Compared to the other classes. This course covers owned the keys from the keyboard in a step by step practical approach. I also included color coded keyboard caps. Is it to print the news? This class is dedicated to people who are you with touch type and to beginners who want exercises. Tools increase their typing speed. In about 40 minutes, you will learn a new skill that was searching for a lifetime. You will be able to save a tremendous amount of time to make a great impression and upgrade your professional life. So let's get started 2. The Home Row Concept: Hi. Welcome to the speak to touch type in section and we are getting started with a very important concert. That's what this principle we can type without looking at the cable. So how is it called? It is the home keys concept. A picture is worth 1000 words, they say. So please check out this image in Cedar Grove letters A S, T F G H J, and so on is called the Home row. And when your fingers match the position off the fingers from the image, you are using the home keys to achieve these star by putting your left index finger on the letter F, then spread the other fingers accordingly on my one. Put the left middle finger on the letter D the ring finger on the letter us and the pinky finger on the letter A. Now for the right hand, put the right index on the letter J, then point to the right middle finger on the letter K the ring finger on the letter l and the pinky finger on the key with the science in my Colin side, both thumbs should also rest on the space bar. This allows you to type of space using any of the films. And if you decide to type of space using the same found every time, that is also okay. Please try it out. Disposition, if you can't And if you feel like typing a SDF, nobody can stop you. So go ahead. This is where your finger should arrest. When you are not actively typing a letter, please have in mind that your finger should be slightly curved and should arrest close to the middle of each key, and you should not be able to see the letters from the keys were looking at the key port on most of the keyboards. The F and J Key's have a slight Petrosian on top off the key, so you can easily tell. But you're back on the home road without having to need to look directly at the keyboard in the video of them from the screen, you can see how I am typing using the home position. This finger placement allows you to maximize the range of keys your fingers can access on your keyboard and reach every key with the minimal movement, which helps to increase your speed. Sometimes your fingers especially the thumb, can travel from their home position in order for you to read specific keys in practice, you will also use the right hand to navigate with your mouth, and that's OK as long as you always return to the home keys. So again, it's okay from time to time for your fingers to navigate away from the whole keys, as long as you quickly return to the home position. When you are not using touch typing, you're losing speed as your fingers. Usually the index fingers need to travel more to reach specific keys. But you are, as we're looking at the keyboard to type and then from time to time, looking at the screen to see if you type correctly. This double focus on the keyboard and then screen is killing your productivity, and it is absolutely not necessary. All right, let's now explore starting to type, using the keys from the homeroom. I'm very excited to get started, so let's move on to the next lesson 3. Touch Typing the Home Row: Hi. Let's now learn how to time the characters from the home room. We start with the left hand. Use your pinky finger to type A. Use your ring finger to type us. You will use your middle finger to type D, and you will use your index finger to type F as well. Slightly stretch your left index finger type G once again left hand, Use your pinky finger to type A. Use your ring finger to attack us is your middle finger to di di. Use your index finger slightly. Stretch your left index finger to Type G police either too helpful images on the screen. Now for the right hand slightly stretch your right index finger to type age. Use your index finger to type J. Use your middle finger to type K. Use your ring finger to type. L Use your pinky finger to type semi Colin slightly stretch your pinky finger to type the apostrophe side as well. Very important. Stretch further your right pinky finger to hit the enter key once again for the right hand , stretch your right index finger to type age. Use your index finger to type. Jerry used her middle finger to Type K is a ring finger to time. L use your pinky finger to type semi Colin slightly stretch your pinky finger to time the apostrophe aside as well. Very important. Switch further your right pinky finger to tap the enter key on a few key words. In between the semi colons and the enter key, you will find backslash key. You can also see it in the image here. If this is the case for your cable configuration, then use your right pinky finger to type this character. Please know that in the exercises the backslash is included in the top row. This is because more keyboards have nowadays this character in the top row that in the home room, right after you slightly stretch your index or your pinky fingers to type J age and respectively, the apostrophe keyed backslash key and enter key. Please remember to always returned into their home position, for example, five G, then place your left index finger back to the F key. Remember