1. Introduction: Wouldn't it be great to discover how to quickly draw and paint the beautiful composition you see here. Welcome to this class. In this class, I'm going to show you my quick sketch method on how to quickly draw some flowers in procreate without spending hours. Let's quickly building them from the ground up into this composition. And not only drawing, as you see, we're going to add a splash of color to it too. Now of course, what you see is the end result. We're not gonna start with this, we're going to start easy. So let me hide all these layers. Well, it start with a simple blank canvas. Want to show you how to create a new canvas. And from there, I'm going to show you how to sketch. Once we are done with the sketch, I'm going to show you how to ink. Then of course, I'm going to show you how to hatch these things, how to add some shadow at some little bit more details. We're going to talk a little bit about light and how that works on the painting and drawing. And once we've done that, we've got this beautiful drawing. And then we're gonna just add a splash of color. And I'm going to just show you how to add color and how to create a beautiful background. What do you need for this? You need your iPad, you need an Apple pencil would be handy. And you can unmute procreative course. And I'm just going to use the basic brushes so you don't need to download, add anything. You just can jump in and start this right away. Attached to this class you'll find some photographs of the puppies to quickly get you going. And once you've come through this class, it will be, of course, a great idea. It has to go outside and just draw a beautiful composition yourself. Alright, well, I think that's all there is to say about this. But start drawing. 2. Using the Downloads: After filming the whole class and the introduction, I realize you probably don't have the same color swatches. I do. So before we start with the lessons, let me demonstrate how to get the color swatch into Procreate so that you have actually the same color swatch is ideal for that. You need to go to your browsers. In this case, I'm using Safari on your iPad. So we're going to start Safari. And on Safari you need to go to Skillshare and to this class. Now, when you arrive on Skillshare At this class, you're going to see here some tabs. Want to get this out of the way. And you see about the reservoir to class and so on. You need this one, project and resources. Now there you see two resources. The first resource is the book of reference. I would suggest downloading that one on a different device so that you can actually look at the references while copying them. The second resource you see is the basic color swatches, and we need to get it into procreate and that is very easy. What we're gonna do is you're going to tap on it. Now it asks you to, if you want to download this, this, you're going to say Yes, of course I want to download this, so I'm tapping download. Now, it's downloading here. Here you see a blue arrow with that circle around it. You're going to tap that one. And there is the basic color swatch now it's not in Procreate yet. So what you can do, you tap on it and it saves it to your iPad. Now narratives see you gotta look for it, find it. It's in your files on the iPads. And what do you do next? You just simply tap on it and now it's just importing it into Procreate. Now you can't use it yet in procreate, we have to set it as a default color swatch. So what we're gonna do, we're going to tap on the column. And now you see whatever color swatch you use last, you can tap on pallets and you have to scroll all the way down. So if you have a lot of things and you have to scroll, if you have just a few, you see it right away. And there you see basic colors and you just tap on the fault, go back to the disk and there is the color swatch you need for the colors I'm using. Alright, that's it. Now we've downloaded the color swatches. You've know about the reference book. So now we can start, have fun with the lessons. 3. Sketching the Poppies: Let's start. I've already opened Procreate and we're going to just create a new document first. And what we're gonna do, if you create a new document, you press on the plus here. And we're gonna do a new Canvas and we're going to create a square canvas. And the dimension of the canvas will be 2500. So I'm typing that in here by 2500. Then we're going to set a square canvas. I'm keeping the DPI or dots per inch on 300 so that you can print it and you get a number of maximum layers depending on your iPad. But we're not going to use many layers, so shouldn't be a problem to call profile. I'm just going to keep at SRGB, the first one and the rest you can set whatever you can do the time-lapse settings on. Then it's going to record. Now mine will record and good-quality. And to Canvas properties. You can do a background color. We're not gonna do that background. We don't want to have it hidden. So that's our custom canvas, 2500 by 2500. And then we're going to say Create. And it creates a new square canvas for us. Right? Now, we're going to draw a puppy. So what we're going to need is of course that flower and I've got that flower on a face here. And I'm going to just pick the first one. We're going to do a couple. But we're going to start with one of course, and I'm going to get that out of that thing. And then we're going to put it here. Now. There it is, here and the camera desk, the first one. And it was going to put it down carefully flat. And I'm just going to leave it like this. And what we're gonna do a quick sketching, we're going to quickly sketch this. Now, if you starting out, then of course you may not even know how to sketch. So let's go into that. And we've created our canvas. We have one layer if all goes well and we're going to pick a brush first. What we're gonna do, we're gonna pick sketching and we're just going to need a pencil. Now the six PHP, we're going to pick the HB pencil from the regular set of brushes that come with Procreate HB pencil. And for the color, I've got a color palette here. And I'm just using the basic colors and I'm going to pick a grayish color. So it sets this on yellow and then picks a grayish color. I don't want to have a total black. You could pick this one too. And the blue, this wonderful R, Let's pick this one and the blue him. Right? Now we're going to look at the flower first and we're going to see two things about this flower. This is a very simple one. Of course we're going to start simple. It has a flower, it has a stock. Now the stock would be pretty easy. That's one long big stock. And what we're gonna do first we're going to sketch it, and then once we sketch it, we're going to ink it. So the first thing I need to determine how big will this flower be and will I keep it