*Check out our Full Oberlin Maker Kits and use the code SKILLSHARE for 10% off your order*

In this class, you’ll learn to create the Oberlin Tote with Ellie Lum, the founder and pattern designer at Klum House. The Oberlin is a sleek, stylish take on the classic market tote. In just a few hours, not only will you be thrilled to have completed a tote with your own two hands, but you'll also have learned indispensable bag sewing tips to handle heavy-duty fabric, install zippers, and attach leather straps.

Project Features

  • Finished Bag Dimensions: 13.5" H x 12" W x 5" D
  • Premium-quality leather + waxed canvas
  • Strong, durable construction so it can easily carry a laptop, books, or groceries
  • 4-compartment exterior pockets
  • Reinforced base for added structure and carrying capacity
  • Magnetic snap closure
  • Hanging interior zipper pocket
  • D-Ring to attach keys
  • French seams

Download the Pattern and Instructions

Please download the pattern files numbered 1-6 in the Resources section (these are the newest files).

Note: If you purchased an Oberlin Full Maker Kit, you will not need to print the pattern as all the pieces are already cut and marked for you!

There are two ways to print your pattern.

1) Print the tiled pattern on your home printer at 100%

2) Send the full large pattern to your local print shop and request lightweight paper.

Tools + Materials

We'll cover the necessary tools and materials in the videos, but you'll also find a complete list in the "Start Here" pdf and the Instructions Booklet. If you want to make it easy on yourself, check out our Full Maker Kits and Leather + Hardware Kits. Use the code SKILLSHARE10 to get 10% off your order--we've got you covered!

WHAT TO UPLOAD TO THE PROJECT GALLERY

TOTE BAG

  • Please upload your finished project to the Project Gallery & show off your beautiful creation!
  • Use the Project Gallery to tell us what materials and fabrics you used for your tote

-----

**Note to current and past students: We've recently updated our videos with new, refreshed versions! Don't worry, all of the major construction components for the bag are still in the new videos, they've just gotten better. Not only are the new videos higher quality, they include new construction techniques while showing you how to use some of our favorite tools and materials.

The older Sewing Machine 101, Design and Fabric Strap videos will stay included with the class through the end of the year but will be removed in January 2020.
