Video 1 - Learn how to STOP taking BORING photos:

In this video, I share with you my favourite technical, storytelling and compositional tip. Before you start exploring photo editing, you will place yourself in a much greater starting position by 'getting it right in camera.' You have probably heard that expression before. It basically means becoming more familiar with your camera, taking advantage of some of the technical features. Identifying a clear subject and photography intention (motivation for taking out your phone) will make it easier to set up a strong composition. These few tips will see the biggest transformation in your images before you even get to the editing phase.

Video 2 - My number 1 tip to avoid taking blurry photos:

Be honest, when was the last time you did this? There is nothing worse than the feeling of taking the perfect photo… and later realising that it is blurry, soft or lacking clarity.


  • Check the lens for any foreign matter
  • Quite often blowing on the lens will work
  • Lint-free cloths are great for cleaning most of the flat surfaces you can access
  • A cotton bud is perfect for those difficult to access areas on and around the lens. This is most effective to remove fingerprints, oil, smudges, dirt, and dust on larger lens attachments.
  • If you have a phone cover additionally clean the inside of the cover
  • If you have a lens attachment, make sure to clean front and rear lens

Do not:

  • Use a cleaning solution. If you feel you need to, then apply cleaning solution onto a cloth and not directly onto the lens.
  • Use a tissue. It can leave more on the lens than it removes! 

Video 3 - Discover your creativity by capturing a subject or scene 9 different ways:

This one is a bit of a challenge and a lot of fun! 

Choose any object either fixed or movable and find 9 different unique ways to capture it. You can shoot from front, rear, side, low or high angle, include props or shoot at different times of the day when lighting changes. If you find this one to be a bit of a struggle, feel free to capture a location 9 different ways. 

In the video, I encourage you to experiment looking for alternative capture angles, include props and study close up details of your subject or scene. 

Quick tip: Look for a subject that has multiple viewpoints will be much interesting than capturing an egg 9 ways!

Video 4 - Quick 6-step photo edit process on any smartphone in under 60 seconds:

In this video I demonstrate my 6-step photo editing process that I share in all my in-person workshops with photo enthusiasts like yourself. Using the free app Snapseed, this system will enhance any of your existing favourite images. There are no adjustment settings as each image will benefit from different levels of enhancement in each tool. This quick process is structured to provide the most transformation int he shortest amount of time before fine-tuning through more area-specific 'local' adjustments.

1. Introducing: Stop taking Boring Photos: Hello and welcome. I'm Mike James, smartphone photography I've put together this free video series because I want you to experience that transformation of becoming a bit more of a confident and creative photographer on your existing device. So you don't need to go out and upgrade your phone. You can leave your big camera behind. You can really get into photography at start, segue into the next level without the jargon, without the technical stuff. So there's five videos that I have he selected for you. Our attentional to kind of get you involved in photography storytelling, being more intentional, understanding composition. Try and get a little bit more out of your camera. I don't want to be technical. It's certainly not smartphone specifics as not an iPhone courses, not a Android cause it's not really even a course. It's just a collection of videos that I've put together. And I've selected these because these are the, these are the steps that will give you the quickest transformation. So 45 minutes all up. Yeah, I can't wait to see what you do. Video one is I talk about storytelling in photographic intention, how to recognize, okay, what is it that motivated me to take this photo and then set it up in a way that you're communicating that intention. That's the storytelling that we all hear about that buzzword that I didn't understand for so long. I said the next that's that's number one. Video number two is my number one tip for rides to stop tank blurry, photos, spoiler alert. It's basically cleaning the lens, but it's so much more than just walking your phone on your genes or your t-shirt. It's, what I'm using is actually a cotton bud. And you might say that on YouTube. You might say video like that or use a cotton bad because it removes fingers, knees because it's not just you using your phone more than likely, you might learn Ed's other people to take a photo of you sitting in a restaurant with your family and friends and might be mobi kids using it. It could even babies kicking around in your handbag or your pocket collecting dust and grime. And that removes the, the oils and, and that sort of thing. So I'll share a few more tips in that video, which is fantastic. Number three, discover your creativity. This is an exercise that objective focused exercise they get at and photograph a subject or a sane nine different ways and it's to encourage you look at different angles. Close update house further back using prompts, using lighting shape, form, lines, textures, All these things, I cover all that in that one. That one's good font. Video number four is my Six-Step photo editing process using a free app called Snap seed. But Google, it's available again on iPhone, Android, iPads, tablets. Every mobile device just about can get access to that. So I have a six step process that can transform any photo and really elevated and it's intentional. They six steps that deliberately. It's a framework that works because there's no duplicity, there's no doing something and then going and undoing it by the next step, as just flies really nicely. Step number five is introducing you to the stream in optics lanes range. Now talk about the macro and that sort of thing. Yeah, so that's it, that's the five. And you can see there I've covered storytelling, intention, composition below Frodo's head over where they were cleaning lanes, had to be more creative through this exercise, six, that photo editing process, and then extending the capability of your existing smartphone by using a quality lens attachments. So can't wait to see you