1. Introduction: Hello and welcome to the shop. If I e commerce course, my name is Derek Mitchell and I'll be your instructor with this course, and I'm really excited to take you along this journey and show you everything that I know about Shopify, and this is geared towards two different types of people. You're either somebody who wants to learn how to create Shopify stores to resell, so you'll be somebody who would be like a service provider. You're either a graphic designer or Web developer, and you want to add this as a skill set as a service that you can offer to your clients. Or you're somebody who wants to create your own online store, maybe to sell stickers and swag in T shirts or different products that you confined through drop shipping. So we're gonna show you both of those options, and the way this course is structured is we're gonna get you up and running first so we'll show you. The difference is and how to get set up a shop fight. Super basic, super straightforward. We'll get you up and running in no time, and then once you have your feet under you and you understand how it works. I'm gonna let you look over my shoulder, and we're gonna do a real case study. So I have a client. His name is Dr Greg and I have a logo design course where we actually created a logo for him. And he loved it. It got her foot in the door. And now he wants me to create a Shopify website for him. So would be showing you exactly how I do that as faras. How Shop high relates to creating this for a client will show you the project discovery phase where we learn about what he needs. And I show you how to actually communicate with the client and treat this like a real project. Then the next thing we're gonna do is I'm actually gonna be creating my own Shopify website where I'll be setting up products and merchandise that actually you could buy shameless plug. So I'm really excited about this course. We're gonna have a ton of fun doing it. And in the next lesson, we're gonna dive in and get you squared away. You can check that out, and in the next video, we're gonna get you up and running, so let's go ahead and dive in. 2. Things To Consider: So this quick video, I just want to go over some things to consider before you totally dive into shop, setting up a Shopify account Super basic. If you set up anything on who Lou or Netflix or Gmail account, or you know these courses on you, to me or on my own website in derek Mitchell dot com. Anywhere Ugo and you have to set up an account, it's all basically the same email address for your name. Set up a password in urine. So in the next video, we're gonna go in and show you the exact details of how to do that. But before we get down to that side of things, I want to just take a minute to talk about a couple considerations. So the first is, let's say you want to do this as a continued business model where you're selling Shopify websites to your clients. I like to have my clients log in and create their own account. And the reason why is because then when they go in, they essentially hold the keys to their kingdom is what I like to say, and that way I'm not married to them. So what that means is they go in, they set up their own account and then they send me the log in information. And we're going to do that with Dr Greg. He's already done this and I have his log in information. And that way, once his 14 day trial expires, he gets the notifications and he automatically puts in his billing information and pays for the service. That way he's totally responsible for it, and I don't have to worry about that as a service provider. Now I know there are ways for you to set up your account and transfer permissions and things like that, but for me, it's just easier just to have them do it, then get up and running right away. They've got a little bit of skin in the game, and that gives me time to do my research after the Discovery call while they're getting their account set up. OK, so that's how I like to approach things. Not to right a wrong way is just how I do it. Okay, so right now are in the next video. I'm gonna go ahead and set up my own personal accounts that we can follow along and look at some of the different options and how that works. So I'll be making my own website will be doing some drop ship stuff will be making some products will be a ton of fun. So before we get into those things, though, I just want to take a second to look at the pricing. So if you go to Shopify dot com before you commit to this as something you want to do, just be aware here your basic pricing options. So they do try to up sell you on the basic Shopify. And this would be if you don't have any other website, and you want to use Shopify to create maybe your home page and about page your contact page and host your products and everything. Okay, so that starts at $30 a month after the 14 day trial, there's a few different options here. You look at the check marks and just see what the more expensive options get you. But for a majority of what you're gonna be doing, the $29 a month option will be just fine. OK, but what they don't show you if you're at the top here. You don't really see it, but they do have a Shopify light plan, which is actually really cool. So I will probably be using a Shopify light plan because I already have a WORDPRESS website . So a derek Mitchell dot com that is built on WordPress and I like it because as a developer , I can arm wrestle that to do whatever I want. I can add a blogger. I can customize things I can do literally, whatever I want. And it's super flexible. Plus, it actually is a little bit cheaper the way that I have it hosted, and we can talk about that later. But the point is, with a Shopify light plan, I can host all of my products through Shopify and then add a button on to my Facebook page or through Facebook Messenger or on any other website platforms. If you're already using, say, wicks or squarespace or, in my case, WordPress, you can throw your products in there without having to recreate an entire website, so this plan is only $9 a month, so that might be something that if you're looking at getting into this, you might start here and that way you can get usedto bringing in your products, setting things up, maybe getting some traction. If you already have friends on Facebook that will see your stuff compared to starting with a brand new Shopify site that has no traffic and no traction. Okay, so these are some things to consider as you're going to be creating your store and getting set up. So think about that real quick, maybe Take a minute, posits video and think about where you want to go on how you want to dive in. Because in the next video, I'm gonna be setting up my own Shopify account and you'll be following along. All right. Thanks, guys. We'll see the next video. 3. Tips When Creating an Account: So in this video, we're gonna go ahead and set up your Shopify account, and I want to just go ahead and take a second to point out a couple different paths you could take. We talked about the Shopify, different pricing points, and then we also talked about how there's the shop highlights. Let me show you that real quick. So you're gonna go ahead and go to shop, fight out calm to create your new account. Before we do that, I just want to show you I'm actually logged in right now to Dr Gregg's admin area. And I have a screenshot of what a Shopify light account looks like. If we look in the dashboard on the left hand side again, I know I'm jumping hedged a little bit, but I want you to have a clear understanding before we dive in and you make it make a decision. And on top of that, you have 14 day free trial. So you're not really locked into anything yet, But again, just so you know where you're headed and you start to think about this. So on his live site over here we have a dashboard that you'd expect to see on any other website kind of website builder as faras Um, just all these little links here. Now down here under the sales channel, we have an online store, and that's where he hosts his store file. So he's got his pages and navigation and the domain name and the preferences and blawg posts and themes. You can change all of that lives under this online store sales channel. Now, if we were to just do the Shopify light, you've got sales channels here, and they've got a point of sale. Ah, by button, Facebook and messenger. But you'll notice it doesn't have an online store, so that's the difference. By paying that $30 a month, you get the online store option as a sales channel. Now, if you pay that extra like that $30 a month as a base charge, you can click on the little plus sign, and you can add all these other sales channels. So again I'm getting ahead of myself. But I want you to start wrapping your mind around the difference between on this one. We got Shopify light. We've got thes things we can do here or the full Shopify version where we actually add the online store. Okay, so now those have been made. Those clarifications. Let's go ahead and set up your account. So here Shopify dot com being follow the link below in the video click right here on this big start your free trial button. Really basic. Just put in your email address, so I'll put in my email address. Put in your password, and you can have it auto. Suggest a password or create your own Derek Mitchell store. All right, so whatever you wanna call it, this is just temporary. As you build your site, you can change this later, and you can also create a full custom mural, and we'll talk about that in the later video. So now that I've got that started, will hit, create your store, all right? And they're creating this store. I'm gonna go ahead and save this password to my computer, so I don't have to think about it next time I log in and that's it. Success. You're ready to go so we can skip all these steps. But I'm gonna go ahead and do this anyway. Tells a little bit about yourself. So This is for my personal Derek Mitchell store and I already selling. No, I'm not selling products yet, or I can say I'm just playing around. So, um, I'm just I'm not selling products yet, cause I do plan to sell products here in the in the near future. My current revenue just getting started, So nothing yet, But Dang, look at this. A $1,000,000. That'd be pretty sweet. All right, So gold to shoot for for sure. And am I setting up a store for a client? This one is currently for me, so I'm gonna say no. But you can click. Yes, I'm designing developing a store for a client. And I'm gonna go ahead and actually do that just to see you guys can see what happens when we do that. I'm gonna click next. All right, so let's get an address in there so we can get paid. First. Name is gonna be my name on my last name. My address, my phone number, all my details. I'll click inter my store. All right. I'll put in my current website address, enter my store. Alright. And just like that, I've got my Shopify store set up. So you'll notice that the bottom I can select a plan and that my trial just started. So I have 14 days from today to get started. So with that in mind, we're going to go ahead and pause this video, and in the next video, we're gonna go ahead and drill down deeper into our settings. 4. Selecting a Plan: All right. So congratulations. Hopefully you took the time to create your Shopify account. And if you haven't done that yet, pause this video and do a real quick. I can wait. It won't take you more than a couple of seconds. And that way you can follow along with me. So ready? Go. If you haven't already. Okay, so now that you're back and you have your Shopify account set up, let me just take you through One more thing to consider, and then we'll be off and running. So once you log in and create your account, you'll be redirected to this home page and you'll notice you've got this button at the bottom assist. Select a plan. You also have it right? Appeared. It says your trial just started. Select a plan. And so they really do want you to select a plan. And the reason why I really want to point this out to you. As by default, you get access to everything during your trial. So over here into your sales channel, you have this online store channel that we talked about. So this would be a full online story full website. You can add pages. So if I click on this, we can add pages at Blawg posts. We can select a theme. We do a lot of cool stuff. So by default, when I jump in here, I can see that I've got this debut theme already going. I can click up here to view my store. This is my Shopify store already up and running, looking amazing. And, you know, I can start flushing this out now. The reason why I want to point this out to you is I don't want you to waste any time messing with your theme or changing a bunch of stuff for adding pages if you're going to do the Shopify light. Okay, so if you do, the shop highlights wedding clicks like the plan. And let's just say you only want to do, uh, so this, you know, if you select a plan starting at 30 bucks a month, it won't bill you for the 1st 2 weeks. But you let's say you start making this online store and you really only wanted to do the light thing. So if I want to do only the $9 a month plan, which I actually might want to do for me personally, because if I jump into my regular website here, this website at derek Mitchell dot com is built on WordPress so I could add a page in WordPress and I could call it store or shop or a peril or swag or whatever I want to do. Like, even had drop down menus and do all of this in WordPress. I'm already spending about $15 a month to host this with flywheel, and I don't want to spend an extra $30 a month the host all of this because I really only want the products. Now you might be asking yourself if you're familiar with WordPress. Well, why didn't you just build all of this on loop commerce? And that's a whole nother topic will get into it another day. But to sum it up, I like how streamlined Shopify is for my users, and I also like being able to do some of the drop ship option so we'll get into that in a minute. But all that to say I could create a page in WordPress, and then I could add my buy now buttons, OK, so if that's the plan. I'm gonna go with which, which I am for my store. I don't want my trial. I don't want to start flushing out all of my store themes and stuff and then remove it later so I could click remove online store. It will remove my store and then I'll just start flushing out my sales channels through the buy buttons so I can add that I can re enable this channel at any time. So what I would do right now is, I'll just say, I'm going. Teoh, use Shopify on my word press site. I'll click Remove channel. All right, So now I would have successfully removed that website is a sales channel and I'd want to add a sales channel either here or here does the same thing. I'll click on that, and then I would click and scroll down, click at a buy button, and now I can start creating my buy button to actually sink this up with my WordPress site . So we're gonna get to that in some future lessons. But I just wanted you to see this before you go any further before you start flushing out your theme or spending money on a theme if you have no intention of using Shopify that way , so hopefully it helps you in the next video. We're actually going to go back into our theme and start styling things for Shopify. 5. Selecting a Theme: all right. In the last video, we took a minute to describe the difference between having your online store versus just the Shopify light plan and having a buy button so removed the online store and we added a buy button. But now we're gonna actually reverse that so I can show you how to do that, in case you didn't mean to where you changed your mind and they were gonna get into selecting your scene and what to consider for that. So let's go ahead and jump into our dashboard real quick. We have our sales channels. We no longer have that online store like we talked about. And we're not going to create a buy button right now. We don't have any products to add to it. So let's go ahead and go back to this little plus sign under sales channels and then down here, click on the manage sales channels link, and I'm going to add a sales channel. We'll add our online store so that will bring back in our option to add pages to add a blawg to do everything you would expect with the full website. Now our online stores back. I'm gonna come back to this little plus sign. I'll click on this and go back down to manage sales channels and this time, a quick little trash can over here by the buy button because I don't need it right now. And I don't want Teoh have that culture up. My sidebar. So click removed by button. So this just kind of shows you how toe ad sales channels remove sales channels, and it's just kind of a minor footnote as we're getting into this. But let's go back to our online store and let's select our theme and kind of take a look at that. So with my online sales channel, my store, I've got my themes, and I can click appear to view my store so that just quickly to see what's going on, what it already looks like. And again, it defaults to this debut theme, and you've got a handful of free themes you can choose. If we scroll down here, I can click explore free themes, which will open up this little pop up window, and there's just a handful of look at or if I click on the Shopify theme store, visit the theme store, you could still see the free themes. But what I like about this is that lets you actually, um if I come down here and click on explore themes, this lets me actually browse all the themes and I can actually choose how I want Teoh filter this. So let me show you where that's really helpful. So for example, uh, foreign Dr Gregg's case with his website I could click under industry and come down to health and beauty, cause it's a supplement company. It's like a health company. Or maybe sports and recreation. Click on that and it's gonna filter. Now. I only have 19 themes to look at, right. So it makes it a lot easier for me to see at a glance what might fit my store the quickest , right, without having to really dive into this so I can search by industry. Or maybe you know, this Cates art and photography for my store personally. All right. So I can filter and kind of look at this or and click appear on this little X to take off the filter and I can look on the side say, Hey, I only want the free theme. So there's only 10 free themes. There's not that many, but you can see that it's enough to get just started without having to spend any money. Or if you need a premium paid theme. Typically, these happiest a few more custom is ations, and, you know, maybe the design is better. Let's look at this from the perspective of both my site and Dr Greg site. We both will probably have large catalogues, meaning will sell a lot of products. So if I click on this, there's really only two themes they recommend. If you have a lot of products to sell, that's from the free version. If I click on paid and have them both filter in there, you can see that there's about 24 themes that do well with a large category. So this is how I get started. When I'm looking at what female want to choose, I go through and I think about well, who's the end user and where is this site going to be used? So for Dr Gregg's case, he's gonna have he just sent me. I think eight different categories and probably 100 different products for my site personally, I might have between 12. The 30 products have a few different T shirts, maybe some stickers and things like that. So I'll go through and pick out a theme. I'm probably going to start with a free theme for myself, for Dr Greg Will probably not buying one of these themes that are about 140 to $180 because I know he wants to do some things with video in the future and also because I know that he wants to do some things with his image slide show on the home page. So I'm gonna look at these themes, and I'm gonna pick the appropriate theme based on that. So when you go to select a theme just to show you when it comes time to pick your own theme , let's go back here. You're going to start off with the freebie theme. I'm definitely start for the freebie theme, so click back here on explore free themes again, the debut right here. It says current. That's currently what's installed on our site. But let's say I want to change it to this venture theme. I'll click on this. I can see that there's three different styles right out of the box that I can choose their all pretty cool for now. I'm gonna leave it at this snowboard style. I'll click. Add to theme library down here and now. Its added that to my library. But you'll notice the debut theme is still my current theme. So if I scroll down, this theme has been added to my library. Venture just added, but it's not actually live yet, So if I'm ready to make it live, I can click on this twirl down option that I can click on Publish. I can also rename it Aiken duplicated Aiken. Download the theme file. If you're feeling really brave and you want to edit the code, you can do that as well. But for now, we're just gonna go ahead and click Publish. It's gonna ask me, Am I sure? I'll click publish again. Now that seems published, and if I come back up here to the top and click on the view, my store button, you can see that that new theme is installed and currently active, so we got some work to do. We've got some slides to add and we need to drop in our content. But for the most part, that's pretty much it, guys. That's how you install a theme for your Shopify site, as well as where to find the premium themes, how to filter it and try and find the best solution for your needs. 6. Creating a Custom Logo: So in this video, I'm gonna show you how to create a custom logo if you don't have one and the once we get a custom logo will bring that into our new theme to start styling our website. Now I hesitated to jump right into this for this section. And the reason why is because if your brand new to this or maybe not a great designer, this could be something that could easily you could spend a lot of time doing and waste a lot of time. And this could also be more of a complex topic. So if if you're at a spot where you don't have a logo yet, you're not ready for that, that maybe skip ahead to the other lessons where we do the pages and continue setting up the website. But this is my work flow. So for looking at a website, we got top to bottom left to right. The very top left thing is usually a logo, and if you're working for a client, a lot of times they already have a logo. If they don't, there you go get your foot in the door and make them a logo. While you're at it. But I say all this because as you start to set up your theme, dropping in a logo goes a long ways and starting to style, eyes everything and making it feel more like your own. So that's what I would do next. That's what we're gonna jump in and do again. If you're not ready for a logo, go ahead and skip this video and you always come back to it later. So we've got a lot of ground to cover. I'm going to show you some different three logo maker sites. So if you're not a designer, you can jump in and create something that's good enough for now I'll show you how I created my logo, my personal logo, and they were gonna take you that long ago that I haven't actually drop it into my website . So by the end of this video, you'll know how to create a logo and how to put it into the website. So again, ah, lot of ground to cover. And we're just gonna do kind of some surface area stuff. I do have a logo design course not to be sales pitching you on this video But I do have a course that goes more into depth if that's something you want to pursue. But for now, let's just go ahead and dive in and get this logo into our website. So all right, we're gonna go ahead and jump in, and the first thing I want to show you is that if you're if you're very, very beginner, or maybe you're somebody who's working on a tight timeline or, you know you don't have time for this, whatever. There are quite a few free logo maker sites. So if you go to Google, just type in logo maker and just kind of scroll through. You'll see. There are all kinds of things and websites that say they can make a logo for you, so let's go ahead and dive into a couple of them. One of them if I were to type in Ah Shopify logo maker Shopify has their own logo maker called Hatch ful, so dive right in, get started, choose what industry you're in, so we'll just go with tech for now. We'll click next, click some visual style, so maybe creative futuristic. I don't know vintage. We'll click. Next. Add your business name you can see. I've already done this once. How about a slogan? My awesome slogan goes here. All right, Boom Will click next. All right. And how am I going to use the logo? We'll just have it used on everything, and I'll click next. So check it out. What? We made these logos for you. Okay, so most of these I'm not gonna lie are pretty terrible. But in a pinch, You know, I could maybe grab one that would do the job so I can scroll through. And for the sake of just going faster, this tutorial will click one. And when I do, you can see that I can change fonts. I can change the name. And it's pretty limited, though, like it's not, you know, it's It's very, very basic. The color just not even the hex color picker that I see. It's basically just kind of choosing what they've put in for me. So click next and check it out. Aiken down with logo, and it gives me a fabric con that your favorites icon. That's what goes up here in your websites. All these bookmarks that have these RL called fab icons or favor con whatever you wanna call it. Facebook Cover photo profile. Image, Instagram profile. Twitter profile. Lots of really great stuff you can click Download. It's gonna ask you to make an account first, but there you go. There is a quick way to have a logo made with this logo maker if you had to in a pinch. Okay. There's also 99 designs, like maybe you're a, uh you're not a designer, and you're looking to hire somebody else. There is Canada. We can get into that. That's a whole nother thing where you could make a logo. You can actually a lot of other graphics with Canada as well. Definitely. Check that out. If you're not a designer, maybe even if you are a designer, Okay, There's logo maker. Wickes has a logo maker. Squarespace has a logo maker. All right, so there's literally endless amount of ways that you can make a logo if you don't have access to the adobe creative suite or something like that. You're just looking for something in a pinch. All right, on to the next thing. So my personal logo that I use is actually have it in two formats a habit as this image I brought in, I took a Sharpie. I do it on a piece of white printer paper, took a picture with my phone, sent it into photo shop, created this image from it. And then I brought it into illustrator and vector Rised it as well, so you can't see it cause it's white. But there it is. If I show the outlines K. So if you want to learn how to do that like maybe you're an artist and you want to learn how to you, maybe you want a hand, draw something or do something trendy like that, or even just a signature, right? Goes a long ways in and branding your own website. So I actually have a YouTube video. Ah, link it below. If you just go to my YouTube channel youtube dot com ports last Derek Mitchell and then search for Episode 11. Create a logo, sharpies and illustrator actually go through and I show you exactly what I did to create this logo. Okay, so, uh, hopefully that helps you as well, if you're looking for a way to do that. So there's some simple solutions on how to create a logo. You're working for a client or somebody already has one. Now you can just dive in and actually get to work on that. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna come to our online store, will come into themes were now in Shopify here, and depending what your current theme is, you might see some different options. But over here, you should see this customized button so we'll click on that. And once that opens again, depending on your theme, you'll see some different options here on the left hand side. But typically, what we're looking for, we can either click on this right here. It should take us to the home page if it brings you somewhere else as far as clicking on the store name. But click over here on Header and right here has the option for a logo image. So if you don't have anything, you can explore free images. But these are just gonna be images. They're not gonna be true logos. If I click on select image and I already uploaded my logo that I have, it'll throw that right in there. And I exported this as a PNG file, So there's transparency. So that way, whatever I put in, the header will show through without it being a light box. Okay. Ah, Click Select. And now this custom logo width in pixels 450 pixels is a ton, and I want to see a little quick tip. If you're on a Mac on a PC, I'm not sure if it can do this, but command shift and the number four and it turns my cursor into this cross hair, and it tells me the pixels where I'm at on the screen. And if I click and drag it would take a screenshot of that area, which you have probably seen in somewhere the tutorial. So if I would let go, it would throw this picture on my desktop. But also you can see in the corner so that 400 if I drag it out, that box now is 450 pixels wide by 90 pixels tall. So I use this sometimes if I have to measure on my screen to see how big something is not Don't let go. My mouse is still held down. If I hit the space bar, I can move this and I can see. Yep, that's about 450 pixels. That's huge. So maybe I want to make it, you know, smaller. Like here. If you know about this big, this looks like it's about 200 pixels. That's still pretty big. I drink it down, and maybe I wanted to match my websites. I'm gonna hit escape would open up a new tab, and I'll go to my website. And that's why I logo to be about the same size and hit command shift in the number four. Now, I hit the space bar, and I've been holding down my mouse button this whole time. Drag this up here, and I can see this is this must be about 150 pixels by about 70 pixels tall. 150. I'm gonna escape, cause I don't want to take a picture of that. Come back over here and I'm gonna changes to 150. There we go. And now, in theory, the logo is about the same size on both websites. All right, there we go. So that's how you would add a logo, and I'm gonna go ahead and hit. Save over here and now my logo is in the website, so I know I flew through that, and hopefully this This gets you in the right ballpark for how to do these things. There's a bunch of tips I just shared with you. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to ask. And in the next video, we'll continue to refine our theme. We're gonna go ahead and create a new header or a slider image. So this big space right here, as we're looking at this, is called the slide or a slider or header image by adding an image that matches your brand . It goes a long way and immediately changing the look and feel of your website. So we're gonna go ahead and do that next. 7. Create a SImple Home-Page Slide Graphic: all right, Hopefully you're following along and you've got a logo dropped into your website. We left off last video. This is what we saw. We had a logo dropped into the header. That's what you're seeing right now. And now we're going to do is jump in and add a slide to this'll theme. So we're gonna go ahead and go back in the very, very top left. It says, Header, I'm gonna click on the back button and now we're gonna jump into the slide show. Now, just a quick disclaimer. Depending on the theme you've selected, it might look a little bit different. Your options might be in a different place, but for the most part, this is the ballpark what you're looking for. So we're gonna jump into the slide show option here in the venture theme And before we even get started, you can see we've got some different base options here. But if I want to learn more about the slideshow guidelines, if I click on this link, it's gonna show me exactly what this specific theme expects when it comes to the images. So you can just throw something up there and it says that it's slideshow is responsive, which means it'll cropper images dynamically, depending on the device and etcetera etcetera. However, it says that they recommend the size is 1800 pixels by 1000 pixels, so that's really important. Like I said in most current Web designer or Web design software, we don't even call it. They automatically crop and re size, and they do a lot of heavy lifting for you, especially with so many different device settings, different sizes, different screen sizes. Are you on a mobile device on a desktop? So usually we throw images in there that are big enough that as they get resized, it just works on all the platforms. Way back in the day, we had to actually crop them to be specific, and he tried to compress him and make him really tiny. We're still going to do some of that, but now you don't have to worry about it quite so much because Shopify is gonna do most of the heavy lifting. All right, so it's going to go back into this slide area, and you can change them setting whether it automatically rotates or how long it sits on a slide before it changes. And then the content is right here. So currently, this slide only has two slides in it. I can click add slide to add another slide. Or I can click a little twirl down here to go through and change settings. Or I can go home over, come over here and grab these and just rearrange um so pretty basic from here, it's just a matter of dropping in your image and getting it set up, so we're gonna show you two ways. The first is if you don't have an image how to find an image in the second way, I'm gonna go ahead and create my own image to drop in their real quick. All right, So I clicked on the twirl down. I'm gonna come to explore free images and we'll click on this and you can see they've already collected a Thanh of images. So depending on what you're creating, you might not need to create anything. Let's go and click right here on this tech folder. So if you have all kinds of images of tech, you know, and maybe for me, if I'm trying to sell stuff about ah Web design or graphic design or whatever. You know, some of these images. Maybe this guy coating right here. Maybe that works. So well, go ahead and click that all hit select. And just like that, my slide now has an image in it. Okay, so the image position, depending on where the action in the photo, are the focus. The focal point is you might want to change where it pins this to the slide. So if I go top left, the top left of the photo will be always where it pins. And then depending on where screen is, it's going to crop out the rest of the fellow now. Okay, So that's important, depending on what you have in your image, how you end up selecting where the image position is. Okay, about are heading so we could change our text right here. If I changes to, you know, learn how to code or something like that, have you All course is okay. And then I can add a link. This is something we'll get into more later. But this is where you would add a link. So that way, when they click on this, it would take them either to that page or that custom link that you created or I can remove the content. Okay, so those are your options here in this slide, I'm glad and closes twirl down. Now let's say you want to create something custom and you'll notice that we didn't crop that photo. It also Shopify is doing all the heavy lifting. Now let's say that we want to be very specific on how we create this. So let's come back over here to our settings. We see that we've got 1800 pixels by 1000 so I'm just gonna jump into photo shop because that's what I'm comfortable with. I can do one of a couple things. I can create a new document. And again, if you're in any photo editing software, you should be able to do something like this. I want to do 1800 pixels wide by 1000 pixels tall resolution. You know, this is something where I would typically put it at 72 but then that's dots per inch on your screen. But because you've got some of the high density screens and the, um, retina displays and all that kind of stuff, sometimes I double that. Make it 144 pixels per inch. I'll click create. And this, in theory, is the exact size that this theme expects to have the best results. So what I can do now is I could take this image that I actually took us for my drone in Washington. I can click and drag this image hover over my new document. Photoshopped, come back down here, pull down the shift key and drop it right in there. And I know some of you who are designers. Maybe your mind just exploded. But, um, the point is, I'm just trying to get this to be the right size and I could start adding layers. I could add text or I could do different things. I don't want to get too crazy with this right now, but let's say you wanted Thio was gonna get a brush. Simple brush and ah, let's go out and sample color here. From this dark part of the image, you go back to my brush, I'll make it a little bit bigger. I got my pass it down to 40% my floor 100% and I'm using the keystrokes on my keyboard to change the size. And I'm just gonna kind of paint in here a little bit, just kind of burn the edges. The only reason why I'm doing this right now, guys, is maybe this will help that text kind of standoff the image a little bit from that slide. Okay. Ah, you could do a lot of different things here. I'm gonna change my blend mode to multiply. And maybe that's a little too much. So scrubbed this back. And then I know I'm flying through this, you guys, But this is my work flow. This is hide. Create something just a little bit custom, you