1. Introduction : Hi, I'm Justin Tresca's. Welcome to my class on setting up your own home bar. This is a classic, covers the clear liquors, the basic five clear liquors, Brown liquors, LA cores, mixers, tools, and talks about some classic cocktails. And I'm gonna make one at the end. We're also going to make a sour mix and a simple syrup. And the mixer sections class. So sit back and enjoy it. 2. Clear Liquors : First I want to talk about clear liquors and clear liquors, our spirits. And these are going to be the first five man bottles of your home bar. These are going to be recommended by pretty much every bartending book that you read. The first one is Rm. So ROM is a molasses based product that is used in such drinks as directories, peanut, mulattoes, and mosquitoes, and very delicious vodka. Vodka is made from cereal grains. Wheat, corn, rye, or potatoes, was made from grapes originally and Russia, and now comes in a lot of different flavors. Strawberries, Citroen, watermelon, orange, or just original flavor. There's definitely different levels of vodka. One of my favorites is Grey Goose vodka, that's a product of France. The next is Jin. Jin is a distilled with grain alcohol and then Juniper barriers for its flavor. Gin and tonics, gin martini, these are two famous drinks with that. The precursor to gin was Hall for Naver. That's a Dutch drink, are known as Dutch gin and that was the precursor to Jen before it was later developed in Britain. And we also have to Qila, tequila is made from the plant. And some famous drinks with that include the margherita or the Tequila Sunrise. This is called triple sec. This is an orange Le Core and does not a liquor bottle. The core, which we'll get into later. But it is considered one of the five main clear liquors that you're going to want for setting up any home bar. So one famous drink that combines all of these is called the Long Island ice tea, where you put a half an ounce each of rum, vodka, gin, tequila, and triple sec to onces a sour mix, shake and then do a splash of cola and in garnish it with lemon wedge. So put it all into a shaker glass, shaken up with ice, or back into your glass, and then you float with a cola on the top. A variation of the Long Island ice tea is the Grateful Dead. When instead of the cola, you do a flow with this Chambord, which is another of the Core, I would actually recommend doing a quarter ounce of each of those cores because this becomes very strong and powerful. And you don't want to end up like this and vodka headed alien. Enjoy. 3. Brown Liquors: Next I want to talk about Brown liquor. And a lot of these are just basically lists keys, but they're called different things. Whiskers are made from corn, barley, rye, or wheat. And this was an Irish whiskey and Irish lists keys are known for their smooth flavor and they are normally made with barley and malt. So here's a few types of Iris whiskey. This is interesting. One of Amara, which is actually included with P, which makes it almost tastes like a scotch. Canadian whiskey is also made of the wheat, corn, barley, and rye, but it comes from Canada. Crown Royal is a famous one. And here's one that I got from Canada wasn't a fused with maple syrup, so that's a Canadian maple whiskey. Next, I wanted to talk about Bourbon. Bourbon has to be made in the United States, was actually declared by Congress to be the American Native spirit. The bourbon is mostly made of corn, and there are several different kinds, is also normally made in Kentucky to be considered a true bourbon. So here's a few of my favorites, knob Creek and Maker's Mark varieties. Although it meets the technical requirements to be called a verb. And the folks from tennessee like to call their whiskey, tennessee whiskey. And this Jack Daniel's is the famous Tennessee's sour mash whiskey in the United States. So if you want to make a high ball and you can take any of those, and you'd say whiskey and bourbon, a ginger ale, and Iraq's class. And you have yourself a high ball. Scotch whiskey originated in Scotland. It's very similar to Irish whiskey, is fired over p, which makes it have a distinct flavor that is known as scotch. It comes with single malt or an a blend. A single malt means that all of the casks used to make the scotch were from the same distillery or a blend. They may have been from different distilleries. Single malts are usually aged, quote, a bit longer and more expensive, whereas blends are usually more affordable. This IS Johnnie Walker Red, which is a famous scotch that most Americans have in their bars. So a famous drink for scotch is the rusty nail. This is Christmas favorite of mine and my friends. So as just