1. Simplify your Life Intro: Simplify your Life Instructed by Charlene Rossiter Welcome. Simplifying can be defined as the process of eliminating extra items or actions in your life that do not contribute to the happiness of your life. Clutter and overscheduling. Our time is at an all time high. Never in the course of human existence have lives been so full of material goods and obligations. Time should be considered the most valued resource in society stresses an epidemic in our society today, feelings of being overwhelmed and having too much on their plates is a major trigger for stress. Creating more physical, mental and emotional space in your life is beneficial for your well being and health. This could be achieved by simplifying your environment and your time Living. A more simple life with less stuff is very calming. Purging feels like a huge weight has been lifted from your shoulders, living a less busy life with more time to breathe. Think in engage in activities that you enjoy doing is the end goal of this course. I will walk you through step by step, simplifying for all aspects of your life. I will teach you easy methods to de clutter and how to implement mindfulness in the area of future consumerism. How clutter affects your energy. Every item you own in every commitment you make takes up some of your energy with items. The energy you put into it can be in regards to caring for the item cleaning the item, the item requiring some degree of work or follow up, or just simply having the item in your site every day. Commitments take your energy because they require either your time, inattention or both. Having too much or doing too much of anything can feel like brain dream, leaving you unmotivated and feeling tired. Cleaning up in clearing your physical, mental and emotional environments can evoke feelings of being free and relaxed, focusing on priorities. Think of the last item you purchased. Now think of the last fund experience you had. What thought made you feel happier, likely felt happier when you were thinking of the fun experience. That is because having time and money to enjoy life experiences is far more satisfying than spending money on a material item that now requires a piece of your energy maintaining, storing and cleaning. Make a list of what you prioritize in life the most. Think of what makes you happy and write it down. Now look at where material goods and obligations are on the list. I bet they're very low on the list, if at all. This list will help to motivate you through this process of simplifying course objectives. Examine each aspect of your life with easy, step by step instructions, simplified each area of your life and purged the items that are not required for your happiness. Create a mindset that will help move forward with your new, simpler lifestyle with ease. Clarify your priorities in life. So there's no further confusion on what to focus on going forward. A better understanding of what is possible when you simplify your life. Now let's get started. 2. Emotional Clutter: emotional clutter. What is emotional clutter? Emotional clutter consists of negative thoughts, feelings or decisions that replay over and over again. In our minds, this emotional clutter can prevent you from enjoying your daily life, and it can make it difficult to be in the present moment. Emotional cutter can also consist of negative feelings you have towards your work, friends or loved ones. This could be feelings of presentment or hurt. Emotional clutter can result from surrounding yourself with toxic people that do not bring joy to your life, but rather they create negative emotions within you. The following are steps that you can take to reduce your emotional clutter and live a more carefree life. Write it out Most of the time. Emotional clutter can go on in your head without your knowledge. It is emotions that are stored in your subconscious, and you really have to bring them into your conscience in orderto address them and healed them. This is where the working clearing your emotional clutter comes in. Do this exercise for a week. Number one. Create a journal that is easy to carry around with you for a week. It could be a memo app in your phone or a paper notebook. Number two. During this week, every hour. Stop what you're doing and right then, the feelings and thoughts that are going through your mind in that moment. And what thoughts and feelings you can recall for the last hour. Letting go. Now that you have a journal for the week of your thoughts and feelings, it is time to analyze what exactly is going through your mind on a daily basis. You will find that there's a lot of re occurring emotions happening. If there are thoughts related to past decisions, you have to acknowledge them and make a conscious decision to let the past be in the past. Ask yourself. This is something that I can change. If it is not, you need to decide to let it go. This is the only way to relieve yourself from emotional clutter. The same goes for feelings related to past experiences, acknowledged um, and decide that you're going to let it go. Remind yourself every time you catch yourself thinking about the past, say to yourself, I'm going to let that go. I am moving forward eventually will train your subconscious that these feelings and thoughts are no longer relevant in your life. Teach people how to treat you in your journal. You will find that you may have negative emotions and thoughts about people in your life. It is inevitable that toxic relationships will work their way into your lives, whether it be co workers, friends or family. If you have friendships that bring you down, you need to end those relationships. It is okay to outgrow certain relationships, and you shouldn't feel guilty for letting these relationships go. Some relationships cannot be ended. Do toe work or family obligations. Thes People need to be taught how to treat you. You need to tell people when they make you upset or angry, voice your feelings and don't hold back. Demand