know, maybe throw some text on top of here. Whatever. I'm not gonna over think it. Um Let's go ahead and save this as slide to, and I'll just throw it right in my shop if I folder, okay. And then we're gonna export this. So I use the shortcut, which is command option shift and save to save for web, which is the same is going to file export, actually, where is that export safer web. Okay, so this is an old school way of doing it. You can also do an export as and I realize I'm quickly, quickly getting away from the Shopify site of things. This is the graphic designer on the Web designer and me coming out right now, so I need to kind of tone it back and I'm sorry for that. But let's just go ahead and finish his real quick to throw this in there. Eso Right now this is a 875 kilobyte image. So what I would do is probably back this down to about 70% or so because it's still very big. We doubled the pixels per inch at sever the DP I it at 1 44 So it's still going to be a pretty high quality image. And you see, this is still at 305 kilobytes. I I had to keep it between about 200 at most about 400 kilobytes, so that when people come to the website, if it's the very first image that loads, it's not thinking about it. And I know the Internets faster these days, and it's not as big of a deal, but you still want your site to behave quickly so that way, when visitors come and check it out, they're not waiting for things to load. OK, somebody click. Save. I was gonna call a slide to I just throw my Shopify folder right now Click Save. And now I can come back into this slide area. So now we're back on the second slide. I'm a click click Select image. We'll click on the upload button, come back to my folder, grab that J Peg I just made and I will throw it in there. Okay, so now that slide is in there and maybe I want this to be aligned. Let's go and hit Select. So right now, you can see what kind of burn the edges to kind of help it stand off here, and it really wasn't necessary. But again, I'm just kind of showing you some different workflow ideas. So right now it's centered to the middle center, so the middle center will always be where it pins it. But I could changes to bottom center. So now the bottom edge will always be what shows up first. So if I scrubbed this up, let's see if it I might need to say that first, Uh, anyway, it should reposition based on the bottom of the image. So that's how you create custom images for your slide and Shopify or how you create or add images from their free image library. So I hope that helps. I know I went a little bit nerdy on you in the middle there with the photo shop images and stuff, so hopefully I didn't lose you again. If you have questions, please let me know. But I really hope that gives you an idea of what's possible on how you can approach creating your slider and your home page images. And again, if we look at this real quick, let me, uh, let me just bounce back real quick too. The very the home, the dashboard of Shopify. I'm gonna click view my store right up here and this will open it up into a separate windows were not seeing all that editor stuff show up. You see, it takes a second for this image, so that's interesting. So the image that Shopify brought in took a while to load causes a really high, um or big file, I guess you could say right. So if I swapped to this image that we created all. Bet if I flip flop, these two where this one loaded first, all but it would load really fast because we actually compressed it in photo shop before we exported it. So you'll notice when we preview it. Took it a minute toe load that So anyway, that's That's the approach and you'll notice by simply throwing in the logo and then throwing in this image here that I use on a lot of my branding. It goes a long ways and looking like my brand without having to do hardly any work, right? So that's why I take this approach when I build websites is because it's a quick win for me . If I want to show a client what I'm up to, like all of a sudden, I can say, Yeah, we're editing this and whatever, but, you know, we're getting close, right? But really, this took me If I wasn't recording a tutorial that took me like, you know, 10 minutes. So all right, I'm gonna wrap this one up, and in the next video, we're gonna start looking at style izing mawr of the theme, and we'll start adding pages and flushing this thing out 8. Adding Pages: All right, guys. Hopefully you're still with me in the last. Actually, couple videos from the logo design and the slider image kind of went super nerdy on you, and we dove into some of the more difficult things. For those of you who may be this is your first first time with this kind of stuff way maybe Should have started this video first. But I know you guys are smart and can figure it out. So that's why I saved this. We dove in with the fun stuff, the styling stuff, the stuff that makes it look like your brand as quickly as possible. Now we're gonna go. Adds more pages, right? So we're gonna dump friend a dump. We're gonna jump right in to our Shopify dashboard. Gonna come to our sales channel. We're down here in themes right now. We're gonna come down a couple and you'll see we've got pages, So we're gonna click on this, and we're just gonna quickly added a couple pages to the site. So what? We're gonna do big blue button says add Page. I told you guys, we probably should have started with this. First, it's gonna be super simple that just making about Paige. Call it about and I'll say this page is all about me. Actually, I'm gonna make it really easy on myself. I've already done this once, so I'm gonna come to my current website, click on my about page. And if you have a client working with or you know, uh, somebody else already has this text, hopefully you have something you just copy and paste. They were Gol hit return. I'll jump back over, grab some of my bio. Ah, Rio. Copy that. Come back over here and paste it and you notice as I copy and paste it brought over the styling by default. If you don't like what that's doing, you can hit the shortcut. Let me let me step back a couple things here. Let's say I didn't want to be bold like that. So I'm gonna hit command shift the Nope. Command option shift the There we go. Command option shift V will paste and match style. So you should be able to do that on PC as well. But what that does, instead of bringing over the styling from whatever you copied from it will match it'll. It'll clear those styles, and it'll match the style where you're pasting it in. And this should work in word in pages when you're pasting stuff into maybe a WordPress site or in this case, we're in Shopify like that's a general computer shortcut that command option shift V. It'll paste and match style. If you don't see that, maybe appear under edit. There it is. Command shift V is what it is here. So maybe my shortcuts are little different cause I have some different plug ins in the background. But if you go to edit paste in your menu area, you can see what the shortcut should be on your system. All right, so hopefully that works for you. If not comment below. For those of you who may be figured out on the PC side of things, I'd love to have make sure everybody's on the same page. So now that I stepped backwards, I got to do this work again. We'll just do it real quick. Copy this. Paste it return. We'll copy this. Paste it. I'm saying command V on a pee on a Mac control Vienna PC. All right, so there's my about text and maybe I want to add an image. So I'm gonna be kind of lazy about this one of a couple ways I could take this image. This is my WordPress site and click and great to the desktop. There we go. And it brought that J peg over, or I could right click save image as I'm gonna throw it on my desktop road Quick again. This is me working fast and lazy. Ah, you should probably save these end of the folders you're working with within your project file. So that way where you can find it later when you have to make edits. Ah, but, you know, sometimes fast and loose is the way to go when it comes to designing stuff because you had to get stuff done for a deadline. So I'm gonna go ahead. I don't know if this will work this way. I've never tried it. Ah, didn't work. OK, so where to click on the little? I was trying to drag and drop it in there. I'm gonna click on the little insert image and we're going to upload images who I can use in the U. R. L two. So you could also come over here. Right. Click, copy, image address. Come back over here and paste. Now, when I insert image, it's gonna bring that image from the U R L So if you want to scrape images from other places on the web All right, so now I threw that image in their It looks huge. We're gonna leave it for now. But you could resize it if you wanted to. Just click and drag there. All right? And then Ah, that's pretty much it. Aiken, schedule this. Select a specific published date. I can make it hidden and added later. Ah, I can edit my website s CEO, which is great. This is what it's gonna look like in Google. So I might want to come in here and make those changes. But for now, I'm just gonna hit save and let's see what happens. All right, Now, if I view the page, there's my about page. All right, So one thing those of you might have other experience with other image editors, our website editors, or, in my case, if I come over to my current website with with Shopify. If you don't have any coding experience, you can see that some of these page layouts are very, very, very, very basic, right? So they're not designed to add different, you know, um, different animations and things like that. So that's where you might want to look back at those themes at the beginning of this course and maybe spend more money to buy one that does more what you're looking for. Uh, when I first started my career, I was really picky about how I designed my pages that started photo shop and customized everything. And then I realized over time my clients didn't care. They would rather have the site up selling with content versus having it be justice, amazingly beautiful thing, and they spent thousands of dollars to do it. They just want it done quick. So as much as this pains my heart as a graphic, his Heiner like this page is not. Oh, it's just dry is just right. But but not that Nobody cares because I do care. But, ah, the content is important, and getting the website don is important. So man, that hurts to say out loud, but that's when it comes to creating. Your pages will just throw this up there real quick. And that is how you make a page and Shopify. So in the next lesson, what we're gonna do is actually you'll notice that this page, you know, we created it is not actually in the navigation yet. So we need to add this to the navigation. And then I'm also going to show you how to create a custom contact page that will have the contact form and things like that, so stay tuned for the next lessons. 9. Create a Custom Contact Page: Okay, So in this video, we're going to create a custom contact page. The difference in this page compared to the previous lesson which made a regular page, is a custom contact Page is gonna have a contact form that your visitor can fill out, and it will send you an email. So let's go and dive into a quick It's super basic, really straightforward. And Shopify does all the heavy lifting for you. So gonna jump over here in two pages and we have this about page that we just made. We're gonna go ahead and click the big blue add page button up here at the top, and this time the difference between a regular page and they contact pages. If I come down here over on the right hand side. I see this box is his template. So depending on your theme, depending on where you've started or if you're working with custom theme that you've done some development to, you'll have some different template options. So in this case, right now, about my regular page template, that's how we made the about page or I've got my contact page template. All right, so again, different themes will have different page templates. This one only has the two different templates. So what this will do if I jump in here and let's let's just give us a title of contact and , you know, maybe he will do. Say, say hello, Oops, area. So hello in the text box and we could add some images or insert video or whatever you want to do here. We could do some cool stuff there, but that's really all the options we have. I'm gonna go ahead and hit save, because until I hit save. I don't have an option to preview what that's gonna look like once I save it. Now you can click View page. They were goat. This is our contact page. So it says, Say hello. So this first box is the template area for us to add whatever we want ad there and then by changing this to the contact template it throws in this contact form. All right, so styling this is out of the scope of this specific video. But that's how you would get up and running with your contact page like you would expect. So the other thing you want to know is when this emails it's gonna email the default email address that you have set up in your system. And if you want to change that, you come back in here to your dashboard. Daniel on the very bottom left, we have settings. I'm gonna click on General and in your store details. Right here is where you can change your account email. That's for things that of Shopify needs to contact you or your customer email. That's the email address that your customers will see. So when they send out the email to this contact form, the reply to Field will have that email. So that's how you would change who that goes to and what the customers see hopefully helps you out. And in the next video, we're going to go ahead and add both this customer or I'm sorry, this contact page and the about page to our navigation 10. Setting up your Menu: Alright, guys, in this lesson, we're gonna take a look at how to add those new pages that we created into our navigation for the website. So let's go ahead and dive in right here under sales channels. We've got our online store. We've been working in our themes. We've added pages and there's this link right below it called Navigation. So I'm gonna click on that and you'll notice that this specific theme has two menus. We can add. Menus weaken, turn them on and off. But for right now, what I want to pay attention to is this main menu area. So currently it has home and catalog. And if I click on the main menu title, I can see that I have the option here to add a menu item. So it's really straightforward, super simple to use. I'm gonna click on this plus button here, and I can name this link whatever I wanted to be. So let's add an about page and I want to say about us because it sounds weird, since it's just a singular site for myself, not multiple people. So I'm gonna hit type in the word about Roe quick, I could say about me if I wanted to. Uh, I could say about Derrick. Whatever. It doesn't matter. That's just gonna be the title of the link. When we throw it in, I'm gonna click here on the link box. I can paste in the link if I wanted to be to an external site or I can click on it and it gives me the option to select anything from within. Ah Shopify itself. So we want to add a page here. Click on that. I'm gonna click and add the about page because it's the about page name that I'm adding or click add. It throws it right in there. And now let's add our contact page as well, and I could make it creative. Say something like, Say, Hello, groups. Here we go. Let's go back and find that page and let's throw that contact in there. So now you can see the link goes to the contact page, but the word or the the yeah, the words that go into the navigation is going to say, Say hello. I'll click. Add. I'll save my menu real quick. And now let's preview what that did. If I refresh this page here speculating on the home page. You can see it added those titles and those pages to my website. So the pages were always on. If somebody had the link up here, those would actually work even without the navigation being up here so you could have pages that people don't know exist. And you could send them out as direct links to be email or whatever you want to dio, and nobody would be able to find them unless they have that exact link. But if you want them to find it, then you've got to add that to navigation. OK, so unless and while do an external link, I'm gonna go ahead and open up my website and I'm gonna go to, let's say, my courses here. So let's say I want to link straight to this from my Shopify account. So I'm gonna highlight this entire Earl, including the https, because we want the whole link, not just the www part command, see on a Mac or control CNPC to copy that. Let's jump back over to our link. We're gonna add the menu item. This time I'm gonna say courses. And this time I'm gonna paste straight up the link in the box. Okay, I'll click. Add All right. I was trying to show you something, and it did something weird that I hadn't really thought about until I was trying to teach you. So let me show you something real quick. So when I click add this menu and I wanted to add my courses. Page and I went to paste the link directly in here. So I just commanded me to paste it. If I just left it like that and clicked Add, give me this air. Right. So if I paste it again and this time instead of clicking, add if I actually physically click right up here, I don't know why it throws it in as a link. And now if I click, add it saved it. So a little bit of a cork there. I'm not sure. Um, sorry. Kind of coming off guard, but hope that makes sense for you, but just paste it in there. And then I clicked on the link instead. And then that way it accepted the change. So now if I come over here and save this menu and I jump back into my store and I reload that page. The courses tab is now up here. So if I click on all of these, these 1st 4 links keeps me on the actual Shopify domain. If I click on the courses, link redirects to my courses website. All right, so that's how you could add an external link to your main navigation. All right, so now let's talk about nesting and sub menus. So if I want to make this fall underneath a specific category, all I've got to do is click and drag, and I can reposition this. So now, by clicking and dragging in nesting knees if I hit save my say hello or my contact page will be nested underneath my about page, and my courses paid will be nested underneath that. So let's go ahead and see if that worked like I wanted it to you. Well, Jim, back over here and refresh the page, and now I've got a drop down menu under about where my say hello, Paige lives, And if I click on that, I've got my courses page. So that's how you could create your sub menu items and your navigation in Shopify 11. Modifying Theme Fonts and Colors: thin this lesson. I want to talk about how to modify your themes, fonts and colors. So we've already added a custom logo. We've added pages. We've added a home page hero image or a slider. And what that does that made feel a lot like the brand. It was cohesive, right? So by doing the minimum amount of effort, we had a look much different than just a template ID theme. So I'm gonna push that even further by modifying our fonts and some themes setting. So one thing I do want to point out is that depending on the theme that you pick and if you've done any customization is under the hood with, you know, CSS or other coding down the road, this might be different than what you're actually looking at. So let's go ahead and dive in first by just getting to the themes, customization settings, and then I'll show you some documentation that will help you just in case there's some other things you want to do that I don't cover in this course. So we're in our home page, our honor and our dashboard for Shopify. We're gonna come over here to themes and now under the venture theme, which is what I currently have installed, and again, you might have something totally different. I'm gonna click on the customized button, which that should always be there, no matter what theme you've selected. Once that's open, appear in the top left. We have sections, which is what's editing the actual sections within that page that you're on. But right next to it, we have the themes settings, So I'm gonna click on that. And this is where you would modify your global themes, settings everything from colors, typography, the collection page, which is basically how your products are displayed. Social media links your fat icon and check out page. So we also have this change theme style. If I click on this, depending on the theme that you've selected, you might have separate like sub styles within that. So, for example, remember, I chose the Snowboards theme under the or style under the venture theme, but there was also outdoors and boxing. So if I click on these, it's going to change some elements within the main venture theme. But I don't want to do that right now. I'm gonna click X up here to close that. And then this is what I was talking about right here. This read documentation. So if again, if I'm getting into things that you want to learn something different, or maybe it's confusing and you want to really delve down and learn more about it, you can click on the re documentation. It's gonna open up a link that's specific to the theme that you have selected. So it'll take you to the shop if I help center and you'll see about me right to my adventure theme. So if I come down here, there's all the other theme support as well. But within the venture theme, this tells me this is ideal. If I have more than 50 products or five or more collections, or if I have large menus and then as I scroll through, it will show me everything that I pretty much would want to know about the venture themes specifically So again, as I dive into this, if you're looking for something specific, definitely check out the Shopify help documentation, and that's another reason why, and we don't really get into this much of the beginning of this course, But that's another reason why Shopify might be a great choice for you over say WordPress, because Shopify has a team of people who can help you and the themes air pretty standard. So if you get lost, the documentation is very clear. All right, so now that we've got that out of the way, we're gonna come back to our theme settings, and we're just going to start by changing colors and typography. Now, this is pretty much point and click, like guaranteed. You shouldn't have any problem figuring out how to change colors. So rather than spending time on the how to change the colors or how to change the fonts and typography for my specific theme, I'm going to show you, from my perspective as a designer, how I would work like my work flow in this specific to making it match other things. So let's say you designed your your style guide or a wire frame in photo shop or, in my case, already have another website that I want this to kind of match. How would you go about making it matched? And so that's what we're gonna do in this lesson. All right, so I want to dive back into the colors and you can see that I've got my page links there, This blue color I'd call it kind of a royal blue about my slideshow titles that this right here tough the blue background. Well, if I jump into my personal brand, it's like that saying, Where's the shoemaker? The cobbler has no shoes or something that Anyway, the point is for somebody who does branding for a living All my clients brands are amazing . Ah, but my own brand is a little bit all over the place. So for my courses, you can see that I have followed all this. You know that stylistically, they all kind of look about the same with the slate blue color. And you know this this brighter pop right here blue and yellow and orange. So that's my courses side of things. But if I go to my actual home page, my landing page has got a photo of me. Uh, you know about the products here, but this blue doesn't really match the other shades of blue that we've got going on here to you, whatever you call that. And if I go to my YouTube channel. I've got this drone shot with my signature. So the signature carries over my logo kind of carries over, but my brand is a little bit all over the place. And then if I look at my thumbnails, I've got some for tutorials and I've got some from the drone footage. So basically all of that to say as you approach your projects style izing theme and your fonts and your colors, it becomes really important to pick something in to stick with it. Okay, so what I've started to do if I go into Photoshopped photo shop actually lets you create libraries that sink across the creative cloud across all of the apse. So I've got a project folding here where my colors all stay the same. So whenever I can, I use the same colors on everything. If you don't have this another great tool, cause right now what I could do is I could get my eyedropper tool, and I could just select a color from any image and sample that. But if you don't have that, a great app that I like to use is called sip spelled s I P. Okay. And so you can look that up, google it and find it. And what it lets me do is I can click on the sip icon, click right here at the top, and I can sample a color from literally any pixels on my screen, wherever it is. Okay, so I can even sample right here from this and what's cool about it tells me that color's name and it immediately copies that hex values So that hashtag and then the six digits after it that tells, um, the computer Exactly what color to display. So by copying that, I think I'm gonna make all my links this green or what Did they once it name it names that , uh, medium aqua Marine for being very specific. So we take this medium aqua marine color, we're gonna jump back over here into my Shopify store. And I want that color to match because if I go to my courses on, let's say, like any, any of these, really? You see that? I got my play buttons and my purchase buttons are all that green color, the Aqua Marine. And so I want it all to match. I want to feel like it belongs together since its might, since my store is going to sell products that relate to this side of my business. So I'm gonna jump over here and we'll change our link color. So I'm just gonna highlight this hex value and hit command V or Control be on a PC because I already copied it using the sip app, and there's lots of other ways you can grab colors. But right now, this is just This is my work flow. So my slideshow titles, I'm gonna click on that. I scrolled down and will change this hex value to the one that I copied using Sip. All right. And the man had save, and now it changed the background color. In theory, it's not showing up, so maybe this is stylized somewhere else. Or maybe my computer is just not refreshing. So I come down here, you see that, uh, that link has changed that Alcoa marine color. Let's see what else we are. Header background. So maybe my header background. Let's go back and look at some other things. So right now I've got this. I think it's called, like a slate color. I'm gonna grab my sip color sample. Maybe it's Cape Cod. I think I did this before. I'm gonna sample this color right here. It's called Riverbed. Okay, whatever. So, uh, fancy color names anyway, so I copied that hex value already, and I also have that color over here. I could copy that from photo shop. I'm just trying to show you guys different ways to work and how I approach sampling colors and making it all match. All right, so let's changes. Header background. Gonna pace that in here. So now this feels more like my brand. My products? What else do we have here? Heading tax body taxed so I would base it. Okay, let's footer. Background. Let's change that from being There's a dark black color to color. I sampled again. Trying to make everything match will save it up here, and they must be a cashing issue. Let's just go ahead and I'm gonna go back. Since you don't have it open, I don't. I'm gonna come back to my dashboard and I'm gonna click on the view, my store. So that changed up here. I like that a lot better. It matches the fade out effect on this photo. The link the hover states right here. The active page states have the color that I changed it to. The footer still isn't the right background, so let's just go back in. And rather than showing you the exact process for this specific theme like guaranteed, you guys are gonna pick different themes. So this it's more important for you to understand the process and how you find things, because this stuff is going to be nested and buried. You're gonna need to read the documentation sometimes, and I'd love to walk you through it every single step of the way so you can do this but part of becoming a Web developer. If that's the track, your on is learning how to problem solve, so it just just back and forth. It's just it's just refining everything to things like Clay, like you're massaging it into place and you're trying to get it to look just like you want it to. So that's where having maybe a pre designed template and photo shop is nice or in my case, I'm kind of borrowing from my website that I've already made because then I kind of have a road map of what I'm trying to get to. So that way, when I get distracted about like in this case, let's say I'm going back to the foot and I'm like, Well, why isn't the footer dark? And I like it focused on that. It could be really easy to get distracted and forget what you were trying to change. So again, that's why I'm using my current website as a road map. But for you, if you don't have a current website, you know, try and find a brand guideline or identity package guideline or another website. You're trying to make it look kind of, um, kind of like so, hoping that makes sense. I know im rambling, but again, I'm just trying to show you guys really world practical applications on how I approach this . So all right, I'll screw it down to the foot or menu. I don't see it in here. Let's, um, I'm a click down here and flutter. So instead of going under the theme settings, I'm under sections. Gonna come down here to the foot and just see what options it gives me my foot or menu themes. Settings will click on that. All right, So this just to add some more social media icons to my theme, I'm gonna come back here to my main theme settings. Let's go back to colors and try that again. Maybe it is just didn't stick. I'm gonna click on this. We're gonna pace that hex value again. There we go. And it changed immediately. Okay, So something weird on my computer, But again, that's just part of the process, trying to figure out how that works. So that's how I would approach solving. The problem is, you just kind of click around and refresh and try and figure out, you know, Why didn't stick. Same thing with my slide show title. See, I changed it. I know I did. But there's just something weird going on. And maybe it's my browser. Maybe it's chrome. You know, Maybe I should try and safari. Or if you're on on, um, you know, PC trying a different browser for that as well. So I clicked on it. I changed it. It still didn't change my title. I'm not sure why, So I'm going to reload my whole page. And when you go to themes, settings again, I'm gonna go to my colors again. Come down here to slide shows title and guys, Honestly, I've never seen this before as I've been working on Shopify site. So I don't know if it's, ah, some fluke and I need to restart my computer or if it's a browser issue, or maybe Shopify as some sort of thing going on the back end. You just never know. So, uh, the one thing that I would say is, as you guys build websites, you just you just gotta tinker and you just gotta push buttons and try things. So that looks a lot better. That actually matches. And I might leave it that way compared to the bright aqua marine color we talked about. Um, So anyway, that's my approach to changing colors on my themes. Now I want to show you as far as the typography goes, how I can make this look more like my sights theme. So right now we can see the font that I'm using, and if you don't know what font it is, there's a really cool plug in called What Fought. So if I go, Teoh just searched and I'll just search for what font extension and whatever browser you're choosing and should be the first thing that pulls up and it's an extension you add to your browser called What font and what You Can Do With It Once it's installed, just click install Button is then go to any website and click on the what font icon. And now, as I hover over any text on any website, it will tell me exactly what it is. And if I click on that, it'll tummy. Here's the font family, this style, the weight, the size, the line height, the color literally everything you need to know. So now I need to Dok, this is Roboto 16 pixels, 22 pixels height and it's white and it's just the normal weight. All right, so what I can do now is jump back over into my styling. I'm gonna go my font family and my body text and my navigation of buttons. Let's just go ahead and jump into. I will change this. I'm gonna search for Roboto and because it's a Google font, it actually finds it. If you something custom, you're gonna be out of luck. But anyway, I can add this font and select it my weight is regular. And now that changed. That navigation menu actually don't like that right now. It's pretty big, so I'm gonna not commit that change. Um, all right there changed it back. So let's go back to the body text in the navigation. So I'm gonna click change on that. And again, this is just a little bit of, like, trial and error just trying, you know, trying things out. And that's where you could spend a lot of time trying to figure out what you like and what you don't like. All right, I'm gonna hit Select. So now my navigation font is that Roboto and I'm gonna turn off spacing the letters. I'm gonna turn off, capitalization, because that way, it will look more like this here. We'll come back over here, and I know it's 16 pixels, not 14. So that'll make that a little bit bigger. And, uh, let's see, that's hit in the right direction. So there's obviously more things we can do. But now again, this website looks a lot more like my other website. So that is how I approach alone would net say before I forget. That's how I approach styling my theme, adding colors, changing phones and things like that and how I bridge the two between something that might already be living as a real brand somewhere else, whether it's brochures or things like that. And applying those looks to my Shopify site, all right, hopefully learned a ton. If you have any questions or need any clarification, please set me up at those questions down below and thanks for watching. 