About This Class

If you want to work less and get more out of the time you spend working, I think you might love this course! For most of my life, I thought time was money until I read books like Rich Dad: Poor Dad and The Four Hour Workweek.  Those books inspired me to create a 4 hour workday for myself that I explain in this course!

While it took me reading a lot of books and doing a lot of testing in my own life, you can use what already works for me because it is simply based on knowing yourself and tracking what you do.  None of the books I read specifically provided a formula to do the right amount of work each day which is why I made this course!

If you are tired of feeling limited by the idea that time is money, you can take this course as a way out. I show how in my life, time and money are only related because some time is necessary to get results.  Beyond the absolute minimum of time that is needed, most of waste nearly an eternity doing things that are unnecessary often based on fear.  When you face fear and move through it, the right work is all that is left and 4 hours per day is more than enough time to do it!

When you are hoping to stop telling everyone you are busy and start feeling free to do what you really want to today, you might be inspired by this course to try doing things the same way that is so effective for me. I was inspired by a lot of people before you to set my life up the way it is today based on their experiences.  You can continue doing this with me when you take this course!

1. Welcome to my 4 hour work days!: Welcome to the four hour work day Here with Me, Jerry Banfield. I read the Floor Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss years ago, and it's helped me to develop a four hour work day that I work seven days a week. That has helped me to have amazing results in my business. I'm in the fifth year off my business now, actually, getting into the sixth year. I started my business in 2011 and last year in 2016. These air their income I made with my business teaching online $253,000 profit before taxes about $70,000 paid to the I. R s in tax. I'm very grateful today to have such amazing results in my business. And one of the most critical parts to that is this four hour work day and I'll show you my spread sheet. Now this is my workflow. And I've got so many questions about this all over the place in many of my 70 plus course online, this workflow. So what I'm going to do is walk you through as I make an entire course in just four hours, an entire video class in just four hours now. Since I originally made this about a year ago, I've added some or updates into this to make this an even better class for you. I've put this out there to help you today to see the best of what works for me. Now. The best of what works for me is right here. I have a spreadsheet and I make simple daily goals. I try and do at least two videos every single day now. Sure, some days I go way over that do 27. But this little goal of doing two videos a day has added up to an absolutely incredible result online. See, when you work seven days a week and you work about four hours a day, that's actually about a 30 hour work week. And yet I get way more done in my seven day, four hour a day, 30 hour or so work week. Then I used to, with an eight hour work day, five days a week and then with simple daily goals, no matter what's happening, whether it's Sunday or Tuesday and try and get some videos produced every single day, it's Thursday morning. My wife and daughter out. And I'm updating this course for you to make this an amazing class for you. So thank you very much for getting started with this class. I'm honored to have the chance to share this experience here with you. What I will do, I'll show you the entire original class from start to finish, and then I'll put some new updates at the end of it. So it's February snow 9th 2017 Thank you for starting this class of me, and I hope you love it. 2. What is the 4 hour workday?: what is the four hour work day? The four hour work day is an average of working four hours every single day of the week. That's what I do. I work approximately four hours each day out of every day of the week. The purpose behind the four hour work day is a complete balanced life. That means a life. That work is approximately 1/4 off. What I do every day. Ah, balanced life allows me to do very effective work in the four hours that I work each day. The four hour work day, I hope, will give you inspiration to look at a new way of working and living. Because this is the most powerful part off my life. Today is a new way of working in a new way of living. The four hour work day balances out work here in yellow with self care in green, relationships in blue and fun in red. This well rounded life them produces extremely effective work, giving people exactly what they need in a relatively short period of time. I will elaborate on everything here with you in this course. The one thing I hope you can get out of this. Is that doing mawr work or working harder? At least today? If you're a developer and entrepreneur online, working harder and more hours rarely will accomplish more, in fact, working less hours of doing the exact right work. That's what works for me, and I will go through. This whole course with you is a case study off that inaction. Thank you very much for getting started. I'd love to know what you think. From time equals money to doing the right work equals money.: Here's the one big idea in this course that I've made a shift from that you have the chance to make the same shift. It's tough because most of us were program that time equals money that more time spent working equals more money. And this programming is extremely hard to break free of. The first step is to realize that this is how we're programmed. I was programmed that the more you work, the more money you can make. When I used to work, my complete thought process was more time, more money. Let me gettinto over time, and then I can make some real money. Now this makes sense. If you're a factory worker, if you need to be there to stick a gear in on assembly line, then yes, time does equal more money. The reason you're here, though, I'm guessing, is because you aren't a factory worker. When you work as a developer or an entrepreneur online or any freelance or anything, where it's your own business, you are not doing a time equals money kind of work anymore. You are doing a the right work equals money. Now this is very hard to comprehend. It first and put into practice because I was used to feeling and judging whether I was doing enough based on how much I was working. I didn't realize that what I needed to do was just do the right work, and that would equal money. When you are in a factory, you're stuck in one position, and all you can do is do one job there. When you're a freelancer, developer and entrepreneur, a business owner, there is practically an infinite amount of work you can do. Therefore, there's practically an infinite amount of time you can spend working. The question is how to spend the very little time I have doing the right work. That means the work you need me to dio not doing work that you don't need me to do what? Focusing exclusively on doing the work you specifically need me to do now in this relationship, I am the instructor of the course, and you're taking this course is a student in your relationships. You might be the business owner with employees and customers. You might be the developer with a company or a person who is paying for work. You might be a freelance are working for a client. I don't know what position you're in. The question is, how can you make that shift from thinking Time is money to doing the right work equals money. That's what we're here to do is to exercise this today. So what I'm doing, as you see appear I'm timing my work here because I'm attempting to do the right work in the very limited amount of time I have here with you today. Four hours. So I'll try and commute all a Kate this to you within four hours of real time, which should end up being around two hours of your actual time. And what I'll do first is explained more about the time money programming. General, if you want to be free of something, you first have to understand what you are currently programmed it working with, and then you can seek to have a more effective way of doing things 4. With time is money I made $20 per hour at most on average.: This is how life was for me before I started to realize I needed to do the right work and not just work per hour. So in my life, I used to think all I needed to do was maximize the rate I could make per hour and then find a job where I could work the most number of hours. So what you see here before I started to do the right work and focus on maximizing what I did in the time I had to do it, I had best made $20 an hour on average. And if you multiply that out per week, $20 an hour than comes out to about $800 a week, which then comes out over 52 weeks to about $41,600 a year. I never actually made that much in one year, though, because I consistently would burn out on a job, quit a job or too much, and then end up not having a job. I worked somewhere between 10 and 20 jobs between high school and 2000 and 12 when I I finished grad school. In other words, I couldn't even hardly do $20 an hour when I was consistently trying to work Aziz many hours is possible and consistently trying to find the highest paying job possible per hour . The problem. Waas that all I could see was this system. I didn't even understand that there was a different system to work in, and then whenever you told me about it, I would criticize you, tell me someone like Warren Buffett made millions of dollars an hour or whatever, and I just say, Well, that's disgusting. That's capitalism. I would dismiss whatever they were doing right. I would ignore what was working for other people because I was defending my dollar per hour programming that I started with. Thankfully, I read Rich Dad, Poor Dad. I read the four hour work week and I'm here. I've internalized and applied these things to my life, and I'll show you now how things work. 5. With doing the right work I make over $1,000 per hour of work.: with working to do the right work equals money. Now, with that mindset, let me show you how things are going. So what I just showed you in order to make $800 it used to take me 40 hours of work. Now this is a you Timmy course I've made right here. It's called How I Created You to Me Course in five hours. That course took me five hours of riel time to make. And according to the ratings, most of the students really enjoy the course. Now look at the earnings right here. $8777 earned from this course, and it's not done earning either. In fact, you could say it's still getting started. It probably stands to make another $8000 in the future before it's done making sales. Now let's look at the calculator on this really quickly. Let's say it is done earning just now for simplicity. And let's say the course took me five hours and I've spent even, you could say two hours just promoting this specific course. So let's divide seven hours divided by 7 8077 and I need Teoh inverse that to get this right, don't ask how my brain works. That comes out toe $1253 per hour. So in the time it took me to make this course, that work has been worth $1253 Now on you. To me, this is a trend I've made. I'm grateful you. Timmy has paid me $598,000 now for doing courses on here. And to be fair, I've spent a couple of 100,000 on online ads on my courses. And yet this is just the beginning. Still, there's a lot more that is liable toe happen on you. To me, the point of this is that doing the right work is worth way, way, way more, as much as 50 or 100 times more, Then just trying to do as much work as you can. This is the whole point of this course is to figure out an isolate the very most important work you're doing and not important in terms of what you think is important in terms of what other people think is important. I made this course because it was clear that the existing students wanted this course. And I'm making this course with you now because I believe, based on the 56 courses I made already, that this course might be really useful for you. The idea is that I'm trying to do what you need me to. That's the whole point of this. The point isn't to be able to make all kinds of money. It's to be ableto Onley do the work that you need me to and not do any other work. When you're a free lantern entrepreneur, there's so many things you could do. Why do anything except what people need you to Now I've shown you that I realized this can arouse some negative feelings. Also, I've shown you this out of my love, hope and faith for what you're doing that when you see how this principle is working in my life, that then you will have a desire to attempt to apply this principle in your own life. And I will continue to show you how I apply this principle in my work to get these results 6. How do you know what the right work is to do?: If you're sold on the idea of doing the right work at this point, you might want to know. OK, Gerry, how do you know what the right work is to do? How did you know? This is the first course I made on you to me. And I'm grateful it's turned over $100,000. When you look at this, you might say, Jerry, how did you know that was the right work to do? I didn't. I did not know that was the right work to do. However, I did have an idea that that was worth doing. You don't know with hindsight what the right work is. I don't know that doing this with you is the right work. I operate on faith based on what I've already seen so prior to making this course, I made videos on my YouTube channel. If I show you my popular up loads playlist, what I've got here are videos. I uploaded free training and popular videos. I've done so. I did a bunch of these videos on YouTube and then that's how I ended up coming over to teach on you to me. I've now done a bunch of these courses on you, to me and after what I've done and learned making these courses on you to me, I feel motivated to share this with you because I feel like this is one of the most powerful things I'm doing. So each step you take, lead you into a better idea of what the right work to do ways. I didn't immediately make this off of this course. In fact, I tried a long binge, 12 hour work day to do this course, and then I hated it, and I was burned out, and it took me months to come back and start doing some regular work on this course, and that's when it started making sales. How did I get the motivation and make these YouTube videos? I had clients I worked with that asked me for more tips and training. How did I know to do that? I had a business owner I talked with who told me how much money people were making with Social Media services. Well, how did I get to do that? I struggled to do it for myself. I started my own business and failed miserably. So then I was looking into getting help and I realized, Forget my own business. I'll help other people with their business. So it's a progression of figuring out what the right worked do is the starting point. The very beginning point is always the same. What is it that you really feel you can do to be useful and help someone? What is it you uniquely have to offer and give to someone else? When that's the starting point, the work will appear. And if you can't see that, sometimes the only way is toe ask life to show it to you. If you like the word God asked God to show it to you. If you like the word creator, a higher power, ask your higher power to show it to you. Ask other people to show it to you. Get to know yourself. That's what I did. I kept getting to know, and I that's what I'm still doing today. That's are literally I got down on my knees and prayed to God. Teoh, help me do the right work today, toe have