1. About The Class: Hi guys, welcome to my skill share class. This is watercolour Florio's fun and simple. And I'm so excited to go into these dirty, really easy, quick and fun. Florio's using blending, playing around with colors, playing around with layering. This is a topic that I've been so excited to teach and I've been actually reading for months to launch it. I hope you enjoy it. My name is model. I'm a watercolor artist. I've been painting for so many years. And teaching is one of my biggest passions. I really, really enjoy it. And it brings me so much of choice. And I love to, I love senior projects, I loved senior reviews and comments. It inspires me to teach more and more. Have a really good tea and hope you enjoy the class. Happy painting. And let's get started. 2. Materials: So the first thing that we're going to be discussing is the materials that we're gonna be using for this specific project. Starting off with the paper, I'm using qadi sheets. These are handmade caught and people, so a 100% cotton, the beautiful sheets you get them in drilling ice packs and its really good priced as well. And they are about to ten GSM. So that is the paper that we're going to be using it as rough. So it's not a very, it's not cold press paper. After that. Let's talk about brush. For this practice excites. I'm gonna be using the silver black velvet brush. This is a size four. And it's 3 thousand deaths is the code for the brush. It has a really nice pointed tip. It's a beautiful brush. It's worth the investment to be honest, I would definitely recommend it. I've seen a lot of artists use it and it's so versatile that tip Israeli pan and you will see that in the expenses. And the final project has used his brush. The next thing we're going to be doing, we're going to be needing is the masking tape. Scissors to cut the masking tape. Cups of water. You can have some spare tissue paper if you need to wipe down the excess water or when you're cleaning up your brush. Now let's talk about our pains. I'm going to be using three colors for this project specifically. And they're all formed the Prima watercolors set. You can see I've got the currents and the classic set from the currents, I am going to be using two colours. One is basically an indigo blue, and the other one is a pseudo Julian blue. So it's not so blue, it's some, it's a cobalt blue. And for the project, I'm actually going to be using a turquoise blue. Then from the classic set, I'm gonna be using the pink. It's basically an opera pink. It's a beautiful bright color. Now that we've got our materials, let's get started with some practice exercises. 3. Practice - Floral Elements: Hi everyone. So another we've spoken about materials less than move on to our practice exercises. So I am going to be doing floral practice exercise. First. I would suggest you do this multiple times. You get Zhou early really comfortable with drawing these drawing and painting these Florio's. So I'm going to be taking a blue color just because I really like color. And I'm using my silver black brush. Well, but aren't sure how to say that. Silver brush. Silver black velvet. Again. Let's just leave that and move forward. So I'm starting off with a very, very watered down layer. So you can see how I've taken little bit of paint and a lot of water to make it very watery. And now that I've done that, I'm gonna go in, starting off with ten lines and then building it up to a petal. Making sure it's Drew Ali watery. You can see a thin line kinda just dragging it, creating that shape. At the start of the petal. I like to leave a little bit of gap. So it just adds on. You can see that gap that I've kind of created. I'm just whooping my brush back and forth. And I'm not being too specific about the number of petals. Again, you can see how each petal is not perfect. They're not in the same proportion, they're all in different angles. Does about 123457 of them. And I haven't planned this out. But I have made sure that it's not just 34 or five battles because these can look very, very small. So I'm trying to go for a number that's bigger than phi battles. So it could be, it could be seven. Some of them are small, some of them are much more bigger. And I'm letting that be part of the effect. Now I'm going in with my dark paint. So this is directly from the paint. Half band, which is again why I love half band because it's. Get the paint like this. And I'm going into the tip or the start of the flora and chairs doing these small strokes. Since my paint is still wet, you can see some of them just kind of leading through looking. So, so, so pretty. And this is the best part about watercolors is the bleeding effect. It's the blending which looks so good. I'm also gonna do the same thing at the edge of the petals. Not everywhere, not threw out, but just in some areas to build that blue color so it doesn't look very, very light. And if you've seen my style, you would know that I really love vibrant colors showing through. And that's why I do this. How pretty Does this look? And this is our flora is so easy, it is so simple and it's so fun. So I want to show you one more just so you can again understand how I'm surely not being too fussy about better sheeps and letting it be laws. And that's the whole point of like lose Florida is that you're not being saw avail of the symmetricity, but at the same time you are letting it happen naturally. So whenever you're starting, just make sure you do leave a gap in the centers. You are trying to leave a small space in the center. And then you start your petals. And blue color is one of the best scholars to try this process with. Because of the vibrancy of blue color, I found that other colors aren't, has good. Blue is kind of perfect to test your, you know, that kind of