About This Class

I'm a small business owner. Over the years, I've often found myself needing well designed promotion material, like posters folders and brochures. But I don't have the budget to hire a professional designer to do this for me, nor do I have any time or interest in becoming a designer myself.

In this course I share with you how to make a super quick, easy and professional looking designs. In other words, this course provides you with a shortcut. If you just want some quick and good looking designs, this is a course for you. Like all shortcuts this won't give you actual designing skills, but it will give you fast and good looking results for free. You save yourself time and money so you can go do something else with your time... Like practicing piano ;)

The website I'm using in this course is: canva.com

1. Introduction design course: Hi, my name is LP UWA. I'm a Dutch concert pianist and teacher. I haven't small business of my own and often I need promotional material. However, I don't have the budget to hire a designer, nor do I have the interest or the time to study to be a designer myself. That's why I use Canva. Canva is a website which you can sign in with a free account. And it gives lots of opportunities to use templates, but, but also lots of options to play around yourself and design. In this course, I'm gonna teach you how to work with Canada. And I'm going to walk you through my own process of how I start and how I end up with a finished design that I'm happy with. And then I can use for professional-looking promotion material. So you can watch this course if you like me, are looking for a shortcut to come up with quick, easy and professional-looking designs. But you can also watch this course if you want some beautiful AND easy looking designs just for fun. After watching my course, you'll have the tools to either make professional-looking designs or to make designs just for fun, whatever you want. So if this sounds like something for you, come and join me in the first lesson. 2. Design lesson 1, getting to know canva: Hi and welcome to this first lesson. In this lesson we're going to explore the program, come fat. We're gonna start by typing convert.com in our browser or in our search bar. I don't know exactly what it's called, but the thing that you try and websites in, so we're going to time.com and don't worry, I also wrote the link of the website in the description box of this course. We're going to go to the website comfort.com. Right now I'm logged in, so let me log out for you for a second to show you how it's going to look for, you know. Okay. So this is how it's going to look for you when you don't have an account, when you're not logged in yet, you can log into your account here in the left upper corner or you can sign up if you don't have an account yet. So I'm assuming you don't have an account, so press the sign up. Now. You can either sign up with Google, sign up with Facebook, or sign up with email. So I don't have any Facebook. I always sign up with email. If you do that, you're going to ask you for your name, your email address, and he's going to ask you to make up a password. Now, I don't remember because I have an account already for quite a long time. But usually after you fill in all of this, you get an email with a link to activate your account. So I assume that you're going to get that as well. I'm sure you'll manage in any case. So since I already have an account, I'm gonna go back up here and say login. So once you're signed up and you're logged in, you're gonna see this screen in front of you. Over here up, we're gonna see all the templates. And the templates are going to help us make design super easy and fun. Over here are things that I never use, but feel free to explore them. You are, however, not going to need those in this course. You're only going to need the template section. What is also may be fun to Z is here, over here on the left side where it's written recommended for you underneath and you see all your designs. And if you click on that, you're going to see all your designs. So for example, here is a design of the folder that I made for my piano dual, which has three pages on it. And I'm very happy with the design. I could definitely not have designed that myself and it was very easy and quick. So I'm gonna go back to the homepage. Here in the upper left corner, you just press home. And now let's select a template together. If you hover your mouse here up in the screen over the Word template, you'll see different templates that you can use and they're really nicely categorized. I'm very impressed with the organization of the web site. For example, for your social media, I use this. I uses sometimes for an Instagram story or post. You can see here in the column personal that you didn't have invitations. Actually, they're so fun. I'll show you. For example, if you have a birthday party you wanted to invite people to, or a pizza party or something more serious, like a christening or a wedding. They have some really nice designs here. And if you don't want to browse all of them, you can look, for example, if you want to say you have a baby shower, you can have them specifically. That's adorable. You can have them specifically for baby shower so you can kind of be even more efficient with your time. Okay, I'm going to hover over ten plus again here, the business column I uses really a lot. So you can make logos, business card presentation. And I used the marketing section a lot because I often have to make posters or flyers or brochures. So their newsletters is also amazing. They have really, really nice templates for that as well. I love the education part by the way, especially in maybe now in this time when some of you have to educate your children, actually, making a fun and beautiful worksheet or lesson plan can really help motivate you. Okay, so for today I'm going to make a brochure. So I'm going to click in this section, marketing here is brochure. I'm gonna click that. So