1. Intro: Hi, I'm really play for that special You'll change and watercolor artist behind the block. You made that up. I'm so excited to bring it another one class, and this class is all about resisting mix with WATER COLUMN In this class, I will show really fun. Resist techniques using mask include wax candle, China marker and Creole crayons. Will start was easy to follow exercises and create simple patterns. Them will move to more complicated techniques and quit beautiful floral designs and colorful paintings. And we'll send you to the class by creating gorgeous fashion illustration. If you always curious about masking fluid but didn't know the right way of using it, this grass is for you. I hope this quest will inspire you, and he will uncover the magic off this pond technique and create your own beautiful illustrations. 2. Art Supplies: here, you can see all art materials that will need for this quest. First, we'll need a car paper, and I'm gonna use my strength more sketchbook and watercolor bad. But feel free to use any work or baby you have because this quest is all about trying your technique and experimenting with different our supplies and either wanted to use a really expensive art materials, especially at the beginning. We don't need the war campaigns here. I have Windsor Newton pants out and Majella Mission gold in tubes. When it comes to watercolor, I really love paints in tubes because the pigment is more vibrant and saturated than pigment in the pants set. Here, you can see that I have tubes by different brands and I love to experiment. So when I find collars that real love, I can just quit him on my ballot and use altogether. Next, we're gonna meet masking fluid here. I have two different types, but for this project we need on the one I just want to show you the difference between these two brands. So for the 1st 1 you need small container. And when it comes to the second bomb, we just take the top off on. Apply the fluid directly on the paper and where you know I will show you how. Now let's talk about brushes. Musket food can easily with your brush. That's why I would recommend using old or an expensive synthetic brush. Here I have to synthetic brushes in different sizes. One big brush for applying watercolor Bani. If you don't have a panini, it's fine. You can use something like a toothpick. Where is this technique? It's also fun to try something like Peel off China marker back scandal or even kids crayons . And later I will show you really interesting ways to use all this stuff. And last but not least, we need two jars off water. One Gereb is Queen Bora and one jar with soapy water. Soapy water will protect your brushes from them, asking food. So you just makes liquid soap service border and you go to go 3. Project 1 / Introduction to Masking Fluid: we're gonna start with playing around with masking fluid. I want you to understand how it works and get really comfortable using. Here is the example off what the first project? A little quick you can see. It's very simple. Patterns and basic shapes for bigger shapes and thick lines will use brushes and for thin, delicate lands will use any plan. Don't worry if you don't have a new plan to speak or vegetable stick work perfectly fine. Today. I have this vegetable stick on, but the best part. I don't have to quit it from asking food. I can just throw it away and use another one. Make sure you have everything we need and let's get started before using masking fluid. Shake it well, and when you opened the bottle, be prepared for very unpleasant smell. But don't worry about it. It's a common sign. Nothing's wrong with it. Pour a little bit in a small container and don't forget to close the bottle because it can dry really quick. So on the first page I will paint different shapes, lines and patterns. I did my brush and paint, just like with watercolor. In the beginning, it's hard to control it, because masking fluid is secret and watercolor. But after some practice you get used to. I start with bigger shapes and seek lines, and then we'll go smaller, so you'll see the difference between working with brushes and knee, pen or toothpick. Get creative. Experiment with different shapes. Lines, add different dots and feel free to make any pattern you want dependent on the brushy. Using you can go really seek or really seen, just like with the water color. Now I will wash my brush in the silky water and let it dry a little bit so people wouldn't will wash off the Maskey food from your brush. But you need to remember to quit it every 20 to 30 seconds. Otherwise, if musky fluid dries on the brush, the brush is ruined. I will work with an al Abrash, and if you use in just one brush, clean it in the soapy water, drive with paper towel and you're good to go. Now. Let's create very thin and delicate lines. Ah, usual paintwork week, and if I see that in some areas there is no musky food, I can just go over and at Sam on top. Using any plan or toothpick, you can create a really interesting designs. So what exactly is a resistant nuke is basically applying something on the paper to resist the color? Musky flute is a robbery materials that resist the watercolor. So if you apply musky fluid first and then you apply what a collar on top. The area that is under the masking fluid will remain white. This page is just for practice, so I keep getting around the marks and florals to get about understanding off the texture. On days when I used Resistant Nick, I usually plan ahead three or four illustrations in different sketchbooks or watercolor pads, and the reason why I do it is after buying masking fluid. You need to let it dry for three is 10 15 minutes. So while one illustration is drying, I work with something else. Indifference gauge Book one must keep food is completely joined. I contained on top is watercolor, and then I have to let the paint dry and it's another 10 15 minutes. So the best way is to work on several projects and just rotate your sketchbooks this way. You're not gonna just sit and waste any time. And that's exactly what we're gonna do in this quest. So I'm done with this page. I will let a dry for 10 15 minutes, and meanwhile, I will work on something else. 4. Project 2/ Floral Composition: after some practice painting basic shapes. Now you have an idea about musky fluid, and you know how to work with it. So let's create interesting floral design. We'll start with Muskie fluid and on top will create the colorful water column wash for the inspiration. I'm using my own coloring book that I designed a while ago. Here. I have some nice flowers that are