About This Class

it's the common thing that we are want more of. we need more time to spend time with our loved ones, to enjoy a meal and conversation with friends. we want to enjoy more that life has to offer.

i hope over the course of my tiny, quickfire courses you pick up new ways of working, new tools and processes that help optimize your online digital life, after all. we all need time back!

today is a good day my friends - this is a straight up time saver and once you start using it you'll be wondering why you spent all that time doing the same thing over and over.

text expander is the software for keyboard automation that i use on my desktop, in fact anywhere where i have access to a machine and the download i can install it on the host machine and be up and running with all my setup keyboard macros, best thing? it's cloud based too so you can SHARE with a team.

trust me, it's super awesome.

in this course you will .. .

  • we will be taking a look at text expander, local and cloud based text macro software (it’s awesome)
  • how we use it to make our blogging faster (screencast walkthrough)
  • suggestions of content you could be shaving time from including - footers, hyperlinks, regularly used texts

it's gonna be a fast course because after all, i'm saving you time. i just wanted to show you how easy it was for us to shoot some pictures, edit them, upload them into our blog and do the seo on them copying a common body layout instead of copy and paste using the macro. using this method we can pretty much upload fifty pictures an hour onto our blog. we get money from the adsense traffic from that.

hope you enjoy the knowledge share and you get something from it!