I'm going to make a brochure about my solo program that I'm going to advertise in concert halls over the Netherlands. And my concert program is going to be about female composers. So I'm looking for something maybe a little bit feminine. And I am going to, so you can generally, if you know very clearly what you want, you can make it a bit more pier here by selecting for a simple travel or sales. But because I don't know exactly what I want to, I'm going to take my time and browse through all of them. So if you just scroll down, you can browse through all categories. So what I'm going to do now, what is usually my process? I'm going to put a deadline to myself. I'm going to say maximum ten minutes of browsing. And why I do that is because they have so many nice templates that is very easy to get lost in the browsing. But I think it's far more efficient to actually just pick one. If you can't choose, your ten minutes are over. When you pick one, you start designing. You, you might not like it and you might not keep what you design. But after you design for a few minutes, you actually realize much more clearly what you do want. And I think it's a far faster process. And if you allow yourself just unlimited browsing time, I always feel that with me browsing time kind of become procrastination if I don't put a limit to it. So what I'm going to do now is I'm going to browse for maximum ten minutes. And I'm going to select approximately three different templates that I'd like. And then I'm going to look at each of them and I'm going to select one final one. So what you can do is if you want to make something of your own, if you don't wanna make a brochure, but for example, you want to make a invitation. Then I would suggest that you click on invitations and you browse in your templates and you do the same thing. So you your own deadline, you know, maybe you want to browse it into more or less, but you set your deadline and you select three different templates. So let's go and do that now and will continue when we've done that. Keep in mind while you're browsing, is that, for example, in such a design, the picture is really what makes the design interesting. I mean, it's kind of cool that they have the typo over here really interestingly written. But generally, if you don't have a really great and impressive picture, this design is not going to be that interesting. Also, keep in mind that you can change colors. For example, if you liked this design, but you don't like these colors, you can choose to design and change the colors. And lastly, One more thing. There are some limits to the free account. And one of the limits is that sometimes some of the pictures aren't free. So for example, on this template, let's check this one. Auc is copyrighted. So in order to remove the water mark, you have to pay for euro. If you don't want to pay, you might consider getting camphor pro personally, I don't think it's worth it because I think they have so much amazing things for free that I'm not very disturbed if I have to choose a different template. For example, if I liked this template, but it's not for free them, you know, there's enough other beautiful templates that I can get for free. But of course, absolutely up to you. So happy browsing. I've chosen for templates actually, because I found several. One's interesting. Here. You are seeing like I liked how, how kind of busy this design was. So I knew that even if I put some pictures of my own, the design is still pretty interesting. And sometimes what I'll do is I'll make several different designs at once and see whichever one I like best. This is kind of really simple. But simple can be really nice, especially if you have some good pictures here. What I really liked about this design is kind of how they keep one in the same picture, but they kind of cover the picture in half. I felt that might be pretty cool actually. And here I like the diagonal Design Tourist. Actually maybe I'll, maybe I'll start with this one. I think this is really cool, fit, really nice with me with what I want. And this alike, because they have really a lot of different places for information. I think that I will exclude go and work on these two. I'll just work on them real quick and see see which one I'm going to continue working on. So you press on, use this template if that went a little bit too fast, don't worry, I'll shoot this, show this again with the other one. So here on the right side, you can say use this template. And then you're going to get to the interface. So we're going to start working in the next lesson on our templates. See you then. 3. Design lesson 2, getting to know our tools: So welcome to the second lesson in which we are going to work on a template. So I have chosen to work on this template first because I think is the most simple and I'll very quickly be able to see if I like it and if I want to continue designing it, I'm going to walk you through what we're seeing now, what's important for you and what I use very often. Ok, so here on the left you're seeing other templates. This can be useful if you want to switch templates. But for now if you press this little arrow here, do you see this? It says Hi. So if you click that here, you don't see that. And you have a nice clean screen in which you can work. So on the left side are all the things that are actually very important for you to know. Here we are in the upper corner, we have the templates. We already discussed this. Here you have uploads. So apologies wherever you want from your own computer to upload an image or a picture that you want to use, for example. And this is one of the pictures I recently uploaded, which was done from a photo shoot for me and my duo partner. This I used for our brochure, for our piano dual. So whatever picture you want to upload, you can just click Upload and then you'll be going into your computer. You can upload whatever picture you want. After this comes photos and all of them are only available for Pro. And some of