They re, I'm sure you will enjoy discovering a new way to manipulate oil pastels on the surface to create allow the effect for your turnings. So let's have a look at what we are going to do in this class. First, fill, gather all the needed materials in advance. As usually when you work with Elbaz tells you won't need that much. You will learn more about it in the tools and materials lesson. And we will discover smearing technique, how to use it, whether the cells. We will also practice this technique together. Class Project: As a graduate port is class first baptist mirroring technique using your oil pastels. After that, you can create your own floral drawing using the stick. Practice mirroring technique will help you to discover and train your oil blast cells when new skills. And once you are done, you will be ready to use this new antigenic technique for creating animation drawing process was practicing and drawing results. I will be happy to see your progress and answer any questions you might have. 4. Tools & Materials: And this of tools and materials for these classes really short. You won't need much to learn smearing technique. All you're gonna need is some oil pastels, some vapor masking tape, and just FU paper towel. But let's have a closer look at those materials. Suffers. Oil pastels. I always recommend my students to use the west well, but sell quality they can afford the best quality oil pastels bend much better, which is crucial for smearing technique. You will also need a surface to work on. Good surfaces for oil pastels includes canvas, watercolor, paper, but sell, buy, buy and much more. For these glass, I recommend you to use colored oil pastel paper. It will work the best for smearing technique. Colored out onto paper will create a great background for our flowers. The quality of paper for these techniques should be smooth, yet still have enough thickness and texture for the pigment and binder to badge on it. Once you have your surface prepared, Make sure it's secured tightly to theirs or board. For that, you can use masking tape. You want to surfer secured. If you are going to use smear in technique, then you just need a few layers of towels to clean your oil pastels, takes and fingers as you will use them a lot. And you're good to go. 5. Discovering Smearing Technique: In this lesson, we will discover what's marine technique actually is. And we will practice created each Before we start working on our floor talking in the next lesson, smearing as an intentional oil pastels technique holds limitless possibilities to get creative. It has a soft or blur effect, as well as an illusion of motion, mystery, or distance. You can also achieve a variety of colors and changing first mirroring. The effect you create by using this technique depends on your intention. And once you are drawing, the best way to use the potential of smearing technique to the fullest is to experiment with how you smear oil pastels and to practice on achieving a range of different effects. And as you play around with List technique, you will get comfortable with them manipulating oil pastels, and smearing them intuitively. So how do you smear oil by cells? The short answer is, you do it with your fingers. Now let's have a closer look on how to create smearing with ourselves. And let's practice it together. So the first thing you want to do is to actually apply oil pastels. So I'm layering just a few colors. And when I'm doing it, I'm using heavy pressure to make sure the layer of pigment is thick and it will smear easily. And after you have layer the oil bust cells, you can now use your fingers. Just mirror the medium using directional strokes. The nature of oil pastels makes this medium perfect to simply use your fingers. Having a direct contact with the cells will help you to feel the medial and manipulate it in the knitr directions. Just make sure you clean your fingers before moving on to the next area of the charming. Otherwise there's a risk of mixing the colors. We don't want to make. 6. Sketching: So now that we have learned more about smearing technique and practiced smearing oil pastels. Let's finally use this new skill to create oil pastel drawing using this technique. First, let's have our surface prepared using masking tape, secure your paper, typed it to a desk or work. As we have going to smear oil pastels are on the surface a lot. We want our surface secured. And now let's sketch our flowers in loss. For the sketch, I'm using yellow ochre pastel. And I want to start by dividing the US. First, let's make a mark of a bottom and a top lines of the bus. So it will be easier for us to sketch it. And now you can define the shape of the class. I want mine to be small and round. Once you have established the shape of your mouth, you can now sketch some flowers. Don't invest too much time into it. Just create a few simple random shapes. Or for your flowers. This way it will be easier for you to start drawing and you will establish the overall shape and size of the Buchet. 7. First Touch Of Color: Now that we have established the shapes for flowers, let's add the first stage of colors to them. As we have already established for this mirroring technique. First we layer oil pastels, and then these mirror them with our fingers. Some gonna layer at least few colors to the flowers before I smear pigment. And I'm starting at the center of each fiber assembly machine, the color palette and directions. And they keep layering. Oil pastels isn't multiply colors like red light wet, and thread, violet light, some yellow and other colors as you wish. I let them blend together a bit as a layer more pigment. And as you can see, I'm leaving some gaps between colors. I'm not covering all the area because later I will smear oil bust cells, or I will add more oil bust cells depending on the colors and effects I want to achieve each flower. At this stage of the trauma in Korea, just trying to set the overall scenario of a pocket assembly so the shapes of flowers and add humane colors to them. So keep layering oil pastels until you create a good base for the next stage of the drawing. Then we will add more depth, shadows and colors by using this technique. Okay. 8. Smearing Oil Pastel: Now that we have layered enough oil pastels may can finally smear some big man to make a flower. Small, mystical and dynamic. So let's work on each flower one-by-one. What I really like to do when I'm using this technique is to layer some final strokes of oil pastels before I smear them with my finger. So here I'm applying human handed strokes of red violet oil bust