1. 1.0 - introduction: this course is around 20 minutes, another hour, another tool. I'm literally rapid fire getting through all these courses today. This one is about an app that I've just started to use that is increasing my text productivity by like, 1000%. The amount of time that I'm shaving off, actually, putting block post op is unbelievable. So we're gonna be looking at text expander. It's a piece of software that you can run locally on your machine, but also in the cloud. We're gonna get onto the cloud because I think that's the most powerful part this software . And I think it might change the way that you work with your virtual pH on your your team remotely. It's a piece of macro software, so it's kind of like if you've ever used a macro in se, Excel or anything like that, where you type something in and it completes, the rest of it is similar to that. Although you can do this with text and pictures and it's super awesome, I'm going to show you as well how I use it by doing a little screen cast. I'm walking you through that from doing my regular blogging for Nomad Pictures. So every time we put pictures on, I have to put CEO bits of body in which I'm gonna get into in the screen cast anyway. Also going to go through some suggestions off content you could be using to shave off time , including footers. Hyperlinks regularly used text. 2. 1.1 - what is this text expander you speak!: Mac and Windows software. It's a typing shortcut utility from a company called Smile Software. Andi ultimately save you time. It's not just local, it's not just installed on your machine. It's in the cloud as well. So any of the abbreviations that you made for the macro is there also saved in the cloud. If you have a team, you can share them with the team on Dyche's Great for bits of code. I'm going to get into that in a screen casting a minute. It's great for CEO. It's great for blogging is great for footers and email. Six things that you either forget to to put on. Or you can't remember the configuration or the location of it, or whether graphic is or content that you want. Transport with you is just perfect at on tall for filling in saving so much time. It's perfect for remembering the location of assets as well for live webinars. So as you're doing a live webinar like I'm talking to you now, you could just be pressing like shift and one kind type in a couple of characters for the ones that you remember. So, for instance, my Twitter profile instead of me sitting and typing, tow it to dot com Forest Nashville, Campbell. I can just do shift of one tw return Bank Auto complete supports the texting. And that way I don't lose my train of thought while in Douma webinars Really useful for stuff like that. You can insert pictures, maps, regularly used content and remember, this is, well, it's securely in the cloud. So as long as you're logged into that, say their websites and the cloud access, you can carry all your crucial information, bits of text or even copy and paste for a remote virtual assistant to be able to just topping that profile and copy the text out. So for sharing things like passport number or flights and things like that. 3. 1.2 - saving time on a wordpress blog: This is a WordPress in the admin. You can see Here's the title dog against the wall on what I'm doing here, typing out body shift on one and body and you can see I've copied and pasted text that I just normally replace with the title of of the Off the Post. I'm gonna do the same thing again here, so I'm just gonna type make mega. And that's the attack that I have. This which fills out my meta description, which is a super awesome way of doing it allows me toe upload my block post quicker because normally I'd be swapping between tabs to be dear, doing a copy and paste. So I have to add a chunk of this body text and I edit the snippet for the Met attack. This reduces the time that I do it so I could do like 30 or 50 pictures an hour. Onda turned him around quicker. So I'm creating too short, too short cakes, not shortcake, short codes, body and mega. You call them anything you like. I love the fact that put short cakes in. There must have been thinking about food that day. I could go in and change this. But why should I do that is to fully you no longer have to switch between copy and paste. You can just type the short code on job Done. Increases. My productivity means I can add 50 pit pictures an hour with CEO. Just get onto something else. It means I can rapidly turn these things around. You think it wouldn't have a massive impact, but it really, really does. Being album to just have 10 or so different snippets that you use on your block on your tweets on your profile. Really cool little application. 4. 1.3 - ideas where to use text expander: areas that I can think off that this tool will be useful for your email. Signatures for different clients are away to finish on email. Maybe you've got, like, 10 different clients, and you talk to him in different ways. Maybe they have different phone numbers for them. Maybe you have different contact details or email addresses having a different one than just finishing your email instead of typing it all out. Pretty awesome. Probably be using Gmail and having these signatures all set up anyway. But having the ability to do really almost like real time one's going and change these daily, if you like, put a new message of the day on there being out in sort of controlling V on your emails and your paste in the men's Super Super easy. What about your complete CV about having like shift one CV and ultimately post your whole CV recent works that you've worked on like a list of things that you've done in the day or keeping a log of updates? I thought about this from a virtual P. A perspective of virtual pH just created a short code, the jobs that they're completely jobs doing you could press that short code on your local machine and get a print out in a note pad of the things that they're working on. I think there's ways of using text expander that people haven't really considered yet, and I'm just starting to think about how this could speed things up for me that have jumping into email or jumping into a chat program. I could be working on my WordPress document, hit this shift, get a print out of what they put into the short key and then just delete it again so I can find out really quickly what they're working on or what they've completed. You can also do graphics, so maybe have a ready to go ahead shot or a logo or even a map. So having a map that you consent to somebody really quickly as to where you are with the cloud version, you can share these with team members. Like I said, I think that's the most powerful thing. There is a different pricing structure. The free account works really well, but I think it's like four or five bucks per team member, which, you know I think is pretty reasonable and it's perfect for remote admin. Imagine virtual assistance of being able to get updates. I just have to hit the short code when they get in there, get the list of the work that you need from from the day. I just think that's a hugely powerful feature. 5. 1.4 - the roundup: So the round up then, you know, speed up those mundane tasks that take up time that you keep doing over and over again. I found that my block stuff was putting me off actually doing the work because of copying and pasting switching between tabs. Now I can stay in the same view on just hit the short keys and it cos the content out. It keeps me engaged because I could step through each one rather than copy. Paste grabbing, open grab. It is frustrating on it Saves me time. I have not worked out, but I'm sure it saved me. Maybe 10 15 minutes on doing each of those one hour sprints. Great for working with virtual workers. Send them details with a hockey via the cloud. So imagine this. You wake up in the morning, you have your coffee, your right out 10 items that you want your virtual pH to do you assign it to, you know, shift one p a. And they just have to press shift one p a. When they wake up with the coffee, put it into a note pad. That's the work they've got to do the day I think that's awesome. They could go in and also change that and remove the test that they've actually done. So, you know, whereabouts there, out what bits have worked on. So then you could jump into those areas and copy that work they've done into into the I just think productivity wise. I think this is a really interesting called tall help. You love this course. I know it was short, but that's the idea. And he's optimizing your digital life online. I'm trying to save you time. Get your time back so you can actually do things that you want to do rather than the mundane digital task that we all have to do when we work online. So please share this. Tweet it out If you think it was useful Thanks for tuning in today and I'll catch it. We see 6. 1.5 - screencast of setting up snippits: the bonus. What I've done is bolted on a video here about how the software looks and how you interact with it on the left hand side. Here, you can see or your little as they're called snippets. Ondimba Gray. You can see what the short cut link is. So I've got them set up so that they've got on Ah, a shift of one before is in a posturing. I think it's impossibly on. Then you type out the name off the macro. So, for instance, this block foot, which is the one I'm looking up you can change here to either Have it was plain text, apple script, shell script, job, script format, detect pictures, etcetera on. Then I've got this one is plain text this post in my wister you're in bed and then some text and then allow courses that I'm doing so you can see I've got a label set up here which says block foot for skill share. Then the abbreviation is blocked for If I jump over to the note pad here and just start typing Blawg foot, then you can see that it actually populates it in the macro just kicks in and paces all the text that you need. So this is ideal for me to just quickly embeds different copy in different places around whereby tend to do this with WordPress. But you can use it for other things. So I've got another one set up here for courses. So that jumped straight through. Really short one posturing, NYC. So when we were doing a webinar, I could just do that just to any white sea and it just populate the link. So just a really good way off. If you're if you forget, General you RL's that you use quite a lot for Webinars than you could just abbreviate them into sort of one or two characters. Things that you can remember. Sofield Twitter profile apostrophe T w maybe to auto populate the text of your Twitter account profile things like that. That's what I really want to show you hope it's useful. Onda, like said. This is what's really nice about this is you can share these snippets in the cloud. So if you're using this with a team member, they also get a copy of the snippets that you've set up so they can use that same abbreviation from their keyboard, and you could literally drop in maps or head shots or information like that. All right. Thanks, guys. Bye. 7. 1.6 - please share and review (...): while I have you enjoyed the course, Please share and review the course. It really does. Help me out.