scotch and jam buoy and you mix that in Iraq's class. It's delicious. The next section I want to talk about cognac. These are not technically cognac because they're not from the conic section of France, so they are brandy. So these are aged 4710 years. Those are all from Moldova. This is from another region in Moldova called Transnistria. And these are all similar Lee made to Cognac. But since they're not from that part of France, they're not Cognac called dv1. And here is another one called, I have no idea what it's called, but as from Odessa and the Ukraine. So here are some more easily pronounceable, Saint-Remy, Napoleon grandes, and another brandy from Germany called merit problem. So here's a famous drink, all the side car. So either take Cognac or Brandy an ounce and a half, and probably brandy, orange, the core like triple sec, three quarter ounce lemon juice and a garnish it with an honest twist, sugar RAM, shake and strain and to a martini glass. So that's a famous brandy drink that you can use any of those to make. Now, here's a few more familiar items. Captain Morgan, spice room and Meyers dark room. So those are both Jamaican rooms and very good for Roman Cokes for the captain Morgan's. And my favorite with the dark ROM is a dark and stormy. To take Meyer's dark rum announced in a quarter that Gingerbread and serve that over ice. 4. Liqueurs : In this section, I want to talk about the Corps. The cores are different from liquor because they typically are sweeter and have a lower alcohol percentage. A liquor is typically 40% were Le Core is about 20% alcohol level. Think of liquor as the base of your training and then the core is what you add it, add flavor didn't come in a lot of different flavors, such as bearing chocolate, coffee through flower, herbal, funny or not. So first I want to talk about orange, the cores. This is triple sec. This should be a standard and every home bar, I mentioned this and the clear liquors section of a class that's closed. The recipes for top-shelf version of this arms of poor as control. That is a little bit more fancy. A drink you can make with these as cosmopolitan, 1.51 ounces of Citroen vodka. One ounce of either triple set or control, one ounce of lime juice, a splash to an ounce of cranberry juice. And you want to put that on your shaker with ice. And you want to shake and strain into a martini glass with a sugar rim and align wedge regards. So here are some other wars. The course grandma NEA, which is a blend of orange and cognac AND Luke hairstyle as for tropical drinks, but I think it just stands, everything blew up. So I'll use this one to that. This is a peach CHNOPS. Chnops comes and lots of flavors, Blackberry, cherry, peppermint, and grape. There are many, many, many flavors of CHNOPS. Lemon cello as one of my favorite ones, sorry, I drank most of this one is delicious. I like to mix that with shots quite often. This is Cu2O, This is a ROM and coffee flavor, Le Core. This one is well-known, or the White Russian. So when White Russia as polonium, vodka and melt, if I could only choose to LA corps, my bar will be trivial. The other would be to Sirona disarray Bono is an almond flavored the core where you can make drinks like Emeril sour. And you can also make one of my favorites that toasted amen, which was the clue, which I showed you, a morale and milk. Another great liquor is Bailey's irish cream. This is famous Lee used in the drink, the mud slide. Another great, the core is friend Jericho, this as a hazelnut. And this can be used to make the naughty Irishman, along with a Bailey's irish cream, excuse irish cream friend, gelato and ice. And that's called a nobody. And Godiva chocolate core is another great example of something you can make sure the milk babies are also great with coffees, and there'd also be great with some sweet vodka martini. This is von der men, this is a mint and chocolate. The core would also be great and milk or coffee drinks. This is galley on all. This is a very distinctive bottle and it looks great on the top shelf with its bright yellow color. This is an NSSet flavor and you can make the Harvey Wall being, or which is vodka and orange juice like a screwdriver. But then galley Ohno is added, which makes it a Harvey well-being. Black and Romana, Sam woke up. The traditional way to drink Sam VUCA is an a sniffed or glass with three coffee beans floating in it. This is called con la Moscow, which means with the fly and as a traditional dessert drink. This is Campari, This is a bidder, urban fruit flavored, the core famous drink for this as The Negro ni, which is made of one ounce each of Ginn from partying and Sweet vermouth with an orange