About This Class

Hi! Welcome to my Skillshare Class on how to perform sleight of hand magic. In this course I will teach you 5 basic effects with everyday objects that require a small amount of practice and will create an unforgettable experience for your friends, family and everyone you choose to perform for. You will learn how to vanish and tranform objects, destroy and restore them in addition to knowing what the spectator is thinking of.

I've been doing magic for 10 years and had the pleasure to share my passion for the art of magic with everyone I performed for . I got booked in all kinds of venues, met many different people and got to entertain them and made them remember what it's like to experience the feeling of wonder and astonishment.

However, rather than experiencing this, it is also very fullfilling to give that experience to someone. That is what i'm trying to achieve with this course. I want to give you the ability to do that as well and go out there and bring joy to other people.

That is why I've also prepared a class project to get you started.

This Class is suited for everybody who is interested in learning the sleights and principles that make magic work. It is ideal for beginners who want to perform and practice.

The magical Experience is divided into 19 individual lessons that showcase the sleights, the performance of the effect in front of a spectator and the explanation of how the magic effect is achieved. It is simple and easy to follow with multiple angles so that you will learn it in the best way possible!

there is no prior knowledge required! Everything you learn will be used to perform the effects I’m teaching. There is no age restriction whatsoever. Everyone can join this class even if your 10 or 80 years old.

I hope you will enjoy this class and start performing these effects!

Royal Road To Card Magic:

