1. An Introduction to this Class on the Family of Tutankhamun: Hello there. My name is David James Holt, and I would like to welcome you to this skill share class, which is the third part of my history course, Howard Carter and the search for tooting Car Moon. The class is aimed its history. Students who are studying this period at school or university as well as those of you could have a general interest in history and ancient Egyptian history in particular. In part three of the course, I take a detailed look at the family of Tutankhamen, where you will learn about Tutankhamen's bloodlines. Thought most of the fourth Amenhotep the third cannot in and never TT. So go ahead and enrolled in my class on I look forward to seeing you only in sight. 2. Bloodlines: In 2009 extended DNA tests were carried out on the mummy of Tutankhamun, as well as other members of his family. The results of these tests were published in 2010 and were interesting to say the least. It was now proven that Akhenaten was not Tutankhamen's father in law, as had previously been believed, but his actual father. It was also discovered that Amon Ho Tep, the third was his grandfather, and that ANC ascena moon was not just his wife but also his older half sister. Finally, it was discovered that never TT was both his stepmother and his mother in law. These ancestral relationships were actually very common amongst the Egyptian role family, as it was thought to guarantee the succession of blood lines. However biologically it came at a price Do Tink. Our moon and his half sister had at least two miscarriages, the unborn fetuses of which were buried with the Faeroe in his tomb. And Tutankhamen himself suffered from a number of conditions and maladies which are believed to be heritage tree. Due to his incest. You'll bloodline before it is possible to properly discuss tooting car Moon and his Rayna's Faeroe. It is important to first put his short reign into context, which means taking a look at his family's history, beginning with his great grandfather, thought Moza before. 3. Thutmose IV: that most of the fourth was not actually ever meant to be Faeroe. He managed to serve his older brother, the crown prince, as ruler. The famous dream Steely, which was directed between the two poles of Sphinx around about 1400 BC, makes claim to a divine legitimization of his right to be Faeroe, according to the story inscribed in the steely the Sphinx supposedly spoke to thought most of the fourth in a dream and asked the prince to free him from the sand. In return, the Sphinx offered the prince the crown of upper and lower Egypt. The dream about, that's thinks, was not the only enlightenment that thought most of the fourth hat. He also had spirituals, visions about the sun disc at in and during his reign, the importance of at In grew considerably that most of the fourth died young. And the clearing of the Sphinx was the most notable achievement in his 10 year reign, which was considerably shorter than both his grandfather's reign of nearly 54 years on his father's reign of 26 years that most of the fourth's mummy was discovered in 18 98 by Victor Laura within the money cash at K V 35 and an examination of his body showed him to have been very ill during the final months of his life. A later analysis by the Imperial College London suggested that the early death off but most of the fourth, as well as those of his grandson, back in Art in and Great Grandson to Tink Our moon may well be due to familial temporal epilepsy. This would certainly account for his untimely death and explained his religious enlightenment as this type of epilepsy is associate it with intense spirituals, visions that most of the fourth was succeeded to the throne by his son. I'm Imhotep for third. 4. Great Sphinx of Giza: Did You Know?: did you know? Although no one knows for sure when the Great Sphinx of Giza was originally built, it is believed that the head of the Sphinx is based on the Pharaoh Cafa, who reigned in the fourth dynasty from 2558 to 2532 BC After Tuck, most of the fourth restored the Sphinx. He placed the dream steely between its paws in around about 1400 BC. 5. Amenhotep III: Amenhotep, the third, the ninth pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty, was an extremely successful ruler and is often referred to as Amenhotep, the magnificent Amenhotep. The third has the distinction of having the most surviving statues of any of the pharaohs. Over 250 of these statues have bean discovered and identified as being him, which is perhaps not surprising as Amenhotep, the third reigned for 38 years, during which time Egypt enjoyed unprecedented period of prosperity. When Amenhotep the third died, Egypt was at the very height of its power, both politically and financially. Unlike most of the pharaohs, he was buried in the western belly of the Valley of the Kings in Tomb W V 22. However, later on Amon Ho Tep, the thirds mummy was moved from this tomb on placed in a site chamber of Cavey 35 along with several other pharaohs where it lay until Victor Laura discovered it in 18 98 6. Tiye: Did You Know?: did you know, tear the great role wife of Amenhotep. The third was thought to have been very close to her grandson Tutankhamen. Strands of hair and miniature coffins inscribed with her name were found within his tomb and appeared to have been a memento off his beloved grandmother. 7. Akhenaten: Tutankhamen's father, Akhenaten, reign to 17 years, and it's probably the most controversial off the Egyptian pharaohs. Up until the fifth year of his reign, Mark in autumn was actually known as Amenhotep the fourth. He then changed his name to Akhenaten as a show of his devotion to the sun disc, a thin, the rather strange portrayals of a cannot in with his long, thin face. His large breasts and sagging stomach have led many scholars to believe that he was suffering from some kind of hereditary disease. Others believe that the feminine depictions of luck in art in in pictures and statues are not to be taken literally, but instead relate to some form of religious symbolism. Due to the fact that the gold at thin was referred to us, the mother and father of all humankind during the reign of Akhenaten is Father Amenhotep. The third the solar at In was extensively worshipped as a gold. Where it was depicted as a four can headed man in much the same way is raw. However, when Akhenaten became fear oh, the status of the sun disc atten was elevated to the one true gold. This was the first known example off monotheism. I eat the belief in one gold I cannot. And also moved the capital away from the city of Thebes to the new city of Akhenaten. The site which is known today as Amana. This was so that he could break the influence off the powerful temples and established his own preferred choice of deity. Soon he began to repress the worship of our moon which did not go down a tool where with the high priests of arm nor the other priests of the old religion. 8. The Sun-disk Aten: Did You Know?: Did you know Akhenaten's attempt to abandon the traditional Egyptian polytheism on replace it with a monotheistic religion centred around the sun? Disc at in was ultimately doomed. After his death, Arkan Autumn was discredited by future dynasties, referring to him as the enemy. 9. Nefertiti: at the beginning of his reign back in art and married his cousin, never TT, who became his great royal wife and is one of the most famous queens of Egypt. Thanks in part to the Nefertiti bust by the sculptor Moza, which has become an icon of feminine beauty, I cannot. In an effort, ET had a total of six daughters, including their oldest daughter, Mary Turton. They are also believed to have had a son together, smitten Qari, Although this is yet to be proven beyond doubt, what is known is that's men. Qari became the 11th pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty following the death of Akhenaten, but only ruled Egypt for one year. It is also known that the 12 pharaoh of the dynasty, never never photo captain was female on only ruled for a further two years. But it is still not known whether she was, in fact, Akhenaten's daughter, Mary Taton, who was also some ink Ari's wife and possibly his sister or never t t her cell. The true identity of never nephew Rawat in may never be known, but there is no question as to the identity of the 13th pharaoh of the 18th dynasty. His name was two ton car Moon, the most well known fair of the mall, who ascended the throne of Egypt at just nine years of age. 10. Your Class Project: Hello.