my will be one with the will of God with what you need me to do to have this body operate as it's needed to for the other bodies, to show me what I need to do, and that allows me then to be in a position to do the right work that allows me to do very effective work in a short period of time. I'm grateful you can see just 40 minutes of real time of past since I started this course and we're already this far into it. If you don't know what the right work is today, that's OK. Any little insight you get on it is huge progress. More than likely are already doing some of the right work. It's just more than likely lumped in with a bunch of the wrong work. When you see these videos here, a lot of them reflect doing the wrong work, doing things people don't need doing it in a way people don't need. Even a lot of the you Timmy courses here, you'll see, haven't made much money. They reflect doing the wrong work, doing things people didn't need me to do and yet every course right took a step in the wrong direction, helped me learn how to take a step in the right direction. So I'm grateful today. I realize that in doing the right work, I often don't know exactly what is going to be the right work from a long term perspective . Right this moment. I know that if I used what I learned before about what the right work is for me, if I pray and ask for guidance and then listen for the answers all around me all the time. If I get to know myself, get to know what I need, what I like, what I respond to then it's very easy for me to give that back. I'm making this course because this would have been really helpful for me before. I learned this in a lot of different ways, by reading tons of different books and by trying at my own life. That's motivated me to share it with you. I don't know it's the right work right now. I'm having faith that based on what I've know from the past, that this feels right today. So I'm doing what feels right here with you right now, and I value your feedback on it. Thousands of people have continuously given me feedback on what they liked and what they didn't like, and that helps me to figure out what the right work is for me to do today. Anyone who's willing to give you feedback is also helping you isolate what the right work is for you to do. 7. My workflow with tracking the progress I make each day with Microsoft Excel.: What makes the four hour work day completely effective for me is tracking the results of my work in Microsoft. Excel when I use this Microsoft Excel spreadsheet to track my results that forces me to zoom in on what the right work is. Now, if you're just getting started and you're not sure what you should focus on, that's okay. You work with whatever you have today. When I started this spreadsheet back in December 2000 and 14 I started it. Based on what I knew, I knew that making videos on you to me, which are also called lectures. This was some of the most valuable work I was doing in that needed to be primary. My work on you, to me, needed to be part of my daily work, and my work on you to me needed to be recorded so that I could see the cumulative result of what doesn't seem like that much work. At first glance, you might say four hours a day. That's not very much work. You're not even trying. I could do 8 10 12 16 hour days. The key is to produce something out of the work you're doing and then to record what it is you're producing, so you can see how effective it is. At first, the mind simply will not accept something like four hours. It's possible to get the same amount, arm or done in four hours as it is in eight hours, the mind will outright reject that and not even try it. Not even given a chance using this Excel spreadsheet using the tracking on here gives me the ability to prove that this works in my life. The whole time here, I have consistently done approximately four hour work days on average. I mean, sometimes I've taken some days off. Some days I've worked maybe five or six hours to get everything balanced out. Now what you see here, I've set this spreadsheet up and I will include this for you as a resource in this lecture . So you can literally just adapt this to your own needs. I'm grateful that I'm no to share this with you because a bunch of people taking my courses before you have said gear. I love your workflow. I love your workflow. That's why I'm sharing. This is because so many others have found it helpful tracking. It forces me to look at what I'm doing outside of the mental story. So what I've done, I've put the date in here on this side, and then the date automatically goes up each day. And then this first column is objective number one, which is videos uploaded to you. To me, however, many videos you've been through this course is how many I've already done today. I started out with a simple goal of doing tool on average per day. Now that doesn't sound like much, does it? And this illustrates the four hour work day principal perfectly setting Ah, goal that seems easy to achieve, and then achieving it consistently produces incredible results. Now, if I'd said at the beginning of this year, you need to do 2000 videos on YouTube, me, I'd have said No way. I can't do that. That's not possible. I saw someone with 20 courses on you to me around the same time and said, Man, if I had 20 courses, I've have it made. I didn't set out to make 20 courses. I set out to do two videos every single day and then within that those two videos to be able to do that within a four hour period. Now, tonight of 56 courses on you to me, and it's because I do a little bit every day so you can see that the tracking for this goes along and then some days I'm doing a lot. Some days I'm doing 10 even 20 some days. And then there's other days where there's vacation, where there's travel while I'm not doing anything. And then there's here where my daughter is born, where I don't do anything on making videos on you to me. So the whole point of this is to give yourself gold stars for the good work you are doing to see how much a little bit of work every single day adds up to and to zoom in to figure out exactly what the right work is. So across here, I've changed all of these columns over time. I've changed this up to try and reflect what the right work is. So I've added that into working on two courses and doing additional coursework here. So all of these first columns lead into work on you to me and then this one this one is messages, discussions and reviews answered on you to meet also. So 80% of this spreadsheet, at least, is you to me work. And yet there's another column here called YouTube and represents Facebook videos. Also, these air videos I've uploaded on YouTube and Facebook because distribution getting my free distribution out there's very valuable also. So this is a new category. This column on the end here has been modified a bunch of times. I initially started off with skill feeds. Guilt feed went out of business. I deleted that one. I didn't originally have this one in here. So now I've got this one in here. The more I continue doing, miss, the more I'm ableto see exactly what work I need to do. So this spreadsheet is a big part of figuring out what the right work is. If you choose the wrong things on here, that's OK. You'll stop doing it, you'll delete it, and then you can put some new things on here. If you don't know what to put on here, just put whatever you're already doing on here, and then if you need to change it, you can change it. The point is, this gives me faith and confidence each day that doing a little bit of work is worth a lot in the grand scheme of things. 8. The 4 hour workday is one I practice 7 days per week.: why you might notice about this spreadsheet is that I practiced the four hour work day every day of the week. Generally, you'll notice that most every day here has a one or greater number in it. Now there are periods where I have things like I'm traveling or things like my wife is sick or things. Any kind of disruption in life like the holidays can sometimes lead to zeros, however, when nothing else is going on, generally, I don't work every single day. That means I treat Saturday and Sunday the same as Monday and Tuesday. The beauty of that is there are no bummer Monday or Tuesday's in my work anymore. The upside of that also is that I never have to wait If I get really excited. Like I woke up really excited to work on this course, I what days it Friday. So it doesn't matter what day of the week it is. I have a chance to express my excitement into my work every day when you do 58 hour days. What happens when you wake up Saturday and you're really excited about an idea? Then it can be hard to get through the weekend with that idea in mind. By Monday, the enthusiasms gone, or what happens when you're really excited with an idea Friday. You don't have time to finish it by Monday. The weekend blotted everything out. You have no enthusiasm left. Working a little bit every day allows me to put the maximum energy I have into my work every single day. People have asked Jerry, how do you stay so excited about what you do? I have the chance to express my excitement about what I do every single day. I don't have toe have days where I want to work and can't very often now. When my daughter was born and during the holidays in various days where they're zero. Here I had things gone where I couldn't work or where it didn't make sense to try and work that day. And that's OK because I'm not taking Saturdays and Sundays off by default, so I don't know what day of the week most of these are here when I'm not taking Saturdays and Sundays off by default than the average is a lot higher. So the last couple months, everything has been very stable. I've been able to do something almost every day for the last month. I've only had 10 day, and that was when the new zombie map came out in call of duty. So I played some extra that day. As you can see, I made a note here. I also like to know when I have a day didn't do any work, and that is something I can do because normally I work seven days a week, and then if I have days here, like where I knew this would happen, you'll see that the days before the map came out, I did a lot. If you look, the average on this is 10 0.75 per day. So when you have four hours, you work every day on average. And you know there's days like the holidays coming up where you won't be able to work or traveling. Then that motivates me to do a little bit more to bump it up to maybe a five hour workday before that zero days coming up, or if I have some of the zero days in here, you'll see I have some really productive stretches after that. This eliminates the guaranteed zeros. It's harder to average two lectures every day. If I have guaranteed zeros on Saturday and Sunday, and then if there's a zero that comes up Monday or Tuesday and then I already had zero Saturday or Sunday, then it starts a crunch into needing to really produced the three days of the week. I plan to work every single day, and if for some reason I can't do any work, it's OK, then it's forgiven. It's no big deal because I've worked so many days like you can see in this last month. If I get zero lectures done one day, So what? I've done so many that I can afford a day where I don't do anything. So by default the four hour work days and everyday thing. And yet there's complete forgiveness for taking days off as needed. 9. Only 4 hours to work forces me to look carefully at what I am doing.: having Onley four hours toe work each day, forces may to look carefully at what I'm doing. This spreadsheet is my biggest tool into looking carefully at what I'm doing. It allows me to see exactly what's going on. One of the biggest problems that occurred in my work before I transitioned to trying to do the right work in the least amount of time was that I would not pay attention to what I was doing. I would do things longer than they were necessary. I would start telling poisonous stories about my work that weren't even true. I'll give you an example of how the flower work week or excuse me the four hour work day allows me to solve this problem. So I go up here. I was telling a toxic story. A toxic story is one that disrupts work. It's one that can cause you to stop doing the work. That's right, The work that's important. I was telling a story that after my daughter was born, I wasn't doing good on you to me anymore. I wasn't making enough videos. I wasn't going through and really making a good contribution anymore. I was telling that story, and that kind of story had ruined a bunch of jobs for me, had ruined relationships and ruined all kinds of things in my life. The four hour work day forces me to look at thes stories because with seven days a week toe work, I have to interact with it every single day. If you don't work every day, you can afford to hide out on the weekends from whatever toxic stories you're telling. You can afford to hide out and try and forget about the problems. When you have to see them every single day, it's hard to hide out when you're tracking things and Microsoft excel, it forces you to look at the things you're doing and especially the toxic stories you're telling. So thankfully, I had Microsoft Excel set up and was tracking all this before this story started. So when was I telling this story? I was telling it around November, three months after my daughter had been born. I had a lot of zero days in here, and I was telling this toxic story of how I wasn't doing that much anymore. Well, I looked Then when I finally went and looked on my data. It was about the end of December before even realized what I was doing. I went back and highlighted all of the days since my daughter had been born and I looked at the average. The average is down here on the bottom. I'll pull it up for you. 2.67 lectures uploaded per day on average. What was my original goal? My original goal was to per day. Therefore, since my daughter had been born in those months, even with all those zero days, even with all the disruptions to my work, I still was going over my goal by 33% on average. Every day that story got smashed. Right then in there, No more story about how unproductive Jerry's being. Now, if you don't have these tools, if you don't have the tracking which is necessary to help the four hour work day be effective if you're trying to work these long days, stories like that rule at least for me they ruled my life. Those stories, I believed, more than any other data. The data on here is a lifesaver. It is absolutely essential toe having this work, and if you think about it. Aren't you willing to try something new to work less and make mawr? I certainly am. I certainly was an M today, So I'm grateful that the four hour work day frees me up from the stories that come along with trying to do things the old way. The way I was programmed of time is money and telling stories about how work is going instead of actually looking at what's happening. 