1. Intro to The Complete Chess Tactics Bootcamp: Are you tired of Rooney and good positions in one or two moves? Welcome to my course. We are together. Well known just tactics through practice. I just player who really loves online learning. I've been analyzing hundreds of games in order to select the best positions relevant to your progress. This course is for beginners when intertwined heart, you will be brighter with everything you need to train, including files to analyze positions comfortably. In addition to running lots of political ideas, including forks, pins, skewers, tactical sacrifices, technically patterns. You will learn a simple method to know how to look for deictic ideas in any position. Thank you for your time. And I can't wait to see you inside. 2. What You Need to Do the Course: Hello and welcome to my course where we'll learn in practice a lot of jazz tactics. This course will contain activities in a recession and in interactivity. I'll give you a positions to analyze and to make it easier for you to analyze each position. Whenever I give you an activity, go to Resources and download the file containing the instructions for the activity about their DVD. Ideally, it would be great if you can try to solve the positions in your mind. In this case, you will drain as if you were playing a game, because in a game you wouldn't be able to move the pieces. But if you find this hard, you can use a dashboard or anything that can help you to solve the positions. In any case, what really matters is that you work on the activities because the best way to learn tactics is by far my practice in them. Now I'm going to clarify some words that are used during the course to make sure that we're on the same page. The game of chess has three stages. The opening, the middle game, and the ending. I might mention these wars during the course, but this one really critical because just tactics apply to all stages of the game. The value of a piece depends on opposition, but as a standard, we'll use 1.4 upon three points for bishop's denied, five points for rook, and nine points for a win. Exchange is the difference between a rock and a bishop or a night, which would be 2. So when the exchange would mean within Iraq by giving a night or by giving a bishop. Similarly, sacrificing the exchange would mean given a rock for a bishop or an ICT, a winning position is a position that would correctly, on both sides would still lead to a win to the side. Having the advantage are legal. Movie is a movie that can be played in a position as opposed to an illegal move on a blunder is a very bad move. Throughout the course, we'll analyze positions from white side, as in this case, or from luck side as in this case. That will simply depend on which side we're mainly focusing on. And now I'm going to talk about just mutation and how to read desk games. If you're familiar with this, you can get started. If not, I'll briefly talk about this. The chessboard has eight files and a drunks ranks and files are going to be marked in the dashboard that I will show as in this case. So whenever you have to identify a square, you will just look for the corresponding file and Rang. So in this case we have the file and the third drunk. So the square is F3. So whenever I move a piece to that square, I will name the piece under square. For example, in this case, I'm moving the night to the F3 square. That's why this move would be nice to have three. Whenever I move upon, I will only mention this square. The bond goes to. For example, this move would be the move F3. Getting familiar with the squares is really a matter of practice. So as long as you progress with the course, you will start identifying squares more quickly. At the end of the course, I will provide some games for you to analyze. Reading again is quite simple. First, you will have the name of the players with the player with the white BCs shown first, the cd and the date on which it was played. Then you have the game itself with the result 01 means that black wins. 10 means that white wins. Half appointed means a draw to read the game. If you have a squared that's a bonded moves. For example, E1, E4 means that on the first move, our bond goes 34 and stands for night. B stands for bishop. For example, be C5 means that a bishop goes to C5. R stands for rook, q stands for Quinn, and K stands for gain. Two zeros means to Castle short. Three zeros means to castle along an x is a capture. For example, NX C6 means that the Najd captures our piece on C6. And the plus sign means a check. For example, BY 83 means that the bishop goes to h3 and gives a jack. So it is now time to get started with the course. 3. The Key to Finding Tactical Ideas: Hi there. In this course we'll study a lot of tactical ideas. But before that, I would like to focus on some of them, which is probably more important, is how to find these ideas and how to see these ideas in advance. For that, we need to analyze moves and this process of seeing beforehand and then analyzing what we play on what our opponent will reply. It is called calculation. Now when we have a position, we have many options and our opponent has many options. So the further we go, the harder it becomes to calculate all the moves. And for that, we need a system that will help us calculate better. And how will we calculate better by knowing where to start, by knowing which we should analyze first. And those will be called the candidate moves. But regardless of the name, we need to know where to start and how should you start whenever you have a position and you wanted to calculate accurately, you need to start by analyzing the forces and moments and what are the force and these are checks, captures, or any threat or attack that you might start. Now let's start from the very beginning. Let's imagine that we have this position and our opponent plays the most D4, which is one of the most common moves whenever we start. And here, let's select this position from black's perspective. Here, we need to see if there's any potential for tactic ideas. So here, let's start by checking. If there's any check here, we cannot check whites king. So let's see if we can attack any white faces. And actually here, the only piece that we might think about antagonists, these pawn on the four. So we might think about a duck in the spawn with a movie like C5 might be an idea. Another idea might be a move like E5, or we might even think about a movie like 1986, which attacks upon. Now this point is already defended. And if you play a move like E5 here, white can think similarly about forcing moves. And here y can also this bond. Now this move is actually playable, is a sacrifice, but this is definitely not the main move in this position. And why is that? Because here we don't have a lot of conduct within the BCS. And we'll see that all black species on the first rung. So here this position is not really mature enough for tactics. So here this position is more about evaluating it from a general point of view. So here we are in the opening stage, in the first stage of the game. So here would be more natural to think about developing your bases, bringing the kinda safety. That's why in this position, it is more logical either to play a more like D5, which will allow blacks business to develop. For example, the bishop would develop or to play them overnight to F6, which also develops base. So here in this position, there's not a lot of forcing moves does why it is more logical to think in more general terms or as we call in jazz strategically. Now let's completely change this equation and we go to another position on which at first sight we can already see a lot of potential to attack, to give jags to capture. So here we're analyzing this position from white side. So here would be y to play. So let's try to find out forcing moves that wide my half. Let's start with checks. So here what can give many checks? For example, I can take this bond night seven. Y can also take this MOOC, but as we see, black will just capture the queen. This would not be a good idea. One can also give a check on a fade on G8, on F6. But all those moves there will not be very good because Blackboard simply capture the queen. And here is quite an important note. We must check these ideas at least quickly because some dense these moves that might look bad at first sight might be very good. Now let's take a look at it. Captures, we already checked these capture only eight. Here we can take the bishop, but again, like we just capture the Quinn. And here we might take these Pantone F5. Now here, black is the pathogen is still a bit complicated because while it has two bonds, unblock skiing, as we see, is much more open than whites king, but this is still not very clear. We still have other captures. We already checked this idea of taking 97. We can think about taken the aid, but here we will be exchanged in BCS if we don't get something in return. Again, here we see that y is a piece down, so it doesn't make a lot of sense. Now let's analyze other attacking moves. Even if they look ridiculous less quickly, check them. Here we can analyze the move. 1985 is a very aggressive mode because it attacks if when Mark here like would seem they take night so we're not getting anything in return. So we're going already roll out these move on. Similarly, we can analyze a move like night to be five. But again here, this policy seeks, would capture the night. Now, only if we don't find, if enforcing then we might think about the position from a general point, either to improve our business or to develop. But here there's actually one last move to analyze, which is the mook D7. So the mook to the seven, it attacks the point on the bishop. So this is what we call a double attack that we'll study in the course. This is definitely one of the most important test tactics, and this is actually a very strong move that was played in the game. So at first sight, we might rule out this idea because here we might see another force in move, my black, which is to capture the rook. And if we take on the seven, them like will capture the bond. But again, since this was June is extremely tactical, there's a lot of conduct within the business. We need to analyze other moves in every single position. So here, what has many other moves? And we can see that white has a move which is possibly not very hard to find. If you have this position, which is a move Winn-Dixie, on which we capture a rook. We also give a check. So this is a very force in move, and it is also called an intermediate move, which is another very important idea that we should not recapture a piece immediately. So he actually has to move the king if bishop to a fade, then here we get a checkmate. So after kindred D7, then here would just take the rook. Now, while it has even a material advantage, what is an exchange up? And even a DAG and black skin. So this is just winning for white, won the game after the move up to the seven, like dealing take on the seven. But after Quinta C8, white got the piece back wide now has a modular advantage. So the game, and it very quickly after 37, Windex is seven. I want to continue a few movies to show you how wide really follow this principle. After C5, white, again, blade or forcing move, white gave I check. Here. There's only one move for blood. So this is one of the main ideas that here after the MOOC window, F6 will limit blacks option. So it's much easier for us to play moves undersea ahead. So if Black Hat many replies, it would be very hard to see ahead. But here, after the move kinda D8, we can think about another move. And here in fact, what continue with another quite forcing move, nitrogen five, because these plans to give a checkmate after 1987 and after taking on the five white could have taken but gave a check first, which is another force and move on after kinda took on the five. And the game continued rope to a fade. And here I would like to already warm up a little bit. So here after the move loop to a fade, many of us would have this instinct of just moving the queen immediately. But in any case, let's use these principal unless analyses position, although it has a large advantage, what many moves here? But I would like to ask you to check all the forcing moves that you might find in this position. So try to find all the checks, all the captures, all the attacking moves that you might find in this position. 4. Solution: All right. So I said we're just warming up, so don't worry, if you found this position hard to evaluate after the new course, you will practice a lot. So these positions will become much easier to evaluate. So let's take a look at this position. So white clearly has an advantage. Wide is a one, having a material advantage, having better, uh, pieces. Black skin is being attacked. So here we my blade, pretty much anything but I wanted to ask you to evaluate forcing moves. So let's start with checks. So here we may give a check on G8 or on G7. Here, black would seem like up to the Queen. Now let's take a look at attacking moves here, we might think about the move E7 because it attacks rook. But here I would just take the win. Although we can promote upon, There's no need to give a queen for free. Now let's take a look at the possible captures. First of all, taken on H7 would be bad because black will just capture the queen taken on a 504 also be bad because we're just take here. Take it on I7 might also be an idea. But actually here black might dry since black is already in a variable position, might dry, attack in himself. So here black my play the movie F4. And although here what has a large advantage? Why it has to be a bit careful because like would try to launch a counter attack. And in fact here, again, if black doesn't have jack made in one thread or something extremely direct, we can start with the force in member. So here, for example, the move E7 would be very strong because it will be very forcing. We were attack black species. So you just start analyzing those moves first. By the way, there is also another attack in move when the seven, but it's not very forcefully, but we might also consider this move. Last does a move that we may rule out very quickly, but we need to check these moves at least for a few seconds, which is the queen takes rook and after quintic. So this is the only move. By the way, quintics is a very forced him over because we capture and we give a check. Now here we gave a queen for a rook. But if we continue looking for force and moves, who played him of E7? Here? Again, that only has one more basically because we blend to promote the bonds so we need to stop the bone. So in practical terms, like only has one move and after the move, these Sikhs would just blend again to attack black skiing after the move the seven. And we see that there's no way to stop these ponds. So in fact, this is what was played in the game and in this position, black resigned. So although in these position, white is actually clearly women and white combine many moves like taking on a seven or playing the move Quinto h5. We see that worldwide blade is just very forcing and it finish the game very quickly. And it didn't give any chance for a counter attack. 5. Outro - The Key to Finding Tactical Ideas: So analyzing variations in a game can be very hard. This is what we call calculation. My remember to start with the force in moves. Those moves are checks, captures, or attacking moves. By doing this, you will drastically reduce the number of possible modes in opposition. And it will help you analyze many more moves ahead after that, if you see that forcing moves don't work, then you might analyze other alternatives, including how to analyze a position for my general point of view. So it is not dumb to move on to the next section. 6. Intro - What are Chess Tactics?: Hi again. In this section we will study what tactics are. This is not about finding a strict definition, but mainly to make sure that we're on the same page and that we know what this course will cover, what kind of positions will study, what kind of ideas we'll see. So let's go back to the chessboard to find this out. 7. What are Chess Tactics?: All right, so simply put, tactics are those ideas that are very tangible, that are very short-term. So whenever we're looking for something that we want to have in a few moves, then we're talking about tactical ideas. Now whenever we have an idea which is about the long-term, about what will happen in the game in den, 20 marbles, or we might not even know when will that happen? Then we're talking about strategic ideas. And I wanted to illustrate the difference by showing a very similar move into different games and to see how, in one case this move is a tactical move, and in another case, it is a strategic move. Let's start with the first position. So here it is black to play this nylon before is being attacked. But here, black follow this very important principle that we saw of analyzing forcing moves and play the movie rogue days C3. So here lag is given the ROC for a night, like is given material in this case, given the exchange or whenever we give a rock for a bishop or night will give you the exchange. And here the main idea is, well, first of all, the queen cannot take the road because we would take with the ROCC. So if wide wants to gain material, wide would take with the backbone. But here, black has a very direct way of winning the game, is given a check on a2. And white only has the most kinda C1. And after, when DRE one will give I checkmate. So this move, rook takes S3 is a very tactical move. By the way, in the game, wide didn't take the rope, but wide here took the night, but here again, black took the bone. And after white 2k, we get a material imbalanced, but black is doing very fine here is even better because black has an extra bone, like has upwind for two rooks. But we also see how black can easily attack by spawns. So here, like also won the game. But in any case, I just wanted to focus on these roped AC3 is a very tactical move. Let's analyze another position. Here it is blood to play and hear black also took the night on S3. And in this case, if white takes a rook or the Wednesday exchange, and we don't see any forcing move by black. Black cannot win. In a few moments, there is no direct check made by an edit case. This idea of given the rope for the night is quite interesting and it's very common in these structures, in this bone structures. And the idea in this case would be as strategic sacrifice because here, black would just give material in order to, first of all, WAS bonds that can be easily attack. For example, after Wind Wave 5 or Quinta C7, we may also bring the rook. So this is a very interests in sacrifice, but black is not going in straight away. So this is a strategic move. Rook takes S3, in this case is a strategic move. It is not a tactical move here. In fact, this sacrifice is interesting, is not necessarily good. The position is quite complicated here. So it's a different idea than the first position. By the way, in this particular position, I just wanted to show that here wide didn't take the rook. And in fact here again, white follow this idea of finding force and move them blade, the very brilliant G5, a DAG in the night. And if the knight moves to create, for example, here we would have a checkmate. And after nitrate five white, follow this idea of plain force moves, rock. Dave's, we blend tool, you are checkmate. So this other idea then taken the rock. And here again, what didn't take the rock? Where blade a brilliant rock to age 1, the IDEA's to capture again on H5 and then give a checkmate. So these ideas that while played G5 group, they say five were very tactical moves because they were very direct, unblind to give a quick check made. Whereas in this case, the move rook takes history is a strategic move. By the way, let me clarify that. In this course we studied tactical ideas. There's no absolute rule about what a plane, tactical or strategic is better that will depend on the position and in fact, strategy and tactics sometimes they are correlated, does a very interesting code about Robert James Fisher, who was a former world champion, who said that tactics flow from a superior position. So whenever you have a great position, whenever you're all the pieces are very well-placed. It is more natural to find direct when it moves down when you have a strategically bad position. And last, let me remind you that tactical ideas, they also appear more easily Whenever you have conduct within business, a lot of conduct between PCs and ultimately tactical ideas, either they work or not. So if they don't work on the wars in opposition, then we need to do something else. So not all position will have tactical moves at work. So in that case, you will focus more on strategic ideas. Just to give one example in this position here it is like to play here black can definitely analyze some captures. There are actually no texts available here for black. Black is a DAG and despondency three, or this one before. But so far they are well-defended, does right here in this position, like my thing about ideas like improving the rook, bring the rock to this file in the game. Black also play the movie night wave 5, which is quite interesting to bring the night forward, to bring 1984, which is a square that cannot be controlled by appalling this case. So in this case, the night is going to be stable. So here black is playing more using strategic ideas. But in any case, as the position evolves, you will have typed eagle ideas that will appear. Remember the tactics involve short-term games in a position where a strategy is more concerned with factors that affect the position in the long-term. 8. Intro - Forks: Hi again. We're now going to study one of the most important, if not the most important tactic in chess, which is the fork. Now a forgive simply one single piece creating two or more threads normally attacks. Now let me clarify a few points. First is that a form is also known as a double attack. But as we'll see, there's a slight difference between the two are linear. So I'll tell you that we're going to mainly focus on the forks themselves. We're not going to focus on giving material in order to get a fork, to get a winning fork. Because these ideas that are called sacrifices, we're going to study them later in the course. With that in mind, let's get started. 9. Knight Forks: Hello again, and now we'll talk about night forks. So a night is great at forgiven, because while it attacks two pieces, those two pieces that are being attacked cannot attack the night bag unless those bridges are a night. So let's start with this position here. After the movie night with a five with you. How wide is a duck in two pieces which are too strong or basis? By the way, since the night is one of the weaker species, whenever night attacks, other business does a chance that those pieces are stronger than night. So this is a big threat. So in this case, the night is like in two rocks. The rocks are stronger than night and since they cannot attack the night back, in this case, we see that like is in trouble. For example, here, black cannot give a check with one of the rooks in order to then move the other rule. That would be great. But here it is not possible if we use this principle of finalizing forcing moves here, the moment I2C for is actually quite interesting. But here are wide. Instead of taking the rope here, why can at least play the mook 2 a2? And now we see that the rug that was being attacked on the two, now it is not a duct anymore. And now we still have this thread of taking either missing or F6. So here in this case, white will win. Material y would be nice change, for example, after, then we'll just take this rook and whitewater gain material in this position here, after blame the bomb 95, we give a check which is even more forcing than just a DAG in Iraq as we had in the previous case. And we also attack these broken V6. So in this case, we'll just gain material. Black has to move the king, for example, kinda D6. And here we would just gain a full rook. Now, as I discussed in the first position, whenever we play a double attack, for example, here in this position if blade the move 1985, it is very tempting because the night attacks to stronger pieces, but here, like can find a way to escape this fork. In this case, black has the rope D6, again, a force in moving because it gives a check after white kings move, for example, to have to then black and just move the rock and like saving the material so the position is still balanced. Now if the night attacks pieces that are of similar value, for example, in this case we have a bishop and a rook. So after the move 1985, the night is attacking these visual F6 and this rook. So here, Blackboard, simply move the rock and a low here. What can take the bishop, we will be changing business of roughly equal value. So here the overnight 35 is not necessarily a very strong move. It is a variable label. But why does not gain in a material advantage in this case, by the way, here in this position, like I could have also played the bishop to H4, given a check. After the king moves, then we'll just move the road. Now let's analyze very similar positions to illustrate ideas. In this case, if it was y to play. So here the 1985 would actually be very strong because in this case, the bishop is of very similar value to the night. The rock is stronger, but as we see those two business there are undefended. This bishop is not defended hours and not the rook. This part on the six actually, it's annoying the protection of the bishop because the rook cannot defend the bishop. So here, wide we're regaining material. For example, if black moves the rook, then we will just take. Also black doesn't have any tags to give in order to save one of the attack business. And if light plays a more visibility for to defend the rook instead of taking the rook in this case, which would also be good because we gave material here, we can even take the bishop. And we also see that here black doesn't have the Move measure up to the eight because there's an I there, the Mobius of two, the eight where we go to defend the rook pennies case. The bishop doesn't have that square up a little. And last, let me clarify a subtle point. We call this tactic a fork, although some dance for my colleague, Jack, in most cases, it is a double a DAG because one piece of ducks to basis, but sometimes we can have three or more pieces with one move. That's why I believe that a term for it a bit more accurate because it is more general, whereas double attack is as region on which we are tasked to PCs. So here in this position it is wide to play and hear white play the very strong wind wave five, very forcing move. And here, first of all, Windows 7 is not possible because we were just capture the queen. Kinda B7 is not possible because the square is controlled by the night and after kinda create will just take on F6. And we see this night is 14, actually the king, the queen, and the bishop. But in any case, after Blackmore flicking, then we'll just grab the stronger piece, which is the Quinn, not the bishop and wide would gain a significant material advantage. Similarity here after the move kinda C8, we have the night fork, night to B6, which attacks three pieces. And after the king moves, because we're given a check, again, we see how strong night for case because the 90s at Dagens rabies and the three pieces that are being attacked cannot attack the night. So here we'll just capture the stronger base, which is the Queen instead of the roof. And again, white would just when easily. In fact here of the window, a five black already resigned. So nine folks are very common and they are particularly strong when the 1930s again, stronger pieces or undefended business. And as usual, the more forcing forks are normally the better because we'll limit our opponent replies. 10. Queen Forks: Hi again. Another piece that can easily fork other pieces is a queen. The simple reason is that the Queen has a lot of activity. It can reach a lot of squares in the board. So it is very easy for the queen to attack RBCs. On the other hand, since the queen is very strong in value whenever the queen attacks other BCS, sometimes these basis, if they are defended, they are not even at risk of being taken because the Queen would not sacrifice yourself for a piece of wicker value. For example, in this position here, it is wise to play. And if white play the move Quinto H5, here we are attacking on F7 and on H7. On the other hand, we are not even unthreatening today Ganesh seven because after taking the bond, the rock would take back. But the idea to capture seven is stronger because here we have the bishop looking at on. So in this case, black has to do something. But for example, after the move G6, plug is defending. Although here what can play a stronger move that a quota played even before. So if we go back to the position here, we can play the movie when you have three. And again, we attack this Pantone F7, but we also attack the rock, which in this case is undefended as opposed to the bond on H7. So he had the rock is even stronger in value than upon, and it is also undefended. And here's one of the main points about the Queen forks. The queen normally is great when it attacks undefended pieces or when it threatens to give a checkmate because it's very strong evaluate so it can normally the lever checkmate pretty easily. So here it is position. Luckily, there's no way for black to defend. Black has to stop currIndex of seven Jack made, for example, after the move D5, then we can simply take on D6. There are other modes, but we can simply take on the six and now we actually keep on the idea of digging out of seven attack in the room and also attacking the bishop now, so this is just a lot of attacks in a position or after more like F6, why can simply just take the rook on when a lot of material. Let's take a look at this position here. Bloodshed normally develop the bishop to be seven, controlling this diagonal bar here if blood pressure move HCX, this may happen in an opening which is called the French defense, and this will be a very bad move, is a typical mistake in this position because here, black would take on whether black captors with the bishop or the bone is similar. We will just pay the move queen 24, and we would plan to give a check made on H7 and product rule here, one of the threads again is to give checkmate, not attacking obese. But again here we see that we have a queen fork and there's no way for black defense. So again, like we lose material, for example, after move, zCX will just capture the rook, unlike cannot defend or move the road, because we would just give a check made on H7 now. So the fork might look when, but it might not be because as usual we need to analyze our opponents reply for sure. We need to analyze if our opponent has foreseen moves or even very well-defended moves. Here the movie query for would be very tempting, particularly for Blaine quickly. So just say that we attack a night, we attack upon and women undergo attack rate. So this looks like a very nice for, but here, like can go back with the night to F6. First of all, the night Israel attacked anymore the 90s defendant. Seven and also actually in the night now is attacking the wind. So here black will be doing fine, will be defending this position. In fact, here, what has animal stronger move, which is also very forcing because we will just capture material and give a check which is a mortgage uptakes HL7, like hazards take otherwise black will be up and down and after day in, the bishop will play the move Quinto h5. So we'll give a check and we attack the night and kinda GATC on the move. And we get the night bug after these four with the MOOC window h5. By the way, the bishop takes H7 is our sacrifice. A temporary sacrifice will discuss a lot of us have us later, but I just want to show that in this case, the Quinto a for the direct fork did not work. But white can win the peace back after the MOOC window H5, and this is also a very common form. Now, the queen can attack pieces of wicker value. But in this case, we need to make sure that our opponent cannot defend them on there. Because otherwise, this MOOC might not be anything special. So here in this position, We're taking it from luck side Black played the very strong window F6 are dug in this bond on a four, on a DAG and this point on S3, this polymer forest being defended by the king, but we also have the night, so Windex and four is a threat and also taking upon, and there's no way for y to defend these two points at once. Here's what they move kinda C1, we will defend this bond, but we see that we cannot defend this bone. We have the rock and the night login, the queen. So here black is gaining material forgone these two points here will continue with more F5. And here black played a very good move, which is Windex. And the idea is that white can take this night, but black will just get the night bag because black is a tagging the nitrogen E3. Last another idea to use a queen fork is to force an exchange, in this case, an exchange of queens in order to get a woman ending. So here we would need to correctly evaluate an ending or x1 times if we have a viewed mutual advantage and we don't want to complicate the position would queens on the board, we will just go for our winnings change in this position here, Blackberry, they move when the G4 on here wide resigned, the players are two very strong layers. And the point is that we would force on exchange of queens because we're given a check and attacking the queen, white has many different options, but in any case, the exchange of currencies and avoidable. So here, if y takes on G4 after Index GIN draft due to stop kindred of three because black ones to collect this one. For example, after the move into F2, we would just play F3, again planning to capture this bond. And after kindred three, topping this idea law, what does play into D3 and this bond will just advance, for example, after akin to the dual, we will just play kindred. You do an advanced the bond and promote. Or similarly, if white plays are the more of like kinda have one, we would just exchange queens. And here we will just play kinda D4 and played a similar idea of F3. For example, after Endrew F2, F3. And we will get a very similar position, planning to either take this bond or to Blake in registry and promote the bond. So a queen can easily forget RBCs, but since it's very strong in value, those folks are normally strong whenever they target undefended pieces and also occur when fork might be a common idea in order to force an exchange of queens to reach a win-win or a barrier ending. 