respect. And don't let people guilt you into being or doing something that you do not want to dio saying no when necessary. And remember, you are taking care of yourself first before you can give to other people knowing you are enough, do not compare yourself to others. This is a common mistake that we all make. There will always be someone who seems to have more than you while it is healthy to push yourself forward in life. Comparing yourself to others is counterproductive. Get in the habit of wishing others well and focusing only on your own strengths, achievements and goals. Prioritize yourself and then look after others. Always put yourself first. You can only give others what you have given yourself. If you do not feel good, then there will be little that you can do for your loved ones. Take the time to acknowledge your feelings in hell. Your emotions. This investment in yourself is important to move forward in life with minimal emotional clutter holding you down self reflection. You may find you have negative emotions about your current life situation, whether it be your career relationship or living conditions. To clear this emotional clutter, you will need to self reflect on your decisions up until this point that got you to where you are. Now decide where you want to be in one year, five years in 10 years, then make an action plan to get you there. List all the things that you need to do to get where you want to be, deciding on what makes you happy and how to get there will give you the hope and direction for the future. This exercise alone could do wonders in relieving negative emotions about your current situation moving forward. Now that you have brought your thoughts and feelings to your conscience, mind and sorted through them. Make plans for changes and decided how you will be treated by people in the future, it is time to move forward. Moving forward means being confident in yourself, having control of your emotions, making the necessary decisions in planning for your ideal future life. Moving forward means leaving what happened in the past in the past and reminding yourself toe let go. Use the journaling exercise whenever you feel you need a reset on your emotional clutter. This can be a useful tool throughout your simpler life. 3. Simplify Your Home: simplify your home. Simplifying your home clutter creates chaos in the home and mind looking at a space that is jam packed, full of furniture, knickknacks, clothing, books and more can make you feel overwhelmed. It feels like you're never finished cleaning and tidying, and it consumes a lot of your time to maintain that clutter. When a space has minimal items and only items that you need, you feel later in organized. There is less time spent on tidying up because everything has its place and it just makes sense. Your home should promote feelings of calm and relax ation. It is where we go toe unwind from our busy lives, and it should not feel like another chore on our lists. This section will guide you through the simple steps of making your home minimal and simple for each item you purge, most of it can be donated, sold and recycled. If it is in bad condition and none of those three options work, then dispose of it into the garbage. This should be the last resort since our landfills are already too full. There are even people who will take what you consider garbage, an up cycle it into new items. Always exhaust any option before choosing to throw your items in the garbage. Purging your items will help you to create a new mindset about consumerism and make you think twice before buying that new item and bringing into your clean and organized home steps to a simpler home. Step number one clear and clean all surface areas. The first area of your home that you need to work on is the surface areas. All the visible countertops shelves tables in dressers. Grab a blanket in place. A blanket on the floor, clear a surface area. Everything on the surface area goes on the blanket. Nothing leaves the blanket until it has been decided to either. Keep the item donates. Sell the item, recycle the item or dispose of the item. This is your purging blanket, and it will follow you throughout your home. For this project, create the five piles of cell, keep recycle, donate and disposed Onley work on one surface at a time and do not move onto the next until you are done. The whole process for that one area step number two. Empty those drawers. Your next step is to tackle all the doors in your home completely empty, one draw at a time and put everything on the purging blanket, Then complete the process. Once you're done with the five piles and there's no longer any items on the blanket, put whatever is in your key pile back in the drawer. For now, after the whole house has been purged, you can go back and organize the drawers by grouping like items together in the correct rooms of your house. So it all makes sense. Step number three closets and shelves. Your next undertaking will be all the shelves in closets in your home. This will consist of clothing, shoes, books, etcetera. A couple rules of thumb. When you're purging clothing and shoes is if it doesn't fit now, it probably never will, so don't need it. If you haven't worn it in a year, you likely never will so donate it one shelf at a time, one closet at a time. Use your purging blanket and go through the process. Once one area is complete, put the keep items back in the closet or shelf, and it can be organized by season. Once the entire purge is completed, step number four clear floor space. Your final step is to clear and clean your floors. This step will consist of whatever is on your floor plants, furniture, boxes, etcetera work with one room at a time. If the room is large, divided into two sections to make it more manageable, everything that can fit on your purging blanket will go on it. Everything too big to fit will be addressed last. Once all the small items have been organized into the five piles, Move onto larger pieces. If