1. Introduction : to me, there's nothing more joyful and fulfilling than to have the ability to walk up to anybody everywhere in the world and put them in the state of wonder where everything is possible. And the best part is one. Hi, everybody. My name is Tim, and I invite you to join the magical experience. I'm so excited to welcome you to my first Scotia class, where you will learn basic sleight of hand techniques to perform impossible magic, Feet said. Just making things disappear, appear and even transform. I have prepared five effects that are simple, easy to learn and, most of all, fun to perform and practice. I've been performing magic for almost 10 years now, performing everywhere. Add restaurants, cafes, even nightclubs for my family, friends and complete strangers. In my class project, you re create a performance of one of the five effects that I will teach you. You can make up your own presentation and your own moves. The only requirement is that you would show it to at least one person. You can also perform it in front of the camera and then upload it to school share. I will give you tips and guidelines along the way, so you can master the effect and amazed everyone with it. Now take note that there's no prior knowledge required. Everyone conduce these things. You just need a couple of things that you mostly have laying around in your house. That's great. Medic of carts, some coins and let's get started. 2. Necessary Tools: before you can practices performed these effects. You need a couple of things. I have a deck of cards with me here. That's bicycle brand. You don't need to use bicycle brands, but those cards are the best ones for performing magic tricks. And just very cheap. $2 or $3 I think, uh, but if you don't have, um, just use any cars that you have in your drawer. You need a couple of coins. Three coins is fine or two coins is fine. I have American half dollars. The general rule is when you get the coins, the bigger the better. But just use any currency for practice. And if you want to practice it first, the bigger coins always better, then a lighter. I just have a lighter with a warning sign because I need the warning sign for a specific effect that I will teach you. So get one of those and some threat, just some white threat we needed for the Gypsy threat effect. And then I have just some goodies. That's just a pin. You don't really need that, but that's also required for one effect. But you don't have to use a pin. You can also use a coin from a different country or different kinds of currency. It just has to look different from the constant you're using at first. And then just a pen. Yeah, that's it. 3. Basic Card Handling: Now let's begin with basic card handling. I will show you a few ways, so to hold the cards, how to cut the cards and how to shuffle the cards So you have a basic understanding of how to handle deck of playing cards. I have a 52 cards here, and I hold the cards in what's called the deal, a script that's the most natural and most often use script that we use all the time. Ah, you have the first finger at the top. Short side, the thumb on the right side on the right length side and the other fingers resting on the left side. I'm left handed. That's why I hold the cards in my right hand. If you're right handed, you probably hold the cards in your left hand. So just Merrill, my actions and thing left when I say right, so you hold the cards not too firmly Now we should be a simple table cut if you cut the cards. That's what's called a single table cut like this. You take those two fingers, the middle finger and thumb, break off about half of the cards and just laid them next to you and take the rest. Put them on top. You need that for the first effect because there's a lot of cutting action. So the actions this cut and complete just like that. Now the first shuffle you will learn. It's the overhand shuffle, and you have the cards in the U. S. Grip become with the left hand. Take it, turn it 45 degrees clockwise. Then you have it between those fingers between the middle finger, the thumb and the first finger, and then this thumb it takes 10 or 15 cars off and shuffles off the rest with every take you, the thumb pushes off 10 or 15 cards like this. 4. Basic Card Principle: The Key Card: the first car principle that you will learn is called the key card. The key card is the card that you will peak at the bottom off the deck that the spectator isn't aware off. So when he shuffled the cards, you give him the currents at first, then shall the cart. And when he's finished, it gives you the cards back in a messy condition. So you need to square the deck up. That's your motivation for doing the motion, and in that motion you peak the card, so the deck is messy. You take it and mechanics grip or dealers grip. Then you come with those two fingers with the middle finger and thumb and square the short sight. Then you take the cards from at the short side, turn it and then square the length side. And in that action, you look at the card. I'm looking. I'm peaking the seven of clubs right now, so I know the seven of clubs I need to remember. The seven of clubs just repeated in your mind the seven off seven of clubs, because that's the key card that the spectator were put his cart. It's like the card next to so you know, the selection off the spectator. That's the key card principle 5. Card Effect: The Pulse Trick: Welcome back. I will demonstrate the first effect. The revealing pulse. Now I have a friend of mine and joining me. Hi. Hi. Can you please take the deck of cards, shuffle the deck of cards, Take a look at them, see if they're normal, and I will try to read your body language. Science doesn't make sense right now. I know. Perfect. Andi, can you take out any card that you want from the deck? Show it to the camera. I won't look and then hold it against your heart, so I can't see. Okay. Perfect. Now. And if you put the car on the top now I know where the card is. But if she cuts the cards, can you please cut the cards in the middle anywhere and complete the cut? I don't know where your card is, right? Well, it's about in the middle, but it gets harder if you cut one more time. It gets even harder. And if we cut like this, complete the cut in any way you want. It's almost impossible for me to know where the car is. Yes, but you will tell me what your card is with your body. with your body language. Can you give me the right hand? I will take your pulse and just concentrate on your card. Don't give anything away, but I will try to read. You're pulls. I think it's somewhere here. It's none of those cards. Do this again. Um, you know what's this? Direct? Uh, okay. A couple of cards left, for instance. I think you're you're thinking of this car, right? Yeah, right. Ace of clubs. 