11. Other Forks: Hey, there, we have already analyzed night forks and when forks. So now it is time to evaluate if other pieces can fork. And in fact, rooks, bishops, the king, and bonds can fork, as we'll see. So we'll start with a rock. So Iraq normally has a lot of firepower. So we can imagine that it is quite easy for Iraq to attack two or more pieces. Let's start with a very impressive example. This is a game played between two for moral champions. And here in this position, which looks maybe a riddle on the 17 moves were played. But here we can already see that these 1985 is undefended. This video is protected, but let's imagine that this video is not protected. We might place our rock here on U5 and attack both pieces. This is what an answer. And here he played a very rare more because here player retreating move, which is not very common, particularly in the first moves of a game. But here the move is particularly strong because again, it forces the queen out of this diagonal on which it protects the bishop. So here, an unpaid the more bishop to D1 scenario option drag, drag the queen was replayed in Mumbai job to have one. But here I would play them of Queen does it do, which might try to exchange queens or even to support this night. But after the movie job to the one, black doesn't have the window C2. But luckily the move queen to D3, which is probably the move that Romney had foreseen because he's a very strong player. But here he missed another very strong move on attacking move, which is a mook to E3. So play rock 25 straight away would not do a lot, but the move Route 33 would again attack the queen and force it to another square where it would not defend the bishop. So here, actually the only movies to take this bond. But after the moral 35, we have this double attack. And in fact here already resign because black is going to lose a piece. These two pieces cannot defend each other, like my trade queens 4s, but then is double threat. This fork will remain. That's why white will win obese bishops, as we know, they control many squares as well, so they can easily fork pieces. And we start again with another more complicated positions. We've already seen many forks, so that's why I wanted to see more complex physicians. Now, here in this position, black has a queen against a rock. But on the other hand, we see that this policy 7 is very strong. Advantages to promote this point, y will be the one having the advantage. But if you're white plays, a move like vision takes one blinding to promote, then light will stop this one. And here black has a significant material advantage, but the posterior is still complicated because of this bond. But this is not as clear as what was played in the game. In the game here, white play them, move visual 26, which is very strong. So we always need to keep in mind this idea of doing more than one thing. So in this case, we are attacking the queen and we also plan to promote. So in fact, in this position already like resigned because there's no way to stop that bond from promoting and wide will have an extra rope. Now let's talk about bonds. Bonds they can fork. In this case, ponds can only control. Two squares maximum. Does y upon, can only attack two pieces, not more than two pieces. And in fact, the a and H bonds, which are also called the root bonds, they are actually the only pieces that cannot fork because they can only control one square. They can only attack one square. For example, here this pollinators, Evan, can only add W6. Let's say this point on A2 can only attack b3. That's why ponds can fork except the a and H bonds. And in this position here it is y to play. And these Night seems to be hanging. But here white takes the night. Then after the five, we will get a fork because this bond will attack the rook and the queen. Black will gain a rope for an item is position, although here white my dried taken some bonds. Then here black has a much better position if non-union after taking the drug. For example, if white here takes only four, again, if we just take a look at 14 moves, and then here we can take on a one. And then if we right-click here, we have this fork. But in this case, this fork can be prevented so far because you have the mobility one taking defense, the bishop. But actually here we have another strong force in mortgages rock to a fade, and here the bishop cannot stop the tech. This is another tactic that we'll study later, which is a pin and after the k moves, then here we'll have a Jack made in the game. Didn't take the night. After rook two E2, black is upon up and having a better position and one after 20 moves. And last again, can fork since it can withdraw money squares is sometimes can take more than one piece. On the other hand, the king, normally if we develop it early, it might become under attack. So it is quite dangerous as a general rule to develop it. And the King tends to come more active in the ending. So forks made by kings, they might be more common in endings or impositions on which the king cannot be attacked easily. For example, in this position, we still have some busy on the board. Wise king money for is quite centralized party. It cannot be checkmated easily. And in fact here after the move kinda D5, we have a very nice fork because actually these King is a DAG in many business. Some of the money funded by some of them are not. In fact here, white will win material, for example, like cannot lay the mook to be seeks to defend the bishop. Because while we'll just take the rook or after group to C8, we will capture the bishop. So here White who is exchanged down in this position will get material back. And in fact here, these are also two very strong players here, black played a very interesting protocol dry, which is the more bishop to a four. Again, like lay down an active, unforeseen move on here. In fact, white could have taken on a four and then take the rook. So here what would be having an extra piece, an extra night. But we might see that this one can be a bit dangerous. For example, after the murder of three white has to be careful what cannot play a move like night we do planning to stop this bond because here Blackboard play F2 on this point will promote, UM, library, the one winning. But here what you could have taken on the five, and the idea is that first of all, we are controlling the spawn. And after F2, we would have these night fork with a check. And why would we win? And instead of F2, Broglie wide was a bit afraid of kindred five, trying to bring the king in any case why it still has a one in position, but probably why I didn't want to complicate matters. And if we go to this position here, what actually took the rock and after taking the visual, we have equal material so far. But after the moment I take C5, we see that while he has an extra bond, why it has a Moroccan King and in fact, white jazz one after a few moves. So this was also a very good practical decision by wide to go for this position or it is much easier to play. All right, so as we can see, all pieces except the NH bonds can fork. Although these folks might be less common than night and green forks, they might happen in your games. So now it is time to practice what we learned. 12. Activity - Forks: Okay, so test tactics are really something which is very practical. You will master them by practicing positions, might learn in patterns. That's why we'll practice a lot throughout this course. And in the activities, we'll start with simpler position first, and then we'll move on to much harder procedures by the end of each activity. So let's start with the first one. Here, this black to play and try to find a willing fork in this position. In the second position it is why to play. And please also find our union fork here. In this third position. Again, we're starting with a simpler positions here, these black to play. And you should find a way in 4k for black. Here it is Y2 play and usually try to force a win in form. So here you don't see any 4k immediately tried to find any forcing moves that might lead to our infarct. In the exposition here, we have a very complicated position. It is black to play. Let me know what would happen after blood, please remove Bishop takes E7. In this position here, white is a bit down, but wide can get that piece back. So let me know how can wide. When a piece in this position. Here we have another position. The exercises are getting harder each time. Here in this position, it is like to play and hearing fact that black resigned while it has many more bonds, like he's pretty much forced to date decide because if like pacing of kinda D7, then after wind drift seven, we would get a Tech made a drafter quinone CXO community aid like resigned. But the main question would be, what would y play after the move night takes E7. In this position. I would like to ask you, how would you continue here as white? In this was June Here it is. Why to play Mad wide resigned. So again, dispositions are harder, so you will need to evaluate more. And first of all, if white doesn't capture this bishop, then black will have a lot of material advantage by having a rocky beach overnight against Aqua when not to mention that these bonds are going to fall. So here, the main question is, what will black play after the move? Queen takes S3 and let me give you a hint here. Remember to look for forcing moves first, because it's going to be much easier for you To calculate the variations. And here in this last position, Black had to play by black instead resigned as well. So find out why the black resigned here. First of all, white has a huge module advantage if black doesn't take is rook. So it will all be about taking this rook. And then how can white force something here in order to gain an advantage? 13. Activity Solution: All right, So hope that these activities will useful. Don't worry, if some positions you find them hard. The main bond is to practice, to really put the effort in order to learn. Some positions might be easy or not very hard, while others are quite hard. So don't worry about that. Let's start with the first position. Here. We need to find a fork. Moves like nitrate forward a DAG the bishop and respond. But this one is defended and white can just move or protect the bishop and refine. In any case, the main point here is Quinn Dre five, which is a very nice fork because we give a check and we attack the bishop. And there's no way for Y2 defended. By the way, this is something that we call an opening drop. An opening drop is basically a position on which we invite our opponent to go wrong to make a mistake. And this comes from the opening move D4, which is called the Queen's pound game, and hear somebody would happens in the urban, both sides have lots of options. One of them is night to F6 and after bishop to G5, which is not the most popular move, bottom of that can be played here. Black also complied many moves, for example, E6, but I wanted us to try this move C6, which sets this drop. If wild place they're very narrow login E3. And here we get this position or oblique when Gray five, and we give this fork when an obese here in this position wide actually has many options. What can even play anymore like H3 would not be a very good move. But even here, the point is that window a five-year would not be very strong because in this case the fork doesn't bring any material again, because here y can play queen to D2, stopping this tag and defending the bishop, or even the more visual 32 here, what can play also many other moves. C3 is an idea to stop the check or even to develop a night developed in the 1980s case for example. So different the bishop, but also here again, Quinn 25 is always wrong because we can either stop the check or put up when or night there. The second position is another very common open interrupt, which appears after the move E4, which is the king's Pong game, and after C5, again, black has many replies. Here we get a Sicilian defense. And after night with three D6, S3 here of that pays him overnight to F6, which adapts this one. Here. White come blade is move visual to do. And if lagged take this one, which is a very bad move, we get the position they ask you to solve here. What has the Move going to a four, which gives attack is very similar tactic. And dogs the night here instead of a bishop here, what will so when obese in this third position here, the move of nitrogen three is particularly strong because here these two rooks are attacked, and finally, they cannot even defend each other. So here black will gain a full rook in this case after the fork. So this is just completely went in for black. White is a very strong player for moral champion. And here white dried, actually uninteresting dry in a loss position. Again, blade, a forcing move. We have six, our DAG and the rook. So here, black simply move the rock because these threads will remain. And again, white dried a DAG and another rock. And here, like played very well because here black just again move the rock. And these four remains. So here in this case, black will gain a full rook. Here we could have also considered a forcing move, like taking this night. Because after taking this night, we can near day here, here, but here Blythe would only be obese hub, for example, after Daguerre new one instead of a full rook in the other variation where we play them overlook to be set in this position after up to be seven, we keep this double attack and we just gain a full rook in this position. Again, it's about finding if there's anything foreseen. And here, after dig in and F6 like hazards, AIC, and after night to the seven, we get this actually very difficult night fork on which light will have to move the queen and then what will gain the exchange after taking on a fate. This position is quite a very crazy position here. Why these planning to evacuate? A very nice technique after up-to-date, for example, Laplace in Iran, the move here we just give a checkmate because the bishop is controlling the square. Here, black might dry HCX, for example, to give a square to the king. Well, after root dx, dx, why'd he has a lot of material for the queen. White has a rockabilly overnight. So why it has a much better position here, but also in the game like dried Bishop Jackson seven Monday here. After the more bishop, the default, we get this fork. We attack the king and the queen. So this is quite important. After Bishop takes seven, this rock on the aid is a duct, but we still need to find, if we have, again other forcing moves. And you have that the mortgage of the default, black took the bishop. And after Dagan, we get Daniel position on which white is an exchange up like gravels or dried here F6, because this rope is still being attacked. But here, while we just take the win and after digging the rule, we get an up position on which why does Upon up. But also very importantly, white has much more active basis. Disrupt might come to the one or do we won? I'm like is just suffering with most of the switches on the eighth rank. So this is just much better or winning for white. In the next position. The main tactic is that after dignity five, we will get this fork with the bone. But here we need to play I greatly because after taking an 85 here, like can exchange routes. And after dig in, we would just take 25 modified first exchanges rooks. Then after Queen takes f, takes E5, we will just get this fork, the game continued kinda C5 and actually does quite important after digging R6, this coin is protected by the bone white got the bees back, and the mitral position, while it still has multiple vantage and wide won the game in the next position after dig your knee seven, white has a very direct fork. After Quinta D5, we just had died the night and the king. And we're also looking at this rook. So here white will gain a material bandage after, for example, kinda fade. We would just take the rook either with a rock or with the queen. And why it has an extra exchange and more bonds. So white will win this very quickly. In the next position, we see that this idea to give high-tech made after the either kinda S3 or kindred three. But after kindred three, like and dry country one and try to escape. So this position is actually not winning for white. But after kindred three, we get this double threat of taking group. And given a checkmate. That's why in this case, blood cannot defend this position. For example, after the MOOC to be four, we will give a checkmate. On the last two positions. They're worried about calculating. If white takes a bishop, then we give a check on the one Kenji do is the only logical move. If window 1, we will just come to the Quinn. And here we get another Fauci move, night dx. And here also white has two moves. After kinda D3, we get these night fork. And after game draft 3, we get this form with the rook. So here we attack the king and the queen. And they're always defended. If the rock was not defended by the night and a four, then y would just come to the rock. But here white will just be lost after taking the rock. And night takes lag is just a piece up. And the last position was really tricky after dignity five. We have this idea of given material here. In this case, we only give upon, but as we'll see later when we analyze sacrifices, sometimes we're going to give a lot more. But here again, wide only has to pay for it and moves because otherwise black is an exchange have. And here after the move G6, first of all, if black takes, then we would just give a fork, unlike doesn't have many squares for the king. Hcx and examiner controlled can radiate. We also have this fork that leaves us with kindred Jade. But again, we play our forcing move G7. And if candidate we get this forgone is seven again. And after kindred seven, here was the last strong move, which is to promote and give a check. Even if we sacrifice the spawn year again after taking it, we get this fork. White will get the rook. And when descending, for example, after Endrew F seven, we just take the rook. And this is when for white. 14. Outro - Forks: It is when we started forks very deeply because now we have a very solid foundation study. Other tactics so well under forks can be done by any BCE, although they might be more common with knights or queens, as we'll see, other tactics cannot be done by OBCs, but force can be done by LP's, Even my bonds, except the a and H bonds. And remember when analyzing forks to always evaluate the opponents replies, this applies actually do any tactic. So folks might not be winning, sometimes might not even be strong if our opponent has a strong reply. And last, remember to find good conditions to make the fourth work. Normally, these are attacking undefended pieces or using obese to fork stronger pieces, or given a check while attacking another piece, it is now time to move on to the next section. 15. Intro - Pins and Skewers: Hi again. We're now going to study bins and skewers. As we'll see, these are two of the most fundamental tactics that are also very related to each other. Similar to Forbes, they are mainly about attack in more than one piece in order to gain material. But as we'll see, they can also be used to limit or to worsen our opponents species. So let's go back to a chessboard. Has diabetes. 16. Pins: Hey there. So what's the bin? Bin is just one piece that a duck's two pieces that are in line. And the first piece that is being attacked is the weaker piece. I know a man sound a bit complicated, but we're going to see some positions. And you're going to see that is pretty simple to understand. So first of all, we're not talking about lines were talking about the the rungs, files or diagonals. In this case, seems to be these have to be aligned. We need a piece that can adapt them throughout a line. That's why we need a long-range piece here. So in this case, a bean can only be done by a rook, a bishop, or a queen, which are the long range species. Let's imagine that we have this position in front. Here it is y to play. And white could actually been two pieces here. First, by playing the bishop to be five. And we can see that this bishop is looking at this night and the gain as well. So we see that here. The two b's are aligned. And the first piece that is being a duck, is a piece of rigor value. So at night is weaker than a king. And in this case, moving the night is simply illegal. So we just cannot move the night because the bishop cannot capture the king. And this is also called an absolute been. But honestly, names here doesn't matter too much. We just want to understand the idea that in this case, we're attacking two pieces that are in line. In this case, additionally, there's a threat. So here, if black plays and the random model, Boehner talking about a threat, that means a move that we plan to play that is drawn. So let's imagine that here black, blame him over like 86. And here we actually threaten to take on C6. And after taking, we capture with the bishop. And in fact now we have another tactic that we saw, which is fork. So here we would gain quite a lot of material. Here, like a baby Jabba the 7 to stop the check. But here we can take the rook and gay material. So in this case, the age of 35 has a threat. So the main goal here is to gain material. And here actually black can simply break the bin by putting another piece in between, which is a bishop. So here, the night wouldn't be binned anymore. So here, like my blend to capture later or even leaving the night there. So here black would be break in the bin. So this more visual 35 would be in the night, but like and simply blemish of the D7 and get a good position. Similarly, in this position, white can also play the move visually G5. And we see that here these night. Now Canada actually move because if it moved, then what would capture the queen? So for example, if we play a move like nitrogenase, which is very bad, then it will just come to the green and white board game a deal. So similarly, black here can break the bin. And after Egypt is seven, the game continues. Another way to try to break the beam will be to attack the piece that is spinning. So here black might think of ideas of ln H6. Or even G5. Although in this specific position, those mode might not be very good for strategic reasons. But the idea is either to interpose, obese, to break the bin, or to attack the piece that is spinning. And another idea of breaking the beam is to create a counter thread. But we'll see in the last position. Now let's analyze this position here, this white to play. And we see that widescreen is adapt. So here the queen has many squares to go, but one of them, windows E3 is another typical lunder made in the opening here, black has visual to before. And we see that the queen is pinned here, like it's just simply winning material because white cannot move the Quinn, What can capture the visual? But then after 90 days before Blackboard Uganda, significant material vantage. Let's take a look at the null position. Here, we see that these bishop is binned. And here white blade very strong before and after these move. Horrified, like resigned because Y we'll just take the rook or capture the bishop. The bishop doesn't move. So here, What is using this tactic in order to attack the bin base? Now another idea of using the bin is not to adapt the beast that has been directly sometimes, but by being a piece, we can neutralize it. In this position here. Bond is binned. It will play a more like D5, planning to create more pressure on this bone black wouldn't be able to capture because it would just be an illegal more because the rock is on the file login at the game. This mood board actually not be very bad. Why does trying to put pressure on F6? But here blind my dry to exchange some pieces wide in any case has an advantage here because y has an extra bond. But white has something better here since the d phi square is now available for wide, because upon RefSeq is pinned here, why can play them overnight to G5, which actually for the king and the rock, which is a very typical night fork, similar to some of the forks that result. And here in fact, black array resign because after the move kindred 7, we will just capture the rook and get a significant material advantage. So here, why this been the bond, not too bad in order to gain squares in this case, to neutralize that bond. Let's now analyze a more complicated position on which we have quite a lot of pins here. Here in this position it is. Why do play? But in any case, we can see that these two points are pinned. So here, like cannot capture the night. The Queen is looking at the King. This is an absolute been soak up during will be legal. And here this Barney six, if it captures the night, then y would simply get a rook Iraq and gain material advantage. And the fact that these two points are pinned, allowed to place a very powerful night here and a five. Otherwise night wouldn't be there because it will be captured. And here what I could do with a very strong queen to H6 does blind dogs by Jack made using this bin. Again. Here if y dx, we will just give a checkmate. And here in fact we have a different idea. Now, the bond can take the night. But here what we're just again, a lot of material after the move rope to D3, which is given a checkmate, if like, doesn't take the rook. But here y would just get a winning advantage. In order to stop the made in the game, glycogen group takes a five and after each update, again, this point is pinned. Again, taking here is not very good. So here, why does God an x-ray exchange and God advantage? And last, as usual, we need to always evaluate forcing moves, our forcing moves, but also our bonds for the moves. So here I want to show an open-end drop, which is on the coenzyme bid, which is a very common opening. So here after the for which we have the Queensland game, and after D5, C4, here we have the Queen's gambit. And after E6, night to S3, night to F6, which of the G5 we are now opening stages or many moles are possible. Breach of duty seven is the most common move. But here black my dry. A very nice drop here. The movie night be to D7. And again, we see that this night is pinned. So in this case, the night has less control over the central squares because normally it cannot move. But here in this case, if we blend to get this one here, definitely five would actually be very bad because you're black can actually take the night. Again, we need to evaluate, at least for a few moves, our point is forcing moves. And here, if I take the queen, then here we have another force in Egypt before tag. And the only move is to play queen to the dual and to follow in a bin. So here black and desc the queen. And then take the night. And as a result, like gets an extra piece. Or even here, since we have been like, doesn't need to hurry black and even take this visual and later capture the queen. So in this case, since black has these tactical resource, the night on F6 is pinned by these Poland D5 cannot be taken, at least not in this particular position. That's why in this position it is very common to play a movie like E3 and this case, now the idea to take on the five is more serious because now the king would have a square, for example, the black race, any random move like A6 here, we might plan to take and does case the nice binned. Because after digging and D5 and taken on the aid after visibly four, we can just plaguing the veto. So after E3 here, black will normally make the bin with the more miserably seven and the gaming we continue. So opinions are very common tactic, but it can only be done with a bishop, a rock, or a queen are normally, a bin is used either to gain material by attacking the beast that is binned. But it can also be used to neutralize the B-cell is pinned. And last, remember that our pin can sometimes be broken. We might try to attack. The Baeza is spinning or remapped place another BCE in-between the two pieces that are in the bin. Or we may create a counter thread like in the final position that we analyzed. 