the photos that you take and talk to you soon. 2. Photographic Intention and Storytelling: So let's get into it. The first section of this training today is three secrets to stop taking boring Ferrari's be more creative and create those more professional looking images. This has nothing to do with photo editing, these three types. The first one is going to be a technical one, subject intention. And then we're gonna talk about in a couple of compositional tip. So yeah, more than three, but the three My pots, technical subject and compositions. So technical tick is going to be tapping the screen. So when you have your camera, open it, most cameras have this feature. Android, iOS, whatever it is you've got when you tap the screen, you're actually telling the camera where to focus your doing a few things, but that's the main one. Is he telling it where to focus? For me when I first discovered this, it just blew my mind because I had no idea methodologists completely ordered. So what I've got here is set up is just quickly a flower. And now this is not, I haven't stops and fancy lodging or anything like that. But I want to show you is what I mean by the focus. Ok, so at the moment or I focus, it's kind of a just zooming. Yeah, it's pretty Sophie. This is a classic example of what I'm talking about where it's not quite sure what I should be focusing on. So far. Tapped it. Okay. I'm gonna long press on that. I can lock that. Once this lock now consuming scenario can zoom mean. And you can see there that it's, that it's focusing on that point on, you know, I'm actually too close, so I'm going to come back a little bit. Unless you have something like the stream and optics macro lens, you can actually, with this lens you can getting within a centimeter of the subject, which is fantastic for flower photos like this. But at the moment we're going to concentrate on just the native app in the naive camera. Ok, so back to the camera screen, kay, so need to be outside of that seven centimeters for this to work. Okay, Tip O'Neill, long press with the iPhone, we'll lock it. So now I can zooming guy. Okay, look at that. That's really focused. And you tell them digitally zooming the whole things, moving around. Okay. Alright. Tap anywhere else too? I'm Lockett. Okay. Now you'll notice wherever you attack, that's where we'll focus in the, I'm gonna tap on the leaves in the background and then he can say the foreground interests that flower has actually disappeared. Now, I'm going to bring both screens uptake and see me talking while I'm going through this because I'm talking to the camera, but you're not there. I'm sharing this grain, so here we go. Alright, so tap on the flower that becomes in-focus, tap on the background that now becomes in focus. And other thing this does is when you tap on the screen and it actually works out what it's going to balance the light and dark. Now at the moment in the scene that I have in front of us, the colors are fairly pretty much similar. I'm going to grab a watt back board, okay, so web that. I'm going to swap that with a watch. So now when I tap on the watch, it's going to do the exposure, the balance of light and dark based on that, we're not tap on this dark area. You see the leaves on the, on the flowers Heap. I'm going to bring that further back. So they're all similar distance from the lens. Right? Now, we're not tap on the watch. Have a look at the, the light, the tones of the leaves here. When I tap on the dark background, have a look how it adjusts. Says actually re-adjusted that exposure. It's a broad area. Lace become Dhaka, tap on the dock area, at least become a little bit broader. Now, might be a little bit difficult to say this on the little screen. So I'm going to bring this upside of that. So this becomes the full screen type on the broad area. So what it's doing is it's balancing gang ICA you want, instead of having a nice balance between the two, you want this white area to be perfectly balanced. Latin dock, now, tap on the black. It's doing the same thing, but it's affecting the whole image. So way you tap will affect the whole image. So ideally what you wanna do is tap on where you want to focus. I'm going to bring that flower patch into an area where we can separate from background so we can see the difference when I tap it, it's focused. One thing that I love and bring both of his back up again. One thing I love about this feature is the when you tab, you can actually have a hex to have a broadness slaughter, depending on what smartphone you have. If you have some lighter, a Samsung lids on easy mode, you don't have access to this. Some Androids you don't have access to a, you've gotta go into promote and do this sort of trick with the eyes are getting a little bit taken today. Most finds though, you tap on it, comes out with a little star icon and then a little broadness slot. And also it depends whether you have it. Landscape mode or portrait mode will, will dictate which why the brightness slaughters ten. So I'll go on the, I'm going to look at what you can do is now you can actually increase the brightness, will decrease the broadness. For me. Having a backgrounding technical photography where you get manual control in a squeeze as much out of it. And I'm going to have this creative control just blew my mind a really did. So then what you can do is you can put a spotlight on the tap on that broad area, and then you can control and make a duck and a whole background will become darker. It's just, you have so many options now. See, yeah, so type only and focus. Most, most that's activated it. And now we can use just that broadness. Really good for creating some depth because a lot of people who got Lilly wanted fraud image vibrant to quite often, sometimes with a subject. If you just reduce the exposure of reduced that broadness lot, it'll actually, the shadows will fall off this subject. You'll have more shape, you'll have more depth. It can really would say quick technical tip that one. If you need that tuple already, hopefully you're using irregular if you didn't, you're welcome. For me, that was an amazing discovery. And you probably say people going and tapping all different areas because they tronic get that exposure, that balance of light and dark, correct side, personally photographing or the scene looks right. But what they're doing is that they changing the focus so they could be tapping where all cake, right, that light and dark is working for now. That is in the focus, our template you want to focus swore up and down or left