10. Perfectionism cannot stand up to limited amounts of time to work.: I really appreciate you watching this course with me and dealing with the imperfections in it. When you have a four hour work day, it is the best thing you could do. If you're a perfectionist, I'm showing you here the course as I'm making it live and uploading it in the outline. If you think I like the fluctuations in how the video looks sometimes if you think I like having things a little bit less than perfect or a lot less than perfect, you are mistaken. If you think I can't stand it when the video looks off, If you think I'd love tohave perfect, beautiful slides on every single video for you, you're right. I would. I think it be great to have everything beautifully illustrated and animated and toe Have every video perfectly cropped. All of the words I say, perfectly lined up. And yet that takes 10 to 100 times as much actual time as doing it this way. I've been a perfectionist most of my life, every single flaw in this course. Believe me, I notice it. I noticed when I don't say something right, I notice it when I trip over my words like I did in one of the last lectures. I noticed that when I say something like the four hour work week instead of the four hour work day, I notice it. I notice the imperfections. The thing is, I only have four hours to work today. I've already went through on the timers. You can see one hour and 15 minutes. There is simply not time to go fix every single imperfection. Now you could say, Well, Jerry, it's worth the time. Is it worth the time? I don't know that it's worth the time right now. If this course turns into a bestseller with 20 or 30 or 40,000 students who then the Onley negative things sent on the reviews are the lectures should be more polished. Then I will know it's worth the time to go get a course that's almost the exact same done perfectly. I will know that that's worth being a feature film, so to speak, in movie terms. What I'm putting out here is essentially a minimum viable product, the bare minimum that's fully functional for you, that can fully help you that you can use immediately and then to validate If this course is needed at a completely perfect polished level van, I'll go make one. If this course doesn't do very well, I don't want to spend more than four hours finding out. I don't want to spend 40 6100 hours on Lee toe. Learn that the title is bad or the basic premise was bad or that the teacher was bad, that my voice was annoying. Something that I can't even change when you do things with the intention of perfection, you have to have in your mind on limited time. When you're trying to perfect every single little thing, you require this idea that you can just work and work and work and work. And generally, perfection of is based on fear. Fear that people will criticize people will judge. I know that some of you are going to criticize in judge, no matter how perfect the courses. I know the others of you will love the course, no matter how perfect it is. There's some common ingredient that brings out the good and bad in every course in every book and anything you read or do so today, my limitation off not being to just dump time into what I'm doing. It forces me to accept doing the best I can in the least amount of time. It forces me to not be a perfectionist. I remember in high schooI I'd sit there and agonize over every word. I'd rewrite an entire paper back when you had to do it in paper and pencil just to get it. So there weren't so many cross outs. I literally try and turn in a paper without one mistake on it. I'd spend hours and hours and hours of extra time to try and turn in a perfect paper. Now I can see how ridiculous that is. That's I guess why didn't have very many friends in most of middle school and high school because I actually sat there and tried to make everything perfect. What I try and do today is turning as many papers is possible because in school you can only turn in a limited amount of papers. If you just turn in six papers instead of one. The teachers not going to give you six A's and let you pass the course right there, you're still going to have to do the other five required papers. If you turn in six on one topic, I can turn in 50 you Timmy courses if I want to on the same topic with the same basic theme with the idea being that I don't even understand exactly why some people like them better than others. And that's okay. What I'm trying to do essentially is turning AZM any papers as possible. And instead of getting grades back, I'm getting money back. So I'd rather turn in 15 or 20 or 50 b and C and sometimes a quality papers. Then try and guess which one is going to be perfect ahead of time and turn in fewer. So this four hour work days a miracle for me because I've been such a perfectionist most of my life, this forces me to accept and do the most good work possible. And then when you've told me exactly which of the good work you like best to then try and do great perfect work if possible, within that exact area 11. Breaks are easy to take with less hours of work!: you might have noticed the timer hardly changed it all between when I finished that last lecture and then now starting this one. And that's because I took a quick break while the video was rendering. When I'm able to take breaks easily, then the work I do is more effective with just four hours to work. It's really easy to get adequate breaks in because then there's plenty of other time four break, so I can actually have a five or six hour period toe work in, and then I only do about four hours of actual work. I take 10 2030 minute breaks. I go to lunch. I go have a little snack. I walk the dogs. There's lots of time to take breaks when you're on Lee, aiming to get four hours of real work. So in terms of definition, what I'm meaning to get done is four hours of riel work. Now, if you look at how people often end up working at a corporate office setting, they're lucky to get 1 to 2 hours off Rheal work done every day. So what I'm saying with four hours of actual work every day in a context off where normally things air filled up with all kinds of distractions and breaks and non work activities like messing around on Facebook or something. I'm talking about four hours of riel work every day, not counting breaks, not counting things that aren't work related. And that for includes meetings, though that includes talking with people. So this motivates me to take good care of myself. It gives me the chance in that graph I showed you about self care when I only work for hours each day of actual time. Then there's plenty of time for self care and self care is incredibly important to doing your best work. And I mean really self care, not punishing myself with a workout that's really difficulty, or with a bunch of alcohol or other substances, or with a bunch of video games to the point where I can't even see anymore really doing self care like I just went and A had a banana and drank some water and walked around. I mean, that's really self care rejuvenation, So I'm grateful that the way I work now, there's plenty of time for breaks 12. Spending money to work more effectively is now a given.: spending money in support of an effective four hour work day now starts to be a given for improving performance. And let me start this off with I don't care what computer use at all. It makes no difference to me. This is the one I'm using. When I started doing this four hour work day, it became agonizing using my existing Windows computer to try and render things. So what did I do? I started looking around up until this point, I'd said Max were crap. I said all kinds of bad things about Max. I'd only had Windows computer my whole life. Then, when doing just four hours of work a day and looking at okay, I'm trying to make the most amount of money per hour. That means I'm sitting here wasting 30 minutes rendering of video and something like, Oh, instructors still do this. I need a computer that can rip out one of these videos. If you look at the timer here, you can see how long it's taking me to render these videos, and I'm up loading them while I'm making this, too. I am tearing through the rendering process on these videos because I spent $5000 and I didn't have the money for that, either. If you'll see I use this little option special financing I went through and borrowed the money to buy a $5000 I'm AC 3000. I bought the top ah line model they had a year ago, and then I bought a $2000 external hard drive. That's as fast as a flash drive. I can literally record straight that external hard drive, which is six terabytes, and then just tear through the rendering process. Now. Before this, I was really cheap. In most of the money I'd spend on my business, I wanted to just use all the equipment I had. For example, I had this microphone and I kept getting crap from the unit me review team over it, and I kept trying to use it anyway because I didn't want to do a new microphone. When I switched over to doing a four hour work day to lectures a day, it forced me to look at all the inefficiencies and then once I could see man, I'm getting slowed down by this terrible rendering process on this old the hard drive on this Windows computer. I'm getting slowed down by this editing software that's obnoxious to use. I'm getting slowed down because then I have to go at it my audio every single time because my microphones not recording it good enough. So what did I do? I dumped out money to go fix the problems, and I didn't have the money even to get this computer. So before I hated to do any financing, I hated to pay interest on principle. I hated to act like I didn't have money. I hated to go borrow money. So what did I do on this? I said I need the better results right now. I don't need to wait several months until I could do this, because by then I will have wasted ah, bunch of time that I could have worked at a higher dollar per hour rate. When you see you can do $1000 in our work, it motivates you to spend money to get the things you need to do that work Now. I didn't just buy this as soon as I made a video online, I bought it after I had made hundreds of videos online. I could see I need something that's a lot better. I can see exactly what I needed to do. I needed to render these videos right away. I needed to take on Lee two or three minutes to render a video so that in 10 minutes of actual filming in another 10 minutes, I have the video uploaded, rendered, and I still work on the computer while it's rendering on my Windows computer. I had to get up and I couldn't do anything else on the computer or lock up in freeze. Now, the first year on you to me, I worked with that once I started the spreadsheet. Once I've started everything I shared in this course, I got an intolerance for ineffective equipment, and I just Now if I need something, I spend the money to get it now. I don't buy the very top of the line. I buy the best thing that works, So I have. This is 100 and $50 microphone. There's $500 ones I could have bought this microphone I'm using. This is very effective. This is the most effective want at the best price. So I bought that the iMac was the most effective, simple solution I could find. And I bought the iMac because of the thunderbolt port that allows that external hard drive to use and then the simplicity of editing on My Mac. So what I'm saying is the four hour work day shredded all my previous things on how to spend money. It shredded my previous things on what kind of computer I liked it shredded all the stupid mental blocks that we're getting in the way of me doing the work, that the right work, the work that you need me to do. And now I'm grateful this computer this month is paid off. Now, now I have this fully paid and you can see the time it takes to render these videos by the stopwatch. You can see how fast I'm able to do these things now. Because of the four hour work day 13. Having less time to work forces me to face my limitations and work with others.: When you Onley have four hours a day toe work, it forces looking at your own limitations. Now, this is often something most of us try and avoid to do like the plague. Most of us try really hard to not look at our own limitations to try and feel unlimited. In fact, most of the work I see by entrepreneurs is an effort to feel unlimited. I want to give my business to the point where I'm unlimited. That's the basic premises. I'll have unlimited money, unlimited time, all of everything. When you Onley can work four hours a day on average, it forces to look at all of the limitations you have for me. You can see most of my early courses here on you to me. I taught them on my own. In other words, I tried to do it all by myself most of the time. Now, if you look at my newer courses, you can see that I'm very often almost all of these courses and almost every course I'm teaching on you to me has at least one co instructor on it. And now a lot of my new courses I'm not the primary instructor on them. Even you can see consistently a change in my entire approach on you to me to doing Mork O instructed courses because I can't do it all on my own. The more I try and use my time most effectively, I start seeing the best way I can get more out of my four hours, as if when I worked for hours, someone else works four hours with me. That's a much bigger combined effort. I realized that like subjects like digital marketing, even though I could maybe teach a course by myself, Arment I don't want to teach a course with all the basic terms like Click Through and CPM is kind of boring to me because I'm in all these advanced things. I'm able to teach ah lot of these things at the advanced level. So what it makes sense to Dio is partner with someone who's willing to teach all the basic terms. Who enjoys teaching the basic terms and then put the things I know about in the course like the paper click. And so that's exactly, for example, what I did on this course. I partnered with Jackie. She goes over all the basics very well in a much better way than I would have. And then I put some of the paper click things in that she wouldn't have wanted to go do that are pretty easy for me to do. So the four hour work day forces me to accept how limited my ability to work is that even though if you look at the spreadsheet, this looks like a lot of work in the grand scheme of all the courses on you. To me, this is very a little work. So the more I started practicing four hours workday and not just trying to I'll just work more. I'll just work more. I'll just work more. The more I started seeing, I only can work so much. What can I do to maximize the time I am working? The more could see clearly I have to work effectively with other people. When I started on you, to me, it was mostly me by myself doing every aspect of the course. It was mostly me making all the videos, doing all the marketing, all the sales, all the lecture descriptions, trying to get subtitles. It was me doing everything now on very few courses today, Maybe one or two. Do I actually do everything because it comes back to this. If I think I can do everything, I'm right back here to one hour equals $20 an hour or some kind of hourly rate. When I work with other people, then I'm able to get all these kind of results. I'm able to be a teacher on something I have no idea about. I've never used able to live nine. It's a new course I'm making with the co instructor. I've never used it. And yet I can help teach in the course because I can put a few videos in the course, which I've done to help with summarizing the basic purpose of the course from pretty much a student's point of view and then do the advertising do some marketing and help promote the course because then I can see what I can genuinely offer. I'm very good at getting students as you can see on, you know, me and other people are not very good at getting students. However, they have very good technical knowledge that I don't have, and I'm grateful to have the chance today to collaborate with so many instructors. That way I can focus on doing what I do best, and they can do what they do best. And between the two of us, we can produce things that we never would have been able to otherwise. The best example of this is the best selling course I'm teaching is the complete hacking course. And the amazing thing is, I've never done hardly anything that the course teaches. The course teaches things I don't understand. What I do understand is why people would take the course where people are looking to buy it . I was able to get this course of credibly effectively promoted, get it upto one of the very best sellers on you know me because I was able to just to contribute what I needed to. And then my co instructor, Erman, was able to show how to do the actual things. That course teaches now. If the two of us hadn't worked together, neither of us would have had that opportunity. Erman wouldn't have been able to just go make the course and try and promote it on his own . He hates advertising and marketing. He doesn't like writing sales pages. He doesn't like doing promotional emails. He likes doing ethical hacking. That's what he likes to do. That's his $1000 per hour work. When you accept your limitations, you see that everything is dependent on working with other people. Now I'm not even sure how Maney people I'm working with on you know me. I'm teaching courses with somewhere between 20 and 30 other co instructors. On top of that, there's a bunch of freelancers doing work to support the courses of doing subtitles. They're doing lecture descriptions. They're doing things that helped get the courses to have the most value. They are essential in the course of success, and yet they don't even get credit for it anywhere besides me saying that they do, and them getting $20 or whatever they get per hour to help out with the course. So even if you don't know exactly who to work with right now, that's okay. When you face your limitations. When you get to know yourself and see what you're really good at, all of which the four hour work day will let you do, then you'll start seeing where you could really help someone else out. You'll start seeing how multiplication of it is if you multiply what you know by what someone else knows, like Erman and I did on our hacking course. What I know is multiplied by what he knows, and that's how we've made a course that's exceptional together. The best selling course I have is, of course, I'm co instructing, and that has been a really powerful lesson for me, all of that through the four hour work day. If I had been trying to do everything myself 8 10 12 hour days, I easily would have kept talking myself into I can do it all. I don't need any help on to keep all the money for myself. I could do it all. I'm grateful today that the four hour work day shows me I can't do it all. However, if I collaborate, work with other people. What all of us can do collectively is incredible. 