Project Description

Hello Everyone!

In this class I am so excited to take a slight step back from my first class and teach some basic tips and tricks for creating patterns that are more than basic. By the end of the course you should be comfortable creating seamless repeating patterns in several ways.

Project Description:

In this class project you'll be creating a mini pattern collection of 3 patterns using 3 different amounts of motifs (1, 3-5, and multiple) as I show in this class.

  1. Find inspiration and start drawing the motifs for your future patterns using a drawing tablet or traditional media. (Note I will not be covering how to digitize your analog work.)
  2. Bring your work into Adobe Illustrator to edit and get ready to create a pattern.
  3. Follow my video instructions to learn how to create different styles of pattern designs using Illustrator's amazing Pattern Make Tool. And build 3 patterns of your own. One with 1 motif, one with 3-5 motifs and one with many many many motifs.
  4. Make two color versions of your new repeating patterns so you have two different looks/moods/styles. Possibly one dark and one light. Or one with a sophisticated muted palette and one with pops of bright color.
  5. Post your finalized repeated mini pattern collecion as well as your original digital sketches to the project gallery, for all of us to see and to ooo and ahhhh over… or critique nicely and constructively.

**You can find my short cut cheat sheet and color palette inspiration file in the class documents!**

I seriously can’t wait to see all of the amazing patterns you come up with! Feel free to use my projects as inspiration. But I ask that you try to find your own unique style.

Also please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions, I am of course here to help if you get stuck anywhere along the way.

You can also find me on Instagram and YouTube for more free content from me.

Thanks so much for taking my class!

XOXO Kristina
