The wreaths are ornamental arrangements, seasonal decoration, and the holiday most widely associated with wreaths is Christmas. While they can be made of almost anything, Christmas wreaths are most often made of fresh greenery and seasonal flowers.

Their circular shape is said to symbolize eternal life and the unending love of God. The meanings of birds in Christianity and their symbolism varies greatly from representing immortality, and spirit messengers to representing fertility, protection, and strength.

1. 01 welcome : Hi, my name is George. And then today's course you will learn how to paint this wonderful wreath with a bird. This is a very easy watercolor illustration to make. You will only need three colors to make it. You can make it either on a single paper or you can make it as a card to give it as a gift to someone you love. You will get step-by-step encouragement on how to do exactly everything that you need. In order to complete this illustration. It will go over drawing, over fainting, over techniques, over color mixing dips, and a few other sprinkles on top to make the illustration look amazing. With all of that being said, welcome to the course. 2. 1 christmas bird materials: Okay, for this project you will need water color paper. This is 350 GSM grams per square meter. And it's a four. And you will have to fold it in half. Tried to go above 200 and stick below 300 for this project. And the GSM, the grams per square meter, because it still needs to be watercolor paper, which is thicker and holds a lot of water and it needs to be folded. So if it's higher than 300, then it's going to be very hard to fold it. Ok, for the pencil, this is a very simple pencil. Everyone has this pencil in their household and an eraser do not use the end of the pencil as the racer, especially if it's a colored eraser at the end, this will make your paper green or red or whatever color it's at the end. Use specific eraser. The way you pick a good eraser, it's a little bit squishy, not too much, but it's flexible and it's completely white. Okay, do not use the green eraser that will make your paper green. Going in. For the colors, you will need only three colours, and these will be washed colors, but you can use watercolor as well. The reason you want to use three colors is because you will learn a lot more from mixing those three colors. Then from just having 200 colors, a 100 tubes or 12 or 24 tubes of color, and using a specific color, you will be able to create almost any colors using these three colors. And you will learn a lot in the process. And the colors will also feel a lot more natural. They are not straight out of the tube. Most amateurs make this mistake by using straight out of the tube color. It's good, but it's better to mix them a little bit to have them look more natural. And these colors are yellow, magenta, and primary cyan. If you don't find the magenta or the cyan, you can use red and blue, whatever red and blue, you can and mix them together and mix the colors together until you find the colors you need. Okay, we are using wash because in the future, if you want to paint in wash, you can paint it like that. But would watercolors, you cannot do that. So gosh, can be used as watercolor easily end. Even though they're a little bit more expensive. They are long lasting as well. Okay, for the brush, you will only need one single brush, this small number 0, round brush. This is a synthetic brush. And of course you will need some tape to tape down the paper. This is painter state you can find this in any store. You probably already have it. But if you don't, do not use normal tape, use painter's state. This is specifically very good for paper because it, we'll not bruise the paper. You will need a cup for the water. A plate where you will put and squeeze the colors and the different plate for mixing all the colors. This is very important to keep them separate. You can use ceramic plates because they do not stain with watercolor and wet wash. So don't worry about any damage. And there you go. These are all the materials you need for this project. 3. 2 christmas bird tapeing the paper: Okay, taping down the vapor is very important because it will bend quite a bit and it will ruin most watercolors if you let it bends. So it's very important to put the tape on all sides. Now, a good tip over here is to not go over the part of the tape that goes over the paper because that in the end when you will remove it, it will bruise the paper. So be very gentle. You can, you can go and press very hard on the board, but do not press where they shape is on top of the paper because that will bruise quite a bit of the paper once you take it off. Just going in for the last one. Just like that. Do not do not cover too much of the paper. Cover as little as possible. You can go with your nails, with the back of your nails and on the board just to fix it a little bit more. And there you go. Let's go on and draw. 4. 