perfect for this project. I'm not going to copy all the tiny details, just a general idea of the flower design. You can choose any design photo illustration as an inspiration. I will also include a few pages from this coloring book. You can find them in the quiet description, so feel free to download and use for this project. I'm sketching very loose, not gonna have to money details. I also used very light pencil marks. So when the artwork is done and muscular is removed, I can easily erase all the pencil marks if I want to. I finished the jury. Let's apply musky float. I dipped the brush and start covering old passel marks. This must conclude is slightly tinted. It has yellow scholar. You can also find it in light blue, and it's really helpful because you can see a where you already applied it. In the end, it will come off anyway, and the slime gonna leave any marks or yellow collar on your artwork. One thing to remember is when musky flowed is completely trying. You have to remove it from your painting. If you leave it on the painting for more than 12 hours, it can ruin the paper, aren't tested with different types of paper. So I left musky fluid on different types off paper for more than 12 hours, and in some cases it laughed yellowish marks, and in other cases it kind of stuck to paper, and when I tried to remove it, it was coming off with the layer off paper, so try to avoid it for now. I'm done with this speech. I will let her drive for 10 15 minutes, and while it's drying, let's go back to our first page and at some color 5. Adding Color to 1st Project: make sure that masking fluid is completely Jerry. You can tell it's dry when it looks shiny, something like plastic and now all its at some color. I'm gonna use my big watercolor brush first, dip it in water and add some to the paint. I will dub around with Clean the Web brush, just adding some water to the page. Now I'm going to get a lot of pigment and start painting on top off musky fluid. Here, you can see that pigment doesn't even stick to areas that are covered with Lasky food. I will add different colors to make it more vibrant them around and see how Friedman's just played together and create the slab with texture. I love wet on wet technique because he can experience what the real magic off watercolor. This technique is really useful when you need to paint a background and want to protect some areas or small details. So you cover this tiny details with Meskhi fluid and paint on top. I'm gonna fill up the whole surface with different colors and let a dry for a little bit. If you want to speed up the process, you can use a hair dryer. If no, just let it dry naturally, 6. Adding Color to 2nd Project: Now let's check out florals. Kitsch. Make sure that masking fluid this completes the joint and let's get some color for this floral illustration. I will go wild. I'm gonna add a lot off color like a lot of must and just enjoy the process in case you're a little bit confused. Why I keep switching with these two projects? Let me explain. I think it's the best way to work with masking fluid because your desk is already set up for the technique. You have all the supplies ready, and you're not wasting any time while must food and water College tries here. I used the combination off complementary collars, and they make each other to stand out and mike artwork really colorful. If you want to learn more about watercolors, please check out my previous quest. When I'm done with the paint, I will let a jury, and now it's time for the most exciting part. Feeling off musky flood when you use a lot of water of the pages in your sketchbook on start kind of buckling up to prevent it. It's great to use paper clips so the pages will be flat and even 7. Removing Masking Fluid: Okay, so when the paint is drying, you can remove master food with a razor or your finger. What I love about masking fluid is you can get really crisp lines off white surface, and it's really valuable when you worked with watercolor. So depending on the brush you were using for playing masking food, you can get from really beak and six strokes to really thin, delicate lines. And it's always so interesting to see what the final piece looks like. If you're like me and you prefer removing masking food with your finger, make sure your hands are dry and clean. Okay, so our test bridges down and you see that you can use a variety of different tools to plan mass, keep alert and get different textures and lines. Okay, so now let's do the same and peel off masking fluid from our floral composition. Uh, I actually really enjoy the process off, peeling off the masking fluid it Arabs off really easily, and the lines that were connected come off in one single piece. I hope you love this technique as much as I dio, and he will join me for another project that I will show you in the next video 8. Masking Fluid in a Squeeze Bottle: as I mentioned earlier. Musky food comes in different colors, and also you can purchase it and different models. For example, earlier, we use masking food that you need to pour in a small container, and here I have one that comes in squeeze bottle. You can also up for the original masking fluid in a squeeze bottle like this that you can find in our stores. So let's see how it works. You can squeeze it directly on paper at the beginning. It's hard to control because if you squeeze too hard, you'll get so much musky fluid on the paper. But after some practice, it gets really easy and so much fun to work with. And even if you must stop, don't be afraid of it. Because once musky fluid is dry, you can peel off a tiny piece or the whole page and just start over. There are so many ways to use it, you can do the end right with it. It's another really fun way to play around in your sketchbook, so don't be afraid to experiment. Get creative and paint anything you want in just Cage book with the school's bottle 9. Wax Candle, Crayons and Peel-off Marker: when you're working with watercolors and you want to create the resist, you can use pretty much everything that has backs in it. For example, vax, candle crayons and I recently discovered this appeal off China marker. You can feel off this part on Joe, just like with pencil. This markers are used for writing on glass porcelain, but I love using with watercolors here. Haven't example off putting marks with back scandal, and it's sort of a nice Teoh. Use it for the highlights and different textures. So let's cast all the supplies and see the difference between them all. I will start with masking fluid. Well, just basic shapes, Nothing fancy. You can