Project Description

The Colored Pencil Selfie

ASSIGNMENT

Your assignment is to create a self portrait rendered using colored pencils. The project will teach you how to shoot a high resolution reference photo that will be used for multiple stages of your project. Using the colored pencil techniques of blending and layering, you will be able to create your life-life selfie! Note: You are more than welcome to use a photo of a friend or family member as opposed to a selfie!

DELIVERABLE

Share your project for feedback. Share your reference photo, paper choices, stages as you color, and, of course, your final selfie!

RESOURCES

Materials:

Paper - I recommend a medium weight, light tooth paper. I will be using a craft card stock from Michael's, my local arts and crafts store. My other favorite brands are Strathmore and Canson Mi Teintes in neutral shades. Avoid white! Let's have fun with toned papers! Creams, tans, pastels!

Colored pencils - I use a mix of Prismacolors and Faber Castell Polychromos. It is not necessary to have both.

HB, 2B or 4B Pencil

Markers - I use Prismacolors

Pencil sharpener

Erasers - white and kneaded

Ruler/t-square

Workable spray fixative