that almost off the keyboards, the F and J case have a slight protrusions on top of the key, so you can easily tell when you're back on these honkies without having the need to look directly at the keyboard. One more thing that usually is not converted. The other typing classes on the Homaro. You also have the caps low key. I'm willing to bet that you can guess how to die this key. Yes, slightly stretch your left pinky finger to tap it. Now It's very important that you will always use the shift keys that we will cover in one off the next lessons to type the capital letters for now's for the beginning of the sentence and someone this is even more important German, for example, where all denounced start with a capital letter. Using the caps long will slow you down, as you will need to press it twice, first to enable than to desirable it. The only exception would be if you need to type the text that only has capital letters or let's say the majority off. The letters are in upper case 4. Touch Typing the Top Row: Hi. Let's now learn how to type the characters from the top row. We start with the left hand, Use your pinky finger to type cube. Use your ring finger to type double. You use your middle finger to type E. Use your index finger to type are slightly. Stretch your left index finger to type T once again left hand, Use your pinky finger to type que use a ring finger to type. W Is your middle finger to type E. Use your index finger to type are slightly stretcher left index finger to type T. Please see the two helpful images on the screen now for the right hand slightly stretch your right index finger to type. Why use your index finger to type? You use your middle finger to type. I use your ring finger to type O. Use your pinky finger to type B slightly. Stretch your pinky finger to type the open bracket as well. Stretch your right pinky finger further to type the close to bracket. Finally, if this key is on the top row your keyboard. Stretch your right pinky finger even further to type the backslash sign once again for the right hand slightly. Stretch your right index finger to type. Why use your index finger to die? You is your middle finger to type. I use a ring finger to type o use your pinky finger to type B slightly. Stretch your pinky finger to type the open bracket as well. Stretch your right pinky finger further to top the closed bracket. Finally, if applicable, stretch your right pinky finger even further to type the backslash side. Let's see now a demo on a few keyboards. You will find the backslash key in between the semi colons and the enter key. You can also see it in the image here. If this is the case for your keyboard configuration, then use your right pinky finger to type this character. Please know that in the exercises the backslash is included in the top row. This is because more keyboards have this character in the top row than in the home row nowadays. Right after you execute any off the top row typing like, for example, typing que with your left pinky finger, please remember always to return the finger to the home position. This is also valid for any of the stretches for example, effort. After typing, t put back your left index finger to its home position on the letter F. One more key that we didn't cover for the top row is the tab key. This key is quite important as it is used when typing passwords and filling in forms. We will talk about this key that you will off course type using the left pinkie finger in a future lesson. As you could notice, the right pinky finger has the biggest workload as it can be used to type up to four characters from the top rope. How they're very in practice, you will be less typing the brackets and back slash than the letters. All right, when you will be moving on to the practice file, you will notice that category of exercises that involved only the top row, then another category involving both the rose, the home on the top row. Please make sure that you learn the characters from the top row before executing the combined exercises. Take your time, be patient and results with slowly start to come 5. Touch Typing the Bottom Row: all right. Are you excited to learn now? The bottom row. After this lesson, you will know how to type all the letters from the alphabet, so let's get started with the bottom row. First, the left hand Use your pinky finger to type is that here's your ring finger. To type X. Use your middle finger to type C. Use your index finger to type V slightly. Stretch your left index finger to type B once again. Left hand. Use your pinky finger to type is that. Use your ring finger to Type X. Use your middle finger to type C. Use your index finger to type the slightly stretch your left index finger to die. Be. Please see the two helpful images on the screen now for the right hand slightly. Stretch your right index finger to type end. Use your index finger to type M. Use your middle finger to type coma. Use your ring finger to type period. Use your pinky finger to tithe slash stein once again for the right hand slightly stretch your index finger to type and use your index finger to type M. Use your middle finger to timed coma. Use your ring finger to die, period. Use your pinky finger to tide the slash sign. Please note that this is the only row with 10 keys excepting, of course, the shift keys. So you will be using older fingers only once for one key, except for the index fingers that will type two keys right after you execute any off the bottom row