you don't find comfort in a piece of furniture, remove it. Often. Furniture can be sold online, or you can call your local donation center to see if they want it. Too much furniture in a room can make it feel cluttered and busy. Onley key pieces that you need and enjoy Tips for making your home simple and organized on Li. Buy items for your home that you need and try to remove one item from your home. Each time you bring something new in, keep surface areas clear of clutter and try to use only fresh flowers, lamps and minimal pictures for decoration. Go through and edit your clothes after each season. If you didn't wear an item in the last three months, then donated. Each time you buy a new piece of clothing, donate one from your wardrobe. Buy books that are digital instead of paper. This will prevent clutter and help the environment at the same time. 4. Mental Clutter: mental clutter. What is mental clutter? Mental clutter is simply having too much on your mind having the constant dialogue going on in your brain. This is often hard to turn off, and it is exhausting. Learning how to clear our minds breathe and live mindfully in the present moment is the most important thing you can do for your mental health over scheduled lives with too many obligations is stressful and, quite frankly, not enjoyable. We tend to run on autopilot when our days become to jam packed in and Turner stress levels elevate the feeling of too much to do in too little time concern each day into a battle. Let's go through tips to clear your mental clutter and restore feelings of relaxation and calm slowing down in being present. Stop multitasking. Human beings are not wired to multi task. Forcing this behavior on ourselves creates stress in the body, and mind Onley involving ourselves in one task at a time helps us to be focused in present . The task will likely be done much better and quicker to take regular breaks during your day to just sit and reflect on your thoughts. Emotions in on your schedule for the day. Thes many breaks will help clear your mind and prepare you for what is next. Work on noticing your senses. More sight, sound, smell, touch, taste and gut instinct. So much of our lives is a is on autopilot that we don't take the time to really enjoy our life experiences through our senses. Stop and take the time to notice the information your senses air, giving you in each moment. Stop thinking of the past and stop worrying about the future. Learned to leave the past In the past, there's no changing what has already happened in our lives, but we often become preoccupied with replaying it over and over again in our heads. Try to stop yourself when you get into this pattern of thinking and refocus your thoughts to the present moment. The same goes for constantly planning or worrying over our future lives. Enjoy life today. This is the only way to live with a clear mind. Turn off devices being online and mindlessly scrolling sites is taking in a lot of information in a short amount of time. Give your mind a break and go offline as much as possible. Try to spend more time having conversations with friends and family. Spend your time on activities or hobbies. You enjoy instead, cultivate loving, healthy relationships. Being present in the moment means you're focusing your attention on the people you are around. It means that you're having meaningful moments with friends and family. You're having conversations in person and enjoying life experiences together. Opening up to other people and talking about your feelings and thoughts gives your mind clarity. Holding everything inside and not expressing yourself adds up to a lot of mental clutter. It feels good to get things out in the open and get other people's perspectives. You can then release those thoughts and emotions and move on with life with a clearer mind . Cultivate. Cultivate a loving relationship with yourself to make sure you don't have negative dialogues going through your mind about yourself. Forgive yourself for mistakes and constantly remind yourself for all of your strength, in good qualities. Breathing. Taking the time to notice you're breathing throughout the day is a good way to reset your mind in clear the mental clutter. Notices fear breathing is faster, Slow is it deepen, relaxing or shortened? Anxious in the following slides, I will go through some simple and easy to remember breathing exercises to help bring your breathing into your awareness. The goal is to consistently have deep and relaxed breathing by practicing the exercises regularly throughout the day, and you will train your body to do it without having to think about it. In turn, you will be more centered in calm in each minute as you go about your day. A good time to practice breathing exercises every couple hours during your day and before you go to bed at night. Breathing Exercise number one Daytime breathing exercise Perform this breathing exercise throughout your day to promote feelings of calmness and focus. Number one. Take a deep breath through your nose. Fill your lungs with fresh air number to hold the breath for a count of three. Number three. Exhale through your mouth until you feel all the air has emptied from your lungs. Number four. Repeat 4 to 5 times until you feel your attention is gone and your mind feels relaxed. Breathing Exercise number two Nighttime breathing exercise exercise. Perform this breathing exercise a few times before going to bed. It will help your body relax and have a more rest ful sleep number one. Take a deep breath through your nose for a count of four. Number to hold the breath for a count of seven. Number three. Exhale through your mouth for a count of eight. Repeat this exercise 3 to 4 times until you feel relaxed in your mind is clear. Meditation. Taking a few minutes every day to practice. Meditation can have extraordinary benefits for your mental health. Meditation clears your mind, relaxes your body, lowers your stress levels and creates a feeling of focused energy. Meditation only