them are free as you see. For example, if you want to use this as an image, you see comes here as an image and it's completely free. I, myself use websites that have copy free pictures on them in case I need something that I don't have. For example, if I don't want a picture of myself, but I want, for example, a beautiful picture of a piano. I would go online to one of the copyright free websites that I know to find a nice picture that I like. And then I use the upload tab to do uploaded here so that I can use it in my template. Examples of free websites where you can get copyright free pictures, I will add in the description box of this course. So we looked at photos. You can actually find some really nice free pictures here as well. And the search box makes it actually really easy. For example, if I would search for piano, I would be getting some really nice images of a piano also free. So then we go further on in the column on the left, we go down and we see elements. Now, Elements is something that I use pretty often and they have all kinds of elements. For example, a grid is something you can put a picture in it, Blanco and your picture will feel it. A shape is actually in itself. You can't put a picture in that, or you could put a picture over it. But you can, for example, if you want to have some playful, so you can add shapes. I'll show you a design in which I did this. For example, in this designs, I used a lot of the circle shapes and I made them different colors. So you can use these if you want to make some playful designs of your own. This one I created without a template but just with some playful shapes. So if you want to experiment a little bit and have fun, I would definitely recommend using some of those nice shapes. Oh, and if you want to go back, you just have to press Control Z, like anything else you see now oppressed controls that a few times and we're back to our templates. Here we were at shapes. Here underneath is one I use very often as well, frames. If you drag frames on over, you can drag that here. And in a frame you can put a picture, for example. This is a picture. And you can put a picture there, don't worry, I'll show you later on how to adjust that, but that's what frames are for. I also uses very often. So we were here in the left column and elements stickers. I never used this. I don't know what it's for, but feel free to explore it out if you like charts. I also never used, but it's pretty awesome. And gradients is kind of the same like shapes, but in a nice, a full gradients, so it goes from pink to blue. Let's press controls that again because I moved something there. We delete that. If and if you want to delete something just to click on it and press Delete, it will go away. Very easy. Lines, this is one I use also very much here. You can get lines and you can make them thicker or thinner by just pulling on the arrows. And as you see that I'm doing this. Of course it took me quite a while to figure out all these things. So I think that's the great thing about being able to watch a course. You know, you save yourself quite some time. But it is pretty intuitive. So you are going to be able to definitely get the hang of that in case you forget anything. Here. By the way, this little turning arrow, you see this. You can turn the line and make a diagonal or make it vertical or horizontal, whatever you want. So I'm going to press Delete again, cuz we're not gonna need this. O, we obviously have a new coronavirus. Bold foliage. So if you click on that, you get a beautiful flower here. And whatever image you have, by the way, you can change these colors, like I mentioned, you can change the colors of the templates. You can also change the colors of the flowers so we can make purple flower here instead. Okay? Some symbols, some objects. These are things I never use, but I do know people that use them Actually a lot. And so we're kind of coming to the end some nice pictures and shapes and such. Very nice. The going down we have the tab text. You can add a heading which is very large. You can add a subheading, which of course is smaller, and a little body of text. I use this also often. Here you can choose all kinds of different styles. I personally find it very difficult to judge what texts looks good. So I'm always selecting this already when I do a template. And if I do want to add any text, I usually just copy whatever text I have and make here a new column of text. So that's usually how I do it. But if unlike me, you are actually good at finding texts that fit your design where you Well. I mean, have a fun play around it. It's really good. Okay. Oops. Control sets. If you did something bad, the text actually doesn't go away when you click on it and be present in each act, press backspace, then it goes away. So controls it because I don't want that gone. And underneath texts is videos. I never used that because I use this only for design and not for video. Background is something I use. Backgrounds, I think is a really nice one. For example, if you want to make an Instagram post with a nice quote, thing is super cool to have a nice background and then some text in front of it. Let me show you actually really quick how to do that, because that's so quick and super fun. You can click in the templates on Instagram posts as you just saw me do. And then you, for example, can create a blank Instagram post. Scroll down here, pick a background that you like. For example, this one. Then click on elements and choose, for example, a square. Kind of a nice color, green, but I think I'll make it blue. So that's a nice color, blue. But I like this OK. Now over here and don't worry, we're going to discuss this more. I was just happy to show you how to make this real, real quick. Over here you can change the transparency. And then on top of this you can type any kind of post that you want to, any type of quote or something that you wanna share. I think that's really awesome and it takes about two minutes. Let's go back to