Project Description

Capture a portrait of a non-human little friend.

ASSIGNMENT

Your project is to photograph an emotive animal portrait.

A few quick tips from the class:

  • Pick a location you've been to many times before. This way, the animals are used to your presence, and you know a bit more about their behaviors.
  • Make a specific noise ("whisper") every time you go to the location, so the animals know it's you.
  • Get low to the ground, and even experiment with "hides" so you don't scare them away.
  • Focus on the eyes. By making the eyes sharp, you'll get a lot more feeling from the photo.
  • Use the Single Autofocus (AF) setting on your camera, so you can capture the shot even if the animal is moving really fast.

DELIVERABLE

Post your animal portrait in the Project Gallery. To get started:

  1. Share your favorite animal. What furry friend would you like to photograph the most?
  2. Shoot location. Where are you thinking to take this photo? Remember, you don't have to go to any exotic location — use your surroundings, a local park, or even your backyard.
  3. Animal portrait. Upload your final photograph, and any other fun shots you took along the way.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you capture!