needs to be a few minutes to be effective, but it could become such a wonderful ritual throughout your day. You will likely want to increase your time for meditation as you progress. Meditation is great opportunity to practice your breathing exercises, keeping your focus solely on your breath. I will walk you through a simple meditation practice to perform throughout your day Meditation exercise. Here's a simple meditation exercise to practise during the day and in the evening before bed. Do it forest, long as you feel comfortable about two minutes at minimum number one. Sit or lie down in a comfortable position and close your eyes. Number two Starting at your toes. Tighten and relax the muscles once move up through your body, performing the tightening and relaxing toes, then ankles, legs, abdomen, shoulders, arms and fingers. Focus all of your attention to each part of your body as you go through this exercise. Number three. Now that your body is relaxed, clear your mind and focus on your breathing. Every time your mind wanders, bring back theory Attention to the breath. Brain Fog Brain fog is a common feeling in today's high paced world. It is the feeling of forgetfulness and lack of mental clarity that most of us experience everyday. Brain fall can be cured through healthy life choices, diet and meditation. Clearing your mental clutter will in create space to relieve this form of mental fatigue. Meditation gives your brain a break from the constant thinking that contributes to brain fog. Brain fog is linked to the health of our gut. Keeping your gut microbiome healthy will do wonders for your mental health and the next slide. I will go over an optimal diet to heal your gut and get your microbiome healthy again. Diet for mental Clarity the following is a list of foods that can heal and maintain your gut. Microbiome High fibre foods such as avocados, cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts. Berries. Leafy green vegetables in apples. Fermented foods such as sauerkraut, pickles, kimchi, coconut water Kiefer in yogurt bone broth. Contains college and rich gelatin in amino acids that he'll the gut lining and then add healthy fats such as fatty fish, olives, coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil, hemp oil and grass fed butter in G. The following is a list of what to avoid when protecting your gut microbiome artificial sweeteners, Antibiotics, Jamel foods sugar non organic produce, overly sterilized environments in unfiltered top water, which contains chemicals such as fluoride, chlorine in aluminum, some keynotes for mental clutter. Slow down and be present in the moment. Do not multitask. Notice your senses by smelling, seeing, hearing, tasting, touching and feeling what is happening around you in this very moment. Take breaks throughout the day and evening to meditate and perform breathing exercises. Clear your to do list to consist of only necessary activities. Stop making too many obligations and delegate when possible, eat a diet that support your gut microbiome and enjoy the mental clarity that it brings into your life 5. Kid Clutter: kid clutter. What about kid clutter? Having Children needs inevitable clutter. Kids accumulate toys, books, crafts, school projects, photos, clothing and lots more. So what do we do about managing kid clutter? I'm gonna walk you through some ideas to present to your Children that will help them get on board with minimalism. You will need to discuss minimalism with um and set your expectations for them. Make them feel like they have an active role in obtaining the families minimalistic lifestyle. They will likely feel the benefits almost right away that we, as adults, experience when we purge and simplify our lives. You will also be instilling values of responsible consumerism in them that they will carry over into their adult lives. When you're doing the minimizing of your home involved the Children in the exercise with the purging blanket and the five piles of keep donate cell, recycle and dispose. Have them do this in their bedroom, and it will give them a sense of accomplishment. Ask them how they feel now that their bedroom is Uncluttered and organized. Share your feelings with them about how minimalism affects your state of well being. Ask your child to ask themselves thes questions before buying or acquiring a new item. Do I really need this item? Am I willing to get rid of another item in order to make space for this new item in my life ? What? I rather spend my money on a fun experience instead of buying this new item. Toys Young Children usually have a lot of toys. Toys are very easy to acquire today. The majority of them are plastic and cheaply made, meaning they're cheap to buy, and they quickly add up toe lots of clutter. The truth is that the less toys that Children have available to them, the more they will play. The recommendation is to have 10 toys available at any one time. Too many toys can overwhelm Children, so keeping the minimal will increase their focus, creativity and sense of mastery. The first step in decluttering toys is to go through the purging process, placing all the toys on the purging blanket and dividing them into five piles. Decide ahead of time on a number of toys. You will allow them to keep I like the number of 30 toys to keep. This will give you three rotations of 10 toys at a time. Now make three bends with 10 toys in each and every week. Open a new been and take the old Been away. This toy rotation is a great tool for keeping toy clutter minimal. Store the bins that aren't in use out of sight. Have a toy corner in the child's bedroom to store the 10 toys in if they're bringing toys to another part of the house. Have a one Toyo one toy in rule, meaning they may only have one toy out of their toy corner at a time throughout the house. This rule teaches them to clean up after themselves. Imagine never having to clean up your child's toys again. This is important for clearing your own schedule clutter as well. Clothing and books