our template, we were and backgrounds. So like I said, you can use this example, that's an awesome one. You can use that for lots of things. I use the mutually for Instagram posts. Over here are folders. I never used that. I think that's whenever you purchase something. I don't think it's important for you. I never took, took a look at this. So if you are interested, of course, you can easily take a look at it. As with everything I'm thinking, it will be pretty intuitive and easy to understand. Now we explored everything. Let's in the next lesson go and start designing. See you then. 4. Design lesson 3, the design process: Welcome to the third lesson in this design course. In this lesson, we're going to explore some things that I use very often while designing. I assume that you either picture own template or you pick the same one that I have. And you're also ready to get to work on your design. Okay, first things first, let's take a look at some of the things I use very often that would be useful in the previous lesson, we discussed the column on the left corner of our screen and all the things that you can do with this. And in this lesson, we're going to discuss more of the designing process itself. To begin, down here in the corner where it says 35%, you can adjust how much you're zoomed in. For example, if you want to see how it will look at a great distance, you can choose a smaller number. And if you want to look at it more zoomed in, you can choose a larger number. And if you press fill it will feel your screen and if you press fit, it will go back to the thirty-five percent. I like it on this percentage show. I'm gonna keep it unless I want to check at some close detail than I sometimes zoom in. Also, this is the full screen button in case you want to look at it in a full screen. Should go back to you. Just press on the same little icon where it says, when you hover over it, it says exit full screen. Okay, so if you start clicking, you will see in the right corner here, you will see some different things. This is one I use very often. This is the transparency. It says 20 at the moment, but if you drag it up, you'll see that the picture actually becomes more visible. So when you put the transparency higher, you will have a more visible kind of picture. And if you put the transparent to see lower, you will see the red that's on top of it. You can also just fill it in here if you know what percentage you want. This design has different layers. As you can see, it has this little picture in the corner. It has some elements. If you want to compress controls that to get it back to where the, where it is. And I think that makes it really nice and fun. Okay, so let's take a look at some other things. The text actually that's a really important one. You can change the text color here. You can change the font here, that font signs. And you can change the alignment of the text if you want it centered or to the right, to the left. Over here, R, if you want to make a list, if you want to make bullet points, and if you press on these little dots here you see some more things. Feel free to explore all those things. I will show you the things that I often use for design. So I often use, of course, the changing of the font size. And I often use the training of the transparency. Now position is another very important thing. This is about what position it has in the design. So let me show you an example of how you would use position. For example, if you put an image on top of here in this moment it has the position of being in front. But if you would say go to the back, you see that it is now behind all the other layers. But this is something that I would use very often with being sure that text is in front, for example, being sure that pictures are behind. I play a lot with this different thing. So that's a really useful one to remember and to use. Okay, let's get rid of our picture. And that's a little bit, you have to be sure that you click on the right thing. For example, I tried to click on the picture, but instead, I clicked on this little red corner you see here it's highlighted. So whatever you clicked on, it shows you that by highlighting it, by actually want to show you something that is not currently in this design. Yes. So as you notice, because we have a brochure, we have two pages. And very often in a template, the heading and the text would be actually combined. It would be connected. So whenever you trying to I'm trying now to drag the the heading up. But as you see that the text also comes with me now took ages for me to find this out and it was very frustrating, but actually it's quite simple to unlink them. What do you do? You press over here, up on top on the right side is written ungroup. You press that right now they're both still highlighted. But if you click over here outside of the template, now you can just select one. I couldn't do that before. Now you can just select one and you can drag it wherever you want without the text also coming with you. So that is something that is very, extremely useful to know because that can be pretty frustrating when you don't know how to do that. If you do find yourself grabbing a title and the text is coming with, just makes sure to ungroup those. As a general rule, I actually always ungroup the text because you might want tiny bit of more space, for example, between the heading and the text is just very useful to ungroup those. Those are the things that I use often and I think it's very useful to know before you start designing. And I think now we're ready to start our design. When I start my design, I usually try to have a little text repaired of what I want to write. And I tried to have a general idea of what I want. So I was mentioning before that this is about my program, my concert program, that I'm advertising too, different concert halls. And it will be about female composers and I'm very excited about it. And I thought to have something feminine. I think it's nice to have a picture of