1. Introduction: So anyway, so hello, I'm, I kill, and I am an artist from India. I specialize in photorealistic colored pencil drawings. I've been making colored pencil drawings for almost three years now. My artistic journey was full of overwhelming experiences and lessons. To be frank, I made a lot of mistakes in my earliest days. But I believe that those mistakes have helped me to grow and improve at my odd, I'm here to share with you all the knowledge that I've gained through all my Hardy's team journey. I have, we weren't my best effort to bag all of it in our series of lectures, which I'll be providing to you through this class. This will be a very detailed tutorial for colored pencil drawing. We'll be learning some basic tips to advance and drawing techniques of making colored pencil portraits. It will be beneficial to both beginners and intermediate level of students. We will begin the class by looking at what a portrayed ease and what can be achieved by using the medium of colored pencils. Then I will show you what are the various materials that are required to make a realistic drawing. From there, we'll progress towards the process of sketching and we will learn some basic proportions to grow a human face. And finally, we will have a series of in-depth lectures in which I will teach you how to color the different portions of a human face to attain a realistic look m, we will end the class by completing a small project and discussing some essential tips to improve your drawing. I look forward to teach you all the lessons that I learned from my experience. So let's get started. 2. Portrait Drawing: What is Possible?: So what is a portrayed in case basically an artistic representation of a person in which the phase at its expressions is predominant. It is a way to diagnose personality and even the mood of the person. Now there are a few different ways to portray a person. Some common examples are for photography, sculpture, painting, drawings. I am even abstract drawings. For this class, we will be focusing on realistic colored pencil portraits, which means we will be using colored pencil to portray people which will look the most closer to the subject as possible. Now the goal is to make out od look, asked close to subject as possible so that can get the realistic look. The reason why I choose reality, what right growing all of the other conventional matters is that for me, this is the best method to portray a person. Also in this method, you will be able to more details to subject. Now, that can be just my opinion of it or the way that I have perceived it. Some of you may not exhibit that. May have a different opinion on that. But that's okay. Cause it's odd and new order. Let me give you a shorting side to my journey. I have been making drawings for almost six years now. And I think my experience of using the regular pencils have helped me. Why are you getting better at colored pencils? I started drawing with colored pencils just three years back. And here you say color scene drawing that I made in my first year of using color principles. And now let's look at it portrayed drawing that I made reasonably, That is a few months ago, the amount of improvement that I have made during these three years is clearly visible from these two drawings. For me, it took this long, two in blue only because I didn't leave enough time for that due to this pandemic and all these quarantined, these, I was finally able to give some time to Enbrel my heart. The amount of improvement you can make a Girard in the few months isn't just insane how speakers it personally in the last few 1s. Here you can see a drawing that I made. A purine is here, and this is a drawing that I'm currently working on. Now, I'll put on the screen some of the drawings that I made in these first few months of total economy. Now, what will it take for you to learn and grow like this? The only thing that you will need is a strong will to learn and some basic skills with the right mindset and the will to learn. What you can achieve in a short time is just insane. 3. Materials: Let's look at the materials that we will be using for this class. For sketching. We'll be using a set of normals, getting pencils. Just use the lightest one available to make the sketch. Moving onto coloring, we will be using febrile castle polychromy color pencils. These are high-quality artist grade color pencils. The paper that I will use will be smooth sofas in Bristol paper. Now Strathmore Bristol is a QC suggestion that I have for you. I prefer to make my drawings on A4 size paper. Some of the other important accessories that I will use include a pair of regular eraser and sharpen up. And for blending purposes, I will use a near but occasionally. 