1. Intro: Hello, guys. And welcome to the weather. One a one course. This is the intro video. And yeah, I would like to welcome you to the class. And I'm glad you're here and interested in learning about the topic. Now, what the class will teach you is info about thunderstorms, severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, tropical cyclones and more. Now the class project is super simple, so make sure to do it. After watching the videos from the course, take a photo of a weather event around you and you get to decide what to take a picture of whether it be of lightning, rain, hail at cetera. But of course, make sure not to go outside. If there is a tornado, we're severe thunderstorm because that wouldn't be smart. And thats the conclusion of the short intro video. I hope this class is helpful to you. And if you guys have any questions, the community section is always a place to go 2. Thunderstorms: Hello, everyone, and welcome to the lesson on thunderstorms. Now the order of what I explain will be as follows. What is a thunderstorm? Ingredients to a thunderstorm, stages of a thunderstorm, types of a thunderstorm, and we will close it out with some interesting fax. So first off, what is a thunderstorm? Ah, thunderstorm is a storm with lightening and as said in the title Thunder, Rain doesn't have to be there, but it is common now. Many people get that mixed up because you think well, if there's gonna be lightning and thunder, there has to be rain, right? But the answer is no. Here's a little picture down there, so there are three ingredients that stuff that a thunderstorm needs to be a thunderstorm. Number one is moisture, which comes from large bodies of water such as the Atlantic Ocean or Gulf of Mexico, and number two is instability. It is a rat continues to rise when pushed upward, and number three is a lifting force, typically from a cold front. Now for the life cycle of a thunderstorm, there are three stages to it, just as there are three ingredients for a thunderstorm now, the first stage is a towering cumulus stage, and this is the stage where the cloud grows vertically and it just grows more and more in depth. You've you've all seen one before, and the second stage is the mature cumulus stage. This is the strongest slash most dangerous stage, where hail, tornadoes and heavy rain is produced. The bottom image. On the left, you can see rain off in the distance to the mountains and on the right. You can see a super cell and a tornado, and lastly, the third stage of a thunderstorm is the dissipating stage. A storm reaches a stage when the amount of moisture isn't enough for it. Toe continue on, and light brain can occur during this part of the cycle as well. Now for types of thunderstorms, there are four types which follow ordinary cells, cluster of cells, squall lines and supercells. Now ordinary ordinary cells aren't very large and ago, sir, it cycle without producing extra cells. A cluster of cells can be large or small and can produce some extreme damage. Typically, it starts with an ordinary cell that produces more and more cells over time, and this picture was actually taken recently, and score lines typically damage things the most out of any other thunderstorm because fronts usually power it through far distances with great amounts of strength. And Texas is a part of Tornado Alley and you can see the long squall line heading through it. And the last type of thunderstorms are a super cell. This type of thunderstorm produces the most powerful tornadoes and usually has clouds low to the ground, as you can see in the picture below. Now it produces the most tornadoes because for a super cell to be a super cell, it already has some rotation in it, which is what a tornado needs. Now, some interesting facts are only about 10% of thunderstorms become severe, and Kampala, the capital of Uganda, has 240 average days per year where thunderstorms are present. So to recap this lesson, there are three ingredients needed for a thunderstorm, which follow as moisture, instability and some sort of lifting mechanism. And there are three stages of a thunderstorm which follow the towering cumulus stage, the mature cumulus stage and the dissipating stage. And there are four types of thunderstorms which follow as ordinary cell cluster of cell squall lines and supercells. So thank you, guys, for watching this video. I hope you learned a lot. And next up, we have severe thunderstorms. 3. Severe Thunderstorms: For this video, I will be talking about what makes this thunderstorm severe the difference between a watch and warning, safety tips and interesting facts. Now what makes a thunderstorm severe for there to be a severe thunderstorm, the thunderstorm has to have one of the following wind gusts of 58 miles or higher, 3/4 of an inch or higher of hail in diameter, and a tornado produced now, usually first severe thunderstorms. It's wind gusts or hail. If there's a tornado, it will more likely be tornado warning instead of severe thunderstorm. Warning now difference between a watch and warning. Many people get this confused, which is why I need to talk about this. So a severe thunderstorm watch is issued when conditions in an area are favorable. That's a key word there for a severe thunderstorm. Warning means at least one characteristic from the previous list is present, so watch means favourable warning means it's happening now. Safety tips includes staying on the bottom floor of the home slash building, staying away from the windows and if there's a tornado, obviously get in a shelter. Now some interesting facts are coastal deserts and chilli. Never have thunderstorms. The heaviest hailstone ever recorded was £2.25. Every year, around 16 million thunderstorms occur around the world. Next up we have tornadoes. 