draw any pattern you want. I'm gonna rinse it in the soapy water. I'm just let it dry. Now that's job with Koreans. You can see that my white crayon is really tiny now. That's because I use it a lot for this technique. Now I will do the same with the peel off China marker and at the bottom I will put some marks with Novak scandal. Now we have to wait a little bit onto musky fluid is trying, and here's one difference already. You don't have to wait until Vex candle or crayons will dry. No, let's add some color. I will take darker pigment so you can see the marks better, and you can see how all the marks start appearing on the page. And it's just really fun speaking to your creative process. And you can use such simple supplies like crayons or wax candle, and I'm sure you have something like this in your house. I will let the paint dry so the paint is dry and let's see. Ah, the difference. We can see that of the marks after musky fluid are really sharp, and you can create real sharp ages using musky food. And when it comes to crayons and peel off China marker of X candle, it's kind of texture, so it's nice to use for highlights and texture. 10. Fashion Illustration With White Crayons: one of my absolute favorite tricks when it comes to resisted. Big is German with China Marker or white crayons for my kids Crayola box. If you follow me on instagram, you know how much I love using this technique for creating oppression illustrations, and I hope I will inspire you to on you will create your own fashion illustration. Today in the class downloads, you can find this precious figure template and use it for the project. So I cut out the figure, and what I'm gonna do is I will use peel off China marker or you can use Korean and trace the figure. If you want to draw a girl wearing jeans, weaken. Just trace the whole figure. But I want to draw her in dress so I will stop at the level of heaps and then just extend the lions and draw the lines form of the dress. Right now I'm sketching white on white so you can't see anything. But when the watercolor is applied, you'll see all the nice details. Now I'm just getting more details. I build your hair, our facial features, but you can keep drone face and add more details when the watercolors try and you can use ink plan, and now I will draw Floro breathe on her dress. If you look from the top, you can really see anything, but if you look from another angle, you'll see all the lines. And now you can add more details if you need it. When you don't sketching, let's add some color. The good thing about using Crayola is you don't have to wait until your sketch is joy. I like With Muskie food, you can apply watercolor right away. The most exciting part of this technique is when you start adding color and the sketch appears on your page, just like magical. - No , I just them around at some purple, and it will look really nice when the sketch is dry. Well, the water collar is drying. I will show you illustrations that I created using this technique. So the 1st 1 is just peel off China marker and watercolor, and to the 2nd 1 I added some details with my in Japan. So now the water collar is dry and I will add more details with Pan. I hope he enjoyed this technique, and now I can't wait to see your illustrations 11. Bonus Project / A Fish Pond: So by now you know what resisting Nick is. I hope you enjoyed playing with masking fluid and other art supplies, and I wanted to finish this glass with another fun project. We are going to create illustrations similar to this month. It may look complicated, but trust me, it's really fun and easy to paint. And here's what he will need. Must conclude and container indigo for the background. Or you can use any blue color orange and the red oak you Buddha futures. And you can use any Pam for tooth big or something with pointed tip. Here's a quick tips on how to draw a fish. Start with two circles one big and one small condemned them by Caroline's. The bigger circle is for the head and smaller circle for the tail, and that was just add details. And here's another 12 circles on cover lines and details. I'm going to glue the pages, so then lies and fled. And now let's start drawing this cute little vicious for sketching you soft to be pencil and like very light marks. So it's very easy to remove them at the end. I usually leave all the marks about. It's just in case. If I said to erase them, so fill out both pages and let's add some musky food using any plan or toothpick, you can get a really fine details with masking food. Well, the layer off musky fluid is trying. I will prepare the paint for the background with background. I will use a lot of pigment, and if you using paint in tubes, you know it's very easy to mix it with border. And if you're using a handset, it's little bit harder. Like it's tricky to get so much trained with the brush, so just make sure you prepare in advance on your ballot. Musky flu is completely trying. I will start painting with orange, just gently adding the collar on the back of the fish. I'm trained that touch with the ages, where we applied basket flu because on these parts, I want to add dark blue. - Well , the first layer is still work. I will start getting ready when you paint wet on wet. You get this really nice are the fact that looks like explosion, so keep getting queen right in the middle. If you want to soften up some ages. Just touch with a clean brush and Jack let them around. I will keep getting some caller. Feel free to use any colors you've are quick and at yellow or creams and to create a more contrast. Also, keep in mind that watercolor painting always looks brighter while it's but when the paint dries, the colors are not as bright as before. So when the paint is dry, I will start painting the background. And here you can't see a great example. No, I will go around each fish. I will add a lot of pigment. So it's nice and dark. You can see that I have a lot of water on the page and I'm gonna leave all the battles because when they dry, they will give this really nice texture that will look like blooms. And on the water collar can give. This are effect. When the paint is completely dry, I will remove masculine. You can see it builds off really nice and small, and here you have it 12. Wrap Up: I hope this class will inspire you. And he will uncover the magic off this fun technique and create your own beautiful illustrations. It was such a joy showing the always cage books and sharing my tips with you. And now I would love to see your work. So please upload your projects and let you know if you have any questions.