4. Sketching: So let's start by making a sketch for our drawing. Creating the skate is like the foundational step for your drawing. The final quality of the drawing that we are going to make will obviously depend upon that relabel the kids that you make. In the beginning, it is important that you put your best effort in creating a label skits always tried to make a very simple and neat sketch. If you have any prior experience in making drawings that are learned to draw or do you attended any class? Then you can go with free hand sketching. But if you're a beginner or someone trying to learn to grow, than I would suggest you to use a method that I have for you, which I personally call us ingredient. In this method, we select a French image and then divide it in loop, a certain number of goals and columns. Then we divide our workspace in the same number of rows and columns. The number of rows and columns. And then depending upon the scale of her drawing, as well as the size of your workspace. Use this to greet, invade us, your friends taker time to patiently and precisely filling each column of your drawing. Once you're done sketching, you'll marry more that greets only or drawing paper. Now, you are left with the fine sketch ready to be colored. 5. Human Face: Basic Proportions: Now let us see how to draw a male and female phase forms glands. We will look at some basic proportions of drawing a human face. Then I will demonstrate how some EC, modifications will affect the overall look of the phase. Let's start with the may face. Draw a circle. Try to make your construction lines are slight. Us possibly. Next, make a line through the center vertically and horizontally. Measure half the circle's diameter and read to the bottom to get the team. Now grow the TX and Joe line. Draw a line down the whole phrase vertically. Now, we are going to split the Nair phase half by drawing a horizontal line going through the very center. Split the bottom section in half, and then half again. Let's do the same thing with the top portion of the head. These lines are for the hair, eyes, nose, and lips. On your island, split your face into five equal sections. Taking the full width of the head into account. Draw your eyes on appropriate spaces. I'm just going to give this guy a thick eyebrows not to code and keep them closer to the eyes for a calm facial expression. Now, let's draw the North drawing line coming down from the net color. This gives us a nice set of boundaries to grow within. For medium length knows I'm gonna grow and knows a little bit higher than the nose line. You can play with the positioning to see how it affects the way your character looks. I will show you some examples later. For the mode, draw your boundary lines coming down from the sender of E tie. Directly below the nose. Draw a triangle that stretches down the line labeled lips. Place your cupid's bow. Effort is turns from the north. Below that, draw the opening of the mode while staying within the boundaries, defined the corners of the mode, and then connect them to the QC, which spoke to form the top link. Finally, define the opening of the mode by drawing a wavy line starting in the middle of the triangle. For the hair, started the line labeled hair and grow the size and the flavors. I like to draw the top part between these two lines. Males tend to how headlines that are very angular and well-defined. Let's give this guy a very cool and trendy hairstyle. Long and the top and shorter and decides between the line and the nose line, draw your two ears. Let's give him a thick neck line. You can make someone look skinnier by defining the ticks. Let's give him a sewage o line. We take DGBL chin. So that's my method of growing a basic male trees. Now I am going to have a little fun and change up some office V2s to make him look more masculine. I think male generally have less permanent lives. So let's remove a layer of graphite to make them mult release up till. If you want your character to look more chill and relaxed, make the eyes network so that you can see less of the iris. The more visible the iris is, the more alert and indents your character will look. I really like how he looks. Now. Let's draw a female face. Draw a circle with a line going through the sender vertically and horizontally. Measure half of the circle. And then to the boatman. This time, grow the tea higher. I usually like to drove females with narrow phases and small teams. Let's draw a line down the sendall vertically. Draw a horizontal line going through the sender of the ender had split the bottom section of the head in half and then in half again. And then do the same thing for the top portion. Again. Let's split the head into five equal sections along the line labeled ice. Remember to take full width of the head into account while you are doing. Let's be a pair of thin coat eyebrows. She doesn't look very happy. So I will have to go back and fix that later. On to the noss, draw your boundary lines again, coming down from the inner corner of each time. Let's do her a medium length knows by drawing it above the line level nose. Compared to the main phase that we have drawn. The lines used to draw her nose are much more smooth, no sharp angles, and it is also more narrower. For the mult. Grow your boundary lines coming from the sender of each eye and place your triangle directly below the nose, resting it on the line level. Lips. Start with the cupid's bow, row, the opening of the mult, the corners, and then connect everything together. For the years, grow them roughly between the