1. Intro : Have you been thinking about starting something new? Maybe learning to watercolor or draw, maybe that YouTube channel or podcast. You've been thinking about it, but you haven't been doing it? Do you think? Yeah, but I don't have a time. Yeah, but I don't have the money. Oh, but I don't have the talent. Do you think you should feel like this? When really you feel like this? I'm Bridget young, line a hand. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts and theater performance. I have been a dentist for 25 years. I'm a wife, a mother. Recently I've become a YouTuber and podcaster. But for 40 years I've studied personal transformation. And in this class I can show you how to take that, yes, but thinking and turn it into so what thinking. By using my short but effective, creative courage cultivator, you'll identify the project you most want to do first, and I'll show you how to get started. Join this class. And you will start creating your dream by getting those ideas out of your head and into your life. And you'll go from feeling like this to feeling like this. Because all you really have to do is start. 2. Getting Started: Hi, I'm Bridget young, line a hand and I want to go over why I created this class and who's, who is it for really? It's definitely a beginner class. But it's for anybody who wants to start a creative pursuit or wants to make a change, you may approve be a professional on one area of your life, but you want to do something new so you feel like a complete to be in this other area. These techniques can help you in many areas, not just as a hobbyist or a freelancer, but even in your social life, we all have that voice in our head that every time you think, Oh, I want to do something outside my comfort zone, that voice that comes in and says No, no, no. Well, this is going to help you quiet that voice. Also, if you are feeling like you want to do something different, but maybe you don't really know what that is. Or you might have a lot of things that you want to do different. You don't know which where to start. This can help you with that. The project is, I created this little workbook, but they're fun sheets, right? And it's called the creative courage cultivator. We'll work through this together and you can either post this in the project section or you can write a little paragraph about what the insights that you had, what you've learned. And you can post that in the project section because some of this might be a little bit personal and you don't want to share it. And that's okay. You don't have to share everything. But this is going to be for you. We'll work through it together. But really, the insights that you come up with are going to be for you. One of the aspects of this is to find the skill share classes that can help you get started on your new journey. And maybe you can post that in the project section. Why I'm doing this and how I created this worksheet is who? I have been wanting to do something differently. And I'm a dentist, but I also am a creative person. I've been learning how to draw. And the motivation for learning how to draw is because I wrote a children's book about 12 years ago and I wanted to illustrate it myself. But I'm not illustrator, am I? Drawing ability was very, very basic. So I set out on this journey to learn how to draw better in order to illustrate my own book. Well, it's taking me on all different side roads and I've met many people. I've had great opportunities to take classes with people like Tom Bancroft, Tony band cross, Stephen Silver, as well as local artists that I've taken classes from. And I've learned so much and I have enjoyed this whole pursuits so much. But it was really all just kinda internal. It was just me in my notebooks and my drawing books. And my children were like, why don't you start a YouTube channel? And I had been kind of thinking about that, starting a YouTube channel, starting a podcast. I was waiting until I knew what I was doing. And they really encouraged me to just start just do it. And when I did, I realized that I felt so much happier, you know, just getting going. And yeah, I didn't really know how to do it, but I learned how to do the things that I have done so far on Skillshare. You know, I've taken it one step at a time and I have a YouTube channel and I have a podcast. Now, I do not have a million viewers and I'm not making a million dollars. That's not what this is about. What this is about. He's taking your idea out of your head and getting started on it so that you can see it in your life. And just by getting started, you will feel so much happier about your work and your journey. And you will feel more motivated to keep going and to add to your skill set and just to develop whatever it is that you're wanting to do. By the end of this class, you will be on the road to a new creative life and you will have a feeling of accomplishment and success just by getting started. 3. Project Explained: Okay, So the project for this course is to fill out this creative courage cultivator. And we will work through this together. What this will do is it'll help you find where you want to start first and then how to get started. You can post your answers in the project section, or you can just write your insights down and post those in that project section to help encourage other people and to help solidify what you have found, your aha moments. Okay, I'll see you in the next video. 4. The 3 Nos: Okay, so the biggest thing that stops need when I'm trying to think about starting something new is this really negative voice in my head? And it really boils down to three nos, no time, no money, no talent. Those are the things that haunt me and stop me from doing things. And I think that's probably true for most people. And if it's true for you, keep going with the class because we're going to address every one of these nose in separate videos. So see you in the next video. 5. No Time: So no time, that is a big one for all of us, no time. But when you really think about the things that you've done in your life, you have found the time or made the time for whatever it is that you really wanted or really feel like you had to do. If it if it felt urgent, you made the time for it. So you do have the time. You may have to alter your schedule where it doesn't feel comfortable. You may have to get up earlier or stay up later. You may have to say no to going out and having fun. You may have to say no to watching some of your favorite videos. But you do have the time. You just have to make the TI, you have to make whatever it is that you want to do. Important. And then the time will be there for Yeah. See you in the next video. 