1. 1.0 - introduction: this course is around 20 minutes. Everybody. Welcome to my course about Soundcloud to using Soundcloud as your podcasting host. So we'll be looking at using SOUNDCLOUD is our host provider looking at the settings on the platform and the artists feed your l that you will need bail to feed that into iTunes for your podcast to be listed on apple iTunes. Also gonna get into why is using soundcloud a good idea compared to using a podcast host? What's the differences? And also we're gonna get into five tools that you can use for recording audio for on the go as a mobile podcaster. 2. 1.1 - looking at soundcloud: So one of the reasons why I use Soundcloud. You can share your uploads with Norris feed to enable your listeners to subscribe to that feed in a variety of different podcasting app. So I tunes being the most favorable one. But there is of the ones out there. Use 1/3 party site like pod track to mirror the RSS feed so that before we submit it to iTunes, we have stopped tracking or built him because we don't actually get anything back. Or I haven't seen anything that you can get from Apple to actually show you how many downloads how many people are listening. The good thing about soundcloud. As far as I can see, there is no bandwidth issues or space issues. If you have a pro unlimited account now, obviously I'm very lucky here because I have a pro unlimited account until 2018. It might be out of your it might be cost prohibitive for you to use soundcloud, but I'm gonna go into some of the reasons why I like using sound clouds. It's more of a month multi functional host than just a podcast host for on P threes or audio files a really like the feature in Soundcloud that enables people to comment as they're listening to the audio. No, not everybody is going to be listening to it from Soundcloud because they're going to be listening to it from your iTunes or various of the places that you've syndicated the Soundcloud RSS feed. But when people are maybe sharing, get over Twitter or Facebook, maybe off your blawg, then people can comment directly on the timeline as they're listening so they can stop pause, leave a comment or they can just comment as you go. And I really like this feature because you can get Teoh here where people were leaving, you know they were listening to the commentary. Well, they're listening to the content on. They felt the urge to engage, and it's the engagement factor that really drives this kind of content. You can also still use soundcloud for all the content. You're not just limited to uploading your content to it, Andi. That's just your RSS feed. In that account, you can manually set for each item which one you want in your RSS feed so you can do it two ways. You can get a full account and just have that being your podcast and nothing else. Therefore, you can auto enable the ability toe, have RSS feed, pushed it toe I jeans all the time with the content, or you can do what I do, which is manual. That way you can manually add what post you want into your podcast and then also use soundcloud as a new additional audio recorder. If you're on the ground at an event or you're trying to do interviews with somebody, you might not want them necessarily to go into your RSS feed for your podcast. But you want somewhere to store them, and I'm gonna get into why I think soundcloud is better than some of the platforms out there. 3. 1.2 - settings on soundcloud & itunes: to take a look now quickly at the Settings panel, which is that setting for slash content underneath your soundcloud dot com accounts and you'll see the feed that you need to submit to iTunes is listed here underneath the content tab. You get dropped on the account tab, and it's a bit confusing because you can't find it. But you tab along to content, uses RSS feed link there. Also, while we're in this panel, you'll notice that the section that bottoms has upload defaults and I don't take that so that when I I use my soundcloud account for other things as well. I use it for putting audio on their to put on blocks and then I manually add which one of the new posts are supposed to go in the RSS feed. So if you had your own soundcloud accounts and it was just for your blawg, you could put that on, including your RSS feed and everything you're blowed would go straight to your SSV. But I do it all manually, so I'm gonna jump through to one of the playlists. Now, this is a playlist for City on. All I've done is upload all my individual audio to this playlist, and the reason why I've done that is just to keep all nice and tidy is easier to share the podcast as a set but also to differentiate normal audio recordings from the ones in my podcast. And then I've jumped through to an individual one here and the reason why I've done that I wanted to show you by going onto the edit tab that all I do is I go through to permissions and you can see here it says, including our SSV distractedly include in your RSS feed if it is public. So I just take that when I've uploaded the content for it to refresh in the feet. I also use this thing called pod tracker. But I just started using it just a bloated it because we're just about to start this podcast called City. So you can see here there's subscribers and you can also see the downloads and you can see that it's a new podcast. And all I've done is I've set this in the subscriber redirect and that way on the stat service, your old prefixes. Well, I've also put that in there. I've noticed that. Actually, it says MP three. I'm not sure what I'm not gloating in at the moment, but I will. It blowed in MP three in a future for the stat service, but I think the subscriber redirect tracks as well. By the looks of this, it looks like it's working. And then I go over to Apple's podcast Connect. So that's podcast connect or apple dot com on there, I can click on new feet. It's like a plus bottom already in it here. And if you hover over this, you just drop in a your L, which will be the U. R L from here to submit your iTunes podcast and then you just check. It's working by Do a scan on the iTunes store. 4. 