myself in like a little bit about me, section of text and a picture of me, and perhaps a picture of Fanny Mendelsohn, which will be the main composer in my program with any Mendelson is actually the older sister of Felix Mendelssohn, who was a important composer of the Romantic period. She actually wrote over 400 works. But because she was a woman, she wasn't allowed to publish her works. But they're really brilliant and I'm very excited to be performing them. So I think it might be nice to have a picture of fundamentals on baby somewhere featured. I'm also going to perform a Dutch composer, which I'm excited about. So maybe it's nice to have her picture somewhere. I don't know yet, but let's start. I usually I usually try to avoid thinking too much. I just like to call up on some stuff there and pay along as we go. And because we do have several composers and I want a picture of myself, I'm not a 100% sure that this template is going to be the one we're going to stick within the end. So in a few minutes, I might actually also decide to check the other template and see if that one works better. So the first thing I'm gonna do is I'm going to search for some pictures and I'm not going to bother yet with copyright-free or anything. I honestly just want to see how it would look with a picture of fundamentals. And so I'm just going to use Google. And that's a lovely word. Oh, you know, this is actually a really nice portrait y, because it is drawn by her husband. I know that her husband was an artist. He drew this portrait of her, and her husband was the one that fully supported her composing. At the end of her life, she did publish a several of her works and he was actually the reason that she did that. So it might be kind of romantic to have that portrait there. Let me download this. So as I said later on, I'll check to find something copyright-free. But for now, let's just have a look at how it looks, what you can do also, you see that I downloaded here, you can just drag it up here. Really easy. Takes tiny bit to load of course are just wait for that. Hmm. So that's not gonna work. You see, I drag that over here. That just makes it yeah, that's way too big. We'll have a worry weird head like that. And if you want to adjust the pictures you see me doing, which you have to do is you have to double-click. Do you see that? They don't actually give you the opportunity in this case to make it smaller or anything. So this is not going to really work very well because that looks just a little creepy. Let me see if it works extreme. On the other page. Let's delete this. Then let's drag it over to the other page, K. That might be kind of nice. Let's adjust the opacity a little bit of this so that maybe we can have it a little bit more clear. Kind of nine. Maybe it would be nice to have Let me see. Kind of a zoomed in picture there. Her maybe it would be nice to have a zoomed in picture of me on the first page. And I don't know if that would work. And I like this one though. So maybe what I'm gonna do is I'm just going to do two times this one. Do you want to add a new page? All you have to do is just press Add a new page. If you want to delete it, you can delete it. So if you want to copy this one, which is what I wanna do, all you have to do is just press copy. So let's delete the first one and let's have two of these. I think maybe now we can actually put the larger kind of image that didn't catch it. You see that it brought it on top of what I wanna do is just hover it over until it is behind like that. Okay. It's kind of nice. It takes out of the way for sale. I think what I wanna do is I want to drag this over a bit. So we're gonna get it like that. See changing the design a little bit. And maybe the transparency appellate image. Here's where I'm going to stop. So I would suggest that you when you're not sure I have the feeling now that I'm not completely sure about this, I would recommend that you simply go and you work on one of the other templates that can design, because then you'll get a much clearer image. And I always like to be efficient. So let's go and go back to one of the other templates I selected. And let's see if we get a little bit more clear on what we want. So the reason that I like this template is because, because it gives the opportunity to give a lot of pictures. For example, I can include all my female composers in this, as well as myself, as well as some information. So that's actually pretty awesome. Let me do that real quick and let's see which one we prefer. Ok, so here's Fanny Mendelsohn, and that's a real nice picture for her here. Let's maybe get a picture of me in the middle here. If you want to change this, by the way, this has a grayscale Ana, do you see that it's kind of black and white. You have to go to Filter and say none, and then it becomes the normal color again as you see here. If you can also check out some other filters, I never used this. I'm not a big fan of filters, but it was obviously on grayscale. And if you want to make a normal again, you just go to Filters and say none. So other things you can do with pictures as you can crop them. And you can and I'm going to press Cancel already have if you're happy with it, you press John. You can flip them horizontally or vertically. You can change their transparency. So these are all things that you can ingest their saturation ended. Those are things that I generally never use. But you can definitely play around with that. So let's find some pictures of the other composers that I am going to perform. And let's add them. Ok, so I can very quickly see that this is definitely not going to be what I like, unlike a more simple kind of design, I also think that the goal of an advertising should be something you can see instantaneous. So if I compare d, this one, if I compare this one with this one, I feel that for me personally, this is much more clear and simple. So I'm going to go and select one of the other templates that I selected that are more simple and