and right depending on your model in which while you're holding it. Next, I want to cover subject intentions. And now we're gonna get into the more of the storytelling of the image. It's so important before you edit an image, the economy. Look at the image, guy k. What did I take this far? I, what was the intention? What was the subject? Now, this image that I'm sharing here, if my son, I went out to the clothesline and I saw him looking at side and it was raining and pulling medley pulling close off the clothesline because it was writing getting wet. And I'm sorry, I'm looking at just a moment and tone of Gon na is an amazing capture. Fortunately, I had my camera in my pocket, so blockages, whip it out, grab this shot. And then when I went to edit this image, the story behind this image was him looking through the Rhine, looking at, sorry, looking a bit miserable. So when it came to editing, I knew what the intention was, I knew what the subject was, and I knew what the context was. It was when I was editing and change it to black and white that the textures in the water droplets just really stood out, removed the distracting color, that sort of thing. And the textures became the subject, the water droplets became the subject. And because he's always a colander of shadows and he's initialize is a little bit of mood and mystery to the, to the image. So that's what I mean by having some intention behind the foreign, knowing why it was he took the fire, makes a big difference because in the course I'll show you the tools and had used these tools, but it's also important to understand when to use it, why use it, and when not to use it. Sometimes we use these tools and they didn't need to. It looks a little bit over time. Now and I myself, when I first got into the mobile photography Mozi had there, I was mentored by a landscape photographers. How's that? They're taking a lot of landscape photography. And I was reading all these material bet storytelling and all down thinking doesn't make sense to me. It doesn't doesn't apply to me because I'm taking photos of his scenery, like how do I tell the story? But basically what it is, is, what am I trying to communicate? Not just taking a snapshot of the same here or a Metronic communicates the beautiful colors in the rocks. And we're trying to communicate the stillness of the war, the colors in the sky. So what it is you're trying to communicate and what stands out for me. That's what we mean by storytelling. We're trying to communicate visually, communicate with the audience and the viewer of your image. Eckert also pay yourself in yeast the KM, it travel photos, nitrified ours in yeast come, you wanted to be remembered through storytelling. Why was he took that image? Yes, sometimes we might be travelling, we might be outside in Florida is just not saying anything. I'm not saying any precise moments of interaction between Paypal, the lightings, not ideal, that sort of thing. There's lots of different opportunities fee creatively to come up with some stories, come up with some subjects. So could pay lot and shadow touch on that middle of the die? Yes. Morning, afternoon lot is fantastic because the sun's lower. Motor directionals, I get more shadows, but soft shadows because the sun is less intense, campaigns to the middle of the day with his sons above you and it's super broad, crowding, harsh shadows. In ice circumstances, those harsh sharers could pay the interesting element in the forests or it could be someone riding along. And they reflect the shadow of the bark rotting along and rotting into a tunnel or something like that. Getting that real severe contrast can be a really good subject as sign, something that just has interesting elements and angles and lines appointing, leading lines, all that sort of thing. It could be something like the color. They, some strong contrasting color could pay gestures between people's, something like that. The gestures that split second moment is he's really great subject. And the next one is ease current framing, how you set up the forests context, putting context in the St. I'll talk about composition. Nick's, that's the third step two, moving away from boring photos but having contexts. What 0s here, what's the subject? What supporting ingredients, elements in the image cannot bring into the framing that actually create the story. So if you think about a flower in a flower bed, isolate the flower is fantastic. If you just capture the flair and the center of the frame that becomes a specimen shop yesterday. Beautiful flower. Move it off to the side, include the rest of the garden bed. Then that's a photo of a flower in the garden bed and have been more context of where you are, that sort of thing. So that naturally segue into composition. So in the course, in Thursday's the probably 21 days, first five days you get access to at the end of this training, one of those subjects is cropping and it's a big part of setting up the composition because you can go back after your image, you go back and Tai Chi, I need to select these part of the image because this is how it works. Composition is one of those things that just is the biggest transformation from a snapshot to a wildfire because it looks so much more intentional doesn't that you can actually cut out the people that a half cut out of the edge of the image and that sort of thing. So we've talked about imagining that flower. So having a flower off center, it's a technique called the rule of thirds. It's a rule, but it's actually just a guard loin and it's there to help you place the subject off-center. So if you think about yourself when you're, when you're travelling or in a location where you wanted to just show everyone where you are. You naturally, you don't have yourself there in Charlotte. Little snippets of what's going on behind you. You place yourself off center so you could say, oh, your shoulder, so that we instinctively do it. And we can imagine a photo shooting. Someone showed us and someone sitting on a bench, Satan, and you're shooting pass them over their shoulders, to the back of their heads, off to the side, over the shoulder. What it does with storytelling and a combination of storytelling and composition. What it does is it helps the viewer imagine themselves being there and that makes it much more interesting. Engaging image. Something that evokes I'm sort of emotional response from Navy could be. I remember sitting on a park bench like that and I want to be there and that's what you want with your fathers. Shooting from