About This Class


This class is project-based and interactive. You're invited to post your questions, comments, and work in progress, at absolutely every step.  

Whether you're a beginner or an advanced watercolorist, you can jump in and enjoy this class.  I provide printables to trace and step-by-step instruction for the beginner  The advanced artist will find inspiration to add their own style to.     

In this class we will cover and apply the following:

  • Art supplies I recommend, including paint brands, paper, and brush types.
  • Centering, and sketching your world
  • Wet on Wet watercolor techniques to create the seas
  • Color mixing on paper to create blended color effects upon the seas
  • Using sea salt to create blooms, suggesting clouds over the seas
  • Wet on dry watercolor technique for our flower and foliage practice
  • Wet on dry watercolor technique to fill the continents with blooms and foliage
  • Bonus Lessons creating your own watercolor "ink" to use with a dip pen, matching artwork
  • Bonus Lessons featuring modern calligraphy to add sentiments to your artwork

Our goal is to create a fun and whimsical world where you will enjoy some creative play with watercolors. I hope you learn a few things along the way.  And I hope this class brings you joy as it has for me!

Supplies List:

  • HB lead pencil 
  • Art Eraser and/or kneaded eraser
  •  Prima Marketing "Tropicals" palette, or....
  • Various professional or student grade watercolors in vibrant floral colors, greens, turquoises
  • Arches 140# Cotton Watercolor paper, 9" x 12"
  • #1 Rigger brush (small details)
  • #2 Round watercolor brush (small details)
  • #6 Round watercolor brush (larger fills/washes)
  • Mixing Palette or white plate
  • Water x 2 (one for rinsing brush, one for clean water)
  • Paper towels
  • Various flowers/wildflowers picked to inspire and make you happy!

For our bonus lessons, you will need the following supplies:

  • Tiny container for mixing 'watercolor ink' (bottle cap will do!)
  • Calligraphy dip pen (Brause "Blue Pumpkin #361 and straight holder is what I used)
