About This Class

Have you got a Rubik's Cube lying on the shelf, which as been there for years, always scrambled, never solved? In this video series, I will be teaching you how to solve the Rubik's Cube in 7 simple and quick steps.

I created these lessons in order to share my knowledge with everyone. I first learnt how to solve a Rubik's Cube 3 years ago. I followed an online, text based tutorial that I found difficult to follow along with. I wish I knew about Skillshare back then! Now, I can solve a Rubik's Cube in about 40 seconds. I know it's not the fastest, but I'm happy with it. I hope that with this tutorial I can bring more people into the cubing hobby.

If you have any questions regarding the series or are stuck at any point, please get in contact and I will answer every question asked to me.

Enjoy!

1. Introduction: He says to me certainly one in 20 people who earn a Rubik's cube. Now how to solve it? And I'm here today to try and change that to two rows aimed at complete beginners. It will teach the basic method. I hope that you find this tutorial series is useful if you have any questions, but I knew the steps for a stuck at any point, please leave a message from the discussion section and I'll be sure to respond to any concepts. Gets out on the first step of the solving process. The white cross. 2. Step 1: The White Cross: The first and most important step of solving any Rubik's Cube is creating a white cross. And every sold method starts and the step. So it is very important to learn it. And the good thing is it can be done completely intuitively. So what do we mean by white cross? Well, here I've got an example of a white cross. Notice the plus shape on the white face and how the edges with a white cross match up with the centers of the other faces to form bands that go around the bottom of the cube. But now we know what we had before. How do we get to I find the best way to solve the y cross completely intuitively is to think of the yellow layer as your active layer. What you want to is any pieces that you're currently working on into this layer. And then from there, you can easily search the pieces. Because if you think about it, in order to get this blue and white piece here, there's any t plus one we miss that can be done to get out there. You can either turn the white face to get the 2py star. But the assured that instead ofs it is terms, the other pieces where we're working, that's not ideal. The other thing you can do is by telling the blue face together piece there. And then this will be able to put any of these three corners, these three edges into this place here on the white face. Sometimes these two here can be bit quitter accessing pieces into. So I find the best place is this one right here. And this one is used to get pieces in because he could freely turn this layer. And it's any simple turned away to put the pieces into the white layer. Say, quickly talk through that. I'm going to show you a few examples. So, so the white cross, and then hopefully from now you'll be able to pick it up. I've scrubbed up the cube in a completely new pattern. So I'm going to teach you through my thought process behind no, I cross. First thing I'm going to do is look at the white layer itself. And I've only got two edge pieces here. However, they're not in the right place. This one here is a read X3 center, and this one here is blue, but it's next year, Orange center. So the first thing I'm going to try and do is solve these two on the right face. And for me here is quite easy because I can just do this term. And now the pieces are aligned with the centers, which makes it easier. But if it was more like this and then they spread apart, what you can do is this one's really lined up. So just move out the way and then simply turn the white face to that. The blue that matches up with the blue center, like so. And then just turn threat face back. So then you've got this bit here which matches a plus. Well, then I would look at the top yellow face, find anymore white pieces in there which I need to put in. There is one, says it's green and white piece here, which needs to go on the white lab. I'm going to turn the top layer now to match up the green, the green center. Let's say from here, just turn Greenland twice. And you'll see that here is matched up the green with the white face. Now to find the last edge piece, again, I saw but by looking at the top and it's not here, which has been on this here. And it needs to hit right here. So there's a few ways we could do this. You could, the way I would suggest to you is to move up into the top left and then turn out the way. But as you can see here, by doing that move, we've now move this white bread piece, how to cross roots, which is turn the, turn that face back down again to that three, match the blue center, that blue and white edge. So now turn our attention back to this piece. So again, we want to match at the centers and then just turn takeaways twice. Then create the white cross. Ago. There's one example, so I'll show you another one that's coming up the cube again and now in a completely new so again, I'm gonna first time attention to the white face and look for any pieces, white edge pieces that are in the white face. Taught me this time there is no, any. So the next thing is to look at the other face. And here as one to two edge pieces that needs to go on the multi-face. So let's start off with this red and white 1.5. So what I'm gonna do first is because the white is not pointing upwards, is pointing to the side. We can't just turn in the face twice. Then matchup provide, see, here, it does not match up. So I'll do that second. I'd recommend you do it. It's just turn the face once. And they just said now that I've matched up the red sites. So position it next to a red face and turn it into the very face like this. And go the red matching up until the red face to match up ph with the y center. And then here again, continuous him with abuela to on the blue face. Now put it to a next whip. Turn the piece into the Rufus, and in turn the blue phase to match up the