1. Running a Coaching Business: next will be discussing what you do and what you don't need In order to run a successful coaching business. Let's start off with some very good news. This is by far the simplest, cheapest and easiest time in history to run a successful coaching business in this modern Internet age. You can now do without a lot of the hassle and expenses of running a small business that would definite hurdles in the past for an aspiring entrepreneur. 2. What You Don't Need To Run A Coaching Business: So let's start off by talking about things that you don't need to run a coaching business. First of all, depending on where you are in the world, you generally don't need any sort of professional registration to be a life coach. Of course, organizations that offer certification programs in life coaching are incentivized to make you think that they're very often expensive. Courses are an absolute requirement, but be sure to confirm this before laying your hard earned cash down on something that you never needed to do in the first place. Why is membership to a professional body and some type of board certification not required ? Simply because the title life coach is not a legally protected one? Anyone can call themselves a life coach. It's a little bit like the difference between a dietitian and nutritionist. One is a protected title, and the other is not. Life coaches are not psychologists or in another type of protected professional. In fact, there are no special requirements to be a life coach in terms of qualification. Even if you have nothing but the most basic of schooling, it doesn't matter as long as you have the right attitude, personality and a thorough understanding off life coaching theory. You can be a life coach. The second thing you don't need is an assistant or partner. Well, at least at first anyway, If you're worried about having to do both the administration and the actual coaching, then you can rest assured that modern technology means you can easily manage your time and budget without having to pay someone a salary in order to do it. Modern accounting software for small businesses is also easier to use than ever, and you'll probably have no need to pay an accountant ever. You will, however, need a tax professional to help you calculate and file taxes in your region. Unless you happen to be a trained tax expert, this is one area you should not try to navigate by yourself. 3. What You Do Need To Run A Coaching Business: Now let's take a look at the things that you're going to need to run a successful coaching business. Apart from the specific coaching knowledge you are gaining from this course and your continued reading on the subject, you'll also need a firm grasp of modern digital technology. Much of what makes the modern small business or soul consultancy possible is supported by computer technology. So you should know how to, for example, run a company page on Facebook or how Twitter works. In terms of capital outlay, you obviously need to have a place to work on and a place to see your clients. Now those two places needing to be the same, you can work from home, or you can work while on the road. There is no correct set of technological tools, your need, but in general, a notebook or desktop computer or a good tablet computer will be enough, coupled with an Internet connection that's can handle video calling without any interruption as to a consultation space. If you really feel that you need to rent or create a space that people can come and see you , then that's up to you. However, most clients will appreciate it if you can see them in an environment where they feel comfortable, so seeing them at their homes or places of work for an initial interview is very viable. The group coaching sessions It's obvious that this is also a good idea. What we discuss it a little later in the course. It's also now possible lost only to keep updates of I things like email and Skype. But to complete the entire coaching process without ever physically meeting your client. Finally, the most important thing you need in order to run a successful coaching business is a plan you need to know what you want to achieve, and by when. The very coaching principles that you are learning to apply to the life goals of others are justice good for formulating short, medium and long term goals for your business. In the additional resources, you will find a handy checklist that expands on needed resources to run your own coaching practice. You can use this to judge whether your consultancy is adequately prepared. In the next lecture, we'll discuss how once you've established your business, you can actually get paying clients coming through your door 4. Strategising Your Marketing: The next important step is to strategize your marketing. There's little worth in taking a scattershot approach to selling your services. You need to make sure that any time and money that you invest in marketing has the best chance of paying off. In practical terms, this means putting up advertising in places that people who are most likely to want your help. We'll see it. Traditionally, you might put up flyers on college campuses, and gyms are sewn These days. You have more options that can reach more people. Often there are support or interest groups on sites like Facebook, where people congregate because they all have the same problem. However, if you are crass about your marketing, you will very quickly be ejected from these places. But if you play a long game and actually contribute meaningfully, it's maybe possible to gain trust and eventually business from these Facebook groups. Never underestimate the power that word of mouth marketing has. If you help out a few people in these groups in a good way, your name is shortest spread 5. How Can I Source Business : in this lecture will discuss the various ways in which you can source business for your coaching practice. It's all good and well to have everything ready for your first client. But if that's