in this position while like this position? So let's say that this is what we're going to look first, we're going to look at the size. And if you imagine around your flower a rectangle or square, in this case it's a rectangle. And what you're gonna do, the first step is to draw that rectangle, look at the angles you have. So this would be a straight line, this would be a second straight line. And the angle, the flower is in an angle. So this line we're going to use is, we're going to line that up and we're going to keep about the angle. It is quick sketching so we don't need to do it completely accurate. It's more about the idea. Now the one thing I need to notice when you look at the camera, you see slightly different thing than IC, but I'm going to try do it on the camera. So we're going to start with that square. Let's see. Yeah, this is on pretty big icy 100 percent that pencil, this is on 100 percent. Who? And what I'm gonna do is first, I'm going to make the rectangle in which I wanted keep my flower and I want to keep my flour in there. And I'm noting of course that pretty much in the middle, we're going to do that stock and that stock just goes like that and we're sketching it in now, what you could do also, you could just take a line, draw it, hold it, and then go for that line and put it there. That would work pretty well too. And with the square you could do to, sorry, with the rectangle, you could do the same for S, draw a line, hold it, and draw it like this. And draw all that. And take it like that. That would work pretty much two. And then you put that stock under there. But I prefer to sketch then I can correct my dimensions while I'm going. And it will look more lifelike in the end like this. But for the first setup, you could do it like that. If you make a mistake, there's the Undo or you do two fingers and you press and everything disappears or you just use that Undo button. Right? We'll keep it like this. Now this is my main flower. The way the flower looks like. Now what I see is I see 123 petals and I can't just draw them in. And I'm going to start with this one here. And I'm going to just note what I'm seeing is a curved edge. And I'm going to put that in, start their curve it up. And to that other point. That's my imaginary thing, but it's two, it's not going if I draw a square around, sorry, a rectangle around here, it wouldn't be all the way up. So I'm going to stop it right there and then bring that flower up to the top like that. Now that would be the first petal. And I'm going to look at the petal and we'll see the petal curves back again. Has on the top here a little bit of a curve. And then it curves back pretty much to the middle again. So I'm going to connect it like that. And that will be my first petal of my pop. The second one is larger. And it would go, Let's say you draw around a square here. It goes till about there I wanted to go. And it makes a nice, lovely curve. And I'm going to move the flower. Look at from the top a little bit so that I see pretty much the same as UC. And it goes from that top right there. And then curves back in. And we're gonna do to swan like that. And then we've got to do the middle one. I moved that kind of move that around a little bit. And the middle one is would be in there. Now, that would be the first one. That would be the easy way to do this. And now we're gonna do that stock a little bit thicker because it's not that fin. So I'm just drawing in a second line. And that will be my first sketch. Now noting some folds and things like that, but you can draw them in to make it look a bit nicer image, just roughly sketching it. And there you go. Now that will be our first poppy. There you go. Alright. And that will be sufficient. Now, the next step we're going to do, since this is pretty okay, what we're gonna do is little bit on the bottom, make that a beak. It black, a black like that. To get that idea a bit more. Right? Now, the flower is pressed a bit because it's laying without water, it's pressing down, so it's getting a bit of a different shapes. So we could do this a bit wider to, but I'm going to leave it now. And what we're gonna do is the next thing we'll do. Just show you down here. Now here's a leaf and we're gonna do the leaf to down here. So we're leaving this pretty long and we're gonna do a leaf, and we have we can pick the lease wherever we want. And if you're in nature sketching tool, you just pick the leaves. You like, I'm going to pick this leaf that comes out here. And what I'm going to say, well, I'm going to put it on this line. This is about the shape. It curves up a little bit back. And then I'm just going to quickly draw that in that set. And I'm noting all real jacket lines, but from my angle, it's hard to see anywhere from yours too small. That would be the first one. The second one is nice like this, or put it up a bit higher. And we're gonna go do that middle line first around that shape. And then we're going to add those. Check at lines a little bit. So we're doing here some jacket lines, That's good. Now these poppies have, this one's no good because this one is not on water. It's not straight, but normally this one is a straight one. We could put it here, but for the composition wise, I would say put that starting poppy right there and then add that shape. And with that middle line. And that's it. That is typical. You know, you have your typical poppy that would be for the sketch and that is just rough, nice. And if you're happy with it, you could do this leaf just slightly taller, right? And we're just sketching what we're seeing with disregarding everything, light and shadows, everything callers were disregarding, were only sketching the rough shape what we're seeing. Alright, I'm gonna draw this down again and what we're gonna do, we're gonna do a second one and I'm going to turn it like that so that we get that one big leaf and I have to hold it. And what we're gonna do, we're gonna do a second poppy behind it. Now that would be about the same rectangle there, but we're going to play a little bit with the shape. So we get a little bit of a composition. And this will be my shape. And I'm going to just draw in that flower now in the middle would be that stock again. And I'm going to bring that down like that now it's not going through. So I have to remember that when I'm inking this, it's not going through. And that is one big leaf applying that. Get that bottom down. Now if this one is not so strong blade, but with most poppies, it is. And it has some waived edges like that. There you go. And then it has some of these lines. And that would be the quick second puppy behind it. And now you have an interesting composition. Right? Does this need a leaf? Let's see. We've got that leaf here. Yes, why not? Let's do a leaf that goes right