Transcripts

1. Introduction: Do you want to become a full-time transcriptionists? And this is a transcription math class. You're complete guide to transcripts nist. And I don't say that lightly because if you follow all the steps in this course, by the end of it, you will lend your first job as a transcript snus. Hi, my name is gone and I've been a full-time transcriptionists for over four years now. And over the years I've worked with counties transcription communism. And I genuinely understand the struggle that you're going through right now, which is why I created this course. It's the only class you will need to learn how to work with. Audio players. Deal with hard to hear audio. Perfect resume, and even past transcripts in exams, which is a part that most people struggle with. And that's why in this course, I'll take you along as I attempt if real transcription exempt from an actual company and get hired. This way you can understand my thought process and even pick awesome, That trick's these communist world throughout you to read out potential applicants will call with the entire transcription process from downloading the audio file, transcribing the audio file, looking for errors and spelling mistakes, and even submitting your files to your clients. It doesn't matter if you're a slow typer, aren't fluent in English or has no past experience. By the end of this course, you will be working as a full-time transcriptionists. That's because I won't just teach you the skills required to become one. But I will also includes many practical assignments throughout the course. So you can put your skills to practice, enroll now, tried out and how upon transcribing from the comfort of your own home. 2. Fastest Way to Transcribe Audio!!: Okay, Before we dive too much into the chorus and get into the nitty-gritty. I just want to make this quick little video giving you a nice solid tip. For those of you who are queued, slow tapers can't really type very fast because the film being completely honest, when it comes to transcription, a really key component of that is having a solid understanding of English who are. There'll be grammar, punctuation, spelling. And alongside that, you also need a very fast typing speed. Now if you don't have to fast typing speed or you can love me, of course we'll work on it and improve it. Dies should definitely be a must. But alongside that, there's also something else that you can do that allowed you to transcribe on your much faster. And that would be the workplace speech note. So if I go ahead and go on to Google and type in peak notes and open up this first-level inquiry here. So speech nor too dark TO would this website allows you to do is it translates audio into text. So if you're transcribing an audio file where you can do is simply recorded through this website, your new automatically translated into text. Now, if I'm being completely honest, it's not entirely accurate. I would give it an accuracy of 85 to 90 percent accuracy. And that I feel should be more than enough in the sense that it gets a majority of the work done. And then you have to just go in and fix our mistakes here and there. Whether it be grammar mistakes or misheard words or misspelled word, maybe the software heard one word when in actual ideal or something else. So the way it works is you simply go ahead and click this button right here. And it'll go ahead and start listening to an audio. And it will transcribe that into text. And all you have to do is go ahead and rerun it and fixed minor mistakes here and there. So that way you're not too dependent on your typing speed. Saw those go ahead and begin, maybe give an example. So let's say, Hi, my name is Mark, and I love to build houses. Okay. Those completely random and you can see it transcribed it perfectly. I mean, of course the only thing that immersed I mean, this it'll miss every time. It doesn't put in commas periods or question marks or any of that sort. So for this, maybe you would want to put a comma here. And if this is the end of the sentence, you can go ahead and put period. I mean, actually shut down. And someone else or you can do is let's say your thing, the audio and you want to insert appeared. All you can do is see period. And it'll automatically insert this question mark answered a question mark, colon semicolon, and so on. So let's give that a try as well. So let's see. I am move very slow typer. And that's why I love using speech notes, period. Okay. Enter CIM of various slow typer, see any mismatch. So, and that's why I love using speech, not just going to be one word. And I said period, So inserted appeared. Let's say am I cool? Question mark. And perfect. See it transcribed it perfectly even got the capitalisation of the eye and the capital E as well. So it's fairly accurate. And now at this point you may be wondering, of course it's going to be accurate when it comes to your own voice. But when it comes to transcribing the actual audio, it may not be as accurate because they don't know, they don't talk as clearly. Of course, when I'm speaking, I will try to enunciate every word as clearly as possible. But when it comes to transcription, that's not always the case. So let's give that a go as well and see how accurate it is. So right now I have this YouTube video opened up and I'm going to go ahead and play this in justice. Can so go ahead and turn on the mic. Okay, perfect. So you can see as transcribed audio and it's pretty accurate. Let's see. Sorry. It's not every day you get to review ISPs. Put leaves. There should be a comma there. But I'm happy to see that star link to our link has been my only internet provider for the past month. And I have lots and lots of 0. And I have lots of good things to say, but still some bad at the same time. So almost. So I am less than I remember. He said fan. I'm going to try to be honest and beef and be fair about it and tell you exactly where they're not. Whether or not it's worth whether or not and whether or not it right for you. And that you can always go ahead and replay it, knows exactly where they're not. Okay. Perfect. There you go home. We transcribed it and you can tell it's fairly quick. I mean, we transcribed 19 seconds of audio in 3040 seconds, so it's fairly quick and of course we're in now I'm trying to explain it to you. So dyads a bit of a time to it. But if you're doing it yourself, you can go ahead and play the entire audio. And when you want to check where you have to do is simply go ahead and open up the audio file, go to the back and play. And that's exactly what you want to do. So play it. And if you wanna go ahead and make a correction, you can go ahead and pause the audio following quote from deer. Now, we do have a YouTube video playing, but dwelled the course we will be using Express Scribe, which is a software that is dedicated solely for transcription. And with that, this specific shortcuts that you can set on your keyboard, we're not having to classy, go ahead and open up the program play and pause. But of course this is just for demonstration purposes. And so, yeah, that said, if you're looking to transcribe audio as fast as possible, this is something that you can definitely give it a try, but ultimately the best and most effective way to improve your typing speed, improve your grammar, punctuation, spelling, and so on and so forth. And that's what this entire course is about. I will be diving deeper into the specific programs, websites you can apply for, how to create the best resume and how to pass these transcription exams. So that's really the core content and that's where you want to excel at. But this is just a cherry on top. So with that being said, let's go ahead and dive into transcription. And I'll take you step-by-step on getting your first job as it transcriptionists. 3. Audio Player: In the last lecture, I mentioned how audio players are a must if you want to become an independent transcriptionists and that I recommend using Express grown. In this lecture, we're going to be downloading Express Scribe, specifically the free version. All of you can get started transcribing without having to pay later on, I recommend using the basic paid version, which cost around 4999. So let's hop onto the computer and begin downloading express grant. Once you are on your computer, go ahead and go on to Google. And from here you want to go ahead and type in Express, Scribe, and go ahead and click Enter. And I'll leave a link to this website in the resource tab of this lecture. But if not, you can go ahead and follow along. So once you click Enter, go ahead and click on this first link right here. So it should be n-th dot com dot edu forward slash scribe. And we want go ahead and click that. And this is the website where we're going to be downloading Express Scribe. Since I M on a Mac, it's insisting that I do download the Mac version. And if you're on a PC, it should be a very similar process. Instead of download Mac, it'll automatically say download PC. So I'm going to go ahead and select download or here. So once downloaded, you can go ahead and open up the file for me. It's on the bottom left-hand corner. It's downloading over here. And you're not able to do this because I have been recorded are part of the screen. But you can easily go ahead and open it up. And once it pops up right here, let me go ahead and move it here and double-click. And it's going to ask you to agree or disagree. So we're going go ahead and agree. Now it's opening up Express Scribe. And this particular process applies to mark where you have to go ahead and select the icon and place it on the application. Okay, and to launch Express Scribe, you want go to your launchpad, select Express Scribe. And, and now from here the process should be very similar on a PC as well. Where's the Express scribes now I've downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it and we're gonna go ahead and select Open. Continue. Okay. Okay. Perfect. Annual and go ahead and say Okay to data as well. Yes. Okay, now that we have Express Scribe installed, in the next lecture, I'm going to go ahead and just quickly walk through Express Scribe. And by opening up the different options, how you can load audio, play, pause, adjust the speed, and basically how you can use this to transcribe audio. And there's also a few hidden tips and tricks that I will also mentioned in that lecture. So be sure to watch it. Because although it just looks very simple, I mean, you can just load the software from your played the audio, pause it. And there are some tricks that you do need to know to make your life much easier. Again, download the free version of Express Scribe. And once you're accustomed to it, you can go ahead and pay for the paid version. But for now the free version should be just fine. As I want you guys to begin transcribing. 4. Do Not Skip This Section: This section is by far the most important one in this course. Because here I'll show you how the actual transcription gets done, including using an audio player, transcribing an audio file, proofreading transcription. And also at the end of this section, I've also included an assignment that I want you to complete. This way, you're actually applying the knowledge that is being taught. So go to this section multiple times if you want. You can really nail the entire transcription process. 