center. But you notice that in doing that we've kind of messed up. They're readier to turn that back. Oh, that's back in the right place. So again, ten by attention, back to the top layer, which is this green and white piece here. So I'm going to match up the green because this time the white is pointing upwards. So I'm matching up the green here with the green center until interface twice. So now we've got these three places in these three pieces in the right places. And then kinda look the last piece, last edge piece, and it's here. Slightly OK. It's part because no matter what we do, they would always disrupt the part of the white cross that before he sold in order to avoid that working materials up top there. So then the pieces out of the way, let me bring it back down to restore the cross with pieces now in the top left and we can deal with it. So we're exploiting that puts surge kinda match up the white with the orange, orange center until the orange face twice to then match up the orange with the what form, the last part of the white cross. It's now you've solved the white cross. Now it's time to go on to the next step. And this next step, we'll be solving the corners to quickly complete the white face. 3. Step 2: The White Corners: So we've done the white cross. Now we need to move on to the corners. And the process behind this is very similar to the solving of polite cross. Again, we're going to think of the white, the yellow layer as our active layer and put all the pieces were working with in this layer two then insert onto the bottom though. So the first thing I'd like to, to look at the data layer and identify any white corner pieces that are there currently. So we've got quite a few here now. We've got 123. Notice how they will put white on the corner. Awesome. Now, let's focus on this red, blue, white piece first. What I'm gonna do is put it directly above the corner where it needs to go. And look at the colors. It's red and blue. So I'm putting it on the red and blue face directly above this cone here, which is where it goes. And what you want to advance, the cube is in this position. Crap ought EPA face that the white corner is pointing out on. So if Hear me now, the white is pointing outwards on the red face, Minecraft direct face. Okay, turn this face away from you and then turn the top face. So here the walks match up the boats and the red, that job. And then we want to do to bring it back down. And if you see, we've been able to insert this corner into the right place. So now it matches up, we've got this little block here of white bread company. Okay, so onto the next piece. Again, we look at the top that we find the next group, next lookup. Let's look at this piece. It's white, orange, and blue. And here's would eat directly above where it needs to go. And it's bit different this time because he said the White being pointing to either of the sides is pointing directly outputs. So in order to remedy this, we want to do is turn any face and turn it away from you. And then just turn topper in away from it and then bring it back down to here. Notice now this piece that we're just looking at is now being rotated. Subtle piece. The white is now pointing away and not towards it. Now we do it exactly the same as before. So we turn the top face until it's directly above where it needs to go. Because you see the orange and the blue. The blue and the orange faces directly. But for white layer face whether point is pointing outwards on turning away from you. Turning the top layer, then you get the white matching and the orange matching. Bringing up their back down to then match a backup with westslope white face. And we have now inserted this piece. Again. The other two pieces that back at the top there. Here's a piece right here is a white, red, and green piece. So again, a Scotty directly before it needs to go, put the right here and right here. Green and the green. So cramped the face. Or the boy went out with one. Turn it to push the top pair, two matches up here and bring it back down. We've got another piece back in here. That's fine. The last corner piece. And it's right here, got the green and the orange and the white piece. So again, turn it back to above where it needs to go. Green, the orange, green and the orange on the piece of crap, the face of whichever the way the points pointing between the CIO and trace, turn it away from you. Bring the top across to match up if the center of the edge piece here, which bring about town. And then it's hot with the rest of the white face. Now you go just done it on the white face. It's easy enough. But I'll talk you through another one of the solve now for the corners. So here I got, um, can I scrub it now and sold it to the point where I'm looking to the corners. I've already done the white cross. It's now which is looking to put the corn isn't there, right basis. Turn again. We want to do you cook them white, yellow face and identify any white pieces on the space. Required to. Here you've got this one and this one. Let's first look at this blue and orange piece. So it's, what do you below for any stereotypes that's good for him to turn it. And all we're going to grab the face where the white is quitting outwards. So here the weight is on the orange base, cropped the image pace, push it away. Then just turn took them to match up the white and the orange and bring it back down to re-form part of the Cross. Now, let's look at this piece. Green, orange, and white. So again, turn the top Beth to match up next to the green and the orange faces. And then directly buffer it needs to go again, crabbing the green face, tuning it away from us, doing the top face, and then bring it back down, then reform. So now if you look at it, it looks like for three of the coin is that we've already done took them. So if you look at this quantity here, notice that it's not actually told this an issue. So what we can do is simply put this corner him here, then force this Q back out onto the top layer without just turn it away from you. Push it across, bringing it back down. And we've got this cube here on the top left, and then we can now work with it. And this place is now free for my book wiped corners to go into K. So let's solve this corner. Turn it, or at least to go craft the face the whites pointing out one term on the top there to match up the white and the red. Then bringing another red face back down to then match it up to the watch face. Now critical one corner it afterwards, find that here, the top there. So again, ten above right, nice to go. Grab the face where the weight is pointing outwards. Turn it away from you, push it across and bringing it back top. May get again, we don't know what you're there and you're 1 third of the way now to finish them, keep modem. 