12. Setting up Collections (Categories): thin this lesson. We're gonna talk about how to set up collections for your store. All the collection is is setting up categories for all of your products to have a place to live. And this is really important because you want your customers to be able to find all the things that they're looking for without getting lost or confused. So what we're gonna do for those of you want me to get right to the point, I'm gonna show you how to set up collections and Shopify It's really straightforward. And then we're going to circle back and take a look at some other online stores and see how they set up their collections. So first, we're gonna goto our Shopify dashboard. We're gonna come under products here in the sidebar will go down to collections, and you can see by default. I already have a home page collection set up for when we turned on the shop. If I store, this is a default collection and I could use this and add products to this. But I'm gonna go ahead and create another collection. It's real simple. We'll click on that blue button at the top here we'll give this collection the title. I'll just call it a peril. I could give it a description in this case. I'll leave it blank because it's optional and I don't need it down the road. I'll come back and I'll add a collection image to kind of spruce up my store. But for now, I'm gonna leave this alone. I'll change my collection type from automated to manual, and that way I have to manually add whatever products I want to this collection for them to show up. Otherwise, if I had it on automated, I can have it match certain conditions. So if my product has the tag and let's say maybe the tag is called new, then all of my new products would come into this collection. But for now, we're just gonna leave us is manual. I'll click, Save. And now, if I come back to my collections, I've got my apparel collection and I've got my home page collection. I'm gonna make one more collection, will click on the create collection button, this one I'll call new. So if I have new products, I could call the new products or a new merchandise or whatever you want to call it, but for this for this lesson, we're gonna call it new. I'm gonna make this one automated. And whenever the product tag is equal to new, that product will automatically be added into this collection, and I could make thes conditions more complex. I can say if all of these conditions are met. So if I click on add another condition, I can say product condition or product tag is equal to you. You know, I could give it another tag where I could say product title or type or vendor or price. We have weight inventory stock, very entitled Compare it price Oregon, say any conditions. So if any one of these, it doesn't have to be all of them. If any one of these conditions is met, then that product will get added to my collection here. So I hope that makes sense. Really straightforward. I'm gonna go ahead and save my new collection. And now, when I come back to my main collections tab, we have a new collection. We have an apparel collection and we have a home page collection. Now what I'm gonna do in the next videos, we're gonna actually start adding products and putting them into these collections. But before we do, I want to take a minute and have you think about what collections you'd want for your store . Or if you're working with a client, try and be very clear about what your client's gonna want for their store. So as an example, if I come over here to Nike dot com, depending on which part of the world your from your probably calling it Nike. So it's Nike dot com or Nike dot com. Whatever you wanna call it, you can see that they have these main categories across the top. So we have new releases. We have men, women, kids customize and back to school. And one thing I want you to see about this back to school collection. Or you could call it a category is that in your store? Maybe you wanna have a different collection based on different seasons, so maybe it's Christmas. Or maybe it's New years. Or maybe it's summer or, in this case, back to school, so you can create custom collections that will go along with different sales and promotions you might be having once we get under any one of these collections or categories. For example, under the men category, I have shoes, I have clothing, I have accessories and equipment, and I have all kinds of different collections over here as well. Now, this is a pretty extreme example of all the different categories and collections that would be available. And if I were to go look at some other Shopify websites and I found this one by searching for some of the best Shopify sites, and I found a post on over low overload, by the way, is a drop shipping application we're gonna talk about in a little bit. But this is going to be something we're going to circle back to, and I'll show you how to use overload to add products to your site. But for now, I just wanted to show you they do have an inspiring and successful Shopify blawg post, where they have a ton of different links. And that's where I found the shop of high sites that also are using the same collection set up we're using. So you can see that this helm boots dot com probably started out with just boots, so they have their main footwear collection. They've got all styles, new arrivals, all boots, shoes and resold. And then you can see that they've started a branch out and have added more products to their site. So now they've got the supply tab, and under there there's leather care belts, socks and laces, hats and T shirts, accessories, gift cards. And then, of course, a sale tab. So any products are on sale would be put into this collection. So now I'm gonna jump over to just a couple more. Stores were quick. We've got one here that is a sunglass store, and they have basically one tab that shop that has all of their featured products and then collections, which has the basic brand or style collections that they work with. Here's one more example. It's a furniture store. They've got furniture, lighting, accessories, brands and clearance. And then their sub collections under furniture, for example, would be chairs, loungers and easy chairs, stools, benches, sofas, etcetera. OK, And then my last example for you to think about and consider is this nick mayor art dot com , and the reason why I show you this is because as an artist, he's selling prints, and he's got some different things, such as prints and cards. Also some apparel and functional art. So this is an interesting example of other ways that or maybe not as traditional for different collections that you could set up for your store. So I hope that helps you think through how you want to organize and sort your website. It becomes very important, but at the same time, don't worry about it too much because you can always come back into your collections and add or delete any of them or change the names or anything. But do try and think through a little bit before you dive right in What kind of collections you want to make for your store and what's the most important flow for your customers in this case have gone through, and I've shown you some samples. So maybe take the time to find some of maybe your competitors and see how they set up their collections as well. Because what's gonna happen is if your customers are shopping their websites as well if they're already used to looking for things under a certain navigation menu. If you have your set up the same way chances are they're gonna be able to find products on your site much faster. So one more example of this would be the under armour website. So I had to do a Google search. I was just trying to make sure. But under Armour is not owned by Nike, but when you look at their in menu, it looks almost the same. There's very little difference. Under Nike, they've got new releases and then men, women and then kids under under armour goes right into men, women and then a set of kids. They have boys and girls separated out as a main item. If we jump back over here, they've got customized and back to school. And then also, under all of these categories of shoes, down, nested underneath her back on the Nike site, back toe under armour. They actually pull shoes out as a main option, because it must be, I'm guessing one of their top sellers and something one of the number one things that people come to their site to look for. So all of that to say, I know this with a longer video, and that's why I wanted to front load it with how to add a collection. It's really straightforward and Shopify, but I want you to think a little bit beyond just the categories and think about your customer and what that customer experience is gonna be. Alright. In the next couple of lessons, we're gonna talk about adding your products and we're gonna work with collections a little bit more, so stay tuned for more. 13. Adding a Simple Product: on. This isn't gonna learn how to manually add a product to your shop. If I store, it's really basic and straight forward, much like adding a simple page to your website with just a few variances. So we're gonna do is jump into the dashboard of our Shopify store, will come down to products into this product tab here. And if you haven't imported any products yet, you'll see this big blue button that says, Add product. So we'll click on that, and I'm gonna be adding a T shirt to my store. So what I'm gonna do is actually here is a folder of the different shirt. Options I have are to be adding all of these into this. It would be a variable product because we'd have product variations if you wanted to add a simple product. Let's say you only have one thing. There's no sizes or color variations. It's a simple product. So in this case, I'm just going to be adding this black T shirt, so jump in here and we'll call it the best things in life T shirt. And then what I'm gonna be doing for my description is I've already copied it from this American apparel website here under the details, if I was gonna be using this as my base, but you're gonna want to select whichever vendor you've used that way your description accurately describes the product, so I'll just paste that in here real quick. I don't believe some of this and clean it up there. Now I need to add an image so I can drop files to upload so I could simply drag and drop right into there and let go and upload that or could click the upload image button. And you know, both ways, air great. Whatever is faster for your workflow. So for pricing, the pricing is what you're actually going to be selling this item at. So the compare at price would be maybe what you regularly charge. So maybe you regularly charge $25 for this T shirt, but on your site today, maybe it's for sale for, let's say, $18 and then cost per item. You know, maybe you can source this. There's a handful of different places, which we'll talk about in a later lesson, but let's just say that each cost per item for you is let's just say $8 per garment, okay? And then as far as charging taxes on this product, this is something where I would uncheck this and I would let your store. You want your prices, I guess, to be as accurate as possible when someone looks at this. So we're gonna talk about adding free shipping as well as removing the charging taxes. But you'll still be responsible to pay your taxes on this. That's a whole nother topic. But this way your customers not surprised by additional charges during check out, which could cause you to lose sales. So that's what we're gonna do there. Under the inventory, you can keep your skew, which is your stock keeping unit or barcode. Both of these, in my case, I'm not going to be using these. My store is gonna be very small, But if it's gonna be a larger store, maybe you're working with somebody who uses QuickBooks or other tracking software where you have to have everything sync up together. You're gonna want to set up a skew number, your inventory policy. So shop fight currently tracks this products inventory. Or you could just say, don't track inventory and just let it be, you know, wide open. So if somebody buys 100 of them, they'll be able to buy 100 of them, even if you don't have any in stock. So at that point, you have to produce them. In this case, you could say shall fight tracks inventory. Let's just say I had five of these shirts that I wanted to sell. This is currently a physical product we're gonna want to use. Wait. So depending again on how we set up our store and this shipping settings, you can have it to where this doesn't matter, because you could just turn on free shipping and have that built into the cost of your garment or if you want more accurate about it, you can put the weight of the garment in here as well, or whatever the product is that you're shipping. Now I'm going to scroll back up, and I'm going to organize this and added to a collection. So in the previous video, we talked about collections, and right now I can click on this drop down, and it's going to see the current collections that I have of air available. So I've already made in apparel collection. So go ahead and add that to the apparel collection. And then I can also add tags. So currently, if I wanted to have us pull up in my new we made that new collection. I could just put new in here for a tag will click add new. I could also put in here let's say men or men's. We could add what else could be adding here, Maybe vintage so with tags. This is gonna come in handy if you want to have any automated collections. So at the same time, you don't have to have tags as long as you have collection set up where people can find the product you you could do without tags. So that's something where you want to spend a little bit of time looking at some other websites, just kind of seeing what is important to you and the products you're going to be selling and come up with your own taking strategy. So now what I can do is go ahead and hit, save, And just like that, I've got a new product in my store, and if I click the view button, I can see what the product landing page looks like, and you can see that we have the $25 struck out with the now sale price of $18. So that's because of how we set up that cost structure when we put in the pricing. Currently, we have the add to cart button and a buy with PayPal button and then down below. We have our product description. So that's the basics of adding a product manually within Shopify Tsuper. Straightforward. Now you can see we do have a couple more options and things that we want to set up here, but we'll get into those in the next lessons. 14. Adding a Variable Product: So in the last lesson, we learned how to manually add a simple product. And now in this video, what we're gonna do is actually go ahead and circle back through an ad variations. So I've got different shirt colors and text colors that I want to add to this single product. So what I'm gonna do is go ahead and come back into my product here and we have the best things in life T shirt and we have all of the description and the title all set up. We've added it to different collections, but now what we want to do is add different color variations. So one thing we're going to dio and one thing you could do before we get too far down the road. You can add images here. And let's just say we added, You know, the red shirt. I'll go and click open and let's go ahead and click on the view button and you'll see that I have to product photos. Well, now the problem is, if I do it that way, you can see real quick. There is no button to actually change size or color. So at this point, this would be more handy if you had photos of the front in the back or multiple photos of the same single product. So what we want to do is come back into this product and we want to scroll all the way down to the bottom towards his variants. So we're going to add a variant of this product because it has multiple versions like sizes or colors. So we'll click on the add varying but button and we'll come over here and on the size by default. Shopify assumes when you add a variant, it's gonna be the size so you could change the title of this. But right now we're just going to create a small medium large. Let's do X large and X X large. So you condone title these whatever you wanted, Teoh. Maybe just x x l or whatever. However, whatever makes sense to you doesn't really matter too much. So we've got those in there and I'm just hitting comma. After I typed out those words to separate those now I'm gonna do is actually add another option. So in this one, we've got color. So let me look at my colors. I have here. I have blue. I have read I have white with red text. I have white with blue text. It's almost black, dark, dark, blue And then we have the black shirt. So where it's gonna get a little tricky is describing where we've got two different white versions with different texts. So let's just kind of see what we can do here. So we're in separate with comma, so I'm gonna say Blue, actually, I want to make those title case, so I'm going to re type that Blu you capital B. We're gonna have a red version. We're going to have a white. I'm not sure what I want to do with that yet, So let me just think about that. So how blue, Red, White Black. I think for the sake of this tutorial and not confusing you or myself, I'm going to just do one of these versions. And I think I like this blue version better. So I'm just gonna delete this red version in my folder so I don't even confuse myself. There we go. That makes more sense. All right, now what we're gonna do is when you add a variant, you can see that you can come down at at a variant level. So let's say, the blue small shirts, Let's say pricing. You wanted to change him because there's less material. And let's say on the double Excel shirts, maybe you want to make it more expensive because they cost you more so you can actually go down and drill down into each variant and control exactly how much they cost or leave them all the same. Also here you'll notice inventory so we can control inventory on a per product level. What else is really cool? I'm gonna go and click. Save is we can add different images for each variant. So let's go and let this finish saving here for a second. And then I'm gonna come in once I save. I've got these little thumbnail options. So if I wanna have the blue color represented by a blue shirt, actually, let's see if we can ah, speed things up a little bit. I want at an image the blue shirt in there. I'm gonna add an image. We'll throw the ah, the white one in there. All right, so now all those air up in the gallery for this product, and now I can just simply click on it. All right, So this was the blue one will click Save. So now I'm gonna do is just continue on and adding a variant image for each one of these and you don't have to. It's just really handy. Let me show you what I mean when we say this image here. If I were to come back to view the product, it's really nice to know that if somebody chooses a red color shirt or a blue color shirt, the product image automatically updates. OK, so now let's say jump to a different size that I haven't updated yet. I say, You know the red one? Well, my product images update and now that could be confusing. So if you're going to go down this path, make sure you take the time to update every one of them. Otherwise, I would maybe just leave it with just the single image, and they can kind of figure it out by clicking over here on the side. But that's basically how you would add a variant or a variable product, so it's really straightforward. We have our images added and then we're going to go through and flush out all of the different variants and all of the different, um, details here. So one other thing before we go, if you need to bulk update these, you can click on this little check box here to select all variants. Or maybe just select, Let's say, just the blue ones. You need to do some sort of a change to maybe the or maybe, ah, maybe by size here, maybe all the small ones. I need to be a different price so I could click on that click edit variance and let's just say my smaller ones. I want to go to the pricing field and change him to, let's just say, $12 and then that way you can update all of these what it save. And now, when your visitor is back in the shop and they have a small T shirt selected, the pricing will actually change to self. I've got small here. It shows us $12. If I click on medium, it jumps up to $18. Now, a couple things that wanted to add to this lecture that I forgot when I was actually recording is a couple little things here in the variance menu. So, first and foremost, you can reorder variants. Now, what does that mean by default? It will go with, however you type them into the box. If I click on this, I had actually rearranged this for the sake of this video, but we started off with small, medium, large, extra large, extra extra large. Now let's just pretend that we typed out XXL first. I'll save that in here and you could see the rearranging. You just drag and drop when I come back over to my store. When I reload the page, you can see that the drop down menu starts with X X l first and then small, medium, large, extra large. So, you know, it would make more sense that if the first option was actually small, not double Excel. So coming back over here, we're gonna reorder my variants. I'm gonna rearrange this. So my ex ex l is the last one in line here. So it starts with small, medium, large, extra large and extra extra large. We'll click save will come back over my page and reload. And now we can see when I click on the twirl down, it starts with small and goes and gets bigger as we go through the options here. So that makes more sense. Based on you know what, Just basic logic. How you would expect that to be. Now, the next thing is, we can edit the option. So let's say that we no longer want to offer Double Excel. I can delete this here and then click. Yes, delete, And that will delete all of the XXL versions. I'm not going to do this right now because I actually took the time to set up all the images down here, But that's how you would remove the option. Let's say you wanted to add a different size here, so right now I'm only in the option to edit the option so I can basically rearrange these are I'm sorry. I basically delete the's where I can add another option all together. So, for example, you know, material. So maybe once cotton and one's a 50 50 blend or something. But right now, I'm not gonna do that. I'm going to cancel on these options here. I'm going. I'm going to add a variant instead. So come over here to add variant. And this is where I can add perhaps another size or another color and then change pricing whatever I want to do. And it's going to add that into my variant options. So we go back to product. Those are just a couple little things that I wanted to point out that you could go into actually manage your variants once you've got them set up. And here you can see that it took the time to go ahead and flush out the rest of my images Now. So when I go back to my store, no matter what size or what color I pick, the color will show up here. They're correct. Prodigal show up and last, all of these that put as zero inventory. So this button shows us sold out instead of having an option to buy. So just go back in. You know, if you've got the products, make sure that each variants here has the inventory in stocks or whatever inventory you have makes. You have all set up and you'll be good to go 15. How to Add a Buy Button to a Non-Shopify Site (Like WordPress): So what? You have products into your store, you can start adding all kinds of sales channels. So right now we talked about we have our online store sales channel, which, if you're gonna stay with this plan, it's a minimum of about $29 per month. But they did have that Shopify light version, and that just adds a buy button. So if we want to add a different sales channel, I'll click on the little plus button here. I'm gonna click the buy button. We'll add that to my sales channels on. What that's gonna let me do is create a button with code that I can paste into any website that I have. So I'll go ahead and click the create by a button button. I'm gonna select the product I want to make a button for, or I could select a collection and have all of the different collections that have featured . Right now I'm gonna go back to the products. I'll click on the shirt, and I changed my inborn inventory for this lesson toe. Have one of them in stock just so you could see how this is gonna play out. I'll click select product. And now what it's gonna do is give me the option for how my code is going to display on the other websites. So right now the temple that I have is the enhanced template so I can see the T shirt. I can see the variations and all of the details beside here. Or you. Could you just the basic template, or maybe just the button. If you wanted to stylized things yourself on the other website where we're going to be adding this as far as variants, you can show just one product that you want to show up. In this case is do these small blue because that's the one that I put it in stock. So you have just literally a button there or again. You could do the enhanced option here by changing the very into just that one variant. I don't get the option to choose here, but the gallery still does show up. And if I changes back to all variants again now, we get those options here on the side, all right, and then we can control the action on the click. Whether it adds to the cart or direct shoppers straight to the check out. We can change the alignment of things. Let's put this left center or right, but in style in text. So you can really drill down in here and make it match whatever, uh, site you're going to be putting this on. And when you get this set up, just however you want it to be good and click this generate code button up here in the top , right? And it's going to give you HT Mao that you can put into where we'd like this to g. O. So I'm just gonna click copy code to clipboards that I get everything without missing any characters. And then, in my actual personal website, a deck Mitchell dot com, I created a simple page. This is set up with WordPress and I use the salient WordPress theme so it does have a page builder and a lot of the cool things we could do. But because we have HTML code copied, we don't want to just paste this into this page. Builder actually want changes to the text mode, and now I can pace this and it worked. Retain all of those DIV characters and html and CSS that it needs to produce this in my page. Now if I go in and hit, update and preview my changes, you can see that I have a page at derek Mitchell dot com with a shirt or product rather that is being powered by Shopify, which is amazing, because now I've got all this functionality that if I was going to be doing something similar to this using woo commerce, I have to buy expensive plug ins and do lots of development, and which would be great cause it's a one time purchase. But I do love how seamless Shopify works across all of the, um, all of the different sales channels that they have. So over here in the sales channels, that's just one version right in our online store, just another version. But when we click on this again, we have all kinds of places where we can pull our products into to be featured. So when I jump back over here onto my website, you can see that I do have the option. When I pick an option, it's in stock to add to cart, and if I add this to cart, I can see, I already had one here when I was trying this out, but I could see about two products in my cart. I can add or remove them. I'm gonna go to check out. This is the only part of the process that you know, if I'm being honest, it might inhibit some of your sales because it has this pop up window. It still has Derek Mitchell store at the top, but it's not technically directly inside of my website, which, you know some people are kind of leery about. But when we look up here in the U. R. L, it does have the lock, and it does show that the connection is secure. It has a certificate and everything else you would expect when you're going to buy something online. So it's very, very slick, super cool that you can plug this right into any website, and that is how you can set up a buy now button and add an extra channel of places to sell your products using Shopify 16. Adding Apps: in this lesson. I want to introduce you to the Shopify App store to get there. We're gonna come from our home dashboard in the sidebar down to APS will click on that and then right away we see some recommended APS. But we're gonna go and click on the visit the Shopify App store button here on the top, right? And that's gonna take us to the Shopify app store. So this is a library of all kinds of APS that will extend the functionality of your website . So there's really a couple ways to look at this and the let's, let's say, three different ways. You've gotta categories here, so it'll group them into different things you want, such as finding products or maybe store design. So maybe there's a blawg app. You wanna add into this to extend the functionality of a blawg customer support? I mean, there's all kinds of categories naps. So definite Take the time to check this out. There's also collections, So launching your store, growing your business sales channels made by Shopify, Right? So check out all these collections in third way, simply just to scroll down. All right, so we've got our staff picks, which is kind of nice to see what they're thinking. You know what? What's the current? The new hotness, right where they want you to see. We've got recommended for you. So based on stories like the one that we're setting up these air some APS that they recommend, we check out, we've got trending app. So this is just absent air popular this month. Email marketing solutions made by Shopify. New and noteworthy. All right, so basically, you know, just kind of troll around and you'll see right away that there's a lot more that you can do with your shop if I store than you probably even at first imagine. So I You know, it's one of those things where take a minute to maybe write to hum paper what you're trying to have your store do and then guaranteed you can find a way to make that happened, especially once you start Ah, jumping into the app store here. So there's just in introduction. I encourage you to kick the tires kind of click on some things, the Tuapse that I want to show you right away that will get into in later lessons is over low. Some northern, the command Quim. Click on this to open in the new tab and then print full. Okay, So again, I'm hold on command and click on that sign. I've had two new tabs up here. So a brief introduction to overload, we're gonna get in his later. But basically, it's a It's an app that is now owned by Shopify and helps you put products into your store . So you add this to your site, you log in, and then you can pick any kind of product you can imagine. It'll automatically add the product, the cost, descriptions, everything you need, and it will even drop ship the product for you. So when a customer by something overload gets the notification, packages the product and ships straight to your customer and you take the difference, you take the profit of you know how much it cost versus how much actually charged your client. Now, the one thing that I would strongly say take a look at this before you get too committed. Check out these reviews and I would do this for any app. When you click on the reviews, just take a man to look at these one star reviews and just try and figure out why they got a one star. And if that's something that's gonna work for you and then, of course, the five star reviews and just kind of seeing, you know what about it is done really well. So again, I would no matter what your telling in life, whether it's just buying an app in the Apple store or IOS or, you know, we're android market wherever you're buying your stuff, I mean, everybody does does this, right? So, uh, that's something. Is soas faras overloads concerned? The one concern that kept kind of popping up is that because these air products being shipped from China often they take like, 20 to 30 days for shipping. So now where people are expected things to be shipped next day? Ah, same day, all that kind of stuff. You're gonna want to be very, very clear with your customers about the shipping time and turn around. So we're gonna talk about that later. Ah, but definitely a great app to check out for drop shipping and then the other one here, Look at us print full. And this is currently how I plan to fill my printing for the T shirts. I'm gonna be song on my website. So same deal. You know, this one's got actually even still got 4.6, but, uh, overload has a 4.7. So Devon takes to take a minute to read the reviews and just kind of check everything out. But the other thing I would do here is just watch these videos on these APS. Uh, this one didn't load for refreshment page. It should load, but basically, I watched a lot because I'm in the reviews. There we go back to the overload listing. So click on this. Just kind of get an idea of what these Tuapse do, because there's a very good chance these will be some apple to be adding to your shop If I store and then again just reiterating like it's nice to poke in here and just kind of see what the staff Pixar and to see what the trends are because there could be something new that's going Teoh, help your store do better and help you be more successful, sell more and have a better client experience all the way around So that is the Shopify App store. So take a minute here. Now, after this lecture and just kind of jump in here, poke around, see what's available and see what could be a good fit for you and your store. 17. Adding a Blog: in this lesson, I'm gonna show you how to add a blawg to your shop. If I e commerce store now, you're only going to see the option if you actually have the online store sales channel set up. So if you've done the Shopify light and you only have, like, a buy button or the messenger no, these points of sales, then you're not gonna be able to see the Abda Blawg feature because that's only going to be in this online store option. So once we're done with his lesson, you're gonna be able to see how to create a news feed like this, add it to your main navigation and then make it so it shows a featured image and your text . They want to take a one step further, and I'm gonna show you how to actually create a Hlinka ble product with in your blawg post . So it's kind of a great way if you have a new product that you want to give it a shoutout on your blogger, feature it and try and get more traffic that way as well. So here's how you would do that. First, we're gonna jump into our dashboard on Shopify will come down to our online sales channel and click on blawg posts. Now, the first time you click on this block post link, you pretty much only have the option to create a blogged post. But once you've created a post, then every other time you click on this button, you'll have the option to manage your blog's manage your posts and do a lot more. So we're just gonna get started by creating a blawg post. Just kind of see how we get into the rest of the odd these options. So we're going Teoh, call this. We're gonna jump in here and call this, um, new announcement are actually lists. Call it. Ah, check out our latest T shirt. All right, And then I'm going to copy and paste some filler taxes. Don't alarm to dot com Copied this just Greek filler tax. Just kind of get an idea of how this is gonna look. And then my featured image here. I've got my shirt options. I'm just gonna drag and drop this right into there as my featured image and them in at an excerpt, which is just a summary of the post So we're going to say, you know, our newest shirt design is now available. Check it out and then we can edit our website s CEO. We could do a lot more with it and then by default, The only blawg we have set up is a news blawg. So I could create a whole new blogged, give it a title like maybe portfolio are my blawg or whatever, but for now, we're just gonna leave it as this news Blawg. I'm the only author on the site. So we'll leave that alone and for tags For now, I'm just gonna again leave these tags alone. But you could use them to help organize your blawg. Then up here, I'm going to click on the visible button. Or you could, of course, said a specific published eight to schedule it for later on and hit save. So once that's saved, if I come back here and click on Blawg posts again, you'll see. Now, instead of having just the ad block post button, I can actually see what posts I have. I can also see this button right here called manage blog's. And this is really important because if you don't like the fact that this called news. I could click in here and I could click on the title news. And I have come in here and give it something else. Like new products. Maybe. Or maybe I want to call it my blawg. Whatever you want to call it doesn't really matter. Uh, we're gonna hit save. And actually, before I do that want to point out, you can also turn comments on here and maybe make it pending moderation or make it so they just automatically publish that's up to you. I'd recommend at least making it. So you have to moderate the comments or maybe turn them off altogether. But we're gonna click save now and now my blawg has been updated with the new title here. It's gonna reload in just a second. We're gonna go back to manage blog's and you can see we've got that called my blawg now. And if I come back here to blood posts that actually updated on that post we already made Now, one thing that's really important. Let's just pretend like we have a new block post here and let's say we wanted to add a new we'll call this one portfolio. I was gonna throw some stuff in here and let's say that we wanted to make a portfolio blog's. So I'm gonna click, create new blawg right here. We'll call it a portfolio, and I was gonna publish this and hit Save. Now I don't want to show you is when I come back to block posts and I come back to manage blog's, we now have another blawg here called Portfolio. Now, where this gets tricky is if you make a bunch of posts under this portfolio blawg. And then let's say you decide you wanted to change or maybe delete that blawg category. If you come up here to manage blog's and we delete the my portfolio category, it will also delete all associative articles as well. So let's go and click delete and then this. Come back to my block post. You'll notice that other post we just made is now gone, so it's going to point that out to you to be careful. If you're going to be changing names of your blog's or maybe adding or deleting stuff, just really pay attention to that. Maybe come into your product and change. So let's say I wanted to not have that deleted. I'd come back in my product, go to my blawg and change it to another one before I deleted that category. I hope that makes sense. I know I'm kind of flying through this, but I'm trying to give you the big picture of things to watch out for as you make your blog's. Now, the next thing I want to show you is how do you make it? So that way you can add a product to a block post. So we're gonna do is we're actually going to come into our sales channels. And if you haven't already, click on the plus sign and add the buy button. I'm gonna hit command and click on this to open this in a new tab. So create by button and we're gonna make it for this product. It's select product, and I'm gonna leave. It is the full enhanced template. And then I'll leave everything else alone and click generate code, and then I'll copy this code to my clipboard. I'll come back over to this block post and I'm going Teoh, you know, Let's say you actually wrote some stuff in here. I'm just gonna delete some of it. He returned a couple times and then I'm gonna change for my wish. The wig editor to my HTML editor. I'll come down here at the end, hit return a couple times, and then I'll pace that code in here. They don't click save, so you can't see it loading because of the JavaScript and whatever else it takes to make it . But if I come back here to my show, it seem out it should. Yep, it's still all in there. So now if I come appearing click view that Blawg Post will have my featured image will have the text, and it will give people the option to buy the shirt right here within the bloc post, which is pretty slick. So if you know how to use HTML and CSS, using this HTML editor is kind of a fun way for you to make the blawg behave mawr exactly like you want it to. Now, if you're like many people and you have no desire to learn code, you can also don't forget you've got that app store that see which one do I have that open and actually closed it. We're gonna come back to my dashboard here. We'll go to the APS, will visit the shop by APP store. So once we're in the app store, what I'm gonna do, we can hear the search, the apse by typing in blawg and that will return about 190 different results for different APS that you can use to extend the features of your blawg or I'm gonna compare two categories come down to store design, and I'd recommend checking out blog's and or page builders. Now, what that's gonna do is it's gonna help you. You know, for those of you who want to have your blog's pages look a certain way without having to write code, you can install some of these to help extend the layout and and make it look exactly how you want. Now, keep in mind some of these air free, but some of these have ah limited trial and then they cost. In this case, this one is $10 per month to use, so just kind of pay attention to that for you two committed to one of them. But the whole point here is you know, by default, my blawg post. If I left my featured image like this, it's huge. It's kind of it's kind of ugly. And then the Texas very straight. And that's all I have for options. So using the APP store is going to be a great way for you to be able to design your posts and make them exactly how you want. So I know we've covered a lot of ground in this lesson, but I have one more thing I want to show you before cut you loose. So if you want to have your blog's show up in your navigation, I'm gonna click on this news feed right here. How do you do that? Well, it's just like the navigation tutorial that we went through earlier. We come back to our sales channel will go down under online store down to navigation, and what we're gonna do is click on our main menu. And I've already done this before I recorded tutorial, but what we're gonna deal was thrown in the trash real quick and remove it. I'm gonna add a menu item click on the link box. We're gonna add blog's right here. The only option have right now is the my Blawg because we deleted the other portfolio. Blawg. I'll click, add and now save my menu. When I go to my home page, you'll see that my BLAWG category is now at the top. I hope that makes sense again. I know we covered a lot of ground in this video, but that's basically everything you need to know to get up and running with your blawg on Shopify. 