14. Accepting the things I cannot change is mandatory with less time to work.: having less time to work forces me to accept the things I cannot change, which allows me to quickly adjust my work to what's going on now. Here's how I used to work. I'd plan out a day. I was gonna work 12 hours that day. This how I made the first Facebook course I made. I literally came in early in the morning and went through the entire day and worked 12 hours plus to make that course in one day. Now what happens when you do that and the Internets out or the power's out or someone's cutting the grass? Or there's some other loud noise or people keep calling you or something happens with your family and there's an emergency. It drives, at least for me. It drove me insane. Anything that disrupted my work, I would get really upset about. I remember even I have birds chirping. You've probably heard some birds chirping in the background. You would probably not be surprised to know that at some point I when earlier on, I threw rocks to try and get the birds out of the trees to stop them from chirping. Now I accept that it's not worth the time and effort, and it's probably not the right thing to do to go throw rocks at birds to get them out of the trees. I can either accept that the birds are going to chirp and just film through it, or I can accept it and not film through it and do something else. Like when I'm showing on this course here. You know me is taking longer than usual to process lectures today. So when I upload these, then they're yellow like this or whatever color that is orange. And then I have to get published like I just did on that last lecture to get them uploaded and able to be viewed. Well, I can't get the course reviewed until all the lectures are published. So if you to be is going slow on the processing, I accept there's nothing I can do about that. That's OK. There been some days or later on where I got frustrated with things like that, with less time to work, you can see I've only got two hours left now to finish this course in the timeline that I set up tentatively. Now it may take longer. I don't know, but im as an example to see how much you can produce here, I am forced to accept the things I can't change. For example, there's people coming over to look at the house in an hour or two that will almost guarantee I have to stop work while they're over. And then I don't have to try and of work through uncomfortable situations. With the flower work day, you can afford to pick the very best four hours of the data work. You don't have to try and grind through the birds chirping if you don't want to. Or for me, the biggest issue lately has been lawnmowers. I have seven or eight houses that are directly proximate to mind, where a loud lawnmower sound is likely to be noticeable in here. And I can't understand sometimes how it seems like every day of the week for an hour, 23 hours, right when I want to film that everyone needs to mow their grass. However, I accept that short of me being a lunatic, there's nothing I can do when other people want to cut their grass other than film through it or do a different kind of work or not work it all. I accept that the best times for me to film or when my wife and daughter are not in the house, that it's obnoxious to them. If I try and expect them to be quiet with the seven month old, not a good idea to expect anything out of them. It's obnoxious, especially to my wife. I try and place the expectation on her that I'm filming and that if she makes any noise, it could be in the background. Disrupt my videos. So I tend to film on Lee when my wife and daughter are not home. And that comes from accepting the things I can't change in having four hours a data work. There's not room to fight with life. There's not room for me to work, pissed off at something and say, Well, these lawnmowers or I, what am I gonna do with wife and baby in the house? There's no reason that in four hours every day I can't find one good hour to film and three good hours to do other things besides filming, and that's consistently what I'm able to do now. If I try and fight and say, I'm gonna film whenever I want. Then that's uncomfortable for my wife. Now if I say Look, I'd like an hour each day to film, and that motivates my wife. Good. I'd like an hour each day to get out of the house to go do something with our daughter, and so we work things out like that now. She went to a yoga class in ST Pete today, so I've got wide open today. That's why I'm ambitious enough to go for filming this whole course today. While I've got time, it's, Ah, brilliant breakthrough when you can accept things as they are and not build resentments over them. A resentment is a fight as a resentment, for example, would be getting pissed off at my neighbor's for mowing the grass. Why they need to mow the grass. I guess. Then that's what they need to dio. I used to get so pissed off I used to feel like the world was stacked up against me. When I was filming every plane that flew over, I'd literally sometimes custom plane out for flying over and averaging a restart. My video. Now I just let it roll the planes in the background. Let's go with it. If the course needs to be perfect, if that needs to be edited later. If it drives people insane, I'll fix it. Refill, mint. So today, the four hours limited amount of work time it forces me to accept the things I have no power to change or that it take me being a crazy psycho to go change like neighbors mowing the lawn. It forces me today to have some peace and to adjust what I'm doing based on what life gives me. If the Internets out well, I probably shouldn't try and do a whole bunch of things on you to me. Maybe better time to read a book. 15. Saying no and respecting myself is much easier with less time to work.: This is one of the favorite emails I've received that I hope will illustrate this point for you. I'm making about the four hour work day. The four hour work day forces me to say no to things. It forces me to not try and take on too much because with only four hours toe work, it's very obvious when I'm getting behind when I can't keep up with the work I've done. One of the biggest problems I had in my life was that I'd take on too many things. I'd say yes to doing things I had no interest in because I felt like I could always just work mawr to make up the difference. I I felt that I could always just do an extra hour to doing this project today. Or I could always just give more with recognizing Onley. Four hours is there toe work? I can see. I don't have a bunch of extra time today to do everything for everyone. It forces me to set up rules, handle situations. It forces self respect. It forces me to respect my time. It forces me to respect other people's time to. It gives me the courage to say no very often I say no to a lot of things today. I have lots of people that reach out after seeing what I'm doing and they want things like this. This is an actual email I've received, and I stripped the name of the person and all the personal information so you can see here exactly what I'm talking about. If I was doing things the way I used to, I definitely would have said yes to something like this and then would have ended up having to do something I didn't have much interest in doing. I will show you how I handled this right now, within the constraints of my four hour work day So you can see this email. And this is a very typical contact I get from people. People want to do an interview. If me people want me to make something or do something, get my course in a different format, and these I get I don't even know many of these. I get because Joseph actually checks my email and on Lee sends me the most relevant of these now. So he sent me this one because it looked good and in the sense of who the guy was and what he wanted. So here's what he asked. He asked me to do an interview with him. He set up that he liked what I've been doing on my you Timmy courses. Can we do a Skype call over the next week or two? Informal discussion Thought Leader book something for my podcast. Now I have a very limited amount of time, which makes more sense to give to the people who are already following me with that limited time, or to try and go after new opportunities to try and do an interview with this guy with the hope I can't break into a new audience with four hours a day, you can see the clock's ticking right here and you can see the choice I'm making. I give to you first in that four hours I give to the people who are already following me. I'm grateful I already have people following me, and this means doing something like an interview that takes away. I only have four hours, a 30 minute interview realistically, with extra starting start time. That's 25% of my work for one day now at $1000 per hour, and I'm looking an interview. Might not get anything out of it. And I'm not all about money. Money is a good indication of the value I'm giving. I'm likely to actually be costing myself money by taking interview like this. So I have a simple system. Here is my response. Hi. Thank you for contacting me. My rate for a first time Skype or phone call is $1000 per hour, which is 500 for 30 minutes. And I gave a direct payment link. And then if you complete payment, weaken, schedule the call that is basically a no. Who wants to pay for an interview? I still gave the option for the person to do it, though. If they're willing to pay 500 for 30 minutes, then I know they're really serious about interviewing me in particular and not trying to use me to enhance their business. This gives me a clear indication of rather I should say yes or not. So I set up impartial systems. This is my generic response to everyone that's fair. Instead of me trying to judge while this person's worth it. Well, that person's not. If you can pay 1000 an hour, you're worth it, and you paying 1000 an hour will give me more tools. And resource is to contribute to my existing audience. I can run some more ads and build my existing audience. It gives me something in. It demonstrates to me that this might be a healthy relationship, and it demonstrates to me that someone's not trying to simply take from me without giving me any real value back. If, for example, I wanted to interview Tim Ferriss, who wrote the four hour Work Week, or if I wanted interview Eckhart totally, who I just buy everything he makes. Or I wanted to interview Opa and they said, Sure, I'll interview you for $10,000 an hour. That would make sense to me. I probably if I I probably would pay the hat because then I could give that to my audience . Also, I would respect that. They get a lot of opportunities, they get a lot of offers. They must say no to most of those offers, and the only ones they say yes to are the ones that are worth it. that makes sense within what they're doing. So here's the response I got back. I don't pay for sky podcast interviews. I spend 30 minutes building you up. So then I really like this line. I should be charging you two exclamation points. I'm OK getting this kind of response back today because I'd rather say no most of the time to anything new and respect what I'm actually doing. When I look at it, I have infinite time and I can just work more than Why not do an interview with someone for free. When I look at it, I a very limited amount of time. I must use it carefully. Then it encourages me to say no and to respect myself because, honestly, when I rather do an interview with someone I don't know or die, rather go play a game of legal legends with my friends. Most of the time, I'd rather go play an interview with the guy on League of Legends. Now, if this guy wanted to pay me $1000 that's enough to then by every skin on League of Legends for the next year or whatever. So then, sure, I'll do it for that much, and you could say, Well, you're just terrible. You're just a mean person or you can say whatever you want to. I respect my time, and I respect that. The purpose of my work time is to serve you. That's the purpose of my work. Time to be useful for you. I've already had hundreds of thousands of people by courses and tell me what kind of work I should be doing. If I'm going to do any work outside of what I've already been told is valuable by the people, you already following me, then I'm going to make it worth it. I'm not, and this essentially is a no, that is a yes for the right person. It's a no for 99% of the people. It's a yes for the 1% that I really want to interview and talk with. So I'm grateful today that I'm willing to set things up. I'm willing to deal with someone's frustrated response that then confirms they really did just want to use me to try and further their own business goals that that was the genuine motive. Rather than really wanting the interview and talk with me now. I haven't approached Oprah or Eckhart, Tolle, Lee or anyone for an interview because I don't need to do that. So when you reach out to people, then getting a no is often what happens. I've gotten a lot of knows from my life, and now I respect when people tell me No, I respect when people know their own limitations. This has been really hard for me. This is actually I used to say yes and be so enthusiastic about everything. It's been really hard for me to set up some rules that help respect my time, because I know if I work too much. If I try and take that interview instead of playing one game, illegal legends that day. I don't play any games. Don't do anything fun and just work. My work goes down the toilet and then I can't do very well to serve you. So this might look strange at first, and yet you can see when you respect yourself. When you Onley are willing to work within your limitations, then you can say no to things where you really don't want to do them 16. The purpose of working less