17. Skewers: Hey again, and now we'll talk about skewers. Now a skewer is very similar to a pin. Here we are also attacking two pieces that are in a line in a wrangler file or a diagonal. But in this case we are attacking the stronger piece first. And when that piece moves, the stronger base, which normally has to move, it will expose the bigger piece. And this will normally lead to again a material. Remember that in a bin we attack the weaker piece first or we neutralize that bees. So when we've been, we either plan to gain material or to neutralize that piece. So some dance or beanies not forcing some decimal might be obese. And what might not blend today, good. Whereas a skewer is much more force in, in the sense that we are just a diagonal strong herpes that has to move. And after it moves, we will capture another piece and gay material. Let's start with the Fosbury basic position here. What would play them overlook to E1? Leave I check. So we're attacking the king and his case, we see that the King has to move here since we're attacking the Qin, we might also call this an absolute secure. Here after the key moments, then it would just expose the rook and we will just capture the rook and gain material advantage. In this very similar position where we have the king on E6 instead of E5. Here are the more rookie one would not be. Particle is strong because here black can defend a rook. So here actually this move would not be as cure, strictly speaking, now let's analyze more advanced positions. Here it is. Why do play an black just playgroup to be aid and completely miss whites idea, which is a force in idea wide, took on the six, which gives the exchange. But after Daikin, the rook, black doesn't have anything better, like my twice. Another foresee move like a DAG in the bishop. But here what we'll just play the more bishop to a four, what has or the most badly chapter four is good enough. Nif and in the rope and wide will be a piece up. And after Daikin drug, we have these secure with the bishop. So we give a check and again has to move and his note able to defend the rooks who after a movie like into the seven, we will just take the rogue and in the end, wide is obese Up in the game after the move rotate D6, like resigned. In this was the John here we have nothing more than a former world champion who missed a very basic tactic, like just pay them off. Dwight seven, I'm completely missed. And other forcing idea by wide here white plays a move D5. And in fact, like already here, resigned. The main IDEA's, first of all, the night has to move because the 90s mean adapt. And after the knight moves, let's say to a five or 25. Here we have the more miserable to be five and we get another secure. So first of all, the bishop cannot be taken. There's no way to place a night in between because we have the bone. And after the queen moves as say Quinta B7, we would just take on the aid. And when an exchange, now skewers can sometimes be escaped. One idea is to give a check with the beast that is being adapt and then move the other piece so we have to be attacked. We move the first one with a check or we are threat, and then we move the other bees. Another idea is to capture the piece that is covering. And the third idea is to block that secure. That is to board our base in-between. Let's take a look at this example here. Loved jazz played a more visual to A6. And here we have a skewer because the queen is being adapt. If the queen moves, then here lab would just cover the rook. And when an exchange does I write my thing about ideas on how to escape their score? First of all, the bishop cannot be taken. The piece that is current cannot be taken because the rock is defending the bishop. Secondly, these queen cannot play any intermediate moves, any strong thread, or given in check. And that leaves us with the third option, which is to pour a base in between. And here why it actually has two options. White County, the blade, the move, nitrogen four. And finally now we have a bin because now this 90 C4 is pinned. At least we avoid losing the exchange. And the second option is to be the more C4 which was played in the game. And here this one LC4 is also pinned, but here we don't have this cure anymore. So secures are similar to pins. Sometimes they're called reverse pins. But here we have the stronger piece that is being attacked first because of that, secures are normally more forcing than bins. And similar to pins, secures can also sometimes be escaped. 18. Activity - Pins and Skewers: All right, So let's practice a little bit. Again. We're going to warm up a little bit and then he's going to get harder and harder. So let's start with the first position here. How would you continue as white? In the second position from the same game? Here it is wide to play and wide played the move Bishop 25, check. So why did black resign after the move measure of 25? In the next position wide, just pay the bishop digit 5, which pins the queen, because again it's on the eight. And here black resigned. So why did black resigned here? So it is basically about finding out what happens after we take on G5, because otherwise, wide will just capture the queen, which is pinned here received that whites Quinn is binned because the king is an F2 and the robots in a fade. So how can white try to escape from the spin? It is wise to play and let me know how can wide, when material here. In this position, it is why to play again and wide continue with the bishop takes E6. So what's the point of these morph? The next position we're taking it from luck side, blood played the move rope to be four. So what's the idea behind these more? In the next position, wide play the movie. Rook takes the five. I would also like to ask you, what's the idea behind that move? In this position, you should find a willing tactic for white. So you should definitely find some enforced in here because white is obese down. So try to find something that gives wide a material gain. And last position, definitely not an easy one. It is wide to play, unusual, tried to find a way to exploit this, been broke on the three, we see that this room has been because this queen is looking at the queen on B5 and led me already tell you that you should not move this bishop on G5, which is being adapt. 19. Activity Solution: All right, so let's check the solutions. In the verb position, we see that Y disappears down wide, cannot give checkmate quickly. So here, what we'll have to recover the piece with the movement takes a five and we see that we have an absolute been because these Pantone 6 cannot take the wind because of the rock. And here, although we have equal material, we see that black skin does not look as safe as white skin. And in fact, the second question that I asked you is the same game just 13 months later. And we see again how blacks king is more exposed. And these forcing more B35 test plans too, capture the queen. And here black resigned because after taking the bishop will just give a check. And we get these secure within the queen. Ungainly. A huge material advantage. Also here, if black moves the king, then we would just, we're gonna capture the queen here. And here is more than enough because of the position. But just wanted to mention that even here, they, they move quint 36 forest would be even stronger because after the game moves, window FCT is not possible because we capture. And here we just take the queen and then we get the bishop. Soc window is CX is even better. But in any case, the position is just completely winning for white. In the next position, we got this Brian mortgage of digit five and allowed the bishop is not protected. Again like Haskell, take the bishop, otherwise, we'll lose the queen. And after digging the bishop, we have another bin. And in fact, we have been on a fork, so we have this night fork because the knight is forgiven making and the queen, and we're using the bin. So remember that one of the ideas of the pin is not to capture the pisa has been bad to gain a square. So in this case, we are gaining basic square in order to be able to fork the king and the queen. And here black has to move the king, and then y will just capture the queen and gain an advantage. So in the next position, whites position looks desperate because blood is going to come to the Queen. But here what has the very interesting group to the eight? And now we have another pin, because now the rook cannot capture the queen and the black captures the rook here, then wide should be more than fine here because let's see, after a window of seven, we might even give a check and we'll get this fork we gain upon. So if you saw the movie route to the aid will then body, if you saw the movie Quinto edge for that was built into the game, then I'm amazed because here, like Beta, very pretty move here, black is exploiting that bin in order to gain the square because now the queen cannot capture the queen I. In this case, we also have a fork because after the check, we will capture the queen. So the king has to move. And then we just captured a queen and gain a materials landed in the game after the move quint wage for white resigned. The next position. We can see that the spin is quite unpleasant actually. We see that this rope is pin in the night and here white play, very well played the simplest way of winning the piece, just to conceive five, I like it because it's forcing. And here, like has taken with the bishop and after group to be five white. We'll just, when this piece. Like dried R2P to C8 root e to C8. But after taking a C5, taken as F5, we see that white has a material vantage, a queen, and a night for two rooks. And actually after the movie night 35, black resigned. Also possible here was a move rope to be five. But possibly why didn't want to complicate matters? Because here, why do you have to start calculating after the bishop to A6? So Beach objects E5 is much simpler. The next position again, we see an amazing move. Bishop take spawn, and if blood doesn't take, will be upon down. And after taking, the main point is to play them off C5 and we get this pin wide, got an advantage like dried D5 to complicate matters. But after taking on the five library, they move room 307. And actually we have a funny story here. Gear polymers mobile phone rang and he lost the game because he was not allowed to use a mobile phone during a game. But in any case here, why can continue with more nitrogen for again, exploiting the spin and wide will gain an advantage. Similarly, if lack place and move Windows 8 here, we keep on exploiting this pin by blamed him overnight to the 4. By the way, here, tactics are really about being very precise. So here, the natural login move night we have four would be in the rock. Here. Like has a very nice move which is root 2 F7. And we see that now, now this night is actually pinned because after taking only six, we will get this tag. So here it is definitely much better to play night to D4 and avoid this idea. And if light tries to hold the position with array looks pretty shaky. Here, why can simply take on E6 and again, keep on exploiting this bin. And white will gain a significant material advantage in the next position here, black has to be a bit careful because white is just blending a check. And then if I check mate, That's why normally here forcing Moser grade unblock paid a very nice root to be 4, which is been the queen. So the only way to escape that being is today the rook. And now black gives a check and we get this nice cure. So after the key moves, then we just capture the queen, unblock one shortly afterwards. By the way here, the main point of the group to be for is to bring the queen to before. Because if the queen is on C4 here, we would not be material after the move window d4 because white skin can definitely going in the next position here, Black, who is again a formal champion. We see how sometimes even very strong barriers can fall for very simple tactics. Here, blood paid him trying to adapt this night, which is quite annoying. But this fails horribly because after the move rotate C5, because here, like cannot capture the rook. First of all, if Quinta D5, we get this night fork. And we see that this night is pinned in this case. Because after 1965 would just give a judgment in the game after Queen create here why it took another born Laughter OK, here, because we still have this tactic. And disposition being two bonds down, Caspar of resigned in the next position here black. I actually just took an irony 6, which is not a good move because here white has a very nice clean edge five check. And if kin da displayed in the game, we have Bishop 25. We have this very nice skewed toward the queen is supporting the bishop and the game continued, but wide will just get an idea of the vantage. Y will get acquainted for two pieces. And here after Queen H5, like has another dry, which is G6, but here white, we'll just take with the bishop. This is an important point taken with, with the bishop. And African 2D eight, we get a very similar position because if white takes with the queen after came to the aid, then we see that this bishop would not have any support software Bishop 25 languages captured the ratio. But in any case after Queen Ridge 5 with correct lay wide will gain when using the skewer. And the last position was really hard. We have here a very amazing move, night to the fore, trying to exploit this being saw, the queen is defending this rook. Ungroup takes is not possible because the rocks been here and the game continued when to D7 and then here, wide capture the rook and God, an advantage. Why does an exchange up four upon the position is still a bit complicated, but y has an advantage after now edX D5. And here again, white blood precisely rope to the one because these night was binned. For example, if here rupee one would be a very bad more because after Daikin, we cannot capture when the night. Because Blackboard to come to the queen. And after dig in on F3, black will just capture the night. Now another idea here was to really move Quinto A6, trying to support the rock. And here, Locke's idea was to move the bishop and then play the more bishop during four. Again using the spin because we see that black cannot break the bean easily. And also here black cannot take the bone and B3 because after taking a misery, again, we see how black cannot capture the night because of the pin after breach of duty for then here, why do we like in when the exchange? So this was a pretty nice move. By the way, here in this position, if wide move the bishop, actually blacks idea to break the bean was to play a move like roped D5, which is very nice because if white captures rook, then blood will come to the Quinn. And otherwise here, like would you break in the bin and doing fine? 20. Outro - Pins and Skewers: So we have studied two fundamental tactics, which are pins and skewers, similar two forks, they involve attack in more than one piece. And the main point about these is that normally attack in one piece, one piece will not be enough in order to gain material because our opponent can move or defend that piece, but attack in more than one piece might complicate decided that defends much more. Pins on skewers have similar points because they are both about attacking two pieces in one line. And because they involve ranks, files, or diagonals, they can only be done by bishops, rooks, and the queen. And the main difference is that in the pin we are attacking weaker piece first. Whereas in this cure, it is the strongest piece that is being attacked first. Because of that in general, scores are more forcing. So whereas a skewer will normally lead to an advantage unless the opponent can escape it. A pin is not necessarily always drawn. For example, if we don't threaten to capture the weaker piece straight away. 21. Intro - Discovered Attacks and Checks: Welcome again. We are now going to learn two of the most common tactics, which are discover attacks and discover checks. These reductive are very related. And in fact, we can even consider a discovered check as a specific case of our Discover attack. Will also learn two of the most forcing tactics in JS, which are actually specific cases of discovery checks that are called the double-check and the women Let's get started. 22. Discovered Attacks: Hey, there. And now we're going to talk about discovered attacks. Now the idea about the discovered tag is pretty simple. We just move obese and allow another piece to attack. This attack can be a threat to capture a piece. It can be a check that we'll see in the next lecture. And it can also be a major threat. So let's start with a position to seed might more easily. This is actually a position that we saw when we talk about forks here in this position, wide blade, the move bishop to the one. Don't worry if you don't remember. And the ADA actually was to create another tactic by placing a rock on E5, black contingent quintile D3. And after Route 33, queen takes, we just get a fork after the move, rope to E5. But in any case, this whole sequence of moves started with the more mesh up to the one, which is an attack by the Rakai one after moving the bishop, only two. So here the rock is created, that is covered attack here in this case, they discover data itself is not lethal. Here's the fork that winds material for wide, but we can already learn a few things from this MOOC. First of all is that these are pretty forcing more because we attack something. And secondly, since we need to move a piece and allow another piece to attack, these can only be done by long-range bases, by a rock, a bishop, or a queen. The piece that moves that allows these Camera Doug can be any piece, but the peace doing there, discover a DAG is a real coffee shop or a queen. Now this idea becomes particularly strong when we create more than one attack. On one way to do that is by creating another attack with the piece at most. So let's take a look at this position. What can move the bishop, for example, to C1? And these might not be a bad move because here we are in this bond with the queen and the bishop. So we threatened to take the bond. And additionally, after taking the bond, if we capture with the bishop, will create a fork on the queen and the king, but he a black and play. The more D5. And so far is stopping this idea. So now we only have the queen login and E6. Now, since this idea of taking 16 is so strong, we can create another threat. And remember that we need to look at force involves even if the low, ridiculous. So here we can consider move like Michelle to H6 is mobile, is particularly strong because here we are attacking on G7 because the rock and the bishop are attacking the visual on D7. And we also plan to take on E6. And remember when we discussed about forks, and I said that they are not always considered double attacks. Here we have a double a DAG because we haven't attack on E6 and E7 graded by Sarah pieces here. In fact, what has four pieces involved? So that's why this is a very interesting use of the discovered a DAG to attack more than one thing. And here in fact, already like resigned because the threat of taking on E6 is too powerful. So like our take the bishop because we were just capture. And when the queen, we cannot play the five, because here we will just capture the bishop and the seven. And the other idea might be to dry root of seven. But here we can take on E6 and we still have this fork and a bin. So this is just too bad for black. Now in addition to attacking business, we can create other threads and checkmate is definitely a powerful threat. So here in this position, these Night seems to be pinned because this rook can capture a form. But actually here, why played the fantastic move 1985? Remember that pins, sometimes they can be escaped if a great account of thread, and here white is doing that. And also here why is creating are discovered attack. And the main bone is that we plan to give this very nice checkmate with 1987. For example, after taking on a four would just give a jag made. And again here black is overloaded because black cannot deal with these two threads. For example, if the king goes to G7, we just capture the rule. And here they are. The idea was a dry road to C7 to stop night V7. But here y would just take the rock when the exchange and having extra material is going to be an easy win. So after the moment either D5, like resigned. Another idea is to use the discovered a DAG in order to rub material. Here in this position, blood played a very strong group dates B3, we are capturing a bond and we create our discovery attack on the rock y dx. We just give a check. And we also create a fork on the king and the bond. This is in fact what happened in the game. I'm like Golan advantage. In any case here I want to remind something about pretty much any tactic. We also need to evaluate our opponents replies unless we give checkmate, which ends the game, we need to see if our opponent has something and in particular some reinforcing. So here we should definitely analyze the window, the eight by white. So why leaves a check? So we need to move the king. We only have two squares here, G7 or H7, and actually even play them off kingdom age seven. This will be very bad because you're what gives another check. And now defends the rook. And after the game moves, y will just capture the root. So here it is important to note that black has the move kindred G7 and still keeps the idea of taking or F2. And there's no way for wide to defend the rook and grab a black stroke. So with that in mind, in this position, if Black had upon G7, for example, this whole idea of a discovery Jack would be just a blender because while we'll give the check on H4 and if Andrew OK, So Discover dogs are not always good, pretty much like any tactic, unless we have a check made. All their tactics, we need to evaluate them and see if our opponent has a strong reply or a counter attack. So discover ducks graded by long-range business. That's, that is bishops, rooks and the queen. They are an interesting way to try to force an advantage. And they are particularly strong when more than one thread is graded. 23. Discovered Checks: Hey, there. So we already analyzed discovered attacks. And when we create a discovered tacked on one of those attacks is a jack, we call these add discovered. Check. If I go back to one of the first lectures when I talked about the key defining political ideas are said that checks, captures, and attacks are forcing moves are normally checks are even more forcing than attacks than symbol attacks. Thus why this covered tags can be particularly dangerous. Let's start with this position where black only has a night and upon for a queen. So black definitely has to find something concrete. And here black and pay the move to the 4. So in this case we have cover Jack because the bishop is moving on this rope is given a check and we also have an attack on the beach at 43. So similar to these cover attacks, here we have more than one threat, and this case, white only has one legal move, which is the move kinda see one. And now like Captured the bishop. And now white only has two moves here, either to place the roof or the queen. And after the move up to the two black and actually today with the rook, because this idea of giving a discovered check will be very strong because we also attack the queen. But also very strong, easy moved played in the game which uptakes. And it's even more forcing because we give a check. And here y only has two moves, either to capture the bishop or to play them of kinda the one here after capturing the Bishop, Black already will have a material vantage black and either take on the tool or play them over up to be one. Since after taking would take on the do. And in the end, like has an extra piece and upon. Alternatively, if white here plays a MOOC into the one like here, can enforce a Jack made by playing visual to HCX or which of the four V's of the G5? Any move just covering this diagonal. And after the move Qin do we do we just give a check made after Rubella to ungroup to be one? In any case, what we can see about this movie is that it is particularly strong because the attack is attack, the other side will have to do something. Whereas when we just great undiscovered tax Sum Dems, the Upon can ignore these attack. Now as we saw in the last position, the peace giving the check is the same BCE that created that is covered attack. But another scenario is one. The piece that moves gives the check. In this case, this is also called actually are discovered dark with a check. It is not called undiscovered check in any case, it doesn't matter. The name doesn't really matter. The main point is that this is a very forcing tactic. Let's take a look at disposition. So black has much more active basis. And here y you could actually consider a move while exchanging in Queens. Black would be verifying or my dried to complicate the position. Although why these wars here, with the move when we do, we'd actually would be discovered attack on the Queen. But he made a huge mistake by blame them move when to be five. These another discover attack. But here black has a counter reply. That's why discovered tax sometimes are not good. And here Blackberry, they move up to F2. So this is a discovered tag on the Queen. And we give a check and after dig in the bishop or moving the king, because why it has to do something about it, then black will just capture the queen. In fact, in the game after the bishop to F2, white resigned. So we're going to actually have three scenarios involving checks are discovered, check itself, which is this region in which we move apiece. And the other piece gives a check we can have, are discovered dark given a jag. So the bees that moves gives a jack. And we also great as cover attack. And last we have one of the most forcing tactic, if not the most forcing ducting and Jess after the checkmate, which is to create a double-check. So both pieces, the piece that is moving on, the piece that grade they discovered check. In this case, they both give checks. So here in this position, wide is just a queen and two points down, what it needs to have something extremely forcing otherwise, why will just lose here? And here we see that we can move this bishop and give a check with a broken the one. But if we move the bishop to E3, for example, here we can lock the check or even move the king and black will win easily. However, here we can bleed a bit of 25 given a check with the bishop and with a row. So here we have a double-check and y's is move so forth in because it forces the opponent to move the king. And in this case we see that like can only move the king to eight. After rook to the eight, we get a Jack made. So double checks are very powerful because they forced the king to move. Some desi can deliver segment straight away. So even here, white, being a full wind down, won the game actually after the mortgage up to G5, like resigned. So discovered texts can sometimes you can see our specific case of undiscovered tag on which this attack is a jack, similar to discover our tax gradient to a more targets can be very strong to force an advantage. And whenever we create a discovered check, and we also give a jack with the piece that allows that discovered check, we get what we call a double-check. And these are particularly forcing and strong since the fall of the opponent to move the king. 24. Windmill: Welcome again. And now we'll learn a very particular tactic which is called the windmill. And the started consist on giving a discovered check and giving regular checks at the same time. So when we studied discover attacks and discover checks, we said that in general, discovered checks can be more forcing. So here we have a discovered check plus given row will attacks. So as you can imagine, this is very forcing. That's why this tactic can be particularly dangerous. Let's analyze some positions to see the suckling and to learn some ideas from it in this position here. Why these materially down, why it has two minor pieces for upwind or low white has some bonds, materially speaking, like he's doing fine. On the other hand, we see that here y can give I check with the moral to G7. So why place and reinforcing the king cannot go to a fade. That's why kin to a jade is the only move. By the way here after the moral of the G7, like resign black is a strong barrier. But in any case, let's analyze what could have happened. And here first of all, we see that white can play a movie like rope to E7. Unblock doesn't have anything Borodin going back to jade are these white can repeat moves. So this is something also very psychological about the windmill, that if your opponent has a windmill, you are literally add your opponents mercy and you just have to wait, whoa, fora, bejeweled best. But here in this position, what can actually win a lot of material instead of moving the rock to E7. First of all, white might think about digging the bond here, but like my drive to escape these windmill, that's why here the simplest idea is to start growing material on the seventh rank by Blaine immoral days B7, again, black only has kinda G8, and now we'll give another check so that replace the king in a bad position or the bishop can attack it. So we see this idea that why doesn't have Jack made by white has lots of checks to give. And this is just very annoying for black. And here we can take another bond. So here we have undiscovered check plus and a dagger on the rock. And here again, black only has one move, kinda G8. And here white can capture the rook and after keen to have seven, in fact, in this particular position, we also have this very strong move, 1965 and we have night fork. So basically why these just collecting all of black species, it hasn't really secure. And I want to mention that white has other strong moves here after Blaine moved to G7 and kinda Jade here, white can also take on G5 because we have this fork or double threat, we attack the queen and we plan to give a tag made with them overnight left seven. And if block place to stop this idea, what can play an address 7 lab will have to give the Queen for the night. But here we may also use again are discovered, check and capture the Queen. Or we may also force this very nice technique with them, overlook age seven. So we'll give it a double-check, the 97 rook. And after again the G8, we get this nystagmus because the bishop and the night control all the squares on the 79. So a common idea of the windmill is either to gain material or some damage to give up. Prepare, double-check if we cannot progress any further. And last but not least, to give a jam made. Let's take a look at this position here. Wide can create a windmill with the movie nitrogen six. And after kindred to seven, which is the only move, the knight can move pretty much anywhere. But here in fact, we can even capture a rook first and after the move can do age eight, we have nitrogen six. So we have this perpetual. But here, thanks to the idea that we can give rebel attacks, white can maneuver the night and bringing it to F7 in order to give a Jack made. So after the move, nine to five, again, the only movie skin wage aid. And then white gives a very nice checkmate with the nitrogen F7. So we see that both age eight and in seven are being controlled. And last, I want to clarify something that might be trivial. It is that the peace given that is covered tag must have a clear road to give jags and must not be adapted. For example, in this position here, if wide wants to give regular text with the group takes R7 and then moved to D7. We see that this video is attacked with the night, so lucky and Sibley capture the bishop. And in fact here, even if the knight wasn't attacking the Bishop, Black might try to block the check with the move D4 or nitrogen 5. So here Blaine, the move rope techs have seven to go for a windmill will be just a very bad idea. Ozone idea here is to be a more Lie group digits six or a new move with the Robin DG file in order to give a Jack made. But here again, the bishop is being adapt unblock can also block the SE are going on with the move F6, even if the Bishop couldn't be Dagan. So this would also be bad. So like any tactic, we must double-check in the specific position if it were or not. And in fact, this is a very nice position. It goes here while it has another very brilliant move here. Why can play a double-check? Remember that these are very forcing. So here for sure we know that black has moved the king because it's a double-check. Both pieces could be taken if they were given the jack alone. But here, black has to move the king. And then after the moral duty one, we pay these very similar idea that we spoke about and we get a checkmate. So after the window, G5, rope, daisy five, we have a jagged. So our windmill is just a specific case of undiscovered check on which we can also give novel objects. And these are very forcing deictic, therefore, particularly dangerous. 25. Activity - Discovered Attacks and Checks: Hi again. Let's now test what we learned in this first position. It's white move. And you should find a strong move for white. Here it's black to play. Unusual also find a strong continuation in the position. In the next game, it's y to play. How would you continue here? And let me give you a hint. Tried to grab as much material as possible. In this game. Here, white play the movie reuptake C4. So let me ask you, what's the point behind this move? Here in this game, blood played the Move group to the three, which is actually very strong. So let me know what are the ideas behind that move. Here in this position, blacks position looks bad at first sight, mad here, black play a very strong off. So you should find a very strong move by black. And let me give you a hint. Black move the bishop here. In this position that me ask you if lag can capture the point on the floor. Here it is blood to play. Why is taken only four, but two at first sight seems to be able to capture the nitrogen four because we have two pieces are taking the night and only one defending. But why is that a bad move? Here in this game, white blade, the move robe takes a seven. How did wide get an advantage after that move? On the last position? Not an easy one. Why bloody move night to E5 and here black resigned. So we need to understand why did black resigned here, and I'm going to re dead you that taking the night here will lead to an advantage for wide after taking the bishop and after taking denied. We can, for example, exchange queens. We give a check, so black has grabbed her and then after taking the night, we see that this row will fall. For example, after 1987, we can exchange nights and then in the end, while we'll be obese up. So we see that there is a pin here. Unlike an tried to escape that been like and play the movie night 2D6 or 1985, which is very similar in order to protect the bishop. Unlike can also tried to defend the night with the move F5 degree only do is in our idea. So then you should evaluate forcing lines after 1936 or 1985 and F5. 