behind it and we know how this leaf goes. So we'll just quickly sketching that in, right, and now we get an interesting composition. Okay, that would be our first step for this property. Now, I'm going to put this one on water again. And this would be the easy composition. Now, what I could do next is we could ink this, but we're not gonna do that. We're going to keep this. And in the next lesson, we're just going to start again, but do the poppy from a different position. All right, so this would be the first one. Now, don't throw it away. Go back to your gallery and then it saves it. And there is my puppy right there. You can name it if you want to name it. Just press on untitled artwork. And you can give it a name. Poppies one. And we're going to call it very innovative, very clever name, isn't it? All right, That will be it for this lesson. Okay, So your turn to sketch these guys. If you have life poppies, use them. If you don't have puppies, then photographs are supplied with this lesson and otherwise, look up on the internet or a book, plenty of poppies around. All right, that would be the first step into quick sketching these poppies. We're going to continue with this later on, but first we're gonna do something else. All right, so I'll see you in the next lesson. 4. Sketching different Angles: Welcome to the next lesson. We've done this one, but we're going to create a new one. And what we're gonna do is we're going to take that same document. And if all is well, right on the bottom of all your canvases, whatever you've created that this new Canvas, and I want to edit this. So I'm going to slide this with my pen or with your finger. You can do that pen. I'm going to say Edit. I'm going to give this a name. And I'm going to call this quick sketch, quick sketch square, because it's a square and we're going to only use squares for this one. All right, so now I have a new Canvas called quick sketch square. And I'm going to just use that hidden press on it and it's going to create a new one. All right, We're gonna do basically the same thing again, but we're going to do it a little bit differently. I'm going to get the same poppy again. I'm going to put it like this, but I'm going to hold it like this now we're going to do it. You see it from the top and we're going to draw it from the top to. And when I look at the top, now, this is not circles more of a square. What I'm gonna do is I'll cut that same pencil stem. And I'm going to just put this one up straight to make it yourself easy. We're going to just draw, first of all, a bit of a square. This is where I want my poppy to stay. This will be my borders. And right away I'm going to add that stock pretty much in the middle, straight k. Now, I see a lot of things in here and now I need to determine what am I gonna do. The first thing I need to determine, I want to have the heart in the middle. So what I'm gonna do is I'm going to draw two lines from the points to the point. Now the other way to do this, I'm sketching this in quickly. The other way to do it is just to take your pen, keep the pressure on it and draw something similar to a square. And now hold it. And it says polyline created right there. And I'm going to say Edit Shape. And I'm going to say no, I want to have a rectangle, a polyline, what do you want? And then it takes a nice mix, a nice rectangle of it. And when I'm done, I'll just press on my square and Eric goes, I've got a rectangle. And now I can take, start this line, hold it, draw it right there. Take this line, hold it toward like there. And I would get the same, pretty much the same effect. Now I'm going to leave this on here. So now I've got this middle, I've determined this is the middle. Now what's in the middle is a bit of a if the heart, but I'm not going to draw the heart yet. I'm going to add a new layer. So I'm pressing the layer button here. I'm pressing the Plus and on top of the layer I've been drawing, I'm going to draw another layer. And on that layer I'm actually going to draw my flower so that later on I can hide the other layer. So in there, there's a little bit of a circle. And I'm going to draw that in. There you go. And it has all these lines going towards the middle. That's it. And then it has some going from it. And those, I'm going to put some little circles on the end. Alright, that's the heart. Now, pretty much a bit big, but don't, we'll see it really good. So now I'm going to draw this pretty much. Teach flowers here, these petals, sorry, not flowers here. And what we're gonna do is I'm going to say, Okay, it is curving up, but this one goes further away. So I'm gonna do it. Let's say I'm going to meet that middle again. And I'm gonna do a middle part here too. So I'm going to, oh, sorry. Now made a mistake. Get rid of those. We're going to add some more help lines on this one. And I'm going to add some help lines that determined the top middle and the site middle Stu. All right. Now if I've done that, and now I'm going to say, Okay, I don't want to go with this petal all the way to the top but like that and another one like that around there. And I'm going to just draw that shape that comes from here. And the same shape I'm pretty much draw there too. And then it curves. Around there. And as you can see, I'm not adding the lines yet, but I'm quickly roughly sketching that in. Now we have behind there we have this petal that goes all the way till the end and it starts from the middle. You can't see it from the back, from the middle, goes all the way there. So I'm imagining it goes right there from the middle and it comes somewhere here. And I'm drawing it in. And I'm doing the same Right there two. And this one, I'm going to do exactly the same. And then I got that nice shape. All right, and that will be the rough shape. Now let me refine that a little bit. At some of these lines in it that you see all these lines, they're all, it's not really like a false, right? And now I can't add. And as you can see, I'm not doing all of these little lines. And now let's add some false on top too. And let us do that on the site. It's pretty straight little bit here too. And then we get that puppy shape that we see. Now. That's it. Okay, and others, good. Alright, but that's about what it is. Of course we've done this now you know how to draw it from the front. That is slightly boring, isn't it? So what I'm gonna do is with this one, you can start a new document or just do some new layers. I'm going to start a new document. And what I really want is for this much nicer is to look at it from an angle like this. Now that's going to be a bit tricky. So I'm gonna draw a rectangle and having it not straight. We could do it straight. And I'm seeing it like this, so that looks a lot better than the previous one. And what I'm gonna do, I'm gonna