is to make time for a balanced life.: We've talked about the problems solved by the four hour work day, all the common aggravations that most of us, I'm sure, have dealt with at work in one way or another. Now what's the positive thing? What's the purpose of doing this four hour work day while the problem solved, I think really sell. Why to do the flower work day. This to me is the purpose of doing a four hour work day is to have a balanced life now the four hour work days, based on the idea of having 16 hours a day being awake and then eight hours being asleep. So this a rough estimate. Now, if you sleep less, you could do a little more work if you want it or balance things out differently. This is a rough estimate of a breakdown of what I see is a balanced life. These to me are the key parts off a healthy life, so work is here in yellow. That's four hours, 25% of a day dedicated to work and then 25% of the day dedicated to self care. I call self care anything from going to a support group, praying brushing your teeth, eating, taking a walk, exercise anything similar. Anything you're doing, getting a massage, going to church, anything that specifically is there to take care of you to love and support your body's growth and your minds growth. It could be listening on inspirational book things that are purely to optimize your own body and mind's effectiveness into things like cleaning up around the house. It could be mowing the lawn for you some days doing the dishes. For me, it's taking the trash out. These things I call self care, keeping a clean house, a clean home, a clean mind. It can even be things like dealing with problems in dealing with stress in the form of going no counselor ah support group talking to someone, whatever it is you need to do to specifically take good care of yourself Now, things I wouldn't count in this are things that are bad habits. However, For most of my life, this was the biggest thing missing. I did not know how to do self care very well. All I knew how to do was work and have fun and then a little bit in the relationships. Most of my life, work and fun, where the majority of this graph and having too much working too much fun is unhealthy. When you neglect self care, nu neglect relationships. You pay the price in terms of pain, suffering, disease frustrate in anger, anxiety, depression, irritation, bad decisions, hangovers, all kinds of ways. You pay the price for not having a balanced life. So the four hour work day to me is the easiest place to lead an example of a balanced life . It often to me, takes more effort to maintain balance in. The rest of these work is easiest for me to see how much of it I'm doing. It's a little more obscure to see which percent of fun and relationships and self care these all go together very intimately, though, if you have a life unbalanced and work, if you're working 50% of the day in eight hour work day, you're taking away time from self care, relationships and fun. And there's no substitute for those things every single day, doing eight or 12 16 hours of work one day and then taking 16 hours of fun the next day. It just doesn't work well because then you can't live one day at a time when I do today's live one day at a time with a balanced life in the four hour work days, an essential part of this relationships to me or one of the biggest areas of happiness. If I'm doing poorly on myself care, it's hard to do well on my relationships. In other words, if I'm in a bad mood, it's hard to do very good in my marriage in my parenthood and my being a son, a brother, a friend. And then if I'm able to take care of myself and have good relationships, then it's pretty easy to have fun. I'm playing video games with my friends. I go to the mall with my wife and daughter. I talk on the phone and walk the dogs with my mom, and you can see that's a good example of how fun and self care and relationships all work together. So work in this one equation is often thing that can easily get out of balance. And when you've been programmed your whole life, that work should be about half of what you do. It throws off everything. Now if you're just a factory worker. You probably can have fun and relationships and self care in an eight hour work day. If you're a knowledge worker, though, it's hard to do it without something like this. 17. When doing knowledge and creative work, a balanced life means better quality.: when you're doing knowledge based work, there's something very specific going on in the brain. It's much different than trying to do manual labor or physical labor that you can pretty much do on autopilot without thinking. When I go cut the grass. I don't need to think when I go vacuum the house, my mind can literally not even produce a thought. Or maybe one or two thoughts, and I could get the work done. I can even do things like sometimes play call of duty black ops zombies and do an inspirational video at the same time. Because the game is somewhat mindless. Most of the time when you're doing knowledge and creative work, things like I'm making this course right here with you live as you can see, the videos uploaded in the background, the timer running here. This is knowledge based work that engages the brain on a pretty heavy lifting level. This means it's similar to a working out. When I go the gym. I realize that if I want to get in good shape, what I need to do is work out a little bit every single day that if I try and go work out for eight hours at the gym. When I'm only used to doing 30 minutes or an hour long workouts, I may give myself a heart attack. Now, why do we think our brains don't operate in a similar manner? Why is it we assume that our brains work? The exact same is our body. Why is it we think that we can do unlimited work with our brains? When we know with our body, it won't take on limited work. And you know, if you try and do too much with your body, it will drop in performance and then you will risk getting injured. If I went to the gym now, I could probably do a two hour workout fairly safely. If I had tried to push in 23456 hours, I would be getting into injury level now. Yes, my body could work up to doing 8 10 12 hour workouts. This body does very well scaling into doing additional exercise. The brain does not. It does not work the same way the brain look at a child. I see my daughter. She doesn't want to do the same thing all day. She likes to go mess around with life. She likes to be playful. Our brains are very much little Children. When you try and force your brain to work out the same way, you can force your body toe workout. The brain fights back. It gets irritated. It gets depressed, It gets annoyed. It gets frustrated. It throws a temper tantrum. Just like a little kid now is an adult. These behaviors will come out sideways. They'll come out in diseases in the body. They'll come out in stress. They'll come out and anxiety. They'll come out in not wanting to live anymore. They'll come out in unhealthy habits like drinking too much, using other substances, playing video games too much. They will come out in affairs. They'll come out in all kinds of sideways manners. What I have today is a recipe live a life where I use my brain just enough and don't go overboard. The consequences are immediately obvious to me now when I go overboard because I'm sensitive. However, for most of my life I was so armored up I couldn't even see what I was doing wrong. I couldn't understand why, after I had a 12 hour work day. I woke up the next day and felt like I just didn't want to do anything useful for the rest of the week. That's how the human brain works, similar in that respect to the body. If you go push way past your limits, your body will force you to slow down or you will get hurt. One of the two. You will end up slowing down now with the brain. Why is it we think that we can sit at work eight hours a day and do our best work all those hours? What I've seen, I have about 1 to 4 hours a day of my very best work. And you can see it the longer I go do this course fatigue starting to set in. I'm starting to repeat myself more. Some of the lectures at the very beginning were the sharpest. Some of those one hour. Those very first lectures were right on target. I hope they were. They were very quick into the point of. The longer I keep going, the more I keep dragging my points out. Going off topic. That's because the brain does not want to do the same thing all day. The brain wants toe. Have fun. It wants to change things that wants to play around like a child and like a child. If you force a child to try and do something for a long period of time, they'll get bored. They'll sit down and cry. They'll get mad. They won't do it at all. I remember from being forced to do lots of things as a kid. All the temper tantrums. I had the Onley differences that are sickness tanks, Mawr forms. As an adult, we don't sit down and cry. We go the bar. We have 10 or 15 20 liquor drinks if you're me or maybe five or six beers, if you're someone else and then you go home and throw up and wake up the next day and do it all over again, or you start pursuing some unhealthy habit or you go the gym and exercise for four hours, or you start trying to chase another woman. If you've already got one or all kinds of these behaviors that all come back to being frustrated from being annoyed from being pissed off from forcing your brain to do too much to the point where it starts to unravel where it starts to lose it today. I respect that. My brains got about four hours, a good work in it, and after that it's going to start time. Gravel and I know the consequences for unraveling are very serious for me. I do not want my brain no unravel. My brain needs to be balanced. It needs to be in a good, happy place. Then why I don't mean you for your by happy like a I'm on top of the role. I mean a peaceful standard place. I don't want manic depression. When you work too much, you're buying yourself manic depression. That means you're up. What you're doing this crazy worker in there, your writing, all this colder, your building, all these things. And then you've got, like, two months where you're useless, where you can't do anything or where you're in the middle of something unhealthy. So today I see. And this is starting to appear all over the place and things I read when you're doing knowledge work, it's a completely different ball game than factory work. Why do you think they have nap pods at Google? Some of these companies that are at the very top, where all the workers do knowledge work are starting to catch on to this. Also starting to see the human brain has some very hard limits on what it's capable of doing in terms of producing creative work. And if you push past it, there's consequences. Now, often younger people will try and just blast through these things anyway. And then we wonder why we get cancer and strokes and heart attacks and we eat too much, and then we're all unhealthy by the time or 40. Today I'm grateful to live a balanced life where I respect that. If I want to do my best work, I only have so many hours a day where my brain will tolerate it and that you can see that in the making off this course. 18. This system is tolerant of problems that come up.: one of the best things about the four hour work day is the tolerance for problems that's built in when I have a balanced life today. Then I can handle in just four hours of work, easily having to make changes according to problems. Now, I said a bit about this in accepting the things I cannot change when I'm elaborating. More on now is the ability to deal with problems that come up when you only work for hours each day and there's some problem. It's often easy to move your schedule round. For example, I just took the dogs out for a walk and had lunch because I was getting a bit fatigued after 2.5 hours of work with only a 15 minute break. And you can see, I forgot to even restart the clock up here because I just had another problem. Right when I restarted, I put the Mac to sleep. Well, for some reason, I just recorded the lecture about saying I'm busy or not, saying I'm dizzy anymore and camped Asia didn't actually save the file. I don't know why that happened. What I do know is that ah correction was very easy to make because there's no time pressure . There's no constraint. There's no hurry. There's no panic. It's easy to step back and look at a solution and say, Oh, that didn't go hard planned. Let me see if I can replicate the problem. Tried it again, replicated the problem. Okay, let me see if I can fix it. Restarted the computer. Now it's working. Now. If I had a 12 hour day under pressure to film all the lectures, every problem that comes up is a great opportunity for a breakdown. Every time the dogs bark or get crazy, that's an opportunity to just lose it. Oh, my God, have all this work to do. Oh, what am I gonna do that I can't take it? This has to stop. And whenever that energy comes up in relation to a problem, the problem becomes 10 to 100 times harder to solve mawr time consuming and mawr draining than it is if you've got everything balanced and you're only working a little bit each day . It used to drive me insane when the Internet would go out when I was trying to work because I had all this pressure. I've had three days often where I hadn't done the work and then the one damn seeing down to do 10 hours of work. The Internet. So now if the Internet goes out and I'm about to sit down and do work, it doesn't matter. I'm not losing that much work. There's always other things I can do. I can go switch and do a different part of my life than so. This balanced approach makes it easy to seamlessly and smoothly handle problems. It's not that I couldn't handle problems before. It's that problems used to consume 10 to 100 times as much time, energy, effort and often money. Now it's amazing out fast. I just blast through problems because the element of frustration is not there, and that's because the element of pressure is not there. I work every single day. I realize I'm not going to accomplish everything overnight. Therefore, if there's a minor setback today, so what if I can't finish this right now? So what? I'll do it tomorrow. There's that peace of mind that I'm willing to work every day, which makes it easy than to step out of a problem and look at it the way you'd look at it. If it was someone else's problem, why is it in life? It seems like other people's problems are so easy to solve and then our own problems. We often can't even see them, let alone actually solve them. It's because of that inability to step back for a minute in a peaceful point of view and say, Okay, what's going on here instead of the emotional stuff instead of that reaction? When you're in that reaction, there's no hope. Do you can see it's big progress for me when the dogs bark even I don't get upset. It doesn't bother me because I'm here to do my best with you. And like I said with the perfection part, being a perfectionist is a great benefit to trying to live a life full of agony and pain. Frustration. Not being a perfectionist is a great benefit off this system that I show you hear freedom from demanding that everything in life be perfect when you don't demand everything in life is perfect. It's pretty easy to solve the problems that come up 19. I never have to say I am busy anymore! Take a look at my schedule!: today. I never have to say I'm busy anymore. That, to me is one of the greatest gifts off the four hour work day. The fact that I don't have to schedule and plan every last minute of my life, that I can feel like I have enough time to do what I need to and to keep myself available for doing the things that really matter. The things that really matter, like spending time with my wife and daughter, like hanging out with my friends and family, like sitting here doing this course with you whenever it feels right. Let's