1.3 - why use soundcloud?: All right. So the big thing for me is it? Set it and forget it. If you're going into podcasting full time, which we're just about start new podcast. I don't want to be worried about upgrading my plan, costing mawr running out of space any of those additional issues. I'm not saying that those issues are gonna happen necessarily, depending on how much content you pushing out. But I just don't want to have that problem. I use a lot of cloud services now, for instance, like Google Drive, which cost me $10 a month for one terabyte. I know that I'm never going to touch that in my current cycle of what I'm doing with my backups and my content and even put ousting courses on there. I'm not gonna I'm probably about 600 Meg into my one terabyte. I've got plenty of breathing room. So that's one of the reasons why I like the podcasting pro account with Soundcloud is that I feel like I can set it and forget it. The other thing I like about Soundcloud is there's a lot of applications out there which have the ability to export to soundcloud. So I can use that additional cloud space that on limited space to store content on. The other thing about Soundcloud is it's got a super clean interface out of all the audio recording places and audio storage places. Audio playback. It's got a really super nice. She wide the applications a really great. There's a lot of people that's supporting Soundcloud, and one of those companies are supporting. Soundcloud is Twitter. They feel that their communities in alignment with Twitter's on recently soundcloud after probably been around for five or six years of probably wrong. Probably longer than that. Twitter jumped in and dropped 70 million to help them out. And admittedly, Soundcloud is worth 700 million, and it did go through some rough period of time because they're trying to change the model so that it can compete with things like iTunes entitled and things like that. But I still believe it's gonna be around at least the next two or three years. I really also like being l to record on the go. There's an app called audio copy, and I can record an interview, pause our interview and send it directly to Soundcloud. I've got a setting in there. That doesn't manually add those bits of content in tomorrow's RSS feed. So I've almost got two sides to the coin. I've got one, which is my RSS feed, which is my iTunes feet and then on the other side. It's just audio space where I can upload audio and get it to auto post out to the Web as well. So if I'm at an event, I can literally record and push it straight away, I think this is a great valuable application for digital. Nomads are on the go. Like I said, social sharing works incredibly well, even down to when you share something on Twitter or Facebook. The in line player allows you to play it right there and comment right there, give you feedback on it, and some places don't do that. Some podcasting hosts are just a host. You upload your content. They don't have investable, which it widgets or they don't pretty. They're not very slit, and I just I think that soundcloud I've got the A better clean offering 5. 1.4 - great applications to use: so some tools for recording content on the go, one of the ones that I first started with a great app from two guys that I originally met. I think in New York at Pakistan event called Boss Jock Studio. It's great for making podcasting on the goat as various been seeking put samples in a music you can literally make everything on the fly on the go. Save that file out and you're done. So imagine just rocking about a venue, getting two mikes out, putting splitter in, recording all their audio bits, dropping in the music elements, exporting that out. And there's even a feature to share it directly with Soundcloud. So everything is built. It really like Buy stocks studio really like the guys and making their always updating it. And then this solid offering, I think this one is free is audio copy On and again, this is directly integrated in soundcloud. So what, you've done your recording, you can send it straight across into soundcloud. I use a combination of both of these. I think it's always good to have a backup at sometimes the app come crash or sometimes an update can make it not work or featured gets broken in some way, So it's always good to have a backup application. You never want to miss out on the interview, another one that I want you to look at, which I think is interesting for bloggers and also interesting for people putting content on Amazon Video Direct is red dot com have got their own voice recorder, and the thing is, with Rev compared to the other ones is actually got translations built in. You have to pay for them, but you can do it all from the phone so you can do a recording doing interviews. Somebody send it to read for translation. 24 hours later, you have all the tax that goes along with your audio, which you can use to embed on a block. All the text with the audio recording fully searchable by Google rate for S e o something that I suggest you have in your tool belt. The other thing is the html five player. Everything is this hate mail five these days for super clean, super fast loading to all their current browsers obviously support html five, and I just find sound clouds in bed the most clean and simple one. There is out there another idea for you. For people who are on the go, you can use something like, say, Pia Zia Piedad. Calm to trigger actions When you you upload a new track, or maybe other people in your group or their advocates are also at the event uploading their content, you can trigger that those actions to do certain things you've never used as a peer before . It's fantastic for linking one thing with another things. Lots of applications and websites that do this around aware to other different services. So this is like fine tuning and speeding things up while you're on the go on the ground. 6. 1.5 - the roundup: so the roundup. Hopefully, you've made a bit of a more informed decision about Soundcloud and maybe give it another look. I've been using it for a number of years. I found it Rock solid really enjoyed their interface to really enjoy the experience, and I think that's one of the things that I'm trying to get across for. This is that there's other things that are great for hosting. But I just don't want things to come out the woodwork when you're scaling up. And I found that this packages is a unified packages three packages across a broad board and they work really well. I discussed why it's more than just a host on the tools that worked with it. I hope you'll go and have another look at it. If you've not looked at Soundcloud before, please do go on play. They've definitely got a free account that you can use. Have a play with hate mail in beds, have a look at WordPress plug ins. If you're running a WordPress block, it's definitely warned to look out, and I hope that some of the suggestions that I've given you give you a bit of a bit of a push Get the most out of soundcloud. Maybe you've got a soundcloud account and you're just not getting the most out of it. Really is a great way for you to get content audio content on the Web. I would really like to see a future for From Anchor, which outputs to soundcloud. I think that would be a very valuable addition. Questions confused love the information here. I don't know. Let me know. Share and retweet this if you can, making courses as fast as I can. I've got about 55 courses lined up now, and I've probably got about 14 15 14 and 15 those up. So I hope you enjoy this strong idea of all of the 20 minutes. Hope you enjoyed that. Thanks for watching. 7. 1.6 - review and share (...): while I have you enjoyed the course, Please share and review the course. It really does. Help me out. Click on the triple dot button. Leave a review shared with Twitter and Facebook. I'll catch up with you.
