All right? Now, site title. If you haven't named it already, you can name it. I'll just write. Ah, this is Danny's Blawg, and my awesome block will leave that and you can if you don't want to display your site title and tagline. You can click that if you have an image that you'd rather have showing some sort of text on your image. But I will always just like to leave that there. Um, when you're just getting started, just makes it easier. And, um, you don't have to worry about with editing your images too much. Okay, So, site icon, you can leave this blank if you have an image you want to put you can. But I would leave this blank. This is just ah, little small icon that shows up in your browser tab. And ah, it's not necessarily important when getting your your website set up. OK, so hit publish. Okay, Now, we're gonna go back over to our view here, and we're gonna go into the home page section. We're going to take the text that you have from your about page, and we're going to just take a few sentences from that and put it on our home page so that you could People can click on to your about page to get more information about you see in the next video 11. 11. About Page: All right, everybody. Now we are not in WordPress, okay? And there's a reason for this. And so I want you to Ah, take out. You could do this however you like, But I have a recommend if you're on a computer to use a word processing software like Microsoft Word, Uh, or Google docks. I love using Google docks because I could save it in the cloud. And it's just easier to, ah, toe access into leverage. So why are we doing What are we doing with our were processing software? What we're going to be doing is working on our about page. Okay, So one of the most important things is to understand I'm just going to type in. This is my about page in Google docks. Um, you can sign up for a free Google docks account if you don't have one or just use whatever you have. I highly recommend just using what you have right now. We want to get your website up as fast as possible. You don't want to get bogged down with trying to learn new technology, so use what you have. They all kind of work the same. But when it comes to this. What we're trying to do is focus on our content. Okay, The key thing to get in your website up fast is this this concept of focus. So what are we going to be telling the story about ourselves to our potential audience. And this is important. We need to get this on our page. And that way we have the content to just bring over the war press, and we don't need to get sidetracked with all the other bells and whistles over there. So, um, blank canvas. We're gonna write out a few different things. And the first thing is you want to do is want it kind of just break the ice and tell them who you are. So you know, uh, tell who you are, okay. And in this section Ah, that's exactly what you're going to dio. And I'm just kind of putting this in here so that you can see you know, I'm telling them who I am. Hi. I'm Danny Lee. You and welcome to my site. And I give him a little bit. About what? What? My passion is what I what I love to do. It's geared around my website. Make sure it lines up with what you are. Topics that you are going to be covering your website and how you're going to be positioning and branding yourself. You want to give this story to your potential audience that builds that profile, that of who you are of what? Their images. What do you want them to see when they think of you? A zur introducing yourself for the first time. So think of it as you You're having a conversation at a cocktail party, your inner introducing yourself for the first time to someone, Um, what would you want them to know about you and you don't want to go on and on and on and on and on, because then you'll lose their interest, right? So you just want to give him a few quick tips. So I love helping people learn how to use technology to build personal brands, online courses on websites, right? So for me that that is, um, that that's that's in my bio. And then you know what? I'm not leading software delivery and support teams, and then I kind of give about three like fun. Facts have nothing to do with the topic of technology or or branding, but it's just so that I can relate to them on some level, Um, things that I like to share with, you know, about my personal background. So Christian Family, man of Chinese franchise descent Ah, former musician trying to find his voice again. So just a link to a soundcloud Ah, song that I that I played It was a cover song they played for when my mother passed away. So, um, just, you know, a couple of those things and then I play tennis. So, you know, sharing a little bit tidbit about that as well, Right? So that kind of breaks the ice, gives them a little sense of who I am. And you know what? For people who don't have any interest in any of that and they want to go away from my website, that's totally cool, because I'm not trying to resonate with everyone. I'm being genuine to who I am and sharing the few the few little fun facts about my personal life. So I couldn't build a connection with with a potential audience. Okay, so then, throughout my