look at my schedule today. This is March 25th today and I've got the clock back running. I've got I lost the last time. I've had tolerant of problems. I've got about another hour, and that will be enough work for today. So if I scroll down here, here's my schedule for today. These purple things are my wife's schedule. So these this is my schedule. You can see I made space today to do this course. I made space yesterday for two hour call with co instructor. I have space tomorrow for whatever comes up. I don't know ahead of time what the right work is going to be for that day now when it's today, I am able to get a little bit of insight today as to what the right workers. I have a feeling that today this is the right work. Now I don't have to guess too much because it's also what I'm doing. The key is with the floor workday to make space for the right work toe happen. How am I supposed to know today so much about today and all of life that I can know what the right work is today and what the right work is tomorrow and what the right work was yesterday? That's kind of ridiculous. The one thing I can do is no that if I make space to do the right work, the right work will get done. If I try and play God and act like I know what I'm supposed to dio tomorrow in terms of the right work at the right time, I'm leaving myself into misery and frustration, and I've led myself in new misery and frustration enough times to we open to a different way of living now for me. I was able to get that different way of living, and still I'm able to get it every day. I go to a every day. That's what I do based on the past and the experience I've had in my life. Now that exact thing obviously isn't for everyone. And yet the one thing I schedule every day is myself. Care time. That's one hour where I also work on relationships, and I often laugh a lot. That's one hour I schedule every single day. There's no work. No work goes on in that our self care relationship building and sometimes fun. That's the one thing I schedule every single day, and you'll notice I also tomorrow scheduled a massage. Another hour of self care. Self care is one of the few things I do schedule because self care is often one of the easiest things for me to cut. When I have this open schedule, I'm not likely to cut work. Work is likely to be the first and most interesting thing I'm trying to do, So all I need for the best work toe have is space to do it. It's just like if you want to have your friends over all. You really need a space toe. Have them over. You don't have to have all these other things Now. If you have no space to have your friends over, it's not possible. If you really want to do your best work all, you really need a space to do it. So I'm grateful today when I have this space, it eliminates the need for me to ever say or think I'm busy. And yet at the same time, I'm doing more than I've ever done before. I have more responsibilities, especially with being a husband and a new dad. And with all the students here with you on you, to me, over 100,000 students and with my friends and family who I keep up with, I have more responsibilities than ever. I have MAWR opportunity to say I'm busy more than ever in my life, and yet this schedule allows me to balance my life out. It's based on trust. I trust myself tomorrow to organize my day tomorrow. As is best to balance my life now. I used to schedule things out a lot, and that was based on me not trusting later versions of myself. Now, if you think about that, why wouldn't you trust yourself to know what you need to do tomorrow? Tomorrow? That's the whole key to this whole system is trust. You've got to have faith and trust in your own ability to do good work if you don't. And when I started going to say I had no faith in trust in myself, it all if you don't you've got to go somewhere to get help. You will not get out of it without help. Now, I don't know where you need to go. I'm not saying you should go today at all. If you don't have a drinking problem, there'd be no reason for you to go to a. There's lots of places you can go to get help. If you honestly realize you can't trust yourself or control yourself or balance your own life out, there's help. That's why a is the one thing that's in my schedule every day because I know that helps me do everything else. If I get help doing everything else that I can trust, that I'll do my four hours of work every day at whatever time is best. And I can trust that. I won't do something today to screw up what I need to do tomorrow. 20. Working a little every day is best for long term memory.: If you like science, I like science and my family's begin the science, working a little bit every day as compared to working for five or three days a week. Working every day is the way you can learn the fastest, because that's how you continue to build your long term memory. The strength of this system I show you here is in the science. When you learn something one day, it's hard to make a whole lot of progress in one day. However, when you go to sleep, your brain processes everything you learn that day, the next day you can get up and start farther head than the day before. The same is your brain gets fatigued, doing one thing a lot during the day. It uses what it learned the day before to do whatever you did now more effectively than yesterday. For example, if you want to learn a new video game, a new sport, a new hobby, anything you want to do. If you'll do a little bit of it every single day, you'll be amazed how fast you learn. It's almost no way that you can learn something once a week, and the even compare the effectiveness with someone who's learning every single day. I demonstrate this consistently with my experience on you, to me and the things I teach. I'm able to learn a fantastic amount more than people who have done it longer than me arm or able to get good results with the things I do every day. Not because I'm brilliant, not because of anything except simple science. I do a little bit every day. My mind then is able to save and process that information, and then I get to do it again. The more times you go through that process of letting your brain sleep and then process everything and waking up on a new day them or times you do that, the faster you learn. This is evident for me and things like school. I was a quick learner in school, relatively to some of the other students. However, I couldn't learn hardly anything in school compared to how fast I learned everything. Now I ripped through learning new things now because I go do them a little bit every day if I'm trying to learn something new, and that's just simple science off how the brain works the brain as short term memory and long term memory. What you really want for learning is to get things into long term memory. If you look at almost any training program, it is at least five days a week. I went to the police Academy. It was five days a week that repeated every day. Effort makes a big difference. So I'm grateful that I've learned if I want to learn something, all have to do is do a little bit of it every day, and I learned it really fast. If I want to advance in my work, it helps a lot to do a little bit of it every day instead of trying to do it all at once. 21. Is 4 hours a day or 28 hours per week is not enough time?: Now it's time to discuss the potential problems, the barriers you might run into mentally and practically for implementing the full hour work day in your life. The most logical one is saying, Well, that's not enough time. Four hours a day or 28 hours a week. That's not enough time. How can I get anything done in four hours a day? I can show you here what I've done, that's all. I can dio 2000 videos on you to me in a little over a year now tell me that four hours a day was not enough time to do that. You can see proof here off what I'm able to do with four hours a day now, you might say at this point, OK, that's great that you I can't do that. How do you know what you're capable of? How is it that right at this moment you realize what you could produce? What you can do If you have told me two years ago, Jerry, in two years you'll be teaching 56 courses online. You have made over 2000 videos uploaded over 400 new ones to YouTube answered over 2000 questions and still have more time than ever. Only work for over today. I would have told you that's impossible. I would have said There's no way. At that time I was still trying to schedule my life. In other words, two years ago, I had no idea of what was possible for me today. Today I have no idea what will be going on two years from now. I could be dead two years from now. We all could. The fact is, I don't know. I could guess. Maybe if I'm lucky, I will be doing a similar thing. Still, in a happy situation. Maybe have another child. Who knows? The fact is, none of us knows what will happen in the future. For sure. You only know a little bit about what's going on right now. If you can break that web of certainty that you know what you're capable of, then you can fully step into your potential as long as you think that you're nothing better than a machine, that you're nothing better than someone who sits at the grindstone and turns out a certain amount of work in a certain amount of time. If you I don't see your own potential. No one else will see it either. I guess that's not completely true in the sense that I can see your potential in that sense of, I realize I have no idea what you're capable of. You have an unlimited capability in my mind. There's an amazing amount of things you could do. So I see what could be your potential No. One seizure concrete, real potential. There is no one who would have looked at me two years ago and said This guy could make 56 courses in more than 2000 hours of video make two plus $1,000,000 in sales on this website . No one would have thought that that would have seemed insane. The first person who had to think I had greater potential was me. I had to see that I was enough as a person. If you feel your enough is a person than the time you have is enough. Also, if you don't feel like you're enough is a person, nothing will satisfy you. If you feel like you're not good enough, deep down it doesn't matter how much time you have to work. It doesn't matter how much free time you have, you'll never have enough. If you feel like a good enough person who can do good enough work. And I've noticed, I'm not saying great. I don't feel like a great person any more than I feel like a terrible person. I feel like a good enough person who could do good enough work. And this is what a good enough person conduce you that does good enough work. I know you are a good enough person who can do good enough work, so there's no reason four hours a day is not enough time for you. Yes, some days it might be five or six. Some days it might be zero. Some days it might be one or 24 hours on average. I am confident that that's good enough for you. At the same time, I realized I don't know your life. I don't know what you've been through. I don't know what you're doing. I barely know a little bit about me. I'm grateful four hours is enough for me, and four hours has been something. I've continually gotten a higher return on 22. How can you do this with a job and a family?: I'm grateful today I have a family and I'm here to tell you you condemn definitely do this in complete sync with whatever responsibilities you have today, because I can. I very much have a full time job and a family today. Now your full time job might look different than mine. I have thousands of people that expect things out of me all the time. It's I don't have any one Boston particular. I have a lot of little boss is kind of You could say you are one of the people that can have the ability to expect things out of me that asked things. And so that is a part of what I have to do. I have a lot of work to do today. This probably what I do would consist of two or three jobs at most companies. So I've got a full plate of work today that I do, so if I can do it, you can do it, too. Now, on a practical note, if you have an actual 9 to 5 job, you might ask, what? How can I have a four hour work day? There's lots of things you can do as long as you see choices you can make and choices you are making, you have options. If you don't see any of the choices you're making and you don't see any of the options you're ignoring, then you have no choice is then there's no hope. If you're in a 9 to 5 job, you're there because you've decided to be there. For whatever reasons, you've decided to be there. You could quit that job. You could negotiate work at home time. You could negotiate it to a four hour work day. I don't know exactly what you can do. There are things you can do, no matter what situation you're in. The Onley situation you can be in that's hopeless is when you look around and say there's nothing else I can do when you take no responsibility for your own life and the choices you've made and are currently making. If you're working 9 to 5 job, you can leave now. If your next response is well, yeah, but then I wouldn't have any money. Not necessarily. You don't know that you might have to do something else to make money. Sometimes you have to leave seeming financial security in order to get a better way of living. I quit a job. I was a graduate student part time when I started my business, and I quit doing that to do my business full time, even though my business made no money, even though my business was not profitable for more than two years after that, I borrowed a lot of money to get here. I struggled a lot financially to get here, and yet I did execute the choice. I had to get out of the 9 to 5 career path and get into having my own lifestyle, a four hour balanced work day where I can live a peaceful life. I risked a lot by quitting the job I had. I risked everything career wise by quitting that I had very few other opportunities. Once I did that, that I could see outside of having my own business. And yet, even if you do quit a job and it doesn't work out, there's more jobs out there. There's more things you can do often. The things that limit you the most are the things you are doing and even looking at my family, I'm grateful my wife here and then my daughter here and my wife's family here I have a wonderful family and yet having a family's limiting, I have a place I need to be, and that's with my family. I don't belong anywhere else in this entire world. In other words, my family is one of my biggest limitations. Sometimes, if you need to get to a better life, you may need to shed some of your limitations. Now, I have no intention of shutting any of my family limitations. I did, however, shed my job limitations. So if you want to do this, you may need to take a leap of faith out of what you're doing now into a better way of living. And, yes, it may be uncomfortable. First, the way of living I'm in now was extremely uncomfortable for quite a while, and yet now things are better than they've ever been, and they've been that way for a while, and I don't see why they need to change unless I decide to step back in to somewhere else where they've changed. I know life changes on a daily basis, but my attitude doesn't have to change if you can see the choices you're making. You can get to this from wherever you're at right now. All that requires is one leap of faith from whatever position you're in today. I'm taking that same leap of faith with you here right now. By continuing to do what I did the day before. I don't know that this will work for me again. I don't know that I could have my whole online presence wiped out overnight. I don't know what's going to happen in the future. I'm taking a leap of faith that I do enough today. I do my best today and everything will be all right. 