then I'm going to compare them. So this one for me is a definite null. And you see in this way, doing instead of thinking too much, but just going ahead and taking a few minutes, putting some pictures will bring you very quickly The image of what you like and what you don't like. So as you can in a very short time, actually zoom in on what you really like or don't like. Remember, sometimes we don't know what we like or don't like until we actually see it. With this new knowledge, I actually decided to Rouse wants more, took me only five minutes. And there are several ones that I want to work on. And I'm going to very quickly work on all of them. And then I'm going to set myself a final deadline to pick one and go with it. I also think that you have to be strict with yourself in this case, you need something for promotion. Don't allow yourself endless time, but just pick something and go with it. Remember to adjust a picture. All you have to do is click on it and then double-click. That also took me ages to find out it was quite frustrating. Let's drag this one down a little bit to make sure it's not in front of her face. So I'm really happy that I actually took the time to browse again after being unhappy with my first two attempts because you look with different eyes. So it doesn't always go like this. This is not always my process because sometimes I'm very happy, I'm already super-happy with my first design. But sometimes it takes me several tries to actually figure out what I wanted because I'm not a designer, I can't actually visualize so easily what I want. I don't know so much what I want. I don't know it until I see it, which means I can't make it by myself. And I think that's what's great about this program. Because now with the third template that I'm on, I actually realized this is much closer to what I had in mind, even though I didn't know exactly what I had in mind. But this is obviously much closer to it's why I'm very happy. I'm going to quit my first two templates because now I realize they're definitely not what I want. I'm going to very quickly do the same with the other two templates that I chosen. Then I'm going to make a final decision on which one to work further. 5. Design lesson 4, final result and your project: So in our last lesson, we're going to take a look at the final result and we're also going to go over the steps that we did in order to come to a finished design. So here is the final template that I decided to use. And my process of finding a good template is usually browsing for maximum ten minutes. I find that putting a deadline prevents browsing from becoming procrastination. After eyebrows for ten minutes and I find maybe two or three designs that I like. I'm very quickly going to add several pictures and maybe some texts here and there to see how it will look. Very quickly. I'm able to see null if I'm not sure if I like it very much or it's a definite null. Sometimes it's an immediate Yes. And what I'm gonna do is I'm going to quit all the other templates and I'm going to just work on it very detailed until it's finished. In this course. However, I wasn't very sure after my first template, and I moved on very quickly by adding some pictures to a second template. The second template was a definite gnome. So what I did is I actually started browsing again because I knew more clear what I did want and what I didn't want. The second time I browse, I put an even tighter deadline. I browsed for only five minutes. I found several templates I liked again, and I worked very quickly onto, and it became very apparent immediately that I liked the first one best. And that's the one here we see in front of us. That's the one I chose as my final template. I would advise you not to browse more than two times in total. I do believe that especially if you have a business, you need promotion material, you don't have weeks and weeks to go and do this. You know, you're going to need to find some time in the spare time that you have to finish a design. So I never allow myself to browse more than two times in this way, this is the maximum browsing that I would allow myself. Sometimes I'm lucky I have to browse only once, but if I do have to browse a second time, it always works on the second time. Just because you tried a few designs, you got a bit more clear on what you like and what you don't like. So that's the process we went through as far as browsing is concerned. After I settled on a template, I made sure beforehand I had some text and I started adding my texts and my pictures. Now if you want a complete overview of what I did exactly how to come to my final result. I did add an extra class. It's a bit slow and I don't talk as much because it's just me designing. But I do think it's very useful. Just as if my students would watch me practicing. It might not go very fast. It might be, you know, perhaps a bit slow to, to watch and to listen, but it's actually very useful to see somebody in doing their process. So if you do want to check that out, feel free to check that out after finishing this lesson. If you don't feel like I'm just go ahead and try your own design. Trying, I think is the best way of learning in any case. Now before we check out my final result, let's just see how we can actually download this has quite important, very easy though. In the right corner you see here in the button Donald, you can just download it. It suggests the PDF print, but you can choose any kind of file that you would like. I used who suggested because it's high-quality. But for example, if you would like to have a smaller file, and if you, for example, want to only the second page as a JPG file, you could also do that pretty straight forward. How you can also download IT IS press on the arrow right here. It also says download. It also gives you an opportunity to share, to print, and to present. I never used this before, but I would suggest feel free to experiment if you're interested. Now let's take a look at the final result. This is