eyes and the nose. Now moving on to the hair line remains how softer, less defined headlines. So let's draw a smooth line around the top portion of the head. The forehead, a rounded shape instead of a rectangular one. Grow the rest of her hair. We will deal a narrow neck. I'm gonna erase the construction lines. So we can swap out some facial features to make her look happier. You can keep these guidelines if you need it for reference. I just wanted to clean things up a little bit here. I think the reason she looks sad and angry is because her eyes are squeezed together a DNS. So let's open those eyes right up. That is so much better. She looks more relaxed. She actually looks pretty serious now, instead of angry. And all I did was change a single feature. You know what, in the beginning I thought out how to change her eyebrows to. But most, if not all of a sudden came from the eyes. This is a great exercise to learn about how each feature can affect a character's emotion, even the small sub two changes. Just adding some more details and shading. I made the Northbridge looks off by giving it some light shading. Now, that's how I draw the female trees. Now out engraved you to practise drawing different types of Freeze by varying these proportions a little bit. You can change how a person looks by making subtle changes like the ones that are shown. At the end of the day. Don't take yourself too seriously. Don't be afraid to venture off the part F1 into says you can do is to trace or a few photographs until you familiarize yourself with the proportions. 6. Before You Color: Now, before starting to color the sketch, it is very important that you get familiar with the colors that you are going to handle. An easy thing to do to get familiar with the different colors is to make a color chart. Now, I'll be putting on the screen the different colors that are used while coloring the different parts of the face. This will act as a gating factor too, especially if you're a beginner. And even if you are confident in selecting the colors, I would recommend you to come back to this section if you are having any doubt in selecting the colors. 7. Facial Features: For this class, we will be making a portrayed growing of Christine's toward, I have got a very fine picture of us at a friend's image. Now instead of making a single portrait drawing, I'll be drawing each of her facial features like eyes, lips, and his separately on a larger scale. First, we will how a bunch of short length video lectures in which I will use some easy tips for coloring different parts of the fields. In this class is I will also give some guidance on selecting the colors as well as the various techniques to be played. And later, towards the end of this class, we will how a CDs of real time drawing videos on the same subject, which will be uncovered and row full-page. There will not be any commentary or guidance during those lectures. You can simply wants them and learn by practicing it. So let's begin. 8. Eye: Portrait Drawing: Let's start with the eyes. Here I have the reference image of her eye disease, the final result that I have made. Now let's look at the process of making it. Firstly, make a very light-skinned or if you have any dark marks on the sketch which are produced while the process getting, Make sure to rub it off before you start coloring. Now, we have our final sketch relieved to be colored. I usually start by making the outline of the subject. Starting with the dark colors is ideal if the subject is very bright. While giving the acclaim, make sure that the pencils are properly sharpened. Now martin, details, as per your convenience, not every detail needs to be marked, but Mark enough of them to gain you well coloring. You must start coloring with whatever color you want. Personally, I prefer to start coloring the darkest colors. So here I'm starting with the darkest color, which is black. Odd multiple layers of colors or one another to get them better finish. As you can see in the reference image, the portion above her eyelids request a blend of black and brown tones. So I use the method of layering to blend in the two different colors. Keep adding successive layers of colors and you can look at a smooth transition between the colors. Now alternate between the necessary colors to attain the required skimmed on. The wider the range of colors that you use, the more realistic billiard growing look. You may also use a blender or simply any Herbert to make the transition look more smooth. Now, let's give the fine details to the inner portion of the i. Start off with marking the POP. Then our details at only using the appropriate kalos. Looking at the reference command, we can notice that he has an I, green and yellow shades. Image is hand-off closed to get the right blend. Now, start adding different layers of lead pill until your drawing matches with the reference image. Then continue drawing the other dielectric regions surrounding day more. While giving finely Tails, always make sure that your premises are properly sharpened. Now, use the black color to draw the eyelids. Draw them one-by-one. You may need to slow down a bit while going down. The important thing to take care while growing them is their length, width, and their shape. Once you have completed drawing the eyelids, start coloring the lower region of the I. Use appropriate close to blend the skin tones. Then Mark di leads on the lower region two. Now to make the growing look more real domain mark the white portions insane the reference. This will add to the contrast of the subject. Use a white ball pen to make these markings. And here we have our I drawn from scratch. This is the final result that I help produced. 