since Children grow so quickly, often purging clothing is not an issue out of necessity. Were constantly buying clothing and bigger sizes for them, using a minimal wardrobe approach can help with too much clothing. Buying seven days worth of clothing is a minimal wardrobe. Also, utilize thrift stores when buying clothing toe. Lessen the impact on our planet. Children need books. Reading is very important to their developing minds. Instead of purchasing books, use your local library. Have a set amount of books to burrow at a time, such as five. This is great to minimize clutter. Expand your child's mind and it prevents you from having to read from the same stories over and over again. So that's a bonus school clutter School Clutter consists of crafts, drawings, reports, projects and school supplies. Having a good functioning desk area in your child's room is important. Make sure they have drawers and cupboards to store school supplies and their electron ICS neatly place a bulletin board on the wall behind or near their deaths to place artwork, notes and a calendar. Ask them to keep all of their schools school related items on the bulletin board, including their artwork. Recycle old school work and work books that are no longer in use. You can create a keepsake box for the projects that your child wants to hold on to. Ask your child to be responsible for keeping their desk area clean and clutter free. Keeping the top area surface area clear and clean is a good rule of thumb 6. Simplify Your Digital Clutter: simplify your digital clutter. What is digital clutter? Digital clutter consists of emails, text messages, e books, files, documents, APS, programs, photos, music, movies and subscriptions. Just like physical clutter. Digital clutter requires some of your energy. For each digital item, you must either read, respond, listen to write or organize every piece of your digital clutter, and it could be extremely overwhelming. Minimizing digital clutter can feel Justus good as physical items. It gives you less to do less to think about, unless to stress over. And it creates more space in your life. Often with digital clutter, we can forget how quickly it accumulates. Here are tips on minimizing your digital stuff and keeping your devices clean. Organizing emails. Create a follow up folder and keep folder in your email account. The follow up folder is emails you need to respond to the keep folder is emails that you want to look at again or store permanently go through your inbox in either delete. Your emails are filed them under the folder. Follow up or keep as you're going through your inbox, insists unsubscribed to any stores or subscriptions that you don't read going forward each time you receive an email. You do one of three things. Delete it, file it under, follow up or file it under. Keep aim to keep your in box empty e books, music and movies. If you're not one to read a book more than once, it is okay to delete the book after reading it, and the same goes for movies. Ask yourself honestly whether you will watch or read the item in the future and, if not, delete. If you have stored music on your devices, it is better to subscribe to an audio streaming platform for a monthly fee. Such a Spotify. It frees up space on your device, and it feels cleaner going forward. Utilize subscription streaming services for your music and movies. That way, there's no storage needed. Avoid making long playlists that you cannot keep up on. Take the approach of finding a movie or song when you want to view or listen to it. In the moment, playlists can begin to feel like a chore when they require more time than you want to invest in in them. Photos files In documents With such easy access to our cameras, it is easy to acquire a lot of photos. Removing these photos from your devices and putting them on a cloud service will not only protect you from losing them if something was to happen to your device, but it feels cleaner, neater and more organized. Go through old files and documents and delete what you don't need any more for the files you would like to keep. Upload them to a cloud service so that they don't take space on your computer. Going forward, utilize cloud services and try taking a minimalist mindset when taking photos or downloading files. Is it really something that you will want to dedicate your future? Timeto looking out again? If not, don't acquire it in the first place. Your phone. Your phone is likely. The device that you use the most. Keeping your phone clean of Kleiner is beneficial to your mental health. You don't want to be reminded every time you look at your phone that you have a lot to do or a lot to catch up on. Your home screen should be organized and simple to navigate. Delete APS that you no longer use on a weekly basis on Li Ke Paps that help your life in some way or that you find joy in like your favorite games, organize the APS that you do keep and use often in labelled folders. 7. Simplify Your Finances: simplify your finances. What is financial clutter? Financial clutter consists of items such as old bills, credit card statements, bank statements, receipts and old tax returns. Financial clutter can also mean too many financial obligations, such as debts, monthly bills, credit cards, bank accounts, etcetera. Financial clutter can be extremely stressful. Simplifying your finances in organizing your paperwork can make a major difference for your well being. I will go through some steps to alleviate the stress of financial cloner. I have another section on downsizing at the end of this course. It can be used in conjunction with some ideas in this financial section to minimize your monthly expenses. Minimize papers. The first step in cleaning up your financial clutter is to sort and discard of paperwork you no longer need. Invest in a shredder and toss the piles of bills, statements, old tax returns and receipts for the paperwork. You do need to keep create labeled binders to store them in and keep it all in one place in your home.
