About This Class

In this class we'll create this funny Valentine's Card using different techniques: we will paint, draw, cut and glue!

This class was created specifically for beginner young artists. The lesson is divided into short videos of 3-9 minutes each, so your child can take a break at any time and then continue working.

Take note: Young artists aged 4 to 6 years need the assistance of an adult (especially when working with scissors).

In this class your kid will learn:

  • basics of collage technique: how to make painted paper, cut and glue
  • how to blend white and black to get gray
  • how to create spray texture with a toothbrush

Dear parents, please read the "Note for parents" before the lesson. You can download it in "Resources" section on "Projects & Resources" page.

For this class you will need:

  • printable templates that you can find in "Project and Resources" section
  • a couple sheets of white thick paper A4
  • creamy consistency and good coverage tempera, gouache or acrylic paints: white, black and red colors
  • large flat and round brush for paints (in this lesson I use MÃ…LA brushes by IKEA)
  • black fine point marker
  • glue
  • scissors
  • pencil
  • ruler
  • palette
  • cup of water
  • desk pad and wet cloth to protect the tabletop from stains and marks

Let's start creating!

Meet Your Teacher

I'm Natalia. I love creating step-by-step art projects for kids.

In my experience I know that young artists need short and simple lessons. At the same time they want to create a great and bright picture. That's why my classes are short in time and easy to make.

I am convinced that every child loves to create and we just need to find the right way.

I wish your child fun and great success on the creative path!

1. Class overview: for these glass will need a couple sheets of white heavy paper. I have a watercolor paper. You can also download and print templates that you can find out the cause materials, or you can take around template like a plate. White, black and red pains Glue. Caesar's that pencil rula that toothbrush to larch. Paintbrushes round and flat black. Fine point marker. My palate, clean water and to keep my table talking. I have a desk pad and a damp towel. That's all we need. Let's get started. 2. Step 1: Prepare materials: fares. We need to prepare the shape off our card. You can take my time plate, got all the shape, place it on the white heavy paper and trace it with a pencil. This option is simpler, and it's perfect for the honest artists, or you can draw the shape yourself. It's a little bit more challenger. I'm going to show you how to draw the shape so you can choose which option is best for you . I need a piece of why thick paper, a pencil and around template. I'm going to use these plastic plate. Place the plate of the paper. We need to leave some space on top for years. And here for tail, I circled the plate with a pencil. I make a bold line so you could see it clearly, but you can draw a light line. Next. I'm going to draw a triangulate years and care of lies for head years, a curved line on one side and on the other side, and we need to draw a tale. I'll raise lines I don't need any more. It's time to cut out the shape. No, I cut out the base for my card. Next, we need to call a rate 3. Step 2: Cut out card's shape: it's time for painting. We'll make our cat light. Grey. A bright red heart will be clearly visible on it. To make gray, we need white and black pains. I put my cat of the piece of paper because I'm going to bake a little mess. You could use a newspaper to cover your work area. We need quite a lot of white paint and a drop of black. I'll take my large round crash. Just take Blake paint on the deep of the brush. Bland pains. Well, I see that I need to add some more black land again. I think I need another drop of black. It's better to add drop by drop to get a call that you really like. The scholar looks nice. I want to test it on a piece of paper. I like it, but until with a cat's body with quick strokes, the larger airbrush the foster, you can paint over the shape. That's why I chose my biggest brush. Set aside this paper to dry. We need another piece off the paper and red paint for hot. I'll take another clean brush Bryant over the paper. I'm doing quick strokes. We don't need to pay the edges. We just need a piece of red paper for heart, and it's not a big next. We're going to add some spray texture. We need some white paint. We're going to make a little mess. So it's better to cover your table with Matt or with newspapers, and we need a toothbrush. I'm going to hold my toothbrush this way, and my finger is running across the bristles off the toothbrush deep that through the Russian paint and create a spray of white paint onto the paper. That's enough. Santis Paper side. I'll take my cat. It's almost try. I want to color these backside, but you can leave it white. I'll take another piece of copy paper and I'll paint over the cat's back. If your cats shape is not dry yet, you can use your head. Try a two speed off the drying while the pain tries. We can take a short break before the final part 4. Step 3: Painting: the paint is completely dry, and we are ready for the final part. We need a pencil. Parola, a marker, seizes and glue. Let's get out of the heart shape as before. You can take my template, trace it and cut out. Or you can draw your old shape of hot. The heart shape doesn't have to be symmetrical. I gotta now the heart shape. - The size is perfect. We need to fold the heart along. These line will apply glue on this spot. I'll take my ruler. Place it this way and fold. That's right. I love you phrase in the center of the heart, - and I'm going to write and sausage off the back. You can write something different. I love you, and cakes are nice cream or something else. I'll drive baseline with a pencil. I'm going to write my phrase and raise the pencil line. We need to place the heart on the cat's body like thes. Don't forget to leave some space for the cat's face. Apply some glue on the heart and place on the cat's body price with your hand and hold a little. We need to glue the detail better. While let's draw the cat space. Let's start with ours. I'll show you different options. You can draw wide set eyes like these, or you can drop glow set eyes or smiling eyes, and you can add eyelashes. Or you can drop round eyes with cat pupils, and you can add eyelashes around the eyes. I'll draw wide set eyes. Small triangle for nose cheeks. Whisk us and years. That's a drop. Pause just outlines. You can rotate the court to make it easier to draw. Open the heart and drop pause on the cats. Tommy claws on the sample. I draw some small sausages, but now I'm going to draw one beak. Sausage. That's it. We're done. My funny Valentine's caught is ready. Don't forget to wash your pain, Precious and to clean up the workplace. This lesson is over. Have a nice day. Bye bye. 5. Step 4: Glue and draw: Hey, guys, in these glass will great and funny Valentine's card Acute head hold in a hot will rock in mixed techniques Way we're going to paint card on drug I hope to see in this class. See you later.