9. Hair: Portrait Drawing: From my experience, hair is one of the easiest parts to be drawn in a human face. Start by making a solid outline using in darker brown color. Now start filling in the lighter colors by using vertical movements. Make sure that your pencils are properly sharpened. The thinner the lines you make, the more real will your hair look. Also, it will help in adding depth to the hair. Keep an eye on the reference image. Always take the shape and the curvature of the hair. Do not draw straight lines. Give your headlines. Appropriate carburetor. Now alternate between the dark and light Bronx to fill in the space. You may use mid tones like the vanity and read to give more definition to the hair. And other important color that will add up to the definition of your hair is black. So your friends carefully and darken the appropriate regions using black Kano. This will help in creating a good contrast in your drawing. And finally, use the dark dawn to free any left over wide regions. Also draw some loose hairs coming out from the side to make it look more real. And there we have our final result. 10. Lips: Portrait Drawing: Okay, now let's draw a pair of lips. Start by making the center line of the lips. Denmark, the upper and lower boundary. Now mark the darker regions inside the lips. Then continue with marking the various goods and retail on each limb. You may want to use a darker color to do this. Then slowly started coloring. I prefer to start coloring from my side. This way, I can easily multiple layers over one lambda2. Now alternate between the Nasserist skin tones to get the required blend. Make sure to use a good range of colors so that your pings and voice are distinctly receivable. Use a combination of penicillin movements and alternate between the gallows to get a result which matches with their friends. Hold your hands a little far from the tip of the pencil. In this position and minimum pressure is applied to the leds. Whereas when you hold your hands closer to the lead, here, higher pressure is applied to its tip. While earning software layers holder Pencil by a fair distance a away from its tip. And when you need to RD darker layer, hold your hands closer to the tip of the pencil. As you can see in the reference image, there are some wide regions on her lower lips. Make sure that you leave those regions are such while coloring. This can be achieved only by coloring with patients. Once you are done with it, then mark and darken up the necessary precautions. This will include the dividing middle line of the lip, the corners, that top and the bottom markings, etcetera. And finally, dark enough, the central line, once again, using reds, beings and other dark colors. You said dark brown or black to mark up the dark region two. And there we have our lips colored. 11. Ear: Coloured Pencil Drawing: Moving on to the ears. Start by marking the outline of the US, a mid pink. Don't leave the outline. Make sure to mark all the portions inside and outside the then generally start coloring with darker regions. It's ideal to start coloring from the top and progress towards the bottom. Once you have filled, all the dark regions, continue with the lighter colors. Blend them in portions between these dark regions. Now, use to fill in the lighter regions. You may use a lighter pink to fill the other leftover regions. I'm a little yellow tone in the skin to match with the reference. Finally, the outer boundary of the year using a darker yellow or brown. This will help you to project out. And we help our ear colored. 12. Nose: Color Pencil Drawing: The process of growing the nose is very similar to that of growing the ears will be using almost the same colors as the lust. The technique start by drawing an outline of the nodes using a pink color. Now mark the dark portions using a darker brown. Then start coloring from the darker region. In this case, I would like to start from the nostril. Slowly, add more colors and layer them on one nanometer. Now, continue with blending the skin colors on the upper region of the nose. Again, we are using same colors that we used while growing years. This time we are going to mark the outline. We take gray color rather than a dark brown. You may want to add a little feather to the boundary of the north. Since it has to be blended in with the remaining portion of the face. Use a pink or an ivory to serve this purpose. Finally, using an alert tone to add a matching shade. And we how our nose ready. 13. Tips and Project: Now let's look at some easy tips which will help you get better at portrayed drawing.