5. Clean vs Full Verbatim: In this lecture, I'll be breaking down the differences between clean and full verbatim. Because when you're transcribing, it's essential that you know which one is which. Now, there are many different ways of saying the same thing. Whether it be strict, verbatim, full verbatim, clean, standard, and a few more ways. Now, did really only two main types, clean and full verbatim. So let's go ahead and talk about the differences between the 2. First, let's begin with clean verbatim. So clean verbatim aims to clean up the audio by removing unnecessary words, starters and fill their speech. So let's say someone says, let's go to the mall to grab some, some jewelry. You would get rid of all the OMS and nose because they add no value to what is being said. This can be applied to words as well. So someone says, I'm going to stop, stop by my friend's house after school. You would get rid of the word stop and the all right before school. Because again, that adds no value to what is being said. But this can sometimes be tricky because if I say, I'm really, really hungry right now, you wouldn't get rid of this second really, because that emphasizes how hungry I am, and therefore it adds value. And you also want to get rid of non-speech words like coughing, sneezing, and throat sklearn. So song or like you wouldn't add that to the transcription because that again also doesn't add any value to this sentence. Now let's talk about full verbatim. And to read clear, you're less likely to do full verbatim because this is more applicable for transcribing, let's say a police interrogation, interviews for a research study, or even preparing the legal documents. So depending on who you're working for, you may exclusively be doing full verbatim. So what is full verbatim? Well, it's essentially the exact opposite of clean verbena. So Dean includes every word that is spoken in the audio file. This means that you would include all the Ohm's laws and even the repeated words, regardless of whether or not it adds value. So everything you hear, you must transcribe. Now which one's easier? Well, that's just a personal preference. Some like full verbatim because you don't have to think about what you want to remove or what you want to add while others prefer clean verbatim. Because that way you're not constantly replaying the audio to just make sure that you have every single arm and stutter. 6. The Complete Transcription Process: When it comes to transcription, It's best to Yup, a step-by-step process put in place so that when you're transcribing audio, you're not stressing over forgetting things like spellcheck or proofreading. This also in true that you're able to output quality work each and every single time. Because the last thing you want is for your transcription to have misspelled words or incorrect labels for your speakers. So here's a general breakdown of transcribing an audio file. First, you download the audio file sent from the client and then you upload it onto your audio player, which in our case would be Express Scribe. From there, you go on ahead and do the actual transcription. And this depth should by far take the longest. Because of course, here's where you're doing the actual transcription. Once complete, you'll want to run a quick spellcheck because when you're transcribing audio, sometimes it's hard to keep up with the audio fall. And so when you're trying to type as fast as you can, it's almost inevitable that you will make a typo. Once you have gone all the typos out the way from here, I recommend that you read, played the audio and look for any errors into transcription and obviously correct those along the way. You want to keep replaying the audio until you get through it without having to pause and fix something. For me is usually takes around two tries. And then for you it could be more or less. It really depends on how experienced you are. After this. I run one last spell checked just to be sure because the last thing I want is for my client to find spelling mistakes because that would not only be embarrassing, but I may even lose his client for future transcriptions. And the chances of thing recommending me also decreases. So it never hurts to run one last spellcheck. Once complete, you saved the audio with the file name according to your clients or your company's guidelines. And then submit the document and you're done. Keep in mind that this is just a basic outline for transcription. And the process may vary depending on your specific needs and your company's needs. So for example, if you're working for transcribed me, then you don't need to download the audio, nor do you need to load it onto an audio player, because all of that is done through the website and you simply just hopped in, transcribe the audio and then hit Submit. So just make adjustments according to your specific companies guidelines. 7. Transcribing Clean and Full Verbatim: In this lecture, we're going to be transcribing audio file with clean and full verbatim. Now I recorded this RD myself and have included lots of odd sounds just to make it a bit more difficult. So you can get the best practice. So sorry in advance if it sounds a bit unnatural. So I'm going to go ahead and play the audio file right now. And I want you to transcribe it using full verbatim. So in other words, include everything that you hear. And if you can go ahead and transcribe the actual audio, Wallace playing, if now you can always go ahead and rerun it and make sure that you've got every single arm. So let me go ahead and played yesterday. We know, I mean, last Friday, mean DB went to the bar to, you know, grab grab a drink. It was really, really fun. We had a blast. Okay, so you can go ahead and pause the video and transcribing using full verbatim. Once you're done, resume the video, okay, and this is how you should have transcribed the audio in full verbatim. And I'm going to go ahead and play the audio alongside it so you can go ahead and follow along. Yesterday. We know, I mean, last Friday, mean DB went to the bar too, you know, you know, grab grab a drink. It was really, really fun. We had a blast. Now keep in mind that not all transcription companies want you to transcribe pool verbatim the exact same way. So may want you to leave out to colleagues and others may want you to include a false stores. So it just really depends on the specific communist guidelines. Now I want you to transcribe the same audio in thin verbatim. So for this, you just want to get rid of any unnecessary sounds or words that don't add any value to what is being said. Yesterday. We know, I mean, last Friday, mean DB went to the bar. No. You know, grab grab a drink. Really, really fine. We had a blast. If you got this correct, then congrats. If not, don't worry, you just need a bit of practice. And keep in mind, you always want to fall the specific company guidelines and the tests that we have right in front of you. It's just a general outline for clean verbatim. 8. CASE STUDY Transcribing Live Audio File: In this lecture, we're going to be transcribing an audio file live. So I'm going go ahead and open up my Word document and also have my express CREB open up. Right now It's mini player. So let's go ahead and expand that. And the father, we will be transcribing this one right here. And it's essentially a tech podcast and we won't be doing the entire thing. I'm just going to do probably a couple minutes and also speed it up so that you're not just sitting through it being bored. So go ahead and transcribe this audio file and for a couple minutes. And the goal is just to do it as fast as they can. And I don't want to be stopping too much because I will make mistakes, but I just want transcribe it. And in the next lecture wouldn't go ahead and fix up the mistakes, whether it be spelling mistakes, grammar mistakes, or maybe I forgot to type in a word or so. So the goal is to be as fast as they can. And as far as the speed goes, I'm going to set it at 50%. Now we don't have to always pause it. Repeated, positive repeated. Because when I have my speeds that are 50 percent, I feel like that's you could say Goldilocks zone where Mahajan to start to mu times to type it out. And at the same time it's fast enough where I'm able to transcribe the audio file. So I'm going to keep our 50 percent and as you're watching it, it will be sped up to a 100 percent. So you can go ahead and hear the audio file at regular speed. And also so I don't bore you too much with the audio file. So let me go ahead and get started. And let's go ahead and open up the escrow mini. And let me go ahead and start transcribing. Hey, listen to podcast. It's just the heat and the date. This is the ligands and the related because this is the OG through this. Remember this. No. Remember this. No, I don't remember this. I try not to remember that everyone's talking about force myself to remember that everyone's foil out, force myself to listen to one of the first few episodes. Man, I am so cringe at why does anyone listen to them? And listen to this? Back when we had like subjects? Yeah. Yep. So I'm true, Let's talk about HDMI to 0.1. We're interesting topic for the beginning of the whole tech podcast. Well, you but I'll take five guests. Well, you can't say it's not memorable because we keep referencing that comes to like first subjects that was one that stood out to us. I guess. Not one we use every day. Not one we use every day, but something we remembered. So yeah. Well, you know what's going to be sailing out in my memory. Well, you know what's going to be sailing out in my memory from today? What's that? Tomorrow. Thursday. Thursday of last week. So tons of things could have changed. Tons of things could have changed. Apple could potentially announced things last minute like that, or is it just not their style or Apple? Apple's YouTube channel just went live with the event. No one else. Youtube channel just went live with the event. No announcements, No nothing. I've seen some people say they would like that just because there wouldn't be any warning and it would just be so Southern and I'm there wouldn't be any warning and it would just be so sudden and everyone would be really excited. But I wouldn't like that because I personally like it when Apple announces events pretty advanced because then we can play it. We can plan around it a bit better. Okay? Okay, now that we're done, as you can see, there's tons of mistakes and this here there, I mean, I'm sure I've forgotten a few words here and there. And also something that you want to keep in mind. You can see that I don't have any labels for the speakers. And that's because there's only two speakers. And every time the speaker change, I would just hit Enter and start typing on new lines. So I know this first one is Drew, and it just goes back and forth. So it drew Nick, drew Nick, dru Nick, drew Nick. So again, I did that so I could just transcribe