just draw here. And I'm going to say, all right, I know this one stays in the middle. Let's curve it slightly, right? This is going to be my new property, but we're gonna do it a bit more harder. We're gonna say, we're gonna draw it from this angle. And now this wouldn't be totally in the middle. So where it would be, it would be around here. And I'm just going to draw in what I'm seeing. Bit of that shape and around it. That's hard. But it's cut off from my few by this petal, so I'm don't have to go all the way. Then I'm gonna get me this shape that goes in front of it. I'm going to turn it the right way so that we still see that will be around here. And that would be that petal. And that goes to 0 here. But the other petals go in front of it. But sent was still sketching. We can go over the lines were doing. So that is more or less what we're seeing. And I'll put it like this again. And we're gonna do the big petal behind it. Now I kinda check, see if I can get your angle a bit. And I'm just sketching in their pet or roughly. And now we've got the side petals. And this petal goes pretty much around like that. And it has a bit of a fold. So I'm going to draw in that fault. This is going to be the fault I'm seeing here. We're gonna do the other petal that goes not all the way up like this one, that goes really behind it. This one doesn't. So I'm going to draw that there. And I've gotta go a little bit outside of my shape. Troll this straight line here towards me. And now let's connect and that one goes like this. And what we're gonna do is it's gonna go like this, the falls. And we're going to put them like that. Now that looks good. And now I add a darker shape. Refine this a little bit. That would be from the middle, sorry, from the from an angle. So this is my puppy from an angle. And we're going to add some of these lines in here. Rights. And let's go with this one and have turned. Now, basically this fault isn't really there, but to make it look really good, I've added that a little bit so that this flower gets a bit of a shape that is nice. And notice I want to correct a little bit. I'm going to just pick an eraser. My eraser is just a heart blend from airbrushing. I use that. All right, and I've erased that a little bit because I do want to shape a bit different, right? Like that status, much nicer. Now discourse under it. This one goes in front of the petal, right? Really like that. And this one goes in front of that portal. And we've got to bring in a few of those folds now this one isn't straight either, so I'm bringing in a few of those folds and add some of the lines now, that would be my Definitely my puppy quick sketch. So I've cut this one and this is a really nice big one. And what I'm gonna do is I'm going to add that right here. And this one is bigger than the previous one. So we need that middle line. And this one is a bit hairy of course, because it is we're up close and that counts for our stock to I'm just going to add some lines, right? And that's it. Now, if I would hide my previous layer or I've done my previous layer, That's not good at it. Now, I've got everything on the layer. If all is well, you don't have everything on a layer. You can remove those boxes. But since we're going to ink it, it's not a big problem if everything is on one layer and also five with this. All right, That's it for this lesson. So we've done two. We've done one from the front just to show you how to draw a flower quickly from the front. But for a puppy, that is not the nice way to do a puppy, the nicer way to do it like we've done here and keep in mind, it's a quick sketch so we're not going to go all the way detailed and add all the little details and make it exactly a replica of what we see. We're just going to interpret what we see now. That would be it for this lesson. Next lesson, we're going to ink. 5. Inking the Poppies: Welcome back. In this lesson we're going to ink. Let me put this poor guy on water so that we will save it for now. And what I'm gonna do, I'm gonna go back to that first flower. So we've got a couple now, we're going to disregard that one. We've got two nice ones. And what we could do first with this one, Let's go to the nice one, this one. And I want to add that to our composition because this is a really nice one. What I'm gonna do is you need the layer on which you have drawn. And probably you have to draw two layers with one with the help lines and one with the flower. You pick the layer on which is the flower. You go to this wrench, you hit that range and you just say an ad copy. And I'm copying now this layer, and it keeps this layer in memory. And when we go to the first one we made, I'm just going to say here, paste. Yeah, on the same range, paste. And it's going to add this flower. Now this is a mess because I don't see what happens. So what I'm gonna do, I'm gonna outside of this box that appears. And we're going to move this flower and we're going to put it up there. Now this flower is a lot bigger than the other ones. So what I'm gonna do on one of these ends, and we're going to put my pen on it. And then we're going to move it down like this until it has about the same size as these slightly bigger. All right, that's dead. Now, if I put it like this, this is going to be one big, cluttered mess, isn't it? So what we'll do on the here, you see some extra tools and you see here flip horizontal one we're going to do is I'm going to flip this flower. And look ten, I can put it right there and it isn't in the way. But we want to do is to make it look nice. I'm going to put it in front of the other flower. And I might need to rotate it slightly like this to get the angles right. Put it on the hair. Now this would be my composition and I'm going to hit that, press that arrow, and there is my new one. I've got a new layer with C, That's the new inserted one. Alright, now I got to fill it in with the rest. So on this layer and still my pencil should be selected. I'm just going to extend these stocks a little bit, and there you go. Now, to make it myself easy, what I could do, I could erase a little bit away from that so that I'm not getting confused. And I'm going to do that right away. Go back to this layer, pick my eraser, and the size of God could go a bit smaller by 3%. It's still that airbrush, hard blend. And I'm going to just erase everything that is behind this petal. I'm going to erase now, look at that. Now we have a beautiful flower composition. Okay? I want to merge these two layers. So I'm going to that inserted image. I'm going to select that. I'm going to press on it. Now I'm getting a new layer. So I have it selected, press on it. There's a new layer and then you see Merge Down. Merge down means it's going to merge with the layer below it. And there you go. Yeah, it's merging them