peel garnish. This is dram buoy. I mentioned this in the brown liquor section to make a rusty nail with scotch. But this is a blend of scotch, plenty and herbs. And one of my all-time favorites, bear and the agar, which is a honey Le Core. I also want to mention meat in this section. Meat is technically a funny wine, which is fermented instead of distilled. Put it acts and tastes more like the core than it does a wine. I also wanna mention vermouth in this section. This is dry and Sweet vermouth. V's are also technically fortified wines, not the cores, but they are used in mixing of drinks and flavor and have drinks. A dry vermouth is commonly used, and the gin martini and a Sweet vermouth is typically used in Manhattan. So a classic gin martini is gin about an ounce and a half, a quarter to a half ounce of remote. Sometimes Justice, Lash and olives and adding olive juice of dash of that. And the more olive juice that you add, the dirtier the martini is. So a famous drink with Sweet vermouth is going to be the man and an ounce and a half of whiskey, a half ounce of Sweet vermouth. You're going to add a dash of bidders. You're gonna shake and strain into a martini glass with a chairing garnish. 5. Beer and Wine: So this section is about beer and wine. Just a little bit of an overview with all this stuff. You want to get what you like and what your friends like. This is a wine that I made. I make my own wine, so stay tuned for my wine making class come in shortly. My beer collection is from my friends at the elaborative Brewing Company and Manchester. So I always like to photograph of beers that I buy from them and then send them a picture. He usually by a campfire, like you see here. So I had the spirit, the turbo love juice, the double love juice. This is their October Fest beer that was a Facebook cover photo. And champion the sun means are all IPAs, but there are lots of different beers. Ails, loggers, spouts. And this is one I like to have when my brother-in-law called Kozol from the Czech Republic. And here are some hops that I grow since I also liked to brew my own beer and watch my beer making class if you'd like to learn how. So a few other things that fit into this category. These are hard, self-service. These are very popular right now. They're low in calories and low and carbs. So these are very trendy at the moment. And hard cider. So here's another class of mine making hard cider. He's coming a lot of grape varieties to at the stores. But if you'd like to learn how to make your own, I am happy to teach you. Here we are at the Vineyard dealing a little bit of winemaking up in Vermont. This is a friend's Vineyard of a Winemaking club, a man called The Great nuts, and is the wine Hall from this year from his vineyard, Penny Hill vineyard in Vermont. And these are his front and back and Petite Pearl grapes. And here is my wife and I picking grapes. And she is also a skill share teacher, if you'd like to check her out. So here I am mashing up some grapes and making some wine at home. So stay tuned for my winemaking class, and I want to show you a few basic varieties. So this is Champagne. Champagne must be from the Champagne region of France to be called champagne. Otherwise is called sparkling wine, which is what I usually buy it because it's much more affordable than champagne. So this is a good one, Martini and Rossi or this is another one we like a lot which has low markup per second from Italy. So here are some of the standard winds. So Chardonnay is a nice, dry white wine. Also Pino Grigio is another well-known white wine and a sweeter one is reasoning. This is a row Xa, which is a pink coloured wine. And this is a white Zinfandel, which is also a sweeter pink wine. Cabernet Sauvignon, is one of the standards for red wine. It's a nice, robust wine, a little more robust, but also a standard is a Merleau. Two are great to have on hand. Some other types of red wine includes Shiraz. This is from usually Australia and pinata Lars and nice robust red wine and also all Mao BEC. But just have a nice variety of wines that you like or your friends would like a few bottles of white, a few balls of red. And you can get a nice variety on your wine rack and you'll be well stocked up for your home bar. 6. Bartending Tools : This segment is about some of the tools that you can use for bartending. So I keen mind and an ice bucket and my variety of tools in one location. So this is a shaker and a strainer. This is for putting Eisen coordinate in your ingredients and then fluorine them out without the ice, so the ice stays in a container. This is the strainer. You can also use, I prefer this time than the kinda as attached