1. Tags and Categories Introduction: Hello and welcome to this class, which is all about finding the right category for your classes and optimizing the tags for them as well. So a very warm welcome to this class. Thank you for enrolling. My name is John Colley under six minutes. Strategist. I'm an experienced online course creator, and I've got over 33,000 students in my courses in different platforms in over 175 countries ever actually, at the moment, in exactly 175 countries. Now, this course is all about optimizing the category for your course so that your Catholic your courses in absolutely the best place it possibly can be on the sculpture platform. It's also about finding the best tanks for your course because these are really important to help the skill share algorithm to rank your course correctly. Now the benefits of this course is very simple. It's to make your course easier to find for students on to make your course rank better in the skill share algorithm. Now, who is this course for? Well, it's for any skill share instructor who wants their class to do better in school share. It's that simple on the course project for the course is very simple to it's simply optimize your category, find the right category for, of course, and then identify the five best tags that you could possibly include that are relevant to your course. That will help you, of course, do better on the school share platform, so download the spreadsheets provided in the project area. I made this course because I couldn't work out for myself, which were the best Kaka tags on, which was the best category for my courses. So I have actually used this myself, and I will show you that in due course in the project area. So do share your projects or screenshots and your tips with other students in the project gallery. Great to hear from you. Also, remember, I'm here to help, so definitely reach out to me if you've got any questions or queries. So again, congratulations for enrolling in the course. Great to have you here. Let's get started. Let's find your category and your tags on. Let's make the best of your courses on Scotia. It's great to have you here. I hope you enjoy the course 2. How to Find a Category and A Tag Step 1: in this video, I'm going to explain to you the first step in selecting your tag and your category, and what we need to do is to go to the spreadsheet that I provided in the projects that you'll be able download, which is called Step One. And the whole idea is that you look at what other instructors have bean using for their tags, so that you can, in effect, brainstorm from their experience to find tags which are relevant to your cause. Now I've done the analysis on my database off skill share. Andi, I've identified 4168 tags off, which you can use five or six, they say five In the instructions. I've seen people with six tags, but where it is, that's an awful lot of tanks to eliminate. So the key question, then is How do you find the right one? Well, when I suggest you do is, you identify the few keywords which are most relevant to your course. Now I've got a couple of courses and examples I'm going to show you, but I have a course about Webinars, and I've got a course about my skill share directory. I'm going to look for the right keywords and then actually going to change them as a project as well at the end of this. So I'm gonna use those keywords, skill share and webinar to try to identify the best keywords on doing that by having a look at what what other instructors have chosen. But you must make sure that the keywords are relevant to your course. This is not a way toe hack skill share. It's a way to find the best keywords and category for your course. So you choose your keywords as serve taken webinar and I've taken skill share on. Then what you do is you go into the spreadsheet and you select the drop down filter and go to contains and you put in the key word that you've chosen on then see in the keywords list , which shows you in one column all the keywords used by other people and you then go through them and just select out the ones which are most relevant to you. And that may take a little time, but you're basically going to be looking at a very, very small subset off potential keywords rather than at over 4000. Unsorted on while you're at it, you could look down the right hand column and look in the categories and see which are the most relevant categories for your course. Based on that course. Keyword on this make the hors category selection, which I found initially quite difficult, and it may be very obvious in some respects, but you can double check and make sure you get your categories right. So the spreadsheet, which is the step one stretch it, will be available in the course project. But now I'm gonna take you over, and I'm going to actually show you how to do it in Excel. Okay, here we are. This is the skill share courses. Step one spreadsheet. As you can see, it's got four simple columns to it. It's got the title of the course in column A. It's got to the instructor, which I thought would be helpful in column B. You've got that all the tags that course uses in column C and you've got the category in Cotton Column D. So what you need to do is go to, um, the column, a title and where it says choose one actually go down and putting contains and I'm going to start with Webinar. So I put in Webinar and it now filters and shows just those courses which have got Webinar in the title. And I can go along and look now and pick out from column C, the ones that are most relevant. And I also noticed that the webinar courses are in the business categories that confirms I need to put this course in the business category. So if I look at what I've selected and I actually have done this before we started, I've got business online marketing. Forgive me. I'm reading from the list, I pre wrote, but you'll see them on the screen presentation or presentations. Public speaking. I've got a social learning, entrepreneurship, marketing, social media, money, business, development, sales and, of course, the world women are. So if I repeat this, I can actually, if I want to test it in double check, I can actually go into the the Tags column as well. And if I put in webinar in there, then here we go. I get an even clearer list and I can see on my Web how to sell Maybe that's a good one to include. Some have that to my list on about public speaking, speaking social learnings. And they're nothing much new. They're fine. Let's do this again. I'm gonna clear that. Let's do this again for the skill share word itself. Because I've got a course, which is my skill share directory. So I go to contains put in skill share. Best return on. I get a slightly longer list, but you can see it's only about 20 courses and I can go through this now. I've picked out skill share business, make money teaching productivity tutorial on trending on. Let me double check that against the Call him. Um, see some, but contains skill share turn and I have a quick look down here. Um, there's money. That's passive income. That might be a good one. Um, that because I'm really looking forwards which are going to be relevant to my skill shared directories have to keep that in mind. And if it may be passive income is not development. One for my school shed director for across that out productivity I've already got. So you can see from this I've now got different things and I can also see that most off those courses are also in the business category. So that confirmed that both of my courses need to be in the business country. Now, I've got a list off potential. Keep potential tags on. You'll see in the next video how we're going to decide which of the most relevant for off those to bring in. So that is the end off step one. And I've now got a confirmation on the the category, which is dead easy. The tanks always been going to be much more difficult. But I've now got a short list of tanks and I need to work out, which is going to be the best tag for me. And I'm gonna show you how to do that in the next step. So I hope you found that helpful in the project. You're gonna be doing this for yourself and you'll see the results that I get when I've produced my my own little exercise. But I'll do that in the projects. I'll see you now in the next video 4.