3 christmas bird drawing the bird: Okay. For the drawing, taking the tape or any circular thing that you have around the house, just make sure is position in the center. Just going and making a beautiful circle in the middle. You don't have to press this hard on the pencil. In the video. It's pressed this hard so you can clearly see what it is drawn on the paper. Going on. For the next step, you're going to need to draw a bird. This is a very simple way to draw a bird. Just draw a circle. Doesn't need to be perfect. And then an oval for the body, just like that. Connect them together. And then make a small beak for the bird and make the body a little bit more pronounced. And the beak as a small triangle, let's make it black. Make a beautiful circle for the eye just over there. And now going in for the wing of the bird, just like that. And of course, playing around with the pencil, don't worry about that too much. And going in and making the tail of the bird just like that, connecting it to the body. There are two tails, so just like that. And two feet, simple, two lines. And this is going to be the bird in the circle. It's very simple to do. Now that you understand how to do it. You can put a circle just over there. You can erase a little bit of the middle. And the same way. This time being a bit more careful to make the circle tiny bit more circular, let's say. And now for the body, just making the body as an oval, It is a little bit more pronounced. It has a little bit more of a chest shape in front of it. You can see in the first drawing that that is the case. So basically the oval on the right side is a little bit more pronounced. Very simple. And now I'm going in for the wing, just like that, with a few zigzags to indicate that beautiful blink. And then the wonderful tail, as well as connecting the rest of the body with the under side of the wing. Just like that, making the outline a bit more for announced. Just so you can see it. It doesn't need to be that dark. You can also add the beak. You can make the outline a little bit more round to the inside. And erase a little bit of the circle for the head because it's not actually there. It's a construction circle. And that's all you need for the drawing. The rest around the circle, you will start to bend just using the circle as reference and the beautiful brush with wash, with watercolor. Okay, let's go into the next step. 5. 4 christmas bird leaf example: Ok, jumping a little bit into the future, making a beautiful green. This is just for demonstration purposes. The next exercise is to show exactly how to make some beautiful leaves but bigger. So you'll understand better what's going on in the next step. You do not need to make this exercise. However, if you want to, you can try on another paper for the leaf. It's very simple, starting what a line and then adding some thickness, just going down. That's very easy. If you want to create a little bit of depth into the leaf, you can add more dark green onto width just by adding some blue and some red onto the green. Okay, and connecting another leaf on top of it. And then a stem, basically the branch that the leaves come from, taking some water and blending those two colors together. And of course, you can just put some dots over here at the bottom. And at the top, it's very important to clump up together the dots, not have them, just individual dots and also you can put some lines. This will be around the circle, as you can see at the top. And you can make more leaves. You can start to see how easy it is once you get the hang of it, you can just put one over there, one over there. These are different colors as you can see. So they will look quite different. And would all of that being said, let's just jump into the next step. 6. 4a christmas bird leaf circle: Okay, now that you know how to make the beautiful leaves, you can squeeze some yellow, some blue, and some red or magenta, whichever one you have onto the mixing plate, onto the color plate actually. And going in for the magenta, dislike that magenta is very good or red is very good for greens because you will mute and make those greens a lot more natural. Faking some water with 0 round brush and some yellow to put on top. That's a lot of water, as you can see. And taking some blue to make a beautiful red, as you can see, it's a very, very intense green and adding some more yellow to it, some more blue and some magenta too. Cut that color a little bit. And once you've done that, you can take some more water and start on your first leaves. Just right below the beautiful bird, make a wonderful leaf. And then another one on top. Depending on the kind of paper you have. This will create a different edge at texture, texture edge for the leaf. And just going around the circle, you can jump around onto the circle. Don't just go around it the whole way. Because it's very important to have Areas of leaves that you will do with this color. And once you change it, like for instance, just now, taking some more yellow and making a different colored green and making another leaf on another side. As you can see, this will make a lot more of an interesting illustration. So it will look quite amazing. Once you have all these Green's can go for a beautiful line, beautiful branch that has leaves on it. Super easy to do. And going in for leaf, just going a little bit to the side. And then going for another one on top. You can start to see it's already very diverse and it has two colors. And if you put a little bit of red in there, you will find another color which you can use on top, you can start to see is quite different and more natural. Just like that, making another leaf on top. And then playing with variety and following the circle, you can go a little bit outside of the circle as you can see, but keeping that circle going, it will look very good. By the