career, I've just kind of listed here. You know, a link to my my my professional linked in profile to give me a little more about my professional career. Um, and then that's a bit enough about me. Okay, so you want to just share a few personal facts about yourself and, ah, the number one thing at the top is you know what you can do for them in an indirect way, Because you're I'm telling people I love helping people how to use technology to build their brand and online course website so instantly they know what I dio. And then I can go into more about some of my professional qualifications and personal background and then in this second section here. So how can I help you? This is the what's in it for them, and this is one of the most important parts here. Now you want to make sure you get right to the point, so I'm telling people, you know. Okay, well, that's the $1,000,000 question. Um, and I give bullet points on what they could expect. The type of content that they couldn't expect to learn from me, which is you know how to how to get started fast creating a website for building a brand or publishing your first online course. Um, also the content marketing social media aspect. Um, if you're struggling with web design, you know, I'm not expert designer, but I know how to get by and doing it myself. Also, you know any of this online business stuff in general, you know, and just I'm a busy parent with a day job. Okay? That's one thing that you know, I can easily connect with a lot of people out there. That's my my target audience or people who are like me. Um, because you want to follow, you know, your audience is gonna want to follow someone that they can relate to in some way, shape or form. It doesn't mean you have to, you know, be at, uh, expert. That's like, you know, world class expert. It just means you need to be a few steps ahead of those trying to do the same thing as you . So you know, if your t trying to teach somebody or document your process of how you're building an online business, that's great. You need a document taking action, the steps that you're actually taking action. And as the sea you get these small winds, they're going to build that trust and credibility. You're gonna build that trust and credibility whether you like it or not. It's gonna happen as long as you're sharing your process. Okay. Building something of your own is a great feeling. Problem is, where did time I'll show you How? OK, so I ended on a positive note there. Okay, So this is all you need for your about page for your version. One of your website is Tell him who you are, Um, and tell him how you can help them. Okay, Share a few fun facts about yourself, make it personal, and try not to make it more than more than one page. Okay, You want more than one of your WordPress WordPress more Press your Microsoft Word or you're your Google Docks page. And I would say that's estimated anywhere between, um, 3 to 6 paragraphs if you're going to write it in a paragraph format. OK, eso go ahead and do that. And ah, in the next video, we're going to take all of this and we're going to put it into our about page in wordpress . See, then 12. 12. About Me & Saving in WordPress: all right. In this video, we're going to get our about page set up, and, ah, we're going to dive in here in the left hand column, You can see. Ah, there's a pages section. So we're just gonna click on the page pages section and it'll take us and show us all the pages that are already on our website so far. Now, by default, you may have already have some of these set up if you don't have Ah, an about page set up. You can go ahead and just click, add new and then type in about. Okay. And then go ahead and hit. Save draft. Okay, But since we already have our page just going to go back here, we're gonna leave the page here, and we've got a new about page here. We're going to click edit and already has Ah, some, you know, placeholder text in here, um, based off of the default installation. But we're gonna take that text. We're gonna replace it with the text that you have in your ah, your Google doc or your your Microsoft word, Doc. Wherever you uh, wrote your about page text. So I've already copied it in my clipboard. I'm just going to paste it in here, and so you can see There we go. We've got ah, all the text and just gonna take out some of the notes that I put in when covering this section in the other video. And after that, I'm just gonna click update. Okay, since this post has already published, if it's not publishing to hit, publish. But go ahead and hit update and then you're gonna wanna look at this. You can preview changes. We can just click on preview. Okay? And now we got this big image here. Ah, So what that is is a featured image and we want to take that out. That looks a little bit big. So what we're gonna do is take that out. But here's it's all set here. I've got the about page, and it has all my information here. So that's perfect. That's exactly what I want. So if I want to get rid of that image, you just have to go back to the page edit, and you can see here. It says featured image. Some themes have a ah set up where they can display the featured image as like your site