18. Adding a Refund Policy, Terms & Conditions, and a Privacy Policy: and this. Listen, we're gonna learn how to flesh out the legal pages for your Shopify site, such as, but not limited to your shipping settings, your terms and conditions and, of course, your refund policy. So what we're gonna do shall find makes it really easy if we just come down here to the settings from the home dashboard area bottom left of your screen. Now under the whole settings layout in the bottom right of this little grid, we have the legal tab where we can manage our stores, legal pages and jump five makes it really simple to add these in. But first and foremost, of course, we can create our own legal pages from templates. But you know what the disclaimer is? Of course I'm not a lawyer. Neither Shopify. So you definitely want to take a look at these and make sure that you've read the disclaimer and that you go through the actual text that they've dropped in here to make sure it makes sense for your specific store. But you know what? These are a great template to start with. Help get up and running super fast. So go through here. Make sure it's got the right contact information that it mentions your store name correctly and by default. That should actually pull that information in from your Shopify account. But if it doesn't again, you don't want to make sure you get this all lined out before you actually publish it. But once you're happy with what the refund policy says, I can say create from template down here bright below that box. And we will replace the refund policy cause I already have one because I've only done this once. Said I was practicing the site in this tutorial. Uh, anyway, so now we've got the privacy policy. Same thing. Go through, make sure it looks how you wanted to and we're gonna click, create from template Scroll down. The more we about the terms of service now, this is something where you know, for example, it says Derek Mitchell store offers this website while yada yada, I would probably go with urine changes Teoh, you know, by a cool business name and go through. So you got to go through and make sure that the text actually makes sense. But again, once you've got how you want to click, create from templates replace those terms of service already did. And last but not least, we have a shipping policy which currently is blank, and I don't know what we should say in here, So let's just go and do this. Let's jump into Google and say Shipping policy template. So I scrolled down and there's a lot of options, but I clicked on this guy here, and this was a really good sample of some different shipping policies. So here's one from a company called Bean Box. It's a subscription service that partners with Seattle's top independent coffee roasters. So for them, they ship every Wednesday from most items to coordinate with their roasters, so you can see that you're shipping terms and your shipping. Um uh, policy can be very specific. I mean, could be whatever you want. You can make it up. You're gonna need to spend some time thinking about your business, thinking about what makes sense and then going and setting this up. Here's another example. They talk about how long it takes for orders and when they ship out, How much costs And let's see, Do we have any others down here that are worth looking at this one is actually got a table that they've pasted in there as an image. So I mean, really just a wide open page. And I'm just going to say this is my shipping policy click save. And so that link will show up at CIA. Tells you right here. When saved customers can see the link to this on product pages. Cart check out, check out footer and menus optionally. OK, so basically same thing all of these will show up. So if we go to a product, let's just go back to our home here and we will jump into actuals, do this way, jump into my store, come down here to the product that I had added, and now in the Footer, it should show up under our foot or menu. We have our privacy policy. So if I click on that, this is the privacy policy that got put in by default. So I'm gonna go ahead and go back and, ah, let's go ahead and go to a sadistic art. It's good cart and check out page, and as I scroll down, we can see our shipping link. Although that's probably there. We go. This is my shipping policy. So you know, you might want to spend a little more time dialing that in, but that's how that shows up there. Back in our Footer, I see the search and and, uh, privacy policy. And then, of course, if we come back to our online store, we come down to navigation. I can come to my foot or menu here, and I can add a menu item. So click on that under pages. We're going to find I'm sorry under policies. We're going to find all of those policy pages we just made so I could say terms of service Click on that. It automatically give it a name. I'll click, add. So now that's in my footer So that search privacy policy, terms of service. Let's go ahead and add another policy. How about the refund policy will add that. And while we're at it, let's see. Last one was the shipping. I forget you get the point, though, so we've got shipping refund terms and privacy policies all under this footer menu. And if I hit save menu. Now, when I come back to my site, scroll down. You can see All those links are now set up there, and they're all set up by the false. So when I click on these, it'll show that really long. You know, Gross. Look in privacy, Polly Policy that's going to keep us out of trouble. So hope that helps you get your legal pages set up. And again. You know, this this is a template to get your close, but you do need to dial in the settings to make them specific to your store. So that is how you set up your policy pages on Shopify. 19. How to Get Paid: All right, let's talk about the fun stuff getting paid. So when this doesn't, what we're going to do is take a look at how you can enable your payment. Gateway to start accepting payments right away. It's really straightforward in your dashboard. Come down here to settings and then on the settings page. Go ahead and click on payment providers. Now, by default, you'll have PayPal set up with the address that you set up your store with and depending on the country you're in, you'll also see Shopify payments as an option. If you have that as an option, all you have to do is click on the complete account set up button, and then it's going to help you get Shopify payments set up. So for me personally, my business is an LLC, and I actually have an E i N number that I got from the I. R s when I set up my business. If you don't have that, you could also set up your individual business type with your Social Security number. So, depending on what other business options you might be, you can check these out as well, depending on what makes sense for you and then the rest of it's pretty straightforward. It's information that you should already know, such as your street address, your personal details, the product details of what you're going to be. Uh, the description of the product or service is you're going to be selling as well as other details you can set up like your business phone number and even the transaction on how things look on the customer's billing statement. Then all you need to do is drop in your routing number and your account number and you're up and running with the Shopify payments. Come back here to the main payments area main payments dashboard here. Like I mentioned earlier when you set up your account, the Pay PAL Express check out will automatically be set up with the email you used to set up your store. And there's also some other options, such as Amazon pay or even third party providers. If you're in a country where Shopify the shop I payment option is not available, and then, of course, there are some other alternative methods of payment as well. To be honest, I have never used these in my business, so I can't speak to them firsthand, but you do have some other options, such as bank deposit, money order or cash on delivery and then last your payment capture. So at the moment somebody decides to check out of your store, will automatically capture payment for the orders and immediately charge their card. Or, if you click on manually, what you'll have to do is go in and actually process the orders. So it'll capture the payment method from your customer. But it won't actually charge their card until you go into the dashboard and capture the funds, so that's pretty much it for how to get paid with Shopify. 20. How to Setup Checkout: in this lesson, we're gonna take a look at how to customize your online check out process. So come down to settings, and then from there you'll see, check out, we'll go and click on that. And now the very first thing is, obviously, my favorite as a graphic designer is getting to customize a style of our check out page. So we're gonna actually save us for the end, though we'll circle back to this at the end of this lesson. For those of you just want to dive in and get most of your settings right. Or maybe you don't have the logo or the brand set up quite yet. You want to circle back to this, so let's just go and make sure we get our checking our checkouts settings dialed in. So our first thing we come to is a customer accounts. Now, by default, these air disabled I recommend making them optional. And here's why. I always appreciate when I'm shopping online, being able to make an account where I can check in and see the status of my order, as well as a reorder quickly and easily. In the future, however, there are some people who would prefer to check out as a guest and you not have their information. So that's why I leave it optional, because if it's disabled, I feel like you're missing out on an opportunity to provide a better shopping experience for your customers. On the flip side, if it's required, you might have some people who don't want to give you their information and are turned off by that. And then you lose the order so I would leave those as optional. Next is your customer contact. So when they go to check out, customers can check out using either phone number or email, which is default option here. I would leave that because I enjoy getting updates by SMS by text messages. But you can obviously change that option, and you can also select whether customers can choose to add a phone number or email to receive shipping updates after they complete their order. So I turn that on next is the actual form option. So during check out the check out form that you would go through the information that's required as they go through that. So by default, it's last name on Lee. I like to put it as first and last name just to get to know who my customers are, as well as to make sure there's no confusion in the order. As you can see clearly who the first and last name is, even though you're gonna have an order, number and order, I d with it. It's nice if there were multiple orders with people who have the same US name but different people. All right. Next. His company name only that hidden. Most of my store customers are not businesses. We can leave the address. Line two is optional. Shipping address. Phone number is hidden by default. All the that is optional because sometimes it's nice having a phone number, especially if you're as a customer. You're somebody who maybe has a unique shipping arrangement with your for me, where I'm at. It's nice that FedEx or UPS can actually call my phone number when it's out for delivery. And, ah, you know, they don't always do that, But having that option to put that in is nice. So I leave. That is optional. All right, now let's talk about order processing. So this is how your store responds to the check out and order events. So while the customers checking out use the shipping address as the billing address by default, this is handy because that way they don't have to put in the information twice. It just defaults to that, but they can still go in and change it. If you're using a credit card that has a different address on it, but I leave that checked, I'll leave in the address auto completion, which just helps people check out faster and suggests the address based on what they're typing in. All right after the order has been paid. Do we want to automatically fulfill the order line items? No. Do not automatically fulfill any of the order line items. I want to go in and fulfill them manually when I come through the dashboard and process my orders. However, after the order has been fulfilled and it's been shipped and everything's paid for, I'll go ahead and let the system automatically archive the order. Now let's talk about email marketing, so we're going to show a sign up option that check out. So while they're checking out to see a little button that says, you know, join our newsletter or keep up to date with what we have going on or receive promotion discounts. Now, by default, the button will be there, but it will not be pre selected. So this is something you're gonna have to decide what you want to do. I feel like when I'm checking out and they've pre opted me in Teoh, an email newsletter. It's a little bit sleazy. On the flip side, though, some people might want to join in, and they just don't see it because it's it's kind of, ah, minor options, so you'll have to choose whether you want to be pre selected or not. But I would definitely show a sign up option, because that's gonna be part of building your brand and being able to promote your products in the future. So it's definitely one of the number one things you can do is a store owner is to start building up your email contact list. Part of your email marketing is going to be sending out e mails for abandoned check out so that somebody who went through added a product almost checked out but then didn't buy. So this is obviously a really huge marketing opportunity and I don't know the stats. I don't have them in front of me. But I do know that stores that have is enabled end up doing significantly better by picking up those lost carting abandoned CART items than those who don't have it. So I would say for anybody who abandons, check out yes, and them in this email following up and say, Hey, did you forget to check out? And now this is something you can play with is how long to wait. You know, maybe is it just a Knauer while it's fresh? Or maybe we wait about 10 hours. I'm gonna leave it a 10 hours because people who are smarter than I am have taken the time to figure out which option is best. So we're gonna leave it at that. You can customize the email here, but for now I'm gonna leave it alone. And then last is your check out language and by default minds in English, which makes sense. So I'm gonna leave that alone. But before we shut down this video, let's go to scroll back to the top and take a look at how to customise our check out page. So I'm gonna click on this button. And for me, this is where the fun really begins again as a graphic designer, uh, you know, one of the first things I love to do is stylized everything and make it custom and make it exactly how I want to look so by default. The check out page really isn't bad. So that's why we're circling back to this at the end of this video. For those of you who want just get right into it, this check out page works, It's got your buttons, it's got your store name. It even has the product that's in the list here, and it's really clean and really straightforward, so we don't want to mess with it too much. I just want to dial it in a little bit and make it look more like my brand. So we're gonna do is under the sections tab. I'm gonna click on open check out settings, and I'm gonna go and put an image across the top of select images, and I'll throw in that image that I've been using for a lot of other things just to kind of help with brand consistency individually Make it look like my website. I'll go and hit Select, and I can see right away the waves in this aerial shot of the ocean. It definitely doesn't work with my right text. So I'm gonna go ahead and throw in my local real quick first, select this image and that's also white. So we're still gonna have an issue here. But luckily all have to do is select the position. I'm just gonna throw it all away to the right here and now my logo. Instead of being here and kind of conflicting with this white image, it's gonna put it all way over here once it refreshes perfect. I like that. I'm going to scroll down a little bit and I can modify everything on here. I could modify the main content areas. Well, now, this is something you want to get careful with, because while I could go nuts over here and just as an extreme example, let's just put it is black. The form fields are going to stay white, which is cool, but it just I don't know. It just starts to look kind of busy, so I'm going to do is throw us back toe white. We'll scroll down a little bit more the order summary. We can mess with this chunk as well. But again, I like the minimalist clean Look here. I just wanted to kind of have a touch of my brand. However, one thing I can do to push it a little bit further is right now my links are this royal blue color, and that doesn't really match with the other things that I do. So I use an app called Sip S I P is how you spell that. And it's always running here, and my computer and I can click on this little target. And I can select any color on my desktop that I want and then assumes I click on it. It's going to sample that hex color, and I can paste it in when I'm building websites to get the exact color. So I've already done this before with some other colors, and I know that this medium aqua, aqua marine it's a color I use on a lot of my buttons. I'm gonna click on that. It automatically copy that hex code. I might come over here to my colors. Let's change the accents and the buttons, somebody clicking here and paste that it enter or maybe click off here, I suppose. Let's see what they want me to do it. There we go and let's update the button as well. So I click on that. Well, paced it in here. There we go. Now. My cart button matches a little bit better with everything else that I've got going on my website. When I scrolled down my continue shipping button and everything else matches my website so really simple to do, we only change the button colors and added an image logo. And now this check out page looks exactly like my brand. I'm gonna hit save before I lose my place here. And that's pretty much it. That is how to set up your shop. If I check out Page 21. How to Setup Taxes: in this list. I'm gonna show you how to configure your tax settings so you can manage how your store charges taxes. 1st 1 come down here to settings and they want to come up here to taxes. And what we want to do is figure out how do we want a charge for taxes? And as a merchant, you're going to be responsible to pay your government wherever you're at in the world. And the cool thing is that Shopify does a really good job of getting you close to all the percentage rates. But you're definitely gonna want to double check with your C p A if you have one, just to make sure you get yourself in trouble. So with that disclaimer out of the way, let's go and look at the settings. So as their tax settings, we can change the way the taxes are calculated on the store. So this check box here, if I have, is turned on its going to calculate using the formula of whatever the tax rate is for the location or the destination down here, times the price of the product and then divided by one plus the tax rate So, for example, here's the figure that they show, and what that would cost for the tax would be added on to your store During check out, you can also charge taxes on shipping rates, and the U. S. Shipping taxes automatically are calculated. We can even enable that you digital goods that tax. If you want to turn that on as well, and then to configure their tax rates down. Here it go. It goes back to your shipping setting. So depending on what you set up for your shipping settings is where these destinations are going to be pulling from if you need to add more. But I can click on this destination, and if it's already said to be automatic, it's gonna take care of all the heavy lifting for us. And then all you to do is make sure you've added your physical president. So for me, I'm in Montana. But as an example over here, let's say you have an office in California and a warehouse in New York. You're gonna need to add both of those into your physical presence here now. If I needed Teoh, I either at attacks override down here or I can click right here on the automatic check box at the top, and what that's going to do is it's going to show me each of the different regions within the U. S. And what their tax rates are so you can come through if you need to update this or dial it in for where you're at. Maybe Shopify hasn't updated this, you know, right at the exact moment you're looking at this. But for the most part they go through and these air all current. But again, you can leave us as automatic now. That's how you would change the tax settings. I know it's pretty straightforward, but again, my disclaimer is definitely get a C p. A. If you don't have one, it's a business right off. Make sure that you at least ask somebody else or do your due diligence to make sure that you don't get yourself in trouble down the road for not collecting enough taxes 22. How to Create a Subdomain: this'll isn't. I'm gonna explain how you can add a sub domain to your shop. If I store so real quick, all we're going to do if we look up here in our address, we have whatever your shop name waas dot my Shopify dot com. And in the real life case study with Dr Greg in that section, I show you how to change this to be your own your l that you've purchased. So, for example, if I were to jump over to my main website here derek Mitchell dot com I own this u R l So this website a deck mr dot com, is hosted by WordPress. But because I own this domain name, I can create a sub domain. So instead of it being www, for example, I have a sub domain called courses dot derek news dot com And this sites the same your l. But the sub domain points Instead of pointing to wordpress, it points to could Job E, which is what I used to host my membership vaults and some of the other courses that have available Then right now, what I want to do is I'm gonna change this so instead of the sub domain looking like this and pointing to my Shopify and I don't really want to change my WordPress site. I wanna have a store that instead of looking like this for the address, it actually is. Just store dot derek Mitchell dot com So that's what we're gonna do in this lesson, I'm gonna show you how to add a sub domain. Now check the links below. In the descriptions, I use Cloudflare because when I set up a job be they wanted to filter through Cloudflare that's way beyond the scope of this video. But definitely check it out and get a feel for what it can do. All I'm using it for is for their SSL certificate and some of the security solutions that they have that could job he wanted me to use for my personal website. And I'm gonna show you how I so basic. What happens is I bought the domain name through Go Daddy. And then I updated my records 2.2 Cloudflare. And then when Cloudflare took over my account, they then point that derek Mitchell dot com website to the different sites that I have. I know it sounds really complicated. Which again is why I'm gonna provide links below for you to check out. If you want to learn more, check out this link about what is a DNS. And also check out this link about what is a sub domain from Go Daddy. They do a really good job explaining it so that we'll have a better understanding of what we're doing here. And ah, again, this is a really complex topic. So I apologize for taking so long to get right into it. But check these out. So you have a better understanding of what we're trying to achieve here and wide even matters. And then now I'm gonna do is go ahead and jump in and show you how I did this personally on my own site. So if I jump in here to this Cloudflare tab, this is my actual cloud fair account and for security. I know some of this is blurred out, but basically, when you log in, you have all these different tabs across the top, and all I want to do is go to my DNS Records tab. It's his 3rd 1 over here, and I just want to add a record. So when I click add record, the type of record I want to add is a C name, and the name I put in here is whatever you want it to be. In this case, I want to say store. So I was gonna do is add a C name record of store dot derek Mitchell dot com. Or you could type in literally anything you wanted here. And then the target is when somebody goes to this store dot decorous lot com, where is it going to redirect to? So definitely look up the, um, the documentation through Shopify just to make sure you get it right. But currently it should go to shops dot my Shopify dot com And I've already set up the sea name record below, but we'll go and paces in here just so you can see what that's going to do. So when we go to store that derek Mitchell dot com it's an alias, so it'll just redirect. All right, Well, technically, it'll point to this address here, but it'll still keep this in our address bar and then the t t l. I like to change this to two minutes just so it goes quickly. The time to live. In this case, it's set to auto so I can leave that alone and I would click save, but I don't want overwrite would have done below. But that's how I would do this in Cloudflare. If you have go Daddy or Blue host or Google or any, you know, number of different registrars. Wherever you've purchased your domain name, just look up how to update, See name or DNS records or DNS management, and they will have documentation to help you out. But this is basically what you're looking for. Your just trying to add a C name. And when you hit, save what we're gonna dio is jump over to your shop. If I store and on the home page here you have this link to add a domain and I've already done this, but you can click on that. Or you could come over here to your online store, click on that and then go down to domains. And my current primary domain has already been set to store dot derek Mitchell dot com before I recorded this tutorial. But yours is gonna look like this it's gonna have the shop if I manage domain, and all you need to do is click on, connect existing domain and then copy and paste whatever you put in here. So, for example, the store dot derek Mitchell dot com click next I'm gonna click Verify connection and what it does now when I verify the connection, is it? Actually make sure that the DNS record changes that we just made actually point back to the right place, and Shopify, Now you need to do is make sure that your new address that you've added is actually the primary domain. If you don't see that there's this link right here to change the primary domain, I'll click on that, and then you can choose what the main domain. So if somebody goes to store that derek Mitchell dot com, we'll stay like that. Or if I want this to be on primary domain and a type and stored at derek Mitchell dot com, it'll actually update to this address and the address bar. I hope that makes sense. I know it was kind of a complicated topic, and it's difficult to show you your exact steps because you might be using different hosts or registrars and have a lot of different things going on. But it's actually a really cool way to use multiple services like WordPress and Shopify and K Job be in my case and have one domain name but different sub domains so that we all of your branding looks consistent. And it's also really easy toe, remember? So I hope that was a lot of help. Feel free to comment below if you have questions, but your best bet for getting answers in this topic is actually toe. Ask whomever you've got your services from selfish from Go Daddy, you know, try and check out their F A Q or wherever you're you're hosting your domain at all right, guys, good luck, and we'll see in the next video. 23. Introduction to Working with a Client: Alright guys. So I'm super pumped for you. Hope that you are taking the skills and seeing what's possible and following along creating your own website. So this next section that we're about to dive into is geared towards my current graphic design students. So even entrepreneur coming into this course and you just want to learn about e commerce and online stores for yourself. No problem. Feel free to skip this section if you want to. However, I think there's some valuable content built within it. But you know, most importantly, we don't want to do is just show you how you can take this skill set that you now have to create a Shopify site and offer that is a service if you're a freelancer. Or maybe you got a friend who wants to do something similar, and now you can rinse and repeat these skills to create multiple websites. So that's the goal with this next action is I want to peel back the curtain and show you a real case study for one of my clients. His name is Dr Greg, and in the previous course that I did, we created a logo for him and he loved it, which got my foot in the door, which then naturally led to me being able to get my hands on his website. So what we're gonna do is going to kick it off in the next video with a discovery call. So every project I do, I start with learning exactly what the client needs, and you'll even see me as we're talking about it. This is obviously a Shopify course, but I gave him the opportunity. Like do we need a WordPress site? Does even need a website at all. Do we need to build on Wix or Squarespace like trying to figure out where his head's at and why he thinks he needs a Shopify site before I just try and sell him on one So you'll see how I kind of go through that progression and really dive down, take a deep dive into what does his company really need? And how can I help come alongside him to provide that as a service? So I think it's a really high value section. You're gonna learn a ton the special money to grab design students or students who are wanting to maybe use this as an extra service for their business. So maybe your bread and butter on your service is going to be, you know, designing brochures or designing, you know, print materials. And maybe you're kind of scared of doing things with Web, But you'll see in this obviously have seen coming through these first sections, it's pretty easy. It's basically point and click which needs to. Which leads to the next. I think I want to address is that you might feel like, How could I? You have ever get anybody to pay me for making a website because it's just so simple. It's just so pointing Click. And one thing you'll learn is that a lot of entrepreneurs, even though they could figure it out, they're highly motivated and, you know, go get her kind of people. They don't necessarily always have the time to figure it out. Just wants the best to handle it for them. So you'll see how I approach that and how I know Dr Greg is smart. He could have totally done this on his own, but he trusted me and wanted me to bring along my expertise to help make sure that the website is exactly what he needed and that it was done in time. So that's the value, were adding, We're not adding value with the website per se as much as we're solving a problem and that ability to solve a problem is where you can charge money for it. Okay, so I hope that makes sense. Uh, follow along and we'll be adding more videos to the section as soon as possible. We're still right in the middle of finishing the website for Dr Greg at the time of this recording. It's up, It's running, you can see it. It's literally just a home page in a couple pages because he had an event come up when we needed it. Like acted like a splash page. So where we're still dropping in products and things like that. And I do kind of skip over some of the set up of a sight because you've already learned how to do this in the previous section. So you already Hopefully you're following along and you've got your website set up and you're starting to feel more confident in your skills. So really excited about the section, and I can't wait to hear what you think about it. And again, I'll be adding more content to this over time as we finish Dr Greg site. And the last thing I want to add to is all be showing you more case studies stuff for my own personal website That is also in the middle of being produced right now as I make this course. So, uh, my wife has been helping me my life, Jenna, and she was really motivated, Inspired by this as well. So she started a Shopify site, and we're doing some apparel for kids and families and stuff like that. So I'm excited to kind of show you as we get all these different pieces put together and bring along the ride for the journey. So anyway, really excited. I'm a stop rambling now, and we're going to dive into the doctor Greg website case study. All right. Thanks, guys. 24. Discovery Phone Call: Alright, guys, in this video, we're going to do our discovery phase. So for so for those of you that came through the logo design course, this is the same deal. But now we're approaching a Web design project. And the reason why we even have the opportunity to do this project is because we got a foot in the door with that trade service for the logo. And now we're pushing further and really developing the brand. And in this case, we're diving into the website. So this call is gonna be about discovery. We're going to discover all the things that we can do to help Dr Greg out with with his company and moving forward. We're also going to be exploring a little bit more of the brand itself colors and fonts and imagery because we're gonna be fleshing out that in a website. But I'm getting ahead of myself before we even get to any of that. I gotta figure out, does even get a website. Maybe he needs a brochure, maybe needs Ah, you know, a poster toe hang up in a coffee shop. I doubt it. But the point is right now is the time to figure out all of that. So that way I can take all the things that I learned and then come back to him with an estimate of the cost of what it will actually cost him to produce whichever way we go. So I'm gonna use usually when I do. Like I said, I'll go through all grilling with a ton of questions. And then I like to present a few different options, and we'll do that. Another call. So right now it's just about figuring out how can I help? What does he need and how come get the ball rolling. So, Dr Greg, thanks for having me back, man. I appreciate it. I'm glad you liked what we did in the first round with logos and you'll not get out of the park. So it's an obvious no brainer. You've earned our trust, and now it's time to, like, flesh this thing out and take the next step, man. So you appreciate it. Awesome. Cool. I feel the same way. I'm really excited to get going on this. So a website, uh, you don't you tell me a bit about you know why you think you need a website what you're hoping to do with this thing? I think as we spoke about earlier, I used to have a a website with my last name, which is long and confusing and great for telemarketers because they can't pronounce it. And we're going through a place for people to find me. I I I'm present in other arenas, and I am in this day and age, someone wants toe solidify who you are, what you say you are. So ah, website will get a place for someone to search for me, find me and realise that I am I I am a person