different angles like that can make a big difference or say so often, parents with their kids taking photos at eye level and I just wanna go over there. And so none of them know you'd look shooting down at them. You might think that looks small and submissive like get down like Actaeon really low. That's another really Google on because we all experience life at eye level that way. So I've I've taken many photos in Melbourne is a location called princess breach. And getting down low, I've had people come in saying habits was near their Communist saying, I'll walk over that bridge every day and I've never seen it like that. And you'll say hundreds of people there every day taking photos from the bridge of the bridge along the river and the Yarra River. And just looking for a different alternative angle at different subject, that's half the fun is watching other pebble guy. Yeah, they're doing something different. I'm going to do something or they're doing everything the same, I would do something different or look for that person who is doing something different. Gum company limits. It's fluttering, isn't it? To go and copy them? No, it's not, it's not cheating that looking for an alternative angle, low angles, especially if you are a train and you get Dan low out of y of the train, but getting download, something like that can look really much more impactful. Lastly, I just wanted to mention the background. Check the background of the image. Look for that. Clutter, the distracting elements in the background. And I'm going to show you surely a why you can get rid of it in editing. If you can do it at the cap, just I can make a big difference. Just look at the background guy like I talk that context. Does this support the story? Is this distracting? So just moving around could be the difference. So just a recap. Tap the screen will set up the say, look at the subject, what's my intention? What's the motivation? Look for background, set up an interesting angle. Tap the screen, set the brightness exposure, lot ups. And there you have it. So you should not have N'T boring image anymore. It doesn't take much. But just by having much more intention behind the image, using the technology have and setting up the shop. Really set you up for fighter waiting for the next step. 3. Six-step photo editing process in less than 60-seconds!: A photo editings. And next part of what we're going to talk about. If you try to learn Photoshop, there is a very steep learning curve because it's complicated. It's there for graphic designers, it's there for so many different professions. Lot room is an improvement for ease of use, but it's still too much. You just want something that you can quickly within a minute. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. So I'm going to show you an app snaps aid that's really user-friendly, intuitive to use. It grows with you. It has advanced tools or as you become more confident and exploring different techniques that has the tools there that are kind of hidden away is show you how to do that. And the course intensities the proud in 21 days guys running the old eyes data's photo editing. This is the exotic training. That's why you've stuck with me this long and thank you so much. I really appreciate. And I, we've gone a little bit further integral of this now. But it's so important because when you come to the editing, give really need to understand those fundamentals. We've covered it with the subject, the intentioned composition, all that sort of thing. So many more that we haven't covered, like lighting and all that sort of thing. But I just want to keep this really simple and give you the most transformation in the shortest manner taught. So when it comes to editing, an app that I use is snaps it and it makes up the bulk of Marcos intuitions to pro in 21 days. The reason for that being is that it's available on most devices. It's quite intuitive to use. It has a lot of simple, basic editing tools in there, as well as some really advanced, some of them quite hidden and tucked away. This app gives you a lot of versatility depending on what sort of guide you haven't showing you different techniques, you can produce a lot of quite a vast creative range of different results with your editing. Sorry, it's one that I use. I do have you've probably done this. I downloaded a hundreds of apps, whole dozens of apps at least, and still haven't quite found the right one. That's my favorite. That said I've got about a half a dozen that are Guide to in, in the course. I cover each of them and when I would go to them. But this six step process I want to share with you is the starting point for most of my images. Alright, so let's get into it. So he's an image that I captured just last week. It was an image where I was driving along and I thought, oh, that looks like in credit fight opportunity. And it took a few seconds and about well, I'm going to find, go back and get its Hockney did a U2 and went back, popped up, kind of walked in us and slowly saw that I didn't disturb these cows. This was a dam to soundless. All arrived, but it was late in the afternoon and it just completely still water. And the theme for a Facebook group that wake because I have new things every week to continually inspire and motivate. And for us to have that community of learning in that Facebook were still water was a great topic and very popular topic. And this was a perfect opportunity to grab one of these instead of just grabbing a photo on my camera roll and re-sharing something, he went up, pull it up. You wouldn't believe it are going to get three shots off and they wanted these cows, the one on the right just happened to walk straight in there and just ruined completely ruin that Stillwater. But this was a classic example of what motivated me to write these photo was lost in the camera like this guy's. The color was amazing. The reflections on the water was really smooth and nice, gradual from blue to the colors. This is a great example, I think two, to go into Heat. The first step of my Six-Step Process. Well, I'll go through each of them. It's it's basically. Rotate, perspective to rotate the angle, cropping. Next thing is chain image. Then we're going to enhance the day tiles. I can make it a bit shop. We're going to do some healing which is going to be going there removes different parts of the image. And lastly, some add some blur. And I'll explain each of those. And while do each of those processes and want to tap on the pencil heat net depends which way you are holding the