header image. Um, I just want to take this one out, so I'm just going to remove it. And when I remove it and previewed the changes, you're gonna see that it no longer shows up there. So it's nice. It's clean, it's got It's just got my title and tagline Navigation a little about section here so you can feel free to add your ad in image directly in here. But right now it's just we're talking about focusing on the copy here, so get your copy in there. I want to switch back over and, ah, scroll down. Now there's one thing that you need to understand when it comes to the layout of your pages and your posts, and that is the layout that your theme gives you. And that could be a a single column eso similar to my website and filling Danny jail you dot com. I've got I don't have a sidebar here. Everything is just one full with with template for this particular page. Now, some themes have only that, and then some themes offer ume or where they give you some sidebars that you can configure and put widgets and all that fancy stuff. This is the default template. There's no other, uh, layout when it comes to um, but it comes to sidebar, widgets and things like that, and that's totally fine. We don't really care about that. All we care about is getting our copy up. I'm gonna make sure that we hit update and View page. You can see you've got your about, and you've got all the text that you have here that you need for your about page. So go ahead and get your copy into your about page and publish it and I'll see you in the next video. 13. 13. Contact Page & Social: all right. And in this video, we're going to set up our contact page. So what? We already have our about page set up by now. We should already have that. If you If you don't have that set up, please go back and watch the, uh, earlier videos and make sure you have that set up and they're gonna move to our contact page. So if you're using the 2017 we're press theme. You can see here there's already a navigation menu primary. This is called a primary navigation menu, and it's already here. Um, and what I won't do is before we, uh, start editing our contact page. I want to show you where that is set up because for some, for some of you, if that this doesn't show up, it's going to be beneficial for you to know where that is. And so if you go to customize Okay, you can see there's a menu section here when you click on menus. Ah, this will allow you to see the menu is that you have. So you've got some locations that your theme will allow, and that's a top menu, okay. And social links menu which is are the bottom. So, um, we're gonna click on this again. I always recommend going in the visual editor. If you have these little pencil at it. Icons, this will take you directly where you need to go. So we're already there. Says top menu. Okay, so we can edit the menu and see how it has all of these links already. Home just goes to the home page. It's already set up by default. Um, about block context. You can add pages here. You can just click, add, and then you can type. If you have the page there, you can You can add it. Um, or you can delete pages from here as well. So you can add post types categories, lots of different things, but okay, so let's go back to the page. Close out of that. Now we're gonna click on the contact link. It's gonna take us to our contact page again. We've got this image here, and we're gonna remove that someone to go ahead and click edit page were to remove this featured image. Just click. Remove. Okay. And in here we have, you know, just some placeholder text like we did before and you just type in something saying, you know, you can contact me by clicking on below social media links. Okay, so you can contact me by clicking on the below social media wings. But just put some text in there to direct people. And this is this is what's called a call to action, right? So you're telling them to click onto below. Social media links called Action is very important because you want people to take action on your posts and pages, whether it's too click on a link or to sign up for something. Um, that is the overall goal when you're trying to, you know, build in email list. You know, in trying to build an audience is or to sell products and services, you want to be telling them what to do on that page. Okay, so here, we're going to say, um, you click on the blows social media links and ah, you don't need to get crazy with this Lot of people like what I need to put custom icons and all these other other things. But, you know, just put in your u R l. So you know, like you know where your your website is. In my case, I want people to go to my social media particular my Facebook business page. So what I'll do is I'll copy the link and go ahead and put that too. Go to my D i Y. Web guy page. And so what I'm gonna do is just switch on over to my contact page and just put in, you know, put in the link. You can say, you know, facebook dot com and just leave that. So I'm just gonna put that in there, and then if you want a hyperlink out, you're going to have to link s. So I recommend, you know, just put in something. Ah, you know, put in some some text that's going to make more sense than