into one layer because I just want one layer. And now I'm going to add a new layer on top of it. And that will be my sketch here. I'm gonna do my quick sketch in ink. Now what I'm gonna do first with this layer, it's quite strong, so I'm pressing on the end, and that is, brings up a menu with all kinds of layer effects. But I need this one. Opacity. Mr. slight this opacity back till about 35, 40% like this. And now see, now I can use this as a sketch and sketch over it. And that's what we're gonna do. On the new layer. We're going to get a different pen. And I'm going to go to inking. There you go. And I want this pen, ink bleeds. That is a very nice pen. All right, so what we'll do, I have this and now I'm going to quick sketch this. I'm going to put a sketch on top of it. That will be my final sketch. Now let's see, I've got this on 7%. I'm just going to draw a line. I think 7% is pretty good. I've gotta get rid of this. So let's do this. The opacity at a 100 percent, That's move it up. Let's go for 8%. And we're going to just trace these, but I'm not going to trace literally like this. Now, I'm going to sketch trace while sketching and you could even keep an eye on the flower. I've still got them in my sight. So let's see, we're going to start with this one. Start with, let's start with this one. I'm zooming in on purpose so that you can see. And let me do that. I might want to have that still a little bit more Flickr. I'm going to go for 10 percent. Right. I've got my brush on 10 percent, so I picked that ink bleed from the inking library and put it on 10 percent, the opacity is a 100 percent. I'm going to use a black color. So instead of that little grayish color, I'm not going to pick from the basic really black color. And what I'm gonna do, I'm gonna just trace this as set and I'm going to sketch it. And with a sketch motion, what you can see, I'm making these kinds of motions. And I want goes there. Now this one goes slightly in front of it. And I'm making this sketching motion. And because they use a certain pen, this looks like as if it is real ink. Now with this, this petal behind it, I know it has a little bit of a curve, so I'm gonna just add that to it like that. See, and now it looks right away a lot more interesting than the previous sketch. And I'm going to put some of these folds in it. Play a little bit with them. So not straight, this one straight, but add a little angle here too. And I want that one. And there you go. Now one, I get this one connected. I'm going to draw that in black right away. Because if you look on the bottom of a poppy, then you always see a little bit of that black. And we're going to get these petals, so the black of the petal, this is one of the patterns you see. If I have that under this angle, then you'll always see a little bit of that black. And I'm going to put that in right away, just a little bit of that black, this one goes there. And now if I hide that layer under it, look how nice that looks, C. But we're going to continue. I'm not going to do the stop share. I'm going to just go to the next flower and that will be this one. Now, I'm going to start with the obvious petals, that is this one and these ones are in front of this. So I want to at least draw this line in. And I've changed it a little bit, so it's now going on the different side. There's the first petal and day go and I'm going to do that fold in that other petal, make their fault a bit more interesting. And then later on we're going to continue it. Now I'm going to draw this petal and I'm going to keep those as you see on the petal, those little curves in it. And if I pick a bigger ones, he, you see them clearly like that. So it's nice to have the loose ones. And I'm going to just add a little bit. And that creates that typical really poppy style that, that flower has. Alright, that's dead. Now I need to do that heart and I'm going to move it a little bit down. And we're going to just add some of these things to it. And there you go. Now this is going to look very nice. The next one I'm going to do this one because that petal was in front of it. And again, I'm gonna do those typical faults in it. There you go. Now I'm going to need a big one, and I'm not gonna do that straight As here. I'm going to add just a couple of folds. And I'm gonna do that with this one too. Right? And now we're, that looks, if I get rid of that one, see, that looks very nice. Sea might've missed a little bit of spot there. I'm going to do that. All right? And now we're going to add those fold lines. Play a little bit with them. Not all straight. Bit curved. Birkbeck, this one a bit curved, this one straight, this one pretty much straight. And there is hope she would look on the back. That would be some hair to some just going to add a couple like that. This ends of it. I need to go black again because it is the end of the flower to get that typical poppy few. Alright, and now that will be the second one. The last one. Now I've curved that one pretty much so I'm just going to follow those curves. And as you can see, I'm sketching really rough. I'm, I don't want nice connected lines. I just want to have rough lines because this is a quick sketch. And this one goes here. And this one goes up like that. See, and now I need to, really, well, that's an angle where I'm not going to draw. I'm going to add in that black right away. And in this one we're gonna do it a bit stronger than the other ones. This is only one pet off from the site. So we would basically see this, right? And now we've cut the flowers in, get some of these curves. And as you can see, even with those curves, I'm playing a little bit to get a really lifelike, interesting flower, Degas. Now, that looks good, doesn't it? Next one. Let's go for this guy here. Alright, and we're going to add some of those as we've seen on it. Let me see if I can find it. There it is. It has all these hairs on it. So we want to add on the outside some of these hairs and on the inside, just some spots. So not house only on the outside. Oh, let's do this one right away to rights. And it had a nice curve. We're doing again. Some of the hairs on the outside just random and some spots on there. Okay. Now let's do this one. Let's start with this one. I'm going to do one side First of all things. And that goes there. Then I'm going to add a second one and I'm going to make sure this one doesn't go to Fick. There you go. And I'm going to randomly add some of those hairs to it to give it the id, the ego. And now I can add this one with that beautiful curve and let it connects right there. And do these two. Okay? And there you go. Now the next one will be this one. I'm going to do one of these lines first because I see at the bottom this definitely is too thick, so I'm going to make it a bit thinner. That's the