4. Step 3 Part 1: The Second Layer: So now you've completely done this first layer. You completely solve the white face. So now in this step, we're going to be solving these four edges here to complete the second and be two-thirds. The way to completion. This step is a little bit more tricky than previous two, but it's still easy and you'll get really quickly. To the first thing, again is look for pieces. Can the yellow layer that needs to go in the layer that we're currently looking at, say, this layer right here in the middle. So that's a piece on the edge with no yellow pieces. Yellow, so it's belongs on the top there. And this piece here, he's reading greed and has no yet at one. So it doesn't belong anywhere. Topper, some fee for one of these poor places along here. So what we want to do an issue is match up this face on the side to the center, such term top layer to match up this right or this right here. Now, for India's position, there are two different places that this crack, this cube can go. It kinda go to the left here into this place with the blue because it is green. So the other place it can go is to the right to match up with green center here. Okay? So now we know this piece here that's got to go to the right. So it, because they've got to go to the right. This influences what we do next. So what we have to do is push it the opposite way. So here in the sky right, we're gonna turn the top there to move it to the left. And then it's in this book that we wanted the cube, sorry, just turn this upwards and then bring the top layer back in the direction you want the piece to go beyond the piece to go to the right. Turn on the top of their tickets to the right. Then want to turn back down, right layer. Match up this edge. Backup with rest or white cross. Just as you do this, you also form this block here of the two pieces are meant to connect to each other. This is good. For now. What we're going to do is turn it off once again in the same direction. So that's to the right. To move out the way. We want to lift up where it needs to go. So this piece, this block here, nice to go here. So we want to do this up in a way without moving this. So we could bring feast, dislike this slot here up like that. And if you notice, noticed have moved this clock that, which is not good, we don't want that. So we simply turn the other face to bring this block up. And if you notice, we can notice to this cross, match up these white pieces to form a line. And then these red pieces you're gonna block as well. Then we have to turn that face back. Now we've noticed we've got this whole block complete, whether the red, the green, and all the edges are much up. One edge dot. So let's look for another piece. Here. We've got this orange and green piece. So first step is to match up this color here can tell what's the center terminal yellow layer once to match up the orange or the orange. Now this piece here you want to skip to the left, doesn't wanna go here to the right. Keywords script hit the left. So first step is push the orange piece to the right away from where it needs to get bringing up the site where it wants to kill upwards. On top there, back in a direction opposite to age turned it seems to me that back to the left. And bring this slide back down to them and we form across from here, Tim top, face once again in the same direction to the left. And then we're going to be inserting this block here. So we want to bring this kind of space up into the top layer. Don't wanna do it that way because that brings the block Kohlberg coming down. Which term? The other one. And then turn the top layer again. Then match up the white and the oranges here. Let's bring that back down. Then recompute the white layer. And this piece is now in the right place. So let's do that again. So we look at the top-left next piece, and here's the next one we can do is orange and blue. Sphere. Again, look at the piece or the color pointing outwards. And again that's orange. Term top layer to match up the orange with the orange set time. This time, this piece wants to go to the right to bring up the side, the right side, push it to the right, push the top plate to the right, and then bring the right site back down to form a block here. And then turn the top layer once again, to me it out the way. And then we're going to insert here and turn it, turn it this way. Then that brings this block out what the way, which isn't good. Just couldn't do that. If we want to turn this space. I'll put to make a space where the pieces need to go to the top layer to be able to bring that across TO match up the white and the oranges. And just to turn it back into its place, to now re-compete for white face once can now play lacrimal q raised to one piece, left hit. So, so again, we look for the piece, and here it is. Read compute piece is going to push it in the opposite way. Bringing up the slide should back across. Downside. If the topic again, rotate the front face, insert the book into the rest of that block. And we've got this entire two by three area print outback town. So you've done it, you've done it, you've done it, you've solved the two layers. And I'll do this again because there's another case which you might come across in which this piece might be in the right place, but flip the runway. And in that case, I'll show you what to do. 5. Step 3 Part 2: The Second Layer: So