just the URL You could just put , um, we're gonna select this text, and we're going to insert the hyperlink. There's the hyperlink. But you didn't do link options here, and you can select the link text, so I would just put on Facebook. And when you do that, you could see there's a link there. Great. And then I could do the same thing for Ah, you know, linked in do the same thing for Lincoln. Just take that apply, and we're good there. Hit, Enter, and I'm going to YouTube as well. So if I do insert at Link put in that at it. Link gonna go and hit. Enter. And there we go. We got three different links here. So five ahead and update this. It's going to save that. And it's very simple. I'm not asking for I'm not putting a lot of copying here. It's just three different areas. I'd like Ah, people to click on if they want to contact me or follow me. This is where I'm gonna put now. If you have an email service provider, you want to start collecting email addresses, you can put a form a contact form in here, But again, don't get overwhelmed with this. Just put what you already have. You know, if you already have social media, put that in there for now. And later on, you can always add a contact form or something like that on your website. Okay, so I'm gonna click after we clicked. Update you can preview changes. You could see. Um, you can contact blows. Social media links on Facebook. Okay, that will take them directly to ah, page there or linked in. Okay. All right, there we go. Takes me to take them to my LinkedIn page or my YouTube channel. Perfect. Okay, so that's it. That's that's it. So now we've got our about page set up, which is great. We've got our contact, and and now we've got to go back to our home page because I want to make sure that you we've got a few key links here set up. Um, really, just It's really just want. I mean, we've got our primary navigation already set up the top here, but one edit the home page here, and we're gonna put in some text in there, see in the next video. 14. 14. Home Page & Editing With About Text: All right, everybody. Danny here. And in this video, we are going to come back here to our home page and there's a couple different elements here we want to edit to get our home page up and running for our first, our first version of our website. So what you're gonna do is you're going to edit, we're gonna edit a few things were going at it, the background image. And if you don't have an image, it's totally fine. Can play around some images. But I would have a recommend. Um, let that be the last thing that you're really worried about if you don't have an optimal image, so just can just leave the default image here. But I'm gonna show you how to do the image and then how to edit this home section with some of the text that we want to put into to link to our about page when you give a little teaser text and then link to the full about page click edit. Okay. Once we get out of the customizing window, we're gonna click edit this, gonna let us to edit our home page in the WordPress admin battle. So Welcome to your site. This is your home page. Ah, this all the placeholder text that we saw on the home page of our site. We're gonna delete that, and you can go back to your about page and just take some of the context here. So you could say, you know, I'm Danny. Welcome to my site. And just take that out, right? Take okay. We can just highlight some of the text. Not not all of it. But we're just gonna highlight, you know, some of the text that we have here that we want to include, and then it put, like, you know, it read more or like a linked to the about page that they can click and get the full description of of who you are. So we're gonna go back to the homepage at it. We're going to put in the text there, and we're gonna put a a link to about me and just, you know, typing about me. Insert link and you can start typing. It will bring you up the page that you want a link to. So we're gonna do that. We're gonna apply it, hit, enter. And now we're going to update this. And when we go back to our home page, you're going to see we're view page and we're going back to home. This is our home, and you can see here it ISS we've got I'm Danley unwelcome Sight. And it has a link to He says I'm also and then it's kind of leading them on right to you. Want them to click this one click about me, And then here is the full description of the about me page. OK, we don't have any, and we don't have a personal images here yet. That's okay. We're focusing on the copy. I want to get a copy out there. Okay. Um, so now you've got your home page, all right with it with the text here. What we're gonna do now is we're gonna go ahead and add some images, so we're gonna Ah, if you haven't already, go ahead and get your home page at it with all of the text that you want to include. Just a few snippets. Don't take the full context of your about page. Just a few paragraphs and then link and about me link to your about page, and I'll see you in the next video. 15. 