fine. So at the moment, I'm holding it in landscape. Sod, holding Assad and horizontal. So tap on the pencil. Yeah, there's there's one he called roadside. Now naturally you would think a cow or a right tight stripes on it. That is the one and that's what this tool is full. But you'll see they went all right time. I'm gonna do this to the extreme so that you can see exactly what I'm doing. You can see it actually zooms in as well. So that cow on the rod, say for example, this horizon wasn't quite right. And you've really need to get the horizons rot. And you'll talk to people in my Facebook group. They'll tell you, Mike euro, as you're telling us about the horizons. That's because the horizon, no matter how good your image looks, is to the horizon, is not perfectly strike. The person will subconsciously guy that Fido is wrong at doesn't look right. So that's why we gotta get those horizons right. But using the rotate tool you can see here when we do that, it zooms in and then potentially you could crop something yet like that cow. So I, I'm not a fan of this one. There is an alternative and it's kind of, it brought mixed in with a perspective is kind of hidden away. They inhale you've got respective control. We can change the perspective of how it looks. And we'd go on, they called right side. Now when you tap on the bottom here, you've got a couple of different things here. I'm going to explain it off after our opponents, so we've got smart. Okay. When I go and rotate C, They were the count on the rod is still there and then we've got those black areas on either around it, right? So what Smart does is it picks up what's on the inside, the other side of that black edge and fills it in. Okay, so I'll go to the extreme and look at that cell. It strikes a bit, but it hasn't zoomed in and go the other way. Okay. Same deal. How could that? It's through Photoshop stuff. It's quite amazing. And I'll, if I wanted to go in there and change that to black, what it'll do is it'll just fill it in with black. But I'm going to choose smart and bank. It's just, it's just really incredible you can do that. So I'm pretty happy with that. Another thing you can do here is you can change. You can tilt it so that it looks like that it's from a different angle. But this image is pretty broad, so I'm going to leave it there locked that. The next step is cropped. So back into the pencil tool and I'm going to go second row, first one alone, crop. Right. Now, most of my images at home, what I like to do is crop everything in 69. And the reason for that is that aren't really print many photos. They are because I'll go through 75 years and and I want to stay fresh and I don't want to wait until we get printed and ends up on the walls, dies there for you want to rotate through my images. So I quite often got a 69 because I can display it on my TV. This image. He Oh, I really, really want to get rid of that Cal Day. So I'm happy with that 6-day non-corrupt. Now. Now I need to look back at and guy.. What was the intention of these image? Was it say the theme was still water so I could crop it down there. And then the main focus, if you locked because it's two-thirds of the image is still water. That is what I'm trying to communicate. If it was the colors in the sky. I would move it up and then two thirds of the image is disguised that then that becomes the story. So I think when I captured this image, that was the, that was the intention. But I really locked as talers are really want to bring those colors out for the, for the purpose of this training. So tick on the pencil when we're wrought. And next one is 2D image. So we want to go back into the tools and training images. The first one, top row on the left, June image down the bottom that you can say an icon for it, just say you can tap on that. Or you can just swap the finger up and down and it'll open up things. I want to go to ambience. Now I'm going to go through this a little bit quickly. W1, W2, consent if the guy's IVF head, that's fine. In the course 21 days. 21 days. I'll got through age of the ASI much more day tile. I'm just gonna go through it really quickly, swapping to the extremes just to say what it does. When I say Where are locket, I bring it back a little bit. Contrast, zooming in a little bit. Okay. Highlights, reduced those broad areas just enough that it doesn't look a bit grungy. Shadows. I'm going to bring these back because there's a bit of light on the edge of that cow or ISO moving around. He saturation is where I can change the intensity of the colors. Now, what makes that a little bit stronger because I want those colors, they press on the tick. Next was shopping. So I'll go into details. Top priority second from the left shop and there's two sections to this, this structure and the sharpening size structure. Structure looks for lines within the image where there's some contrast and it'll take those lines and it'll darken and lot and one-sided whether that's lack Ahmad or Kola, it'll do the same thing. It just makes that contrast a little bit stronger and it can very quickly get really grungy. Or say you say they say random chaos. See how got the white lines? Are you getting that high, low? So I'm going to bring it back so that it sharpens it before we get to the site, really comment too much. Next one shop any indiscriminately sharpens every single little dot of data. Going to sharpen that up. Okay, tap on that. Next step is healing. Ok, so now I can go in there and look for those distracting elements and going there and just get rid of them. So in the water here, I've looked at this swap ivory. He say read like a gone. It's fantastic, it's so good. And limitations. The distracting element if we go to E, sorry, so say for example, one to get rid of that, get rid of the i's having done. It won't work. So this is the thing I want work to get rid of a cow. Because the way this works is where I swapped my finger. It's looking for content and data and information, if you like, on the other side of the red and then it's filling any. And so I went to lick of these. Ada saw the cat is going up kind of what do we, what do you want me to fill in here? And I can come up with some aji results like that. So not fantastic. Another wrapping the close in Thursday's the pro in 21 days, I'll show you another app that does a much better job, but for little quick fixes and that's what snaps that is really handy for is just quick little steps. Actually this give this one to go. We might be able to get in the shed. I see how these guys that didn't