nice thing if you trace, right? You could, you can change whatever you want to change. There you go at some of these lines on it to give it data real puppy feel. Okay, and there you go. Now does this leave behind it? And we're going to roughly sketch that in. There you go. My finger does one of the leaves. So you know, it has all these ones now the one we did had a younger one. We can add some bigger rights like that and do that. Oh, that goes wrong. I'm going to run away and need to go this way. The ego, now, look, that looks nice and do that middle line into two. They are. And let's do this one here. Let's do some bit of jagged lines so that you still get the idea. Let's see, we're having this one. We need to connect this one dough. We're going here and that sits a bit thicker. Bit loose. There you go. Now we have in this one, let's do a single line first that goes right behind there. Let's do the second line now two and goes right there. Keep in mind that you don't go through the other ones. And there we go. Now we have this leaf. And I'm just adding some edges to it and connect that here. Right now my basic quick sketch is done. And you get the idea what to do. Now I've think I've did somehow spots outside. So I'm going to river those spots and look it up and look at it. That would be my poppy quick sketch, but we're not done yet. What we're gonna do, we're going to add a layer and I'm going to add a layer below it. So on top of our sketch. And what we're gonna do in the next lesson. With this layer, we're going to add a little bit of light and shadow because this is just a nice quick sketch, but we can do this a lot nicer. All right, For the next lesson, I'm going to add some quick light and shadow to it gives the idea of sunlight impression. I'll see you in that lesson. 6. Shading the Poppies: Welcome to the next lesson. All right, Here's my quick sketch of these poppies and it's really nice. It's a bit plane like this, so I want to add some shadow to it. And when I'm adding shadow it also right away gives the impression of light. So I've added a new layer under the one I've sketched. I'm keeping that same brush. So the brushes, the ink bleed from the inking section. But what I'm gonna do is I'm going to lower it a little bit in size, so I've got it on 10 percent now I'm going to 7%. It's a bit smaller. And what I want to do is I want to simulate some lights. So I got to pick an area, an area, and direction from where the light comes from. The easiest thing is to pick one of the corners. Either pick this one or pick that one. Let me see. I'm going to pick this one that would bring the most out of this flower. And that means if I pick this side, that means that light would shine and I have to add a little bit of a layer to demonstrate it. So let's say the sun would shine, it would just shine in this direction. On my flowers. These are bad arrows, Benjamin. Right? Let's make them a bit better. And I would shine. So that would mean that the light would basically hit all these tops here. They're there, but they're also a bit around this edge. And here. And my light would hit a bit there with their hand on this petal. And here on the leaves. It would hit mostly on this side and so on and so on. But I can't draw analyte, so I have to draw in shadow. So what I would need to do is I would need to darken this side where the light can't reach or at least where less light reaches. So would get a bit of that. Now that is fairly rough and that love doesn't look nice. But that's the basic idea. And with the leaf will just shake the end a little bit in. Under here. They go. With the stocks. What I would do, I would fix them a little bit on one side to simulate light. So that's the basic idea of light and shadow, where the light hits, we go, do nothing but where the shade is where the light can't reach or reaches harder, we're going to add some shade. And what we're gonna do if the shape is, let's say we have this petal. Alright, the light would hit right there and we can not going to draw that in. Of course we're going to do that. Keep that in mind. I'm going to shade and I'm going to just use hatching. Hatching is just quick lines like this. And keep them under a certain angle. You can do them on the this angle double edge. This is called crosshatching. Why there would be the least light. I might actually strengthen this a bit or do the cross hatching. And where there is little light, I'll leave less hedging. Well, that's a bit the basic idea of hedging. All right, let me move that layer, not move, hide that layer. I want to zoom in now, the easy one. What I'm gonna do is I'm going to start with this guy. Now, the light comes from this corner, so from the corner of the iPad like that. So basically decides would be in shade, so I'm going to just hatched it in like that. So but also a bit of this side would be in shade and I'm going to just go the opposite angle. And do that. Now that you can add, that already improves my flower right away. What I will do is on the edges, I would go cross hatch. So not the same angle but the opposite angle. To strengthen that a little bit and you get this idea really quickly. The same we do here. Pick an angle. I'm going for this one, the opposite angle on purpose, bit like that. And now I'm going to cross hatch this. There you go. And that would be, that will be it. On the leaf. The leaf is easy. Goes here. So I would cross hatch only ones. No, sorry, hatch only one side. And as you can see, I'm not even worried if these lines are all the same and all good. I'm just doing it like that. Now if this one, I'm going to hedge around the edge. And with the one under it, I'm going to hedge this one around the edge to, but when I meet this part here, it would add some shadow. So I'm going to do it like this. And what I will do here where the shadow hits would cross hatch that a little bit. And this, I will just do like a dat and thick and this just a little bit. There you go. All right, that would be the simple, basic way to shade. Now this is not totally nice, so let's add a little bit around there. Now with the stocks. I'm just going to thicken one side. Now if you have a big side, you could, sorry, a big stock you could indeed had shown it. But since these are pretty thin, I'm just going to do the side that is opposite from the light. I'm gonna just thicken that a little bit. And I'm going to do now with all of these here too. Right? Let's see this one too. The big one here. And down there, I would go black here too. Right? Because that would be pretty much in shade. Now, that would be that part. Now, this is really nice. I'm going to add a new layer. You don't have to do that, but I'm gonna do that for the flowers in case something goes wrong, I don't have to erase, then I can just clear the layer up. Yeah, and