6. No Money: Okay, So now we're gonna talk about the no money. Says the second no, no money. Money. Again, as very much like time. We find the money when we want to do something, when we're really motivated, either because we feel like it's really urgent, it's an emergency. We will find the money. Or if we're motivated because it's something that we really want to do, we will find the money. Now, I know money as a sensitive subject. And if you're feeling really a lack of money, start with the most simple, basic way you possibly can try to get started, uh, whatever it is that you want with things that you already have or with just the very lowest cost way of getting going. The big thing here is that you get started. And as you get started, opportunities will arise to either save a little bit of money or jobs will appear that will help you earn that little extra money. I'm not saying that you'll get a big check in the mail just because you want it to arrive. But if you keep your mind, open, your eyes, open, your ears open, you will find opportunities that will help you create extra money. Okay, I'll see you in the next video. 7. No Talent: Okay. This is probably the biggest scariest. No. And that's no talent. This used to be a bigger issue than it is now, you know, a long time ago when there were a lot of gatekeepers, you know, you couldn't publish a book unless you went through a publisher in New York. You couldn't be in a TV show unless you were cast by a Hollywood director. Now, you can create your own television show on YouTube. You can publish your own book. Okay, So the talent thing, you don't have to worry about it the way you used to. You know, we think we would go to someone and say, oh, do I have what it takes to make it? Well, forget that. That person had the power to say, Well, no, you don't, and your dreams were over when you were 16. Now, you can teach yourself by watching videos, by taking Skillshare classes. And you can get better. You start where you are. You work on your talent, whatever that is, you work on your abilities and you can create your own talent by just getting better. Bit by bit. Day after day practicing, it will come fast. It won't come easy. But as you work towards your goal, you will create your own talent. And you'll see your dreams come true. 8. Creative Courage Cultivator: Okay, so here we are. We're going to do this creative courage cultivator together. And the first question as list five possible creative pursuits. So when I was doing this, actually I did probably a lot of this in my head, but I'm going to recreate it by going through this little fun sheet here. And so for me, the first thing I wanted was to draw. I really wanted to improve my ability and drawing. And then the next thing was watercolor. And then after that, because my focus was becoming a children's book illustrator, I wanted to learn the rules of illustration because every profession has its rules. And I wanted to, to dive into that. I was very enticed by the idea of having a YouTube channel. Didn't know really what I wanted to do with it, but I did want to do YouTube and I wanted to podcast. So those are my five things. After thinking about it, where would I start? What I want you to think about? What are, what are the two out of these five? What are the two that most excite you when you read down, when you look at them, feel what is happening in your body. You know. Which one or or two makes you feel more excited like if somewhere just one were to say, okay, I've got the perfect course for you that will teach you everything you need to know for blank. What makes you the most excited to take that course. So for me, I really wanted to learn how to draw. That was my big thing. And more specifically probably characters, draw characters. So for me it was drawing. And then the next thing for me was to watercolor because I wanted to know how to color these characters. And those were the two things that I was most excited about. First. Okay, So now find five Skillshare classes about your top two interests. Okay, So I went into Skillshare and I was looking at what would you take if you wanted to. Character design, draw it, learn how to draw characters. And so I've found one that's dancing characters, drawing energetic and dynamic poses. So dancing characters. And another one was given motion to your characters drawing expressions. Another one is figure and character drawing. And the great thing about Skillshare classes is that you can just, you know, go through many of old and get everybody's ideas of how to do it. Now I'm looking up watercolor classes. And there's watercolor basics. Anyone can watercolor, and that sounds good. Okay, so that is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Choose 1 interest and list its first five steps. So probably if I were to boil things down to their most basic in order to learn how to illustrate. I feel like that learning how to draw is the most basic thing, okay? So drawing is going to take my attention first. And now, what is my first step? Well, my first five steps. First of all, I'm going to make sure I have a pencil, maybe a pen. And I'm going to get sin, I must say in paper. And then I'm going to get some instruction and find out when am I going to do it. Time. Time to practice. And then what is the first thing I'm gonna do to practice? So like for character design, learning how to draw heads, learning how to draw circles, learning how to draw basic shapes. That's the first step in learning how to draw, is just learning how to draw these basic shapes and getting to where you could just do it. Okay, so that's what I mean about boiling things down to their most basic. Basic. Basic. Okay. Moving on. Okay. So which step will you take first? Okay, so I'm going to focus on the drawing, learning how to draw, because that's the most basic in character design or illustrating as you've gotta be able to draw, right? And so with the drawing, I'm going to get my pens and pencils lined up on with my paper. I'm going to take a lesson. And I'm going to make time for that lesson. Okay, so the next thing is, now you'll help. You'll have to do this step and then come back to the next one. But describe how you feel after taking that step. What's your next step? So definitely I felt empowered. And I really felt like I was getting out of my head, taking the ideas out of my head and seeing it materialized in my life. So I felt that I was making my dream a reality. That it wasn't just a wish anymore. It was becoming real. And then the next step would be practiced more. Make it a daily habit, take more lessons, and move onto watercolor. So so I hope this helped with you focusing what it is that you wanted to do. And you may just want to put this last part in the project category, but I really do want to see what it is that you've come up with. And any reality, realizations or inspiration that you've gained. Anything that you've come up with that you find interesting post about it so that we can celebrate with you. 9. Final Thoughts: I hope you found this class useful. I want to encourage you to whatever it is that you've been thinking about, whatever you decided that you're going to get going on to really truly get started. Don't worry about the end result. Just focus on getting started and getting better. Just what is the next step? Every time you feel like you've gone backwards, just think, what's the next thing I need to do? Just keep moving forward. And as you move forward, you will get closer and closer to where you want to be. You can get there. You will get there. It may not be easy. It may not be fast, but it will happen. I know it will happen. Just keep going.