as fast as I can. And Lex lecture, we're going to go ahead and fix up all the mistakes, replay the video and see if we're forgetting some words in here and there. And also give some labels for the speakers. See, yeah, that's it for this lecture. And I'll see you in the next one. 9. Proofreading Transcription: Oh, here. So here's the transcription from the last video. Like I said, we're going to go through the steps and fix up the audio file and look for any errors. But before I do that, let's go ahead and label all the speakers. So like I said, the first one that we drew and then it is alternate back and forth between drew Nick, drew, Nick, drew Nick. So let's go ahead and start off with Drew. Alright, can go ahead and copy control V. And it's true v to v. V. And I just want to quickly make sure so that is okay. Okay. Okay. And denied. So we want to get the ammeter bit of a mistake. So go ahead and go back. Go back. So this should have been a double-space. Okay, perfect. True. Nick. And then we drew nor Poland and Nick drew. And let's go ahead and now it would be neck and then finally drew. And now there's go ahead and enter it for Nick. And I see K. Okay. And go ahead and copy neck. Okay, I want to quickly read the scripts just to remember if this was a speaker. So I don't remember this. I try not to. Okay. Yep. That was Nick. I remember neck. Nick. Nick. I remember him saying no Apple event. Slow back. Okay. Okay. Perfect. Now that we have labeled L2 way, now let's go ahead and fix all the typo. So welcome back to the telos of non-target carbs. Take podcast, ladies and gentlemen, it's me and Nick today because this is 0 Jiu now OG No going to be a dad. This is Subaru G. So you'd think people would remember this? No, I don't remember this. I try not to remember this. Every once in a while, I'll try and force myself to listen to the first few episodes. I'm like, man, I'm so cringe. What isn't okay. Back when we are subjects and okay. Sign up for the whole deck bars. Or you can't see it's not memorable because we keep referencing that. Yep. When it comes to first subjects, Dow's one does 2D out to us, I guess. Now when we use every day in but something we remembered so okay. I think there are space dash space to normal then at least we don't thin. And it's quite an N. We're recording this Thursday of last week. So tons of things could have changed. Using Apple could condense enough these last mini like that, or is it just not there? Okay. Okay. You can imagine me up. Okay, Perfect. And this is the last one. Okay, perfect. Now that we have data out the way, let's go ahead and open up Express Scribe. Minimize this. And open up Express Scribe. And let's go ahead and play the audio. So this speed from the beginning, okay, Perfect. And put it back in mini player and just quickly run through this and see if I'm missing something. Yeah, And just for the sake of this video, Let's go ahead and decreases P2. That's called the 80 percent. 86% is fine. Go ahead and again, minimize it and played. And we just want to fall on check to see if we're missing any words. Okay, so go ahead and play. Welcome back to the tendency is to see really easy. Remember this. No, I don't remember those. I try and play that again. I want to see if you said so. Using remember this. No, I don't remember this. I try it on her. No, I don't. If you've ever seen remember this. Go ahead and get rid of that. Perfect. I don't remember this. I don't remember this. I try not to. Everyone's for low force myself to listen to one of the first few episodes. So why does anyone listening subjects? So let's talk about HDMI. Although this is clean verbatim, he's quoting something, so I'm gonna go ahead and and so on. Again, it was a break there. If you were just speaking, then I would include OM by since he's quoting himself from the past, I would include here. Yeah. True. Let's talk about the five guests. You can't say it's not memorable because we keep referencing that. First subjects, they leave out an extra space here for some reason. Okay. First subjects there was one that stood out. Comma stood out to us when we use every day, but something we've remembered. So yeah. Well, you know what's going to be sailing out in my memory from today? What said? No. Okay. See I didn't see no permanent marker. Perfect. Squat include a bit of a laugh. You don't have to include the laugh if wall if if let's say Nick was speaking and then drew laughed in between, we don't have to just stop it and include dues laugh. But if Drew as talking and he starts laughing or Nick is talking in nicht starts laughing. Then you want to include Don laugh. I don't. Okay. Let's go ahead and get rid of this. I don't know why I would have done that. Okay, perfect. Thursday of last week. So things could have changed. Apple could potentially announced things last minute like that, or is it just not their style or samples you to jail, just went live for a year. He said something twice. And obviously, since this is clean verbatim, we're not going to include that song. Go ahead and play it again and you'll know what I'm talking about. I believe it said Can you imagine like and then he took that out, set it again. But let's go ahead and play it and get all those YouTube channels is one lot. Let's go back. Jail just went live. So he said the word apple and then he said apples YouTube channel when live. So he said apple twice and again, we're going to cut that off since this is clean verbatim. So go ahead and play it again. I've seen some people say they would like that, just do like that. Okay. I want to see people say they would like that just because a warning. Okay. Perfect. Okay. Now that we've done the entire thing, Let's go ahead and go to a spell check again. Welcome to the podcast, ladies and gentleman. It's me and Nick today because this is 0 Jie crew. This is subroutine. You will remember this. I don't remember this. I just look for any spelling errors again, you want to make sure that you have none of those. Has those can be super embarrassing. Kur does anyone do is you about one subject, HMI? I mean, this could be lowercase if you wanted to. Hdmi supernova. Actually know a ski boot camps, could it does time for some super interesting. We can't say it's not memorable because maybe our other species, It's not necessary, but this really depends on your company's specific guidelines. If they want spacing or not. Okay, What's the question? Work in karma? You could add a question mark here. Not really necessary, but can you imagine if output. Okay, perfect. So we successfully transcribed the entire audio, and as you can see, it's a very quick process. It doesn't take much time. Now, of course, this was a short audio file. Only did a couple minutes, I believe it was a minute or a minute or minute, 40 seconds. So that's the entire process and it's fairly quick. And that's how you do it again, you follow the step-by-step instructions and you should have a nice clean transcription each and every single time with no errors, no mistakes, especially when you're running through it multiple times like we did right now. And you should be good to go. And depending on your company, can go ahead and upload it. Or if you're transcribing on the website, you can go ahead and submit it. So it's a very easy process. And I just went through with you live. So just transcribe it as fast as you can and then just run through it again, played the audio, look for mistakes. And you should be good to go. So yeah, that's it for this lecture. And I'll see you in the next one. 10. Dealing With Hard To Hear Audio: When it comes to transcription, it's almost inevitable that you will come across hard to hear audio because that's just part of the process. Hopefully you won't be getting this too much. But if you do, here are some of the best tips I've gathered over the years to best combat this. For starters, you want to make sure that you do hobby quality pair of headphones. This is important because more often than not, the cheap pair is either not loud enough or if it is, then the sound does get distorted, which only adds to the problem, especially if there's lots of background noise. So make sure that you are investing inequality pair of headphones. Also keep in mind that although this may be an upfront investment, you will be able to recoup the cost by simply increasing the ability to transcribe more audio at any given time. Now just having a good pair of headphones won't just magically make everything more audible. You may still come across a few audio files that may be a bit difficult to transcribe. And in that case, something that I do is I try slowing down the audio and played at around 75% its original speed. And what this does is it allows me to catch a few more inaudible. But if that doesn't work, I just do the complete opposite. Which is I play at a higher speed of 1.25. Now this may seem a bit counter-intuitive, but you may be surprised at are how helpful this can be. Now I don't know what it is. Maybe the speaker sound a bit smoother. But either way, it does work and you should definitely give it a try. Then next time you find yourself listening to an inaudible. And suppose for some reason you still can hear the audio. Then in that case, there's one last step that you can take, which is to load the audio onto a Udacity and remove the background noise. Now this is a bit of a longer process and I would advise against it if it is possible. Noontime I recommend using this is if the entire audio follow has this consistent annoying background noise. Whether it be like, let's say a fan when or even some sort of electrical noise coming from the audio equipment. If it's some noise I persist to wealthy audio, then removing it through our Udacity would definitely help. And with that, if you don't know how to do it, let me go ahead and hop onto my computer and just quickly walk you through it. In this lecture, I'll be showing you how you can get rid of background noise in your audio files. Now I have audio file opened up and it says fan noise would speaker. So there's a speaker that's talking and there's a lot of families in the background. And you can hear the audio file, but it's not the best. So obviously you how you can get rid of the fan noise so you can hear the speaker much better. Now this is something I mentioned in the last lecture. And you want to keep this as a final resort, last step, if you really can't hear the audio and you just want to be able to remove the background noise and backer noise persist throughout the entire audio file. You can go ahead and use Audacity. But again, it is the last measure. And this is basically for if, if everything else fails and you need to get this transcribed a soil with this Arafat. Them go ahead and played and you'll see that there's lots of background noise. So go ahead and click Play. And you see that. So there's tons of backer noise and it just goes on for the entire audio file. So I'm going to go ahead and try to get rid of it. So started from here and played and until the speaker comes in. And you want to go ahead and cut it right before that. So let's go from the