of authority in my industry and that I know what I'm talking about. And that's a clean, crisp look and that it represents me and what I'm trying to accomplish professionally. Well, so, um so So part of the Web site is gonna be just like, who is this guy? And what does he stand for? What does he talk about it? Can I believe in trust him? Part of the website is where else can I find him on social media and one of those pages look like And is there a congruence see of those pages or visible Beckett, some Spaghetti Junction thing put together. And then part of the upset will also be products that I endorse and sell. And there's a way that a person can have a congruent experience with finding those products or bring those products. Getting quick delivery on those products and finding a way to use them effectively. Got it. Okay, so the couple questions I have for you then would be it sounds like we've got a lot that this website's gonna wear on its shoulders. We've got e commerce where we're selling products. I'm assuming both physical and digital based on the water conversations are so physical meaning like proteins and health products. Yeah, digital meaning. Maybe PdF downloads of whether it's a workout plan or some kind of thing should. Could be. Ah, and then we've got based. Are you gonna do any blogging article style riding on this thing? I I hate writing. I love shooting video, so no, that's great. If if I do that type of stuff, I'll probably higher are have my V A transcribed my videos and so that we can do some S e o off of the words and what not. But I do not see myself sitting down a bit on my computer saying, Let's write a two page article about probiotics today. Just I wouldn't even recommend that in today's day and age I'd go, you're out making video, get the subtitles Gallon and drop that in. So yeah, okay. And then, you know one thing you mentioned, you're talking about making it remember your exact words, but it reminded me so. Some of the brands I work with are very, very small mom and pop shops. Some of the stuff I've done is obviously very big. We've talked about that. What a name drop. But you know, anyway, the point his designed can elevate you and can put you on a level playing field. So even though we're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, we dio and what's really need about a website is your right. You can present yourself as whatever you want to be. So that's where we're gonna spend some time to looking at some other doctors and other sites that are in the same field is you just to see how they lay out their content But something I tell my students in the past is I don't just look to those types of websites, cause usually they're terrible. Usually they, they all start to have, like, groupthink, and they'll start to do the same thing. All look at brands like What's MTV doing? What's Red Bull doing? What is Nike doing? Like, what are they like? They have nothing to do with what you're doing specifically. But they know a thing about marketing, right? And so we'll start kind of looking at where do we want to know what modules do we need to make or what? Like you said video, So that tells me I need to make a home for video on your website. I need to have a place where that makes sense. We're gonna have e commerce. So I need toe make something that makes sense for that as well. And so we're gonna be looking at all kinds of markets and looking at how they apply. Okay, How did they put videos on the website? Doesn't have to be a doctor site could be anything. So just to my students, that's my as I'm asking these questions. Those are things I'm thinking about is like, OK, where am I? What needs a home? And how am I going to create that home for whatever content it is. So, um Okay, So something else that you talked about and usually I wouldn't I wouldn't go down this route yet. I wouldn't even suggest technology yet. Ah, usually just trying. Figure. Okay. He needs a place for video in his place for a blawg. Maybe he needs a place to sell stuff. He needs a way to have basically a static website, essentially, where he's got a few pages, like about him. And, um, you know, just different services, things like that. And But I'm gonna ask this question because I know we're leaning toward Shopify for this project. And I'm curious why you're leaning toward Shopify versus, like, WordPress or Wicks or squarespace or anything else that we've heard. No, that's a good question. And I've had a pretty sizable shot a WordPress site in the past, and part of it is, then don't get me wrong. I want support from yourself and your team. Teoh do all the things that you guys can dio. Yet I also want to be an empowered and understanding enough of things that I can dio. And, um, it just had some some friends of mine that do step on Shopify. And there's, for example, one of the supplement companies that I utilize has some specific rules where you actually can't even you can't display a price unless someone's a logged in member of the site. And I know that Shopify has changed the rules about that now lovingly, I don't care for you, Shopify or WordPress or whatever else is out there. I just wanted to be user friendly, and I I want the ability and the know how to. Once I have a a video produced, I know how to plop it in there and make it look good. I want to know when I have a new product ourselves, that I can plop it in there and sell it. And I want to know that that if I'm out of a product that I can't sell the product because or it's backward or there's someone to communicate. So I just so I just there's gotta be user friendliness, and whether that's a Shopify or a WordPress are whomever is out there so I'm really not sold on Shopify necessarily. I've just heard good things about it. So it sounds like you definitely be in the driver seat. So you're not planning to hand off or delegate the Web update? Your you're gonna be very hands on with this project. Uh, maybe not necessarily meet personally. But, like, you know, someone that you know, a potentially not highly trained, highly tech savvy person that if they have a flow of step one, Step two, Step three grabbed this image at this Burbage. Here's the price. Here's the cost is the quantity. Uh, that's that's my hope. Okay. Okay. And then right before the call you sent me the couple dropbox links filled with with some family photos and some professional photos of you fancy new doctor stuff. Ah. So as far as content goes, do you have a lot of that ready for me or you're gonna need us to help you spool some of that up? You know, I think I I don't because I don't really know. Quite the, um obviously I know how I talk. And I know how I say things yet. I'm not sure the approach because my last sight was very white coat stethoscope. We talked. Oh, yeah, you're the patient. And now I wanted to be like, This is not just an expert. He's also like, really, I I can associate with him and he seems like he's conversational and And where's before? I think I had an ego issue and I just wanted, like, some how smart I was were in reality. Now in my came in, I have the same struggles and I have the same part, their ways. And I just have learned a couple cool things and I want to share them with you. So it's a case to where I might even have you, like say, Okay, and I'll try to shoot a video because if you say type type up in about me section, I would be like, uh, my drag. Things have really changed. Yeah, so it's funny. So as far as where I'm at in my career and now and already know this. But for my students, maybe don't know me. I, within the last like three weeks quit my job as a creative director. Ah, very comfortable job and coming back into freelancing and do I love this part of the project and so I can relate like I was gonna say is back in the day, I used to be like, Well, what was your about Page and what your tax. And now it's like just cut a video because then there's so much more they're going to see about you in the little nuances of your face and what you're saying, what you're actually saying with your body language versus what your words are really saying. And so I'm really excited for this. Go around with with these Web projects because there's so much we can do these days, so much more than we couldn't do, you know, in the past. And I'm really excited about that and something else that you said that struck out to me. We call it like your brand voice, or I like to call it my flavor, like, What's the flavor gonna be? And what I mean by that is like, Are you going to be the sterile lab coat guy or, you know what language but vocabulary using. Do you swear a little bit? Are you rough around the edges or, like, you know, red for call your kids popped in the door behind you. My kids probably popped down any second now, too. So it's like, you know, your your family guy or your professional or, you know, like all those things, build your brand, especially for you, where you are your brand more than any other company type of company. So those are all really important cues to pay attention to. I think what I envision is like an interviewer. I need my wife for my son doing the videography, like asking the question of me, like in the back of the video and then me saying, So what makes me tick? Well, here's what makes me tick. And then there's the video of me. So there's kind of us less way less formal than me and that I mean, I don't think there's gonna be any lab coats. Yeah, this it Mr Weapon? No stethoscopes. I mean, it's not necessary. No, that that you know, I think I don't think it hurts to maybe have one of those floating around just because of the cloud. It adds, uh, you know, case in point about these books behind me, and that's a fraction of the books that I have is mostly designed books. So it speaks. In fact, like I've read those like, I know what those books say. And ah, same thing for you. Like the approachable Dr Greg is awesome. But maybe through a lab coat and there somewhere for okay, he is a doctor, guys. You know what I mean? Like a doctor. Yeah, yeah, but we don't want to be the first image we want to be. Like what? Stogies? That the right word. But yes s o Okay. So, back to back into the kind of discovery mode. So I have a pretty good idea of what you want. And I understand why Shopify is appealing for those of you. Don't know if you got 27 24 7 support, which is amazing. That's better than I can provide. If he's working on the stuff of two in the morning and get stuck, I don't want calling me, you know? So I'm more than happy. Teoh Refer him to something like that. That's that's a great solution, actually, little more expensive. You get what you pay forest faras, you know, having the ability to call somebody when you get stuck so that's great. Eso as faras other You know, other questions I would ask you is you lock down a domain name or you have, like, five or six we had talked about. Have you decided on the direction you want to take that? I think we're going to rock out my doctor, Greg dot com, which I've got tied in to go, Daddy. So I can give you access to that because we get that tied in and then and then I'll obviously need from you how to our will need to research. What Shopify version. Assume there's different versions. Price points for different vice points. Yeah. So which one of those that I'll need for what I'm trying to accomplish? That we can research that a little bit and maybe we can I don't know if we have people Shopify up into a screen share so that we can Yeah, and obviously this stuff will change, right? Because your students, I mean five years from now shop I have stuff will change. But the reality is you'll redo this course probably once a year, because, Chef, I will change that much, which is the nice thing about yet I guess. Yeah, And And I think the other really important thing of what I want to accomplish, you know? So obviously the first thing is just credibility of who I am. But then, you know, one of the things that one of the sites will look at from my friend, one of my doctor friends, is is is the ability for someone to just say, Hey, I want to talk to you like I want. I want a brief free conversation and then you know whether shop if I can do those kinds of things or whether we need to go WordPress with a plug in with that And then even for a way that once a person, once I say yes in a way that a person can be sent to my availability from a from a calendar type thing eso that I'm not having a personal assistant spend tons of time where if I would just say, hey approved And then it sends them the ability to get on a free 15 minute call with me and really the goal Those calls would be one of two things. A I want to be a patient. Nb I want you to come speak for us. And that's really the That would be that the roles. We even would even know that before I even get on that phone call. In my last website, I had the person answer a handful of questions before even got on that free phone call. So I knew who they were, What their goal waas you're talking about whether they're patient for you, needing your services or whether they wanted to hire you for speaking gig is what I'm hearing. One of those two things. Yes, So I would envision, like I'm interested in Dr and Dr Greg being my doctor or my speaker for my upcoming presentation or something. So and we can do. And this is, you know, something will continue to kick around, but we can actually do, um, trying to blank Oh, my gosh, where the form is basically if then So if it says Dr then it was a whole bunch of different questions about I'm sorry about being a speaker of It's a patient. Then it will be Oh, my gosh. I'm gonna insert the word here somewhere Once I figure out it's good, man, you get a little Italy will actually know what it's asking. Yeah, based on whichever one they choose, it'll guide him down the path. Now you're asking questions that I could make sense for each market. Yeah, it was good. Yeah. So and then and then we have spots. Where we put into testimonials would be a big thing. So obviously some video of meetings and presenting. So these people are like cake, and you can talk like he sounds. Second photo shop like you in front likes the massive audience. If we have to, you could do that would be pretty fun. And then, obviously I have some videos from some of the athletes that I work, but I really my goal is that this attracts athletes eso these athletes because I want the efforts. Do I want them to hire me to run their labs and do their nutrition programs. That's really what I want this the doctor patient thing to look like inside. Okay, So, um, as faras Something I like to ask What? How would you define success for this project? And I'm a deposit for a second for my students is a really, really, really important question So this is one of back to one of the number one things in anything we do. Number one, I would say is communication. Right? I have to know exactly what the client needs. And he has to know exactly what is getting when he's getting it. How much it's gonna cost. Okay. Communication If you don't have it, your projects the fastest way stuff go sideways. Ah, So the next thing is defining success. How would you define success in this project? So is that we get 1000 hits a day on the website. Is it? I get you know, 500 new leads a month, is it? I sell $1000 with the product of Like what? In your mind? Like to know that I hit like even the know that I just like did an OK job. But if we were to hit this out of the park what is your website doing for you? Is it just clout? People go there and payoff under website. It looked really cool. Or is it? You know, riel business. I might give you a second Gonna ramble a little bit longer. What you think about that? So for our personal website for our Mitchell's garage agency website. It has been online for how, I don't know, 10 12 years. Long time I've had multiple versions of the site and I think of those years I have maybe had, I would say, less than three organic. Somebody found me, liked it and we're doing business like no more than three people right on this website. That's was a lot of effort to get up. However, it's kind of like the soft sail closer, but I mean by that is usually what happens. People already know about who I am, somebody else that all go to Derek is great. Then they go to the website like Oh yeah, he knows what he's doing And then I get the call. So the website didn't really get the organic lead. It just helped, Like you said, build the clout of Oh, he's you know he knows what he's doing. He's got the things whatever. So, for me the website is not a money maker. It's it's a companion to the word of mouth for me. That's how my website works for me. So all right, I would I think this one is very similar to that. This one is proving my presence and proving that I m present and professional and because, as you know, I mean, I have way more businesses than just this medical speaking. So I want people to be able to find me and go, Wow, that's really cool. I also, you know, and you have organ damage an e commerce component to it. However, I am not reliant upon shipping out 50 boxes a day of product. Um, part of it's just for the clients that I do have instead of me taking these like orders over the email or over the phone, that they just have a place to go that's easy, that they can get stuff, and it's just less steps and must hand holding from my standpoint. But ultimately this is this is me. This is this is where people are gonna go find me and whether it's for eso, for example, I do I do functional medicine for a franchise boutique, Jim Company, and they're Cheeseman chief marketing officer, said Greg, you need a good website because when people hear about what we're doing inside of this boutique Jim and that you are a director of function nutrition. They're going to go look for you. They need to solidify that You, our somebody that knows that you're talking about and that we just didn't find some kid on a medical school that was willing to help us out. So speaking of kids coming in and kids look at that little girl. Hey, you. You, I'm talking about Oh, come back high. You look happy to help. Oh, good morning, sweetheart. How are you? What is that? It's Uncle Derek. Way lived in Hawaii. Every man was uncle. Yeah, so? So all the boys Air uncle. So say I have a good day. I'll take that. Thank you. You too, sweetheart. But by all right, so the beauty of working from home. All right, so right now, just heart milk. Look at that. You look so happy. Has a limp. Well, I keep the names off the off the recording, but anyway, um, that's awesome. I love that so much. So, yes, I'm going back. So the oh, yeah. They said have a presence that people come. They're going to search for you. So let them land someplace where they're like, Oh, my Gosh, this guy is a pro, and we are crazy, fortunate to have access to what he can do for us. So that's the That's another one of the goals of this of this site off sales. Okay, so that that almost tells me like the e commerce is good to have. And you said, you know, depending on it. So it's almost like a wow. This guy really knows his stuff. He's even gotten e commerce site, but it's not like that's what you're really, really, and they'll probably some videos where I shoot that. I talk about how how I personally use or how they use certain products with my clients and we'll have a link to my site. I mean, perfect. At the end of the day, um, I'm not like going after Dr Axe to have you no self, $20 million of protein powder. I feel that I have done it better routes to sell some my products in this. However, if someone's gonna buy it, then at least need to give them an opportunity of a place to purchase it for sure. So you mentioned a word back a little bit ago. You talk about being present and presence, and I'm curious what that means to you as far as being present is that Try and clarify that for me a little bit a presence, you know, in today's day and age. If you're not online and you don't you don't have a footprint that explains who you are. Um, and you're like one thing I hate, for example, like when companies don't have a website, but they have Facebook beach. I'm like, Come on, like having a Gmail account for email without a professional earl of it, Right? So So that's a case to where it just It just levels is your dearest little about. And I think that's important for your designers to build. Understand? The explanation of that to their clients is yes, this is. This not only allows you to get out there, it's also speak volumes of who you are and what this looks like. So when I talk about presence, I want the presence that I want is personable, professional, um, knowledgeable and oh my gosh, like I need to follow this guy because he has some good stuff. And if I want to take the next step I know that I had some things that I can hire him to do . So for your content game, it sounds like you're doing a lot of video. Sounds like that'll probably live on. I'd guess video in some capacity, because that's where I see some stuff. Yeah, you are you looking past, But it's just it's not It's Yeah, it's expensive for what I'm trying to accomplish. Okay, what about, um, other social channels Twitter, Facebook, instagram? This is a case where I still a lot of mine are based around my doctor motion, and they have fair followings. I think it's probably time to rebrand everything as Dr Greg are my doctor, Greg, and re up those things with, you know, we're gonna talk. We have a new logo for my last course. We're gonna have a new colors, new fonts. I'm going to speak differently because of my old videos. All right. Said, Hey, this is this is Dr Greg from Doctor Mu genre. Hey, Dr Martin for dr motion dot com. And I would confuse people now if I said I if I said or did these things and just where I'm at in my life you guys. I mean, that was 45 years ago. That was before kind of retirement and a big shift in my life. And it's there's time for its its were due for new stuff and honestly. And it's funny cause I followed some people like I look different, like I when I did my last stuff like I did in Iron Man Triathlon at £185. Well, I weigh £245 right now because I lift weights fatty. So I looked different and I'm I'm I'm a different physique. I have five less hair up top. I'm I got new teeth, so I just I just want there to be a consistent look also like like I give you crap before videos of my cage. You have the right shirt on. Yeah, like one of the guys that I follow, like where's the same black shirt in all of his videos, and it's consistent. He doesn't He doesn't draw my eye to his whenever his shirt says, and I have learned some things along the way, and I'm excited because I also got some cool new video equipment that I'm excited to reduce some of these things. And I can repurpose lot of my old videos and just redo them in a more professional way. You guys, I'm like, Dr Greg, check this thing out. Like whatever tech it is, Rhino slider camera, it doesn't matter. And my connections. Look what I got, like, hate you so much right now. Like I got to go buy a new whatever to catch up with you. Let's trio. That's right. I love it. Okay. Yeah. No, that totally makes sense. And I think we're really on. We're starting kind of hit our stride with you know what we're gonna do for you? Uh, so one other question that I have is timeline. That's another really big question. And I know we're on a different timeline because of things were trying to do with this course in mind. But also, just in general, a student watching this That's gonna be the next question. The leading right into communications out of things. Like, if you're thinking you've got a month to do this and like, Well, why can't I have it by tomorrow? Like they just don't understand the process? You haven't educated them on how long it takes to do some of the stuff. So, you know, all things being equal. In a perfect scenario, you obviously love to have us up. Yesterday, everybody would. But what do you think is a realistic timeline? Do you have an event coming up where you need to have this on a business card, like other different things coming down the pipe that you'd like to have this in time for? Yeah. This is one of the few times in my career that I haven't been under the gun. I mean, I remember, like, you know, we're a week out from a huge expo, and I need, you know, fill in the blank banners, business cards, posters and and then we just rushed, and they turned out okay, but they never have a should have been in this particular case. I'm not up against any timelines, and I think it's important for the designers in this course like you just said to give their like, just like you said, You know, like most people, I bet you'd want it yesterday, though what we've talked about thus far for me to do the very best work possible, which I assume is what you'd like me to do. Uh, there, I've got about and given perspective, right? I've got about 50 hours of dedicated work to get this to where it needs to go and, you know, and unfortunately, I can't sit down a 12 hour chunks and be creative and do a good job for you. So 50 hours for me is about three weeks with the other projects that I'm doing. And and I just want you to understand that, you know, at least three weeks to get this. Where is that? So so is that OK, Timeline? As I'm sitting here shaking my head, I have to use some of those communications things me and two. If it's here's the reality, too. Sometimes it's OK to say no. Sometimes it's OK to say, I can't do that at my level of expertise with your timeline and then went, because what's gonna happen is if you say no, and then they go find some some second, rip it out really quick. A. You know that they can't do a good job back quick, so they're gonna get a subpar job and you've already earned their trust from a previous work that was done timely and professionally. So then when it So then they understand that you know your craft, you know your time and what it takes to deliver a high quality product. And then there's respect inside of that. So so and again it there's hundreds. You need to knock out something quick just because they're like they trust you, they love you and you're going to go over the top. But then, once you've had that respect, then you charge for that. Yeah, So here's how you here's how you do that. Uh, here's some tactics for that. If if we need to knock it out quick so we can do things like what? We're gonna break this project into phases. Phase one is it's turned on and there's a page they're saying coming soon so we could do a landing page. Right? So let's say you have like, Manigat event this weekend. Can you throw something up there, right? Yeah, well, through Europe there, even if we have to buy hosting through, you know, let's say we're not ready for Shopify yet, but we put a WordPress site like there's a lot of things you could, like, do anything you can imagine, right so we can throw something out there. So that way, my doctor, Greg, has your face on it and a way for people to contact you at the very least, or, at the very least, like that, so that we can knock out in, you know, no time at all, so you could break up into phases. You could say, you know what's fun about working on these? I wouldn't call this a smaller project. It's gonna turn into a big thing. But as far as you know, this isn't what we call what I tell designed by committee. It's not, ah, nonprofit that I have to have, you know, 15 different peoples blessing to move forward. It's one guy. It's just you. If you're happy, we're good. It's not a big corporation where you've got a bunch of red tape and branding guidelines to jump there, not just us so we can throw anything at the wall we want, You know, like literally by the end of day, I could have something on Shopify, and it's your photo from when your dropbox things and it's coming soon, right? We could we could move that fast if we wanted to. You know, as a friend of somebody letting this again So your clients become friends and they trust you. And so because I've already established that connection because we've already established you know what? We've got deposits in place. We have payments coming. I can just now I feel comfortable going to dive into stuff and be like, Yeah, we'll get this going on. Sentiment invoices. No big deal. You gotta be careful with that kind of stuff. You get in trouble quick, but a lot of times it gets fun because you're working together as a team and you're just letting the creativity flow. So we're gonna do kind of a mix of that where, you know, I'm gonna I'm gonna again for the sake of this course and having the productive, you know, the steps and showing you how to rinse and repeat what we do. This is our discovery call. I will be throwing some different estimates at you. Some different phases and different things we can do, depending on your timeline and budget. All that stuff. But it is fun. Like to work with clients who it's one or two people and you can you can throw something up and then next week decided change. That's why I love Web design versus print design. Print design is pretty final when she pushed print, it is what it is. There's a typo on. It's a $30,000 project. Well, guess what? Reprint. Oops. You know, on a website you can change the page every hour if you wanted to. So that being said there was some great great advice. It's great feedback, and I really appreciate that. Um, so let's see, I pretty much have um you know, most of the rough discovery that I that I need. I could I could prolong this a little bit more. Ah, but I know you're coming up against some time and I got a bounce pretty soon. So there any of their parting thoughts you want to share with me thoughts on the project or any other feedback before we bounce? And I think what's important is psychologically nobody wants to be the bottleneck. At least I hope no one wants to be the bottleneck inside of a project. Another business right now, we're thes people are giving me gray hair, but it is what it is. So my personality is I don't want to be the bottlenecks. So I think, um, as a designer, when you're working with a client, they need to understand expectations that what you need from them, right? Derek doesn't have access to my Dropbox. He doesn't have access to my videos, but he But there's certain things that he needs. So what I would strongly recommend is that people love boundaries by the way, we all have. I mean, if you've ever had gotten on a roller coaster like they put something over your head, the first thing you do is you just check it. You check to see where the boundaries are. My kids do that with me. Um, you know, my colleagues do that with me. So toe have a clear relationship or someone feel safe and sick here. I would, you know, again. So Derek's done a good job of sending e mails with. I need this by this, and then there's an expectation. And then there's don't expect that someone could just like, Oh, yeah, I I understand. Like, send them, um, you know, even a friendly reminder like they haven't gotten this yet. Where is this? That and also like, You know, some of these things that that, um we want to deliver inside of this. Just make sure there's because that keeps the ball moving. Because if I'm telling Derrick I need it in three weeks, But I don't give him something for 20 days from now, right? Screwed. Yeah, And that's my fault. So the verbal we put in there especially comes time to for deposit, 25. Estimate Proposal Review: Alright, guys, in this lesson, we're going to talk with Dr Greg in going over the estimate. So in the previous video, we went over and did the discovery phase. Or we learn more about the project on what we're planning to do. And now what we're gonna do is I'm he hasn't seen this yet. So, uh, we did do a pre call before this video just to make sure on the same page, But he hasn't actually seen the estimate that we prepared for him, and I'm gonna show him that now. And I'm gonna walk through the process of what I would do with any client instead of just throwing him the estimate, hoping he figures it out, hoping he sees all the different details that we've pulled out. I'm actually step through and guide him through why we're presenting these options and what we suggested the end of the call. So the distinction here is that it's so easy to draft an email and send it. But you know that your clients are getting, you know, 100 different emails and they've got a lot of different things, especially if they're entrepreneurs. They've got a lot of other decisions to do, and they're looking for you to be the expert and actually tell them what to do is what they're looking for usually. So I don't want to confuse the issue. I do want to give him the options for choice. I like to show three options in this case. Shopify is so straightforward, and I know we're trying to get going on the project quickly. I only showed two basic options, and from there we can a just right now this is just the estimate. Once he chooses what he wants to do, I'll get back with him with a new official. The contract that he'll sign us on the deposit will be often running. So, Dr Grey, how's it going, man? I'm good. I want to touch on that because I'm a type a driver business owner. If you would just emailed me that contract, I will scroll to the bottom as fast as I possibly can, so I can see the price and I'll piss and moan about the price or be mad about the price. And that will keep us one. Probably your mental. Get frustrated why you didn't do what I what I wanted you to do for the project. So having this conversation is really important because it's what expectations. And it's about understanding what people person wants done what they don't want done. And, um so this is a really key part of this conversation and don't So this simply this speaks to your people. Don't feel bad that to know your value and don't feel bad to give prices of things but also understand, understand the difference between, like, how many more hours is option one gonna take me then? Option two. What are the costs for them? Do you know Shopify well enough to know that people didn't do it? Whatever, like a premium theme or something that I'm gonna have some hard cost up front. I'm gonna have some monthly costs. That's all stuff it would be that tells me that you really did some research and, you know, we're going into So I was in that I'm doing great. We're excited about just getting stuff moving forward with this and stoked to be in the cult. Coleman, I am curious. Uh, have you ever experienced this type of thing with anybody else? You worked with us faras them, walking you through t do they usually just lob a pdf out to you and you just get going? I think I I think I And, you know, I think you know me well enough. I think I kind of intimidate some people. I'm just, like, just sent. Just send it to me so I could go through it. And and, uh, because I don't always care for this part because, you know, is this necessary to any to spend this much money is it's a good investment Scheibel to do this myself. I mean, I have always questions that go to an entrepreneur's mind. Um, so I've had both both options. I mean everything from, you know, house plans hiring a builder to developing websites to, you know, back in the day when, um so for those. So for those in the States, they have these things called phone books, if you will used to use. And I'm old enough to have it put ads until almost have with the AB sales person present to me different. How old are you right now? Eso I'm old enough to have taken out full page, Dual full page ads in yellow pages and when they were when they were useful. So yeah. Yeah, All right. So and one thing I want to point out to you mention this before call. We're talk about the sales process, and you guys kind of peel back the curtain for my students. I'm I'm now selling myself and my services and and and And I mean that in, like, the hypothetical way. Not like I'm also going to be selling my services. But I'm also like trying to get him to follow through, like we think we like each other. We think we like what we're doing. We think we're a good fit. But now we're starting to get traction with the attraction with Progress Project. So this becomes critical. So you get to the stage and then you just throw an email. I can't tell what parts of it he likes or doesn't like. If there's any confusion. So the next Becks best thing throws thing to think of it. Like if you're texting somebody, throw attacks out there in the reply. Well, is there a smile smiling emoji with that? Or is it a frown face? Like what? You know What do they think? You can't hear any voice. Okay, So a call was the next best thing. I can hear the infection that told in their voice. Second health, they're angry or happy or whatever. Well, next best is, in this case, a video call where I can see him. I can read his, uh, his demeanor and is Matt mannerisms that right? We're just I can I can read his body language, and I can tell if he's got confusion if he's put off by something, and we can linger a little bit further on one section once we get into this to know how I can address those questions or concerns as we go through it. And then, of course, next best after that is actually in person at a coffee shop or something, which really I feel like this is honestly, just about as good. And so you guys can see that I'm not perfect. Obviously, I really hope. I know you knew that. But when you're presenting with your client, just be human just, you know, have a good time. And I know sometimes we talk about money. People get uptight, but just, you know, be yourself as much as you can. So Ah, nice little intro paragraph that I'm not going to read to you. But I do wanna honestly, that I do want to say thanks for the opportunity work with you again really excited about this project. So options and