my final design, my FirstPage with program that'll story about Fanny Mendelsohn. Second page with a little bit about me section and a little bit about each composer, included with a picture of each composer right next to it. Let's check it out on full-screen. Here's a second page where we were nice and zoomed in. And here is the first page. What I always do before sending it off is I downloaded and I check it out. And when I downloaded, I actually saw that I forgot that not only you and I added it. And very often if you would download it somehow because it's a different file somehow you do see more things. So I would always suggest that or, you know, just have somebody else look at it, make sure there's no typos or something like that before you send it off or printed or whatever you're gonna do with it. Now maybe you started already designing while you are watching this course. But if you didn't start, I would suggest that even if you don't need a design right now, I would anyway, just make a quick make it quick. Instagram post or mechanize invitation. Maybe you're having a dinner party soon or a little get-together mechanize invitation. Just because if you listen to a course, you'll learn a lot. If you don't immediately put that to practice, you're going to forget everything you learned and that's a shame. So I would suggest that even if you don't need promotional material or anything right now, just give it a go. Make any design that you like. They also have great educational templates, as I said in the beginning. So you can make something fun. And please, when you make it shared with me and your fellow students in the project section, I'll be so curious to see what you designed. Good luck, have fun, and if you want, you can watch me come to the final result, although little tweaks that I make. And if not, just go ahead and make your own design right now. 6. Design lesson 5, bonus: I actually thought you might like to observe me in what I design. So I'm going to add this as a little extra lesson for only the people who are interested to just observe how I kind of play around with the design. So just to see what you missed, Actually, I'll press some control zed. So, okay, I started with kind of playing around with this hexagon a little bit. I thought it would be kinda cool if its little larger. And it kind of makes a little cut into the picture. I kind of like that playfulness. So I decided that I'm going to play around with that. Thought. It might be nice to have a little contrast. Mit is little bigger. And I'm going to be playing around with the where the text is going to come and going to fill in my program details. And if you're interested, just go ahead and watch. And of course, if you if you're watching this, you have any questions, something that I'm not explaining to you, feel free to just ask them in the comment section. When I work with text, I've sometimes zoom in. Just gonna Ungroup this, by the way. After you ungroup it, make sure you are not selecting both as you see, because otherwise it will feel like it's not grouped. So I think that this text is way too small, but I'm going to adjust that a little later. Actually, I can't see a thing, so maybe I'm going to adjust it now. So right now I am working on my texts. What I'm gonna do is I'm going to type my whole program. And in the end, I play around a little bit and I make a list as I've showed you in one of the videos, how to do that. And I've also chosen to make my titles bolts. So that's where the part we're skipping and we're going to continue where I'm finished already with the text. If you want to copy a figure like you see me doing here, it's very simple. You just prints Control C or Command C if you're on a Mac. And then you can copy the elements that during that you'll want to copy. I'm just showing you this here how I play around with the, with the lines and with the elements, because this creates a really playful kind of look and sometimes they go for it. In this case, I'm already liking what I did with the shapes or with a line. So later on you'll see me actually coming to the conclusion that I just want the one large hexagon with the text in it. See here, for example, I want the hexagon to be behind. The text has changed the position to backward. And now you see it is behind the text. Here. I want to put a little story actually about Fanny Mendelsohn. And I think I'm going to put that here in a place that's Ungroup this text de-selected. And then I'll type my story and I'll, and I'll join you again when I'm finished with that. Don't like the location of this, so I'm going to play around with that a little bit. Find a way if you're too lazy to change the text. Science, you can always just drag it out as I didn't know. Oh, and if you need to make really small adjustments, you just press the mouse and the keyboard, the arrows, the arrows on your keyboard. So in that way, you can make really small adjustments very comfortable. And you can make them a little, little bit smaller than than what you would do, which would be able to do with your mouse. Let's zoom out a little bit now, see if I kind of like it. So not completely imbalanced. Just work a few minutes more. After a few minutes of changing the position of the hexagon, I'm drawing it in a little bit to the right and I check it now, zoomed out. For now. I'm pretty happy with this. I all also would advise you as I also remind myself not to stick on one page for too long even if you're not 100% happy with it. Because if you just work on the next page, after a few minutes, you might get some fresh pair of eyes. And if you look at the, at the first page, then back again, you might get some new idea. Whereas if you continue and continue and continue, you just kind of get tired and you don't, you don't really have any fresh ideas anymore. So you're just not being very efficient. So I'm gonna stop for now and I'm going to continue working on the second page. Okay? Yes. So here I'm just figuring out my texts and we're just