4. Tornadoes: the things we will cover in this video are what is a tornado, the Fujita Scale, How tornadoes are created, how to detect possible tornadoes on the radar, and we'll finish it off with some interesting facts. So what is a tornado? A tornado is a violent column of air that rotates with high wind speeds, and they're all in different categories, and it's calculated using the Fujita scale. Now this. The scale is based on officials reviewing the area that was struck by a tornado, and it's based off of wind speed, and they calculate that from seeing how much damage was done. Now the chart below says F zero is 42 72 mile per hour winds F one 73 to 112 mile per hour mile per hour winds. F two is 1 13 to 1 57 MPH at 31 1 58 to 206 MPH at 42072 to 60 MPH and F 5 to 61 23 18 MPH . No F zeros F ones and F twos are the most common. Luckily, since a do less damage. So how tornadoes are created for a tornado? Despond there must be a thunderstorm, and typically they will spawn through supercells. Because, as I said before, that type of thunderstorm already has some rotation in it. Which tornadoes need now how to detect possible tornadoes on a radar. There is usually ah, hoc shape on the radar that shows the area of rotation. However, Ah, hook doesn't always mean a tornado is there. And the tornado doesn't always have to be in the form of a hook on the radar. Some in this image below you can see the Joplin tornado on ah, high definition radar if try to find the hook. And so, yeah, it's as you can see right here the darkest area comes in Ah, hook form. So that is how to detect a possible tornado doesn't necessarily mean there is one. And some interesting facts are on average, 1300 tornadoes strike the U. S. Each year with 3/4 of those tornadoes with 3/4 of tornadoes that occur in the world being in the U. S. And tornadoes on a radar don't always show up in hook shape, as I said before. So next up we have tropical cyclones 5. Tropical Cyclones: In this video, we will be covering tropical cyclones. So the contents of the video are what is a tropical cyclone types of tropical cyclones, how hurricanes are classified and we'll finish it off with some interesting facts. So, first off, what is a tropical cyclone? Now? A tropical cyclone is a warm, low pressure system that isn't created by fronts. Most people think it is since it's like in the tropics, so they think the heat powers it and I mean it does. But it's not really in front form, and they also have super organized circulation now types of tropical cyclones. Now all tropical cyclones are pretty much the same, but are called different names based on where they're located Now. The tropical cyclone is in the western Pacific. It's a typhoon. So the so the area where Japan, in all those countries over there are. And if a tropical cyclone is in the Indian Ocean, it's called a cyclone. So obviously including India there no. If a tropical cyclone is in the eastern Pacific slash Atlantic Ocean, it's a hurricane, so that can include Hawaii, the United States and even Mexico. Now, how hurricanes are classified hurricanes are classified by recording the wind speed justice tornadoes. But it also includes the storm surge, which basically means the amount of flooding and the chart below. You can see a Category one hurricane has wind speeds of 74 to 95 MPH with storm surges of 45 feet, and it causes minimal damage. Now you can see category 23 and four, and with Category five, it's 155 MPH or more inland speed and has 18 feet of storm surge. And the damage is, as you may know, catastrophic. Now. Storm surge is very dangerous because most people are 4 to 6 feet. So just with category one and two, you already get that amount, so it becomes very dangerous as it goes later on. Now, some interesting facts say aren't really good that they exist, but we'll still go over them because why not now? A tropical cyclone conduct 2.4 trillion gallons of rain in a day That just shows you how big it is or yeah, and tornadoes conform on the outer part of a hurricane. And that makes the storm even more dangerous. And hurricanes can cost billions of dollars in repair. And so can really any tropical cyclone. Class Project: before I get into the details of the class project, I'd like to thank you for joining my class and watching the videos. Now I hope you guys learned a lot of info and enjoyed not sitting through a long lecture or reading pages on pages of info toe. Learn about these topics now on to the class project. The assignment, as I said before, is the easiest project on skill, sir, so make sure to do it. Your task is to take a picture of a weather event that happens where you live. It can be anything. But if there is a severe storm or thunderstorm near you, refrain from going outside because you don't want to get hurt. And also make sure if you take a picture that no people or house addresses are in there because we wouldn't want any of your personal details to be out there.