work either. Okay, zooming pressure from different sides, different angles. I want to say you wanna zoom back out what this looks like. Here we go. One cow without a shadow. That's pretty creative. Ok. We've abroad spot day go. That's funny. I take on that. Happy with that. Next step is blue. So now with the blur, that is lens blur. So it's the far right, last second, last row, lens blur. Now this is where you can go in and make the main subject in focus the rest of it. Because, why do you think that is? So what it does is it attracts your eye to what's sharp and in focus quite often what's brought up. And then once Docker and add or focus your eye doesn't guard a. So this is where we can start really manipulating the viewer. The fuel could be yourself looking back in these Fido is a memory and use the count. So what happens is you're all guys over there. For those of us amateur photographers that were looking at discount. But that's not how a camera works. That Caen looks weed because, because though I focus works is distance from the camera to the subject is out of focus. Section is in-focus. Then beyond that is artifact having a portion like that in focus and then add a phi, just doesn't work so it looks wrong. So you have these options down here where you can go right linear. And we can move these around. Move it around, going to adjust the transition, reduce that transition. I want to make sure that Canada was a good person. Just moving yet strict. So vignette is whether darkening of the edges. So you can say by default it's already added some, some document. I want to bring that back just a little bit too much. And you say what's happened, he though. But doing this, any sort of pixelization or artifacts in the sky, we've blurred it all out. So that's why I locked that tool. All right. So there we go. There's our before and these are after, before, after. Last quick, simple process I've gone through and a little bit of detail. I told you we could do this in less than a minute. So I'm going to go in there and I open up another image. 60 seconds. Here we go, perspective and I'm gonna rotate this one. Yeah, happier that going to crop my square crop and this one. Yep, that's good. 2d image. Ambience. Shadows are lot Spring guys wrote down brightness. There. That's good. Day tiles. Yeah, that's great because that's what I really wanted to show off was the data's in this one. Healing. Whoops, oh, zooming first. What do I want to heal out of this? What do I want to remove? K12? I do. He's just the top. They'd just get rid of that. Just a bit of Border Patrol and blow my last one. Maybe guy was only seconds away. It wasn't. So there's there's at before. There's are often. So you can say that with the rod image you can get 60 seconds. Regardless, it's a quick ASI prices. The Eastern fall I, it's my starting point for most of my editing. And then from that point, then I can go in there and go, you know what, the healing didn't quite work. I'm going to use this tool or I want to add another image to be the double exposure and add another image for a textured background or something like that. Look for alternative perspectives and viewpoints: This activity is a bad capturing something non Weiss. Well, why do that? Because I want you to go out of your comfort zone. I want you to explore, come up with something unique, alternative angles, alternative prompts, lighting that sorting. So I want you to choose one item. Could be inside your home, could be at at in the backyard. It could be at a POC wherever it easy locked to go out and take a five out. Just fond one. Subject could be a tree, could be a pot that could be achieved in a, a that I've used in my example. And basically I just want you to go out and I'll bring up my fighter. And I wanted you to capture at nine images of one subject. And you can see here these Abdul fire, Jiminy of captured textures, of captured a reflection, of captured alternate angles. And I've focused in on certain day tiles of gone full contrasting sharpness and shop and soft of highlighted the textures of zoomed-in on Io, moved in, got colleagues in zoom pinch and zoom had gotten close with my camera and focus on one part of the chimney, the handle of God inside captured some of the rusty colors there. I've gone for a silver tone, which is like a monotone black-and-white kind of image. So that's what I'm encouraging you to do is get out there and take nine different photos of the same thing and it just experiment, just experiment. That's what I want you to do with you with this creative development is just experiment, just look for different things and understanding some of those principles we've talked about with rule of thirds, vignette, color, color, contrast, all those things that we've talked about so far, try and implement some of those things or some of your experienced, some of the knowledge you already have, just apply some of that as well in an area and you got it. Okay. I'm struggling with this. Just go to a location, your backyard, your front yard, and just take nine different photos of that location. We achieved the same thing that way. It's not as difficult, but we're still looking at different things, focusing on day towels, looking at context and an angles, background, that sort of thing. It's a great fun challenge. Once you've got your NOI and images, then use an app called Layout, bought Instagram, or picks out. Picks out, which is another free app. You can go in there and got a collage, Micah and ethanol and photos. And yeah, I found doing it that way with the nine squares. Square images. Just worked really well. So have fun with that one. 5. Clean your lenses the right way: Welcome back. In this lesson, we're going to learn how to clean the lens and the best way of claiming the lens. Now, previous experience, yes, you'll have data cleaned your lanes on a regular basis. More often than not, we just use the t shirt or something like that to just give it a warp ever. So I'm gonna show you how to give people orbit. They claim. What you'll learn is some techniques where to claim, how often a claim at what materials to use that sort of thing. Why the big Y? Well, this is the number one reason why you end up with blurry images to tell you a story. Recently when I was traveling, I had this amazing location of the Millennium Bridge where I was Dan, really low, incredible structures. And then you've got St. Paul's Cathedral rod at the end of it and took some amazing shots, beautiful lighting on the truth guy back home and looking at all the preferred