price points All right, So, like I said, with Shopify, they do so much for you. So most of our Web design things done on WordPress typically start between, like, 2 to $5000 go up to as much as $10,000 for a white projects. Shopify is so straightforward that there's a lot of things that I could cut out, like hosting fees and set up in things. So that's why it's, you know, it's under $1000 which is is pretty pretty great. Um and so the first option is geared towards just getting you up and running with a site that you love, which gives us a lot of head room to grow and improve, but also keeping the cost is minimal as possible. One phase I didn't even present here would be more like a splash page option. We just turn it on and and roll with it. But I know you need more than that. So I didn't even present that as an option. Eso basically 8 50 is what I'm thinking for this, and that would not include a custom theme. The most expensive one I saw the platform was like 180 bucks. I did find a couple that were free that I think would meet the need just fine so we can review that in detail and see once we continue down this path. But that's that's the top end of what that surprise would be. We're going to be implementing your brand. So we did the logo, but we didn't explore colors. We didn't explore fonts or photos or any of that. How that works together as a cohesive brand. So some of this additional cost, you know, is for the living. You look at Shopify, it is very basic, like Dr Greg, you could you could jump in there, And I have full confidence in your ability to, like, throw in some photos throughout some text and you'd be often running. So part of this service that we're providing is actually flushing out that brand dropping your logo, photo shopping and images not just like throwing stuff in but actually making it all feel cohesive and high end. And so we're gonna be going with a one page home home page design. I'll give you a couple rounds of revisions if you know we need to dialled. Something's in, but basically we're doing a custom home page sketch. Your first, your first impression with people land on your website. So that's where we're gonna spend a fair amount of time. You know, making sure that's right, and they're going to set up three up to three static pages. So with text you'll provide that could be in about or contact or history or services page. You know, just basically there's nothing really dynamic years on a product pages just this is think of it like a page in a brochure, right? We're gonna set up up to three products for you, so that's taking your product image. Your product information, your pricing, setting up the product engine of your site. So that way people can actually add it to cart and select the images. And if you've got a gallery, let's say you've got a product with three or four different images. We can add those in there so they can, you know, see the different images of the product. And then with Shopify, they actually have unlimited stock images. So if we want to ADM. Or embellishments on the site or or make it much more, uh, pretty to look at, I guess you could say there's a lot of stock images in there. One thing I didn't including here. Ah, we do have access to a stock library that's got a lot more than most. And so if we needed to, we could purchase stock images to add to that. But we can cross that bridge when get there. Whether that makes sense or not on this far is time for completion. It's, I think we'll have no problem as long as you have your content ready for some of the static pages and stuff which I think you dio, I would say one week from were received the deposit. So once we actually kick off, a project would be about a week toe where you're like, you're done, you're up and running and everything is looking good. Yes. Yeah. And then the second option, little bit Mauritz. It's almost double and really the biggest differences is more static pages. A lot more time invested in actually designing and really crafting a custom experience for people were still using a base theme as the foundation. But we're spending a lot more design time and photo shop, you know, making things look really good on. Then uploading those into the placeholders in the theme we also have. Like I said, more static pages up to 10 products. If you want to add more products, I can do the grunt work and drop all those in for you. And this is one thing that you talked about. It was important, was doing ah, like a vlog page. You're doing videos. We're not really gonna do a blogger, but we would use the blawg functionality of Shopify and well paced in links from your videos that are on video and then do the transcript so it pace in line with that and then again, unlimited stock images. So that's I mean, those are really the two base don't you talked about? I didn't really feel the need to add more to this. And, you know, after you see my approach may be your tell me like, Hey, I can add in the static pages or, you know, I don't have any products yet or whatever you know that could be. This could be a phase one scenario where we get it up and running and then face to could be diving further into that. And then Faras updates $125 an hour. Zarley rate, which you know no contract is. Give me a call, weaken, just dive in. And that's what I built per hour. Or if you wanted to do more of a retainer scenario where you just know that you've blocked out time with me every month. That's a significant, significantly discounted rate at 85 per hour, if we do a five hour chunk 75 per hour for do 10 hours or than 65 an hour, if you do 15 so you see the cost there just as far as like locking my time knowing that when you need something, I'll get right back to you because I've got that slated in our calendar. So that's pretty much it for the estimate billing. We usually do 30% up front to kick off the project in the 30% once we get to our halfway point project, and then once we deliver it, the remaining 40% is due. If you want Teoh, I mean, you won't pay me more front. That's great. To just do a couple checks sometimes is easier for some clients. So that is my estimate, guys. That's pretty much everything. I'm gonna sit back for a second, just kind of see what Dr Greg thinks and see if I'm even close to what he was expecting. And then from there I can get him, you know, the next round, which would be the actual contract based on his feedback. So I'm going to stop the share here so the weekend will talk. I'm actually seems really reasonable just because we've had some pretty sizable WordPress sites put together over the years and and obviously there are a lot more work with a lot more plug ins, so it's it's ah, did you know? Because one of the things that I'm just curious about is like, um, the ability to put in like, uh, someone wants to do, like, a free consultation call with me or even the ability of them to schedule a call or those things that can be put into Shopify. Did you kind of factor the So to get that done? Ah, to be totally honest, there are lots of ways we can do that. I didn't see one within Shopify, but that doesn't mean doesn't exist. I'm pretty new to that platform. But I do know I've in the past used things called Calendar. Lee is one of them, and the other one was, There's one other one. So basically we do is we didn't bed that. So you have another account with them specifically. Probably not paying, depending on the options you want trying to remember the one that I use I've used. I used one with my last website where it was great. I could put in my availability and length of calls. Um, I have the same thing. For whatever reason, I'm drawing a blank on the name of it. but yeah, And then, depending on your price point of what you subscribe to that service, you can have them send automatic text message reminders. So if you've scheduled to call, you have more likely people will show up because they get a text Timmons before saying, Hey, don't forget about your call, that kind of stuff. So I don't know if shop Liza built in engine for that, but as far as adding it later or immediately, like, we can definitely cook that in right away. So the way it would work will use one of those services. They'll give us an embed code. We'll just copy and paste it right into a page that be like one of your static pages. It could be a schedule or consultation page and the and then you can log in there, and I think we're and I know that we can do the log in for the store because one of the company's I work with, as you mentioned, we can't display pricing. All right, um, and I think my wife and I talked yesterday, but I think initially miss might be crazy for us to think that I think were initially gonna were gonna warehouse distribution center out of our house until we get to a certain point. Or like, this is just more than we want to deal with. Yeah, And then then I'll just go to a distribution center and we'll stop the distribution center , let them do the shipping. So and so That reminds me one of the thing that is not priced out on this yet. And that is because we didn't get to it in your discovery phase, and that was my fault. But the actual shipping settings and configuring your store. So, for example, are you using stripe or using pay, pal? I mean, how are we collecting the funds and sinking that up excusing sinking that up with Shopify? So I know that looking at the documentation is pretty straightforward. I'm assuming you could just take a crack at that drop in your stuff, and you're often running. But is that something you want me to kind of know? I'm familiar enough tonight, I've done both stripe and paypal and I'll play just go PayPal to start on this animal mental shops. Um, competitiveness of rates. Yeah, but, um, I'll be curious to that right? Like, this is not a question for you, but like just with striped wipe a stripe of feet. Plus, so I pay good it's gonna be mindful of. Yeah, how much I'm giving to the machine. Yeah, make this happened, then I think I also look that there's different levels of, like, a $29 a $79 her month. And I don't know that I need anything really fancy with lots of reports. So I'm pretty sure that I could probably get by with, like, the $29 store. And it seemed like you get a 14 day trial at the moment of this recording that they say So it seemed like Then you roll over into the next paid version and you can upgrade it any point and get the extra creature features like the reporting you mentioned and things like that. So as long as it does and you're confident because I think that that's not something I've had to address yet. But you said you've got a friend who's doing something similar. Who knows that the prices could be hidden until their log in as a user. It so as long as you're confident that shop. If I can do that because I never had to do that before then we'll be in good shape. Yeah, yeah, I know that. Yeah. And his did ask him. He said he's built on Shopify, so Yeah, I guess so. At this point, I just need to, um, get that even from you with these numbers and I'll sit down with my wife, and I'm pretty sure that we're gonna lean towards a little bit more robust build. But I just want to clarify that with my wife as ah, that's how you do business when you're after. Yeah. And ah. And then and then. So on the next call, then is that so? So I guess it really, At this point, it's we tell you which one you want to do, and then you're going to send me a contract, and then I'll get you 30% down. Yeah, And then and then what will you need from me too? Get that next phase going because I have done the logo, but we really haven't done colors and stuff. Is that like what's the next step for us? Yeah, for sure. Deposit so if you haven't already. And I know you've got that site that you've been looking at as a kind of a springboard for you. Yeah, if you haven't already, you know, work with whatever you're comfortable with. And they've been sending me pages, documents. That's great for me to. So if you want, you know, basically craft your website, but in pages as faras text or at least get me close, we can work together on your marketing strategy and some ideas on what actually goes in there. I know. In the last course logo design course, we talked about how you're part of a mastermind group where you might get some feedback from them as far as what content you actually drop in there cause I could make the pretty set in the world. But if your calls to action that right, it's not gonna work for you. So back to the discovery call. When I asked you if this is a success, what would you define it like, what would you define this product as success? And so the content is a huge part in that in our speaking to the right audience, are we showing right calls to action. So you definitely want to spend some time because you know your market better than I do. So we're gonna be leaning on you heavily for that. My in this specific phase. A specific project. I'm trying to get you into the marketplace and trying to lob the site up online so it works as a Web design project. What's awesome is you can change it every minute. If you wanted to, we could log in and change it every hour. So we're trying to get us up this get this scope of work completed. Give it some time to evaluate. Is it working? Do we need to refine some things? You want to add some things, And then we can always roll back into that retainer option we talked about. Or I could do in another estimate for another scope of work Once we kind of see you know, this is working. How you expected it to a star is next up for you. Yeah, Talk with Rachel. Figure out what? You know what ballpark you want to be in for this? I can add. And as far as a callin, callin glee or the house taking myself. Remember the other one, um, suiting up phone. I can look it up and look, but yeah, I would say for that I can I can either get you details. That can just I can honestly just add that in this No big deal. Just literally toe link to get that working. If you want to set that up, if not again, we can step in and help. Um, next steps would be we discover what you want. I would, I mean, not that it matters cause you're gonna be paying for it. But, you know, if your for my students, if you're diving in with the client, maybe wait to set that up until you know you're going because you've got that countdown timer starting for two weeks to try it out. So you don't want to start an account, but then not have it ready to go yet. And then if they're ready in three weeks we'll never gonna pay for it immediately. And you haven't done anything yet and they don't know if they like it. So we'll wait toe fire that up until we know Rolling. And I got to do more research on that because usually with WordPress and other stuff we use our own account will set it up and they will hand off user names and passwords to you in this case, just so there's no gray lines. And again, I don't how Shopify works on that side of things I might have you set up the account with your own email, your own password and then you can just email me the log in information. And then that way you have the keys to your kingdom all throughout Russia process. So I'm a huge fan of I know a lot of Web developers like to charge extra for hosting and have everything kind of, you know, self contained and self controlled. And in my experience, at some point along the way, one of you will probably outgrow the other person. Whether I get too busy, I can't help you anymore, or you need bigger things when I'm able to do so rather than, you know, making it kind of a messy marriage at the end of things. I like you just being able to be. You have all the control, and I don't like you called it at. Would you call it a M? Blocking the funnel? I figured you called it. Um, I called us. What was that? Bottleneck? Bottleneck? That's the one. I call it a speed bump. Don't be a speed bump in your process or a bottleneck. So that's why I like to do that. I understand because I had built homes before and I've done things where I understand that we're gonna get into a direct proof. Um, so we thought this, but I did some research and we couldn't do it this way, and I actually think this story is probably better. And here's what it costs. I think it's really important to have that conversation on the front end, because if we say it's 663rd 50 bucks and now it's 2500 bucks and I didn't quite understand the process there. Then I'm confused and frustrated. But if we go Hey man, just just know that Shopify changes like every day and just know that I'm gonna be on top of them with their customer support and inside of their thing. And we're gonna we're gonna know what's best for your system. And we're gonna try to do things, even come up during the design process. So you just willing to have honorable Don't Yes, and what I would throw into that we mentioned in the last video. But I talked about breaking up into phases. If budget is an issue for your client and or to protect you from what we call scope creep. So you have what's s ow or scope of work? It's It's what are the what are we doing with this part of the project, right? And so the scope of this project is he's going to get a website we're gonna get online's gonna look beautiful by the time it's all said and done, will have some pages. What places for people to actually buy some stuff like We've got a pretty clear scope of work. OK, so there shouldn't be many surprises if there's a little bit of surprise, like with Web design, there are. There's always something that breaks, if you like, but but not something that's gonna double your budget. If that happens, then you said yes to things where you should have said, Hey, can't wait to do that for you. Let's finish this part of the project first, this phase, the scope, whatever. And then once we're all said and done with this, we get it up. Then what we'll do is I'll prepare a separate estimate for you to see what it takes to add these extra features you wanted to add. So that's how you keep things on budget on time, delivered on time clients happy without it turning into this like, you know, a lot of clients they think about all the time they're cost of is their project. Is there baby. And so, while they're thinking about it at night, like you could be at this and now they're looking at other sites. Like all we should add one of those. We should add an interactive map. We should add this. We should have this, and all of a sudden, you like Whoa, dude, Time out. Like we can. We will. But let's let's let's finish this first. So anyway, yeah, that my approach. Yeah. Awesome answer. Yes. I think we have a good understanding. Eso get the contract over, dust will get signed. And then will you have, like, a PayPal link Or like how do we pay you? What? Yeah, exact. So you can cut us a check. You have the address and the name on there or when I send. So I use, uh, app called harvest Go to get harvest dot Com, I think is, I think is what it is. So how we track my time when I when I generate an invoice, it has a PayPal link right in there For those of you can also use QuickBooks. You can also use PayPal directly. So but I use harvest, so yeah, what? We'll do is we'll send that out to you, can accept it and pay the deposit and will be often running. So one thing I want to circle back to is you mentioned the calendar and scheduling for this for this project. So I didn't really have that in the budget. So I would say that will cost me like nothing toe add if you do the legwork, set it all up, and then I'm just thrown in like an embed code, which I'm assuming that you're good with. But if you want Are you? I mean, is that what we're thinking? Yeah, I could totally just, you know, my mastermind to see what calendar program people are using and who likes life, and then just choose that one roll of it. So I'm using acuity scheduling. That's the one that I couldn't think of. Security scheduling dot com tellingly dot com is another one that have used in the past. Um, but I've been on the other side where I'm the client scheduling with somebody. So those willing to I have experience with Yeah, I'm curious what what they go with, but yeah, if it's just ah embedding a calendar. No, big deal. We just add that inside is not a big deal at all. Project Scope Revisions and Clarifying Call: All right, guys, in this be what we're gonna do is a quick, clarifying call with Dr Greg. It's been about a month since we started this project. As you can see in our backgrounds, I've moved. He's moved. We both moved within about a week of each other. I'm about a week ahead. You concede my background, I've got my shelf up. He's slacking, but it's okay. So what we want to do now is, you know, sometimes in projects, you know, life happens in between, right? So we've been in communication about postponing the project and getting set back up, and now we're diving back in. But we've had a month to think about things and just kind of clarify the direction. So that's what this call is about is just to make sure that we're still on the same page. We do have some things to change and modify, but that's that's kind what we're doing. So that's this Calls about Dr Greg had some ideas for you and just wanted to make sure on the same page. So, you know, for those of you who are just tuning into this video offline, have had probably what three or four calls in between. So we're gonna kind of skip over some of that, uh, but just kind of peel back the curtains that you guys watch his phone call, but I'm just gonna die right in just to kind of save everybody's time here and get right to it. So, um, I've been going back through this morning. I was looking through our notes, looking through everything that you've sent me over the last few weeks. And your tag line we were just talking about offline was your unfair advantage. And also, you talked about wanting to be specifically training. I'm working with athletes and high performers. And as I was looking at that, I had an idea. It was Let me look at my other screen here just a second. So had, like, it was a custom. And then I had Princz. I wasn't sure exactly what solutions for athletes and high performers. So custom. Was it supplement or custom medical? You said functional medicine. So maybe maybe, ah, functional medicine solutions for athletes and high performers as kind of the next main. Because if we get to your website, it's my doctor Greg and I see, You're unfair advantage. Does that mean you're giving me testosterone shots? So you're giving me, like, a terrible A terrible from Ford F 1 50 year? Yeah. Or even, like, uh, what's the not creating? What's the steroids, you know, is sterile, like, is this Is this, like, an illegal thing we're doing here? Because, you know, unfair advantages for athletes? Like it makes me think so. I think we want to use the term personalized. Okay, because personalized means, if it's for you for customized, is actually kind of like, Not really. It just means I've made something that's custom, and it works for everyone. So I like the concept of personalized. I am personalized. Functional medicine. Okay. Personalized, functional medicine for athletes and high performers. How's that sound that still knits you down? I just want to be careful that I'm not if you know if if Suzie Q with the bad thyroid says I'm not a athlete or high performer. Yeah. So I work with him. Sure. Well, that may be the answer is no. Based on what you and I have learned about, you know, focusing our target demographic. And so and if you get that Susie Q or whatever. Who is a friend or a friend of a friend like? Yeah, you still work with her. But to make it on your website like this is your Because you talked about your daughter being in a crossfit gym. And I'm just seeing the need for all this. And now one of the question I had because I'm I'm not like I hear the term functional medicine all the time. But I don't know that I could honestly tell you what that really means. So maybe and I and I and I would I would parallel this for my students watching this. When you talk with the client and you're talking about like, I want to be modern or want to look grungy or wanted to look classical or whatever like what that means to me, it means something totally different to you. So for functional medicine, is there multiple definitions of what that like? Do we need to? There is a super catch. You at super catchy right now. I think once but people always say, Well, what is that exactly? Yeah, so and, you know, and even even the term Yeah, I like I like function mentioned. It's a highly search term. Yeah, when I was in my last medical practice, we were like, number one in the search terms for functional medicines. People were searching for it. Sure, Uh, though there needs to be a quick video or a quick like, what is personalized, functional medicine. Like I need to shoot a video that answers that question. Sure. Um, maybe you never get says, Well, what if I'm You know what? I'm not an athlete or a high performer, and we could we could answer that. But again, I don't wanna be inclusive, but also too much exclusivity is also could be back to sure. I think I like the term unfair advantage. Only because, like, who doesn't want unfair advantage? Yeah, and it sounds better than dirty little secret. Yeah. Yeah, well, and that's where I want to clarify, because the word unfair advantage, like, on the one hand, like it's a negative. The word, you know, unfair feels negative and so tryingto That's okay. But we do want to balance that, uh, just, um and maybe that's not good. Maybe it maybe my tagline is is personalized functional medicine for athletes and high performers. Yeah. Sorry. So Okay. So for everybody at home, Yeah. This is me trying to wire frame while we're talking, and it's really crappy. Usually I would use rulers and stuff, but the point is, just like every other. This is this is easy to do. Every other websites gonna have a logo and your navigation. Right? So it's kind of a given. This is a giant slider space. While I'm actually okay, everything's backwards on my screen. Okay? This would be like a pretty photo of Dr Greg looking all tan and, you know, dapper whatever. And then, um, you know, so the base of the tagline I'm basically when you get here above above the fold, Which which would be, you know, if you to a website, You only see this much of it, like Okay, what do we see in here? And when you scroll, you know what is functional medicine? And that's what we could have a video of you. Or maybe the videos read the top. Maybe it's the very first thing, and it's like a giant play button right in the middle in it. I don't know. So I'm gonna I'm gonna spend some time thinking about this. But as you're telling me these things I'm trying to figure out what's our I call a hierarchical structure was the very first thing was the most important thing when they get there and also we're telling a story. So we got to catch them and introduce them to both him and you know him as a brand and also , you know, identifying their problem. If I'm looking for you, can you solve my problem? And I want to know before you went to scroll and so those That's why I'm trying to clarify . Yeah, like that. We're taking this some of your calls. It the grant test, right? Like a cave man looks at your website. Exactly. Don't know what you do just by looking at it. Think there's three. There's three main goals. Too big. Big goals of the site. One tertiary goal so that the number one goal of this site is too build my virtual functional medicine practice. Uh, I would like to get to the point where I think I can manage 500 people will need a team for that, but I want 500 patients that are utilizing my functional medicine Practice number two is I want a pretty bitchin supplements store. Like, I want people to come here, and they are so sorry. I'm 41. I was gonna say that. That's how Do you know, uh, I want I want a relevant supplements store. I want people that may not even be my patient to come to my doctor Greg dot com because that's where they get really good quality supplements. They know what they're getting their know, whether you know why they're using it. And in some cases, it's like I said, get certain things. Sure. Okay. And then the third thing and this is ways down would be just a professional site for me. Hey, I looked. I found you. Yeah, you're cool. I found you all You do public speaking. Oh, you work with professional athletes. Oh, you'd show you owe you. That's kind of that. When someone searches Dr Greg Motion on Google. I want this site that come up when I want them to be, like, nice, Okay? And then, uh, I had back in my notes. We had a couple sites. One waas doctor will write that down. It's over here. Cole. Yeah, I had his you had. What was he, the one that had, like, the really pretty photos in the organic looking? He was, like, in kind of a sport coat? Or is that somebody else? Which one? Yeah, that sounds like him. So Ah, when we when we made your logo, we had looked at some of your old stuff. That was kind of a neon green look to it. Do you want a nod to that color scheme at all that you want to start over? And do you have any ideas on where you want to go? No ties to any colors whatsoever. Okay. All right. All right. Um, so I like. So we're still Are we still thinking about keeping? Sorry. I'm a little bit all over the place. I'm just trying to kind of check boxes that had written down. Uh, when I get excited, I get all over the place. So that's why it's nice to have kind of a checklist. Whole pack, too. Um, so to make sure we lock this down, we've got we talked about your unfair advantage. But then we just talked about personalized, functional medicine for athletes and high performers are we still haven't exactly what I do . Yeah. So someone's like That's what I need. That's when looking for, then that's what I do. Yeah. Okay. All right. And then how would you define functional medicine, or can you send me a word? Doc? We had talked about you kind of pulling together some text. Do you have any of that yet? Yeah, I think that would be I don't have that. But that's something that I could shoot a video earlier. Yeah, Doctor, my doctor Greg, video list is sitting right here. Nice. Three steps to become a patient. Who is Dr Greg? What type of training did you receive? Are you a medical doctor? Do you prescribe medications. The exact insurance actually come to see you. How long will treatment take how much dysfunction medicine cost? How kind of him. A good fit for Dr Greg. What does it mean to have an unfair advantage? I couldn't even say I look at you with the functional medicine hygienic slave factor. Don't guess. Test. Did I have, like, 19 video allows? That probably would be a super clarifying here. Okay, I'd like to shoot those in a pro level and maybe find a setting here that I could do that. But I can send you this document, and you could be like Okay, well, I'm gonna add to it right now. So from because we're using Shopify for this store we're probably going to do. And I know you've got a video account. Uh, I'm assuming we're in a post them on vimeo and embed the link. I don't think that is probably the best. Just because of the meal I paid for little bit nicer set up there, and, uh, yeah. Okay, then I can understand how toe go in and tweak the settings to use. That kind of helps. Okay. All right. And then from a product perspective. When we first started this, you were thinking of like, I think they were, like, two products Are those two products and you something that may grow site, bro. Burrows has two products, right? Right. So I was going to say that this was gonna have, like, 50 to 75 maybe even more if we try to push the store thing. Because here's the thing that I'm gonna do. I'm looking over here because I have settlement shells, but I'm not gonna distribute these things. I'm essentially gonna just drop ship everything. Yeah. So I'll put the majority of two of my favorite companies catalog on my site and then and don't take the strong, but, I mean, some doctors just took a job of taking care of their patients. Yeah, So I want those patients like a I find your stuff online. I'm just buying it there. Yeah, so it is what it is. So then, from the drop ship perspective, cause I know you spent some time chatting with the Shopify team, did you broach that topic criminal as faras? How they pull it off? Uh, that's not really What? What? I'm figuring that will have to do is when an order comes in based upon, like the how we delineate the item. I'll have to have a personal assistant say, Okay, I need or this this and this from this place and missing this from this place and I'll get sent to Okay, so we'll look at, um, remember, I should use a beer. Yeah, if that there's some sort of, like, tie in for drop shipping and then Ah, Missy. And or so Shopify has a ton of plug ins. I'm actually gonna be working on one of my own sites here to do, like, T shirts and stuff that are branded more for my Yeah, so I'm really excited about that. And that's why I'm curious. Like which the company's you're working with the big variables. Like I know shop. If I can do it, it's more so, like, how does it tie in with your distributors and how one company I bet I could eight the Iraq to them because they're pretty up. Okay. Other company is gonna require a phone call or an email sent to them that says, um okay, this and this goes to this address use this card. Yeah, okay. And then I'll be a work in progress. So Phase one will definitely be. You've got a website up you've got like, at the very least, it will be a lead capture machine and or a soft sail companion. And what I mean by that we've talked about this with my web site. You know, it's been up for what, like, 12 years? Something like that. And I think to date have done maybe three jobs that have been completely organic. Where they found the site to contacted me. We did business. I made money, right? Most of the time. It's somebody else told somebody about me or, you know, whatever. But they happened. Look, my like, Oh, yeah, he knows what he's doing and then, you know, we're doing business. But it wasn't that wasn't the lead generator. So for you were hoping to get, you know, we'll probably run some ads. We could do some ad campaigns, your Facebook or Instagram or Google ads. What there's. There's a lot of ways to skin that cat if you want to use that as your analogy, but we don't skin cats here anyway, and they're not pitching. It is not even I haven't even had my coffee yet. It's barely. Yeah, whatever. It's it's early. So, um, all that to say, Uh, there we can We can continue to refine this, but the first phase of this is for sure, going to get you a solid website up and running quickly that we can continue to add to and figure those things out as we go. So awesome. And and then so on this also, right, Um, because I'll probably have a clinic here in Minnesota. Um, And for those that aren't here in Minnesota, they'll be a free discovery call. Remember? We need to build a put that little candle, anything in there or whatever, Which one we talked about. Okay. That calendar schedule plug in? Yeah, we would. I'd research them, and we found that one was, like, way cheaper than another one. But that would probably have to go back, like, six miles into a text. Me to figure that out. My, uh but that's but that's going to the flow. So we have to talk about the flows to rights of the flow of functional medicine. Patient is one of two ways number one is they physically walk into a clinic in Minnesota and see me. Um and then secondly, they get on a discovery call or to even get a discovery call, even if they want to come see me in minutes. But it'll be a free discovery call, and then the next step is an initial evaluation, and that could be either virtually or in person. And then from there, then I manage these people on. Some people will get phone calls with me, someone based upon the level of need of mind that they have. Okay, let me. So we're gonna do one of two ways in the flow. You physical physically walk into a clinic or free discovery call, which they'll have big discovery. Call us free Discovery call. And then from there into a clinic or virtually into a clinic for initial evaluation or a virtual initial violation, like a zoom. Okay. Uh, all right, either. Sorry. My pages is like auto, correcting everything I'm doing to the wrong words and super distracting. Anyway, Some like that's why I missed what you said this. And then once they do the initial evaluation, then they'll either choose the bronze silver gold package of care with me, which either has a monthly or a yearly fee. Okay. And then based upon their gold, silver or bronze, they get different. A catchments with that, whether it's phone calls. But they also I think I have it set up now where silver and gold get a slight supplement discount. So we want to build two sets of parameters with their log in into the supplement store. Okay, So that they can just knows that they're a gold member and they get 10% off, for example. Okay, uh, I probably don't so for my students here, So I'm I could replay this call and make sure I'm not missing anything, but, ah, when you're in person meeting and you're not recording a call, you don't have that luxury. So make sure you guys are taking good notes with rights on paper or typing it up. One thing I hesitate if you're meeting at a coffee shop or something, Um, translate technology in the way. So if you're sitting and you got a laptop in front of you and you know between you and your client, it's a little bit ah, that is I would bring area. It is, Yeah. And then, you know there's a chance for notifications of that turns off. There's a lot of ways to get started with distracted with technology. May be the wife eyes down. Exactly, Man, for your students, Anderson, these things. This is a sheet of paper then