About This Class

Hi everyone and welcome!

This class shows the step-by-step process of using your art to create a repeating pattern in Photoshop. The purpose of making patterns is to go on to use it in other art projects, be it mixed media, or crafts and origami.

The first third of the class explains my approach to coming up with an idea or concept for the pattern. This part is subjective, and left entirely to the personal preference of the student.

The class follows the idea of drawing your illustrations separately, then assembling them however you want into a larger picture. This approach is different from the more commonly used tile concept, where an artist draws a complete tile from start to finish in a manner that allows its endless repeat. The reason this class goes with the former approach instead of the latter is that it allows the re-use of the same illustrations in dozens of different combinations.

You'll see 3 things when you watch this class:

  • Thought process to conceive the idea for a pattern (this is just how I do things. This is completely subjective)
  • Creating a seamless pattern in Photoshop (main objective)
  • Extras: PNG files of the 6 illustrations used in the class to create the pattern (in case someone wants them for practice)

This is a traditional way of making patterns in Photoshop but the personal style of the teacher makes this class a great passion project!

Artist Stuck in the 90s Still

I'm an artist located in the true city that never sleeps, Cairo.

Creating art and storytelling are my passions since childhood. I'm currently an art student next to working a non-art-related full time job. Outside of work hours, I'm learning and creating, both by myself and with professionals.

Learning and improving my art and myself is a lifelong journey.