26. Activity Solution: All right, So hope that you're getting more confident after each activity. Remember that putting the effort is where really matter. It's just a matter of practicing. And the more you practice, the better you'll get is just as straightforward as that. So let's start with the first position here. The roof on G2 is being attacked. But as we know, we should always evaluate force in moves. And here, wide, didn't move the rock. White could have moved the road, for example, to the, to, to defend the bond at this is rather passive. The robe on the GIF file is trying to attack after opening lines, for example, after move age four. But here, what has a very strong 1935, the night seems to be hanging. But here we have these attack on the queen. Discovered attack on auto. White has two pieces hanging the night and rook, we're taking a stronger BCE. That's why here black is in trouble. Our Night Moves like nitrate do, would not be as strong because you're black kind of treat the queen, for example, to the seven in this case. Whereas the movie night 35 has more than one purpose. And we know that these inductance is normally very efficient. Attack the queen with the bishop, with the Discover attack. And we'll also a DAG another peace with the night. So the knight is looking at the bishop also at the night. But this 1972, so here we have more than one thread on. Additionally, blacks queen is kind of dropped because it doesn't have any squares. The nylon D5 is also covered in C7. Here black had to give it a queen. Also be jumped before doesn't work because we would just capture. But after Queen dc1, like didn't get enough conversation for the queen after rook takes. Although black girl a few pieces. Here, white is doing better and won the game. In the next position, we see that this night is hanging, but capturing the night here would not be very effective because here, why didn't capture the bishop? Otherwise, King looks a bit shaky. Their white is obese up, but like has similar alternatives. So here black and Brady move Bishop 25, which is sad discovered check and an attack on the night. This is the simplest way to again, the piece back which was paid in the game. The only detail that here like had to see was that after nitrogen Five, trying to cope with these two threads here, BlackBerry mobile 5, which is very strong because now we have been, so we're combining tactics already, which is great. And let me just say here are very subtle. Note that instead of F6, it was also possible to play H6 here. But F6 is slightly better in this case because we also open the file for the rook. In this case, we are going to win a piece. And then after digging into five, we can also see how this rook will get active. So this is also a move that has more than one purpose. That's why F6 is a bit better than H6. And here, black also got a para position. I also want to mention here that black has other alternatives. For example, rook ideate is another force in movie because we attack the queen and then we can play a similar move. So here, before trying to recover the Ignite, we can play the movie located to the eight. And also possible here was a move like bishop to age five, because now the king kinda go to have three to the Fahrenheit. And after Nitrogen 5, we will get a very similar position after the move F6. In the next game, we can get a very nice windmill. Taking the nano Angie do actually would not be very strong because after roped off seven, what is doing fine White House where a business, but this is not as strong. What was playing the game? You have to remove or update G7, kinda jade, we start collecting material first with the group takes a seven root days. D5 was possible, but before we just capture another bond and after kindred D8, rope duty seven, kindred aid. Now, instead of capturing the night again, we capture this bond and this vision after 85, black can escape the windmill. But we can take the Bishop here, white blade group the G7 first in order to drive the king to the H6 square, Sum Dems, a bishop can give a check, but they can only fall straight away was also good. And after Hindu H6, why I took the bishop. And here white already has more bonds. And after kindred five group the default here, black resigned. Black can play nicely one to save the night after diagonally five. Why this does five points up. So this is just waiting for white. In the next game we have a very forcing position. And here after digging only for the point is that we get a discovery attack on the Queen and we give a check. So here, like has to deal with the jag, for example, after uptakes or moving the king, we just capture the queen. Just want to mention that here, like had another dry, which is the move rope to the aid. On here, white has more than one option, but one of them is to play a force in more. Nitrogen six gives a piece back. But after Dagan the night, we get this very strong move. Robe takes you six and we attack the coin. For example, if group takes with 86. But the main point was to play 1987 and give these discovered attack on the queen in the next position to the three is actually surprisingly strong. And the main thread here is to bring that to S3. So to give a discovered tag on the rook and give a check, and it is actually very hard for wide to deal with that. Here. In fact, white sacrifice the exchange, but in the end, Black also won the game. But the breweries that the root doesn't have many squares. Iv route to the Sikhs we play in 1983 and we give a check and we win. The exchange. Is 707 are gored by the night, so that leaves us with group to be seven. But here we have other very strong idea which is to play the move rope to the one to give a check. And after kinda see do we get this night fork? And we also when material. So for example, after kinda z3, we just captured the room unmoving making here, for example, the C1 kinda see door and work because of nitrate before we give a check and we come to the rook. And after kinda C1, we have these very nystagmus after group. Do a one, kinda c2, either before, it's even a checkmate. In the next position. Here, black played these very nice move. Which of the four we get this fork with the bishop? And the main point is that after digging the bishop, we get these very nice discovered check. And we, when the queen in the game, why continue with the movie night to E3, but here after degeneracy five, black one, the exchange and also this very annoying bond on the segue's unblock got an advantage. The next position is another opening drop, what actually just made him more bishop to D3. And this bond seems to be hanging. But after dig in the bond. We don't give a check with the Queen, which might look like a fork. But here, black can retweet with the night. So these weren't work. But here we can capture first and before and after the queen captures, we get these, discover a DAG on the queen and the check. And after bishop to the 7, we're going to have your first with the bishop, give a check and then we just, when the queen. So dignity for was really bad and would lose obese For upon in the next game taken any for are first of all, with the queen is not good because we have moved to a one and we have these been, so black will have to give the wind but one have enough compensation here. And after dictionary for we would be a similar idea because here after we won, we would recover the piece because we have multiple bins here. For example, after a five different in the night we would play of three. And why do we get a very good position? Because blacks King is still exposed and wide will recover the piece. But even stronger was the very brilliant move so well done, which is queen to the eight. There is no other option than digging a queen. And here again, we get the discovery check. Similar proposition that we analyzed. But here in the game, while it can create, we get this segment that we saw. But here black has another square which is kinda C7. The game ended after the mortgage of 38. And we get another very pretty Jack made with again on C7. In this game, we see that like he's an exchange app and it's actually planning to hijack here and deliver a quick checkmate. But here white blade, a very strong group takes a seven, so BAD is covered, so we need to capture the rook. And here again, the strong move, which have to be eight, which is discover our DAG on the queen and a check on after taking the Bishop here, white capture the queen. So in the end, wide gains a material in this exchange because white god a queen and upon for a reasonable job. But also in this position we see first of all that black skin is a bit open. And secondly that the queen is already forgiveness bonds. So what will gain an extra bond and have a better position? We have our material imbalance, but y would be two bonds up after removal of 36, Windex wide got an advantage and won the game. Just want to mention here that the job 303 looks tempting because we don't sacrifice the bishop. But here, like has a very strong reuptake S3. And we see that now the screen is defended and here lightboard just win the game. So as usual, we need to see our forcing replies on our opponents for the replies. And the last position, it was again, very concrete. We analyze that taken only do was not good. These bin is really annoying because after they going to be seven, We also attack the roof. So after night to DC eggs or 1985 defend in the bishop will get the sequence that after taking the 77, we get these fork. So we attack F7 and on B7 to as usual, these four, they're really the basis of many tactics. And here we have this very strong threat of taken on seven, which is that Jack made not only capturing upon because the 7 is covered by the night. And here in fact, like at first sight, they could escape this fork after playing the wound I to the sixth because we defend if seven, but here the ookinete would be hanging on. Their alternative was to play the movie F5 and hear what gets another idea we distributed MOOC window edge 5. Y can take first with the bishop or Blake window age 50 directly. And after D6, what can capture the bone? And we see that this point is pinned. And here white again wins material advantage. Night to F6. Here is an interesting dry because we attack the queen. But here we're going to continue with the move window H3, and we still keep the spin and white has a much better position. And another idea that I didn't mention actually is a move when do d4? Because here we defend and we attack the night only five but here why conceivably day going in for black cannot take on the one because y would just be a bizarre. The other idea is to take on E5 also be subjects. E4 doesn't work because we capture the Quinn software currIndex E5, we get another discover attack after the movie night to F6, discover a DAG with a check. So like has to capture the night. And then again, we kept on B7 and then we capture the rook and white will get a material advantage. So as we'll see, these ideas of discovery attacks, undiscovered tags are very common and can also lead to quick wins in many games. 27. Outro - Discovered Attacks and Checks: Great, So we learnt another fundamental tactic. What we'll learn in this section, we could summarize it as discover attacks, generally speaking, but I wanted to separate it farther to study it more deeply. But first, the main bond is that we move a piece and we grade on a tag with another piece. That's how discover attack. If we move a piece and we give a check. Thus I discovered check. Remember these very forcing move of moving obese given attack while giving a jack with another BCE. This is a double-check, which is particularly dangerous because the only way to deal with that is by moving the king. And as we studied a very specific case of undiscovered check, which is the windmill, which is simply to give us discover Check In addition to give a rebel attacks. And is also another very forcing and dangerous tactic. So I'm glad that we're deepening our knowledge of just Arctic's. So I'll see you in the next section to be been learning. 28. Intro - Checkmates: Hello again. In this section we are going to study check mates. We've already seen many checkmate positions throughout the course, but now I would like to focus on technical positions that might appear often in your games. And these are called checkmate butters. Knowing them can really help you to gain quickly to convert an advantage, or even to sacrifice material, a lot of material, even the queen, in order to reach them. Now, dominating checkmate buttons is really about practicing them. That's why we'll start with an activity straightaway. So I want you to give it a try to see if you can see the check mates. If not, you will still learn a lot. When I give you the solution. With that in mind, let's get started. 29. Activity - Common Checkmate Patterns: All right, So let's start practicing with some positions, are learning some patterns from them. In the first one, here it is lead to play and lack made in one move. In the next procedure, it is also black to play. Let me know how you would continue here as black. In this position, you should find a checkmate in one for white. Here it is black to play and we see that white is a bit down. But what is blend remote LeBon here. We could play a movie like group to be dual, stopping this bond, you should find something stronger than that. And if you have something stronger than that, then it will normally be given a quick checkmate. In this position, it is wide to play and I will ask you, how did wide force at Jack made after playing the movie broke do age eight. So why does given a full rook, as we'll see, given material to give a check made is very common. We can sacrifice even Quinn and hear what gives a rock like an capture the rook. So you should definitely go relate force in movies in order to give a tag made. In this position, you should let me know how did wide force attack made here? And I will tell you that the first move was to promote the point tonight. So you should calculate how to segment after that. In this position here, white blade there, very nice. Windex, age seven. So you should let me know. Why did black resigned in this position? And this position while blade, another nice sacrifice. 1965. First of all, if like captures, then we just capture with a queen on here. Why does Upon up? But the main idea is that here the nineties pinned, or at least that was blacks idea. So black could capture the queen here. So you should evaluate what would happen if black captures a queen. What is a wind down? So you should definitely evaluate forcing replies for white. Here in this position, at first sight we see that like has a piece for a bond. So black, hazardous advantage. But here white actually forced a jag made in three months. So you should find out what white plate here. Here, black blade, the very nice nitrogen five, in fact, given away either the night or the queen. What's the main point of this morph? And in last position, you should find what brilliant move diblock lay here. So remember to analyze 14 moves, even if they look ridiculous, even if they sacrifice material are, let me give you a hint here. Black moved the queen. 30. Activity Solution: Great, So let's evaluate the positions. The first one is probably never going to happen in your games unless you play against someone who is really starting to play because the first moves, that white blade in that position are actually the worst possible moves that what can lay there. And in fact, this is the quickest possible tag made. That happens after the move F3 or the 41st. And after Blaine E5, E6, and G4, we get this checkmate with the queen on H4. There's a composition involves another common checkmate, which is called the scholars checkmate, which might be common at beginner level, but still not a very sound idea. So after the movie E4, E5, if white plays him of window h5, which is actually not very good because it breaks some opening principles. So here after the movie night, the C6, if we delay as black here, we need to be a bit careful after the morbidity for there is a big threat because y can take on of seven and Eva Jack made. So here if layer more late night, we have six our deck in there when we get these, scholars checkmate. So the main point is stopping these thread. So remember that we must look at our fours in most on our opponents for the moves. So here we can play many moles. We could defend with the Queen. But in general, developing the queen in the opening is not the best, not developing into early. So here in the more GC eggs, for example, might be even a stronger because we can later on develop the bishop and avoid insist with Quint to have three. Again, blame Dr. Jack made. Now we can develop the night. And here why might try, let's say, to be in the night. But here again, instead of defending nowhere My find foreseen moves on our side. Aggressive moves 1984 might be a good idea because now we are the one and tagging, looking at the queen, unblind today can see dual and give a fork to the king and the rook. So here white pretty much has to go back to the one. And in the end we see that black is doing even better here because black has more business developed. These tech rate might be more common, but the whole idea is not very sound for white. In the next position we have a nystagmus here with the mook to have seven. And we see that the knight is covering these two squares. The rock is covering all the other squares, and the rock is aborted by the bond. So he had ruled might be also supported by the king. And these are also a very common pattern that may appear mainly in endings. The next position I was actually a bit demanding here, because here we could definitely capture this bond. And then what actually has to give this bone, as we'll see, Let's say promoting to a queen and after dig in. Now why will just get out of the background? Here, black is a B subset black when normally, when this easily. But if we see that needs to move to promote and start attacking black skin, we see that after the move e3, we actually plan to give these similar Tech made in one move. So this is actually even quicker to win the game and the game continue to E5. And here black just gave a Jack made. So this is even faster if wonder and the IM weekly. And the main bone is that once we know these parallel with the rook in front of the night supported by a barn or the king or any other piece, then it becomes really easy to see this move to the next position is trickier because here why it has a material advantage, but like Blank Dugas, some chondroblasts. So for example, what actually could have continued with the window edge for planning to give a tag made with the rogue and the win because this point is controlling the sevens or even a checkmate after roadway Jade. But here we need to start calculating these jags. Does a DAG and moves were black. So for example, after rocky31 kindof tool will bring the other rook and wanted to be actually quite precise. For example, kinda D3 and here black and capture another bond. And now actually we need to be very careful because for example, after kinda for blacks, in fact, when he like has some options, for example, G5, we get this fork with the bond. And there will be supporting the bond. So here lie within material. And even more forcing is the move. Rotary for kindred three is the only move. And here we can give are actually a very nice Jack made. We have another technique because we see that all the squares are covered. We have discovered check, which is a DAG made. But actually here white corrupt lay them off, kindred G3 and still get an advantage. But here what has to be very precise, whereas in this case by blend immoral graduate, we just give a tag made into moves, indexes you only move. And after window H6 can radiate easy only move. When do D7 we get another typical pattern. The queen normally is very strong, so the queen can give a genuine quite easily. And whenever it's aborted, either with a barn or maybe what Abby's shop or an iPad that when can give Tegrity quite easily. So once we see this pattern, then it's pretty easy to find these models even if will give material. So here we're talking about Jack made so we can sacrifice anything that for this attack rate. So here we get actually 314 moves and we get a checkmate. The next position is actually also quite interesting because here if we promote to a queen, then here blood will start. Given a lot of tags or low. What is plan into action league? You attack made with a moving window G8 or window age eight. Here black is the one giving Jack, I wanted to start calculating if we're going to escape this checks or not. But if we promote tonight and we see what happened in the game once we have this barren is pretty easy to see. This deck made quite quickly. So here black can play kinda wage aid, organ radiate, which is even more flexible because like here has two squares and here is the embodied movement. I do G6. If white plays night 36, then here blood will just escape. So here we don't get a check made. But here after nitrogen segues. Like them play either akin to age seven. And we get these tag made with the night and rook supported by the bond. Or if kinda F7, then we get these other checkmate which is pretty similar. In this case, we get denied on G6 is controlling the square root of 7. And the bond here is also controlling E6. So we get this very nice Tech made with a king or F7 in the next game. This is another very gone pattern here, while sacrifices or queen. But it gives our fourth decade after King Dave's Rule, age four. And this is a common idea when we have the two rooks controlling two files or two rungs. Here black can play actually like resigned after Queen takes age seven. But here black and dry, root bridge 5. And here we just capture and we give the lexeme is a very nice or being dropped after dinner. And E5, as we saw here, black has to capture the queen. And we get this very nice technique into with tonight's and amnesia. So here kindred 7000 remove the seven is controlled. And after 1985, we see that all the squares around the game are controlled. And we get this very pretty Jack made. By the way, these checkmated can happen slightly differently here. After the movie y4, y5. Now have three D6. Which of the four major before? Nice E3 here instead of 26, 1966 is actually even more common and more logical to develop a night, the same idea directly would actually fail because after dignity five here black takes with the night, are now defends the bishop. So quinone form is when possible. And here black wins a piece for a bond. But here actually white convey the movie HT3, which invites black to go wrong. Here, black intake and white would be very fine. But if lag wants to keep the bin here. So remember that this night he spins, now we can take only five. So this is very important because now after 1965, the bishop is not defended. The image is not only for anymore. So after Dagan, we get the BCE bag, but here actually black and capture the bishop knight xy for. But again, now we have another very strong movie which is going to be five. And we get this another unusual fork because we give a jag and attack the 90 for, and now we get the Bismarck, for example, after C6 or Quinto D7, we just capture the night and wide winds up on here. So after 1986, we can try the similar idea, but not directly, but by plane H3 and then degree five, and here captures a queen. Then we get this same Jack made with an A1 C6 instead of upon G6, but it's still the same idea. The January with the Tonight's in the center and the bishop on F7. The next game is really interesting because while it has the raga jagged and the green, but here I can actually forced a jag made by plane group do a fade. And after Dagan and taken. Normally hear black would be fine because black has two rocks and a bishop for a queen. But we get this checkmate after Daguerre and D6. And we see how these two rooks and actually annoying black. So black doesn't have any squares to escape. Normally, a queen alone is not enough to give a Jack made. But here with the two robes, white gives a very nice Jack made. In the next position, the movement I do, G5 is really impressive because y can take both pieces. So let's start with the main idea, which is that after taking the win, so here black sacrifices are full queen, but here we get this nice Jack made. So the bishop and the night, when they aren't the same color they combine, so they control squares of different colors. So here the night is controlling the dark squares and the bishop is controlling least squares. So we get this very pretty Jack made. And after digging the night, we get another similar technique to the one that we analyze with the Queen and upon. Because after a queen we have three, we plan to deliver a tag me, don't you do? And there's no way for wide disrupted just in case we need to be precise because here quandary for with this MID I would not work because here what we'll just play them over 3 onStop the green. And the next position is also very nice because this night seems to be dropped. But after the MOOC window, age five, wide resigned. So the main idea is to give a jaguar with a broken edge four. But since there's opponent euphoria here, black even sacrifices are full Quinn to move that one here the only move is to take the Quinn. And after that, we get roped, wait for, and we get this very nice Tech made. So drug is controlling the HFile and these gave squares, in this case, G1 are controlled by the night this 19800 in the square. So even if the king wasn't H2, we would also get a jag made and is inborn. And notice that the king can be blocked by its own pieces. So here we see this bar on Udot, which is really annoying because why it cannot escape. And this is also a very common idea in other jag mates that we'll study later. 31. Back Rank Checkmates: Hi again, and now we'll talk about it. Checkmate that I wanted to analyze more deeply, which is the bag rung checkmate. And the idea of this segment is to attack Akin that cannot escape because the scape is blocked by its own PCs, normally its own bonds. So let's start with these very basic position here. If it was y to play, white would just give a Jack made with the appropriate, because we see that these bonds blog the scape of the game. We're talking a background check mate because we're talking about the eighth rank in this case, if it's luck, or the first rank, if we analyze a position from wide side. Now let's imagine that it is black to play. So here black should prevent this idea. Black doesn't have a Jack made in one. For example, blood cannot lay rope to the one because also here, why it has a background problem, but there's no quick Jack made. So you're black has to think about stopping that Jack made. And the main ways to do that is either to defend the background. In this case, we cannot bring the roof to the eighth rank bad. We could play a movie like Indra fade. And here we stop this idea of Procreate. This is an idea to defend. Another idea, scenes, the ponds are annoying. Blood-sucking is to give escape square for the king. So here black could move the age or the G bone. For example, after the move HCX. Now the king can escape to H7 after rope. To create this idea, it is also called to give a loft, which is a German word for AR. And in this particular position, we're going to go and play another idea which is removal of 36 to stop the rope from Blaine are up to eight. Now this idea of the king being logged by its own pieces is normally happening with bonds. But as we see in this position, it can happen with bonds and a night. So here after the up to eight, we get this very nice Jack made. But it would take a look at these very similar position, but with the rope On E3 instead of E3. Here the mook to aid Israel Jack made, but it's still a very strong move. So as we'll see later, we can combine sometimes this idea of a jagged me thread with an idea to capture material. So here, the only move for black to stop the CheckMate is the move nine to the eight, which wouldn't be possible if there wasn't the eight because that was Jack made. And here we can capture the night. And in the end, why does Upon up so black and continue here with the move kinda have sevens. Black sacrifice denied, but at least avoided Jack made. As usual when we're talking about checkmate, we can sacrifice anything. If we can give Jack made. Here in this position, like just played Night to be 6, which attacks rook. And here it would be natural to move the rock or to exchange routes. But why do use this idea of a background Jack made with a very simple quinoa fade. And we also have another tactic here, which is called the X-ray, which is as decision on which appease. The ookinete defense, one of its own pieces through another piece, in this case, through an enemy rook. And in fact here already like resigned because after taking the wind, which is the only legal move, we get a background check made. Now like any checkmate or syntactic, it can get more and more complicated. Here we have top layers plane, unlike missed this idea. Here while played, the aggressive 1907, we attack a rook. And here Blackberry, the natural rock after the eight we just read is losing material. Just wanted to mention here that could have defended, but it was a bit tricky after the moon roof F2.8. And here we can dry the very interesting rotary five because these 90 spins. But here black has a very strong control drag and move queen to be four because the 90s hanging, but we attack the queen. So here, after white moves, like when we are in time to move the night, or if white exchanges, Quinn, we've kept it with the night. I'm like he's holding the position instead here, Blackberry Rogoff to the 8, which looks not dwell, is active planning to take on the seven. But here wide as usual, following this principle of trying to find forcing aggressive moves, played the very strong queen 35. And he uses this idea of a background check mate in order to combine it with an R tactic to gay material. Because now we have this very strong pin this night cannot move because what would just come to the queen? So the only logical idea would be to capture the night and defended. Because otherwise let's say H6, we just capture. And you any flagged tries to move the queen, let's say to a four, it is true that this night is pinned here. But why can defend it? For example, route to the four, then bring the other rook. This night is very well-defended and wide will be a piece up. Black is a restaurant layer resigned here, but in any case, the continuation grant been rotated 7 and then we get this background Jack made after wide sacrifices a queen. So background check mates are very common. They normally occur when we have a king that is canceled, as we see in this case, they can normally be prevented by defendant rung or by given an escape square for the king. But they can also be used to combine it with our tactics. 