And then there's this is this is a pen, the simple device that we're right on the sheet of paper. So very personal. All right, I got it. E hate moving. I always want to, like, pull up the box. I've got this really swing Richard Branson. You never go to a meeting without a notebook in your hand. He ever Yeah. So I've got the swanky leather leather. It's a Levinger, like it's got my initials are stamped into the leather bound folio. Um, and I use the off topic I used. Yeah. Hello. This is made from the flow. I look at that. See? Leave it to the doctor to just one up me, like not even that, Like 10 X just right. It's gonna drive me. That's not OK. Anyway, I use so I like I use a little Levinger, but not just any. Like Levinger like this is like super swanky, thick, nice and soft, right? Like it matters. And I have a little pin pouch of the care, like my nicest pens with me. So that's how I roll up into my meetings with your bag, Like my leather folio. Like I mean business when I roll in, right? I look the part. So even before we even started saying anything, they trust me because, like, man, this guy's like, gotta stuff together, right? Anyway, I digress. Um, cool, man. I'm feeling pretty good about this. So I think what we're gonna do for next steps is I have if you want to work on pulling together your word, doc, or I just said that to you. I said that. I said video list. You perfect. So I think what if you could, um, prioritized what you would need to start? And maybe it's all of them, and that's fine. That I just need Teoh Oh, God. A studio and go shoot a bunch. I if you've got the list, I can make a home for it and we can add as we go, honestly, the most important thing before, like when we turn your site on and they go to my doctor, Greg dot com, something has to live there, right? So it's the first impression. What's the first thing? So I'm gonna probably jump into. It's tough. I work. I work a couple different ways. Sometimes. If it's you know, it's a higher end budget. I'll work from scratch on Photoshopped Document. Ill designed it exactly. I wanted to be if it's, ah, fast and furious kind of a project, which this one kind of is, um, we want it done. We don't want to agonize over the design too much. I'll start with a theme within shop, a fire within WordPress or whatever we're building and I'll and I'll get it close, right? I'll get it. I'll build on whatever the theme. Looks like another kind of arm. Wrestle it into place with colors and fonts and images, and it goes a long way, saved a lot of time and still has a really professional result. So that being said, um, we've already set up your website, I've logged in. I've added a couple pages to it already, just kind of playing with things, so I need that Dropbox folder you sent me. I need to go in there, find a couple like T. Ah, yeah, Send it to me if you can have some from the top of my chat thread. Um, and then, um so usually I would pull for my students usually had pull it together in one folder, and I kind of started that. And then I moved and he moved and he texted it to me. So I kind of got lost in the shuffle. Um, but we'll pull it together, I'll find a hero shot. And then you might even replace that photo with that video like you talked about. If you want to shoot a welcome video to the website, that might end up being at the top. But it's gonna be a modular. Sites would be really easy to swap that in and out. But my goal is to get, you know, a true landing page, a home page, don, so we can turn this thing on almost immediately, and then we can start adding pages to it once that styles done. So you're about your contact Your what is functional medicine, your booking and appointments and all those pages we're going to start adding to this thing . Ah, your products turning on the store, All that kind of stuff can be added even after the site or the live. Sometimes it's nice to have everything done first and approved in, then turned on for the world to see. Ah, but in this case, you know, you're gonna have minimal traffic right now. We just get it on, get it up. Start kind of refining it as we go. So, um, I'm gonna work on that. Taubman work on the home page, designed first and foremost, and then ah, we can we can kind of backfill from there. So I feel pretty good about it. I'm excited, Diamond. And what does any of the thoughts you have about it? But I think No, no, like we've talked about this. Well, I'm excited to go. That's when these things works. Like, now we're in your space. Yeah. Uh, I met some good people. It looks like the clinic is gonna be a good move on. I got my license is applied for which is a whole Another crazy thing. So, yeah, so this is good. Awesome, man. Cool. So again, we're the number one things with anything is your communication making sure that whatever promises I threw out there are met or or even exceeded, So from right now, we need to a couple that need to set our milestone for timing. So I'm gonna get crunch on this right away today. And then, um, usually, I would give myself at least two or three days before I show them anything in the next phase. You know, whether life happens, or uhm, I'm not feeling creatively and go for a walk and come back and or maybe I run into a problem or, you know, things happen, but I don't want to drop the ball. So I would say OK in the next three or four days. Ah, have some updates. We look at our my side by the leak. Um, honestly for you, Dr Graham, I didn't check with you later today because this is literally what I'm working on right now , but, um OK, I'll get cracking on. Advanced Theme Editing and Problem-Solving: all right. In this lesson, I want to talk to you about customizing your theme and problem solving. Now, we're not gonna get into the nitty gritty because there's just so many different ways that you could approach this. So I'm going to show you how I approach it as well as how I go about finding solutions, because most likely you're not gonna be using the same theme is I'm using. And even if you are, by the time you watch this and actually get into it, it might have already changed by now. So I want to show you that, uh, that workflow that I go through because I want you to be able to rinse and repeat this no matter what theme you're using. And you know, no matter how far down the road you are in your career, as things change, being a problem solver is gonna be a huge part of being successful. So with that said, I'm just gonna start with the first thing that I do. Usually I start with some sort of piece of paper. This one's already ripped and all messed up because I used it for something else. But I usually have a notebook or something on my desk that I can take notes and just kind of quickly do a brain dump of what I'm trying to achieve. So in this case, as I look at the screen on the left hand side, I've got an image of Dr Greg with text over the top. And I wanted to be more like the image on the right where the text to scoot over a little bit and he's not faded out quite as much. So I actually go through and I write down the steps that I'm trying to achieve. So, you know, nudge text over, lighten the image, and I might have to re crop the image. Okay, so that would be my approach. So that way, as I get into a project, I'm not forgetting what I set out to achieve. Okay, so then the next thing I'll do, typically I have. In this case, it's hard to see because my cameras wire frame that I kind of quickly sketched out just to kind of remind myself the direction we're heading as well. So again, you can do whatever you want, but this is my approach. So within Shopify. Specifically, there's some different places, defined settings for these things. So first I wanted to try and tackle. How do I make the background image not faded out like this and I didn't know how to do it. So I did a quick searching Google said how to remove gray overlay from images. And I found somebody else had already gone through this. I was like, Okay, so I went through trying to do some more complicated coding and we'll get to this in the end of this video. But long story short, that wasn't the solution. So I had to search for another way. And that also wasn't the solution. Long story short, I found somebody who had posted and I was just really overthinking this theme. So I went in here to my customizing the debut. Ah, theme. And under theme settings, I found colors. And again this was me, Google, you know, searching because I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on, but it's under image overlays. This was set to 40%. So for you up here, let it update their Ugo. You see that it has that overlay. Well, that's a simple dragon drop fix, but it's not always going to be that simple. So the next thing Waas if we look at back at how it used to be, this text is right over his head. And so my my first approach without having to get into the code. Because if we have different images that come up, I don't want this to work on Lee for this type of slide. I don't have to re at the code every single time. So ideally, I just pick a different image that would work without having toe align this differently. So then the next approach I did, I jumped into photo shop and this was the first banner I made. And if we start with what the image was to begin with, it was this and I didn't have his extra background. Clearly, I was doing something else here I was building over the top of something. Anyway, you can see my messy workflow here, but ah, what I did is I just clone the background. And then I added this burned overlay to kind of help blend it so didn't look quite so fake . Okay, but what I need to do now is I want to crop it more on the left hand side, which would force his head to scoot over to the left, giving room for the text. So I re cropped the image like this. If I go back to the original, go back to this, you can see we lose his hand in the first image, we had the watch in his hand and have a more space on the left. And I just cropped that out and re upload the image back into Shopify. And you can see that helped a lot as well. I actually think this is where I was at. So then what I want to do is I warn the forces text over even further. So you see, in this version the text falls right about here, which is pretty much centered. And in this version it nudges to the right. So again, following my list of what I was trying to achieve, riding down loosely high wanted to approach this, I went back and searched for how to figure that out. And to be honest, I couldn't find anybody had already done that. So the next thing I did for those of you who are developers already have this skill. I just right clicked. I'm using Google Chrome and I clicked on inspect and now it opens up this window where I can scroll through and I can quickly see what each element is. So as I hover over this, I can see that this div is the hero inner. So when I click on this, I can play. If you guys know CSS or any kind of coding, you can come in here and kind of mess with things. For those of you who have a general working knowledge, this is another tool you have in your toolbox to be able to basically arm wrestle these themes into or mold them into whatever you want them to be. So what I did, I just added a 10 actually a left. I went padding left. I was just trying to figure out how to kind of get this where I wanted it to be without having to spend too much time element. OK, so patting left, I think I added like a 10% left padding, So basically just trying to force this text to the right a little bit so added some left padding here. Okay, again, I know it's ugly. I know there's better ways to do it. I probably should just add in light of this padding here, but a one believe as much of the original code intact while I was experimenting just to see if it would work and what might break in this process. So it's a lot of trial and error. Okay, So knowing that that was going to fix it for me, I had to find this dot hero inner styling. Okay, so again, I went back to Google and I searched how to update that the debut theme and come to find out. And I'll show you here how you can do this if I come back into my themes, actually, open this on a new window so I don't lose my place here. Hold on. Look, man keen, click or control on a PC to open a new tab on any link you click on. All right, I'll click on online store. They're coming down on my themes on this drop down under actions, I can click on edit code. So this opens up everything for you guys to come in and make this your own if you want to. Literally. Everything is built out in here. All the templates, the layouts, sections and snippets. Okay, so this is where I discovered the assets for this theme under theme dot s C s s dot liquid . If I click on that, this is basically everything that style izing this theme. Okay, so I'm gonna go back to this other window that I had open and I hit command F for control F on a on a PC, and I searched for that term that I found If I come back over here, I found this class of hero inner. So I copied that text that I pasted it into my search box here and again that came up by hitting command F for control f just searching for everything within this window. OK, so I pasted that and I found underlying 6258 the same styling that I saw. Oh, man. Now I'm getting crazy that I saw right down here. Okay, So quick Recap we wrote, Right click. We did the inspect we found We just were hovering over things until we found the box that text was in, made the change down here and saw what the class waas. And then I went back over to the main theme files searched for that class. So now I can actually physically change these on the files that Aaron Shopify. So what we're gonna do is I'm gonna come down in here and I see the original padding that they had in here. And so I just added a line right below it. I literally went in clicked, hit return, added my chunk of text. And then I put this comment in here Derek padding for the new home image. Just so if it broke or didn't work, I wanted to. And let's say close this window when I open it back up and I search again. I knew that if I searched for Derek, that's the only line of code, and all of this is going to say my name. So take me right to it immediately. You could do whatever you want again. This is me just trying to get through this quick trying to find quick solution, see if it's even gonna work. And just again that trial and error in problem solving All right. So I went ahead and I saved this. I went back to my home page are my, uh, my my dashboard. Let's see where we're at here. We'll just go back to my dashboard. Well, we're down to the online store. We'll click view your store and now I can see that my text has been shifted to the right that overlays turned off. And Dr Gregg's face doesn't have text over the top. So I know there was a lot of stuff I know it went pretty fast. The purpose of this was not for you to be able to follow along with this video exactly as much as it was to maybe show you how to think about starting to solve your problems as you approach designing a website and how you approach, you know, making changes on things. And if you have any ways that you like to go about, were researching a project, whether that's Google or how you approach this kind of problem trial and trial and air, you know, problem, solution, path. I'm gonna show you how I worked with photos and how I optimize them using photo shop. So they load quickly on any Web browser and also work across multiple devices, whether it's an iPhone Android device or a giant desktop screen. So let's go in and dive in now. We recently updated the slider, the home page image for Dr Greg, and we don't have any products yet. And I actually had a phone call from him that he wants to publish the home page and get up and running because he has an event this weekend. So we're gonna go ahead and accelerate the timeline, which isn't a big deal at all. Let's just go ahead and remove this featured section real quick. I'll click on there and click Remove section, and now it's brought up this text and image section right underneath the home page slider. So I've already dropped in some text, and now we just want to get this square photo dropped in there. And there's a few ways we can do this, the quickest and easiest if you don't have a ah, a photo to drop in for yourself or for your client is just to click on. Explore free images here and you can search for literally anything. Or you can scroll down through these categories that have already been, uh, pulled together for you so we could go toe beauty and make up. Or maybe adventure hiss faras like fitting with health, lifestyle or good vibes or nature. So I'll go and click in maybe just nature and just kind of see what we get here. And this guy climb out of Mountain might fit perfectly with dealing with functional medicine and staying healthy so I could drop that in. And I noticed right away that it actually through this in as a portrait style photo so we can actually change the dimension of this photo and this photo placeholder. I'll go ahead and click Select, and now I have a vertical portrait photo that's been dropped in. I can change the alignment, and we should be good to ***. So there's one approach to dropping in an image. It's literally point and click. It couldn't be simpler, but perhaps you have a photo that you want to work with, and you're trying to make it fit within this as well as optimize it so it loads fast. So what we're gonna do is I'm going to jump into the photo that I have of Dr Greg that I want to put in that spot. And as I look at this, this is a great photo. A tells the story of him. He feels personable. He's still feels like a doctor, you know, he's got his watch and his tie on. So he's looking very professional, but he's not wearing a white lab coat, so it's a little bit dressed down. I guess you could say for a doctor, I feel like that's, you know, just my opinion, but we're gonna drop this in there if I scroll back to this page. I do like how this blue from his shirt kind of rolls right down in the blue from the sky. So, you know, perhaps this is something that maybe I'll leave here. Actually, this was kind of happy accident as I'm recording this video so I might leave that here and let him take a look at it to see what he thinks. I like the flavor of that. I like that it's somebody's back because by not having a face as humans. When we look at a picture, the first thing we notice is eyes in your face. And so rather than, you know, seeing that and being distracted, this kind of feels a little more. I mean, I guess if you're a white male, uh, kind of niches you down to that. But I guess it feels mawr. Um, if ambiguous is the right word, but or generic where this could be anybody you know, this could be you or me, and obviously maybe not Nam's rambling, but when I'm throwing in images, I'm thinking about so much more than just always This pretty I'm trying to feel are trying to look at doesn't match. Does it feel like it blends with the brand? So these air all thoughts that I go through as I edit photos for the website. So I'm gonna go ahead and I'm going Teoh, click save up here on the top. Right? And I didn't mean to drop this in. Like I said, as I'm teaching you, this was kind of happy accidents. I'm gonna come back in the top, left to my main sections. I'm actually going to add another section come back down to image with text, which is the same thing we had above. And this time I'm going to flip flop thes. So first you gotta click. Add, otherwise it won't actually keep. The change is so click add and now its added that section and I'm going to change the image alignment from left to right to have a nice staggered effect. OK, the other thing I like about where this is going. If I come back to this photo of Dr Greg, his body is slightly positioned toe where it's opened up facing towards the left of my screen. So if his image, if the textures over here on the right, it would almost be like he's putting his back to you a little bit or is this way his body position and kind of keeps you on the page self, that's more of a design theory element. I'm not gonna get too involved with that, but anyway, let's go ahead and throw this image in there. For now. I'm gonna go ahead and hit the sea tool to get my crop tool or the letter C rather up here . I've got my with heightened resolution and something was going to mention I already kind of pre gamed. This lesson was typically, if if I don't know what size image I want to make if it's gonna be for a responsive design like this one, If I come back over here and hit command shift in the number four, click and drag, this can give me a rough idea of this image size so I could see pixel wise. It's about 545 by about 545 pixels. Give or take. Okay, So because I made this one portrait, I might want to keep that. But for the sake of his lesson, I'm gonna throw it in here as a square. Just so you can kind of see both ways, both styles. So when I make, when I'm dealing with responsive websites, a lot of times all just making my image 1000 pixels by 1000 pixels, and then I'll let the software or the code scale my image. So I'm gonna crop in 10,000. And because of the ultra high definition displays in the retina displays, I'll change our resolution from 72 which is the default. I'll make it 144 pixels per inch. And then that way it's a little bit higher resolution for those retina displays. I'm gonna crop this. I don't want to cut his hands off. I want to give about the same amount of space above his head as below the bottom of his fingertips, roughly in the ballpark. And ah, I'm also going to crop this little bit toe where he's a little bit more on the right, Third versus the left, third of the image. If I'm looking at this, if I was going by the rule of thirds, I'd like to crop it toe where it gives them a little bit of look spaces. If he was kind of facing this direction, help! That makes sense. So once I get that, I'm simply on the check up here, hit return, okay. And it's gonna crop my image. There we go on, you can see it's significantly smaller. And now what I'm gonna do is go ahead and export this. So go to file export. And I still like to use the safer Web, which is a legacy way to save this right click on the export as and really dial in my exact setting. So this is going to be a J peg. My quality. Instead of being 100% I'm gonna tell Miss back to about 70%. That puts it over here at about 264 kilobytes, which is pretty small. You know, most Internet speeds these days are pretty fast. I have to worry too much about compressing this down too far. But I do want to load quickly. And I wanted to be a very responsive website. So go and click export all. And I'm gonna call this doctor Greg. Portrait Square. I don't know. Call whatever you want make. It s CEO friendly. We're gonna throw this in Dr Gregg's website file sent finals. All right, We'll find it in there. Click Save. I'll come back over into my Shopify website, click on select images time click on upload, and I'll go grab that folder from that file. Rather, there it ISS click open. They're ago. And now we've got a photo of Dr Greg. So a couple things to consider for consistency. I will probably crop this photo to match this portrait that I put in here again. That was a happy accident. As I was going through this, I didn't expect that actually, like how it transitions from his blue shirt to the blue sky and then comes down here into these earth tones the grass, which then kind of blends nicely into the foliage, foliage, foliage, whatever. Half this photo. So, you know, again, these are things that I think about as a designer that I just can't turn it off on. And that will help separate you from, you know, other designers. If you're going this route, if you're trying to get your website up, then you know, just go for it. But just some kid considerations as you're doing this. So now that I've read thus up, don't forget to hit save and again you can see no, this on the page, you can see his body is positioned to kind of keep you from falling off the edge of the screen. It's kind of it's kind of guiding you back towards this text, Okay. Whereas if it was up here, you'd see how his back would kind of be to the text. So just a little subtle detail, and I hope that helps you think about the images and how you place them on your website as well as how to compress them and again with compression. Uh, it's just something where loosely, I like to keep it between a couple 100 kilobytes, two, maybe 300 kilobytes. The whole point is being to make it small enough image that when people are looking at it, especially on a Web, on a cell phone, with their their data, their data plans, you're not making these huge websites that take forever to load anyway. Working With Photos: Part 2: So when I added that photo of the hiker, it kind of threw me off because I wasn't. I wasn't thinking about making it in a portrait mode, but as I got to think about it, I want to show you how I would approach that Now if I want to make the other images match. Okay, So what we're gonna do is I'm gonna jump back into Dr Gregg's website and real quick tip If I If this was my I guess you could say boilerplate or template for the size of the images that I want to make on this home page. One approach that I could take is right Click, click, save image as. And then I'm gonna throw it onto, uh, into Dr Gregg's folder into the website. I'm just gonna throw it, Um, but in the final sent for right now, I'll click Save. And now I want to do is go back and grab that photo real quick. And I can by clicking once on, I can see the information, the exact dimensions. So this is actually 720 pixels wide by 1000 and 80 pixels tall and is actually 300 pixels per inch. So it's pretty high Rez for photos. So I'm gonna do is I'm gonna click on this, drink it down into photo shop, and it will open up. It escaped had my crop tool selected. And ah, Now what I'm wanting to do is actually go back over here to Dr Gregg's photo click and drag Hold it over the tab, bringing back in. And now, before I let go, may hold down the shift key was going to throw it right in the center. Okay, Now what I can do is well, first of all, I can see that it's huge in comparison. I'm gonna go to edit free transform or you see a shortcut. There is command T. And now it's so big that my control handles air actually off the screen. So I'm gonna do is make sure that this little lock icon is selected up here from our width and height that I'm just going to click on the letter w or on the H. So my with my height, I'm just gonna scrub someone to click and drag left to scrub this down. And now I can start to see those transform guides. Okay. And you can see this is actually the exact same ratio as that original photo. But what I'm gonna do is actually skillet up a touch, bring him up. Maybe kind of position him on the right 2/3 of this image here, Okay? And then I'm gonna go ahead and apply that trend, that crop or that transform. And now I can export this good file down to export export as and if I left it said 100% quality. You can see the file sizes at that 526 kilobytes. And like I said earlier, I like to keep these a little bit smaller, just so they load faster. If I go to 60% the image still looks pretty good, and it's come down considerably in size. I could maybe even bumped it up a touch. So it's a fine line between keeping the image small enough that it loads fast, but keeping the quality where it needs to be. Once I get that words at or where I like it where I'm happy with it, I'll just click the export button down here and let's change the name of that Dr Gregg Portrait. Click Save. All right, let's jump back over into the website. Let's update that image. I'm gonna click over here. Actually, we're already still there from from earlier, so I'm gonna click, upload, We'll go, Graham that photo click open. And now it replaces that so you can see that this feels a little bit better. It goes from a close up of him to pull out where it's a kind of a more generic stock photo , and then we've got this one, which is kind of somewhere between. It's not super close up, but it's not quite as far away is that, But it all feels like it belongs together. Now I can click Let's go and select that image, I guess, and will hit, Save Boom! There we go. OK, that's pretty much it guys. So hopefully that gives you some ideas on how to work with your images, how to pay attention to the format of what images you have in your page and then again, how to optimize them so they load quickly on your website. 31. Adding a Custom Domain Name: in this lesson. I want to show you how to add your own custom domain name to your store. So that way it doesn't look like this in the address bar right now. The temporary Earl for Dr Big Site is Doctor Dash Greg Dash online dash store dot my Shopify dot com. It's crazy long, and nobody's going to remember that. So what we want to do is use the domain name that he purchased on Go Daddy. Hey, dr grey dot com. When somebody goes to this site instead of it, seeing this landing paid, that's the default landing page at Go Daddy. We want this address to show this website. So there's two approaches to this. One is we can do this on the Shopify side of things because it's with Go Daddy Shopify has a setting where they can do all the heavy lifting for you. Or I could log in to the domain side of things on Go daddy and click the use my domain right now in the domain settings under their domain manager. And I'm not gonna get into details on that because I know that they're actively updating their design interface. So It'll probably look different by the time you get here anyway. But basically, I will point out there's two ways you come out this from Shopify, or you can come out this from your domain whoever you registered your domain name with. Okay, so let's do it with the easy way. First, I'm gonna come back over here to Shopify will come down to our sales channel under the online store. We'll scroll down to domains and you can see right now this is the current primary domain. So when we go there, this is how you view everything that's been put together in this Shopify store. And then I want to point out right now that, you know, obviously will do my best to explain everything to you. But there is some really great documentation if you go to learn more about domains. If I click on this will actually open up this page, we can learn more about what you are. L is how it works and get some more information along here too. So if you're not familiar with how to do this at all, I highly recommend you read this because there's a lot more to it. But for those of you who is ready to turn this on, ready to go, let's go ahead and dive in. So I'm gonna come back over to Dr Gregg's domain manager here in the dashboard, and I'm gonna go ahead and click on Connect Existing domain. And the reason why we're doing this is he already has a domain he wants to use. And it's currently at Go Daddy. So we'll click on this button and I'm going to copy and paste the domain he hasn't here. If I didn't have a domain, I could click the Buy New domain button, But again, we already have one. So now click next and Shopify does all the heavy lifting for me so it will automatically connect this domain to my store. And all I have to do is log in to go, Daddy. Once I log in, the settings will be automatically modified and I'll connect instantly. Okay, so I can connect automatically. And that's one way to go about this with the Shopify store. Now the other way to go about this is if I was on Go Daddy's website, I can come to the domain manager click use My domain might look different by the time it coming through this, and I have some options for putting. Hey, dr Greg dot com toe work. I can build a new website. I can set up an email account or in this case, I want to connect to an existing site. We've already built the website, so let's click connect. If I scroll down, you can see there's a lot of different website builders, a lot of different social sites. In this case, it's an online store. Specifically, it's Shopify. So if I click on that, I can click connect domain. So now I have to do is actually go back to shop. If I go back to my online store, go to my domains and then click add existing domain. So let's go ahead and jump back over there. I'm gonna go back to my domains, and I hope this isn't confusing, but I'm actually showing you two different ways at once again. It just depends on who your registrar is and how you want to approach this. So what I'm gonna do is go to connect existing domain. Well, pace that domain and again I'll click next Then I click connect automatically, which will open up a another window for me to connect with Go, Daddy Now, because I'm showing you two different ways rather than clicking. Confirm I'm gonna go ahead and cancel, which will still trigger Shopify to make those changes. But I've already initiated those changes from Go Daddy side of things. So usually you would pick one way or the other again by me showing you two different ways at once. It's maybe a little confusing, but hopefully this helps you understand that you can come out this from whichever way makes the most sense to you in whatever way is easiest. I recommend coming out this straight from Shopify. But again depending, Registrar, it might be just Azizi to go into their dashboard, so hopefully that makes sense. And now, once I've made that connection, Shopify should automatically set this as the primary domain. If it doesn't, though you can click, appear and change the primary domain. It also shows me the provider is right now again. Let's go, Daddy, we have an SSL pending. So that is my secure sockets layer. It's my security for the site. So people up here we'll see the lock sign. The connection is secure when they're visiting Dr Gregg's website and then you can see the shop. If I manage domain. Is this one that we set up when we first have the website? It's still connected. It's still well, technically work if you go to that at any time. But right now the primary is going to be this new. Hey, dr Greg dot com domain. And then it shows me the third party domains. This is just the one that we have again coming through. Go, Daddy. But that should be everything you need to know to get up and running with your shop If our website and a custom domain again, I can't emphasize this enough. This stuff changes pretty frequently, but the process itself is almost always the same. You're basically telling your registrar where your domain is. Here's where to look for the website. Okay, so Shopify makes it really simple. And if you have questions, go ahead and comment below or again. Definitely check out the documentation that Shopify provides as well 32. How to Add an Apparel Dropshipping Service: all right. And this. Listen, what we're gonna do is connect print ful to our Shopify store. And what that's gonna allow us to do is import T shirts and different swag items into our store for sale. That then print full, will fulfill any time there's an order. So we'll get into that more detail. But for now, let's just go ahead and get the application installed and up and running. So what we're gonna do is go to our dashboard and Shopify and then over here on the sidebar towards the bottom, we see the link for APS and you should be familiar with this and earlier lessons. We've already gone through some of this, but what we're going to do is search the app store for the app called print fel, so it will do it right up here. You can search for print full if you don't see it. But in my case, I've already got it right. If I scroll down, it's a little bit. It's already recommended for me. So we'll click on the print full button and we're going to go ahead and add the app. That's it. We've got the app right here, ready to install. So let's go and take a look at that. And as you can see, it's basically letting us know that print full will be able to view our account. Data Manager products are orders, are online store and view other data. But we wanted to be able to do that toe work with our stores. Let's go and click on the install app button down below, and now we just need to connect our store print full. So since I don't have a print full account yet, what I'm gonna do is go ahead and use this email and set up a password. I need to agree to the print full terms and service. I would also like to update or receive emails from print fold to be updated with the latest updates, and I'll go ahead and click create to create my print full accounts. I'm gonna go ahead and accept all cookies, all right. That's pretty much it as far as getting the application installed for Shopify, but we do have some settings we want to configure and a couple things I want to point out real quick. First, is this message down here All they're saying is that, uh, you might want to go to your store settings to manage how the orders of processed if automatic fulfillment is turned on, all of your products in the order are sink. The order will be fulfilled automatically. Okay. If the products aren't sink, the order will be saved is a draft. So just be aware of how print full will now interact with your shop. If I store. And so what we want to do, There's a couple things we can add. A product here. We can look at our new orders, but what I want to show you right now is this button up here in the top, right? This is open, full site. And the reason why is this is kind of helpful to go to the print full dashboard. So you see that I'm actually print full dot com in my print full account that they set up for me when I signed in. And it gets me right here to this. Let's get you started. Next steps list, which is super helpful. So we signed up for print ful. We've already got that done. We do a quick survey if we want to tell more about us, but I'm gonna skip that for now. Next, I need to jump into my email account and confirm that email. We already have our store connected and sink it up. And then after that, the next step is going to be adding our products. So in the next video, what we're gonna do is go ahead and dive into adding our products. I'm gonna show you how I'm going to be actually adding T shirts and other swag to my store . 