typing like for example, typing Zet with your left pinky finger, please remember always to return the finger to the home position. This is also valid for any off the stretches. For example, after typing, be put back your left index finger to its home position On the letter off, One more key that we didn't cover for the bottom room is the shift key. This key is very important as it is used to type all the uppercase letter efficiently. We will talk about this key that you will, of course, type using the pinky fingers in the future lesson. All right, now it is time to practice. Please make sure that you learn the characters from the bottom room before executing the combined exercises. Take your time because system with a touch typing in order to break the potential habit off looking at the keyboard, and soon you will be typing all the letters without any effort. 6. The SHIFT keys - type Capital letters and special characters with ease: on the most under keyboards. There are not one but two shift kids located at each end off the bottom row. This allows you to capitalize on a tour using the shift key off the hand that is not used to type the letter. So, for example, you use the left hand to type the letter T for a capital T letter. Then you will press the shift, located in the right, using the right hand. Another example. Use the right hand to type the letter U for a capital you letter. You need to press the shift located in the left off the bottom row, using the left hand. Let's now see a short demo for these two examples. You will be using the pinky fingers to press the shift keys. Now it's great that the shift key is one off the long and nice keys from the keyboard, So once you learn the stretch, it will become easy to press. Remember the stretch should feel natural if needed. Slightly moved the other fingers from their home position and rotate your hand to tap the shift key. With these right after you press any of the shift keys, please remember to always return the finger to the home position. This is also valid for the other fingers. If you slightly move them to access the shift key with more ease now, you must always use the shift keys instead of the caps lock key to type the capital letters from for announce for the beginning of the sentence and so on. Using the caps lock will significantly slow you down, as you will need to press keys one after the other and not in the same time. And you will also need to use the caps lock twice. First enabled them to disable it. The only exception would be if you need to type attacks that on Lee has capital letters or let's say the majority of the letters are in the upper case now. The shift key is also used to type the second character. The one up is on top of a key, wherever applicable. Let's now cover these special characters that are type using the shift key at the right end . Off the home row. There are the Colin and the double quote science, So use the left pinkie finger to press the shift key on the right pinky finger to press any and type on any off this keys. At the right end of the top row, there are D Open and the close curly brackets on the majority of the keyboards. There will be as well, one more key, and that's the vertical line. Use the left pinkie finger to press the shift key and the right pinky finger to press any off this keys at the right end. Off the bottom row, there are less than the more than keys as well. The question mark sign for the less than sign. Use the left pinkie finger to press the shift key and the right middle finger to press. The actual keep for the more dense sign is the left pinkie finger to press the shift key and the right ring finger to press the actual key for the question. More sign. Use the left pinkie finger to press the shift key and the right pinky finger to press the actual key. All right, you can now use the exercise files to practice using the shift key. First, I recommend that you repeat the exercises a few times to feel a bit confident using the shift key, Then you can feel free to now apply touch typing to any type of situation that work at home at school and so on, and use it as an opportunity to practice some more and increase your new typing skills. 7. Measure your typing speed WPM: I want to introduce you now to a free online tools that you can use to measure your typing speed and accuracy. It also measured the typing speeds off any off the individual letter keys. So you will be able to see how fast you type a how fast to type s and so on. It has ready to use exercises, and it also allows you to upload your own text. So it's pretty cool as a recap. By this point, you learn on the letter keys and the shift key as value focused on the accuracy by using the simple work file to type, hopefully slowly and accurately. So now we are ready to use this tool to record your initial touch typing speed so that as you get better, you can track your progress in the next weeks and months. So please head over to K b r dot com Once again, k b r dot com And here you can already start typing and you will see your speed here measured and the accuracy the number off errors. You can also see the speed compared to the last session and the same for the accuracy. Now I wanted to show you a couple of options that you have with this tool. So first of all, you have a couple off options to switch the layout. You can switch between having the stats and the text to time, having only the text and having everything together with the keyboard. So in the