32. Smothered Checkmate: Hi again. So we've already seen many patterns and some of them, I wanted to plug them directly because they are actually quite natural, but these polar is very original, so it's probably better to studied beforehand. Now the idea is to give a tag me with the night to working that it's surrounded by its own business. Let's start with the first position to illustrate this idea, would place the move Quinn, do G8. Sacrificing a queen, which forces rope takes is important to note that the queen has support because otherwise I would just capture with the king and be fine. But after rook takes, we see how black species blocking any escape square for the king. And after night to F7, we get this very nice smothered Jack made. It is very common to have these patterns occur and with the king in the corner. But some does again, might be even closer to the center as we see in the following cases. So here in this position while play the movie night 27. So the only movies kinda C8. And now I play the very strong night to B6, which is an double-check for your black has to move the king. If black plays a move, kinda the aid, then we get these checkmate very similar to the jaggedness that we saw. The queen means supported by obese. But after the move kinda B8, we get this smothered segment again. And we use the same principle that which is very common to sacrifice the queen in order to force it, may be in the MOOC window shade. Again, it's important to notice that the Queen has a board because otherwise Blackboard capture with ageing. But after rook takes, we get this very pretty jagged made. And we'll see how again, black species are blocking Black Skin. Now this idea is mainly common in the middle game, but it may also happen in some openings. So let's analyze an open-end dropper here after the movie for C6, d4, d5. Night, do they do take in and dig in. This is definitely not false gesture when a line that might lead to these smother Jaggard and after night to the seven, the idea of these movies to play night, did you F6, and then if white captures, then we'd have to win the night. And here we're wide, we normally follow with an admiral developing more of like night to have three. But here wide my dry the MOOC window Ito, which doesn't look very logical because it's blogging this bishop and in general in the orbit in one hour, one place, something weird. We need to definitely double-check if it has a thread or not. If it doesn't have any thread, then we can continue normally. And this MOOC will not give our upon in any advantage, might even worse than the position. But here in this case, playing the move to F6 would actually lead to a very nice smother made in one after the more 1986. And we see how the king cannot escape on this bond is pinned. We have an absolute been, so here this point cannot move. So we have this very nice smother Tech made by in any case, I just want to mention that this movie is not particularly strong. Black just has to avoid this idea. Probably the most natural way to continue Here is the move E6, because now 1936 is not possible because we capture with the bishop and then just continue normally in developing night to F6, the bishop might come to E7 and black is doing perfectly fine and wide now has to solve this problem with a big shop, probably white would pay G3 and which of digital. But in any case, this move is just a trick, but it's not necessarily a sound movie playing the move Win32. So as mother made is at Tech, made given by an IED against akin, which is surrounded by its own business. It normally happens in the middle again by it might happen in some opening lines. And it normally involves a queen sacrifice to force it. 33. Activity - Checkmates: Hi again. Let's now practice with more positions. And just in case let me clarify that we'll practice with positions on which will have what we studied reasonably. Thus the background Jack made and the smaller tailor-made. But we'll also try to learn a new technique, buttons. So with that in mind, let's get started in the first position here it is Y2 play and wide play. The movie takes D6. So the question is, why did black resigned after these morph? And let me already give you a hint. Rope takes have 70 is not possible because after procreate, we get this background Jack made and that leaves us with the move Winn-Dixie six. So you should analyze any forcing movies after the move. Windex E6. In the exposition it is blood group lay, and we're going to be a bit creative here, some wondrous Q, which is the worst possible move for black in this position. In this position, wide forced object made into moves. So how did we do that? And as usual, you should analyze forces and moments. And no matter how crazy they might look at first sight as they might lead to some unexpected checkmate. Here it is blood to play. White just captured only four. So the natural reaction here is to capture a bishop, but there's something stronger than that. So find astronomer more than Dagan, the bishop only four in this position in this blood group play white, just paid a very active kindred 5 antagonists rook. And here black resigned. So black is a full piece up. The question is, why did black resigned his position? Here, disliked to play. And you should let me know how did Black Forest or Jack made in this position? In this game, we have this very wild position. Blog is just building nuclear checkmate in one move with them overlay Quinto a one. But here white play first and white lady move window of five unusual analyze how need wide managed to force a Jagger made after that move. Here it is loved to play and hear black forced a very quick checkmate. So try to find out how black continued in this position. In this position. Here, black also forced Jack made, in this case in two moves. So you should find out how the game continued. Our, let me give you a hint. Blog, move the queen here. Here it is wide to play, but wide decided to resign this position. So here the only move actually surveyed them akin to age aid. So you should try to find a way for black performer jack made. And last position here, white blade, they move, rook takes D5. So let me know what is the main idea of that move. 34. Activity Solution: Great, So let's start with the first position here. As we said, taking the queen wouldn't work because we just give a tag made. And after dig in the B2B, we have this very nice rubric aid. Just blank deck here. Now the rock is pinned so the rock cannot capture the wind. And after digging on aid, we just get these background checkmate. No black doesn't have a lot of options because black cannot defend the rook. Like my drag, even a tag on here. What can actually play nicely one, or in this case, what can be the more kinda rage do? And after a window D6 got blocked, detects and white jazz wins the game. And the next position, it was mainly to have some fun. But the main point is that sometimes we play natural moves on these natron moves can be very deadly because as usual, we need to see if our opponent has any real threat. So here might be to D7 will be a very neutral move it as developing a night. But then we just get these similar Jack made that we analyze when we analyze smothered check mates, because this bond is heavily spins. So this would be the worst moving their position. Jazz lose-win one movie even worse than London or wind and blame them over like window D5, just blundering are going. We should be careful about these tricks with his mother generated in the open. The next game after the move Winn-Dixie six, we have a very nice Tech made. First of all, after Windows 7, we get this typical tag me with the queen supported. And after digging with upon, we get these nice Dag made on with the two bishops nicely compliment each other. And here we have another situation on which like skiing is blocked by its own business. And this is a pattern that is not extremely common, but my appear to be shoves the look isolated by they really complement each other very well. In this case. In the next position here, black braid, a very nice visual drift tool which controls the square. And now we blend or give a DAG made so we don't even care about the visual. And we saw this similar idea with the night. I'm not sure if you remember on the other activity with an I don't need to controlling the square now we have a bishop controlling the square. So the January button is very similar, but we have a bishop instead of a night and hear of wide array resigned. For example, after taking the bishop will get a tag made. And the other alternative might be to blame G30 D4 to give an escape square for the king. But here after Diego and division, we give a very quick Jack made after Rookie to H6. The next position is actually very concrete. There's just no way to avoid Jack made. First of all, the room doesn't have many squares. So here the main alternatives are either to bring the rope to a fade or do defended. In any case, we get a similar tag made after rhabdoid seven and group C to G seven. So we already saw an idea of given a checkmate with two rooks controlling two ranks. But here we have two rooks on the same rank. But digging doesn't have any escape square. So this is another checkmate idea that might appear in many games. The next position is also very congruent here, black blade. Really and R2P doc1. And first of all, the main idea is this Jack made these very basic Jack made, for example, if wide, just give the queen. So here we get this segment with a king under ROC. These King girls are beyond G1 and wouldn't have any squares. So black is combining these very basic Jack made with another technique, Byron, which is not that common. After taking the rook will play them of F2. And we see how these king, pawn and B-sharp, they very nicely combined to give attacker made and did want to mention that here after a window D1, we have another tag that I wanted to show here, decking go through F1. But after bishop do D3, we get another tag me with the bond king, a bishop. In the next game, window of 5, first of all, IV kindred 6, we get attack made. And after Cambridge for after Daikin really get this idea of moving the queen and the rook, which is a very good idea. So you have to remove kindred is three root three. The main idea is just to move the rock and the queen soft took window of three and rook, great one. We just bring the king to the edge of the board and Jack made here black resigned. But in any case, the idea is that after kinda do Windex into 81 rope draped one, we get a jag made. So we see how a queen and a rook can drive the king anywhere. And this case could have tried, kindof true, but we get a similar idea after Daikin and kindred one here, white, it has more than one option. But we could try something similar after upto H1 came to the door. Now we have winter day three and we get analogic made. So if you haven't seen it before giving this idea of the queen and the rook, driving the king to the edge of the board, which is very common in the next game. Remember that we study background check mates here wouldn't have wise king log bytes on bonds, but we have these porn on F3, which has a similar role because it's preventing making from going to do. And after a Windex and index, we get these nice for statement. This is washers stronger than any other more because its force in just one dimension. If you saw this idea of Quinta the door, trying to bring the queen to Jiddu, which is another tag made that result then this is less force in and why you can drive, for example, Windows 7 and then Viva Jack or if Quinto G5, when we just log it, sublime is not in dam here, for example, after going to do for here, why can dry cleaned rate five, given a check is genuine queens or may even dry. Andre D1 and D2. D1. Black is doing fine here, but this is clearly not as good as when in the game into moves. And this is important because sometimes we have an advantage and it's important to sport quick Jacobites because otherwise our advantage might vanish throughout the game. That's why we should always be alert about group generates. The next procedure is another very common checkmate idea that if you know it, you will see the movie almost immediately. If not, it might be a bit hard to find it, which is a move quintics, which forces the capture. And then we have this rook knight combined into even checkmate. So D1 is controlled. And this is similar to some of the mates that we analyzed with night and rook. But here we don't even need this Pantone 4 to subordinates. So here the nitrogen has three could be hanging by. We will still leave attack made. The next position is an ending that is not very common. So it might not happen in your games, at least not often, but a list. I wanted to let you know the main ideas. So first of all, if you remember the other activity, visible night, when they are in the same color, they combine well. And here additionally, the king of the defendant side needs to be on the corner with the same color of the bishop. So here black has a dark square Bishop. We would like to drive the king to this corner, so we're already doing fine. And now it's about given the Jack made this visual, Bonnie's 70s actually doing a great job avoiding whites king from leaving that corner. So now we just need to bring the remaining piece, which is the night white. It will only have two moles here, kindred Jade and gained radiate. And now we have more than one option. One option is to bring the night and then after kinda D8, we give a check on after injury jade, we just maneuver with denied. Actually here we need to move the night because if we move the Misha, for example, then we get a stalemate. So we need to be a bit careful here. But after nitrogen for kindred G8, we just give a check. And after Hindu H8, we get these check marks. So we see how miserable at night they combine very well. Under King covers the remaining squares and we get the stagnate. And the last position we have a somewhat crazy position. And here wide tried the very interesting group takes night in any case, blame bacilli here wouldn't be very good because after night to D3, we plan to give adjustment here. Ungroup do we do, for example, is not possible because the bleak winter, the one. And then we just give a check made. So rotate Z5 is an interesting dry and the bone is after Daikin. We give a check. Kinda fade is not even possible because the JavaScript run this square. And after kindred jade, we will get this idea of as mother Jack made. Again, not directly because after Quinto G8, we capture with the king, not with the rook. I'm like is when, but we give discovered tag in order to bring the nitrate six. So after night we have seven. Kinda G8, 1986, we get a double-check. And after again, rage aid will play these typical Quinn sacrifice in order to deliver as mother Jack made in any case, I want to mention that here, like following this principle of using forcing moves, didn't take the rook and played a very nice A6, which is an aggressive more of a forced to move. And also in this case, it is what we call an intermediate more because before capturing the rule can be five. We play another morph, in this case an active move. So why it has to move the queen and want to be able to protect this rug anymore. And y continue with the more Quinta V6 are now black could have captured, but like before played him of Windows U4. And then after a white mom licking, like capture the rogue. And we get these complicated position. White has a bond for the exchange, but black still has a better position and managed during the game. 35. Outro - Checkmates: Great. So we learned a lot about Jack mates. We focused on checkmate Byron's segment buttons are nothing more than similar checkmate positions that might appear in different games. Knowing these patterns for sure will make us win a game straight away. But it can also be used to win games more quickly when we have an advantage and we don't want to ruin it. No integrate ideas can make us when more quickly and more easily in order to avoid the risk of ruling and opposition. And Jack made threats can also be combined with other tactics. We saw these quite often, some dance. One thread alone is not enough, but when we combine it with one or more threads. So in this case, the threat of a Jack made combined with her dark Dick may also be very useful in order to gain advantage. We also studied a very common technique, buttons separately, which is the background checkmate, which is simply given a checkmate working on a background that cannot escape. We also studied another original technique button, which is this mother checkmate, which is a knight given a Jack made to our king, drop by zombies. So here we can see how sometimes our own pieces can be our own enemies since they can help our opponent to deliver a checkmate. And last but not least, improving your visualization of CheckMate is really a matter of practice. That's why we really focused on practicing positions here. So the more that you play, you will start seeing these patterns without needing to memorize them. It is now time to move on to the next section to people learning. 36. Intro - Tactical Sacrifices: Welcome back. We have already seen many sacrifices to reach attack made. So now will keep on starting more tactical sacrifices. We'll start first with tactics that normally involves sacrifices which are the clearance, that deflection, and the decoy. After that, we'll study sacrifices that can be used to save about position and draw the game. And finally, we'll study combinations, which are sacrifices that can involve many different tactics. So let's go back to the chessboard. 37. Clearance: Hi again. Now, what's a clearance? It's simply to clear the way for a peace. Some dads who would like a piece to reach a square or to dominate diagonal around grow file. But there might be another bees in the way. By moving that RPs, we clear the way and that's how we get a clearance. Generally speaking, these clearance might be done for different purposes, for tactical purposes as we study here, but also for long-term compensation in order to place a piece in a grid square, for example. And here we'll focus on the most common way that this is the animal, which is by sacrificing material. So let's start with the first very simple position. Here. White has an overwhelming advantage. What is not only two points up, but also widely is attacking black skin. So here pretty much any movies when in for wide, even taken the row Connie aid. But as usual, when we have an advantage, if we can convert it quickly, then that's great. It will save us time and will not raise grown in the position later. Now in this position, if we imagine that these visual but was not on G6, we can see that this queen would have more activity. And we'll be able to reach the square h seven. And with a queen on age seven, that would actually be a checkmate because we'll have this rook on a V1 control the file. So the queen supported by the reorganized seven would give a checkmate. So with that in mind, we can clear the way for the Quinn. And again, we can play the movie, takes the eight, which would clear the way for the rock. But we can do it in a more forcing way, which as we know, if we can do it is Bearer. And here white pay the mortgage of F7. Now the mortgage over seven gives a check. The king can go to G7, but after that, we give I Tech made on H7. And the other option is to take with the night. And after Quinto H7, which has live attenuated. So we're clear in the way by sacrificing the bishop and the queen, king 0 to 8, 7 and delivery tag me. In this position, we can imagine a night London on C2, given a fork to the king and the queen, which would gain a lot of material, but we have a queen. So the screen is kind of annoying there. Although we could move the Queen, for example, to C4 to try to allow that fork. What can capture the night, for example, because the bishop is attacking the night. But now that we know that idea, we're going to find a forcing move to get to that equation, which is the move when Daisy one. So here we sacrifice our queen for a rock. But after taking on the one, we get this nine fork. And after Kim y1, which is the only move, we take the queen and in the end we gain material because nabla is Iraq APP, we're also a DAG in the rock after 1900. Why resigned? But in this case, here, black has a huge advantage. Why can dry it dug in the night. But here we can simply attack the bishop and we're still having a material advantage. So in this case, we are clearing the way for the knight to reach a square. Let's take a look at this more complicated position here. Although black is a bone up, we can already see that lag is in a lot of trouble because these king is not able to castle. Although here black is attacking laws of physics like skiing is just too exposed. So in this position, I will start first analyzing ideas like window C7, or even check if currIndex December works, which in this case doesn't. But we can also see another tactical idea which is this roof on the one login at the Bishop here. If this night was not on the form, y will simply pay them off when takes E7 and give a checkmate. And with that idea and another checkmate pattern, that white, so white pay the very nice night, 36, we have this very strong threat of taking the seven. Like doesn't have any Cassandra threads in this position. So the first logical moved to analyze here is to take on C6. But after 1987, we get our nice checkmate, drew a bishop and night they combined really well here. I'm like doesn't have a lot of options. In fact, black resigned. For example, after route to the aid, we still get these Tech made. A clearance is a move that clears a square around or file or a diagonal for another piece. And by doing so, we achieve an advantage, normally a material gain or given a checkmate. And this is normally done by sacrificing material. 38. Deflection: Hey there, another tactic that normally involves sacrifices is there deflection, which is about moving obese away from a square and then MEPs can be played an important defensive role. So we might want to move that enemy bees are away from the square. If we can do this by exchanging pieces of equal value, then that's great. But again, sometimes we may even sacrifice material, a lot of material in order to deflect that base in this position, this video 27 is stopping the most appropriate, which would be a Jack made. And we know that here instead of moving this visual which is attacked, we should first analyze if there's any force in attacking. Move on here. The queen to the aid is actually very strong because we deflect these visual from E7. And after taking, which is the only move we just give is very nice Jack made with the rocks aborted by the bishop. In this game where it has a clear advantage, white is an exchange app, and we see that this queen is defending this point, an 86 attacked by the rook. And also these Rouhani five, which is attacked by the queen. With that in mind here, why play the very strong rope, take spawn, deflecting the queen. And already here, luxuries from player black resigned, but the main bone is thereafter taken. We can take the row Connie 5, but also here we might pay them overlook do H1. So this move has more than one purpose because now that the H6 bone is not there, we have the spin on the queen. And in addition to that, we have these rook hanging. So here this position is just really, really bad for black. In this next game, we might think about exchanging rocks, but as usual, if we take a look, first of all, art forms in moves, and secondly, we see that this king on E7 is defended a MOOC, but it could not move to another square. To defend Iraq, the king cannot move to R7 because of the rook, and it cannot move to eight because of the night. With that in mind here the move D6 is a very strong deflection because after digging the bond, we get the rook on a low here, like God the night. First of all, the exchange is good for white because white got a rook for night and upon. But also disposition is really bad for black because after more like group to have six, we will attack this bond. And then this one will just be too powerful. In fact, after rook takes a fade, black already resigned. The flexion is moving an enemy piece away from a square, what is normally defending, and sacrifices to force an advantage using this tactic are very common. 39. Decoy: Hey there. And now I'm gonna talk about that tactic which is somewhat similar to the deflection, which is the decoy. So remember that in a deflection, we move a piece away from a square because that VPCs defending, in this case, what we're doing is we're forcing the NVP is to move to a square. Let's start with disposition. Black is an exchange, like my exchange queens. But he, a black found something much stronger, which is a similar idea that we saw in one of the positions that were analyzed on, we studied pins and skewers. Here, Aflac pays a move window of one. We give a drug but we don't get a secure because after moving the king, liquid is defended. But instead of black, forced white screen to move to our square after the MOOC F7 and hear what resigned. But the main idea is that if y takes, the queen is pinned. We have to take or to even check as we see later. And after taking the rook here, we get this check and now we see that the queen is not protected. So we got a secure and we'll gain a lot of material. I wanted to highlight here that white has another force in moving this position, which is G5. And here black and simply captured upon. Because, why do we not have any texts? Because the coin is pinned. I move that we should definitely not way here is the move kingdom age seven, because here, what will capture the rock will check. So we need to be careful. One day in the mook, just seven to see why doesn't have anything forcing anything morning. But in this case, we would just take an addFive and black were doing material. Another typical idea is to bring the king towards square in order to attack it in this position. What blady move, rook do a jade to bring taking 288. We see that this point is x might be supporting a queen on a seven here. In fact, we also clear the square. So this move roadway jade has two purposes because with the brokerage three, we will not have any checks. But after given the rook and daikon, we play Quinto H3 and the only movies kinda D8. And after Quinto age seven, we get another typical integrity pattern with the queen supported on here. This rock is blogging any escape for blacks gain. And this was young white really played a brilliant move at first sight, like seems to be doing fine here because after, for example, exchange in Queens we will just capture and the Snyder 95 is quite good, I would say at least not worse than this bishop. We see that D4 is covered. So when the G4 would not work because black will just exchanged queens. But in this position while I play the very brilliant rhabdo G7, and first of all, the night cannot capture the rope because the nine is pinned. And here black captured the rook. The other option was to break into H6. But after quinoa for index, I'm going to G5 will get to a very similar line that leads to Jack made, as we'll see. So after Rudy seven, the most natural thing is to capture. And again here why doesn't have going to do for Jack. But wide now has these square, the due to either check because the rock left that square. And after Hindu age seven, black and dry play 1983, where we would capture with the Queen or playing into H6. And we will get very similar ideas. And after akin to H7, we give attack. And after Hindu age six, we force these checkmate. Prendre Jade. Kinda DC's is the only move. And after Queen draft six, if kindred seven, we get this Tegrity button with the rock and the queen that we analyzed. And after Hindu 85, we get another common tech, great idea with the Queen's aborted given a generated again. So the codes are similar to deflections. But in this case, instead of moving an enemy piece away from us, where we want to force the piece to move to a square. And similar to deflections, sacrifices are very common here. 40. Activity - Clearance, Deflection and Decoy: Let's practice what we learned so far in this first game. White played the move C6. So please, Johnny, what's the point of that move? In the second position? Wide would love to have the E8 is available for the ROCC in order to give a check and when material, but there's a bishop, only five. So the question is, which is the best way to clear the way for the rocket in this position. Let me know how you would continue as white. In this position. Wide forced Jack made. So try to find out wide continued. In this position we have equal modules so far, but wide forced an advantage in this position. So try to find out how the game continued. In this game, in this black to play and black for some advantage. How did black continue here? In this position, like found down in idea. So please try to find the best move for black in this position. And in this rest position. White played the ROCC to eat. So please let me know how did wide when material after that move. 41. Activity Solution: Great. Let's summarize the positions. In the first game. The move C6 is actually very strong. And first of all, the main idea is to clear this square for the night. So the point is taken after 1985, why do again a bishop, thanks to this night fork in the game black plate, something similar. Got two ponds for the bees, but still wide, one quite easily. And there's just another detail here that after B6 stopping this night fork C7 here is particularly strong because we have two threads actually taken on the aid and promoting. Thus why like cannot move the night or black can play into the seven, but this will cost like a piece because we capture here. So if there was no peace on the aid, white would not win material. In the next game. As usual, the most force and move was the best, and a year was to take on G7, which is interesting to consider because after bishop to age eight, window G7, we would fossa Jack made, but here black and capture on the seven and a duct the queen and the position is actually not very clear at all because black will also have ideas like 1904 and white. Husband defended Thisbe shop. So the position is much more complicated than the age of 37 which was played. It is even more forcing because we attack our Quinn and black dried. Very interesting idea and play the movie. Night reform. Given a check and invite takes the night, then here, rube takes D7 is a very interesting intermediate moves. We discussed about this in our activities. Instead of capturing individual. First, we have join the seven and we attack the queen. And this position is also not very clear. But after 904, which is a jack, White and simply move the king were moved. They came to have one which doesn't allow any more tags, I'm glad resend because after digging into seven, we just pay them appropriate and we gain a lot of material. In the next position. Many movies with the night are possible. But I particularly like the move nitrogen 6. First of all, the ADS to clear these Diana for the bishop in order to give a checkmate on HA or D7. And also the nylon G6 supports and other checkmate. So after F6, for example, black resigned here, but after F6, wider could have continued with the window edge aid. And after kinda F7 going to H7. So the main idea was to move the night in order to clear the way for the bishop also need to have three was drawn because after F6 trying to block this atonal, we would also have room daisy five, which is very strong because we would deflect these one on white is also in here. In the next game. What is a piece down? But we see that these pieces are really not developed. This bishop is not doing a lot here because this one is protected and black skin is really in danger. And after the move up to a four, there are basically no squares for the king. That's why like has to capture. But after cabbage, When we see that the squares is seven, is not controlled anymore. Anaphoric window C7, we get a very nice checkmate because these two squares are controlled by the bone. On the other squares are controlled by the queen. In the next game, we have a very similar idea, but we started after the move D6, like resign. If black captures the bond, then we just take on a fade. And if kinda create recapture on a fade and the Rockies protected, we actually give attack me. They're just want to mention that taken on a fate was not the best, but even after digging into fade, we still have this idea of D6 and a low here, black and play kindred. We have another idea of deflecting the king after the seven. And if Kinsey seven we just capture and then like cannot capture the road because we