beginning. See, okay, so you start to write out this 2 second mark and you can visually see it as well. With yard you fall. So what you wanna do is go ahead and select this area where there's no one talking. And you can also do this for the central, the audio. So let's say if you have your playing and there's no initial fan noise, I see playing it. And I believe you should be solid for this part, but let's see. You see, yeah. So there's a bit of a silent piece right here. And what we can do is go ahead and select this, or you can do the initial pieces wall just to make a bit more difficult left to the centerpiece. And we want to do is go ahead and select Effect Noise Reduction. And you want to select Get Noise Profile. So what that does is this Lexus fan noise. And when you go ahead and remove it, L removed this noise from the entire audio. Now I won't completely get rid of it, but it will do its best and it'll make your audio fall damage more clear. But it's not ideal, just completely eliminated. And in many cases it will make the audio fall just a bit more distorted. Because as it's trying to remove the fan noise, it may also remove some of the speaker's voice as well. Which again, you'll still be able to hear much better than you can right now, but it's not perfect. So go ahead and select this and let me just do it again. Effect noise reduction. Select, Get Noise Profile. And then what you want do is select the entire audio file. So you can see we have everything selected. And from here you can go ahead and select effect. Again, click noise reduction. And then as far as the settings goes, you want to go ahead and set the noise reduction at 12 decibels, sensitivity at nine, frequency at three. And for the noise, you want to make sure that you have reduced, collect and sell residue. Now this is very important. A lot of people make the mistake, they'll select this and they won't even realize it. Or Audacity will automatically selected for whatever reason, maybe disliked it in the past and it's completely forgot about it. So you want to make sure that you do have is selected, add, reduce, and go ahead and click. Okay. And there you have it, just like magic, it got rid of torrent of the backer noise. And although it did reduce this noises wall, but for the most part, and you can see the difference between the speaker and the fan noise is much greater when compared to before. Now if I play this, you'll still be able to hear the fan noise. So let's go ahead and play it. And you can see it's much quieter. If we go ahead and listen to the speakers, you can see that's much more clear. So let's go. And you can see it does sound a bit tinny, but it sounds much clearer than before. So if I were to go ahead and select this and undo. So here's what it sounded like before. If I go ahead and redo it played. So you can see that sounds a bit more tenure, but sounds much more clearer as a lot of the background noise has been removed. So yeah, that's it. That's how you remove background noise from audacity if you really can't hear the speaker. And the only way of doing so. So yeah, that's it for this lecture. And once you're done, you can go ahead and export the file. So if I click File, Export, save it as a WAV wave, where MP3, I find a wave as much clearer. But if your company only accepts MP3, you can go ahead and export it as MP3. But in many cases you don't even have to be submitted because this is your file to keep. And you really just submitting the transcription. I'll go ahead and click Export As wave and save it wherever you'd like. And go ahead and save and our export it as a wave or an MP3 file. So yeah, that's it for this lecture. And I hope this has helped and definitely give it a try for your upcoming hard to hear audios. Hopefully you don't get many of these. But in the event that it does, which it is very likely for any transcriptionists, you're going to get hard to hear. Files were just super annoying and there's lots of backer noise. In our case, the speaker we're still talking for Leiloni button. In some cases, you'll get like quiet speakers with a thick accent and backer noise. And it's just terrible. And then hopefully this can help you with that and just eliminate some of the background noise. Okay, and that about wraps it up. And if by now, if for some reason you're still not able to hear the audio, then you can always just reported to your supervisor or your client. And in many cases they can be very understanding. And from there you can go ahead and begin transcribing your next audio file. Remember to never spent too much time on an inaudible because it's a, it is inevitable and you will come across it. And as long as you're following the correct steps to resolve it, then you don't need to spend to as time stressing over it. Again, It's just part of the job. 11. Assignment For Removing Background Noise: In this next assignment is very simple. All you have to do is simply do what I did in the last lecture by getting rid of the background noise using Audacity, which again is a free software to use. After you remove the background. I want you to go ahead and transcribe the audio because you might think that you've done a great job at just getting rid of all the noise. But when it comes to actually transcribing the audio, you may find it just, you still may find it a bit difficult. And this means if either remove too much or too little. So once you successfully transcribe the audio, and then you can go ahead and check the answers in the resource tab of this lecture. And again, this is a very simple assignment, so it shouldn't take too long. 12. Improve Your Typing Speed Today!!: For transcription, it's essential that you have a fast typing speed. Ideally, you want somewhere around 60 to 70 words per minute. Now that is for above average. But that's just one of the skills that is required to become a great transcriptionists. The average taper can take anywhere between 35, 40 words per minute. Don't need to worry. You can always work on it and improve your typing speed. And as with transcription, the more you transcribe, obviously their speed watermark you start picking up. But if you want to take matters into your own hand in really improve your typing speed exponentially, then it's best that you learn the correct strategies, steadfast and one website dialogue do that is typing club. So if I go ahead and open up typing club right here, you can go ahead and get started. And what this website does is it helps you improve your typing speed by teaching the correct wish to tape. And if you're one of those people, they use two fingers to type. So it's your index fingers and occasionally you might use your middle finger, then you can create your benefit using this website because it teaches you how you can use all 10 fingers to type faster. And that's essential if we want to get anywhere past 50, 60 words per minute. So once you own your website, you continue. There's tons of lessons that you can go through, upwards of, I believe, yup, 685 lessons. Now you don't have to complete all of them. But it's, it's recommended that you do go to the initial one starting from one all the way to, I would say, were without around 190 or even 200 tools, you want to complete the first 200 lessons. And again, just allowed you to practice your typing speed and it will teach you all the correct ways. If I open up, let's see, let's open up a lesson. Which one should we go for? Let's go for the basic, okay, basic level 1, this little lesson number 89. Now you don't want to start off here. I'm just doing this so I can show you what this website is about and how it teaches you. So right now you go, should we totaling 21 words per minute to add at this? And by time you reach this, you automatically get to that speed. And of course this is just the basics. And as you progress faster, your requirements get higher and higher and start to teach you how to type capital letters. How you can use the Shift Key, how you want to tape the on the number role could there's ways of doing it. And with these waves, you can type much faster. So let's go ahead and open up the basic level 89. Now it's asking me, are you sure you want to skip pass all these other lessons? We're going to go ahead and click continue. But again for you, you want to start off with the first one. So right off the bat, you can see this is the sentence that we have good type. And it's also showing you exactly how you can tape it. So you want to place your fingers on the DSC. And as far as your right-hand goal is, you want to place on the J key and semicolon Nonaka and give you a complete lesson on how you can improve your typing speed. But this is just a B6 and I just wanted to give you a quick run-through of this website. Let's go ahead and type now. And now it's tongue and introduce my rate ring finger to take all my left. Bring your finger for w and my thumb for space. My index finger for T, H, and then my pinky for a key. And then you can see each finger has a set of letters that it's assigned to. So the rate index fingers assigned for y, H, and N. And again, I'm OK, unquote through all the fingers, but open up this website and they'll show you how you can do it. So let's just go ahead and ministers KN know WHO, W, T or T, yp E, WI, sorry, and if you do make a mistake, it affects your accuracy. And it'll also tell you what your accuracy is. So a TH, ALL TEN have ING comma L VTS, WOR key own Y-O-U-R as PED AND THE O, B, O and T. Or you can see as I'm typing, it's a tongue you were AIG need to pull my fingers as okay. Now besides out we got a score of 2200 and we also got this achievement. So I've typed for 15 words per minute forward ten seconds. So there's my trophy. And we also got another one. We can hear us to add. Since I am typing on the weekend, I can reward for that. And my total score again, 2300. And words per minute is 16. Now the minimum requirements, three words per minute. So if you don't hit three words permanent, you automatically fill this. And ideally you want above 10 words per minute. Now your target should be, of course, much higher. But these are just a basic requirements. Now as far as accuracy goes, your target should be above 80 percent. We hit accuracy of 100%, but our real accuracy is 98% because we did make that mistake. And the reason it says a 100 percent is we went back and fixed it. So it's a 100 percent, but the real accuracy is 90% right here. Now the highest score you can get is 3000. So id name for that each and every single time. But as long as you're getting five-stars, you should be good to go. Once you're done, you simply go ahead and click Next. So it's on the bottom right here that you won't be seeing it because it's off-camera, but it's just an arrow. And now this in the next lesson, so we're on Lesson number 90. And again, this is just to increase your speed. So we're not really focusing on any specific letter a. So let me go ahead and just call back in good Two different lessons where it's actually focusing on a specific letter. So that's that we'll do probably in the earlier lectures. Okay? So practice Q and Y sub o. Go ahead and click on that. Now, a