Eisenstein editor. And I didn't clean the lanes. There wasn't one single usable image and I struggled to get back at there that Tom if diet again to get that far. And I clinic, you miss out on shots like that. So the tactics yes, I'm going to go through number one to share with you straight away is the cotton bud. So I'm going to show you how to use that. Before I do that though, just a quick story. As part of my mission to help photosynthesis lock yourself, get more out of the smartphone for photography and be more creative in that sort of thing. And to really get the most out of your existing smartphone, are present a camera clubs on a regular basis. And the most recent one was actually online via Zoom, which was which was fun and Lacan normally two, I asked the question, why don't you use the smartphone more regularly and I'll get the same responses. It's low resolution. I end up paying grainy and gritty and speckled and noise and artifacts, all that sort of thing. So I showed them a few techniques that I'll share later in this course on how to do that. And I show them, hey, you could actually get no noise evident in your photos which plies them ally, print size for this next one. So I actually grabbed the whip, came, picked it up, took them into another room. Product. My three-year-old macro image had that on the screen next to me. And you can see the incredible data that you can get out of as smartphones. But that only happens when you claim the lenses number one step. And the other one is blurry image. A lot of them said I my images row-wise blurry on my smartphone. It's because I've got an old fart. It's not, you don't need to have the latest and greatest foreign ticket TechShop images, which is why you're he, you know, is that there's lots of techniques that you can do that. So I asked the question, okay, what lenses that everybody got. People saying I've got this and that those are expensive lenses in this group say, just goes to show that the caliber of these amateur photographers were in this Photography Club. And I said how often declared the lenses and they probably thinking Spotfire photography, YZ asking this but I got in a And when's the last time you cleaned your smartphone lens? And crickets, no-one was in the chat, which was surprising because everyone was engaging and getting wide and vote. And then start talking to people, started commenting and it actually admitting, I've never cleaned my lens other than just giving it a WAP. I've never given it a proper clay, which is extraordinary because as you know, it is the number one tip or you get blurry images. This is the not being cleaned enough. So with that, I'm going to show you how to do that. So just take these off. First thing we'll do is actually take the cover off. Okay, so we take the cover off. We go at different tops of covers. Some of them hold credit cards and that sort of things. I can imagine where these fines are ending up and getting stuff collected alive with him. On YouTube, you say all sorts of tips. So someone recommend using a tissue, do not use a tissue that is the worst because it will actually leave more positively more on Ned and I'll actually remove we just heard good. The other day not is is lens cleaning solution. You can use it the sprite but spread onto a cloth. And I would really do that last. And, and I really haven't done it yet with a smart phone. Probably because I, once upon a time, many, many years ago, 20 years ago, I dropped it directly onto the lens and an absolute ruin to $2 thousand lenses back then that was a lot of money. Actually took a personal loan out for that, for that lens. So I'm probably a bit shy of that solution. Psi Lynn cloth, fantastic, getting cured he could claim around the adenine cuz the reason we claim these, these because dust collects dust. So we want to get in there and give that a rule could claim in a screws for the lens screwing that acclaim. Never go and move on to here. First thing I'll do is have a look, make sure there's no visible debris foreign matter on there. Okay. See something on the entity. I'm just going to add a little know, people will say, don't do that. It'll introduce condensation and that sort of thing. But just check it is condensation, Just let it dry and then maybe we can give it a watt. Okay. Remember when we walk down the phone because we're walking down the whole area around me. So whopping down the front? Don't forget to erode around these multipath lens cameras that have rises, yada, yada and clean dies as well. And don't forget the selfie camera on the front. Now you might not be into selfies and that's okay. I'm not either. I'm still trying it give that a claim there as well. Because if you like climate, that'll be the 1to1, you want to use it. Okay, so that's looking really good. Now the movement of my secret weapon, and this is when you want, say on YouTube, you might see on the Internet people recommending this rectangle. Why? Two reasons. One is the kitchen and it'll actually removed, also absorbed the oils from your skin. Skin oils, isn't that lovely? Actually getting the federal deficit, the flashes, Well, okay. Alright. Second reason why if you have a lens attachment, This is brilliant because this stream in optics lens, the PEC lens, because we reclaim that. But quite often we forget the little one at the back there. And that's just as important. So computer for cotton buddy, with this particular lens, the glass is actually insults such recessed at it underneath. So I can't get in there with this. I just can't get in there and climate side. So that's we're all getting there with this. Perfect. Perfect. Okay. Give that a warp. It's called big lens. So I'm going to walk and I can't help it. It's an old technique is the guy from the outside, but there's a lot of glass lock the Saudis some what angled lens then work from the outside and circular motion towards the middle. And getting sorted thread there as well. I'll octa came on spotless. Fantastic. Number one tip. Blurry images is check your lens because that's where you'll end up with as ugly sunflowers where you don't want them and can't just absolutely ruined mysteries. Amazing shots. I'm Mike James, smartphone photography training. You. More importantly, you're a smartphone photography enthusiasts who wants to get more out of your smartphone and enjoy that, have their passion in photography. Take it to the next level with tips and tutorials and training like this. What I heard today as extreme an optics, cinematic, wide-angle lens. I've shown you this