just promote. And if night dx, then we first take on D7. And here we have another deflection would capture. And then we just pick up the rock. If black takes on the seven. In the next year, we have very strong player, former world champion Dominic, who felt for a very basic tactics. So these can happen to all of us. Because after taking an age, do we see how these King has to move? And this rook on a one will be hanging here. White captured the visual, but after taking an F1, like God, our login upon for a bishop and won the game. In this game, like has an advantage. So now it's a matter of converting disadvantage. First of all, taking this one wouldn't be very good because white will started giving tags. Here. White would have perpetual tags. For example, after kindred D7, Windows 7, root of 7, Windows E5, we start giving tags. And why do you save in the position? But there was a very similar idea to a position that we studied. After route to a F1, we even check, and since the queen and the rook control the two rungs, why it has to capture. And then after quandary one, we have a skewer and then we'll capture the queen. And the last position after the move, appropriate. If black moves the king, then we can either capture the rook, Oregon stronger, we can give a check. So we have are discovered tag and a jack. And after dig in, we just come to the green. I will see that this Ruby's hanging. So for example, after Dagan, we just capture the rock and y gets a modulus bandage. So capturing is the best alternative. And here we get another discovered tag with a check after a bishop days V5. And in this particular position, like can gain at least the bishop after, when the D7 and after dignity seven and dig into the seven. In the end, we get this weird position where White House or Quinn and upon against the rule going to be jobs. But more importantly, we see that lakhs, rupees or really badly placed, these 1986 is not very well placed. Blacks king is not very safe there. And in the game, why continued with the queen to D5 and group 2, 1 and God, a much better position and won the game. 42. Saving Bad Positions: Hi there. So far women studying tactics in order to gain an advantage or to Jack made basically doing the game. But sometimes when we have a bad position, it is also useful to try to use tactics in order to force a draw ordered tried to get a position that may offer more growing challenges. First of all, if we can do this without sacrificing material for Zuora will do it. Instead of blame with a bad position if we can force a draw, That's great. For example, in the position that we have in front. Black is upon down. Playing a movie like 1987 would not be the best because here black would try to prove a compensation for upon which I don't see it immediately. But instead here black has a very direct way of fortunate row by playing the move queen to S3, which forks the rook and the king. And the only way to stop that is where play anymore quintile the tool will stop the check and defend the rock. And here again, black and dry. Another idea, which is today the move quinoa one and the only logical move yesterday them or Quinta, the one group to be one more, just fail because language has captured the rock. And after Queen to the one, we play again Quincy three. Alternatively here black can actually get the bone back by, in this case, after a move like E3, these visual might develop an attack the queen. This will actually be riskier for black because black has all the other pieces on the first rung. And instead here, black can force this row by playing the more Quinto S3 and we get a repetition. The only way for wide to avoid that is playing 1982, which would basically just London or a rogue force in a row without sacrificing material is very logical if we have our physician, but even here we can sacrifice a lot of material before Sandra, there are many different ways to foster draw. One of them is to read just stay made by a given material. This may also happen in positions on which we have our opponent has a large advantage and starts to play Carlos Lee. So we always need to keep in mind these ideas. In this position. If we just remove black screen from the board, we see that the king on a jade is nasty mid position. With that in mind, after window F6, given a check and after a move like in the G8, after that, why can just start pushing the F porn, which is a past bone. And these would normally be easily win for wide. Instead, just play the movie, afford directly thinking that Blackboard and have any resources. Normally when we have queens on the board and we have a worse position, it is very common to try to give a perpetual tag by, in this case, that idea won't work because after playing them move Windows 7, which is the only logical tech and we can play, we will just that check with the MOOC going to F6. And in fact, we are given another check. So we are forcing the exchange of queens. And we give what we call a cross-check because we face a jack with another Tech and these position after exchanging grains would be just easily win for wide. So I'm British word that wide, who is a strong player definitely considered this idea of stopping upper betrayal jack. But these really an idea of 43 este made in this position and black raided move window G4. And the idea is that after taking, the queen would just get. Stain rate. And this movie is pretty forcing. White only has two other moves. If King do FC6, which has given our chalcone six, and we get a similar situation because if white takes the queen, It's a stalemate. If white plays kindred U5, which has given on the check. And after akin to H6, which was played in the game directly, black played another brilliant move, plug Brady move, window G5, which forces to capture the queen and avoid takes either with a barn or the queen, or the king is going to be este made in all cases. For example, after a queen takes D5, now the king is controlling age seven and we get a stalemate. So as usual here we need to be careful. The move Quinto H5 look similar, but in this case, well, we'll just cover it with the Queen. And these will not be ashamed because here black would have the DH square for the king and then it will be a Tech made after Queen to aid. Another idea that I mentioned to force our drawer is to give material in order to reach. But we'll check in this position. We see that while these two points down uneven, having more species. So the position looks just completely desperate. But here white found the brilliant move rope to D2, which is pretty forcing because if the queen doesn't come to the room, then y would just captured the roof on the eight. And after taking the rock would just start giving checks unenforceable bed while after kinda G8, instead of taking the bishop, we keep on giving tax on the gain. One denude, kinda fade, kinda F6 can create and we got upper bed will check. Another idea after Queen 37 was to break into a jade. But we will give a chair can F6 or if kindred six, we give I check on it for and we get upper Bidwell check. Another idea to try to get a drawer is to force a fortress in a worse position or in a position that might be hard for us to play. In this position that we have in front here. Black has a rock and a bishop and a bond for a queen, but it actually has more active feces and these king may also be a target particular I want to have such an active Quinn. Also, white is trying to capture this one. That's why in this position, Black played very concrete moves in order to get a fortress. Like bleeding move R2P days before, which seems to be a bad mood for because after Queen B35, we'll just fork the king and the bishop. And after we subtract six route takes here black played another forcing move, which is a mook, takes the form given a check and a duck in it when that's why it has a DAG. And after group takes up six, we get a fortress. This rule will stay on the F file and whites king will not be able to penetrate and a dark black skin. The game continued quantity for b in the rock, which is an interesting dry, but after kinda D7 kindred Three Kingdoms, seven, black robe, the spin. I'm like We live in sacrifice and other bond. This bond and A6 doesn't matter as long as we keep this rock on the file. Why doesn't have any bond to promote? The only way for why doing this game is to give a check made. But with the queen alone, it won't be possible because this rock will just avoid white skin from attacking black skin. So here we're using tactics to force a fortress, but afforded to us requires a long-term understanding of the position. So here we're not forcing the draw straight away, but we're reaching our drawing position with correctly. So tactics can be used not only to Jack made or to gain an advantage, but also to save out the position. And the most common ways to do that are to sacrifice material, to register a mailed prepper double-check to force a repetition or to grade a fortress. 43. Combinations: Hey again, and now we're going to talk about combinations. A combination is a sequence of moves, a sequence of force moves that involve one or more sacrifices. And in fact, we've already seen many combinations. Most of them only took a few movies. But as we'll see, some combinations can be actually longer. And they can involve a lot of tactical ideas. In any case, let me show you an example of a combination that we've already seen. When we analyze this position, we discuss about clearing cedar for the night in order to give a fork. And here we actually sacrifice the Queen for the rook. And after Daikin, we get this work and we win even more material because we just capture the full grain. So in all these combination, we get a material advantage because black ends up being a rogue AP. In this game, we have this bishop ungroup I in this medium, and G7, which is funded by the night. But as we've seen when we analyze, windmills are all going to be job, being able to deliver discovered tags are quite powerful. And with a similar idea in mind here, white blade, the queen takes H5, sacrificing our queen for a night using another typical tactical idea which is removing a defender, in this case, the night at defending the bishop and the seven. And here black actually didn't take the queen. In any case, after rook left seven. Rope takes, only then took the Quinn. But after dignity seven, kinda fade and drop dates. Here, white has a better position. Also, white has a material vantage. Why it has a rogue and to be shoves plus a bond for the queen. Not to mention that this bond is going to fall. So in this position, black resigned. Now the question is what would happen if blood takes the queen? Then after digging into seven kindred JDBC only move. And here actually white has many moves in order to deliver are discovered Jack. The simplest is a move up to the seven because we just attack the queen and we give a check, I'm black and drag to complicate the position where the movie E5 and here, even taking the green is already good enough because we just end up a full BCE up after Black takes a bishop. And even here why it has a very strong rope day C5. And the bond is that if lactase Iraq, then after REG 5, we get this very strong tag. And the only way to stop this segment is to give back the Queen. And after dig in and D7 and kinda D8, we take another bond and we gained more material. So this is just waiting for white. Let's take a look at another very nice combination that ends up with a medium and dark. In this position here, Blackberry, they move. Bishop takes upon this idea of capturing upon on a 22 or on H7 is also another common idea to sacrifice material in order to adapt the opponent's game. Sometimes it can be a purely tactical sacrifice because we just end up Boolean the game as in this case. And sometimes it can be for a long-term conversation in order to expose the enemy King after dig in it. Why doesn't take the bond like has a better position, an extra material. So here I took and after rook do H5, white again only has two possible mobile. So as we see, this is very forcing. What made them off kinda d1. If white plays a move, kinda D3, then we get this nitrogen-14 tag, which is a fork. So white hazard take the night and these clears away for the queen in order to give a check. And after going to have three Winn-Dixie for guinea three kindred 4, we get this nice Jack made. The bishop is controlling F3. And after kinda D1, black followed as similarity or nitrogen four to clear the way for the queen. And wide resigned in this position because amazingly, it is not possible to stop the CheckMate. Even though in this was young white has, when he moves, we need to understand what blacks thread is not necessarily to Blake lineage for straight away, but actually to play rock to age one and then Plato in grade four to grade Jack. And this is just actually not possible to stop. For example, if route to E1, then we give this deck. We analyze this idea when we studied the coils. So this brings hacking to H1 and now we land donate for with a tag. So it's even more powerful. And after kinda D1 window age, do we just get a check made? For example, kinda have one here we can take with a queen or a queen, great one, because this rock is controlling any escape that the king might have. So amazingly disposition is just a forced Jack made for black under idea might be to play G3. But this is even worse because we just give a check made in one move. Let's analyze another position where we really combined a lot of tactics. So like in most combinations, white starts here with a sacrifice. What plays a move before? Which sacrifice upon black has to take this bond because this bone is forging the bishop and denied. And after day 3, 4 here what made a very strong night before. So we're attacking these visual and we also have an idea to land on the Sikhs with denied to fork the queen and the rock. And this is surprisingly strong. First of all, the idea is to deflect these Bishop from this diagonal and the bishop cannot move, cannot go back to E7, for example, because we just captured the night. Unblock could have captured the bishop or babies have to, if I first, as happened in the game and after Queen to be one, this visual kept only do because otherwise, why would come to the night and hear what plays the very strong night 36, which is another idea that we saw, which is the idea to play an intermediate move. So before capturing, sometimes we can play something even stronger. And here we are just forking the queen and the row with the night. And after a win 37, we capture this rook. In this case, we also attack the queen, does why black has to go for the night. And only then we capture another piece here, instead of capturing the bishop white gap to the other bishop on B5. And in all the sequence of very forcing moves wide ended up within material because now wide has Iraq for an INR bond. So this whole idea of playing before can be broken down into different tactics that were used in this position. This is definitely more advanced, is not a one or two move combination. But since we studied all the tactical ideas involved, we can now understand it. So a combination is a sequence of force moves, involves sacrifices to end up getting an advantage. And they can involve a lot of tactical ideas. 44. Activity - Saving Bad Positions and Combinations: Alright, so let's do another activity. In the first position, like has a large advantage. Black is an exchange and down by black has four extra ponds. Not to mention that these bonds can advance. But here blood pay the move quintics F2. Why is this a bad move? In the second position? Black forced at row with the move reuptake S3. So please try to understand how the draw was forced after that move. In this game lacks precision, looks desperate because while it has an extra measure, Babylon. But let me know how did Black managed to force a draw in this game wide is a lot of material down. So how would you continue here as white? In this decision? Quite played a very nice combination, starting with the move 1986, sacrificing the night. So let me know why this is a strong more for white. This game, wide force, the material gain after the more mesh objects have seven solid, no, Y is at most so strong here in this position while played a winning combination. So let me know how did wide managed to force an advantage here? And let me give you a hint. White move the rock in this position. In this position, let me know how black managed to force attack made. And the last position here we're blade, the very brilliant robe takes E7. So let me know what are the ideas behind that morph. So you should for sure, unless captures with the rock or with the king. 45. Activity Solution: Great, So let's stick with solution in the first position. Like actually to connect tool. Just thinking that after uptakes disposition when we normally easily winning with these two bonds, like quasimodular advantage. So this should be pretty easy doing, but instead would like miss the very simple enforcing rook do H8, just sacrifice in Iraq? And here are the rays are great wardrobe because after taking the rock, which is the only possible move, we just get a very nice day made. So this is a common thing when we have a large advantage, we just relax and play careless moves. Here black has many other options. For example, Dagan, the bond with the queen, which is pretty foreseen and budgeted direct or even playing Mitch of 34, which is another forcing move. And after kinda D1, even now we can exchange queens because we do it with a check and we don't get a stalemate anymore. For example, after taking it, just start pushing these bonds. I'm like woodwind easily. In the second position after rook takes an index, otherwise black is even not materially down toward the mythology that things just to take the rook and now we get another sacrifice with the idea to get a stalemate after Dagan rook. But here wide actually dried and just Nadya to break into a duel. And here black actually saw this idea, which is to give checks on the ranks. So after going to a do loop to the tool, we just start giving checks. This is what we call a crazy rock because the rock is sacrificing cells each dime and it takes it, we get a drawer and the AIG continued kinda anyone but like kept on giving checks. Why tried to come with the king? Great for body here after rotated three, the gaming is narrow after index because, why not have any other move? And we get a statement. Just wanted to mention that we need to be careful about these ideas of stable because instead of R2P to the tool, the mook to a3 would be very bad because now the king can come this way. For example, after going to the tool, it will give jags on the third rank. We just bring the king to be due and after group to be three, we can come to the queen. And it is not a statement anymore because now the king has two squares school and why would win here? In this was like found a very pretty move. Windows E5, which forks the queen and the king. And after capturing, because otherwise Blackboard tests come to the equation, we get a very nice Stay made. All the squares around the king are controlled by the bishop or the queen. So that was the most force in solution. If you thought about given Upper Bidwell check that wasn't addressed Nadya, but quintile five was more forcing. Here Blackboard, I've tried Windows E3, and the idea is that we jumped to a 31 work. We will just capture the Queen. But in this position, y can try to escape the texts by bringing the king to E6. For example, after window J1, K2, U5. Why is escaping the tags and winning the game in this position? Why does a lot of material down being ambitious here wouldn't work, for example, paying them off Quinto HCX or kinda D5 to dry the force attack made because black can simply capture this bone and defend the G7 square. But instead, white can save the day by playing them move roped 87 on after Daikin, which is the only legal move. We just give tags after 25 and after kindred seven organ to 88, which has give tax on the G and H file. And we get a perpetual Tech, for example, after Queen Ridge 5, kinda D8 or kinda D7, Quinta G5. And we just get upper federal tech. In the next game, quite blade these very nice moved nightly six would give us a check and also forks. That's why black has to capture like resigning disposition. But the idea is that after capturing, we just deflect these bond. And now we give a check with the moral duty seven and we get another fork on the screen is defending the rook like an dry given the Queen. But the main problem is that after quintics E6, these to be, these are not well-coordinated and this bond is very strong. So why do we win easily here? In lexeme, we have another nice combination after capturing. The only possible move is to capture the bishop. Which again, this is really nice when we play it because we just limit a lot the replies of our opponent. White continue with another very forcing move. Rook takes E7, we fork the king and the queen. And after capturing, we get a skewer after Queen wait seven, we saw this idea many times. And after akin to E6, Winn-Dixie seven, white got a large advantage and won the game. In the next game we have another nice combination word laid him move rhabdo F5, which seems to sacrifice for rock. But the main idea is that we deflect these rook glycol, so cannot block both capture. And after taking on a five, we will just capture the bishop and give a fork, and y will end up being too busy sub y just had to be a bit careful to stop these bonds, but they're already well-controlled by the bishop. So after the Moraga five by white black resigned. In this position, we see that black has pressure on g3 with the queen and the night. And with that in mind, luck played the rock sacrifice. R2p days of tool would remove these defender of the bone. And also here, why resigned, which is a strong player. But the idea is that after taking, then we just capture on d3 and we just force a detonate. In the last position. We have definitely a more advanced combination because we have a lot of tactical ideas involved. After rook takes the seven. Well, let's start with the symbol options, which is taken with the green one or more. Because after uptakes, we give I check and why these Jazz winning material and taking when the king is a bit more complicated. But the main idea is that we just started attacking lacks King after October 1. And here the king can go to D6 or the aid because the king has to protect the queen. After akin to the aid, we give a check with the night. And after the king moves, then we just give Alice covered tag and we attack with denied. So we win a lot of material. And instead of kinda the aid after kinda D6, we give another check. This is a bit more complicated, but the main idea is that this king is just very exposed. And black and Germany ideas, but all of them or work kinda C6, we will get a very nice Tech made would drop to C1. And after kinda C7, we just keep on attacking the king. So 1986, kinda B8 quinoa for is very strong. We just went material because after rope to C7, we capture the rook. And after currIndex is seven, we just give arenas Tech made here because the screen is pinned, cannot cover the eighth rank. Unless idea is that after group to C5, we just play the movie of 36, would just deflects the king from the defense of the rock. And here why does or gains a lot of material. For example, if lack gives the queen, then we just kept it in the night. And we have this been on the rock and white is gaining a lot of material. But even more impressive is the game continuation. Here black played a very creative, kinda afraid. We just sacrifice is a queen, but it has a background check mate idea. So the queen cannot be taken. For example, if one takes, then we just kept her here. And we force a check made by the white saw all these some blade, the very nice room to have seven given a jag. And again, the queen can never capture the room because we would always capture on c8 with a check. I'm like dried kinda D8 quite insisted. We'd rope duty seven. The root cannot be captured with the king because we capture with a check. This rock is just offering itself each dime. And after it kinda way Jade rope dates. In this position, black resigned because quite actually has a force in Jack made that amazingly, Steinitz who was playing this modulus white saw in advance. And the idea is that after kinda D8, we Baraboo G7, the rule cannot be captured. And after Hindu 88 kindred for we force object made after King Day 7 when tech kinda fade. And why do we start giving tags? And Florida Tech made here, if they can, goes to the eight. We just give jags and then play quinoa fade and afternoon create night to F7. This queen is been so it cannot capture the night. And after kinda D7, Quinto, D6, we can attack rate. And instead of kindred after kinda D6 will have general F6 and refers a jagged rate because the king cannot go to this file. So quandary six is the only move. And then we just give these dynastic made. He indicates there are lots of lines here, but just wanted to show you how this whole combination was very deep. It involved a lot of legal ideas. And this also impressive how wide saw these Chegg made well in advance. 46. Outro - Tactical Sacrifices: Great. So we learned a lot of tactics and a lot more about sacrifices. First, we studied tactics where sacrifices are very common, that are used to gain a material, the bandage, or to give a checkmate, which are the clearance, the deflection, and a decoy. And second, we learned how tactics can be used in order to force a draw when we have a bad position by using row in ideas like stay made, perpetual check for repetition or creating a fortress. And last, we studied combinations which always involve sacrifices and they make use of tactics in order to gain an advantage. We saw how these combinations can get really deep. But in any case, they consist of sacrifices and a sequence of force. Most, even though they can go very, very deep, like 1015 or 20 moves ahead, they always have this in common, that they involve sacrifices and they are pretty forcing. And last, let me remind you that here we studied tactical sacrifices because they are sacrifices that are pretty forcing and they give something concrete in return. But there can be other sacrifices. Like strategics are devices that can give more abstract and long-term advantages. So I'm waiting for you on the next section to be well-known in tactical ideas. 47. Intro - More Chess Tactics: Hi again. We have learned a lot of practical ideas so far, including the most common ones, like beans, forks, sacrifices, even attack made. In this section, we're going to keep on learning new technical ideas. Some of them might be fairly common, like drop-in apiece. Other tactics are not that common, but in any case, I wanted you to be aware of them. So let's go back to the board. 48. Trapping a Piece: Hi again. So far I've spoken a lot about the ADL of having two or more threads in order to overload our opponent, to make it harder to defend and to win material that way. This is quite a foundation of tactics, to have many threads in order to make one of them work while your opponent is dealing with the other threats. Now sometimes we can have one thread and that thread can be good enough in order to win material. One case may be that we might attack a BCE or a bond, and we might have more pieces attacking and our opponent. And that way we just captured the piece because we simply have more firepower. This happens a lot when we have a material advantage. When we have RBCs, it's easier to capture more material because it's not possible to defend with less basis. But on our idea to win material when we don't have a material bandage and when we don't have two or more threads is to drop an opponent's piece. A piece that can easily be character is a piece that doesn't have humility. And with that in mind, we can force that bees to have less mobility in order to capture it. Let's start with this first position. Here, the position looks very dull. We have equal material, but suddenly after the move Up to B8, like resigned, here we have a very simple and direct threat. Unblock cannot actually deal with that. So the root cannot move 20 square. The rope might capture the bishop, but then really does capture back. And when an exchange. And the idea might be to play when the D5. And here we also have another idea of taking seven. So here we're not using one single thread, but we also have an indirect threat of taken and E7. So after 25, we can just take the bishop and we went a full this in this game, similar to the previous position, out of nowhere, a piece became trapped in this position wide just took the boundary for we just received was not the best. Ii was more cautious to play them overnight. Did you do nights when they are on the edge of the board? Sometimes they are not well-placed because it'll have a lot of activity. And here after taking an A4, like captured and after taking R3 4. Again, black plate assembly required by the smooth actually limits the activity of ninhydrin h4. Now the night doesn't have the square available. And in fact already here. Why resigned? The idea is that like he's going to break into G5, unseemly captured the night, for example, after Rookie seven G5. And these night doesn't have any square. I'm like is going to end up a piece up. The queen has more mobility than any other piece, but even the queen can be dropped as well. And some dance we're going to drop it directly. Or sometimes we can use tactics like sacrifices in order to capture a queen. In this position, we can already see that the Quinn doesn't have any squares to go. G5 is controlled by upon a five by another pond. And E6 bond, also a four is controlled by the G3. Upon, with that in mind here, white blade, the very strong majority G5, we attack the queen and the queen doesn't have any squares to go. That's why like has to capture. And after-dinner 95. What is going to win material like dried Windex, but after night decks, which uptakes while it has acquainted for diabetes and won the game pretty quickly. Now let's see, a very impressive combination would uses a lot of legal ideas including trapping, obese, human disposition, wide blade, the very nice before. This is a big area to drop a bishop. But in this case, like an captured the bond, otherwise the visual doesn't have any squares. I have to take in white baby move Quinn to B3, and we now have a double thread. One idea is to take on the five, and another idea is to take on reform. So the first move that would come to mind is either to take this bond on A3 because if I'd kept us on before, what would drop the bishop or to Blake Windows 7 to defend that bond. In most cases after taking an A3 or plane windows 7, what would capture this one? Why does it only when a bond wide now also adapts this rule can aid which is also dropped. The rocks are duct, there is no way to defend it. For example, bishop to A6 is not possible because you would just come to the bishop like an dry rub to be eight, but then we will just capture with the bishop on G3. So why does when material here, first of all, drag-and-drop the bishop now trying to drop the rock, but even more impressive is luxury blind. Again, here we see this idea of using forcing moves. We see it on both sides. Like dried the very creative 1985 attack in the equation instead of defending and sacrificing obese. So here wide, pretty much has to capture the night and I have to dig in. Now black has two bonds for the piece, which would normally not be enough, but black also plans to place it for forking the bishop and the queen. And if wide plays passively, for example, Quinn to the one after C4, the visual has removed. And then black and blade B3. And we're going to really see that like has these very strong bonds, white skin is not very well-placed. They're like My follow-up with be shocked to A6 like has very active basis. So black has a good position here, even though black has a slight material deficit. That way here White played another attack in forcing move, which has a very brilliant idea behind and took on before allowing this fork after C4. And if the queen moves, then like we've captured, the bishop would check does why, why would not be in time to capture and the visual 185. But using this idea of trying to find a duck in moves here one played a very brilliant move, which up to age seven check this idea of giving obese that we know we're going to lose, but to give it in the best possible way, sometimes you encounter in material before we lose it. It's called a Desperado. And here black continued with kindred Jade. And after Windows E3, which uptakes quintics and kinda takes white, got a much better position. Now these bonds are not that strong. These knight is going to be very powerful in the far and wide won the game. But what was the main idea of Ms. Lovejoy seven? The idea was to bring the kingdom age seven after capturing. And now we will play the move windows into even a check. And after that, we can capture the bishop and wide also ends up our b sub in this variation. So in this position after playing before, white is using a very basic idea to drop a piece combined with other tactics in order to give medieval. Again, this is a deep combinations, but if we analyze the tactical idea separately, we can understand it very clearly. So I dropped this is obese, that doesn't have mobility and that we can capture. Keep in mind this idea to drop pieces either directly or by using practical ideas in Gurion sacrifices or W dogs. As we saw in the last position. 