lot of letters will be q and y, because again, that's what we're practicing. So SH, E, F, Q you a LIF lie, ALORE a DUI. And you can see that thing is, as you are typing the ring and the pinky fingers probably want the hardest fingers to learn because of the fact that they're so weak and you're not, if you're typing like most people who own using your index finger and your thumb and of course, or your pinky and index finger barely get used and they would be really weak. So as you're practicing, you're going to get better at it. And hopefully over time, you do improve. Well, yeah, as you can see you as we're working on this, it would improve direct q and y. And let's go ahead and go back and just go through these lessons as many as you can. And just naturally with the practice, your typing speed will improve. Now another website that I also recommend, no less if you're done 200 of these lessons and you don't want to go much past that. You can also go ahead and use this other website, key BR. And this is another great website. So let's go ahead and close this off. And really the benefit of this website is that it actually allows you to improve on your specific weaknesses. So go ahead and go on settings and extend keyword side. Click Done. Now the test me on all the letters. So let me just go ahead and type GREE space, the RDS in E, W VRE, see I made a mistake there. So a notch and read TUE Jia Li Ni CRE. Yes, THE O and the O to you and TREC space and me, w, e, w ARE, see, v, w, tough course, you're going to be locked off to one. You just focus on the Oxford typing. But again, just keep practicing and you're going to improve over time. My score, I D E, C space as QED PL EAR. See now that we have that typed out, now we're back with the results. So we're good on the E, We're good on the end. The t isn't the best. We're doing really bad with the Gs, the V's and accused. And what it's going to do based off their data is it's going to focus more on those letters until you can improve them and bring them into green. Great, Now we're testing the letter Y because of course we have no data for that y, p of x and j. And of course, over time, once you start getting a degree and you are all the letters green, and then you're good to go and you don't really have any weaknesses. So just practice this website typing club in combination with keep your and your typing speed will just naturally improve over time. And that combined with actually transcribing audio and making money off dot de su combinations will help improve your typing speed. And over time, you're earning potential will increase alongside that. So yeah, that's it for this lecture. And I highly recommend testing out these websites. And I'll see you in the next one. 13. Points To Mention In Your Resume : If you want to increase your odds of getting hired at the transcription is, then you're going to need a solid resume. A resume helps you stand out from the crowd. But we all know that this is much easier said than done. So how do you formulate the perfect resume? Well, it's just a combination of a few things and that's exactly what this lecture is all about. For starters, employers want to know the great listening skills, which goes transcription begins by listening to an audio. And if we're not able to do that, then your typing speed is irrelevant. Now, don't get me wrong. Having a high words per minute account is essential and I'll cover that in just a second. But you want to prove to your employer that you are also a great listener. And to do that, you don't just simply right, I have good listening skills. Instead, you take it a step further by stating, I have great listening skills. I can differentiate between speakers and can understand heavy accents that gives more detail on what you mean and also mentions a few key points that many struggle would select this example and many others. You'll know that the key is to be more specific on your resume. Like I stated, or near typing speeds of MOSFET transcripts. And it's one of those prerequisites are required in order to become weren't. So how do you go about stating this in your resume without no mentioning the same line every other applicant does. Can type upwards of so and so words per minute, dominance not instead you want to mention, can type out an average talking speed by somebody. Bring this point up unless the employer know that you're not only able to type fast, but also are an experienced transcriptionists and know what it means to be a great one. Because if you're able to keep up with the speaker and don't have to constantly re-run the audio, then you are an ideal candidate. Although typing speed is essential, it doesn't mean much without high accuracy. So you want to be sure that your employer is aware of how your typing speed does not compromise your accuracy. This is because as a client, you want to make sure that your audio fall is transcribed as accurately as possible. So when clients are browsing through their options, there are really looking for sites that I can guarantee a high typing accuracy. And so if that's something that your clients warrant, you can be sure that's also something that your employer wants as well. So then the question comes down to, how should you work this on your resume? You would think it's just as simple as just aiding 90 percent accuracy on transcripts, but it's not. Instead you want to mention Ken average 90 percent accuracy in most audio files with minimum 96 percent accuracy on difficult ones. This sounds so much more convincing. And some of the points when we want to add to this is my experience as an editor has trained me to proofread and deliver the best called the transcripts. This again, insurers to the employer that you are able to deliver quality work. And let's not forget about including experienced in our resume. Because if I'm being completely honest, that's really the meaning that these companies are looking for. You could have the best resume. Talk about how fast you can type, or even how great your listening skills are. But if you don't have any past experience, your most less likely to get hired. So how do you combat this? Well, you look for transcription work on freelance sites like Fiverr or Upwork. And then from there you can go ahead and build your portfolio. And that little bit of experience will put you pass 90 percent of applicants. And remember to be detailed about the specific type of work you did. Whether it be for legal proceedings, insurance fraud, or interviews for corporations. Remember, the more experienced, the better and experiences by far the most important aspect of the resume. If you include these couple of points and combine it with a bit of persistent, then you shouldn't be well on your way to getting your first job as a transcription is and don't worry, later on in the course or exactly how you can pass these transcription exams that are often brought up during the hiring process. These are crucial if you want to land a job as a transcriptionists. So it's important that you know how to do them well. 14. Applying to Jobs With No Experience: In the last lecture, I talked about creating your resume. What points to include, and how you may want to word them. And that's great. But I also mentioned how important it is to help solid experience on your resume. As that's what most employers look for when hiring potential candidates. So what do you do when you have no experience? Well, that's exactly what I'm going to show you in this lecture. So let's hop on my computer and continued there. Now on joined your computer it Let's go ahead and hop on to Google. And let me show you a couple websites that require absolutely no experience you get into. Because once you get these jobs, you can start building your experience and start replying for the real job. Because although these are great beginner websites, they don't pay that well. And really the only receives you'd work for these companies is if you want gene experience and treat it as a stepping stone to your actual transcription job. So go ahead and go on to Google. And let's go ahead and start off with one of the most popular transcription companies out there. Our turns, scribe me, go ahead and click Enter. And yet, go ahead and this is the first one are here, transcribed me.com. Go ahead and open up. And on this first page, this is what customer see. So that doesn't mean that you'll be earning 15 to $22 per hour, but you'll be earning damage per ADU hour day you transcribe you. So if you transcribe one hour long video, you'll get paid anywhere between 15, $22. Which I mean, if you're a beginner, you can expect to transcribe one hour of audio in four hours of actual time. And so it's 1, 2, 4. And as you become more experienced, you can transcribe three hours of audio in around four hours. So of course, the faster you can take, the more you'll get paid. So that's right there. Grow and learn. So did live in promotion and hiring would then that's obviously a great sign, but that's not really applicable to us. Cause our goal is to just gain experience from this job and take it onto a different job. Now if you can grow within, that's always great news to hear, but I don't think even if you get promoted, you'll be bid down much more when it comes to transcribe me. That's from transcribed me. So skip, pass on. Crowd surf. Go ahead and confirm your account. You can go ahead and enter your email. So that would be draw V and password. And remember me and go ahead and login. Okay, I am not a robot. Taxis. Taxi, taxi. And I don't see any others. I'm not to try that. Verify Of course. Taxes. Or what am I missing here? Select this traffic simple one. Kit and verify. Perfect. Let's go ahead and login. And once we're in, go ahead and fill out our details, phone number and I don't know if we need it to do. Don't don't don't turn to continue. Okay. So I'm just going around me. I don't know if I should even fill this out. It's caused says put it in a random draws. Robbins or school for a material notice, continue industry. I mean us to do something around I don't him to serve relevant job title. Teacher. Perfect. Okay. And then you can go ahead and fill this out. Again. You want to spend more time on this? I'm doing a quickly just for the sake of the video. Continue. Great. You're now ready to search and apply for assignments, complete or binky information, tax information, and add skills to profile. So go ahead and get started. There, you have it. And you can go ahead and begin from here. You always want to go ahead and take the test as well so you can start getting work. So my work find work. And the work should be available over here. But of course we need to go ahead and complete our profile, do the tests. And based off that, it'll begin giving us test. Now finally, the last website that I also recommend is rev.com. Again, another great beginner website. This is the consumer side tree here. So do you do transcription captions, foreign subtitles? So did do a dollar 25 per minute. This is not what we earned, but rather what the customer pays. So we probably get even less than that because obviously they want