kind doesn't know that you even exist and furthermore, has no reason to come to you, even if they were aware of you. Nondefense will really master in the end. Therefore, one of the most important things that you need to learn is how to market your services to the outside. Well, first, let's talk about what exactly it is you're be advertising. While you may think that your marketing life coaching, that's not something the average person on the street wants to buy. As a life coach, you're selling solutions to problems that people have. Or it least that's how you can best market it focus on common problems that people have. Being unable to stick to a diet or exercise regime is a good one. Having a hard time shaking a bad habit is another. Tell people about what you could do for them rather than telling them what you can do is a hole. So is a practical example. You would choose common life coaching issues on market around those. These include things such a sticking to a diet or getting a promotion. People also commonly have issues with their creative pursuits, such as writing or visual arts. Any area of life that requires or benefits from good planning, time management and goal setting can be targeted as an area to market your coaching in the best scenario is one where you can find a niche that others in the life coaching industry have not yet realized exists. This scratch you the opportunity to build a brand associate ID with that particular niche, which can pay off big time in the roll on. 6. Content Marketing: In this Internet age, you also have to know about something known as content marketing content. Marketing is actually a very simple concept. The idea is that you create content that people will actually want to read, watch or listen to. Although you don't charge anything for the content itself, you can then use it as a way to refer people to your business. Good content marketing has become a primary way to draw business, build a brand and build a reputation. So as a life coach, what can you do as a form of content marketing? Typical strategies include starting a Facebook page for your business and then posting content from your block site or YouTube account there. Incidentally, by monetizing your blawg and YouTube channel, you can directly on an income from your marketing as well. But there is no guarantee that this will be worthwhile. Still, if any of your content pieces become very popular in their own right, you'll want TEM toe have bean monetized on the outset. If the content you create is valuable to people in its own right, you can also make it possible for people to support that content creation using patronage sites such as patron 7. Good Old Fashioned Networking: although your core business and income will likely be from clients or groups who pay you to appear, speak and coach, you should always have the attitude that your income should be diversified. Find a many revenue streams as possible and build as much passive income as you can be. Vocal on Social media Make sure you write or record things that are relevant and actually useful and work to establish your credibility. All of this being said, there is still no substitute for good old fashioned networking. Networking is a term that refers to making sure you meet the right people. It could be a manager at a company or a person who is influential and that others listen to . You can network through sites like Linked In or Twitter, but it is also important to meet people who can one day be of benefit to your business. Face to face. It's difficult for someone to decline an email from you after they've met you face to face . After all, in the supplementary material for this lecture, you'll find some resource is aimed at helping you clarify your marketing strategy. This will be good to use as the basis for your marketing plan. In the next lecture will be discussing professional consultation skills 8. Professional Consultation Skills: in this sector will be looking at professional consultation skills. While the process of coaching prescribes certain ways of communicating with your clients, there is another conversational art that you will have to get to grips with while running your business. And these are what's known as professional consultation skills. This is mainly applicable to when you are having a non coaching communication with a person who is not to be the object of your coaching efforts. For example, this could be a human resources manager or school principal that may want you to provide group or one on one sessions with others. There is also pre coaching conversation that happens with direct clients as well. Essentially, your task is to make your perspective crimes. Andi Existing pain kinds understand what exactly the nature of your relationship will be. What the terms of the work are any estimated time frames as well as costs, etcetera. This is the business part of the coaching game, where you must make agreements before the actual coaching begins. The core skill is active listening. This doesn't mean merely hearing what's the other person says, but actually paying close attention to it and actively thinking about it with your consultants Hat on. You are primarily a problem solver. You're trying to read between the lines off what your perspective clients is saying and estimating what you can rightly do for them. This is also where you're meant to spot further opportunities as long as you listen well. Think before you speak, deal honestly and communicate clearly. You'll do just fine. 9. How Much Should I Charge : one major mistake people new to the business of directly selling their own services often make is to undervalue their own worth. Before you enter talks for work with anyone, make sure that you know what's the going rate is for coaching services in your area. Finding this information is a simple is picking up the phone or sending an email to your competitors and asking for a quotation or an indication off their fees? Of course, this goes without saying