tones, the lighter shades, the transparency. It's really good to try it out with blue and then you can move on to other colors. Starting again, you can see how I'm just going up and down. Some of them are thickest strokes, Some of them are thinner. And kind of slowly building them up into petals. And it's a very, very lightly or not too much water. So it's not like a bubble being formed at slightly off. And I'm trying to keep a little bit cap in the center. So you can see this one is more of a wild or with day compared to the previous one. It's, the petals are a lot of different directions. They're big and small. Lot of different variety. And I'm going to take in the darker color directly from the half band without rewriting the pinned or keeping it on the palate and is going to directly take that dark color and then do my center lines. And because it's the wet, because the paint is still wet, you can see the color bleeding through. In case a dries it wouldn't lead. So that's something to keep in mind if you take too much time in the process and you're going to miss out on that effect. So you can see this one is a lot more big odd compared to the previous one. The center is a lot more wide. Again, showing you guys buy a variety. And now doing the edges. Please note that only if your people, right. So doing the edges. So you can see that the blue colour, how vibrant and how pretty the colors have come out. So this is one idea of a flier and kind of a building on this where instead of the center having lines, you can also do dots. And I want to show you that example as well. So you can kind of pick and choose which one you wanna use. So I'm starting over just doing normal dots. But I wanted to show you a little bit of a trick is that as you go higher and higher, basically AVY from the circle or the center, you wanna make sure that the dots become less and also smaller. And hence, you know, this is not dots for the actual height. But I'm just going to say. So it's easier for you to understand. So you can see how this effect can have a, looks a little bit interesting and different at the same time. And it gives it more of a dynamic look. So now that we've done this, let's do our other practice exercise, which is going to be the leaves. So I'm starting with a width of very, very watered-down layer of green. Actually, I think this is going to be a greenish blue. That's a very, very light translucent there. And I'm doing these big leaves. And what I tried to do is make sure that the point of the leaf is pointed. I try not to leave it as a bulb or a circle or a curve. I like to have it pointed because I feel like it looks better. And you can see how light it is. Now I'm going to dry this and come back to this tried layer. To add on to this, I'm going to take more of the pigment and lesser water. So the color is very, very strong. And I'm gonna go on top of this existing leaf and create small leaves. This is really good because it adds a dimension to the artwork. It's not just one set of leaves. But when you do this, when you're layering, the watercolor aspect of your art surely comes through. And I love this effect because it looks more complicated. It looks more new, it looks fresh. So I'm just going in over the layer and just adding these smaller leaves and making sure the tip of the thieves are long and pointed to match. Though background leaves. I'm also trying to do these leaves in the middle, so they're not right on top of the existing step. I would suggest practicing this multiple times. You get really good at it. Play around with the shape of the leaves, play around with the placements and get really comfortable with this before you move on. In our next practice exercise, we're gonna do a really quick, fun bookmark before we move on to our final project. 4. Practice - Testing Masking Tape: So an additional exercise I wanted to add in, just because I have noticed a lot of people struggling with masking tape and they end up doing most of their project and then stuck with Julie. I would say it ruined artwork because the masking tape did not stick or it's stuck too much. And all of those issues still, to figure that out, just doing a very simple exercise is really good. Just taking a small people watercolor paper that you're planning to be using for your project. Just taking a small part of it. What we're gonna do is we're gonna first put out masking tape in the center. And there's a reason for that as well because I want to make sure that the edges are also really, really crisp. And till now that I've done that, I'm gonna go in with some paint. And I'm making this Hollywood Raleigh watching with a lot of liquid, just making adroitly water down because I want to make sure that the paint isn't slipping through the masking tape. It's a really good exercise to test that. And now that that is done, I'm going to try this artwork or this test. Ok. OK. So now that we have dried it, I'm gonna slowly remote my masking tape to just check if it is fine if it got stuck too much. Anything that I need to make adjustments with before I move on to my final artwork. And you can see the way I'm removing it, it's diagonally. I try not to remove it straight up just because I've noticed that that increases the tendency for the people to rip. So holding it down diagonally, surely hubs. And there you go, simply excites, you can see how the edges are crisp and clear. So this is a perfect masking tape and we can go forward and uses for our exercise. 