49. Interference: Hey there. And now I'm going to talk about the number tactic, which is called the interference. And interference is to place a piece between two enemy pieces in order to attack one of them. So basically what we're doing here is breaking the communication between two enemy PCs. And by doing so, we will adapt one of those species in this first position. Here, black is upon down, but black braided move nine to the one, which interferes between the rock and night. Since this is a DAG, is quite forcing. And the main idea is that if wide move the king, for example, kindred tool, then after taken denied, black would just be obese Up in the game. Why decided instead to give the exchange? But after Daikin and Daikin like won the game being an exchange app in this position. What is a bond down? But white has some ideas to attack, like skiing, for example. Why would love to capture this bond if it was not protected? We see that the bishop Amit, who is protecting the bond. But with the movie E5, white, it just breaks these defense and the black takes the bond. Then we just, for the Jack made after going to F6 window G7, and we just capture. And after these MOOC, they are actually no good replies for black. Like can take only five with the bishop. But after taking 15, what was still have the same threat of Dagan and F6, like dried quantity six. But why blade quinoa fade? With for this window G8 on now white rot, they came to the seven, planning your day going F6 again. And after quinoa F6, what blade? These very nice check on the eight, which forces a queen bag BD aid, but also keeps an eye on F6. In this position, black resigned because after window G8, Windex going to D7 will force a DAG made. And in this game, white really played an amazing move. First of all, if we look at this position, we see that white is materially down, three bonds down. But we can imagine a bishop going to H6 unblind to give high-tech made after 37, we saw a similar pattern with a bond instead of a bishop. But the main idea is that black skin might become a dog and pretty easily. But if would write this idea straight away after B-sharp to A6, then black can even capture the rook. And we see that these queen is defending the squarer. It X-rays these square on D7 and white wouldn't have a jagged made. And in fact here like would just when material and the game. Also, if we move the rock, them like unseemly take the bishop and y does not intend to give Jaclyn with the queen or the bishop. Because after dignity three, we are actually our DAG and the queen. And we also now blind dog of a foregone half tool. So this is also bad for white. Instead, wide played, amazing visual desc for which first of all, it interferes with the defense of the queen. So now we jump to A6 would be strong because the queen would be undefended. We are also attacking the queen. Even though the rope is attacked, we are attacking the queen. So this whole idea, which of the S4 still follows the principle that we studied or finding forcing more because it is an adapted move, it interferes, but it also allows the rook on F3 to attack the queen. And amazingly, even though the bishop can be captured in four different ways, they are, nobody replies. If we capture with the bishop denied or the rook, then we will just capture the Quinn, for example, after each objective 4, which has come to the queen. And if black captures the bishop with the Queen, now we have this idea of mutual critics and navigate a tailor-made. For example, after taking the MOOC than the queen is not defending E7 anymore and we just give it to animate. In the game. Black dried, taken the road. But after Windex might be five root dx, y still has a material bandage and is still trying to adapt. So here in this position, like resigned. So an interference is simply blocking the communication between two enemy pieces in order to attack one of them. And it can be a very dangerous idea, particularly if we combine it with other tactics. 50. Activity - Trapping a Piece and Interference: Let's practice what we learned so far in this section. In this first game, while played a very surprising move, night 2D6, try to find out why these movies so strong. In this position. We're just played the move bishop do have one attack in Iraq, tried to find the best continuation for that. In this position, let me know how can black trap widescreen. And here, let me know how can wide drop Blacks night in this position, wide also dropped a piece. So let me know how did wide continue in this position? Wide found a very strong move. So try to find out what wide blade in this position wide played the move 1905, which is actually very strong because black resigned. So try to figure out why these movies so strong in this position. What's wrong? Interference, move the blood play in this position, while play the movie rook 25. So what's the idea behind? And move on in the last position? Let me know. How did that get a large advantage in one move. 51. Activity Solution: Great, let's check the positions. In the first one. Actually black seems to have a very good position. Even these ponds don't look very good. Black speech of his very active. But out of nowhere, where will the move? 1986. And black resigned. So amazingly, blacks rook is going to be last. One idea is that we plan to fork the king and the rook in the movie night Create. And we can see that the Rubens is seven, doesn't have a square to go. And the alternatives are to capture the night. But after capturing, then we're going to take the rock. And in descending the rock is going to be much stronger than the meetup. And innovative like plays kindred seven. To avoid the tech. After 1987, the rock still doesn't have squares and wide wins the game. In the next position. Like doesn't have a great physician, but at least playing the mook to C7 would continue the game. Y can take on the seat, for example. And after Dagan take in, we can take on C3. What has a better position? Distributions are quite active where even trying to attack upon here, but the position here is not lost for black. But amazingly, all the other options were actually bad for black. Thus, Darwin assemble one group to C6 would just blunder upon, we were even get the spin. So here, why does gaining a lot of material? Similarly after the Morph group dissociate, so the rope is being attacked, so we have to move it. After image of 283, black and drier five. Then we're against him. They take I have to take in. We can just take on D6. And here white has a large advantage. For example, if like decks, before digging the queen, we can lay another intermediate move. Measure uptakes. We give a check, and only then we capture the green and white is having a material advantage. And the vision. And the other movie was taken any form which was played in the game and was actually a very bad mistake. I'm not sure what black missed because after F3, these rook is surprisingly trapped. It doesn't have any good squares. Here, black even blade the night to F6. And after digging the night like resigned. But after they're relatively best move for or in back, then we can test capture. And then capturing the six so wide here is also getting a large advantage and would normally when quite easily. In the next procedure, we can already see how the screen looks in danger there. It cannot retreat because of this policy. Three, on the first move, Egypt before is pretty natural to attack the queen. And the only square the queen can go to A4. And now we see again this idea that we can drop a piece by sacrificing material because the queen is satisfied piece that we can even sacrificing night. And after an ID to C5, white resigned on the bond is that after Daguerre and Daikin, we will just capture the green and black would get a large material bandage. In the next position we have equal material, but we're gonna raise, see how whitespace Java's are very active, also the king. So this was region is definitely not equal and white actually played very accurately. Just attacking the night straight away. Would allow 1907 under xA after Hindus, Sikhs tonight can go to the 6 and at least the night is not loved. White is still much better, but at least black is not losing obese straight away. But after kinda E6, what is gain in space are not allowing the night to go to E7. I'm like on New York bishop to H6. But after visual 37, page up to V7 was also possible that pitch up to B7 is more natural because after night to A7, which is the only square root than the night has, we see these common pattern that denied on the edge of the road normally is not very well-placed, controlled by a bishop. So here the night doesn't have any square roots to grow. The game finished very quickly after Kim takes me up to C1, B3, beloved we do. Why they gave the bomb back. After Hindus, Sikhs. But after digging into three which have to have 21 will just capture and B6 and then get this night like dried B5. But after taken, now we even have an extra bond and this bond will just advance. So you have like resigned. In the next game, the idea is to travel the night or F6, it would dry D5 straight away. The night we'll have the square on the seven. And if white resemble it tries to take 15, then will I will Das Kapital in the night, not with the bone because the poly spin. An atlas here black is not losing material part here. What Beta very concrete idea after digging or 95 when the bishop and Daikin with the how wide has these two pieces on the defile? And whenever we have two or more pieces on a file around or a diagonal, this is what we call a battery, which can normally be very powerful to capture material. For example, in this case, we see that we are controlling the seven square with two pieces. So after the move G5, if the knight goes to the seven, then we just capture it. Just to mention that here exchanging first wouldn't be good because we wouldn't have them battery anymore. And now after D5, the knight can go to this amine. So the whole idea of T n5 and the bishop was to clear the defile for these battery. And then after D5, have good control of the disseminate square. The game continued only a few moves, like maybe Chablis six. But in any case here, white is gaining the night. In this position, we have Yukon material, but quiets position is much better. We can really see the activity of pretty much all of white species. They are just exploding activity. We also have these battery in this case on the defile, which in this case is also strong. The book actually was putting bread on the seven, unblock, pay them more. 1985. But this move actually didn't work well at all because after rope T1 to T5, we are amazingly dropping the equivalency five. And black resigned in this position. Like could have tried some tricks, but in any case, the bassoon is really bad after 1984. Why can't simply take the green? And after Daikin, we can blame look to see do we attack the night? The night is not trapped. Only has one square. But after that we can play 1985. And we already have this idea of Dagan rock and play night to F6, forking the king and the rock. In this position, wide blade, the very pretty 1905. So we have an interference because now F6 is not protected. So here we have a combination using an interference. First of all, the king only has one square if they came moves. But after Windows 7, we will just give a tech radar G7, like a new material for free. But then we'll have to move the king, for example, to the eight and then we get a checkmate. The other alternative was to date the night. But now we get a very force in line after D1006 kindred seven is the only legal move. And I would take on a five candidate is actually the only legal novel. That's why this line, at least for us, wrong layer, should not be very hard to calculate because black is just plain, only moves. And now we can play the mortgage of 26. We get I discovered jack on the Queen and we give a check. That's why, why do with when a lot of material in this position, this rope is actually an ion, it's aborted by the Queen. One idea might be to come to a fade. That's why the more Bishop 25 is very useful. First of all, we now plan today the rook, so we're interfering with the defense of the rook. And we also have another thread which is to take the bond energy for, because this point is a DAG with two pieces and only defended by white skin in the game. Dried robe takes and after take in and Dagan like God and extra exchange and won the game. And alternatively, we could have taken and B7. And then after take energy for kinda Edge tool, like has a para position, this was probably a better try. Then here, black coda probably continue like in the game A4. In order to play A3 and bring the rook, activate the rock, which is quite passive there. And here black still has a better position. In this game. We have two very creative players. And wide here dried the move rope to D5. So the idea is to interfere with the defense of the night and we attack the queen. Thus, why black pretty much has to capture the rook. After capturing the rook. Why building of quintic C5, which means the visual black, defended the square one more time. And after taking 95 and dignified, in the end, we got some exchanges, quite got a video by night for open upon. So they exchange of material is roughly equal. So this wasn't necessarily a restaurant moved by it completely change the position and the Cambodia Quincy do. The position was actually very complicated. But in the end, why still managed to win the game? And the last position plaque played. These very nice movement. I do D3. And in this case we have a particular case of interference. We are just not interrupting communication between diabetes, but between the rook and the square. So we're just limiting the activity of the rook on the third rank. So this might be another use of an interference to block obese because we plan to give a check on D3. For example, if white captures a night, would just play bishop. Do the three unwell. Wide can give a bishop, but like we will capture and still can a large advantage. And after kinda D1, we play rock day one. This is the main idea. And after taking, we get this background checkmate. So in this case we have an interference and additionally we have an attack. So this piece is a DAG and division of these has an extra value. Remember when we have more than one thread, normally is red. That's why in this position, wide cannot deal with these two threads of Dagan, the bishop on the one, and blamed each of the three, and then give a background Jack made. And the game will denote D4. But this movie is useless because lipid does capture the bond. Unblock still has this idea now of Les Miserables 23 and still given the same Jack made. And in fact, we had resigned his position. 52. Zugzwang: Welcome back. And now I'm going to talk about a situation on which plane is actually backed. Normally, having the ability to play is good because it gives us more options. But in some situations, that might not be very common. Plane is just bad. So it would be better to pass instead of plane in this position. Wide would love to promote this bond. But black is stopping this bond with the king on the aid and also a DAG and upon. So the only move to protect that bone is a move kinda D6, after which we get a stalemate. So this decision would be a draw. Now let's imagine that we have this simple decision with black to gray. And black actually has only one Move, which is the move kinda C7. And after that, we will just make in 37 and then promoted upon truck when or even to a rock is enough to win. So we get this funny situation on which it is bad to play for white. So white is in toxin if it was why the play, and it is also bad for black to play. So black would also be in toxin if it was obliged to play. And in fact, these positions, we can call them positions of modulus Oksung because we have Assange on both sides, depending on which side it is replay. In this position, it is wise to play what would love to enter the position in order to either support the advance of a bond or to attack this bond. But we see that black skin is stopping wise king. In fact, recall these positions on which kings face each other. We call them opposition. And since here it is y to play, we say that black has the opposition because black is preventing the opponents King from making progress. And sometimes we can do a technique which is called triangulation, which is a way to waste dime in order to reach the same position with the other side of play and hear what plays a move, kinda the four. And if that plays the most natural move, which is kinda C6 in order to adapt the bonds. Then after Kinsey for like only has one move here, kinda D7 to go back. And after kin to the five, we got the situation. Now it is black the play because why display them off kinda default, Kindles E4 and kinda D5. So we'll see how I've made three moves with the king. Unblock made demos with the king to get back to the same position. And now it is like the base, so white, we'll just under the position anymore. That makes here will worsen, lacks position. So black is in Tokyo on here after, Why did this triangulation, for example, if kindred seven, then why can play C6 and have like dx, then this bond will just move forward. I'm like only able to stop it. That's why black and dry, going back to C8 for example, an initial position wide can actually play in 36 with the idea that after came to the aid, we will penetrate into blacks physician after kinda D6. Kinda C8 is the only way to stop kinda C7. And then we Blake in 37 and we'll see how blood is slowly run out of moves. And after kinda B8 came to the seven can create. Here we need to be careful not to play into the seven because there will be a stalemate. But after C6 and taken, the quickest way to win is to play kinda C7. And then we just give a quick check made after C5, B7, promoting drug when I'm going to be six. So in this position we're finding a creative way to waste time in order to allow black to play and to put black into Chrome. And lastly, let me tell you that this idea of Putin Neopolitan took Zheng might happen not only impositions on what you have, just bonds, but may have other business in it was eaten here. White lady move kindred for attacking these rook. We'd actually doesn't have any squares. That's why black plays the move kinda basics in order to at least defended. So what here is not capturing the rug yet, but here we're blade the very nice move, A4, thrown away here. Why this also dry noise diamond, in order to put black into Clang in a situation on which moving the king, for example, would just leave the rock and defended. And in fact, black resigned here, the main born is that black only has pawn moves in order to hold the position. But after a more like a five, then we can just pay B3. I'm like jazz run out of moves. This room doesn't have squares. If light plays B5, then we just come to the bond and the black of the king. We just captured a rogue, like can capture the bishop. But after taken and daikon, we see how after the move, kinda D4. Here it is wide, the one that has the opposition, and white has an extra bond. So this is going to be an easy win for right. There are alternative here was the basics instead of 55. But here I can play before and after B5 or A5, we just pay another way move. And we bought black into clone. So generally speaking, subsonic region on which plane wasn't the position. And keep in mind this idea of force in your opponent into that situation. 53. Pawn Breakthrough: Hey, there. And now we'll talk about adaptive, which is really important to create a bus barn. And in fact, we've already seen a situation like this when we discuss about Susan. And in this position, I discussed about the idea of triangulation in order to make black move my blend of kinda D4. And then after kinda C6, King desc for in the seven, kinda 5, the ADA is that wide will finally penetrate after Hindus, Sikhs can D8. We saw this position on the main idea in the end was to break through with the move C6. Here, kinda C7 would actually be very bad, would be a statement. But after C6, we are able to win with this be paan, which is a past bond because it doesn't have any other bond that can stop it. And after kinda C7, we would just promote an EVA Jack made. Now this idea of bringing through in a bond even at the cost of sacrificing upon is very important because past bonds can be very powerful. Particularly when you have a few pieces on the board because it becomes harder to stop the backbone. In this position, like actually has to pass bonds. White only has one. And actually, if we move the king, it would be really bad. For example, after King graph too, then like humbly H2, I'm like, Well just promote the bond because there's no way to stop it. So at first sight, whites position looks desperate. In fact, was king is doing a good job on D1, stopping the two bonds at once. But if it has to move the king, then it will be really bad. So it seems that white is in socks on here. But out of nowhere what played in a very brilliant E5. So we always need to be allowed about these ideas to create boss bonds, even at the cost of sacrificing one born or more. And in fact, this move completely changes the situation. First of all, black cannot take the bond with the king because they spawn will just advance. And if like captors, the past Gibbon, then y would just capture on D6. And after taking, otherwise, we'll just push or even capture. And C7. White base m of C7, and white is the one remoting whites king is still stopping these two bonds. So why does one year? And after DDGS E5, which was playing the game, what continue with the move D6? Even another point in order to create another passband. Black can deal with the move FOR by. In any case after the seven, like resigned, this is good more because white we'll just promote with Jack. And if like pace kindred seven, then the other bond with the mode and wide will stop this ponds with the Queen. And again, this idea is not limited to positions on which we only have kings and bonds. We might have other pieces. Here. Black's position looks very good at first sight, like has a very active rook. Bergman plan to play group to be 4, to adapt this bone, digging on C6 looks quite active, but probably black missed white idea, which is the move E6, planning retake. That's why black took the bond. And here whites follow-up was really good because after F7 lag may be able to stop the bond with the move up to the aid and look to F7. Hamlet should be doing fine here. But why play the movie Rock Dwayne Wade, which supports the promotion of the bone, like playgroup to the seven, stopping the advance. But after again, do we do why does just activating the gain? And again, Virginia B5, R2P to C8, kinda D6. And then after kinda for one idea is to bring the king 2D6 and then somebody advance of the bond. And we see how wide is now the one having the more active disease. And this one F6 will normally cost like a rock, like dried to complicate the position where the most C4, but that didn't change the position and wide Warner fuels. So keep in mind this idea of a pond breakthrough, which is to create a backbone that cannot be stopped or that will cost newborn and a lot of material. And this idea becomes particularly strong when you have fewer pieces on the board. Since passed, bonds become harder to stop in these cases. 54. Activity - Zugzwang and Pawn Breakthrough: Let's practice what we just learned in this first position. Let me know how you continue as white. In this position. Let me know what you would play if you're black. In this position, like is a bizarre, but why does try and hold the position? And in fact, black one disposition after playing a very strong move. So try to find out how the Darwinian position, and let me give you a hint. Blood move the king in this position. In this position, dry defined a strong move for black. In the position it was a black to play, but black resigned. So let's try to understand why unfolded. The main question would be, what would happen after lag plays him off kinda C6, Howard wide continue. In this position. We're going to really see at first sight that black has interactive pieces. So now the question is, how can lag may progress in his position? So try to find out how the game continued in this position. Let me know how you would continue as white. And in this last position, try to find a strong continuation for white. 55. Activity Solution: In the first position we have equinoctial, but we're going to receive that whites king is more active looking at this bond and the more default here is very strong because we are already limited in lakhs options. A lot library resigned in this position. But first of all, the king cannot move without losing a bond. And if black dries to wait with the move like A6, then we can play even the movie for. And the idea is that after A5 white Candida waste time with kindred five or H3. And after that, the gain has to move because like doesn't have any other reasonable moves. And after, Let's say kinda 35, we just capture upon. And then we have this very strong backbone. And white would win very easily. In the second position, it might be tempting to take the rook, even in that case, black is doing fine because like has great business. But we can see that whites position is just very passive and like has more than one move here. But the queen draft 3 is particularly strong and symbol because we take advantage of these absolute been that the rock has. And why I resigned in this position because they are basically normals. White can sacrifice this bond. But after dig in that bond, what literally doesn't have any good move? Move the king. Then we just capture a full rook, white dwarfs the night. Then we give a tag made on each one. Drug is. And if the liquid moves, for example, to a one, then we just give a check made on Udot. This rock is pinned so it cannot capture the queen. So this move window of three really ties down wide. And we can see that even though normally we get to this took land positions with very few business on the board. In some cases, we can have these situations where the opponent has several business and still cannot play any reasonable in this game. Library love to capture the rook, paramour Lie group to be three, mad with kindred to defending the rock. Does y live? Would like to make acquired move in order to make this rook leave the a3 square and capture it with a discovery check. And he had the move kinda D5. Is Deseret strong? Why resign here? If the rope moves, for example, 25 or Daniela square, we just give a discovered tag within a tag on the rook, and then we just win very easily. And white doesn't have any good moves after roadway to weaken labor up to be three, and then we just capture the rope, they only move for wider stop. Tagging is roped to be due and then recovered over the base. We need to be careful not to capture what the rock, because this is a stalemate where we just capture with the bishop and when this position. So the move kinda D5 was very strong, but other moves, for example, came to be five, or kinda C5 wouldn't be strong because here y can drag this idea of sacrificing material in order to reach a stalemate. Here, why can try them all roadway 5. So this wouldn't be at all similar after kinda C5 wagon driver to C3, giving tags in order to read a STEMI position. So the strong Wolfe was a move kinda D5 in this position, like has much more active feces. And the movies of drift do is rename, taken advantage of the spin so the rule cannot capture the Bishop. Why doesn't have any good moves anymore? Why the queen will just lose these Ruben U3. And additionally now black has these very strong thread of quandary one, even attack, an attack and the queen also widescreen anamorphic. So this is just a desperate position for wide and disposition. Why resigned? In this game, black resigned because lag is unable to stop the bonds. The most logical conclusion here is to play kinda C6 in order to defend this point and try to ping the king closer to the bonds in order to stop them. But why has the move F6? And after taken, what has two options? Either to Diego to advance. In most cases, what gets a backbone by taking our F6 would be very bad because after kinda D6 isn't time to stop the bond. But instead, after D6 lag is unable to stop the bond. In this position, like make use of this idea of creating a backbone After the most S3, we just plan to push the bond. That's why white capture and after the move tool blind promote black will gain material after rope dx. So here we are deflecting the rock from the tool. And then like just captured the bishop. And in the end, lag is a piece up for two bonds having a better position. So black managed to win this game. In this position we have another nice pond breakthrough. Y seems to be defendant here to under stop lags in major where the king, but here, why build a very nice A5? And this was a young black resigned. The main ideas I want to push A6 and promote an after-dinner E5, B6, we blend or DESC. And after digging a B6 will just push the bond and be promoting first. And y will be in time to stop blacks been in this position, y has a very strong postpone on the seven. White could defend this bone. Vitamin stronger is the move V6. That just creates a very strong backbone. And after dig in and A6, A7, black resigned in this position. Quite just plants to promote. And when a rock and if like decks on B7, then y will just promote. And there is an additional idea behind it is that after dig in, we promote, will give attack. And after taking the eight, we get these very well-known background tag mate. 56. Outro - More Chess Tactics: Great, So we have learned many more tactics in this section. So far, we had studied mainly the idea of attacking two or more pieces in order to gain something. But we've seen that in some cases, attack in a single piece is good enough to gain an advantage. We also learned an indirect way of when opposition, which consist on blocking the communication between two pieces. So that in this situation, one of these quizzes will not be defended anymore. After that, we learned this idea that sometimes playing can be occurs and that we can try to force our opponent into that situation. And after that, we learned how passed pawns can sometimes be extremely borrow full to the point that we can give one or more ponds for that. So I'm happy that we're learning new ideas, including more advanced tactics that you can now try to use in your games. 57. Intro - Great Tactical Games: Hello again. In this section we're going to study some great tactical games. And how are we going to proceed? I'm going to first give you some pathogens to analyze. And then in the solution, I'll give you the answer and the full analysis of the game. These games contain lots of practical ideas and in discourse we also studied loss of tactics. So to help you here, I bought a summary of everything that we learned in this course. So I hope that this summary will help you find the ideas more easily. So Magda, the chessboard, to start analyzing the games. 