beginning, the cabe or can help you to a visually see where the letters are. But we practice. You will be using this parlous unless now, the 2nd 1 is the dark color, so you can switch to the dark are or the standard color. Now, in order to time the text you off course, you need to click here inside and you start typing. You can change the tape text size from here, make a smaller or bigger. You can enter the full screen mode and start typing here or exodus mold. But when we want to do is to go to the settings and here, as you can see, we have a guided lesson. So we are now focusing on the letter e. By the way, until there there are a lot off the letters inside this text and we have the option to enable capital letters or punctuation. But what do you want to do is to go to the second option, which is to provide your own custom text. Mutual will do in a couple of seconds, but I wanted to show you before that is that you have the keyboard layout set out here and by the fold you'll be having the quality. But you can change. For example, if you want to have the German keyboard just in front of your eyes for the visual cues, you can change it from here. Let's go back. And from this third tab, I usually don't change the selected options. So let's go back to the learning mode before going and typing the text and click on Provide your own custom text. And what you want to do is to use the text that is given in the practice file so that you can start typing and record your initial speed. So you want to head over to the practice file and scroll to see more practice. Let's go with control. Click there, and now we want to copy this text from level one and use it inside this option. Provide your own custom text just faced it. And now let me paste this text here and you have the initial tax. And before moving to the practice, you want to remove this too. Default options. So you wanna have punctuation in your text and you want to have a swell upper and lower case. So going into the future, let's click now on done after you do this and then we can start typing and to record our initial typing speed. Let me do it now and now It's easy to see your statistics so far, in my case, the speed it's noted here and the number of errors as well. And we can see us well, this speed for the individual keys. So, for example, here of a spinoff 80 on and we can compare that with the best typing speed. This is helping us to focus on a particular key and improve the speed and a currency for that key. And by the way, the text that you have in the practice file is creating using all the letters. So you will be able to see the statistics for every off the letters here. All right, start from here. Repeat to the text over and over again. Feel free to use your own texts, but at this stage avoid numbers and many of the special characters. Keep going, focusing accuracy, and you will notice that you're typing. Speed will slowly increase with exercise. 8. Touch Typing the top Number row: learning how to properly tie the numbers from the top row can be more challenging than for the letter keys, given their distance from the home road to make it easier for you in the beginning, you can't look at the keyboard. Type the numbers while saying them out loud in order to develop the proper muscle memory. The exercise book is also split into for this stop number room so that you can take this more slowly and focus on accuracy. Let's now learn how to type the characters and numbers from the top number. We start with the left hand. Stretch your pinky finger to type the gravity accent. This key is just on the left off the one key and it seldomly used. Please allow your hand to slightly rotate clockwise. To support the stretch. Use your pinky finger to type one. Use your ring finger to type two. Finally stretch your right pinky finger. You know further to deal it, using backspace as recovering the previous lesson. Feel free to support your stretch by rotating your hand counterclockwise. Let's see now a demo good , right after he execute any off the top number route typing like, for example, typing one with your left pinky finger. Please re remember always to return the finger to the home position. This is particularly important when you go through the practice. You'll notice that the exercises initially focused on the top number, or only so it is very tempting to leave your fingers to rest on the top row. Instead, after each typing present returned a finger to its home key. This will help you devil of the flexibility required to type this keys fast. The number keys are as well used while typing, so not properly learning them will negatively impact your typing efficiency. You will also need to practice more disk ease. Therefore, I recommend practicing each line at least 5 to 7 times. Please go ahead would practice take your time with this more challenging room. In the next lesson, we will be covering the special characters from the top number. 