take their profits out before they begin to pay us for foreign subtitles. This is basically translating it and then transcribing the audio. So that's what that is. And obviously that's going to be more expensive. But for us, we're looking for a job. So you want to scroll all the way down. And there you have it. Become a freelancer. Learn and go ahead and fill in your information will be Timmy. Timmy chart as always. And for email address, the Harvard position, we won't be going transcriptionists, Canada. Click Next. And right off the bat, there'll be testing you, so you can go ahead and fill this out, do the test. And once you're done, again, it does take a couple days for them to process your test. And I will I'll give yourself an hour to complete it. This does it generally take long for me. I remember you. I believe that they can hour and a half when I did it. So I would say I was fairly slow at the time. But no should take you an hour, hour and a half to complete this. And once you're done, submit it, it will give them a couple days and they'll come back with the results and you should be able to begin transcribing. So there you have it. Though the three beginner in companies that are highly recommend you begin working work. Keep in mind that these are not the best pin companies because really there's two issues with use. One is the p power isn't the best to combat that you obviously want to increase your typing speed and just become a faster transcription as you know, by being able to pick up mistakes faster north fixed spelling mistakes. And one night and I just obviously convert time. And of course, you know, if you're practicing and working on your typing speed, are Dao help you transcribe faster. Now the other issue is, not all of these sites have work available all the time, so it's best I you don't really work for one company, but rather apply for all of them. Then begin working in a sea wherever you have work, you can work on that. And if they're done for the day or they don't have any work available, you can just store it in the harpoon to transcribe me or hop on to crowd serve and started working there. So those are the two of the biggest issues with these companies. And now I've just laid out on the best way to best calm down pat. But regardless, you don't want to stay with these communists for too long. These are mainly a steppingstone in order to get you experience a seeking word and apply for jobs that pay you had a much higher rate, but they also have higher requirement. So yeah, that's it for this lecture. And I'll see you in the next one. 15. Indications of a Scam: This is a topic that not many of us like to discuss. Still, it's important that we do so to prevent this from happening or at least minimize it. Because believe it or not, the transcription industry has tons of scams and the target is often innocent people like you who are looking for a transcription job. So be careful when applying and beyond the lookout. The following indications. For starters, one of the most common types of scan is where the practice test is extremely long. They may even be asking you to transcribe an entire hour of audio. And this could be assigned that they're asking you to transcribe actual files submitted by their clients so they're able to get free work done without having the intention of actually hiring you. So when you're looking at transcription, you shouldn't be required to transcribe more than, let's say, 15 to 20 minutes of audio. Anything more than that could be a bad sign. Saw avoided. Another scam you want to avoid is with companies that don't pay you until they are paid. Now, this isn't quite as scam, but it's usually a new company that may not have the fonts to pee you immediately or covered the cost of an unpaid client. And that's unfortunate, but that doesn't mean that you should be the one having to cover their unexpected expenses. So you're better off looking elsewhere. Something else you want to look out for. And this isn't specific for transcription. Instead, the supplies to jobs as a whole, which is if the pay seems too good to be true than it probably is. Now not seeing avoid these companies at all cost, but proceed with caution. This means doing a little bit of research looking for reviews left bypass employees, and also looking at transcription forms or groups, as they're great place for her to find mentions of people who had been scammed in the past by other communists or the specific company that you look into. I get a Job Act. Now, I don't mean to scare you with this lecture, but rather to inform you of some of the potential scams going on and how you can spot them. That way you don't get a bad first experience with the transcription. 16. Getting Hired!!: In this section, we're going to be diving deeper into getting a job as a transcription is because early on I showed you how you can apply for various transcription companies. And all of them had exams that you had to pass once you had applied. Now, for some, these exams are easy and they can pass them without question. But for many others, this is where they get stuck and turn away, especially if they had attempted one before a net field. So to ensure that doesn't happen to you, I'll be sharing my screen while I'm attempting an exam for a transcription company. That way you can see and understand my thought process. And I'll also cover some of the best tips and tricks to help you pass your transcription exam. 17. Attempting Grammar and Style Portion (Exam): In this lecture, we're going to be attempting the transcription test. And dad is given by red.com now to a very basic test, and it's broken down into two parts. First one being the grammar and style, and it's essentially just a bunch of multiple choice questions. Are 21 of them to be exact. And once you complete that, it'll give you a couple of the transcription guidelines that are specific to RAB.com. And then it will give you a transcription sample for which you have to go ahead and listen to the audio and make a few corrections on the transcription so your hub detects the doubt and there'll be some errors within it and you have to go home and fix it. And once you're done, you go ahead and submit it and you'll get your results back from Reb. But for now we're gonna go ahead and attempt the first part. A lot of people to fill this. There are some people that pass in on the first try. But if you're a native English speaker, then this shouldn't be too hard. Buffers someone whom English may not be first language. This may be a bit difficult, but that's why I'm creating this lecture. So I can go ahead and walk you through the questions and just maybe give you my thought process and they ignore what I'm thinking of as I'm going through this and as I'm attempting the exam, I might throw in a few tips and tricks to help you pass the exam. So the first section is style guide, and the second one is word choice. And the third one is sentence structure. So these are the two sections. And once complete, we can go ahead and submit it. So first one it says, choose the option that is properly transcribed. It's raining today, so unless you want to get drenched, you're going to need your umbrella. So right off the buyed, something that I notice is the word 10. Now that's something I mean, you could see it. It's sort of a short form for 12, but it's not an actual word. And alongside that is also gonna. Gonna is not an actual word but people said, and this is how it could be spelled out if we were to type it out. Now again, these two are not real words. So 10 is basically you trying to see 12 and goanna is going to end. There may be a few more mistakes. I don't see anything right now, but let's go ahead and see what we can do. So you can see the first option is a, it says it's going to rain today. So unless you want to, of course, do correction, you're going to need your umbrella. So let's see, and right here, this third, fourth entrepreneurs as 10 and going on. So do there, obviously incorrect. So we can go ahead and eliminate them. Now we're left with these 21 to coin to really do need to fruit. I see. Is this right here? So it is, and it's now the correct one. And it's because obviously data set it. So that's how we're going to transcribe it. Now, after speaker said it is raining today, then of course, that's what we would do. Now for one, Although he said it like this, That's really spelt out. Want to. So that's not. So the correct answer for number one would be E. And there's no real letters, but it's the first option. Now next one is nice to meet you. I'm Michelle, Director of product here AT and front. Now you can see the speakers are labeled and very often, but we want to ignore that data incorrect because we know her name is Michelle. So a wouldn't be labeled person. This could be croaked. Incorrect, incorrect. Now the reason why this is incorrect, it's not capitalize. It's not an old woman. I mean, she may be an old woman, but we can see her name. So the croak one would be Michelle. Now I can go to a few more details, but right off the bat, I know that this is a correct one somewhere to go ahead and skip past that. And number three, we're going to Paris in a few day, okay, right off the bat. You should be an S because it should be plural. So if we look at the options, incorrect. Down to these two, we as going to Paris, I'm not incorrect. We are going to Paris in a few days. So that's the correct one. So this is incorrect because it's not plural. And this is going to Paris in a few Dreze at 10, correct? It should be our eroded and is so let's go ahead and stuff like that. And the next option is they're not going to go there anymore because their car wouldn't start. Since this is a clean verbatim, you would get rid of the arm. So that means that this is incorrect and that is incorrect. Now we're left with this option and Dan option. Now there's two types of deer there and there. This would be the correct one because with the RE it stands for DR. Not going to go rather than just one. And so we're gonna go ahead and select. They're not going to go there. They're not going to go there anymore because their car wouldn't start. She's asked to drink. Did appointed there is a new national which one's correct. And which one isn't saw again, if we look at this as vol, this incorrectly place it should be disabled there rather than death there. Now if you don't know the difference, you can always look it up on Google. And there's plenty of articles out there explaining the difference between the three and also giving you examples as well. But now school headed go to the next one. She didn't even she really didn't know how to accept a news. Now, this I'm guessing since we would probably get rid of this because it's clean rubidium. And so she started her thought and she stopped and she continued with the different time. So we can go ahead and eliminate that. And that she so she didn't even obviously that's incorrect. And she did in human comma, that's incorrect as well. So she really didn't know how to accept the news. She really didn't know how big SAP news. So tao would be it. Because again, we're