I'll show you that. Let's say I'm going to do this and now I don't like this on this new layer. I'm going to the layers. I can tap the layer and you see all the options and there is a clear, if you hit that clear button, I'll show you that on the layer 10, it clears everything in one go, saves you some time. All right, so I've cut that new layer. I'm zooming in. And let's see. This petal. Light comes and most of this petal or be in shade, I'm going to not shade that. So I'm going to start at the bottom, pick an angle. And I'm going to go smaller. If I go smaller, it makes it easier to hatch, then the lines don't have to be that long. And I'm going to hatch it like that. Now in here, this one would not be in shade, the rest would basically be in shade. Conoco, the opposite angle from that one. And I'm going to do it like that, but around this edge on one some shades. Now this one I want to cross hatch because there's a lot of shade in there. So I roughly crosshatch Taiwan, The ego meet out if they do that, you could go one site if you wanted to. Now let's see, this flower here will pick up shade from this one. And I'm going to just shade it around the edge. That's all I'm gonna do if this one might go up just a little higher, right? Now, this flower here, the petal. Now this would be because it's folder to watch me. This would be pretty much all the way hatched in that counts the same for this one because it's basically blocking the light or light comes from the other side a little bit. So there you go. And since that is the dark parts, I'm going to go cross hatching with these right away. As you can see again, quite roughly. Now, there you go. Quite nice, isn't it? This one, let's pretend it's catching some light here, but not on the other side. And I'm just going to hatch that like this. And with this one we're gonna say it sketching lot of light. I'm not going to worry about the edge. I'm going to say, I'm going to start around here with my shadow, right? And then we're gonna do the same here to this one. I want some shadow right in there. And the last one, Let's see, some shadow on the bottom. I'm going to skip that part. Right? And now I'm gonna just really dark and that part, there you go. Now we've got this. That would be pretty much it. So what you could also do, this leaf I got to do. You could go with the shape of the flower. Hatch that, that would make it perhaps slightly more complicated. All right, one thing left to do. Now around here, this casting a shadow. So I want to thicken these lines just a little bit. Wanna do the same here to right there. Pit there too, right here. Around there would be some shadow and that's pretty much it. All right. That would be my quick sketch of the puppies. Now, if you were to do this on your own, discos a lot quicker than what was spending now because I'm explaining every step I'm doing and then we don't have to explain every step we're doing. All right, we're going to leave it for this now, but I want to add some color to it to not gonna do it in this lesson. I'm going to do that in the next lesson. So I've cut my puppies ready, I could leave it like this. This would be great. I could sign it and say, great composition, great quick sketch of some poppies, really looking nice, but splash of color is nice to him. Let's go for that in the next lesson. 7. Adding a Splash of Color: All right, welcome back. Splash of color would be nice too, I said in the previous lesson. So let's do that right. Now. For color, what we're going to do, we're going to still use the standard library that comes with Procreate. And let me see. I'm going to go for painting and I want to do some watercolor on this. So for painting, I have a lot of brushes here. I'm scrolling all the way down and there I find a watercolor brush. Yes, just what I need. Now, what I'm gonna do, I'm going to paint under my ink. So I need to make sure that bottom layer, this one, I'm having my new layer under the bottom, bottom layer. So I'm selecting the layer that I want to go below. Know that I want to go above and I press the plus and then it adds a new layer like that. And now I have too many layers. If you want to move a layer or deleted layer, you can slide it and there is a delete button, then the labor is gone and you lose everything that is on a two. Alright, an empty layer, I'm going to paint. Now poppies are red. So what we're gonna do, we're gonna pick from the standard library a red color. What a surprise. So I have a new layer. This one is set on 7%. I'm going to test stat. And that would be pretty decent. Bit bigger, would be nicer. Right? I'm going to go for 12%. Alright, so I've got this now on 12 percent. I'm going to just paint. And what I'm gonna do is I'm going to hold the pen. So press the pen. And the harder you press, the thicker your color. Wilco, but I'm not pressing really hard. I'm just painting in nice faint color for now. Writes, there you go. Do the same with this one too. Now if you have a problem with keeping a light pressure on your pen, what you could do too is slightest one down the opacity. If I'm now going to put in a layer, I can press really hard and it still would be faint, see, but I like to play with the pressure, so I'm going to do that. But if that's hard for you, just push it down until you cut a nice soft color. All right, that will be the first layer. And as you can see, I'm not gonna worry about having a total accurate, nice insight, just splash of color. Now we're going back to this one. And that was how I removed it. Don't do that. If you remove something accidentally, you can do free fingers. It comes back or press this little arrow down there. Alright, let's go. And I'm gonna do just a second layer, but now I'm pressing a little bit harder on where the shadows are. And by doing this, I'm just going to blend the colors a little bit and I'm varying a little bit depression. Now let's go really dark. On the bottom here, on this bottom, and right there now you get a nice color. Isn't it going to do the same here? I want to have some more color on there. And I want to have some deeper color down there. But I'm painting in this one and now I'm pressing really hard. But I'm now relieving the pressure a little bit so that I get a bit of a transition to the ego. Now, poppies are getting color. Doing the same here slightly. Now I'm going to add the color and really thicken it. So right away I'm painting in more or less Also my lights in this way. And now I can actually paint my light in because I can work with darker and lighter colors, right? I've come over there, I don't want that. So for this one, I might just lower the size a little bit to about, oh, that's too much, 7%. That makes it slightly easier to work with, right? And now I can go back to my 12 percent and do this part, right? And do this 2 bit thicker there. And this one, I'm going to go nice and thick. We missed this one. And Gala. Erase a little bit where African, totally outside. They are. Now the rest nice green colors. Let's go with the standard green color. And I'm basically doing the same. I'm lowering the size now. So about 8, 8% percent is good. I'm painting in my first layer and now I'm painting and some dark colors. I've gone outside a little bit, Let's go lower, own and others, the wrong won't go little bit lower. 