Hello, I'm Mukta Changmai, a watercolor artist based in Assam(India) & professionally a Banker. I was introduced to watercolors around 10 years back & it has always been my true love since then.

I also run a watercolor blog named THE WATERCOLOR STORY, which helps beginner watercolor artists get a dose of inspiration & knowledge of the medium.

My favourite part of watercolors is quick illustration in my journals. This is something I do whenever i feel like capturing a moment & keeping it as memory. Trust me this is such a stress-buster.

Now, I feel its time to give back to the community & share whatever little knowledge I have of the medium.

1. Introduction: What color is perhaps one of the wildest mediums in all forms of finance, the more you try to tame it more while it gets, but the beauty off it, Lezin living into its characteristics and letting it flow. My name is smoke touching My and I am a watercolour artist based in Assam, India. I am a banker by profession, but an artist by passion. I love to make a quick sketches and watercolors on my water village journals, one of the most fascinating subjects for me to paint his food. I love painting them both from photos and real life presentations off the lessons in this class we comprised off on insight into art supplies needed understanding. Cullerton's on how to make Spain with water, drawing with a pen, starting the painting with first wash, adding settled and highlights toe in depth to any less efficient and adding finishing touches, noise and notes. So by the time you finish this class, you'll be able to start painting fearlessly with water bills illustrate for painting or any still life set up. Learn how toe makes watercolors, learn out of document as seen through a painting with notes, and learn how to make an object tree dimensionally event with minimum breast work. So let's get started 2. Art Supplies Required: well, illustrating it is much recommended that you have minimal toes here for the exercise. In this course, we're using some very basic art supplies. You are free to use their own choice about supplies to as long as it does not bring inconvenience to your learning process. Today, the supplies that will be using at the obvious ones, I think we'll be using Sekera qui pense. You may also use any fountain pen with waterproof black ink for paper. Well, I'll be using an artist until 300 years of 100% cotton paper. I'd said this to experiment with a few varieties of people. It takes a bit of time to finally settle on your personal choice of paper. Now, as far Sketchbook is concerned, I use only Stillman and Burns sketchbooks arm all skin water villa generals. But here again, there's plenty of room for you to experiment with many choices of anyone. I'm moving on to the brushes here again. Very particular. I'll be using art essential and rosemary. What a girl around brushes the size of the breast would very much depend on the size of the surface that you're bending. No, since we do not need any big losses for sketchbooks. We will use round brushes off size 147 Nate, but sometimes you can just finish the whole sketch with just one single breast for paints will be using these two brands. Winsor Newton Professional Water Drillers on Daniel Smith Extra find what, of course, the most important off all some water. 3. Basics: Understanding tonal values: hi and welcome to this lesson where I will teach you a bit about color tones. It is one of the building blocks for a good printing. Understanding the pain toe Waterville, a ratio that is the amount of paint toe mix with water, will help a ton in creating better tonal value in a painting. To illustrate this, I was she area wisdom from master watercolor artist Joseph Book, which, who classifies these are issues into five broad ones. De coffee, milk, cream and butter. Do you would be 20% paint and 80% water. Coffee would be 40% paint and 60% water. Milk would be 50% paint and 50% water. Cream would be 60% paint on 40% water, and but I would be 80% paint and 20% water. From this, it's obvious that the make sure is the lightest one on, but it is the most dense. Make sure off paint watercolor. You will practice all the five pictures, the lightest awful. The would be approximately 20% pain than 80% water. Uh, this is the lightest awful. This resembles the thickness off D, which is very light now moving under the next. Make sure coffee, which is a bit tickled. And d will you mixing her own 40% pain, then 60% water. So this gives us ticker paint. Make sure than the previous one t no more. You want to dumb milk? Make sure, uh, which is approximately 50% paint and 50% water. Naturally, when we had more pinto the water, it will give a taker effect on paper. And we all know milk this ticket and coffee moving on. Uh, this triggered in milk cream maybe. Yes, we'll be using approximately 60% paint in 40% water, some more paint so that it looks ah, competitively ticket in the milk. And finally that Take a stem on all five, which can be compared to butter, but ah, stickered and tea, Coffee, milk and cream. Obviously the approximate that issue here would be 80% painted 20% water. You know, we have got a nice ingredient table starting from the lightest to the darkest. So what is the relevance off all these mixtures in a painting or a drawing? Or to understand this, please refer to the apple that show in the screen we have light on Dr Andi. Mid tone in between, like Tony's were light directly false Doctor is the totally opposite part off the particular object. Your in this case, the apple and the meat own is the area that next the light tone and the doctor. So once we get a little idea about these street owns, we can use this pain toe watercolor issue to depict this street owns Andi, get a good quality painting. And I hope this little lesson will help you in understanding the coming classes in this course. Thank you. 4. Excercise: Sketching with ink: welcome to the first step in exercise. We will try toe, illustrate a breakfast set up their friends. Photo was taken by me. I learned a trip to Paris just as it did in the basics. Lessons tried to this. Will the making the drawing for the illustration with pencil First, This will eliminate the chances off this proportionate sketches. But once you must have the skill of trying, which comes only with practice, you can eliminate this step up ring with a pencil as well. You can then directly start with a pen to start, which will make it line during all the things that we have in their friends. Photo. Here we'll try to simplify objects by not going for extremely dates. Here. We're just making the basic shapes of the objects and maybe a little detail on whether light is falling on where the shadow exist. Once they're done with, the basic shapes will start sketching over this with our Socorro Pickman pens. Who's Inc is permanent in nature? Permanent because for whatever you don't want a before what a soluble ink. Otherwise everything will be spoiled. You can go for any pain with permanent blacking the tons of artists out there who loves to sketch with fountain pens now taking guidance from the base. During that I made with a pencil. I'm no making the pen sketch over, which will apply the first layer affordable. You don't worry too much about details as we're just illustrating or subject and not going for hyper details in the next lesson will directly start with the first layer off, whatever the wash, see you there. 