doing clean rubidium and that means we would get rid of this initial part Next wall. I mean, they are like some other ways to go about it. This is clearly testing us on whether or not we know which words need to be eliminated, in which words need to be kept when you're transcribing. Verbatim saw an obvious one is to get rid of the arms as well. So I see here incorrect. And I mean, there are other ways to go about it. That could be correct. Well, I mean, there are like, of course, we need to get rid of the Lakers war because in verbatim. And that leaves us down to these two. And we need to include the, well, now this could be a tricky one. Some mighty there you don't want to include it. But I know for a fact that you need to include well, when it comes to transcribing verbatim, so this would be the correct one. And let's see if dusty only difference. I mean, there are there are some other ways to go about yeah, the only difference is this. Well, and that's something that we want to include. Next one. Hi John, how're you? I'm not feeling well poll. So essentially know the name of the speakers. I shouldn't be speaker one and speaker two. So that's eliminated. And this one, John. Hi John, how are you? Of course, if we're seeing high joint. So it's assumed that she's now joined by ruddy speaking huge giant. And obviously Paul would NC, I'm not feeling well, Paul is, so that means that this would be reversed. So this would be the correct one. Paul. Hi John, how are you? John says I'm not filming Walpole. Okay. Now we're on to the next section. We're choice. Now, I am going to do this as fast as they can. Put. Really make sure that you are taking the time to cool to it. Check your answers. If you want to. Double-check your answer is Google them because this is a onetime attempt and there is no time limit. So make sure that you do take advantage of that. And of course, once you have the job and you're transcribing audio accurately, that's when you can start picking up your speed. But for now your goals should be just accuracy and getting the correct answers. So let's go ahead and get back into the exam. So word choice, choose the word that best fits the sentence I read. As I read good. I mean, there could be an option. Better one would be irate well, irate when our innocence. So the best argument would be irate. Well, some might say good, but that's incorrect as he, that's where it becomes a bit tricky, but I know for a fact that the answer is irate. Well, now next question. Her nervousness, harder, profound effect on our ability to play the piano. It affected me too. So you just have to know the difference between a fact and affected. And if you don't know the difference and you try learning the difference, you still can't seem to figure it out. A trick that I do have a for taking these exams is that you can quite easily just copy this. And you can go to grammarly. And she go ahead and click New. After you copy this, go ahead and paste this ratio in Grammarly would keep you the answers. So if I go ahead and type, tesco has an effect. And then let's go ahead and over here the type is affected. And just let it load. And you can see right off the bat it's tongue that this is incorrect because critters spelling. So if I go ahead and select, this is telling me that the crack on is affected. So that means the answer would be either to be so damn means that the answer would either be number 1, could have voted, or number three. So we're nearly done. Note either D or E re knowledge Tang me, it's correct, but you can never always 100 percent trust Grammarly. So let's go ahead and type in IE. And let's see if it corrects that. And there you have it replaced the word wood fact. So there you go. So e and e. So that means that the correct answer is number one. That's a cool little trick that I highly recommend that you do. Do you mean a premium? Grammarly membership and My Media, if you're willing to pay $30 for one month, you could do that and just take this exam and then cancel your membership. I don't believe that the free trial. So that's not an option. So see you next year. Do you like to sleep under the stars? Obviously, that's what it would be. Incorrect. Incorrect. I'm not even going to go through it. My interests was peaked when I found out he was a world-class chess player. So Pete, Pete, Pete, that all said the same way, but they're spelled differently. So you just need to know what the differences between these are. I know that the correct one is this and this is the correct way. And we'll class. You don't need to add a hyphen here. You don't need to add a hyphen. I mean, even if you didn't know whether or not you had to add it right off the bat. Just looking over here, since I know that this is the correct one, this should also be the correct one. Now, this one, levee Levee saw the baby could not hold back the flood. No, no, no. Don't know if I'm pronouncing this correctly, but just be solved. Decline takes I know that this would be the correct one. And these are completely different meanings. And I also think that this may be a brand like a clothing brand as wall. So that's obviously incorrect and that's incorrect. So based off the contracts, we're going to Louis VII. And because that is something that holds back water and it's used to prevent overflows or rivers. And in this case it could be a flood. So that's not. And did you know that Hong Kong is one of the most populous cities? So of course it's now not going to be population. So it's between these two and the correct spelling wouldn't be populace. On this one I believe is a plant of nine if I'm not mistaken. But you can always go ahead and go searching on Google and she would it means. But let's see next one. When I was young, I always took my teachers for obviously granted, not granted, not in Grand Slam granted. So that's done. And sentence structure now on the final section, and choose the best punctuation and capitalization for each sentence. Now for this, the best way to combat this is just an elimination. That's the only way or one of the best wish to pass this section, just eliminate the ones that you nor incorrect. Just narrow it down to the wine. So choose a sentence that it had routine correctly. Did you hear that the Denver so this has to be capitalized and I mean, this isn't so does in Dutch incorrect. So we're left with 123. And that's also a night capitalised, so that's eliminated. Now we're left with option 1 and 3, wander Monday night football game, the poor Kansas City. That's also incorrect code that needs to be capitalized. So I know that this is the correct answer, and that's really how you're going to do most of these, I believe. But again, this chord to the next one, Which sending this correctly capitalize in punctuated. She'll okay, now it's incorrect because I'd show and obviously we're referring to a female. So she'll, and that's also incorrect because Dionysus be capitalized because it's the first word in the sentence. So we're left with these two. She'll never get her own room. That does not need to be capitalised. So number three, which of the following sentences is correctly punctuated? It all capitalize. Everyone has special skills. Some people use them very well. So just wanted PID of a top foreign special skills. So the differences and the argued and end will be here and NOR and more Kirchner, everyone has some special skills. And somewhere I mean, I don't think you need, you don't need an and here source. These two are eliminated. Everyone has some special skill. Everyone has special skills and use them. So so there would be this. Okay, So that's also eliminated. So that's the correct one because you do need a bit of a pause before you continue on. So those who would be number two, and we'd sentence is correctly capitalize and punctuated. Again, elimination. Incorrect. I needs to be capitalized. I saw Mike. Mike is a names for Donald to be capitalised. So we're left with 2 and 4. I saw, and there's no period. Okay. So number 2 design have appeared for the anteriors. Number 4, choose a sentence that is written correctly. My favorite tours, long the deal and Macy's. My favorite stories are Bloomingdale's and me. She's my sister only shut off and Nordstrom. Okay. Now I can see that Nordstrom does not need an S, So these two are eliminated. So we're left with 14. And this needs to be capitalized obviously because it is a store, so it should be 1980. Next one, which sentence is correctly capitalize and punctuated? In NaN. Okay. They're all tabloids out, correct? Spin-spin. Okay. Now did not capitalize, it needs to be because it's a country. So in Spain did. So CRC is going to be honest. So you search on Google. She also is a short naps taken. Okay. So it's enough. Another words, a nap. Obviously the knob does not need to be capitalised. So that's incorrect. So incorrect, incorrect. And we're left with these two. And in Spain that takes CSS. So now since we're left with these two, I do know the correct answer, but if you want to double-check, you can always go ahead and copy one of them. And C, Copy, go on to grammarly and C. And see if they suggest you leaving a comma. Okay, perfect. So they're asking that there is a column missing. So di means that the correct answer would be, see what I did there. It's a very cool technique and that's why I highly recommend if you are taking transcription exams just for one month to sign up through Grammarly and you should keep or to pass it very easily. So that's that. And which sentence is capitalize correctly? Incorrect, incorrect because we need capitalisation. First word, can and are. Cowden your words capitalize. So the answer is 218, and there you have it. We've done the entire town. It was fairly simple. Who didn't take us too long. But really the hard one is the second part of the exam. After the guidelines we're going to be taking this second part. Mind that's a bit tough. But as far as the first section, golden, those fairly easy. And once you're done, you can always go ahead and review your answers just to double-check. And if you'd feel everything's good and you can go ahead and select Next page. Now, want to the second section, and we're going to go ahead and review this in the next lecture. And just go ahead and go over some of the transcription guidelines. There are specific you laid out for. Because again, the style guides do vary from company to company. So you wanna make sure you review them before attempting that transcription exam. See other tip for this lecture and I'll see you in the next one. 18. Attempting The Transcription Portion (Exam): In this lecture, we'll move on to the second part of the transcription exam, which is a fixing the transcription. So we'll read the house here is okay, let's go ahead and open up the transcription sample first. So the way that rib test you is how this sample text tray here. And you also have an audio file that you can play. And you want to go ahead and make the corrections as you're listening to it. Maybe if they're forgot a word, they didn't capitalize something or the misspelled something. So you want to go ahead and listen to this and transcribe