9. Type the special characters Top Nb Row: It's very important that we cover the special characters right after the top number row as you will be using the same fingers to type these characters. As for the numbers, the only difference is that you lad, the shift key off the opposite hand. Learning how to properly type with special characters from the top row can be more challenging than the letter keys, given their distance from the home room to make it easier for you. The plus sign Good, right after you execute any off this typing like, for example, typing the exclamation mark with your left pinky finger. Please remember always true. Return the finger to the home position. This is particularly important when you go through the practice. You notice that the exercises initially focused on the special characters from the top number, wrote on Lee, so it's very tempting to leave your fingers to rest on the top row. But instead, after each typing, please return the finger to its home key. This will help you develop the flexibility required to type the skis fast. You will also need to practice more this case. Therefore, I recommend practicing each line at least 5 to 7 times. Let's go ahead and practice. Take your time with this more challenging road, and the next lesson we will be covering the numeric keypad 10. Touch Type the Numerical Keypad: than America keep at his direct angle off numbers and operators located on the right side of a K board. Learning how to talk the numbers from the miracle Cape at properly can be very beneficial for financial and accounting rose. Everyone who is typing many or large numbers can used in America keep at to increase typing productivity. This keypad has its own home position or the fingers will rest men not typing. The right hand is used to operate the characters from then a miracle keypad. Let's now see this home position. As you can see, the fingers should rest in the middle row. In particular the index finger on the four key, the middle finger under five key. The ring finger on the six key, the pinky finger on the plus key Tom can arrest on the zero key. Let's see this fingers in action from this position. Every finger is responsible for a vertical Kahlan, for example. The index finger will type on the keys from the column, the number lock, the seven and the one keys on a Mac. The top roll off keys can be different, but remember, the principle is the same use every finger from the right hand to time the keys from the vertical condom. The only exception is zero that should always be tied using the thumb. Let's now see a full demo to make it easier for you. In the beginning, you can look at the keypad tied. The numbers were saying them out loud to devil of the proper muscle memory. The Cape it practice is also split for each finger so that you can focus on accuracy. Let's go ahead with practice and take some time to master to keep that in case you're needed. In the next lesson, we will be covering the remaining things life control and tab 11. Using CTRL Tab ALT: Let's now talk about the control key. This case is used in combination with a lot of keys to create powerful shortcuts that can save you a lot of time on big keyboards. You'll find to control keys on the very bottom rope. If this is the case for your keyboard, you will use control with the same principle. As for the shift key, let's take one example in word, you can use the shortcut control and oh, to open a document to type this shortcut, you can use the left pinkie finger to press control. You will stretch the finger, but mostly rotate your left hand counterclockwise to be able to reach this key at the same time. You will off course, use the right ring finger to type the Oh. Now in practice, you will find that most of the laptop keyboards compared to the big USB once don't have the control key on the right side. So for shortcuts like control, see which I'm sure that you know that is used to copy. You will need to use the same hand to press the control and the sea keys. In this situation, your hands willing to travel from the home row in order to be able to access the keys. There is no one rule that applies to everyone. For example, I'm using the left pinkie finger for control and the left index finger to Type C toe based . I use the same fingers, but I stretched the left index finger some more to reach the V key. You might use the same fingers or different whatever. It is easier for you. The shortcuts can save you on important amount of time. That's why we can afford put the fingers to temporarily leave their home position. You might also want to look at the keyboard and list in the beginning to president needed keys properly. One crucial key that this used to fill in online forms, but as well Excel files or tables in every office Up is the tab key. This guy is located on the left hand, off the top. Let her road to press it, simply stretch your left pinky finger. This game is also used to end on the paragraph inward for a similar purpose. It is used in programming languages like the D B A to end in the code and make it more irritable. Another important, he is the out key. Thanks to the proximity to the space bar, you can use your dump to type this Keith. The alky will allow you to create more shortcuts, and it is the core secret in accessing mass free navigation in the Microsoft Office APS, all the other key is not covered by now. Include the F keys or the function keys and some other keys, like home and page ob page down and song. They are not used in typing, but instead you can use them separately or in combination with other keys to create specific shortcuts. There is no one rule that applies to these keys. Therefore, similarly to the shortcuts control, see or control V feel free to use whatever feels more comfortable to you. So here you go. These were the special keys to create shortcuts 12. Conclusion: All right, this conference, the video materials, please feel free to continue your practice and re watch some of the lessons for better results. I am violent thing.