23. What about other people working 60 hours a week and doing great things?: the last question all address here is what about other people working 60 hours a week and doing all these amazing things? Do you want to work 60 hours a week or do you rather work four hours a day? 60 hours a week is 5 12 hour days or 6 10 hour days or some ah, lot of our seven days a week, or even 15 hours, four days a week. I used to work a lot of hours when I was a police officer, and that was one of the unhappiest, most unstable times of my life. I don't care what anyone says today either about their life except as it can help me. If someone else can work 60 hours a week, that's good. If they can be productive and do everything they need to in 60 hours a week and be happy and have a good, peaceful life, that's good. I work four hours a day on average. I have a good, happy, peaceful life today, so you're welcome to choose whatever you'd rather model your life after is fine with me. If you think everything I've said scrap, that's fine. I'm just telling you what works for me today in my life. What I do is I try and see what works for other people in their lives, and I test it out in my life. I've tested working 60 hours of week. Plenty of times I've tested 40 hours a week. I've tested 30 hours a week with 3 10 hour days or with 65 hour days. This is what I've found that works the best four hours a day, seven days a week on average, with tolerance for zero days and other days of maybe a little bit five or six hours of work . So you don't have to worry about what everyone else is doing. The only thing today that there is to do it, see what other people are doing that could be useful for you in your life. I'm not out to prove I'm better than anyone, someone who work 60 hours a week and do a great jobs no better, no worse than me. We're equals. I'm in equal with every human being on this planet. Someone's not a superior human being to me because they could work 60 hours. I'm not a superior human being toe anyone else because of money I've made or because I'm or four hours I'm just another person on this planet who in the future will be for gotten And in the past, no one had ever heard of. So today I'm grateful to be here with you. And I hope what I've talked about here that comes from my life, which I learned from others first, is useful here with you. 24. How am I practicing the 4 hour workday a year later?: thank you very much for getting all the way through the original version off this class. I'm so excited. You've watched so much here with me and I'm honored to have this chance to continue teaching. You now have something amazing to share with you here because this four hour workday is so powerful that it allows me to work through some huge changes in my business. For example, when I made this class, I put this out as a class on you to me. Since that happened, I got banned from you to me because they chou it's their website. They just gave some reasons and got rid of me. I had 70 something classes on, you know, me and I made a I was making anymore from 20 $80,000 a month that you Timmy, is paying me often 200 plus $1000 in actual sales every month. And in June, I got banned in 2016 and this simple four hour workday format has allowed me to pivot toe, adapt to change over everything I do and to still have the best year I've ever had in my business. Even though I experienced the worst failure I've had in five years of my business online. The utter devastation I 95% of my income in June 2016 was coming from you to me when they banned me. I lost 95% of my income in the middle of the year and still made a profit way bigger than I've ever made in another year in my business, because the nice thing about a four hour workday is you do it and you show up out of the joy of doing it. It's not a means to an end. I'm not working five days a week so I can spend two days with my family. I'm working out of the love enjoy of doing it. And no matter what happens, I show up and I do something. So when I got banned from you to me, guess what? Then I switched over. I did some audio books and then I tried some gaming online. I tried doing all these live videos, and now I'm teaching on skill share. I've got a new patri on page and the outlook is even better than you to me. I show you these numbers to show you there's some fantastic potential for making business online. I show you these numbers because they were helpful. Other people showed me their numbers like this, and I found it really helpful. I thought, You know what? If this person can make this much money online, there's no reason I can't do it to. And that's what I hope when you watch the things. I hope that you'll see this isn't some remarkable are amazing course that no one could ever do anything like that. This is a very ordinary down the Earth course by very ordinary, down to earth guy. And if I can do these things, you can do these things to. If you want to work full time online, you can and how I made most of my money this year by teaching class online. Even though I lost the main place, I was teaching classes. There's more places to teach. I'm grateful. I'm now teaching on skill. Share is the main place. I'm making my classes and since I got banned from you to me, I've greatly expanded my YouTube channel. My YouTube channel since I got banned from you to me is put on something like 50. It's about doubled the sides of my YouTube channel because without putting all those videos on you to me, then I've been taking a lot more time to build up my YouTube channel. So I've just so excited to share with you. Even though there was utter devastation that happened to my business in the middle of practicing this for work week, it is still held out. This is so powerful that when changing almost all kinds of things in my business, the same basic things I've shown you in this course are still really effective. So I'm so excited to experience these with you today, and I hope this useful to get some updates from me in seeing how I've been practicing this since I originally made this class. 25. Constant improvement is the core principle I work by: one of the core principles I've shared in this course with you that I hope you've seen through all these videos is the idea of constant improvement of consistently making what I'm doing even better. So the point of the four hour work day is to not take two days off every week from constant improvement, but to make little adjustments to my business every single day to make little improvements that add up rapidly. You see, if I make a little bit of improvement every day on my business, then even when bad things happen and I can't control, I continue to just improve whatever wherever I'm at. So after I got banned from you to me, constant improvement that I've emphasized in this class dictated that whatever I do, I start doing it and keep doing better. That's allowed me today to have a business and have a chance to still be here with you. Despite having as Joe Paris asked the other day, What's your biggest failure getting banned from you know me at the same time, the bigger the failure, the bigger opportunity. I think skill share is a much better place to teach classes on an ongoing basis because once you start watching with me, you can just keep watching. Once you've paid once for your subscription, you can just watch all of my classes without having to pay. And with me being able to give free coupons away, I can let everyone watch for free. Also, who doesn't have the subscription. So it's an amazing opportunity for me to build an ongoing relationship with you, where I don't have to keep selling you things with constant improvement, you may have noticed since I filmed this class, you'll notice I've now got a green screen behind me. What you don't see is that now I will have to do is push the record button and then hit the record button again, and my video is done. Now you may notice that the original videos they didn't have the little kind of introductory few seconds. I would cut those off on these. You get the click when I start the video in the click. When I stopped the video and at the same time that is eliminated half off the time it takes me I can now form. I could film a video class like the one I originally did with you that is in the middle of this class. I could film it even faster. I could do a class like this in about three hours now instead of four. So the the beauty of this system is the value of constant improvement that I want to every day be improving my business. If I get a video production process like I have now, that's incredibly smooth. Then I have the opportunity to do things like improved my website what I'm doing on skill share. I try to constantly improve my skill share classes every single day, which is why I'm going back to, Of course, that's a year old and going in, putting some new videos into it. The constant improvement allows me to make what might someday look like just a unbelievably amazing business. And yet to me, the whole step of the way looks very ordinary because I simply work on making it better every day in the car manufacturing business. Toyota has this same approach, and this is why Georgia has such amazing cars today. It's not because they just make amazing cars. It's that 30 40 50 years ago they committed to making constant improvements and to improve as much as possible, not just stop and say, Well, we got this part to meet the standards, but to say How much can we improve this? What can we improve every day in every aspect off the car? And if it works in car manufacturing, it certainly works effectively with my online business. So I'm grateful today to have an even better business that is able to serve and help even more people than a year ago. That is far more effective, it quickly producing videos and getting them straight out to you. So I'm very grateful have the chance to do constant improvement every day. And I hope concretely mentioning this principle has helpful for you in case you made it through the rest of this class and you just like you didn't even see that somehow so thank you very much. And I appreciate you watching this class 26. Little improvements every day add up to a lot fast: how much can your company be worth just by increasing the value of it 1% each day? Now I'm going to show you a live exercise here that I hope will be really helpful for you to see that doing constant, never ending improvement that you can make an amazing company just by doing a little bit better every day. So let's say when you start your business, it's worth about $1000 which that might be optimistic. It might be pessimistic, but let's say it's worth about $1000 if someone was to come along. And by, let's say, you've got your website up, you got your YouTube channel. You got some videos. You got the basics of a business set up your basic set up. If someone wanted to come along and buy it and run the business for themselves and use it to make money, let's just say about $1000. After I had worked on my business, I have been lucky to get people to pay $1000 but after I'd spent at least $1000 for me a few $1000 my business was worth about $1000 if you just wanted to buy it and use it for yourself. So let's just start with $1000 and let's see how much a consistent emphasis on little improvements is every day. So I have just opened a blank spreadsheet up here, So we're going to do this in in real time together here. I think this should be fun. So I'm going to put a formula in and try and impress you with my knowledge of Microsoft Excel, which could potentially be a mistake. But it might also work really good. So what I want to do is multiply, So I want the product in here. So we're going to insert function. We're going to put product a two, and then we want to multiply by 1.1. So that means we're multiplying by 10%. So as you can see here, this is this cell times 10% so, technically, 101.1 it ups the amount by 10%. So let's say Well, let's start this on day one, let's say and we'll do the same thing here. We're going to put a function in on this cell and we're simply going to do some on this one . We're going to add that cell going. Add one to it. So that's two. So let's say today is day one. Your company's worth 1000 and the nice thing you can switch to value up if you want. If you want to make it worth 100 you can do this. If you want to make it worth mawr, you can put in more zeros. I would say my company's worth at least 100,000 today, but we're just going to start this with 1000 right here. So let's start with the 1000 see what happens with the A little bit of improvement every single day on it. And all we're going to do is literally copy and paste this down here. Now, look, if you make a 1% improvement on your company, that doesn't sound like much. Actually, I I messed it up. I put 10% in here. You're like, Thank God they're 10%. Let's just do a 10% improper, a 1% improvement. So I did. Excuse me, I did 10%. Let's do 1%. I appreciate you doing this with me essentially real time. So what we're doing, we're starting on day one. We're making a 1% improvement. I have a question. Can you make your business 1% better today? I'm doing this. Video is a part of making my business 1% better today. I am improving one of my 70 courses today. Significantly, I'm hoping to make a 1% improvement on my business. So let's say you multiply by one point. 01 that's 1%. But realistically, you could make your business 10% better when you started in one day. But let's just say 1%. That's conservative to start with its aggressive to go forward, so you've got 1% improvement. So on the second day, your business is worth $10 more. On the third day, it's worth $20 more than it was two days ago. Now you might think Jerry will this that's not gonna add up very fast, is it? Well, fortunately, we can do an exercise pretty easy. We will go over here and shift and go down and just paste. So thankfully, excel makes things like this really easy. And now I'm so fancy here. Look I'm gonna go try and do the number layout here so that on Lee has two significant did or no significant digits. So we want this whole column to not have all these extra numbers. So there were just going around on the numbers. This will make it simple. So look in just 20 would two days after your initial day. So through in three weeks, your business value has increased 20% in just three weeks, just with little 1% improvements every day. So let's scroll down. Let's see how much like half a year makes a difference. So you go forward. You keep making these little improvements. And soon Look at this year. Business when you've got through half a year now is worth $12,000. You've got there a little over half year. Let's do a full year. Let's just do a full year. We're gonna go down to 366 days here because I started with one up of the top. Now, after a year, your business and initially started, which was pretty worthless and and where I'm at, at least where you're out of $1000. Maybe a great business Let's look at this now. A year into your business, your business is now worth $37,000 instead of 1000. That is a 37 times what you started at in just a year, and all you're doing is making a little 1% improvements every single day. And that's where I've done in my business. I started off of the business worth about $1000 I just try and make little improvements to it every day. Now you might think, Well, how am I ever going to get a big company this way? Just keep doing that. Let's scroll down into the seven hundreds of see if I can or 800. Let's see, after about two years or so, this is just close to two years. Let's paste. Let's see what it's worth after a couple years and look at how big the numbers are getting . Look at how big these numbers are now. Look at this number right here. Your business, Then, after two years, if you're able to make little 1% improvements is up to $4 million in just two years now you might think that's crazy and 1% improvement every day. Yes, you just sit