end, mixing the two colors together will give you another leaf color. You can also go a little bit over those leaves to create that interesting look that was exemplified in the latest in the last video, going in for some lines. Just like that. You can start to see how interesting it can start to look. Once you go in and make a lot of colors, a lot of greens, and a lot of leaves, just like that, making another one. You can also add variety to the color by just adding more water to the color and mixing it somewhere else. This will make more light version of that color. As you can see, it created this very minty light color. Just like that. Once you need a little bit more humph to your green, you can add more color from the outer part and add some dots here and there, and some lines just connecting the dots to the leaves. The dots don't need to be connected all the time. This is still a painting, doesn't need to be a 100% realistic. However, some beautiful lines can add a lot more of an interesting look to the illustration. You can also go over, once they're a little bit dry, you can go over some leaves as well, have them just cross each other. Especially if you go for a dark leaf on top of lighter leaf, you can also connect them. So they seem like they grow out of each other, just going in and adding some more magenta to the first green and instantly creating a new color. Just like that. It's a little bit more gray, but it will adds some more of an interesting look to the painting. Just going in and making another leaf. Very, very nice. Just trying to put it wherever it looks like it needs another leaf. As you can see, just mixing the two colors, the getter will add you another color. There's a lot of variety and this is the secret of good illustration and good paintings. Even though it's all just green, different shades of green. You are mixing a lot of colors. So just like that. So you're not just using one simple, easy Green from the tube. You are mixing a lot of greens just over there if you can see it. And of course this being watercolour, it's still blends into getter, so it creates even more colors. That's like that, following the circle, going around, just making an underline, combining the two colors will give you another color. So you can start to paint on. Just connect the two together. And also the direction of the leaves is quite important as well. So as you can see it just from going from the right, they go up and then from the left I go the other way. And once they meet, they can, you can just about make them just an enter twine, let's say take going for some more leaves on the bottom just over by the bird. Just going for some of that bluer shade and making it a little bit bigger onto the bottom. Also connecting with this very different bluish color. Connecting that to the rest of the circle. Just like that, making some more lines and some more leaves to make the circular, beautiful leaf ornament a little bit more big at the bottom, having a lot more to show, and becoming thinner and thinner as it goes up. And looking around, you can start to see some spaces where you can put some dots or some leaves around. You can add a lot of dots just like that. And of course it's very important to add some leaves behind the bird as well. This will create just a nice effect that the bird doesn't just stay there on top of everything and it's not connected. It's very important to have something behind the bird as well. If this were a bigger painting, a bigger illustration, we would have a few leaves over to burden as well to create even more that. Okay, going in for some dots, you can put them on top of the leaves us well, if they have dried, as you can see, it creates even more of an interesting effect. And some lines connecting those dots as well. And some lines around just floating as branches, just like that. And there you go, clean up the brush quite nicely. And there you go with the leaves. Perfect. 7. 5 chirstmas bird red dots: Ok. Once everything has dried up, you can now use some water, add quite a bit of magenta, and mix it with yellow. This way you will be creating a beautiful reds. Yellow and magenta create a very, very strong red. Magenta being quite purple, light the reddish purple. Once you've done that, you can start to create dots exactly like the green dots, but this time make more and make them bigger. You can also make a fine point by just going on the plate and rotating the brush. Very nice. As you can see, you can start on the right side with a dot and try to clump them together. I have two or three together of different sizes. And it's like that. And don't be very picky and if they're perfectly round or not, they just need to look like dots. That's all. They can have. Different sizes, different shapes. So k, because this is in nature, round, things are not perfectly round, so it's fine. Okay. Going in for the left-hand side with three more and the bottom just like that, adding another one. And going around the circle. As you can see at the bottom, just making them not a one. As over there is like that. This is very, very easy to do. It's just very nice and peaceful. Relaxing, just making dots and try to feel it out where it needs another dot and go along. You can jump around the circle and do more if you want, okay? And going in and making more dots, you can go over the leaves as well. And that will create darker dots. As well