6. Explanation: The Pulse Trick: welcome. Come back now Let's take a look at the explanation of how I did it. You learned to kick out principle and have used the keycard principle in this effect and shuffled the deck of cards and she could shuffle and I don't have to do anything. I just have to wait until she's finished. And then we will do the square up action like this. The cards are messy. I would spread the tick up and pick the card. I'm picking the two of Speight's so I think, two of spades, two of spades to a space. Then I spent the cars, but you can just that would take any card. Andi she takes it out, holds it against her heart. I'm looking away and I still think to have space to a space. I don't know what card she she picked, but that's not important. I just know that two of space at the bottom and then I say to her, If you put the deck of if you put the card on top, I know whether Cardiss so she puts the card on top, and I know where the card is. But if she cuts now, your key card that you remember the two of spades. It's the car that is below her selection. Even if she cuts one more time or if she cuts like this, that doesn't change anything. You still know where the card is or way are. Key card is. And if you spent the dick now like this now I'm looking for the two of spades, and I see are the two of spades is there in the spread and the card right next to it. So on the right is her card. In this case, the seven of hearts, right? Wasn't a seven. I didn't get the seven of hearts. And then the rest is just presentation. I just take her car, take a post. I'm just looking for the two of spades and I say, I'm reading your body language. Let me let me see. And then I just eliminated few cards and say, Oh, you put me in this direction. Are you put me in this direction and that's kind of the presentation. You can make up your own presentation, but that's what I chose to use on. Then, at the end, I just dramatically revealed the card that she picked the seven of hearts by using her pulse, and that's all there is to it. 7. Coin Sleight 1) Finger Palm: basic coin handling. Now I will teach you three moves or three consume mints and one fake put that you will learn and use in the next two coin effects. Now the first move is what's called the finger palm. That's a method to conceal a coin between your fingers so it looks like you don't have a coin hidden in your hand. You have it here between the second finger and third finger, and you have it in the lower third, off the finger, the finger and the only thing to do is curled those two fingers in so the coin will stay put and you can move freely in that looks like you don't have anything in your hands. You can also make a gesture like this. That's to show the spectator that there's nothing here, so he's not going to think that you have something considered there just like that, like that. Mirror the two fingers so they look natural. And again, that's the position off the fingers and you call just slightly. Cut it in and then you have the coin concealed. That's what's called the finger, Paul 8. Coin Sleight 2) Tenkai Pinch: now the next consumer that you will learn. It's called the tank I pinch or the gosh man Pinch. Looks like this. The hand looks empty. Get I have a coin hidden. It's a Naqi move, but you will get used to do you just have to practice. Uh, the hardest part is getting it into the position between the pinky and uh, third finger. You hold the corn like this between the second finger and third finger and thumb, and then move the coin back and you have to make this kind of gesture with your hand. And when the corn is in this position, you just take the pinky and the pink curls in tics, the coin or takes a part of the coin. And now it is clipped between the third finger and the pinky like this. So again, the movement, this and then you just open the hand. But now it looks empty. You have to keep the hand to you a little bit anger towards you. So the spectator can't see like a little flash off the coin there. But then you have to coin a disposition, and the move to make it appear is like a reversal of every action. So you just close your fist like that and then open your hand and then the coin appears. You have to practice this. That's it's a little bit more difficult, but you have the coin in tank. I pinch like this and then you turn and close the fist like this. So you have the coin there, and then the next move. This is relied on by gravity. You have to move the hand up like this and you have to let go off the coin so it lands in your poem. You have to try it. You don't have to use it for the first magic fact. You can also make it appear in any other way. But just try it and learn it. And it's a very visual move because you have an empty and then you go like this. And then just the coin just suddenly appears. Yeah, and that's the tank I pitch 9. Coin Sleight 3) Retention Vanish: now reverted to the retention, banish or attention of vision vanish. It's a fake put technique where you're supposed to take a corn, put it in your hand, but it's not there. It's empty, and I will teach you a basic rate to do. The retention of vision vanish. There are hundreds of waste. Do it and that's just a a simpler method. You take the coin between the second finger and thumb, and you put it in your hand. Or supposedly put it in your hand and that action you start closing the fingers off the right hand, like this finger by finger. And when you come to the third finger when the coin is not visible anymore, that's when you do this action, this hand just do. Does this action just pulled away like this? And it looks like, do it like that. It looks like you put the coin in, but it's not there because you also try to let the corn catch some light so it looks better like this if you move it and then it looks like you put it, then blow underwent anything and make advantage 10. Coin Effect 1: Appear & Travel: Okay. This next effect is called Human to travel. And I'm a coin here. Can you take it in your left hand? But the thing is, we need to corn. So I'm just gonna make one appear. I will take it and