down and try and fix. Make something a little bit better every single day, and in two years you can have a business just with 1% improvements. That's worth $4 million. Now. You could even go back and do this different ways. For example, if you change, the original number of the whole equation changes. So if you start with $100 you might think, OK, I don't have $1000 business. I Let's say I start with $100 business. Guess what? In two years, even starting with $100 business, let's look and see. Your business is worth $400,000 in two years, starting with $100 business. The point is, little improvements help out fantastically Now you might want to argue with me and this, you might say, All right, Jerry. Well, we'll just skip all this stuff. Look, just controls the go back and undo that Could, because you're not going to be able to get a 1% improvement every day after you've been able to go for a year. So let's just look at a year. Let's say Okay, sure, After you've built the business for a year, it might be difficult to improve it by 1% every day. For example, I have a business that it's it's got a lot of working parts to it. I have 70 online class on skill. Sure, I've got websites on. I've got course on other websites. I have 1000 plus YouTube videos up. I have books out. I have Facebook, page a Twitter, etcetera, etcetera. So can I really make a 1% improvement every single day to the existing business I have? You might argue that the more valuable your business gets, the harder it gets to make improvements like 1%. So what if Let's say we changed the formula at this point? What if for down here we changed the formula after a year that let's say we can't make it 1% better every day. But let's say that even with a bigger business, the best we can do is make it 1/3 of a percent better every day. So that means now, instead of a 1% improvement every day, it's a 1% improvement every three days. Let's see what happens to the business will go forward into the two year marker. So around the high seven, under slow eight hundreds, let's see how it looks. And I un selected that. So we're gonna have to go back up here and scroll. And I do these live examples to just show you how this stuff works in real time. So that way I don't have take any time before I do everything as fast as possible. So this way didn't after prepare anything beforehand. And this is how I max out doing so many things. So let's look even with a less big improvement than initial that constant never ending improvement. Even with only 1/3 of a percent improvement every single day, the business is now worth 100 and $33,000 after two years from having been started at $1000 . So you see that businesses eyes worth 100 and 33 times what it was worth after two years. So this is how I look at and work in my business. Now, as many things I have online, it might be reasonable. Say, Jerry, with everything you've got online, the best you can realistically hope to improve is 1/10 of a percent every day. Now, no matter how much you update your website, new videos, new classes realistically only hope to do 1/10 of a percent every day, and that takes into account some days you might make a big improvement, like a 1% improvement, and other days you might make a 1% mistake you might screw up and like for me, my business took a like 90% cut when I got banned from you know me. So some bad things may happen in life, but the point is you control the effort and the improvement you make every day. So I've had a business now five years and let's say what if I go forward then like, five years and I go in down here? What's I need, like three more years? So that's like 1000 more days. So let's go down here. This will be about five years in business. So, after starting a business worth maybe $1000 with the constant never ending improvements, guess what? How much is my business worth? Do you think? After five years, after five years, even with the next two years on Lee doing 1/10 of a percent improvement every day. I've got a business worth 300 plus $1000. Now the power of this is for being able to do your work consistently and go for like this. So if I go forward, let's say I want to go forward like 10 years. So that's 3000 something days. That means I need to go forward into the thousands. Now I'm working on making a business that I love doing, and I can continue to do indefinitely. So I'm making a business that I want to continue to improve a little bit every day. So let's see what opportunity I have, even with just improving 1/10 of a percent every day, an average, you'll see, I'm scrolling through 900,000 and see. The bigger the numbers get, the faster it goes up a 1,000,002 million. And the secret is this is how you build an amazing company. You make it a little bit better every single day. You don't have to hit the lottery. You don't have to get venture funding. You don't have to do all these amazing things. You just do your work. You do your best every single day. And guess what? From having a company that might be worth a few 100,000. Now I have a company that I can very reasonably expect in 10 years to be worth at least $10 million at a minimum. And how much money am I going to have made in the process of making a company is worth $10 million. So you see, even with 1/10 of a percent of improvement every day, that's a very small little improvement for me putting this video in this course. I hope that alone is 1/10 of a percent improvement today, and then I do that every day. So then, after having my business for 5146 days, starting from $1000 I very, reasonably making little improvements every day can expect to have a business worth $10 million in 10 years from now and now. Wouldn't you like to have a business worth $10 million started from 1000? I think that's great. So the math is very simple on the math does not lie little improvements every single day add up to a massive result. And even if you get a huge cut in the middle of what you're doing with me getting banned from teaching on the top website I was teaching on, I lost 95% of my income with one email. And even with that, my never ending improvement is absolutely relentless. Had continuing the growth even with the massive cut like that, my business did not die and go under. I continue to just work with what I have left and the bigger it gets, the more I'm ableto continue to sustain more cuts and diversify so that no one asset gets cotton wipes the whole business. Oh, so I'm very grateful to have this to share with you after having started my business after having been through the beginning of this process from having a fairly worthless company 25 years later, having a company that has a good value to it today and having the outlook that in 10 years I will have a company worth at least $10 million all I have to do is keep doing what I'm already doing every day. Keep improving a little bit. So I hope this is extremely helpful for you today. I love you and want you to have an amazing business. I want you to have the ability. If you like to have the life I do. I just get to do these kinds of things like this video every day. Hang out with my family, go to my meanings, have fun, love my life. That's why make this so I hope this is helpful in showing you clearly through math that you don't have to ever do anything amazing. All you have to do is make a little improvements every single day. 27. Pricing for services with the 4 hour workday: what has been my biggest challenge for doing this four hour workday? The biggest challenge I've found is offering my services. Offering my services has been extremely difficult because with my emphasis on doing so much in such a short period of time, it's difficult for me then to put that into a service that has the same component to it. It also is difficult because while I practice honesty and transparency in my business, then when it comes to services, I've the temptation to hide how much things cost. Because if I show them how much I really want per hour, then they won't want to do any business to me. So what I've got, I have a new page jury banfield dot com slash services. And finally, after five years of doing business online, I have a services page I'm very happy with, and what I've done is I've set my hourly rate at a rate I'm excited toe work for, and the minimum is an hour for $373 right now. Well, actually, you can save 20% If you go the hour a month route, you can go over to patri on and then you'll see it's $299 plus for an hour. So that's my base rate. And then I give up to 20% off. If you get 25 hours a month, then you get 25 hours for $5980. You get 25 hours off my time. So what I've finally done is just simplifying, said, Look, I'm just going to charge for my time. I'm not going to try and package everything up into some slick looking service that says for this much money, I'll do this with your business. I'm going to allow just say, Look, you pay me and I will work with you to get what you want done in this fastest possible. I will naturally integrate what you want into my work schedule, and I will explain as much as I can based on this page to give you an idea that look, I can do anything you see me doing. If you see me having published books or doing Facebook ads building my business, making video courses coaching. You can expect that I'm able to do what you see me doing. And then I have things like one on one calls if you want to talk with me just by your hours up. So this has been really difficult because of the part of setting the price. What do I set the price, and how much do I price everything for? And what I decided to do was to keep in mind this whole four hour workday time and to realize I only have a very limited amount of time. I want to work that if someone pays me for 25 hours of work, then that is almost an entire week off my time. And that needs to be worth it, because in a week I can film an entire video course or two or three in a week. So if I'm going to give up time to serve clients, it needs to be transparent as to exactly how much money I got I'm going to get. And then I be transparent in terms of exactly what work I've done in how much time. So this has been difficulty because of the temptation to set my prices in terms of services and then requires so much work, for example, of Facebook ad campaign service. I try and price it at $1000 then am I going to be able to do everything they want within a few hours, and then when I've done a lot of is I messed it up. I've set prices that were too low, and then I didn't want to do anything for the client and then declined at about experience . Everyone lost. The client lost a freelancer. I collaborated with, wasted their time, and I lost. I ended up spending a bunch of my time and energy to do a poor job serving clients. So now I've got a rate I've I asked. I said, What is the minimum amount? I would be really happy toe workout. So I started out of $149 an hour for a call with me and then when I figured was okay. If someone will pay $149 an hour, I'll just let this scale up. I will let people dictate what my time is worth. So I said $150 an hour because my time is basically worth an hour. Ah, $100 an hour to just film video courses right now, even though I filmed this class back when I was on you, to me and my time was worth more per hour in filming all those uni courses. Now it's down to about $100 now, which I think is the lowest it's going to be for a long time, but that's my base rate. I can do whatever I want to during my for workday making these video classes, and it comes out to about ah, $100 an hour. So therefore, I figured to serve a client, I would need at least 50% Mawr. Then I was already getting on my own. And then my thought is, I want the clients to set my hourly rate. So what I'll do if I client is willing to pound in 49 an hour? The next clients got to pay a little bit more, and the client after that has to pay a little bit more and decline after that has to pay a little bit more. So the last client hired me for $274 an hour through my patri on page. So what I do now is I just increase by 10%. I increased it to 22 99 a month for a round number, and now when I dio, I simply increase my rate 10% every time someone hires me. So when the client hires at $299 an hour, then my rate for the client after that will be 10% higher, which would be about 330 something dollars an hour roughly. And then I don't need a whole bunch of clients in order to get up to a crazy hourly rate. And I'm willing to not take any clients at all. If no one wants to pay my hourly rate and then I charge a premium, I charge even Mawr if you just want a one time purchase through my website, for example, the last client hired me for $274 a month on Patron and has now paid 800 some dollars for the time you can see there's three people are already on my hourly client once a month. So then, if you want to just do a one time order. If you just want a one hour cone, you don't want to commit to every month. Then I put that up even higher on my website. So I've got a system now that I'm extremely happy with for the first time ever, because if I don't get any clients, that's fine. And if I do get a client, I'm going to do a really good job for them. And at the same time, as a part of my questions, I do not offer any outsourcing. So if you pay me 300 something dollars an hour, I actually do all the work. No one else is going to be doing the work for 10 or 20 or $30 an hour. I will do everything. Now, if you want me as a part of your work toe, hire someone and then you have to pay them directly. I'm not going to pay anyone else. So I've got a really simple system now that makes things extremely helpful. So I'm grateful for the chance I actually see. I need to add this on my question page here. So I'm grateful I have a new system for providing services that I think will work for just about anyone. Especially if you're on this four hour work week or excuse me for your work day, An impromptu pitch for Tim Ferris's book. Ah, yeah. Then I think that this will be extremely helpful for you because you could set your hourly rate, whatever you wanted. If you wanted, you could started at five or $10 an hour and then just increase it. Every time a client hires you, put it up 10%. You go $10 an hour. The next client hires you for 11. The next line has to pay 12 something. And then very soon you're up to 2030 $4100 an hour. And all you have to do is do a really good job for the clients. Every client that comes along. So I've already been hired by hundreds of clients. I've messed it up hundreds of times, and I'm really happy. This is a system I think I can use indefinitely. And then, as every person that hires me allows me to charge even more. So I think someday I'll be charging clients 10,000 plus dollars an hour using this system, and at no point will I ever have to raise it more than 10% to get up there now. Sure, that may take a decade. I'm fine. If it takes a decade for me to get to $10,000 an hour, that's fine. I have a system in place to do it and to prove that I'm worth it. So I think with the four hour work day, it's critical to have a good system for serving clients in place so that if you don't have clients, you can afford to just make things like videos to attract clients. You can make things like products to sell the people that you can use your time wisely in that four hours a day, instead of having the temptation to charge a client less. Then you are happy to work at and then having the temptation work 68 10 hour days to serve a client for me. When I charge for 25 hours of work, then I know that clients a priority and I'll move my work out of the way for it. Then I'm not tempted to do 10 or 15 hours of work on a client every day I established from the beginning with a client. Look, I'll do a couple hours of work on your project every day because I have a four hour work day and I'll dedicate a part of that to your time every day.