it so it's customer ready. So let's go ahead and play this. And this is again the second part of the exam. And this is where most people feel like the grammar and style section right here it down one's fairly easy. But when it comes to this second part, it's a bit tough. So you wanna make sure that you did review the transcription guidelines laid out by Rev and be soft diet. You can go ahead and complete deaths. And also you should be in mind you can have the transcription guide open up while you're doing the test. So that again, increasing your chances of passing it. So let's go ahead and get started with the transcription. And that's c in such two minutes and 46 seconds. So she didn't take that long. So let's go ahead and get started. Play. Please listen carefully. Because so right off the bat, I noticed the first mistake. She did not capitalize rove since it is accompany. Listened to go back. Listen carefully. Okay. And there would be a comma right here. Okay? So here there shouldn't be a comma. Okay? Capitalize aren't perfect. Expectations. Right off the bat and another mistake, easier to fix. Capitalize breve. See you soon. Let's hear that again. I don't think that's spelled correctly, so you wanna make sure that the names are spelled correctly as well. That's still your responsibility. So I want to make sure that they didn't Jason. Sure. I believe she said she cola. But let's go ahead and just go ahead and copy this and make sure you get the CEO part that we give you the correct spelling. So I mean, in narrow down the search results. So let's go ahead and open Control V Enter. Okay, So who's CEO for RAB.com? Okay, yeah. So this into Coda and then that JSON, JSON, JSON to cola, Yeah, Dutch TC spot in correctly. So it's CHI, see oily. And thus an industrial. You want to make sure that you're listening to the speaker. Okay, let me check again. Ch COLS to cola. So she put two col again. So you can fix this max second one. Okay. Sorry. Just to be sure, let me go ahead and search this one up as war charged per near. So for this, what you would do is since he's a co-founder, former OED does call. So what I would do is Odesk colleague so that we again, you'll find the right person in give me this bone accordingly. Control V. Okay. So you said it's building correctly, so let's see. So I wouldn't believe in B R, E, N linger. She say it would be. And then I, L, I N G are outlined here. Okay. Perfect. God tie, Correct. Josh Brown lingered 2008. Doctors continue. This needs to be capitalized. This would be the end of the sentence. I'm Muslim and thus what's me? Well, yeah, so tell me is audio to text though it's a company, so that needs to be capitalized. Another easy mistake, easy, easy X-ray here. If you don't know the difference between dare, Dare in there, I would highly recommend you to search that. I'll bet that's a very common mistake that a lot of new transcription as this one would be one. Okay, I'm going to get dare tao would be from there. Yeah. Okay. Darwin's correct. Research skills. We'll hold that we wash. And that's another thing that either your intestine on social is you could see complete sentences that wouldn't be in the transcription, so you'd have to type those out as well. For a second. I was confused on a world where am I? Research skills such as spelling system. Also cisco food company, Cisco research skills such as correctly smelling Cisco, Cisco food company. So here's the trick. So you're talking about research. So Cisco food, listen to the entire audio, actually Cisco software as a C sharp as SQL. Okay, So Cisco did many waves of spilling Cisco depending on what you're talking about. So right now She's talking about the Cisco food company, which I'm sure I know how to spell the I think it's S YS food company there it is. So that's how it would be stopped. But if let's say I spelled it incorrectly, Cisco and type in food company, what it would do is see, it corrects me the correct spelling, your Cisco, Cisco Canada food delivery. So if I spelled it incorrectly, just cuz I put in food companies, it gives me the correct spelling for it. So that's what she means by research skills score sheet. This building, what was this building? Seo company acquired and repeated kinescope. Cisco Cisco software. And this one I know Cisco notorious camps who let's say I misspelled it. So this cis software. So let's go ahead and search that up. And you can see a correct my spelling CISC 0. So I'm not start Cisco software to accompany W2. Research skills such as correctly as well as seizure. See now you would assume it C sharp, if you don't know, Don is, they'll tell you type it and that's incorrect. If your research skills on point, you can just type in C Sharp. And you can see what a, when they're talking with C-Sharp, you have to put this number sign-in rather than actually typing out C sharp, C right there. So that means if I come here, it should be C sharp. Continuous callback. Again, another mistakes, uninformed search on up. And it says C SQL programming, they would slow down. B, C SQL. I say I just completely misspell it. And you can see the fight that we put in programming languages. Google automatically knows we're talking to SQL. So when we weren't, she says SQL Indices how you want to spell it. So let's go back here. Cisco software as a C-sharp is SQL. Programming languages were done with DOD style guide rights. It's important. Perfect score next ones. Okay. Let me go ahead and do the do no harm. I was going to go ahead and do the speakers. So first speaker would be, let's see. We'll just call it teacher in determining teacher peak. So this one was a score here. I just want to remove so this was expectations. Okay, So dy du speaker 2, we're going to call it female. And thus, so we look for in a freelancer is called our speaker three. And we can call it meal. Now keep in mind, customer will not see this. So this is just for our own reference. So if we wanted to remember which is which. Okay, perfect. Okay, and now we're going go ahead and do the rest. Perfect. And how do you handle difficult audio tapes? See so DOD is not to male, so we can go ahead and dad would be speaker to call it. So Don means that this is also a speaker to recommend. Agents work on which they're otherwise use appropriate notation tags such as inaudible tags for indiscernible dialogue. So please do your best articles by slowing down audio or with wind you Sorry, I didn't catch any mistake there. So often GO term replayed just to be sure. Difficult audio. Agents work on engineering. Discernible by slowing down. Your perfect. So there's enormous takes no dots, good. And the inaudible, she, talking about the inaudible tags. We covered that in the last lecture. And I believe we should be using them in this as well. Okay? And of course, that's where we would use a tag in DOD, which would be foreign language. So if I want to add a tag here, since it is a foreign language, where you would do is go ahead and put your cursor there and do timestamps. And then from here you can see inaudible cross-talk foreign language and other tag. So for us it would be a foreign language. You could do the shortcut or you could just simply go ahead and click on it and it inserts it, and it also inserts a timestamp as well. So since we're on 154 and it would automatically inserted 1234. But let me go ahead and replay just to make sure it is on 154. That's not okay. So on 149 is 27. Let's call it 15. I see it as easy as dots, very simple. You don't even have to type in and just use the timestamps for you here. Let me go ahead and repeat. Should be if a file periods they're repeated again. Foreign language speech. And this file is a 100 percent in a foreign language. What is an automated reporting in the files considered unworkable, it must be unclaimed, not submitted. There would be a unclaimed right there as well. Always repeated just to be sure. So that's going to be unclaimed, not submitted. What about software or equipment? So tao would be speaker to France. Software is optimized to work with the latest version of Google Chrome. Your boards is one word, if I'm not mistaken. Let's see. So go on Google here. So if I do, if I do a space, okay? So Google does correctly, and so that is one word. So there's type one word and make sure. Okay, perfect. So earbuds as one word. Tablets. Okay, Perfect. Now joined and I feel like I need to fix is speakers. I feel like there were two female speakers. So the complete transcript, expectations. Okay, Does one speaker, the other one? Thus the same one for VR. So there was one team I thought I heard two different female voices. Okay. Correct. So one is teacher speaker three. Speaker two. We can also go ahead and make a note here. Female. Okay, so let's start onStart and we can also add colors if you'd like. It's not really important, but there's not. So now, for the teacher, colored, not just makes it just a bit more visually appealing. And that's it. It's a very simple transcription. It wasn't too difficult. We got to it. But if you are doing this and again, this is your first time, I would just review it in like 567 times just to make sure that you got each and every single mistake out the way. Because the last thing you want is for them to find errors and then, and then disapprove your application. Because in reality it's not too difficult. As long as you're just looking out and making sure there's no silly mistakes. You will get approved. And once you're done, you can go ahead and click Submit. And almost done. We just need to agree. You must get printer Erfurt agree. Squires submitted. Thank you for taking the time to submit your obligation. We knows a lot of work and we appreciate your effort, will review your application as soon as we can. Now, when I applied to rev, you took like I think three to four days and usually that's how long it takes. But I've had students that told me it takes up to two to three weeks for them to get approved. The soul, I mean, don't stress too much. If you've applied in weeks gone by and you haven't gotten a response from Rev, dueling time I would stress is if you do get a response and then DC, you're rejected. That would obviously saw it, but you can always create a new account and apply again to Rev. And this time you can fix all the mistakes that you've made. Now Rep doesn't tell you which mistakes you made. But you can always retry. Be more attentive, and you should be good to go. But apart from that, I mean, if you fall this dubs read the transcription guidelines are two very, very important. As long as you read that. And make sure, make sure there's no little silly mistakes, capitalizations and one NADH. Then you should be good to go. And then you can go ahead and begin transcribing audio and making money. It's really as simple as that, It's not too difficult. And also, again, make sure you're double-checking all your spelling mistakes or whether it be your names. Companies, just phrasings. I choose C Sharp, sql and so on and so forth. So yeah, that's it for this lecture. I just hold the best of luck to all of you who are looking to get a job as a transcription is with rev.com.