change places with it. The coins will change places. OK, So like that I did it. And now they will change back. Did it again. You're not impressed, right? The hard part is making disappear and appear in your hand. 11. Explanation: Appear & Travel: Now I'm going to explain that appear and travel effect. You start with one coin and 10 chi pinch like this and the other coin rests in your hand there or there. It doesn't matter. So the hand looks like you have a coin in your hand, nothing more. But it just secretly have the coin and tank. I pinch you go to your spectator and say I'm gonna perform a magic trick for you. I have a corn here. Can you put the corner your hand? But then you say, Oh, I need to coins. And then you do the action of making the coin from tank a pinch appear like this. But you don't have to use it if you If you're practicing practicing it and you find that you can't get it to work, just start off with two coins and to say I'm going to give to give one coin to you. I'm gonna keep one coin. Then just do the fake put on banish. But that's the way. If you know the tank, I pentru If you mastered it, do it like this. Give her the coin and then you make the coin appear with the tank pinch like this. And now you do the fake put you tell her I'm gonna take this coin and I'm gonna make the two coins change places with each other. Now, I have the coin and finger palm right now because I did the retention vanish that you just learned. And I put my hand on top of her hand. But if I would do it like this, it would fall or it would make a sound. So I put the thumb on top of the corn so I can straighten out my fingers and go like this. And then I would say the coins would change places just like that, but nothing happened. But then you say, Okay, I'm gonna make them change back again. She's not impressed. And then you reveal that the corn has vanished. But in that moment, exactly in that moment you put your thumb off so the corn can drop and it makes it sound like this. Then she knows the effect happened. And in that moment you reveal that the fist is empty. So again you have it like this and magic the corn appeared. And that's the appear and travel effect 12. Coin Effect 2: Transformation: Now, this next effect is called transformation. And do you like my button? Yeah, yeah, yeah. You want Take a look at it. Off course. Take it. Wow. It's a smiley face now. And if you could change that button into anything that you want to what would be your choice? Money. Money? Yeah. Let's do it. Blow Just like that. Now we have. 13. Explanation: Transformation: Okay, Now let's take a look at transformation and explain it to you. The preparation is you have the coin and finger Paul, and you have a button or something that looks or that a sit in similar shape of a coin but has different attributes. I also have another coin like Chinese corn. You can use that or use a smaller coin because when it changes the differences, it's very, very appealing. So use anything you can on using his D card or I don't know. But the preparation is this. The finger palm, the cook coined the finger palm. I'm taking the button and giving it to her so she can examine it. Take a look at it, and then she gives the corn back to me and ask her if you could change this coin into anything, what would it be? And this is the action that's like the conditioning, the spectator that you do this movement, taking this button and throwing it in your hand because after that, after a few times, after just talking to her and saying what would you change it into money? Then you do the move, and the move is this the movie is called the Bobo Switch, and you take the button, and when you're throwing it, you straighten the fingers off the left hand that has the coin in it. So you basically push the button in with your first finger and the thumb, push it in and let the coin fall into the sand and immediately closing the fist. So if she doesn't see the change, but the action is this to do with this two or three times, and then in that action of throwing it again, push that in, push the button in with your first finger and thumb and straighten out the second finger and third fingers so the coin can fall into the fist, close it, and then this hand takes the button into finger palm that then she says, hopefully should. She says nothing. Hopefully she says money, but if she says something else, I don't know what other people would change that into. But if she says something else, then you say, you know what I would want to change it into? I would would want to change it into money itself. You can always use your kind of presentation for that or your wish. I would wish for money that's work for money from the coin or the button changes into the cornea. That's it. That's the effect called transformation, and then you can leave and take the money. 14. Effect: The Changing Lighter: Now let's get into the next effect called the Changing Lighter. I have a lighter here with a warning sign. Keep away from Children. The funny thing is, if you take the sign right there, you can make it disappear just like that. Now it's gone from both sides, but you can also just take it again. Now it appears again, and now it's gone. Just a fun little effect. 15. Explanation: The Changing Lighter: So this is the explanation. He will learn what's called the paddle move paddle move is basically just this turning the lighter 90 Greece. But you will do it in the motion of showing both sides. And that's what covers this small action, the small extremist covered by the large action off the wrist turning. That's a basic principle in magic that the larger motion covers the small emotion. So it's invisible because if you look at at the lighter like this and I do this, it looks like I'm just showing both sides to you, right? But I'm sure you the same side, and you start off with the lighter and explaining that is a warning sign on it. Keep away from Children and you just show it casually on this side and then on the other side with the power move. Now, the timing is crucial. Here, you have to start here again. This is the movement, and while you're turning, you start moving. That's the slowed down action. While you start to turn your wrist, the some will roll the lighter forward like that. So it looks like you're showing two sides because the breast is turning but you're showing the same side. And when you doing it, test it looks like this. That's the warning sign. And