58. Activity - Anderssen vs Kieseritzky: All right, so let's start with the first game in this first position. Let me ask you if black has any threat. So how can we know that? Let's imagine that we play any random move or any move that were in effect the position. And Lord, for example, if replay a3, does a black have any threat? In the second position, we see that these major bombing five is men attacked. Then they ask you to evaluate the possible moves that while you can play here. In this position that we know how black continue after the move Bishop takes on. Here, Let me know how you would continue as white in this position. Besides moving the rock which is currently being integrated Bishop, let me know what other moves can you consider in this position? And in this last position, let me know how you would continue. And let me give you a hint. Tried to find a Jack made. 59. The Immortal Game: All right, so let's analyze these fantastic game. And the first provide some information about this game. It was played by UDL funder son who was adopt layer from Prussia against Lionel kids Risky, who was a very strong player from the time. This game was played in 1851. And it was a casual game. Sudden things that I would like to say about this. The fact that is a casual game probably influenced DCM because when we play casual games, as opposed to documents games, we tend to play more relaxed. And sometimes we play more creatively because we don't care too much about losing. So this fact might have influenced this game. Another fact that definitely influenced in this game is the fact that it was played in 1851. And chairs at that time was completely different. We were in a romantic era, not only ingest bad in other arts like music. And at that time the idea of plain long-term games, planning lot using strategy didn't exist, or at least it was not taken that seriously. So games at that time were purely tactical, are very closer that some of the themes that we see in these games are troubling apiece. Sacrifices, a lot of sacrifices. Checkpoint ideas, interferences on another idea which relates to the opening, which is the importance of development. Now this game is far from being perfect by today's standards, but just has really evolved a lot. So it wouldn't be fair to judge it that way. What I can tell you is that the beauty of the combinations that we see hasn't been rivaled by many feature names. Let's now get started under son, started with the move E4, which is the Kingsmen opening. I will not focus too much on the opening state, but rather on the technical ideas by in any case, moving this point on the first move normally leads to more open positions, more attacking positions. So at that time, this was by far the most common move. Nowadays we also play in a legendary for other moves very often like one D4 night to have three, S4, just to mention a few, like RBI with the move E5, which was and still is a very common reply. And will reply with a very aggressive move FOR which is called the King's gambit. I gambit is basically a sacrifice that within your brain. In this case, the main idea of the sacrifice is to gain control of the center after Black takes, then sooner or later, will try to play the movie before. And in the game like accepted the gamet just wanted to say that this gamete doesn't have to be accepted or low it is okay to accepted black and blame many different ideas in this position, for example, which obviously five is also a sensible move because we develop a piece. In his case, what cannot take any five, because after digging the five here, black and give a check. And white has two options whether to play King, do we do after which we did only for or D3. After taking only four. We get this fork on the king. And the rogue. In any case, black accepted the gambit here. Why it has many options are safer. One is to develop the night. We have three. Another one is to blame each of the C4, which is very aggressive. These big job is already trying to adapt this one on F7, but this move allows Quinto H4, which gives a check. And why continued keen to have one. So why won't be able to castle anymore? Normally gasoline is good to bring the kingdom safety body one possible in this case. But why doesn't have a lot of options? Playing into a dual might be an alternative, but the king doesn't look very well there. I'm playing D3 is just bad because black and capture, and we have the spin on this bond. And for example, after night draft three, like a neon blade name of Jiddu, given a check and a DAG in the rock. And here, although white can capture the green, black will just capture the rock and promote it is at the big idea in this position. So after kindred one here, black played a very aggressive, more palladium or B5. So does one-dimension here, although this is not a course about openings, that in openings it is critical to develop basis. So here black could have considered move like B6 to play, nice to have six, or even night RefSeq straight away was very interesting. Basically black has to develop disease, tried to Castle Ring, they kinda safety. Plague is a bone up so far, and that should be fine. Here parabolic black was afraid of the move E5. But black here has alternatives. One idea is to play nitrogen for which threatens or Tagamet on F2 with the queen. And also keep on developing and tried to attack this bond. Another idea which is DB goal here is to play the move D5. So remember always this idea that we should analyze, forcing moved first. So here, even though the night and F6 is being adapt, we can play the movie. And these wolf has many purposes. One of them is to adopt the visual, but another one is to give some squares for the bishop to develop. Unlike should be doing great here. If white gap doesn't F6, who, then we just calculate the VCE job. If white retreats with the bishop, then we can play nicely for. And white is not in damned to capture because we just give a check made. So blood should be doing fine in this position. This Kinsey ambit is very aggressive bandwidth, correct? Play lab should be doing more than fine. But Blackberry, the MOOC B5, just sacrificing upon only to deflect these Bishop from this diagonal because these visual on this diagonal normally going to be very aggressive. So Black Death sacrifice are born to deflect these major. So these movies very aggressive but probably not necessary. And only after that, like developed with the movie night to F6 and after night we have three, we attack the queen window H6. Now why defends this bond before and after night to H5? Here was the first exercise. First of all, I want to say that the moment I do H5 is again, probably not the best because we want to develop in the Oberlin. And moving at least twice during night to F6. And nitrate 5 is risky. By any case, like has an idea. For example, if white plays any random move. Then lag may have this idea of ln nitrogen three. And we get these night fork because the barn H2 is pinned. Stuff to take in, like we just captured the ROCC. So why it has taken that into account? Why continue with the movie night to H4? Which is also quite ambitious because he wants to attack with the moment I do F5. And after winter G5, night we have five library. They move C6, a DAG, and the bishop. And here's where I asked you to evaluate possible moves. For sure we should evaluate moving the bishop to C4 or DRE for. But it is always interesting to evaluate other aggressive alternatives. One idea was to play the movie H4, but this movie has a drawback that now this is available for the night, like and play first required move and drag to play 1933 sooner or later. So these movies probably not the best idea. They are alternative that was played in the game was a very nice G4. So now we can do a DAG because now we attack the night on H5. And why ideas at this point on the forest pinned because the bishop would be capturing the queen after f takes and G3. And here black freedom of night to F6. So now black has an idea to capture in D4 and to also capture the purpose of black has a double thread here being h4 will allow queen data 24. But I started playing now really the moves, very brilliant moves while I played him overlook do d1 first. Just sacrificing a piece like took the BCE, which is really hard, again to judge black for this lag might have tried, for example, pain D5, trying to develop the pieces. Binary case is really hard to see what happened in the game in Atlantis. So after Daikin well played him of H4. So we see that the queen doesn't have a lot of squares, only one square. But after going to D6, I actually ask you what will happen after the in the bond because taking the bone looks very damned in we went upon and we plan to drop the queen by. In this case, lag would have move. I'm like actually can save the queen when IDS played him move HCX. Having the square for the win. But even better is the move H5, because the movie H5 gives us great for the Queen, but also add tags and G4. So remember this idea that we need to evaluate forcing moves even when we defend. This is in fact a great way to defend in general, to try to find active moves. And all. If you don't find any good a DAG and moves, only then you can play passive mode. So HCX is more passive than 85. And in this case, 85 is a better move, like is obese AB. And we'll have good control of the default square. For example, after D5, these Nikon camera G4 or black might even have a liberal idea, which is the move 1935. The boy being that degree D5, would deflect the bond, unblock and captured the night. With that in mind, why play them move H5. And after a Windows E5, we get the next question that he asked here. What is obese down? So why it has to be very aggressive? And wearability MOOC window of three, planning to drop the equation after Mitch uptakes and 4. And the only way to save the piece here for black is to go back with the moon 1938. And after beach uptakes. Here, black actually played correctly because likes position will be just very miserable after Quinta, the aid, like literally has all of the business on the shrank quite is obese down four upon. But we see that white has all the development and this position in a practical game, it's just too hard to defend. And after quintile F6, white develop the night, night might come to D5. Lie can deal with the more Bishop 25. And this was a genome-wide could have considered moving the rock. But if we follow this principle or finding foresee moves, we see that white has a lot of options. As I would the options that we're not so good. E5 looks tempting at first sight because we attack the queen and we have our Discover tab on the rock. But after a window, C6 lag is dealing with those two threads. And our alternative was to play the more G5, which is actually very strong because white really wants to capture these policies. Evan give a check and red or dark black skin. Another industry idea was to play the movie D4. At the point is that after taking the bone, we play 1985 and the queen doesn't have the square g do because there's a bishop and the four are, the white is still a DAG in as a game, without even any chondroblast of the axon is would have been very strong as well. Another move was evolved metaphysics. So if you saw this movie, then you're probably stronger than understand himself because it was just a very strong move. And the idea is that after B-sharp decks were blind eye to the five are now the queen is tied to defend this bishop 30 if the queen takes on B2 and then we just capture the visual check. And if Quinto he seeks, then we get these nine fork. So don't worry if you get lost a bit in all these nice. The game was really complex. That's what really made this game amazing. Why continue with another move, which is what I would call the romantic move, jazz, sacrificing absolutely everything. And after quintics we do, most of us here would probably play 1987 to fork, nicking and rock. Then broadly move this Rogan A1 and tried to gain material back. But this is not what Anderson had in mind and doesn't just wanted to give a tech made and played this move, which is just absolutely amazing, which of the disease sacrificing rocks. Now this is objectively possibly not the best played by white, but again, it's difficult to judge all these so many years after. And having a completely different understanding of the game. Here, black captured the rook on D1. The other alternative was to play when dc1, and after it kinda redo taken rook with the supposition that I asked you to analyze. After nine days, G7, kinda the aid. And Mitchell disease salmon. We get a very pretty tech made with the Tonight's and the bishop. But after Quinn dc1 can do E2. There was an idea which could have changed the outcome of the game. In any case, I think that he was really difficult to see these during the game. The idea was to play Quinta we do, which has an idea to take on C do not being too greedy, capturing the Rogan D1 by trained to look for more active camera lay. And one important point is that after Bishop takes them like can take on C dual and fork the king and the bishop. Another important point is that now the queen is defending seven. So wide cannot capture immediately. And E7 will have two-way stand with the movie E5. And after kinda the door defending this bond. Now why does planning to negative 5 plaque and Dagan G1 and after E5, if we follow the same idea that was playing the game here, black had this idea of more indivisible seed to give space to the king. Not sure if all these moves can be easily found in again, but at least I want to mention that lack seem to have a defense. One idea is to blame each other to A6. And if right goes for night decks, Then the king will try to come to be seven. And here y can Dr. Blaine agency seven, gaining back some material. While still is a lot of material down. But with these two kings so exposed, it is really hard to understand what goes on here. So this whole idea of giving the Turks after the move, Michelle 26, although it was beautiful, it was poverty not necessary because white had other similar Jana dvz by navigates, the game had a very nice finish. Instead of taking on a one like capture the Rogan U1. On here came one of the nicest interference movie I've ever seen, where blade remove E5. Why does just isolating the Queen from defending D7? Bad sacrificing a full rock for that, like capture on a one. And after kindred, do we see that white is two rooks and obese down so far that I continue with the move. Night 36, missing and tag me. Black should have insisted with the same idea of mesh of doing seeks is after night to A6. White gets a forced Tech made. A very similar idea to attack me that we've seen after 1967. Now we see that the bishop cannot give IT greater seven because C7 is covered by night. Part here, white finish the game in style, play the move quandary F6, very forest in black only has one move, which is night decks. And we see that the knight was deflected from G8 to F6. And now after breach of duty 7. So now we get a very similar degrade with the bishop of the seven instead of C7. So we get this very nice technique parallel with three minor BCS. Let me remind you that wide is a queen, two rooks and obese down. So this was a great game to see many different tactic ideas in action. 60. Activity - Carlsen vs Caruana: All right, so let's analyze another game. And before that I give you some positions for you to analyze. In this first position, let me know if the G5 for black wins upon or not. Human disposition. Let me know. What's the idea behind the bishop, the C7. In this position, we have this bishop given a check. So black will nominate, try to capture that Bishop. Try to find out what would happen if black captures the bishop with the queen. Here, let me know. Where would you move the cane. We have a double-check with the rock and the night, so the king has to move. So let me know. Where would you move the game in this position, we have a knight fork. So black will know my drive to save the queen, which is the stronger base. So let me know where you would move the Queen in his position. Try to find a way to attack white stroke on their fate. In this position. Try to find the strongest confirmation for black. Like is there are a lot of material here, so black should find a DAG and moves in this position, try to find a strong attenuation for black. And here, what is about to promote this bond? So try to find a way to stop that one. 61. A Flurry of Tactics: Great, so don't worry if you found some of the exercises hard because we are analyzing a game played by two very strong players. Probably they don't need introduction, but just in case Magnus Carlsen became more jumbled in 2013. And phi inner corona has been a top layer for many, many years. These game was played in 2014. And Fabriano Corona had an amazing document within the first seven games, something that is really hard to imagine at this level. And in this game, he also played a brilliant game. Some of the ideas that we'll see in this game are forks, pins, discover attacks, checkmate counterattacks, trapezius, deflections, and last but not least, very ambitious play on both sides. The game started with the movie for unblock, Gandhi would move E5. Here we have many options. Currently, even the most C5 might even be a bit more popular than a five by five is perfectly playable. And here I can. White has many options. Night to F3 is the most common move to attack this bond. But white continue with the move vg plus C4, which is called the bishops opening because we develop the bishop first. Black continue with the movie night to F6, logical to develop and adapt this Barney for the game when you're D3, defending the bone black Andrea with C6. Also nitrate C6 is perfectly logical. Continually night we have three here, black instead of defending this Pantone 5, first play the movie D5. White gap, the tangent with the membership degree three, black Gandhian with the bishop the before. This is a saddle moving visual D6 straight away was also possible. Just wanted to mention that Daikin only for is not the best continuation here. What would not capture 95, actually capturing the 50 debarred because after Queen 35, we get this fork. We saw similar idea when we started forks. But after Nitrogen 5, y has these annoying brush on F7, so it's very difficult to defend that pawn. So definitely 40 on the very good because of 1945, but not because of night. Takes E5. And after bishop to be for Web, continue with the more C3 vision of 32000 possible. The movement is actually not very good distributor in 1983 because here after the four, we get this pin and wide cannot break this bin because after A3 lie would just play, which are 25 and luggage willing material because there's no way to defend the night. And after S3, which of the six whereby the movement of the G5, which is interesting to pin the night, putting pressure on the five as well. So now black captured on before and after dignity for blackbody moves H6 and wide kept the pressure on this diagonal. And here's where I asked you about the more G5. G5 might be playable, although in some cases it may make the square available for a peace is a bit risky. But even here after the mortgage of DDR3, black is not when a bond after Daguerre any form because while you can simply capture with the bishop 45 to 50, the night would be risky at best because hero, like an remove this defender taken or G3 and then blend today 25. Although here what my dried to complicate the position would be shoved takes been taken or if i what the visual is much similar. Like didn't play the more G5 blood played Queen 37. Why develop denied Black Knight be to D7? Kosslyn was possible, but black wants to give some flexibility in that position. What continuing with me, jump to G3. And here, Blackberry they move Bishop disease seven. And this is a subtle idea. The idea is that there is some x-ray attack on the bishop with the queen. So the move an agency for might've come and attack the visual. Thus why black is anticipating this idea? It is not forced at all in this position. White Castle after that. And here black played on ambitious move night to age five, as we saw when we analyze the moron game, moving a piece several times in the urban might be risky. In this case, black is just one move away from gasoline. So it makes more sense, like wants to either capture the bishop or bringing the night to a form to a more active square. He was, played him over 83, keeping some ideas to recreate with the bishop. And after daikon and daikon. Now why it has the file for the rook. And here black continue Blaine ambitiously playing them all night to C5. Like has this idea of lane width to bishops against tonight that in many cases are stronger than tonight. Here we have Magnus Carlsen, so definitely millimeters player didn't play passively. For example, just moving the bishop to see door or playing quietly. That was actually possible. But instead, capture and F7 in a way trying to punish a black for moving pieces several times in the open. And this idea is very interesting, although it is very sharp and black capture with the King, which is a great reply because capturing when the queen is a bit subtle. But the idea is that after 1965, we get these, discover a tag on the queen. And if the queen moves, then white has this idea of link window h5, which is really annoying because we are attacking the king. The king really doesn't have words squares because the file is controlled. If it goes through the defile, then I wrote my always come. So the king is really suffering here. And after I can do 7, we will get this fork and white is doing great here. And idea was to give the queen in this position by playing Quinn takes. But after taking, an important point is that this move is not possible or wouldn't be very strong. Because why it has this fork with the queen, otherwise, like what we're doing. Finally, if black can manage to Castle, because materially black is doing fine. But after Quinto age five, lag would lose the job. And we have in our physician even materially down. That's why in this game, none of the players curves too much of our material, but they care about attacking or their own kin safety. I'm like capture with the king. And after 1965, we get this double-check. I'm black played very well plane the move kinda G8. Other alternatives we're not really good after kinda yeah, eight, we get the similar idea of when Jack are dragging the king or given a fork. And after kinda E6, why can just force a checkmate with the move window before and after again densify for kinda D6, we get the similar checkmate after 1984. That's why the move kinda G8 is very good. Y to continue with this. Recurrent idea of forgiven. And here again, black paid a strong move. I asked you to tell me why would you move the Quinn Quinn do D5 is very natural, very derived. It attacks the night. The barn also plans to come to a3. Blood moves for example, a window D6 was an idea. But why we'll continue with group to a fade. And here there's a very subtle tactical point is that after kindred seven root dx, if kinda takes here white has the very strong rope day C8. And the bond is that after taking, we get this form. This form wouldn't be possible without going on G5. But now here, why does when new material after Quinta D6 and group two a fade, there is this idea of giving the queen materially black shouldn't be doing very bad. And their position might be a bit unclear. But honestly, I think is much harder for black to play because black doesn't have good coordination with the pieces. So this was an option, but from a practical point of view, I will prefer what was playing in the game. So after the move Windows E5, like doesn't grow much about material, but more about developing organ geotagging after rope to a fade. Kindred seven, right, capture the rope. And here is where I asked you about how to attack this record fade. There are many ways drug target. One of them is blamed which of the disease. But here why might try to keep it a bin with the most appropriate? And other ways are, one is to play the mortgage uptakes 83, which is actually interesting to try to counterattack after Windows E3. And even more forcing because we attack the queen is the move that was played in the game which up to D4, which is really nice because we see that this point is NH3, a DAG individual, but it was still develop it in order to attack the rural gonna fade. And important point is that whenever we captured this Reuben a fade, This night will also normally fall. It will be trapped. That's why these night on a jade is not a variable based normally, nice inner corners are not very good business. And he would continue with the Move going to have one which is logical defend in Iraq. If white captures the bishop than black and simply exchanged queens. And then just capture the rock. And then this night, we'll fall. Unblock will be obese haben the end. Thus why I will continue with the MOOC going to have one, keeping the defense of the rook. And here game another amazing move, probably the nicest deflection I ever seen, which is the move nitrogen E3, inviting the window, go to the three and then fade. Which is what happened in the game. But sometimes what doesn't happen in a game is even more interesting than what happens in the game. What would happen if wide Gibson mean 3D? For example, taking rook on aid is redundant because we just capture a full rook. And here's where I asked you to find a good continuation for black. So black is a lot of material down. So taking this night on the do, it is not blacks idea to recover a night after sacrificing a lot of material. And as it happens very often, the more force in moves are the strongest one. So here the idea was to Blake when R33 even a jack, just want to mention that given a check with the bishop instead, wouldn't be very strong because now the king can go to H2. And we actually want to keep the bishop on this diagonal to put pressure on the king. And after Quinn 33 kindred one is the only logical move because if the king goes to H2, which has captured in G3. And here there's an idea to do with the queen is quite interesting and complicated. But after analyzing this game a lot, again, the most forced removal was the strongest. Uneven the symbols in this case night to F2, which is a jack. And the idea is that after kinda D1 black stars, given a lot of these cover checks, first night 84. Given a check, kindred won, the game can never go to 80 because we're just capturing on d3. And then after capturing with the night, we would just when material now again cannot go to G1 because we have the quinone 3. And after again do it, do we just collect the queen because we have discovered check. Actually it's a label tag. And after kindred one, nitrogen three kindred to we will just maneuver when denied, unforced, ejaculated after night. We do kindred one. We have this battery with the queen and the bishop. And Quinto H2 with gamma or soon and be attacked, made it dries night. We have three regions capture with the bishop. And then we just give a Jack made. Although the lines can be very complicated, the main idea was to a DAG with the movie when R33 using all black pieces, these are very important principle when we attack. Here, black has four pieces trying to attack the king and only the queen defending. That's why at first sight we can erase it that this attack is very dangerous. And I'll idea after kindred one was to sacrifice a queen after night OF to, but black will win the queen. Black is not even materially down here and still keep this idea to attack the gain. So this position is still better for black. So taking the rock wasn't very good. Capturing the bishop was an alternative. And after a quandary three, like we'll follow up with a very similar idea, our DAG in the king and getting an advantage. It has 12 briefly show the line after kindred one. Here we're gonna give a check because the rock is an F8 and the queen controlling the F2 square. But like an first exchange rooks and then give a check and follow up with a similar idea. So in this case, we play them overnight to the one. So the attack is a bit different, but the principle is the same. We play a movement ended the one in this case, which is an interference between the rock and the king. And after again, H1 Windex will blend to give a Jack made on the first rank, like his own exchanged down still drain dry dock. Like has a much better position. And why do I tried to give up her bed while tag lag is able to escape. For example, after the MOOC window of five can takes Quinta C8, nicking is able to escape. So these are very complicated lines, not necessarily forced, but just wanted to show the main ideas that black hat in the position. So with these ideas in mind, Carlsen played the Queen takes, which is actually good because the other guys were bad, really bad for wide, bad after Daguerre and E3 and capturing rook. Now, like we'll get this night, and in the end, the material is roughly equal. Bad black still has where a pieces and white skin is exposed. And again, continued. Agent tasty for black doesn't hurry to take this night like caviar and before the game guardian your night to have three quintics Here wide instead of defending ours position was king is going to be a dark black, is going to get the material back wide correctly. Tried to look for kind of lay my beanie move E5 and trying to push this postpone, normally pass bonds are much stronger in endings. But even here, this postpone might annoy black. But in any case, black defendant correctly. After if I forget, discover check, but like after denied and after E6, which have to be six check kindred. One window D4, Quinto D6, defending on paper and to support this bond. So black has to be a bit careful. Black has a better position, but has to be a bit careful. Like continue playing actively after up to the eight queens V5, group D5. Going to be eight, kindred seven, white push the boundary seven. Trying to capture material here wouldn't make a lot of sense. In fact, even here, black has checkmate ideas. That's why I spoke that white skin is exposed after up to age five, black can actually force a checkmate. E7 is way more logical. And after Queen do H5, what probably didn't want to play the movie window H2, because after windows eight, black will end up owning this bond, which is the only chance for camera play that white has. Because here we blended, take this one and also play them overlook to age five being the queen. And instead, while braiding move, nitrates do. But this is actually even worse because black will be able to win a full BCE after the mook to the one. Trying to give this background Jack made. And after Daikin and Dagan, white can avoid these background Jack made but has to give a full piece. And after taking the night kindred to black Service Hub, but black has to stop these E7 bone. And in fact, like pay the simplest way window G1. And in this position wide resign because after kindred x3 or kinda Guthrie will just give a check for organ, the king and upon. And after that, being obese Up is quite an easy win for black. 62. Next Steps and Goodbye: Well done. We're reaching the end of this course. Let me tell you a few things before I say goodbye. First, I revert a few gifts for you. Throughout this course, we saw some open interrupts, so I decided to combine them in one file and even add a few more. Second, I created a list of instructive tactical games that you might want to analyze. Remember that here you can use the summary that will help you from the standard tactical ideas about your chest progress. If you've had enough food tactics, then I suggest that you study strategy if you haven't already. Combining your strategic understanding where your technical understanding is great, when you have a good overall and standing is easier to get good positions that you can exploit tactically. So knowing strategy is also great in addition to tactics. So that's it for now. It was re-doing discourse and sharing time with you. Please share your feedback because it really helps me to prepare more content. I hope that you enjoyed the course and I hope to see you again soon.