I'm partway through the Soul and I notice that there's no more edge pieces which don't have to get to that in the year two layer. Look here, got a yellow and a red. Put again in a blue, yellow and an orange, and you get to an agreement. There's no white pieces anywhere on this top layer. Specially look, that must mean that the edge pieces we need are ready and the layer that they need to go. And they are. So we can see this orange and blue one right here is in this kind of middle layer which we're currently looking at and serve this orange and blue, as you can clearly tell that they're in the wrong place. So how would we get these pieces out? So then we can put them in the right places. The best way to do this is to just focus on any of these random pieces in the top layer to insert that piece into here. Then forced this piece out into the top layer where we can then solve it normally like the others. So let's say for example, we wanted to force this piece out onto the top layer. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to put this piece here into here. So again, it's the exact same process. So I want to put it to the right. I'm gonna move this to the left. Bring up the site where it needs to go. Bringing the topic back across, and then the site back down. And then keep turning the top, they're in the same direction. And then turn the front face. So you've got the gap but here, ready for you to Tim talk there. What's going to match up these oranges here and this white as well. Bring that back down section. You see it's green and yellow piece is now where the orange and Greenpeace was, which is good because that means now the orange can Greenpeace it on this top yellow layer here. Then us to then put in the right place. And if you notice the US pitting dish, Greenpeace in here, we then force out this orange and blue piece at the top here. And we can then put the orange really piece here. It's meant to q two again, wants to go to the left and push it to the right and then bring up the site needs to go in Britain a top-down practice cross, slip back down to quick block or the orange and the green. And then a terminal pair once again in the same direction as before. Then we want to insert into this block here. So we want to bring this space buff and at the top there. We do that like this because otherwise it would move this block down, which would at one, tell me your interface part. Okay? So this block across the ten top piece to their match up the white freaking out back down. And it's now or in the right place. And we put this block here. Okay, so now to move on to this last piece here, want to look at the orange and blue piece, which is right here. So can match up the orange on the site with the orange center turning the top tier. So to oranges now matched up once go to the right piece here. So we want to turn it to the left. The left print right-side up, move, back to the right. Move right space down. Popular again to the right. And now what we want to bring up this block at the top there, we don't like that. But the mass pull this out of the way which don't want to undo that. Terminates basins tend to bring that book on to the top there. Let me just turn to match up the whites and the oranges and the blues. Bring that back down to again. But he complete two layers. So that's what the processor needs to. If you find that the pieces are in the right there, but they're in the wrong places, were in the wrong orientation. 6. Step 4: The Yellow Cross: So if you made it to the earth, stepped UQ snobby, two-thirds complete. We've finished the first two layers and the white face, and now you're on theater face. In this step, we're looking to create a yellow cross in a similar manner tower created BY cross at the very start. But you know, so this time we're going to be using one series of US a few times to, in order to create that yet across. In this position now, there are a few different possibilities that we can have when looking at the ROI you face. Now, just now we've only got one white piece pacing up CO2 just got adopt. Yet of course validity is that we have oh, shape here. Next post-war outcome that we have, that we have aligned so that these two pieces here on the edge of our rotates peak, which outputs these two are pointing it out to the sides. So that's not good. On a 100 case that we can have. Case how the y cross is going to be fully complete. Either we've got all these five pieces correctly oriented the right way. I'm ready to move on to the next step. So what I'm going to teach you is going to cycle through all the different possibilities. I'm going to teach you is as follows. First step, rotate the front face or front trace clockwise. Then the right hand traced clockwise as well. Buys enraged to face. And then finally to the top face clockwise. So it is a three. And the next three moves, and she can be undoing these moves a slight different order. So the first bits to, is to turn the right face and anticlockwise. Then turn the top face anticlockwise and actually do that. You should see that this block here reforms with the whites, the blue and the orange. Lynch turn the front face again, then Bree complete a white face. So if you notice that I went from adult to this our shape. So to get from the O shape to them to the line, you want to rotate it to get this phone that backwards now in the top left-hand corner. Taught it in this way. Otherwise it could set you back a step which couldn't mess with the rest of the cube, which takes a bit of your time to make sure to hold it. So he's a backwards owl on the top left-hand side of the cube. And again, you just rotate the front face clockwise, right side clockwise, an upper face clockwise. And then right side, town. Topside, ARCA crossed a reform that block and then CrunchBase clockwise to re-compete the white face. So now as you see, we've aligned to guys, talked oh, shape, line. And then finally, the other cross section. Make sure the line is horizontal tubes that's running this way. It's way. That's not too bad. And I'll take you back to the doctor, but hold it