the action to make it disappear is to take the other hand. And in this fast motion of turning it like a clock like clockwise, she turned with your thumb like this with this thumb. In that case, So you have it here. And if you want to make it disappear, you're just you can also use this thumb. Doesn't matter. You can use this time to do the turning All of this thumb or both. They help each other, and then you just make it disappeared. That's what that was passed in. Slow motion again like this and fast. And now it's gone. Now you sure the sights again? You do the pattern. Move again. So this size it's gone there from there, and it's going from there, and then you can make it appear again. You could do this as many times as you want. Yeah, that's it. That's the changing light 16. Effect: The Gypsy Thread: Now, this is one of my personal favorite effects. It's called the Gypsy Threat. You need nothing more than a piece of bread. Just like that. Gonna break it off. I hope you can hear that. Um, and I'm gonna break it into a few individuals pieces this, and I'm gonna take them just like that and roll them into a little ball. Can you see that? Now I'm gonna take it just like that. The ball attached now just blow timeouts restored again. 17. Explanation: The Gypsy Thread: Now this is the explanation for the gypsy thread. You need a white thread or red threat rolled onto the tube onto YouTube because the tube will hide your secret. The preparation you have to do before performing the effect it's taking about the same length that you were cut off in the effect you will take it, and at the end, at the tube, he will roll it up. You will wrote it into a small little ball just like this, and this small little ball is concealed behind the tube. So you have this little ball and that is concealed just here behind the tube. Nobody sees that you could leave that in your pocket and just take it out and then perform . You can come out like this and show it or just leave it somewhere there where the Jew pieds the small little bowl. And when you're performing, you take the threat there like this and then cut off about the same length that you rolled up like this. What say break it off and then you will cut them with your fingers. Or you can use lighter or you can use. If someone has a scissor. You can use that. Uh, you will cut it into small pieces, just like I did in the performance. And when you have those pieces, you take them. This piece with the with the ball you will keep in your hand in your left hand, and then you rolled up those pieces into a little ball. Now this is the situation that you're in. You have the thread with the ball concealed between the thumb and the first finger and cut pieces that also rolled up into a ball. On the other hand, now you will transfer this ball into the hand. Weather threat is show it like this, and now you change hands to change from the left and to the right hand. And then this moment you will conceal the ball with the cut pieces and bring the other other ball interview that's already on the threat. So they see the ball every single time, Um, and then you will take with them with the with the left hand. You will take the one end off the thread with the other hand. You will take the other end so the ball is still concealed. But it's not consumed in the right hand, and then everything's first. You just need toe, pull them apart, and that's the effect, and now it's restored again. You can give it to the spectator, just get rid of the peace to throw the way. 18. Book Recommendations: Now what I've shown you is just the beginning. Off the out of magic. There's a lot more to discover, and if you have any questions or want to learn more things, I will be uploading other classes concerning other effects or other topics such as coins, cards and other everyday objects that will go deeper into the subject, off card effects or coin effects. I have two books that I would recommend if you're a beginner. The 1st 1 is the Royal Road to Card Magic. That's Ah, very good Beginners book. If you want to dive deeper into the subject off card magic that really everything is in here, from transformations to trans positions and every single effect you can think off and the necessary moves that will make it happen, you will learn many shuffles, the double lift that I will also cover in my next class. And it's just a really good card. Magic book to start. If you want to focus on one topic, if you want a more general knowledge off performing with cards, coins, everyday objects, paper oh, number magic, then I would recommend the Magic book by having the rain one of my first books. I really enjoy that. There are very, very good effects I used to the state they still use. And there's also measured with everything with with bowls with with cards, with coins, even a mental magic that will also be covering in my next class, like mind reading effects, predicting the future and so on. So if you have any questions regarding the specific topic that you want to dive deeper into , just asked me just sent me a message, and I will. I recommend something for you that you can buy in those, By the way, those those two books can be can be bored really cheap on Amazon. I think I will. I will just leave the the affiliate links from Amazon below, so you can find them very easily. And they're just I mean, royal voter card magic is, I think, nine bucks 10 bucks on the same with this one. That's an older version, but it's been reprinted like a couple of times, so you shouldn't have any problems. But yeah, that's my That would be my book recommendations for you. If you're starting out in Magic 19. Conclusion: So that's it. Five effects that are easy to perform and fund to practice now. For my class project, please created performance of one of the five effects that you learned. You can make up your own presentation and change it. However you want making your own. That's the most important thing you can from yourself and from the Webcam or a short story in person. Show to a friend of yours or to your family and from yourself while doing it. It would be amazing if you could share your performance with us. I could take a look at it and give you tips so you can master the effect and everyone else gets to enjoy the performance you created. Be sure to check up my upcoming school check facets that will dive deeper into the topics, off card handling and coin handling with advanced effects. See you next time