5. Practice - Easy Bookmark: Now let's do a really quick fun practice bookmark. I just wanted to add this on just to make it rarely, rarely fund. So a very, very watered-down layer of green color. I'm gonna do a really nice long stem all the way through to the top of my paper. I know it's really light, you can't see it, and that's also the point of it. I wanted to make it lighter. You kind of see how it's not ours. The go end with some noise leaves. It's okay if it's not exactly seen because he couldn't any ways layer it with another layer on top. So don't worry too much. I try not do the leaves at the same start point on the right and left side. I tried to read them. So one is higher, one is lower. It gives a better effect, especially when you're planning to do a second layer on top. So now that we've done this really water down layer, just wanna go in and make sure everything is pointed really nice. And now let's try it and get back with a darker layer, following what we did last time. But I really wanted to show you how the effect is seen with the number of leaves where to add your leave so you can have a little bit of a bigger picture than the previous practice excites. So making them as two in a branch instead of just doing one. Also. So it gives a grouping effect. Again, truly adds on to the final effect than having just one leaf on the right and one leaf on the left. That Variety always makes the artwork more interesting. Though, I'm holding the paint brush the way I draw the leaves is really specific to the kind of brush I would say as well. So this pressure is a good investment for those of you who are ready constraint of a cons during buying a new brush, I would really recommend this just because it's so pretty, it's so versatile, and it's beautiful for these really thin lines. So there you go. I really fun, cuter bookmark. Now let's move on to our project. 6. Project - The Base: Let's start with a project. I've taken a six by six inch paper. Actually it's a six by five. And I have used masking tape along the edges and added masking tape in the center. I've tried to make sure that the masking tape in the center is not exactly in the center. So it's more a country forth to give it a little bit of a different effect. Having it right in the center. And you'll see in the final project how it looks so nice because of that. Now, I'm just planning out where I want to have my big flaws. I really don't like going into too much detail when I'm drawing lose Florio's. But I do like to estimate the positioning of the bigger floss, the mean focal point, just to know that they're not too much in one area or they not two spaced out. It's just a very, very rough understanding and the markings of very light state easily erasable. Before you start, I would suggest testing your masking tape. So put it on the paper. Try try it again just to make sure that your paper doesn't drip because you don't want to do we are anti. And then find out that your masking tape is dripping, right? That's going to be so does hardening or that water is still going through even though you use the masking fluid or sorry, the masking tape. So just to avoid that, I would say do a practice, run off this on like a rough paper before you start using it. Now I'm going to start off with my petals. Remember how we did it in our practice? Very, very thin water, very watered-down Leo, keeping us Center gap. And making sure we have at least five petals. And trying to round it up a little bit just so that it looks a little bit like the petal. And then trying to go up and down, swishing across. Now that I've done this, I'm gonna do a couple of more petals for different for us. I'm in a country that's not too humid, I would say it's not too hard that my beans are in going to dry up very quickly. So try to keep that in mind in case you are in a place where you're painting dries out very quickly, then you want to work a little bit more faster and do won Florida time instead of doing multiple. Because in our second step has you saw in our practice exercise, we're going to go in with a darker tone. And at that point you don't want your artwork to be completely dried because then the blending effect that is so pre to watercolour is now going to be seen. I know that there are some of the penalty and unable to see because of my hand placement. And that's why I've actually done a lot of different let's say you're going to actually see, if you can see it in one flower, you can see at least the other flower how I move my brush. Now going in with the darker pigment. I don't want the artwork to be too wet. I don't want the first layer to be too wet because then the paint is going to rush through too much and it's going to spread everywhere. So you want it to be not too weird at the same time not to dry that it doesn't blend at all. This might take a little bit of experimenting, but once you get there, it's going to be a lot more easier for you to figure out. And then doing the edges of the petals and gently press it dawned, swish it because I don't want too much of the color coming through. Just one bit. Okay, now let's move on to our next bar. Can during the center. Okay, so we've got three nice big flask at the bottom. Okay. I'm just adding a little bit more of the Indigo and the tips because watercolors try it becomes lighter. So I just want to kind of build on that. And you can notice how I'm not doing it everywhere just right at the tip. Because I actually want that area to look dark. Okay, so I've said sped up the process a little bit, adding more class. But you can see these ones a little bit smaller. And what I've tried to do is also have them kind of come halfway through, not the entire floor. So it looks like it is gone, kinda missing in that masking tape area. So for all of these, we're gonna do the Center for the small lines and then though tips of it. And I'm seeing if there's any area that is missing that I need to edit our maybe add more. And now that I've done this, I'm going to let it dry completely before moving on to racing out the pencil marks. So let's try it. Let's erase out the pencil marks. And like our practice exercise, I'm gonna go in at the center of all of these flaws and add our dots, making sure that they gradually fade away as it comes higher and higher up. And I love how this looks now compared to what it was just the previous tab. It looks soul. Fun. It looks so dynamic. Saturdays without adding anything extra. So this is a really good step to bring into your floss. Now let's move on to our next step for the project. 