A previously published covariant decomposition of the Levi-Civita tensor has demonstrated the strong mathematical parallel between gravity and N = 2 YangMills theory. We use this to argue that the an R2 type Lagrangian has a stable vacuum of lower energy than the perturbative vacuum. Using a Lagrangian in this form instead of the more conventional Hilbert-Einstein Lagrangian allows us to use the Clairaut-based formalism published by one of us previously to handle gravity’s topological degrees… Expand

Monopole condensation in SU ( 2 ) QCD

- Physics
- 2002

Based on the gauge independent decomposition of the non-Abelian gauge field into the dual potential and the valence potential, we calculate the one loop effective action of SU(2) QCD in an arbitrary… Expand

Cho-Duan-Ge decomposition of QCD in the constraintless Clairaut-type formalism

- Physics, Mathematics
- 2015

We apply the recently derived constraintless Clairaut-type formalism to the Cho-Duan-Ge decomposition in SU(2) QCD. We find nontrivial corrections to the physical equations of motion and that the… Expand

Confinement, vacuum structure: from QCD to quantum gravity

Abstract A minimal Lorentz gauge gravity model with R 2 -type Lagrangian is proposed. In the absence of torsion the model admits a topological phase with unfixed metric. The model possesses a minimal… Expand

Renormalization of Higher Derivative Quantum Gravity

- Physics
- 1977

Gravitational actions which include terms quadratic in the curvature tensor are renormalizable. The necessary Slavnov identities are derived from Becchi-Rouet-Stora (BRS) transformations of the… Expand

Gauge-invariant gluon mass, infrared Abelian dominance and stability of magnetic vacuum

- Physics

We give an argument for deriving analytically the infrared “Abelian” dominance in a gauge invariant way for the Wilson loop average in SU(2) Yang– Mills theory. In other words, we propose a possible… Expand

Torsion as a dynamic degree of freedom of quantum gravity

- Physics

The gauge approach to gravity based on the local Lorentz group with a general independent affine connection A?cd is developed. We consider SO(1, 3) gauge theory with a Lagrangian quadratic in… Expand

(2+1)-Dimensional Gravity as an Exactly Soluble System

- Physics

By disentangling the hamiltonian constraint equations, 2 + 1 dimensional gravity (with or without a cosmological constant) is shown to be exactly soluble at the classical and quantum levels. Indeed,… Expand

Non-Abelian Stokes theorem for the Wilson loop operator in an arbitrary representation and its implication to quark confinement

We give a gauge-independent definition of magnetic monopoles in the SU(N) Yang-Mills theory through the Wilson loop operator. For this purpose, we give an explicit proof of the Diakonov-Petrov… Expand

A MINIMAL MODEL OF LORENTZ GAUGE GRAVITY WITH DYNAMICAL TORSION

A new Lorentz gauge gravity model with R2-type Lagrangian is proposed. In the absence of classical torsion, the model admits a topological phase with an arbitrary metric. We analyze the equations of… Expand

Improved QCD vacuum for gauge groups SU(3) and SU(4)

- Physics

Abstract The effective energy for a covariantly constant background field in a pure Yang-Mills theory is calculated to loop order one. For gauge group SU(3) [SU(4)] it is found that the “vacuum”… Expand