cells in a flower. And now I can smear it than my finger. And you can instantly see the difference. If grids with just a few simple movements, you can add more depth to the flower and you create a sort of really light shadow. If you want to add more highlights sort of longer, you can apply some light colors too, like white or yellow. Here I'm a black and white oil bust cells with the pressure. And once again, I smear it with my fingers. If you smear sound light colors on the sides, you can get these lovely semi-transparent effect. This effect makes our flowers in a certain way moralistic and yet fairly entering like so like that. Let's move to the next power in our book. Yet. Once again, on top of the flower, I am applying some more oil pastels to make sure I have enough bitmen to smear around the surface. First, I want to layer and smear some red violet per cell to add more texture and depth to the flower. So i'm joined few battles and then I smear them in one direction. Then they want to add some wide here to create a few highlights SVD to it with the previous flower. Now I feel like please follow needs a dark at center. So I wanted to be colorful and bright. And so I'm going to apply some bright right here as well. Once you feel happy when the flower, you can move on to the next one. The next fall I will work on. I want to make a bit different so that we'll get will be diverse and interesting. First sets uses a slightly different color palette here. So first, I'm gonna use light blue color here. I think it's, we'll add more charm and shadows to the flower. Now, I will bend it a bit more red island to form other battles. I want this number to be less sharp for blended. This mirroring technique will help me here. So I will reapply a few more layers of oil pastels, dance view them so that the follower will look more blurry. Smearing technique works perfectly when you want to create a blurred effect. It makes some of the objects send out, create some perspective distance, and also makes your drawing really eye-catching. So let's add a few more blurred flowers to the jarring. I want to give those fibers. So I'm gonna layer it first and then blend and smeared. But the basic gross life. And after that, I will smear just silicone Beethoven branch host threat. Now let's add a few more yellow flowers to forget, to make it more diverse. So here I'm gonna layer some deep yellow. Then I will blend it with the ellipse, that bit of rows to ensure the color palette isn't to Brian and it doesn't grab too much attention to us, the power. And now I can add some red violet on the sides and smear it in both directions. If you want to make the power less blurred and sharper, you can add a final single stroke of darker color without Denton it or smearing it. For example, I'm using the violet oil pastel for that. And so just like that, you can create visible follows by using the screen technique. You can make them more blurred. You can add motion and transparency to your clamorous. And much more. So keep exploring this technique and keep using it to get more flowers to Turing. Response. You have added all the flowers you wanted and you feel like them forget, looks almost finished. You can proceed to the next stage of the drawing process. It leaves and cranes Stony Brook get I'll do it in the next class. 9. Adding Leaves: Great, so now that we have added to those gorgeous farmers to a drawing, let's proceed and create some names in aggregate as well. At this stage, there is no limit to your imagination. You can create leaves of any colors and shapes you want. So up to you to decide. For example, I feel like adding several the vendor shaped branches and want to keep it simple because the main character in this charring, as far as I am going to start with burnt umber Color. And then I will also add a few dark green leaves as well. I'm gonna use a cotton swab to blend the edges of the links. Katlyn swept will help to blend small details that you have in your drawing. You can also add some leaves to the flowers and also add more steps. Remember that you can keep it as simple or as complex as you want, dependent on the overall Buchet you want to create. And next we will work on the bus. So once you are happy with their lives, we can move onto the next stage of the charring. 10. Vase & Surface: So we are getting close to the finish line of the drawing. The last thing left for us to work on is the last of our book. Get to hello or the assemblage, the shape for your boss. Still, it's okay if you want to change it. Now it's a perfect time to make a final decision on how you want your wise to look like. So I want my boss to be round and I believe it who work great with the color of my flowers and the color of the paper. So keep that in mind when you're choosing the color for iOS. And now I'm going to layer here some dark and light blue oil pastels. Use different values of the color to add shadows and light areas to make your ass look more context and realistic. And we'll also add a bit of yellow to my boss to create a reflection from the surface. This was sent on. I chose to make the surface table yellow because like how blue until our work together. So I recommend you to choose the colors combination you really like. So now I'm layering some yellow to the surface. I want to keep it simple so I will use just yell here, and I will add a simple shallow here as well. For the shadow, I will use dark blue color. I will blend it a little bit, and that's it. Now, all that's left for us to do is to add some last strokes of pastel. Baby add few more details to know trawling. So let's store it in the next lesson. 11. Final Touch: Welcome to the finishing line of history. If you made it here, it means your trawling is almost finished. Now you can take a look at plumbers in vast and see if there are any spawned details that you want to add. Here are some more colors to the flowers or leave us. For example, as I look at my drawing and mostly had to innovate, but I feel like there's not enough volume in my pocket. So I have decided to add few more branches of branch blue color. This will create an interesting accent and it will also make my forget bigger and fighter. You can also add and the last details to your flowers. So I'm gonna grab my violet oil pastel, and only by using this color, I will add few short lines to the powers to create simple petals, some shadows, and bonds. You have added all the last details. You can finally Enjoy your results of your work. Congrats on finishing your topic, and I will see you in the next lesson for final thoughts. No. 12.