7. Project - Adding Elements: So we are at step two of the project. I'm gonna go in with the second column and I'm going to do our leaves. Remember the leaves we did them practice. Yep, those ones. So a very, very light near of the leaves and then a top layer of Dhaka leaves for this and selecting a turquoise color. Just to add more colors for artwork and not have it a very monotone artwork. So you can see these big leave set up, kind of filling up the space in between them. Okay. So you can see in some places it's much more lighter because I've added more water and some adds a little bit more brighter. But again, it is o very watered-down Leo. Because if I make a layer that is joy dalai pigment it, when I go on to the next step, I'm going to start having problems are the next layers. So let's just make it really watery. Play around with adding more transparency to our talk. Okay? Making sure other tips are all pointed. So I'm going to speed up the process. And now let's move on to our next next layer. Once this is completely dried, sorry, I'm going in with a lesser water, more pigment and adding those little leaves throughout. You can see in this house I'm not overcrowding the smaller leaves, like the bookmark that we did. These are little bit more spread out because I felt like if I added too much, it's going to be too crowded and the artwork is going to be lost, the flaws are gonna be lost. So I have kept a lot of distance between the stems. In some places I'm adding more leaves and some, I'm not really trying to see how it all looks together. 8. Project - Final Details: So we almost done, This is our final step. Have taken a very bright contrast, pink color. And I'm gonna be adding some truly small leaf details. This is step that if you're struggling to use European brush, you can actually just use a sketch band. You can use a bullpen, anything to make the process a little bit more comfortable. I'm just gonna do it with beans, but there's no specific reason why you have to use paintbrush. But it's a good practice if you're just starting out with your watercolors, it's a good practice for you to learn how to do this and be very comfortable drawing thin lines and smaller details. But again, you can just use a color band, so sketch, ban, felt-tip, anything to do this part. The reason I'm doing this is because without it, the artwork just looks very monotone. And I personally don't like it that way. I prefer having some pop of a bright contrast color. And for me the goto is always paying. So that's why I'm adding it on. I'm adding it onto some of the places in between to bring that vibrancy up in the artwork. And you can see now that I've completed, however, made sure that the first three quadrants are very filled up with my flaws. And the last one, the fourth one that's on the top right side, is partly filled, almost like, you know, the artwork is faded away. And I think that's also really good effect when it comes to your final artwork. Because right now we are in a stage where we still haven't removed out the masking tape to see the final effect, right? And that's always a surprise because you don't know what to expect when you have the masking tape on it because it looks like a filled up space. But when you remove it, you actually start seeing how much of a gap is there. But I've kind of followed this. You can have all four quadrants completely filled up, or you can play around with just having the bottom two filled up and slowly fading away to the top. And again, lots of different variations, lot of different varieties, lot of different things that you can clear it using the same technique. Adding on. I'm gonna do a couple of polka dots around with the bright pink to again brighten up the entire block. Playing around with the size and shape of the artwork. Using the polka dots, I can also show the feed faded Effect, which I think is a good thing. You can see on the top right side and make sure that the dot actually becomes smaller to show that it's faded away. So this is our final artwork. It's completely dried and now I'm going to go on to removing the masking tape. You can see that they are more than masking tape. I actually move it diagonally across. I don't pull it out straight up. Diagonally across protects your art work way better. And it also avoids any trip centers in your paper and love during those because it's just kind of completes the entire painting process that makes you feel like you're done with your artwork. And then you can keep playing around with it until you remove the masking tape and it's done. I love how our outlook is looking right now. I love this part, love seeing the final artwork is amazing to see what you come up with. And I'm kind of excited. 9. Added Bonus Project: Hi everyone. So wanted to add in a bonus project, something just really fun using the same elements that we learned in the previous session. Subsiding of Osaka. And then I'm going to add in the element. And you can see how pretty those drugs, it's just in normal times. So I've increased the speed for some of the areas just to speed up the process. But I just wanted to come to experiment and thing and use what you learned in this class in different ways. Enjoy it. I would love to see how you use the elements in your way. Ok. And guess what?