that you'll need to approach this as if you are a potential client making enquiries. If you have a solid idea of where you can price yourself at, you can confidence Lee give a perspective kind a per session price. Now, generally speaking, a coaching session will be an hour long, but there may be clients who wish to have a double session. Typically, this is offered at a slightly cheaper rate than the equivalent off two times your hourly rate. For example, if you decide that your rate is going to be $70 per hour long session, you could offer a double session as $120 extending a $20 discount to your client This can also be a great way to up sell your services. Although you may be both in a hurry to do paid work and to start coaching, you shouldn't render any services until you have nailed down the terms and conditions of your contract. You need to ensure that your perspective kind has no misunderstanding off what it is that they will be getting from you and what you can and cannot guarantee in terms off their results. I've included a blank contract for you to use in the downloadable section of this lecture. It's a fairly standard contract, which you can use in its entirety, or you're welcome to modify it according to your client's needs. 10. 21st Century Coaching: next, we're going to be discussing how to coach someone using only the Internet. Modern Internet technology has brought us a lots of useful on do not so useful stuff among these. One of the best examples is probably the ability to communicate cheaply and easily with anyone anywhere in the world. This is not just limited to sending other text based messages, but also includes high quality face to face video communication. Technological advances means that we can really feel as if the other person is truly in the room with us. In other words, successfully coaching someone using Internet communication methods is completely feasible. Andi will become even better in the near future. Good examples of thes are services such a Skype and Google hangouts. Both of these tools also allow you to address a group of people, so group coaching sessions are also very possible to deliver. Whilst using these mediums during actual coaching sessions, you'll want to make things as easy on yourself as possible. Depending on your client's equipment and situation, you should try to have as much of their body in view as is reasonable. The idea here is that you should be able to see their body language Clearly, it's also of paramount importance that you have good quality audio, since few things put strain on a person's patients like bad audio, you should have a decent condenser mic or well regarded headset mic to ensure that you are clearly and warmly heard. This also applies to your Internet connection. Make sure that your connection is fast enough so that it can handle the type of communication you intend to use apart from live sessions with your client. It's also a good idea to include email support, which you can attend to as you have a chance. This is a value add to your service that's generally very well received by clients. It's a good idea to create a mailbox and address specifically for this purpose, since you don't want crying consultation emails getting mixed up with everything else now, while communicating through email or even through video conferencing, it's more important than ever to make sure that you're clearly understood, Andi, that you can clearly understand your client. Remember that current Elektronik communication robs us of almost all nonverbal communication, so you have to make up for it with precise and effective language skills. The clean language mythology that we've used earlier in the course can be helpful here, but ultimately you're the one that has to ensure that's miscommunication is avoided. 11. Coaching International Clients: If you're planning on offering coaching to international clients, you're also have to keep time zone differences in mind. Sometimes your regions just won't have any mutual times that will work for you and a potential client. It will most likely be necessary to exclude certain time zones if this becomes a problem, since it will do you no good to be too tired or artificially jetlag to coach properly. The most important thing, however, is learning to respect your own time. The cause. Internet communication is so convenient, it's may be tempting to answer emails immediately, always being ready to jump on Skype when a crime needs you or to try and to coach someone while doing something else. Like driving or even joking. This is bad for everybody. Make sure you denotes times when you'll answer emails, shed you'll your live chat sessions and coach in a comfortable environment where you can give your full attention to the person that your coaching. Thanks to the Internet, you can now work anywhere with anyone at any time. That is a marvelous opportunities heat, but it can also bring on the temptation to work all the time or to hurt your own quality of life in some way. Of course, the regular rigors of working for yourself can do the same as well. In the next election will be discussing work and life balance as a coach and how you can go about growing your business without hurting other aspects of your life. 12. All Work And No Play: in this lecture will be looking at the work life balance in your career as an independent, professional life coach. When we do the average salary job, we often don't have that much to worry about separating work and playtime. We're told when it's time to work and when it's time to go home. Although some employers do make us work more than we should, you're rarely bean doubt about what is work and what is personal and private time. When you work for yourself, however, it is a much more ambiguous situation. You set your own schedule, you're the one that determines your working hours, and you're the one that decides when and how you get rest. The ironic thing is that most people think that's being self employed means they will