5. Excercise: The first wash: hi and welcome back to this lesson away will now learn a few things about rendering the first wash over drawing or maybe a sketch. This is considered one of the foundations in the painting and hence requires careful planning planning in this case, because he will be living people way to suggest highlights. This highlights will look initially a bit dull, but later it will make more sense when shadows are headed in the required places, not create the first wash, uh, to give very light color mix, maybe 40% paint and 60% water. For this first wash, I'm using a mature off cadmium yellow deep from Winsor and Newton and the pinch off Deep Scarlett from Danielle Smith. Extra Find watercolors. Ondas I said before the proportion will be 40% paint and ah, 60% water. You need not think much during this washes except a paper. What's in between these air? Just careful, sadistic places where light is hitting the object. Hence the white paper. In this first words, I'm using a rosemary number six round sable brush to make the 1st 1 but if you're on a largest schedule, please go for bigger brushes to create the worst. Afford listless. Now, since this is an initial here, as I mentioned before, everything will look flat. And to bring death and some realism, we will have to add shadows which we learn in the next. Listen. Thank you. 6. Excercise: Adding depth with shadows & highlights: Hi and welcome back to this. Listen, we'll be continuing the painting today. Here we'll be adding shadows toe the already applied first waas the same cutters but off a takeover. Make sure for the baskets I will be using a make sure off once in a light ultramarine blue onda neutral tint, all in almost equal proportion. Maybe in you to think will be a bit less than the other two colors. I will be applying it to all the three baskets. Shadows are added to the painting. The objects in the foreground look tend to look more off a treaty kind, and it looks more realistic, more suggestive, and you can feel the motive depending. No, I'll start to it shadows to the baskets. On a more depth. These shadows will make the basket look more three dimensional for the matter. In the tree will be adding a mixture of Kingman green on the global blue little when it dries, we definitely have to add the shadows. It will also start adding shadows to them the basket. Now these baskets have retreated with more shadows, more death. Otherwise, it was looking flat right, and finally we start adding the bigger shadows in the painting in the shadows, which which are coming from the shelf where the things are kept here, come in using ah breasts bigger than the one that I'm using, the bigger the better for greater shadows, the second and final touches to the empty basket on the basket. On the upper left, we'll start working on the tiny jars where various jams are kept. We left some highlights before now it's timeto had shadows to it, thereby creating more death and on idea off glass jars. More settles here. India, Uh, maybe some depth in the basket in the glass jars somewhere, and they're all around the painting, more death in the big decadence so that the mileage looked more relevant. Onda Uh, and now it's time to add some. Some settles to the Matt and the three. This will distinguish the tray from the math and the math from the table. We will also be giving shadows to the glass charge. And finally, uh, judging by the the tone of the painting, I feel like to other light. Wash off the first faint mix that is cadmium yellow, deep and deep Scarlett just to make it more vibrant. Otherwise, it was looking at it when the final listen will be adding the finishing touches, maybe adding some noise so that the A pending doesn't look sharp, Andi also will be adding note. Since this is a schedule thing, adding notes will bring more meaning to the illustration that you will be doing, so see you in the next listen. 7. Excercise: Finishing touches, noise & notes: way back to the final lists and indexes stays in the previous listen. We have already finished offending, but here will have a few very minute. But game changing additions to the finish, uh, will be adding the finishing touches, noise and notes just totally up to your personal preference, whether you want to go for these kills or stop the painting and my fearlessness. Personally, I have never skip this step. In my illustrations, I have added finishing touches Sprinkle pain droplets from brushes to add noise and also a did a quick note student work here. I'm redoing the lengths to make it look a bit more prominent. Generally, this step is stopped me that if you do the base painting with a fountain pen or appended beginning, But I have to very carefully not to overdo it. No, the part which I enjoy the most. Adding noise. Generally, this is a very easy step, but the choice of the most appropriate color is the most crucial factor to keep it simple and easy. Just think off which color you want to be the most dominant in the painting. For me, I would like to go for I did the color of the math and the three, which is a picture off Kingman green or simply go forward already dominant color, which is the mixture off cadmium meal of deep, deep Scarlett. In this example, let's go for the blue. Here I will take a brush with lots of painted water and random Detroit, aiming at only one area in the work. Be sure never to throw it up evenly in all parts of the painting, or else it will look very bad. Another aspect off sketchbook illustrations is adding any notes you can No, don't you experience a little information on the subject, sometimes provoke and then says the beauty of the work even more here. I'm just writing down the name of the hotel where this breakfast table was there. Signature done, and this is how our final work looks like. Give you an idea. I have also presented a few of my other sketches from my sketchbook. The the old on with watercolor and a few notes also has been added, including the date this brings us to the final part of the exercise. I hope you have enjoyed and learned a few things. Thank you 8.