6% gives me slightly more control. Here too. I'm painting in lightly the first layer going for much color. And more color. And if I go outside too much, I just do that. Now. The flowers, the leaves. So I'm going to do the same column. And if I go look on the color chart, it's up there In this color a bit towards the olive, but celebrate of leaf, probably that works the same size, right? At a bit of a darker color should pretty much not work. And we're going to lower it again. Size to about 4%. I'm not pressing too hard. Now I'm pressing hot. And same here, painting it in. Now I'm pressing harder where the shadow is. Alright, now I need to go really thin. Let's go 1%. See if that still works. Yep, and I can still add a little bit of a splash of color. Now to these radical CO2 percent would work too. Yeah, that's not a problem, right? And that would be a nice splash of color. Good. Now, the ego and I missed a little bit there. On some more green up them. Right? Let's see. That looks good, doesn't it? And aluminum there. And that would be the splash of color. Now, bit boring. So what we're going to do now that we have this color. In the last lesson. I'm just now by the way, doing some touch ups. In the last lesson, we're going to add a background to this. And let's see what I brighten this up a little bit of bright red color and see go up, co-op there. And I might give that a try, go big again. Right? So what I've done, I've taken that base color slider this up a little bit. I want to have a bit brighter yellow, red, and I want to do one layer on top of it. So I'm still on the same layer. I'm going to 12% again. And what I'm gonna do is I'm going to paint one layer over it. Now that will keep the bottom columns, but it will give my poppies see that nice red color they should have. But it still keeps the bottom layer. We've still got that dark and shadow going on day you go, nice, not a fear or you could do this in on a new layer two, but we're mixing these colors. There we go. All right, now I'm not happy with these edges. So adding a little bit to these edges, Diego. Okay. Alright, and that makes it a lot nicer. Okay, that's good enough. I'll see you in the next lesson. 8. Creating a Background: Welcome back. Well, next lesson. Yeah, this is next lesson. Final thing we're gonna do, background for a background. Let me see. We're going to pick artistic. And this one is on hearts. That would be really these, these, all of these, these artistic ones would really work well for the background. But hearts is the one I picked in my test. So I'm going to stick with hearts. Now. I don't wanna do that. So I've cut the hatch brush, the heart brush. I want to put on the biggest size I can get, and I want to get a background colors. You can pick colors anyway, you like, I'm going to pick yellow and we're going to pick this another light yellow, not dark yellow, just somewhere in between as you can see it right there. And I'm going to paint in that background now I'm going to use a light pressure. And what it can see what happens first. Now I need a new layer under the water column. And there we go. And I'm just painting in that. Now that is boring, isn't it? Really boring? So I'm gonna do another layer on it with a slightly darker yellow on my just picked out a yellow. And I'm going to press C, not paint, press now. Present some background effect. And under here I might just paint in some extra there. All right. Now, that is grade. Yours probably will not look like this. Yeah. You get a different effect with everyone. If you're happy with this, you could do this corner bit darker even. Let's go for that and see what happens. So the nice thing about Procreate, we can play or put it more towards the orange. I'm going to lower the size a little bit to about 40 percent. I would say. I'm going to add a bit of a corner there. Now that looks nice. Add some splashes parent layer. And I might just as well go slightly darker, still orange, and do that on this side too. All right, and now we're getting also that light and shadow effect, light from here, dark from their datasets. That's it for my background. So recap that quickly. I took the Hartz brush. You can pick another one. I started with. Very Hi one, the a 100 percent the opacity humps and two, I picked a light yellow, painted it in, then I want a tint, darker painted in some didn't paint in but pressed. And then I went a tint darker to cut this shade and attend darker to get that one. And this one looks great. I'm not going to worry about that is comes through little bit. It looks great this way. All right, that is it for this one. Next up. Last bid. The project. 9. The Project: Welcome to the last video for the populace. Now, this is about the projects. Of course, I've shown you all of this and now it's your turn to do something with it to create a composition with poppy flowers. Now I've arranged them in a certain way by using just one flower and turning it into certain directions and angles. And I've drawn that. Now you can pick more flowers. You can even go outside and just sit and draw life while you're looking at the flowers or pick photographs, use the photographs I've supplied. That's all up to you. But just create a composition, interesting composition with the puppies. Now you don't have to go all the way what we've done here with the column. You could just also leave them like this, black and white, but that is totally up to you what you do or add a splash of color. I at least would encourage you not to do only the outer lines, but also do the hatching and crosshatching a little bit. And then combine that with some color if you want to. Because that really looks pretty nice, doesn't it? Well, we lost some colors up physically. They are. And you get a great, interesting quick sketch, nice thing about Procreate. You can add these layers and do something beautiful with it. All right, That's it. Make a composition with poppy flowers. Arrange them the way you want. Quickly sketch them. Use a base sketch if you want to or if you're already sketch, bit more advanced than quickly sketched him, observe only the necessities of these flowers, only the main part. And not all the little faults and details. We're not focusing on that, but quickly drawing these flowers. I said, well, have fun with that.