lens before, but what I'm going to be emphasizing this time in this video is the macro feature built into it because it is amazing standalone as a wide-angle lens. But the fact that you can actually go in within, get into a subject a centimeter away, means wearing your Anabaena, say a flower, you can just getting a getting inside the flower and not miss out on that macro creativity and fun and enjoyment. The benefit of this over others, other optics, macro lenses is that has that 100 degree field of view instead of a 50, three-fifths cinematic macro. So you get a wider field of view. So and you're getting nice and close, you can get more context inside the flare or whatever it is that you're taking a photo off basically as an ambassador for streaming updates. As you know, I'm I love their rule, but our advocate and love their range of looked at lots of different phone attachments over over the years. And I keep coming back to these because main's quality, portability, durability, and it's super easy to use. You don't need to be complicated, doesn't have to be complicated. You just screw it in. And having universal claim comes with each lens. Or you can get this case for iPhones and selected Android models as well. If you can't get one of these, then the Universal client works really well as well. To get a little technical for a moment that have multi-level crystal nano coating and multi elemental multi-class elements in a bit of technical speak there basically what that means is that it has lots of clarity. Dave, contrast, H2O, H sharpness, which is messy, especially with a wide angle lens. Wide angle lenses and most of them you, you'll see out there in the market is they'll have softening that Anna focus around the ages and they're a bit darker in the h's. Near. If you do use the universal claim over top of your existing phone cover, that takes the lens further away from your, from your smartphone lens. So because of that extra distance, you might get some of that darkening ran the edges. If you do just pinch and zoom and it'll, it'll get rid of that so it's really good. All right, so let's get straight into this particular lens. As I say, a 100 degrees field of view. You can getting super close with a wide angle lens. Objects that are closer look bigger and everything else looks smaller. So I'm going to release flower here. I'm going to take a photo of these flower with you. Now might, I'll grab a backing board because you don't want to look up at that life. Alright, so this is not going to be an exercise on composition, lighting, all that sort of thing. Purely just want to show you this lens and what it does. So I've got the lens screwed in. This is what I've got here. Tennis MX, iPhone with the case, these cases of annual every iPhone model and selected Android models as well. All right, so there we go. We've got that lens on there now. And you can see straight away, you can see the clarity in the, in the, in the details. Now, you can say that there's some HDH. There's a little bit of soft focus up on the right. That's because it's, the flower is on an angle, so it's actually closer to me. So if I tab over there, you can see there that's actually really shot rot on the edge there. That's really sharp eyed tap down here on the bottom. That's super sharp. So you can see that when I say HDH sharpness it, that is extraordinary. There's no darkness in the corners. I mean, you can see the top of the rod, the top-left, no vignetting, really impressive lens. As a wide angle lens, I used this one where I run workshops for real estate agents, property, property inspections, that sort of thing, or indoor pharaohs, they just, it's just fantastic as the way to go. But you can see here, okay, I'm going ton autofocus. I'm just gonna leave it on that and getting it nice and close. Okay. There we go. Too close. Actually, what I'm gonna do is I'm going to use the Lightroom camera app. Here we go. Learn camera up. What I love about this, don't be intimidated by this, by this app. It is an Adobe product. It's free. If you set up a free Adobe account, you don't have to subscribe to use the app. If you do subscribed, then you get access to some extra, couple of extra little features like selective editing and being able to sync you fertilize with your, with your computer and on the cloud. I don't, I let my subscription run out years ago because after everything, homophones now. But what I wanted to show you here is what I focus, I continue to manual focus. Now they had this really cool feature he called Focus speaking. So you can see on the screen here that it's actually gone green where you can see that it is in focus. So with this, with this lens, you can see I've captured that whole flower, almost that whole flower in focus. And unlike the High Definition 2.8 magnification lens, has two millimeters that scene focus any really get the front or the center or the back, not even with that with that lane. So this one, if we hold the further back, we can get all of it even focus as we get closer to the G20 because my tripod Scott little rubber bits on it. As I get closer, I'm going to use them in your focusing it. See I can actually focus just on those front bits that stand out. That one I sustain a bit further. What are the disadvantages of that is that it can look like a kid look like the kind of floating separately because the background blur is so good on this lane side. It's a creative thing. There's no right and wrong, but it's up to you what you want to achieve. You can go back a little bit. Okay. Yeah, it's just so cool. That range. So that's what I'm showing you here with this manual focus. So I can show you the range, that scene and out of focus, the cinematic macro, you have to take the photo of the subject within eight centimeters. The High Definition 2.8 magnification lens, the hedge tailings. You have to be three centimeters by three centimeters. This lens, it's infinity. It's a wide-angle lens. So today, free day purpose lanes or you don't have to be close, you can be a meter away and still use it. But you've got the macro lens with you. So you can have these links attached in your glove box, handbag wherever you want to have it. You've always got raises protective case and just being able to have that ability to use it as a macro lens and get photos. Nas and super close like BTS is pretty amazing. Extremely first style is the most versatile ends I've come across. There are some other wide angle lenses out there. Some of them are quite good, but none of them have the macro ability.