15. Adding Images: All right, everybody. So by now, we should have our site almost set up. We've got our homepage. We've got our about. We've got our contact page. If you have this blogger archive link, you just kind of ignore that. For now. It's got some default stuff in there, and we're gonna touch on that, um, shortly. But what I want to cover here are getting some images in for those pages that you created. Okay, so if I click edit here on this home page, I can add sort of a little image here by putting in an ad media. Okay, I could just take that and, um, click on an image and started in okay and preview this no show. Um, you know, it looks a little bit off, you know? So I can do is play with it and get it to where I want. Exactly. So I can just click enter quick update, okay. And then preview it. All right, So, a little bit more. A little bit better. Okay, so I've got that. I've got my image juices home says you know who I am a little bit about me, and then they can click more on this about me link to find out more about me. Now, maybe you want to put an image in here too. You can do it the same exact way. Okay, Now, what about images for your Ah, your header. Your block header. Okay, so we're gonna go back to our customized ah, section we're gonna customized. And you want toe edit this background image. His background image is part of your header media. If you're using 2017 theme the WordPress 2017 theme, you can see it's got a default image here if you want to swap it out with something else. I have uploaded a couple images already, but you can click add new image. And ah, if you have something in your library, you probably don't. When you're first getting started, you most definitely don't. So you want to upload files and you can just upload files your image files to your WordPress site and then select them. Okay, so I have one here already. Somebody click on that and apply it and then hit. Publish. Okay. And, ah, we're gonna close that and you can see So I've got says, Ah, Danny's blogged. My awesome Blawg. And then I can scroll down here and you see, I've got pretty much everything ready to go. So that's all you need to know when it comes to adding images, uh, make sure that you play around with the size of the images. Uh, depending upon you know, you're the size of your pictures. They may show up. They may or may not show up the way you want them to suit. So tried a couple different photos of yourself to get them in there, and I'll see you in the next video. 16. 16. Footer Links Social: Now, this is just one thing here we need to do before ah, before launching our website. And that is we need to go down and add our ah footer links for our social media accounts. Very important whenever you launch your Web site or you add a feature to websites important to make sure that you've actually configure. This is why we cleaned up the home page in the first homepage video. And and that's his total. We cleared out a lot of the widgets because there's a lot of just things that we didn't need for our website. Okay, so let's go ahead and edit this. We're gonna go to customize, and you're going to include only the things that you ah you know, only the social media links that you want to include. If you're not on Twitter, don't don't keep this year. Wanna hide it? Okay, so we're gonna edit these social media icons at the bottom here, if you know where they are in the left hand pate pain here, go ahead and and dig through that. But I highly recommend again using the edit. Click on the pencil. It will take you right where you need to go. Um, I honestly wouldn't have found it here unless I did that. Um, I like going back just to see where things are at. And so this was actually bet embedded in menus. Sometimes it's in the photo section, but this isn't menus. And this one we've got, ah, social links menu. This theme calls it social links menu. So that's where we are us. We got custom links for yelp. We're not on yelp. If you if you are, you leave it, but otherwise remove it. Um, I'm gonna remove the instagram. We're gonna go ahead and delete that. And Ah, so I've got Facebook here. I want to put in the Facebook. Um, the navigation labels already there. I'm just gonna go ahead and click on this and put in my business page. You know, if you don't have this is another thing. If you don't have a Facebook business page, that's totally cool. Most people don't when they're getting started out. Just put a link to your personal profile, your personal facebook user profile. Okay, if you want people to contact you that way. Okay, So we're gonna go ahead and click. Um minimize that. And Ah, that's just an example. So we're not gonna go run through all of those, But I'll show you what it looks like he had published. You can see we've got here. If I click on that link, it's going to take them right to Facebook and we're all set. OK, That way they don't just click a dead link and go nowhere. 17. 