horizontal and it'll take you to the cross. So again, run face, right, face up or face will clockwise. Then, alright, so I packed down uppercase back across, then front face, back down to reform their white face. And now you see that we created the white cross on top. And you've done a two-step side. 7. Step 5: The Yellow Edges: So now you've got the white cross. This step, country positioning each THE so that they're all in the right place. And three, so the first step, we're gonna want to position it in such a way so that you can swap two pieces like this in any university that wants in order to solve for q. Now I'll show you what I mean. Here. You can see that the orange piece might look like this then will use three other pieces were drawn. Musician reaches ten and top layer once. We've now got this red piece which matches up and this cream piece which now matches up. That means we only use this swap, these two pieces with each other. And water for the white crossed, a yellow cross to be property sold. And this is good because the movement come compounds teach you, swaps these two pieces. So that we have is as follows. What you want to use with your right-hand alternate, moving the right pace up and down until the movie is done. But in between each of those, you're going to be the top face. Clockwise. Looks like on the right face to the clockwise. Ten honorary trace back down to the clock. Those, that's the basic principle behind move. Steer this hold the cube sphere that the piece that you want to say holding one of the pieces you want to swap in front of you. And the place where it needs to go to the side to left hand side. And the move is, is for us to firstly tomorrow site up and then turn the top face once and clockwise. And the right say pack down from top face clockwise. And then tomorrow, so back up. And then instead of just 21 says time. We turn it twice. And the way to remember that is you need to look for when you can turn the top layer twice to then. 8. Step 6: The Yellow Corners: Fluctuations, the penultimate step. So now we have been looking at the corners for white layer and moving them into the right places. In this step, you don't care about their orientation. Just sat there in the right places. So again, it's the same as precept. I'm going to be teaching you one set of moves. We used a few times to get the final result. And Matt, what you start off with, the thing going to want to do is look for any pieces and he cornered PC stata in the right place. We're ready. Now here, this piece here, marketplace because it's yellow, red, and green. And he's on the red, green, and yellow sites. So this isn't the right place and might not be the right way. And I'll be rotates to the right, right. This has good. He's no ICT-based, that's what we need to. And you will never you only ever have one order of pieces non-face or none of them. As soon as you find one, that's who has great. So you need so if you have one piece in the workplace, but he wants to do is hold it. So that's in the top that after the front face or you cannot hold towards you said this is currently facing towards me. So I'm quoting. So positioning this cubed fees. But if you didn't have any pieces and I place it, Mari, just use the same width. I'm going to teach you. What we'll do is we'll swap these three corners here. Anticlockwise directions. Say for me, tell me with this piece, this piece here, this piece hit. And that will just put with me seeing our place. But you have no pieces in the right place already. Both the cube in such way that when one of the pieces in the menu positions, this would MB, it's quite pace. Say like if case two pieces are swapped, still hold in this way. Unless It's piece here was token here. And then from that, they could hold that piece like Heron top left and then to the moon again. Tumors a minute anticlockwise longer piece we want to keep. He's gonna top left-hand corner. And this is as follows. We are going to be doing these alternating turning left or turning right, ten left and right tend to that. And then in between those moves. And again, you can meet turning topless backwards and forwards. Like so. I'll put out together now, show you what I mean. To start off with Columbia at the right side. And then top face anticlockwise. So you should now prick on this bar. And this block is now like furthest away from us. Tearing me up the last slide. And turn to face anticlockwise. Took reform this pile once again and bring rice like back down to secure that back into position. Achromatic light face, Turn and Talk face anticlockwise. And bring that back down. And can Rihanna I face? And then just turn to face. Yeah, just now this piece in the right place. If he's smart, place this piece, this one. So we're just like with these pieces, anticlockwise direction. Status again a few more times just to show you to get the rhythm in the layer behind it. So say I want to keep this piece and we're getting the top-left, right-side-up, top face, left side up, top face backwards to re-home a block. And noise-like down and took place anticlockwise three from the book. And I'm bringing up, back down cross price right up, top place across expert of type. Back to I was being back down, topside, back and Rihanna block and then turn aside, back down again. And then finally, again. One last time. Piece I want to keep on top. Then after nice, right-side-up, clockwise, clockwise to reform this block like down top face anticlockwise two again. And this book, and then that slide back down and then turn the face back again to match up the centers. And the Hs, once again, now should have all the pieces in their correct locations, is it's great. We can now move on to the final easy step. O horses. 9. Step 7: Rotating the Corners: But I'm method for finding step. Luckily, discovery the easiest step now process. It might be a bit difficult and there's still some things you can mess up. So it's important to pay attention. But what I'm going to be doing is teaching you four moves that we use to treat it or the corners, and finally complete the cube.