work shorter hours. Andi have more leisure time. The truth is actually the opposite. People who work for themselves generally work harder and with less sympathy than even the worst boss. Not giving ourselves the same sort of empathy we would give to others is actually pretty common in all sorts of areas of life. We often hold ourselves to higher standards than we do others and are less forgiving towards ourselves as well. The final incentive to overwork ourselves comes down to money. When you work for a salary, you get paid the same every month. Overtime is, of course, a consideration, But most companies avoid overtime like the plague on, and we'll rather higher on more people if it becomes too regular a thing when you work for yourself. There is a direct correlation between how much you work on how much you get paid, especially if you charge by the hour. So the temptation is always there to put in just a few more hours to make a few extra box. Having more money is, of course, no small thing, but you have to ask yourself whether the extra income is worth the cost to other areas of your life. People with poor work, life balance, develop stress related health problems. I don't exercise enough and half struggling relationships. The list literally goes on a lot of the damage you can do to your personal life and health is essentially irreversible, so you really have to find a way to accomplish your career goals while still managing your life. Of course, at times we have to make sacrifices for things that are kiv it'll or important. But over the long term, you have to reserve some love for yourself. 13. Staying Healthy: One of the worst issues related to overwork is the dreaded condition known as burnout. What exactly is burnout? Well, it's a state of chronic stress with some pretty nasty consequences. It can include physical on demotion, ALS, exhaustion, cynicism and detachment and feelings off ineffectiveness and lack of accomplishment. When you have burnout, you essentially become useless in both your private and professional life. Any gangs you think you may have made by overworking yourself will be easily reversed by burnout and more. Your body and mind only have so much to give before demanding repayment. There is no way to get around it. When you have burnout, you may experience constant fatigue and inability to sleep. Poor concentration, forgetfulness. They experience feeling sickles, time, anxiety, depression and a whole lot more. It's important to get help with burnout and to be vigilant for its signs. But an out of prevention, as they say, is better than a pound of kill. So how can you stop burnout? Try starting your day with a relaxing ritual, perhaps meditation, stretching, reading, etcetera, obviously healthy eating, exercise and good quality of sleep. I learned to say no and stick to your personal boundaries. Make sure you set aside time away from computers, e mails and phones, and, lastly, learned some stress management techniques. As with every other aspect of a business, time and resource management are the key here. Don't just pencil in working times in your calendar. Penciling leisure time, too. Make appointments with yourself where you go and see a movie. Make time for your hobbies. Andi have really holidays if you can. Twice a year Ah, holiday can be from home at no cost to in the long run your profit far more from a balanced approach to your work and life than from constantly being in crunch mode. You'll also be happier on a short term basis and in the end, which is more important. 14. Life Coaching Conclusion: well done. You've made it all the way through this comprehensive life coaching course. It's packed with a lot of information. Andi. Although you've worked through the material, it is likely that it will take some time to process everything. And you should refer back to the course material or extend your reading when these questions come up. The models that we've discussed and demonstrated in the course are all tried and tested coaching methodologies and will serve you well for the future. I remember being a life coach. Also, Ming's being a life long learner. No matter how good you may become, you will never reach a point where you can say, I can learn no more. This is not something to be seen as a negative thing, though the journey itself is more often much more satisfying than reaching the destination in your career as a professional life coach, you will also be in many positions where you can learn something from the people that you coach. If you're open to learning experiences from anywhere Andi in any form you'll find that drive is filled with such opportunities learning which of thes are better to defer or to embrace is a skill that can only come from practice. The best that we can do is to be as mentally prepared as possible, but the future really is infinite improbabilities. Completing this course is just the start of your journey. As a professional life coach, you'll be tempted to join lots of professional bodies on part ways with your hard earned cash for the privilege. But be where I'm saying this from experience. Just being registered with a so called professional coaching association doesn't have any real weight, even if you're convinced that it does. Andi, it certainly doesn't afford you any special advantages. Being a great life coach is only partly about knowledge and skills. For the most part, it is a certain attitude and energy towards life that makes it possible to engender a fundamental change in the lives of others. That is to say, the content of this course is crucial to your success as a life coach, but you'll need to have the right mentality to become really, really good. Is everyone boom with this? Well, of course not. But if you really want to pursue this path, then you can develop this outlook through diligence and tenacity, and you will be a hugely successful professional life cake. I wish you the best of luck in your coaching career and thank you for joining me on this schools.