to the shaker. That does a better job but keep it in the ice and it's more control where you pour it. This is a jigger. These have different sizes and either side, so one of them's either two outs and the other sides one ounce or announced in half, an ounce and a quarter. Each one is a little different. This is a waiters corkscrew. This is for waiters apron. And yours, a corkscrew for opening your boss align. Here's some various beer openers that I go on, I'm Cas9 are traveling. And here's one that's mounted to be so would be open it on one side and then it drops into this, now owns from Guinness and Ireland. And this is called a mamba. This is a beer opener used by bartenders. This helmet as ice bucket, $5 at the flea market. Thank you very much. And this is a wine chiller that you put the freezer pair of tongs. And this is an ice crusher. This is a spoon used for layering drinks. And these are poorer spouts. This is called a modeller. This is for muddling mosquitos. And it's always nice to collect some coasters from where do you go? And bartending books. This is a collection of bartending books to give you some ideas for cocktails. And there's Mr. Boston's one of the original. I'll select to keep a book of games on hand and always a deck of cards pine the bar. 7. Mixers and Garnishes : So now I want to show you some mixers and garnishes. So these get added to your cocktails to make them nice and tasty. So this is simple syrup that's used in a drink like a Tom Collins. I'm going to show you how to make a simple syrup later in this segment. And bitters, bidders are a famous blend of herbs. Those are used in the train collect a old-fashion. Now, here's lime juice that can be used in a line Gim let, or grander dean, which can be used in a drink legged Tequila Sunrise. But I like to use the cherry juice leftover from the cherries, which I'll show you later. So here's a field, margarita, directory opinion Claudia Tom Collins. So you can do Rome for directories, to kill it for margarita has RAM for a peanut collage etas. And Jennifer Tom Collins. To Tom Collins, you can actually make with a simple syrup. I'm going to show you lime juice and club soda so you can make that at home. Here's a margarita mix. So this says just adds a kilo, but I would add some triple sec to this, to, this is also recipe you can look up. Here is Bloody Mary mix, so you add vodka to this. Here's Olive, so you can use the olive as eagerness for a gin martini. And then you also use the juice in here, which makes a dirty martini. And here's machine or cherries. So the juice in here is gravity and it can be used as a grant Indian garnish. So float on top of an orange juice into Qila for Tequila Sunrise. And the chair is used in a lot of stuff. I like to keep a canned beverages for ginger ale, tonic water for gin and tonics, sparkling seltzer. And you can also definitely get club soda in this and other sodas. And I keep some garnish picks for putting olives or cherries on a little umbrellas. Toothpicks are probably the most environmentally friendly way to go. Instead of using these plastic picks and definitely more affordable. So I'm going to show you how to make a simple syrup. So this is a one-to-one ratio of water and sugar. So I'm gonna put it on my pot. Welcome back to my kitchen. So those who had been there before, I'm going to mix up two cups of water and two cups of sugar. I'm going to pour it in slowly and stirred as I go. So it doesn't stick to the bottom because we want the sugar to be completely dissolved in the water. And stir it up and bring this up to a light boil. Once it's a nice light boil, it should be starting to get clear. Wanna keep stirring it and I'm going to take the temperature. And bring it down to a simmer. And I'm going to leave it up there for another five minutes. The longer you boil it at, the thicker the syrup gets. This is simple syrup, which you buy at a grocery store or Package Store. Package tours, Connecticut for liquor store, for those of you that don't know what that is. And I'm going to make not just a simple syrup. What I'm gonna take the simple syrup and now make it into a sour mix. Because sour mix goes into whiskey sours, am rattle sours, and Long Island ice t's. So I'm gonna take my lemons and I want to show you first of all how to cut a garnish here. So you can do these in wheels, but I usually like to do lemon wedges. So I'm just going to show you how I call off the sides. So I leave the lemon and tax. You can pre cut a bunch, but if you're doing it at home, maybe it's just good to call it one piece at a time, but a little slit in the side. And if it's right on the side of a glass. So that's a nice way to