17. Launch: All right. So in this module, we're gonna talk about launching. So, congratulations. You already have your website up and running. If you If you haven't, go ahead and go back to the previous models and make sure that you take action and implement the steps so that you could get your first version of your website up and online's You can get some feedback and start improving it. Okay. Number number. One way to improve your website is to get actual feedback from your audience. Okay, so we're gonna talk about how to get that audience in module three and launching. So how do we How do we launch this thing? Right? If you're not a marketing professional, doesn't matter. You don't have to be. Um everybody should have some sort of, um, network around them. And if you don't, well, then it's easy. You can go ahead and and start joining, engaging in social media groups and start building a network. But here's the thing. If you have friends and family, those are the first and foremost ways that you can start getting that immediate initial feedback. Okay. Even if you have some some family or friends that are just going to be nice to you. At least get you get yourself usedto asking for feedback because this is very important if you if you are new to personal branding or on the business, you need to engage with your audience. If you don't engage with your audience in your potential customers, then you lose out on, you know, on serving them on building your business and building your brand. Okay, so make sure that you ah, tell people about it in your immediate circle social circles, okay? And then announce it on on social media. So, you know, announce it on Facebook or LinkedIn, Twitter, instagram it doesn't matter. Whatever accounts her on announced to people saying, Hey, my website is alive. Go check it out, drop a link in your post and start trying to get feedback that way as well. Um, it also helps. Like I said again, is joining groups. If you join groups Facebook groups and start engaging in social media on the related topic that you are, your website is all about your brand is all about. Then you're going to get more. Um, you're gonna start building more of an audience that way as well 18. 18. Congrats!: all right, I said it. It's time to celebrate. So congratulations. I should There should be some audio fireworks there. But really, I just want to say congratulations. You have no idea what bit big of accomplishment you have just just made with creating your first version of your WordPress website. This is something that a lot of people don't ever get to. And ah, it doesn't have to be something very complex to realize the the actual achievement. Now you've got a website up. It may not look perfect. In fact, it doesn't look perfect. My set, My website doesn't look perfect. And people that I look up to a mentors that have their sights and brands on for years. Okay, they don't There is is not perfect either. Like they're always looking to improve. So seriously, congratulate yourself and understand that, you know, in order to really take this personal brand to the next level, you've got to start building the foundation and then scaling up as time goes on. So it's a long term game. But next steps I would recommend our to actually start creating content. So block post videos, photos, whatever, whatever it comes, more natural to you. If you are a writer, start, start doing block posts. If you're not really great at writing, I I suck at writing. So, um, videos. There are thing that I really like to do. So do videos, and then you can transcribe them and and then edit them. That way, if you'd like to get text up online taking photos, ensuring those on instagram, that's another great way to start helping share your content. And, ah, just keep active on social media and you don't build, You know, the next thing. Like I mentioned in the previous videos for building an email list. If you haven't on this, start doing it. This is something that almost all, um, p personal brands that I follow mentioned at one point or another to their audience is that they wish they built their mentalists sooner. Okay, this is really gonna give you control of the message that you have and let them know whenever you have an event going on or you're offering something, um, just gives you that ability to just do that any at any moment in time. You know that you're going to get a better reach when it comes to sending emails, Okay, s CEO and paid advertising these or some other topics to look into a swell. Um, but don't get don't get caught up in trying to learn it all at once. I think that's the biggest lesson that I've learned over the years is choose one. And then you master that and you really, you know, develop a proficiency with that platform or or that medium And and then after that, you move onto the next thing. Okay, So, um, as a bonus, I just wanted Teoh Just point you to some of the videos that talk more about some of the premium themes that you could potentially invest in for WordPress and which ones I use and highly recommended. I'm not gonna do that right now just cause I'm on this screen, But you type of namely website and it resolves to the location that your website is installed. So in this case, I've got a name cheap domain name here, and it's lean tech creative as to when we're going to use for this Ah, video. And it's gonna were gonna point it to my WordPress installation for this website on my psych around account. Okay, so on my site ground account for this. And in here, I'm going to select the name servers that that need need to be entered here, So they're already there.