33. Adding Products with Printful: in this lesson, I'm gonna show you guys how you can create your own apparel in your own mock ups using the print flap. So, in the last lesson, I showed you how to install the app. And now we're gonna do is look at how we can design all these different products and full disclosure here. This is one my favorite things to do. So I know I'm gonna talk to fast and maybe be a little bit all over the place. But I'm just really passionate and really excited about this. So if I go too fast, don't forget you can pause. You can rewind the video. And I'm also happy to help you guys if he gets stuck. I also set up to make just one example and you can see I ended up making a ton of products because it's super easy to do. It's really fun, and it's really addicting. So I've got three different collections right now. I've got a collection of well designed for money products. I've got a collection of less is more graphics. And then I made some with just my signature. So it's the Derek Mitchell signature, Siri's and I've got them right now sorted by different collections here, and you can click on any one of these collections and see any products that are related to that collection. So in this video, I'm gonna show you how to add a new product to print full, and it's a ton of fun. All right, so let's go and dive in. So first and foremost, let's dive into Shopify when you're in there, go and click on this APS link on the side. And depending on how many APS you have installed right now, you might see a list of APS. Or if you've been following along with this course and you only have one app, you'll just see this right here. So when I click on print full and once you get in here, you'll see all of your next steps and you can see have confirmed my email. I've connected to the store. I've even added some products since the last video that you've seen myself to admit payment method and do some other things here. But honestly, adding products is so much fun, it'll definitely put some wind in your sails. It's something that will help encourage you to want to keep going, especially if you're getting into, you know, learning this new skill you might be feeling. Ah, a little bit overwhelmed. And so this is something that's a lot of fun to do just to kind of re ignite that passion and that excitement of creating your own online store. So that's why I want to dive into this right now what we're gonna do next. His click on the products tab were to come down here and click on this ad product button, and once you've added products, you can see that I've got a lot of them all right here, and all those products you have will be listed here. So clicking on the products tab, you can see that I have a lot of different options. We've got men's clothing, women's clothing, kids and youth hats, accessories and then home and living. So take a minute to click on these 12 down arrows and just get familiar with what's possible and what you could add to your store and what would fit your brand of the best for me. I have a lot of fun designing apparel, so I jumped right into the men's clothing and I jumped into T shirts here, and my approach for finding the product that I want to add is a combination of looking at, you know, physically, What is the product? Is it a T shirt or spot shared or hat in the next? I'm looking at the reviews to kind of get an idea of what is the most popular, what seems to be the highest quality because I definitely want something that's going to last well and be comfortable. And I wanted to be my favorite T shirt, So I want to make sure that the shirt I buy is comfortable and fits me right. The next thing I'm looking at is color options and availability. And then, of course, the sizes they have available and the pricing for me. Personally, I don't care too much about the pricing because I care more about the customer experience and being assured that's not gonna wear out. Or that doesn't fit funny. So I went through and I found some of the different options here, and we'll just start with this 1st 1 right here. That's got a lot of reviews. I'm gonna click right on the T shirt, and once you've selected your product in this case is a T shirt you can see on the left hand side. We've got some product descriptions and things We can upload our design. We can either upload a file if you know how to design your own. You can add text right within print with right within the print full app here. Or we even add clip art so you don't have to be a graphic designer. To do this, you can dive in and have a lot of fun doing it. Even with basically zero experience over here, we can choose what side we're dropping our artwork into. So in this case, it's currently the front, but we can also use something on the back. We have options for the left sleeve for the right sleeve. We could even do a label on the outside or on the inside, so we'll get into all those details here in a little bit, talks about some different mandatory artwork if you're gonna do your own LaBella's faras the shirt size and where was made. But for right now, this just come back to the front and let's go back here to this product tab and the next thing I want to show you. And this is really important if you want to design your own products, is this product info, pricing and templates link. I'm gonna go and click on that, and what I'm looking for right now is the file templates. So click on that and you can see there's a few different templates we can work with. We've got the inside label, the outside label front, back, sleeve and then chest. So depending on where you want to put your artwork, you can download the print template now. One thing that I want to point out, and this is a little bit beyond the scope of the Shopify site. But from from the perspective of being a graphic designer and I go in this more detail of my graphic design boot camp course, But basically the bigger the graphic is, the more you can use it for things. But if we started with the small three inch by three inch graphic, we can't scale it up or it'll get what we call pixelated. Look, it'll look really distorted and kind of fuzzy, right? So we want to start with our bigger graphics first. So I'm gonna start with this biggest front and back print template and download that now The reason why is once I have that file, I can scale this down within print full to be these other sizes if I want to. So for me, as I get going and as I upload artwork, let me just show you as an example, I'll come back here and I'll click on the drop in your design and you can see some of the designs that have already uploaded as templates. And all of these I used the big and you can see in the title 12 by 16 12 by 16 templates. And I could apply this to any file now. So instead of using every single template on every product, you might upload a couple key pieces of art and then apply them to everything that you're doing. Okay, so I hope that makes sense. As you start to do this, it'll become more clear and honestly, just play with it. Worst case scenario. Just delete the file and start over, so I encourage you to have a lot of fun playing with this and what I'm gonna do now is come back over to my finder window. I'm gonna jump over to my personal website and all my products. And what I did is I created this collections folder and I created a folder for each one of the collections I want to make. So here's some or that want to make, like a make the logo bigger. You know, Kerr, unless I shot the Sarah just basically a bunch of puns and graphic design jokes. Basically. So these air different ones that I want to create and what I did is, for example, this less is more collection I brought in my global assets. So these air, all the designs that I made for this project I've got my signature. I have the actual artwork that I created for the less is more project. And then I created a folder for this for the different, um, product. So in this case, I have a shirt and I left the folder than name of the shirt. So that way I would know exactly which shirt in which template I used. And then I brought over the template that I just downloaded. So if I were to bring this zip folder over and then just double click to unzip it. That's how I got to this stage right here. Okay, so in here, I can see we have a PNG full Ah, uh, file. And we also have the Photoshopped file. So with that in mind, all I did was I opened up this photo shop file. Go ahead and open up photo shop. And now this is the template that print full wants to use for their T shirts. So all I need to do is create whatever artwork I want within this and then exported as a portable network graphic or as a PNG we call it so right here on the side of my layers, we've got our folders and I realize that a lot of you don't want this tutorial to get to derailed by. Maybe you don't have photo shop. We don't have a creative suite. You can use any design software you want. So if you've got something else that you could actually open up this PNG on, I'll just do it this way. Instead, let me just open up this PNG file right inside a photo shop because that's what I'm happy what I happen to be using to edit my graphics. And now it's have one layer. I don't have the extra stuff in here that they've created in the photo shop file. So you could open this up in any graphic editor. You want that you can use layers and things like that. It was at a new layer. And just for the sake of showing, you just gonna fill it with the color and maybe throw some text on here. There we go. All right. Hello. This is actually No, it's dumb, but it's actually cool anyway, So let's say you're using another design software. You can export whatever kind of graphic you want. In this case, I go file. Let's go ahead and I'll click on Save. As in this case, I'm going to save it as a J peg. Actually, I know they want a PNG, so I'm gonna save it as a PNG full file here. And I'm just gonna throw this as call a red hello to PNG graphic. And for the sake of this tutorial and keeping things clean, I'm gonna make any full over here called. Hello. This is a shirt click save. All right, so now I have a graphic to use. It's his PNG file. I'm gonna jump back into Shopify. Technically were in the print. Full app here. I'm gonna click wherever I want to put that graphic. So click right on this drop design. Here, I'll click on upload. Let's go find that graphic we just made. No, not my resume. Here. There we go. Products, collections. Hello. The shirt and there is that graphic. Something else I want to point out to is I can see the resolution is 1 50 by 1 50 and I didn't change anything. It was all set up by the template we downloaded. So if you wanted to, you could create your own templates from scratch. If you know how to use photo shopper, illustrator or like I said, just download their templates and build right over the top. So now I have a graphic this template click choose. And now it puts it right under the T shirt and I can scroll down, I can add. I'm sorry. I would of course we strolled down. But I can add different layers here. If I wanted to use their built in editor, and I could rearrange these or hit the trash can here to lead this graphic if I want to. But I'm gonna go in and proceed to mock ups. We'll click on that, and now it'll show them what the front looks like. I can add additional mock up styles is good and click on that, and I can choose what it looks like, whether it's a lifestyle mock up or whatever. Click on this one, scroll down and I'm gonna leave it as a J peg for the mock up. Another just talking about what the actual product image is gonna look like on your website . So I'll leave it as a J peg, which is fine. Let's proceed to the description pricing. I'll leave all this alone. I might change the title to say hello. I'll attach a size guide. I'm gonna even add metric sizes as well. I'm gonna add a tag here, call it hello and maybe T shirt. And now we can proceed to pricing so I can come in here and I can increase all of these by certain percentage or adjust whatever the pricing is. The profits gonna be or in this case, I'll just leave it alone and let print full recommend. Ah, price On this case, the base T shirt that's gonna cost me will be almost $13. I could charge 18 on my websites will make $5 per T shirt. I'll scroll down. I can add a collection. So in this case, I'll throw it into the apparel collection and maybe even actually believe it. That would submit to store. And now it's up loading that basically, it's gonna it's gonna create mock ups of every product variation and then added to our Web store. So once this is done, I'll be able to go to my website here. And if I refresh the page, we should see it. The main store link. There it is. Hello. Short sleeve unisex T shirt. All right, so click on that and we can see the mock ups here, and they're Ugo. That is how you add a new T shirt or apparel or product or what If you want to do to website using print full 34. Refining Collections and Organizing Your Store: in the last lesson, I showed you how to create your own design and add that designed to a product and then add that product to your website. Now I don't want to do is go ahead and back, fill some information and show you some tips and tricks along the way. They will make it more enjoyable, and I know you're gonna want to just dive in and create a bunch of graphics. Honestly, that's what I did. So I can't even tell you not to do it because I literally did the exact same thing. So let me just show you a couple of things, though, along the way. That will help make this a better experience for both you and your customers along the way . So we're gonna do in this lesson is I'm going to circle back to collections, and I know we already talked about that in previous lessons. But now that we have some real samples, I want to show you how I set up my own collections as well as some different work flow techniques to make it faster and more automated for you along the way. All right, let's dive into our store. So I'm currently at the home page or the dashboard of my Shopify store, and I'm gonna come down to products and then come down to collections so you can see this is how I started to set up my own Web store. Currently based on the products that I've already added to my store. I have T shirts, apparel, home and living, and then I've got a collection called Will Design for Money. So that's basically the will design for money graphic applied to everything from coffee mugs to T shirts to sweatshirts and even hats. Then I've got the Derek Mitchell signature collection, which is just basically my signature again across multiple products like mugs and hats and hoodies. Whatever we've got Beanies hats, we've got the less is more collection accessories. The home page, which this is a way to have a certain set of products show up on a certain page. So in this case, I've got a section on the home page design that will pull in any products with the home page collection tag applied to it. So that's a way to feature stuff, especially if you have sales coming up for holidays. or new products you want to show right on the home page or on a different page of your website. Just create a collection and then add those products. Then you can add that collection to your site. All right, so let's go ahead and create a new collection. And what I want to do is create a new collection based on that new hello graphic we made so right away when you create a collection. And we've already been over this, so I don't want to belabor the point. But I'm just gonna call this hello, and then you have the option to make it a manual collection type or automatic or automated type, and I wanted to be automated. So that way, any time the product title contains the word Hello, I want all the conditions. I want any of these conditions. Then I wanted to automatically add that product into this collection, so it's really straightforward. The other thing I'm gonna add is another condition, and I'll say any time the product tag is equal to in this case, I don't have a set up yet, so we're gonna create the tag. Hello? Actually, no. I think I did. I think I put that in there anyway. So let's just say forget to put the word hello in the title. If I tagged it with hello, it'll still grab that product and vice versa. Let's say you know, I forget to do the other way. It will throw it in there so I can add as many conditions as I want. I'll go ahead and hit, save, and then I want to add that collection to my navigation. So I'm gonna come down here to my online store. We'll go to navigation. I've got my main menu. And again, we've already gone over this. But now you can see is a practical application. How you could use this. I'm gonna make a new link called Hello. And right now I'm looking for a collection. Let's go and find that hello collection we just made. I'll click on that. Now add it to my menu. And now what I want to do is drag and drop that under my store. So we'll click on that link we just made and will nest it down here. And I put under my collections link, maybe. All right, there we go. So now when I save this menu, when I jump back over to my main website and I'll refresh the page when I click on store, click on collections and now that hello collection is up here as well. So when I click on this, any products that have the word hello or the tag hello will be added automatically. So that's the exact same process I went through to create all these other collections, like the well design for money or the less is more collections. So if I come back into my products, come down the collections, let's scroll down to the less is more collection. You can see the rules that I gave it. I give it the title Less is more and then right here. If the product tag is equal to less is more or the product title contains, less is more and actually, I don't want it to be all of these. I want to say any of these let's say that I forgot to put less is more in the title. If that were the case, that product wouldn't be added because it's looking for both of these to be true. The product must match that must be equal to lessons. Maurin the tag and it must contain less is more in the title, so I want to be any condition. So that way, if I forgot the title or if I forgot the tag, it'll work. Click, save, and then I can continue to refine this a little bit further. So right now it's going to sort by best selling. And that way, when somebody clicks on that less is more category, whichever one sells the most is going to be shown first, so you can change that if you want to and make it just straight up by title or the pricing or newest oldest or however you want to do that. But that's how you sort your category. I'm sorry, your collections and how you can continue to refine your store and do it in a way that's automated. So that way, as I add more artwork and I start fleshing things out through the print flap, all those products will automatically come into those collections and immediately be available on my store. Hopefully, that makes sense. Let me just kind of click one more time on this hello category There we go. So what I'm gonna do now is I want to go ahead and flush out some more products. And I'm also going to be adding some more videos to show you guys about the design process . I know this is a Shopify course. I know many of you don't have the photo shop or illustrator APS, so don't worry so much about that as much as just having fun, creating products and just experimenting. So at this point in time, I haven't paid a cent toe have this. I have not ordered any product, have not done anything. It didn't cost me any money to explore with this. We'll get into that later to show you how to sync up your store so people can actually order these products. But I guess when trying to say is that just have fun. Just experiment. Just go to town. You can always delete a product if you don't like it. But look how cool this is. I go to my Web site and scroll through, and I'm really excited to start flushing out some more of these ideas that I have. And I can't wait to show you the process along the way. 35. Adding a Payment Method: in this lesson, I'm gonna show you how to add a payment method to print full so that when a customer comes to your website and purchase is a product, you'll be able to capture those funds from a customer and then pay print ful to deliver that product that's been ordered. It's really straightforward. Let's go ahead and jump into your APs under Shopify, Click on the apse, and then right now I can scroll down and click on the add payment option here that you'll see in your checklist. And then, from there I can choose add billing method where I can create a new billing method up here with his big red button. Either way does the same thing we can, either at a card. So whether that your debit card or a credit card and this is what you were going to be using to pay print fel. So what happens is you're gonna capture those funds and you're gonna hold them somewhere from your customer. Let's say they buy your T shirt for $15 let's say it costs $10 to produce, so you would be paying print ful from whatever card you're about to set up or in this case , I'm gonna use PayPal. And then that PayPal account will pay whatever the cost of the shirt is. So if the cost is $10 I captured 15 for my customer. I paid print full $10 then I got to keep the $5 profit. So what I'm gonna do right now is logging with PayPal with the scent of a papal billing method. Now you need to do is either log in with your PayPal account that you want to use or go ahead and create an account. Once you've logged in, you have the option to select what payment method you want, and that depends on how you've set up your PayPal account, which is beyond the scope of this video. But basically, once you've logged in, you have the option to either click on this button to change what you're using based on what's in your wallet or click agree and continue if you like it the way it is, and you want to just move on to the next step. All right, now that my PayPal account iss sync up as a billing method, I'm gonna go ahead and add my billing address as well. So the company and the phone are optional. But I'm going to put in the address here and then I'll click. Add there we go now have successfully added a billing method. 36. Refining the Home Page: Alright, guys, it's just about time to launch our websites. I'm getting super pumped. I don't know about you, but I'm really excited to finally feature all of this hard work that I've done and to be able to sell these products. And if you've been following along hopefully or in a similar position, you have some products are ready to sell. And when we go to our store page, you'll see all of the products we have here. Okay, But if I go to my home page, if you remember, I've got some filler images and I've got a bunch of placeholder images that are default from Shopify. So we need to dial in just a couple more things before I can really turn this on and show it to the world. So that's what we're gonna do in this video. I'm gonna show you how I set up my my home page and how I refined some things and just kind of my thought process about the whole thing. So when it's all said and done, I'm gonna show you how I made this new graphic that's going to redirect my if you click on it from the home page. It's gonna redirect you to the less is more category. So when they click on the button here will go to store It'll actually just take people right. Teoh, This less is more category where they can shop for more of these products. So the way that I did this, I built over the top of that homepage graphic that I made towards the beginning of this course and just to kind of show you my file structure. What I did is I've got the main design for my website and all I put in here right now is this one slide OK, so I copied this, commands you to copy, went into my products, went into collections that I have is less is more collection that I've been working on and have all the global assets that I used to make this so this less is more our work. This is what I used to put into all those products when I uploaded to print full and then I made a new category header or this could be actually maybe we'll call it home page header. I don't know. I was gonna put it on the category But let's let's call it home page, because it makes more sense. So I just pasted that Photoshopped violin here and then I renamed it. And the reason why I did that is cause enough to worry about. Sitting in my size is everything is just exactly how it's supposed to be. And that's how I got to this stage. Somebody open up this file. And before I had this text in this guy in here, this is what I had. So this is the exact same home page graphic that I had before. And then I dropped in an image here from the product and all I did was isolated him. So I have a mask here that's hiding the white background. And then I added some text and then what we're gonna do now that where I got this text is I jumped into illustrator and ah, this original artwork. If I come back here to the less is more these global assets I opened up my less is more file and I just copied this graphic that I made real quick. It's a vector. So commands you to copy which involved in a photo shop Command V to paste as a smart object and by default, that came in as black. And then all I did was I added, If I come down here, this effects will click on that color overlay. And then I just changed color white. Okay, so hopefully that makes sense. I'm kind of flying through this because it's it's beyond the scope of this video. I just wanted you to get up and running with my thought process and just see how I quickly through this graphic together. OK, so I'm gonna save it real quick. I'll save it for WEB. They're exported. So we go to file export export as save it as a J peg and I'll leave the rest alone. I'll hit export. Okay, so I'm flying through stuff because this isn't the main point of what I want to show you this video at all, but I I know you're gonna ask me questions later. So that's what I did to get that graphic out of the box and into my store. So what we're gonna do now is jump over into my online store and Shopify and we're gonna jump over here to customize and just a quick reminder. I'm in the venture Theme. You might have a different theme, so follow along as best you can. But depending on your theme, you might not even have this header option. So just be aware of that. Year's might look a little different. So what I'm gonna do now is jump into my slide show section here and we saw these two slides. Well, I'm gonna go ahead and remove this, learn how to code slide because it doesn't fit with my website And what I'm trying to do here so removed that and I'm gonna add a slide. I'm a selecting image. And I've already uploaded that image that I just made in photo shop. So click on that hit Select. And now it's in there Real simple. So I'm gonna do is scroll down a little bit. I'm gonna change my heading to say something that's a little more, um makes more sense. We'll call it. Ah, less is more. And then I'm gonna make a button and I'm gonna label it. Let's say shop the new collection. Okay. And now it's link it up. So click in this box here will click appearing collections Scroll down and find the less is more collection, and that's pretty much it. So that's all hooked up. I'm gonna hit my troll down arrow to close that. I'm gonna come back up here to this first slide, click the troll down and we'll click on Remove content. So now we just have the one slide. OK, so now that we've got that all set up, I'm gonna hit save. And now, if I go to my Web store appear and I refresh or just click on the home page, I guess we should see that slide first. There it is, pops right up. And then I can click on this to shop the new collection. And when I click on that, it pulls up all of those products that are part of that collection. So that's how I'm gonna set up my home page. And by the time you watch this video, there might be a dozen more slides because I'm getting really excited to set up more stuff . But that's basically my workflow for how to get the home page. Uh, the home image, the slider, the feature slider, how to make it linked to a category and if you're looking for more examples, if you were to go to, like Hurley or Nike dot com or, well, let's just start with those to you so you can see they kind of do something similar. So depending on what their product is for the month, they have a shop button and then the featured images of the product. Same thing with Hurley. They've got a slider with a bunch of different images, but basically you can see they've got the shop all you know, whether whatever the category is, you know, shop now what else? So obviously nothing new, right? Something you've seen 100 times 1000 times. But that's how I do this. That's how I approach this. So the next thing we want to do is set up these collections here, so this makes sense. So I'm gonna jump back into my Shopify dashboard. Let's come back here and we're still under that same customized option of themes, and we've done the slide show. Now I'm coming down to my collection list. So I'm gonna click on this, and I can see all these different collections as just really basic point and click. So we're going to click the twirl down arrow and then click Select collection. So what I'm gonna do is I'm just gonna click on each one until I like what the images and the way that you probably should work is decide what your main collections or categories air gonna be. But for me, I'm working kind of fast and I just want to look really good for right now because I don't know what's gonna be the favorite once I have some more, um, data on what products get purchased. MAWR. I'll probably end up featuring them on the home page. They're easier to locate, but for now, I'm just kind of finding, you know, whatever image pops up by default, we can change that inflections. But for now, I'm just trying to get this going so I can turn it on. So another have that mug here I'll click. Select will come back to our section over here. Go to the next collection That's at another collection. Let's go, Teoh. Let's just click through here again. I liked accessories that actually looks good, so we'll click. Select Close that come back to the next one select collection at sea so we've already got. The less is more featured up here. But I like that there's a new tab so I might leave this and again. By the time you can see this lesson, it might be totally different, cause I'll have some more time spent refining things and kind of playing with things on my own here, So looks good. That at least makes it so. Everything is nice in line here, depending on the category I choose. Let me go back here just as an example, Fire to choose a different category than New Ah, a collection. Nope. Didn't mean to do that. All I was trying to say is depending how long your category name is. It might force us into two lines, and it might not line up very well. So that's something else to pay attention to. Just making sure everything looks good and lines up well. And then we have this homepage collection here. So let's go ahead and go back and see where that's coming from. Might come back up here the very top left click on this back arrow, and so we've got the home page. What? This is this is just a featured collection. So if I goto ads section I can add all kinds of things from blawg posts to a collection list in this case, a featured collection, all kinds of stuff. Right, So that's all this. That's all this thing is, And whatever products are in this home page category are gonna show up here. So right now, I've only assigned one to that collection. So if I were to come back here, let's click on this and see what we can do here. I'm going to change this and make it. Let's see if we were to add beanies. So there's a couple products year or maybe hats. That could be a good one. That's kind of cool. Ah, I don't like that. It goes to an extra roast, lets you weaken, do about that. Look select Rose to I want to be just one row. Okay, so it should take it often. It falls in line nicely. Perfect. All right, so that looks good to me. I'm gonna come back here, and then we got one more set here. We need to drop in an image with text, but honestly, at this point in time, I can't think of anything. I'm going to think something different, but I really want to get this launched. So for now, I'm just gonna go ahead and remove this so I should be able to click on this click remove section. And now my store looks pretty well fleshed out. It's just about done. So I'm gonna go and hit Save and let's go ahead and jump over to the main site here and refresh this page. See how it looks without all the side bar stuff. All right, that looks really good. I'm pretty happy with it. There's a lot that I might change over time here, but for the most part, it looks like a real store that you can actually buy something because it is a real store and you actually can pi stuff from this website. So I'm super pumped about how it turned out. And I hope you guys are getting excited to see what's possible with your store. How to get this set up in exactly how you want it to look. All right, so in the next videos, we're gonna get your store totally finished out here and getting it ready. Tow launch 37. How to do a Test Order: you guys. I'm so pumped to turn on the store. I felt like this background into music was appropriate. It, uh, I told him such a dork. Here's a deal. All right, So what we're going to do now is learn how to do a test order on your store. The whole point in this is to be able to go through the actual check up process, make sure that everything set up right and that your customers experience is good, so that way they can actually buy your products. So there's two ways to do this. The first is obviously just go through and buy something on your store. Use your credit card, debit card, whatever. Make make a purchase, See if you like how it works out. But that could get expensive if you're trying to make a bunch of changes and refined things , so there's another way to do it. The second way to do that is to actually disable your will, put it in test mode what we're gonna do. So we're gonna we're gonna jump over into our store settings down here, and they were gonna go to payment providers. And currently I have the Shopify payments set up and you might have something different set up depending on what country you're you're working on this with. But what I'm gonna do is go and click on Manage and most payment processors allow you to put your store in test mode from settings and then payments in here where we're at. So I'm gonna do now is scroll down to the bottom and I have this test mode check box, so I'm gonna click on enable test mode. Now, just be aware, when test motors on all Shopify payments, transactions are simulated. So if you forget to turn this off, your customers can't buy anything on your store. All right, so I'm gonna go and click Save now that had made that change. Now I need to do is go to my online store and we're gonna go ahead and add a product and do a test purchase, So I'm gonna jump over here. Let's just grab this Less is more snapback hat will view it. I will add it to cart of you card and check out. All right. That looks good. That's going to go to the check out process here and again as I'm going through this, I'm just kind of making sure the design looks good and everything is in place. All right, from hero. Put in email address, simulate an address, and we'll go ahead and continue to shipping. Now continues to payment. Now for the payment section. I'm gonna go ahead and link in the description below, but I have this page. You can see this successful transactions or how you can simulate different cards. So this is a link on Shopify. So depending on the card type, you can use these test credit card numbers. So these are all basically, if you want to test with Visa, MasterCard, American Express, whatever. Just to use these numbers in here. So if I just want to jump in with the visa, I would just do 4 to 4 to over and over. Okay, so I'm gonna copy that right here. It says you can do any name or just at least two words. Doesn't matter for the name. Any future date, use three digits for the cvv and then the card number. You want to use one of these, Okay, but you can also use failed transactions. So if you want to see what happens if it declines or pretending Correct number or any of that kind of stuff. If you're testing, used these numbers, okay to simulate failed transactions. And again, this link should be below. I'm gonna Jim back over here and paste that card number in Name on card will put Derek Mitchell expiration date. I don't even know. Today is 10 20 to 22 year. I don't even know. Making step up now. Just wants month and year. My bad. All right, there we go. Security code was 2123 All right. And we get the order confirmation page. Everything looks great. So now we could go ahead and jump back into our Shopify store settings will go back to the settings here. Actually, we're on the right page right there. Just makes you dont get lost will go to the payment options. Here we will go to the manage Shopify scroll to the bottom and disable that test mode Click save. So now we are confident everything is working on her store and we're good to launch this thing 38.