do a garnish. There's also a way to do a twist. I have always been horrible. This what I'm gonna give it my best shot. And it's not going to be very good, which you take the twist, he peel off just the rind, then you've got a twist. But it always comes out crappy for me. And it usually is just a floating rind and the drink when I do it, so I prefer the lemon wedge on the side of the glass. So I'm going to mix up some. I'm going to squeeze some lemon juice right here. So I have six lemons. And I'm going to squeeze out the juice of the US so I can make a sour mix. So first the simple syrup was a one-to-one sugar to water ratio. And now I'm going to add about a cup and a half of lemon juice from the six lemons, right? So my mix, so now this simple syrup is off the heat, so it's simple syrup and now it's starting to become sour mix. So it's a different ingredient that's used by the Package Store. So when it mix it all up and while it's cooling off the heat. And I'm also going to do four lines. So a trick with alarms is to roll them in your hands ahead of time. You're supposed to do that before you caught it? I forgot to do it before and these were harder to squeeze. So if you roll them in your hands, it gets the juices flowing a little bit better and makes it easier to squeeze. I forgot to mention in the tools section that a knife and a cutting board are definitely part of the bar tools when you're going to caught garnish is at home. And also here comes a lemon juice, lime juice. And they do recommend a strain that you get some these pulp and seeds out, which I didn't do the first time. And then I thought would be a good idea to get some of the extra gunk out of there. So I'm going to stir this up one more time and let this cool the rest of the way. And we have ourselves our own sour mix that was made from an original simple syrup and yielded jar and three quarters pretty good amount, at least three cups for cops. And that's a good taste. Great. So some other great mixers that weren't picture, but I want to mention a cram bridges, orange juice and pineapple juice, milk and coffee. Enjoy. 8. Glassware: So next I want to show you some glassware. There's about 30 or 40 different types of glass where I have about 15 here to show you from my home bar collection. So I'll start with the smallest but the most deadly, the shot glass. This is for making shots of just whiskey or mixed shots. This is a 16-ounce paint glass from my friends at the labyrinth, rarely in-company in Manchester, Connecticut. And here is one of their beer Stein's. This is another beer glass. And a goblet. Here can also be poured in a 22-ounce. It's all. These are for making moscow Mules. My favorite of all is the crystal rocks glass. This is a four ounce wine glass for red wine. And this is a three ounce white wine glass. This is a champagne flute from a box of champagne flutes to buffer Whetten, which usually only come out of the box on New Year's Eve. These are coffee mugs for coffee drinks. This is a margarita glass for making margaritas. And martini glass or gin martini is, are bought from Martinus. And this is called a hurricane glass. And if I can only choose four, if you're just starting, I would go with a three or four ounce Lang glass, beer, wine glasses, rocks glasses, and some shock glasses. 9. Grateful Dead and Goodbye : All right, I'm gonna make ourselves a Grateful Dead. Two ounces of Bacardi Rum. Use a shock lasts for the rest when you're using one of those poorer spouts. Every four seconds is one else. So I did two ions poor, which means that it's a half an ounce. Somebody who is about a 30 shot glasses because they're a little bit bigger than announce each. Here's my contour all I'm using this instead of triple sec. So this is a top shelf. And that's the last of the triple sec and a little bit below half an ounce. And now we have those. Now this is the sour mix that we made. Two answers to that. And I'm going to put a bunch of ice in there. All right. So these have strainer tops as you put on top to shake. But I'm gonna do a Barton insert that is used in the business. Zag your fine glass and say get right in there. So that's ready and go back over to my top shelf and get my little nipper of Chambord. And now this could be a Long Island ice tea. Now, if you did a Coke flow on top, but I'm going to make it a Grateful Dead. So I'm going to do a flow of chamois up just another little bit and then that trickles down into the drink and makes that flow down pink. And that's a Grateful Dead. Instead of along iss t, there's only one difference in the ingredients. Thank you so much. Let me try first. Yep, that's good. Thank you so much for joining me.