as if you want, you can add more water and make more transparent dots of a different red as you did for the leaves. If you add water to it, it will become lighter, the color. Going on and adding more smaller dots on the left side, a big one. And then adding, jumping around and adding some small ones and medium one. Just like that. Very simple to do. Just going over the leaves, start to see it. The green and the red contrasts so good together. And of course they do because they are complimentary colors. They compliment each other. It's just a fancy word to say that they are opposites. On the color wheel going in. That's exactly the reason why. Whenever you put red or magenta or something like that into a green, that's why it loses color. It becomes more grey. It's because they are complimentary colors, they are opposites. And the combination of the two should give you gray. Adding some more dots. Trying to keep them very disorganized. It's easy to do. If you keep them not being on a line. You just break up and do different dots in different places. It helps quite a bit. Breaking all patterns. At the top, you can start to see there's a line form. So it needs either a dot a little bit outside or a little bit inside. So that's how you break a line of dots. You clump them together, and you break that line by making another one on the edge or inside or on the outside of the line, as you can see, just breaking a little bit of that line just inside and outside, making some more dots. As you can see, the water is a little bit more in the brush, so it creates different kinds of brush marks. And there you go. This is the dots section of the course. Let's go into the next step. 8. 6 chirstmas bird first layer of the bird: Going to the next step, take some magenta, some blue and some yellow make a very dark bluish purple. The yellow helps make the color a little bit more array. And just like that, creating the beautiful color, you can add it to the outside of the bird on the left side, as well as on the small tail just behind the bird. Just like that. Going in, just carefully going over, cleaning up the brush a little bit so you can make the color a little bit more transparent and a little bit more light. And going around the head just like that. And going inside and continuing to draw in the beautiful bird just like that. Going around the edge with the brush. Perfect. And don't forget for the other part of the tale. Once you've done that, you can add a little bit more color to the purple and more yellow just to make it quite dark and add little bit of color to the bottom of the bird at, near the edge and at the beak, just like that. And of course, for the outer tale, once that is done, you can clean up the brush. You can also add a little bit under the chin and clin clean up the brush with some water and put that water onto the plate and then go in and blend the two colors. The getter don't over blend just a little bit at the edge where they meet is enough. Now, let it dry for four or five minutes before you put the belly of the bird. Now, as they say and do as the priest says, not as the priest does. As you can see, I do not follow the same defies, which will be mistake. You will see in a few seconds, okay, adding some red and some yellow so that it blends together with the red that's already on the paper. And just there it contacts into the blue and it starts to spread, which is not good. So fixing that mistake, just putting a little bit of the finger on top of the paper and it quite fixes it. Okay, let's go into the next step. 9. 7 8 9 chirstmas bird finishing touches: After everything has dried completely, going in for some more dark to put in that I, and a few more details here and there on the beak, under the chin, and going in for just a few lines to add a little bit more contrast to the bird and contour. And there you go. Okay, now you can remove the tape would be very, very gentle and very careful with doing this. Go very slowly and be careful and gentle so the paper doesn't bruise. As you can see. It's not leaving any paper onto the painter's tape. Just like that going in for the next one and removing it very slow. This is very important so that you don't proves the paper. You will see by the end that it's a little bit bruised. In my case, especially at the top, just to give you an example of how it looks. Okay, removing the last one, just over dare, fare effect and going in. And it picks up quite a bit of paper once it's bruised. So be very gentle as you can see just over there it started to look. And this will make the paper look a little bit. That as you can see, if you're not very careful, it does, they're up quite a bit. You can start to see on the tape. And there you go. The card is almost finished. Just a few more touches with the eraser. You can just go in with the eraser and erase the pencil marks just like that very slowly. Don't go overboard because it does erase a little bit of the watercolor and the Galatia as well. So just go in and just erase just a tiny bit of the pencil marks where they seem to show up too much. Okay? Once you've done that, you can sign your creation and rejoice at the beautiful illustration. Thank you so much for being part of this community. Thank you for taking the course. And if you are gracious enough, you will post your marvelous illustration onto the review page. Hopefully you had a great time with this course.
