In this class, you will take a look at how value affects how we perceive the world and how you can harness value theory to make creating content a little easier. For the final project you will create a Content Value Board. This board is a value study cheat sheet for creating your images with the most impact.


This class  will cover - composition, perspective, space, and value. Instead of applying these to a painting you will apply them to creating imagery. With all the noise that surrounds most people on a daily basis you only have a few seconds to convey your message. What you learn during this course is applicable to product lifestyle pictures, blog posts, or shareable social media.

1. Using Value To Create Content Introduction: Hi, I'm Michelle and welcome to using value to create content. The purpose of this class is to learn how to use water colors as a tool for creating quality content. After you've created your wonderful product, you have to promote it tweeted, pin it and all the other. It's out there. There's not enough time in the day to stay on top of it all. There are basically three ways to deliver content to your arms. You can buy it. You can pass along existing content or you can make your own. What you can expect from this class is an artistic, foundational understanding of composition in value. We will then take this knowledge to stream your on your content creation process together. Using watercolors, we will visually plan out your content before photography takes place, So get your paintbrush ready. There's someone waiting to see what you have to show 2. Supplies: you do not need any previous pregnant knowledge to take this class, but there are a few supplies that you will. First, you'll need some watercolor paper. It comes in several different weights, but for the purpose of this class, any student great paper will work fine. Then the paper will be sold. Is either a bound take book or sparrow notebook or you can get a single sheets. You also need some sketch paper and printer paper. Work fun. Next, you'll need to water color paint. Composition is less of something you were and more something you unknowingly understand. Unlike perspective, composition is so when the composition is off, the message changes. For this class, we're going to focus on compositional planning of content. Now we're going to delve into some compositional states. We'll go over lightly a few principles of composition, those being lines shape, balance rules, 1/3 and rhythm. 6. Lines: lines do not exist in nature, but rather they're experienced. Our mind connects the dots between objects to create a directed flow. This flow could be vertical diagonal, horizontal, curving, used lines for content impact. Think of those blue lights guiding the airplane to the runway. We want the lines and our image to land on the focal point of the story, Graham. So get a sheet of watercolor paper and get familiar with the brush and make some lines. Noting the position of the line relative to the paper, you will find that you naturally were gravitate towards lines that speak. Find which directed line is comfortable. This will help you in your final project. 7. Shape: shapes do occur in nature. For the purpose of this class, we will talk about shape as it relates more to both inside content as well as outside content. Inside content refers to the use of shapes to create an impact statement. It goes back to one of your earlier lessons in math and science escape. If you put too much on one side, the scale rises too much on the other side, it goes the other way. Balance in creating content means that your story ground must be balanced with the rest of the content in your image. Balance content, though, is not created your story. Ground should be the most important piece. It is the reason why you are, after all, creating the content. It needs to be the odd man out. The soft rule is that odd numbers attract more attention. Rhythm: From the very beginning, we have learned to use rhythm and music to understand our surrounds. The most earliest form of this is the ABC, so the same mental trick using rhythm is also using composition. Repeating your story ground is one way to get your point across. There's a movie, my fair lady from the sixties. I love this movie. There's a line in that movie where character says, I'm willing to tell you I'm wanting to tell you I'm waiting to tell you it is a very rhythmic speech because it makes you stand up and listen. You start thinking, OK, this is very important. He's told me this time and time again, he's willing. He's waiting, he's wanting. So what is it you want to convey? That same message? Let's look at this from a real world example. Let's say you're be designer and you're working on a You pick one of your beads and show them in a repeating group. Having them all in one image grabs attention by playing a rhythm is a repetitive rhythmic flow. That direction story. Graham. You want your story ground to be repetitive, but you also want to apply some symmetry and for good measure, throw in a little chaos. Chaos is a disruption, and when you throw in that disruption, it's like nails on a chalkboard. You will grab attention. Okay, so we're going to work on a ridden exercise. I want you to find a pattern that you love that also fits your product. Focus and create a symmetrical rhythmic pattern with your water comes. 10. We will take our value scale of 1 to 5 and pain out thumbnail sketches, then post your finished product and sketches to the project file. So let's begin. Why would you go to the store and buy a magazine by the magazine means that you are committing yourself to reading it or at the very least slipping through to look at the pictures. That commitment automatically guarantees you will spend more than eight seconds on the article or the picture. Now ask yourself, Why did you skip over all the other magazines on the shop to buy just that one? When you flip through the other magazines, nothing. Grab your attention. Content falls into three categories. The peruse, the use and the for gotten in just a hit. We want to always fall into the 1st 2 buckets. The Peru's category is attention grabbing content. Hook the viewer to invest their time further. The use category allows the viewer to take the time with the content it grows on.