putting them for you, so I'll probably skip this for you. I don't think you'll learn anything for that. Just make sure you figure out what to do right before you put it in and always make sure to ungroup it. So if you, if you don't see ungroup here in the menu mixture to click these three dots, that's more. And then press on group. Remember to click away so that you unselected. And then you can move them independently from each other. Came so I just copied my text already. I'm just gonna paste it and it's aligned. Just highlight everything when you want to check the alignment. Let me align it and there's some weird enters. I'm gonna get rid of that. So I'm gonna do all my texts this way. And then you can come join me for the final results. So I thought it might be nice if the pictures actually, even though there were pretty cool. Designed in the way that they were. I thought it would be pretty cool if I had the picture of the, of the composer right next to the little story about a composer. So that's what I change now. And pretty soon after I finish this, I will zoom out and I will see Executive where to put them because you can't do that. Zoomed in because you can't see the big picture. Remember you can move your things also with the arrow keys. For example, when I'm zoomed out lenses, you can lose them up and down, but very, very large distances. So if you want to do a bit more detailed work, you can always just make sure your child or whatever it is you wanna move is highlighted and then press the arrow keys as I just did. Okay, that looks pretty good. Kinda makes sure the pictures kind of correspond to overlap a little bit. That's kind of playful. I think one a little bit behind, like this, one a little bit of front. Do you see those little arrow lines kind of tell you if they are straight compared to one another. Okay, just some little info. Well-meaning then we'll be all done. We'll be all set. Okay, here's me just having finished my text and I find it not completely easy to read. And I think easy to read is something that's very important for promotion material. So I'm gonna try and something in a, in a minute. I'll tell you what. If it works, I'll tell you what I did. Just to make this a bit more readable. You see that I took from the recently used as very useful actually. Otherwise, if it didn't, if it wasn't included in your recently used, you just go to the shapes and then you choose. This triangle, triangle, that's not a triangle. You choose this square over here. Now, it automatically went to green prolly because I was using this color. You can change the color, but I really like the green and it's about making it a bit more readable. However, I do want to see the picture in the background, so I'm going to click on it and you see it's selected now. And then I'm going to go over here that transparency. So if I change that still nice and readable, which you can see me still through the picture. You can make that smaller or bigger and you see here just moved it to the left, which I think is maybe not the best for the design, but I'm not completely happy with how much it covers the picture. That's the key, just to change the capacity to pull it down a bit. So I'm going to experiment a little bit with where it is. You see me experimenting a lot in general. You know, you can do this as much as you want. You don't have to do this a lot. You can just leave it OK there. But this is something I'm going to send out throughout the year. And I really like to be precise amount it like to play around a lot because I really see things. I really have to see things. So if I move things around, I'll know if it's right or wrong. That's how I like to do it. I'm pretty happy with that. What I am going to do now is I'm going to check to see the full screen and see if the texts are big enough. And I always choose to do this at the end, because I like to have the whole design down before I start experimenting with text signs. Like the signs of this very much. This is a bit on the small side, so I'm gonna see if I can just make this a tiny bit bigger, this font. Let's check the other page. Oh, typo. You see sometimes you actually have to zoom in in order to checkout those typos in order to spot them by hand. The feeling this isn't completely straight. Do you see that? It was my imagination. I'll check that as well. So a couple of things to check yet, but I'm pretty happy with that actually. Yep. Very nice. I'm going to readjust the texts now to make sure that I can bump up the science a bit and come join me after I'm done. There we go. I think that fixed in really well, we govern slightly bigger fonts. Now. Let me change my tank though. And this should be extra, just correct. So that was just my imagination. Thought this was maybe a tiny bit to hitting the edges to think that looks good. And we can do 28.5. I think that's also definitely something for good design. It always needs to have some space, some space to breathe, some air. Just only going to experiment a tiny bit with the facing of this before I am going to save it and consider its finished. I kinda like that. I like experimenting with some of the shapes I think is kind of gives it something playful. Let's check it in full screen. I'm just doing these picture stand out a bit more. I thought actually maybe to try to put them in a little hexagon frame. So that's what you see me doing. Just copying those tiny little white hexagon and making them a little larger. And you see me here just experimenting with the position. I thought it might look nicer for the position for the hexagon to be behind the picture, but I actually don't like that, so I'm going to put it back in, fronting in. And I'm just gonna do the same with all the other pictures. Okay, then we have here the finished results. And I really hope you enjoyed and especially that you've learned a lot from this course. Don't forget to upload your own design in the project section and shared with me and your fellow students. Thanks so much for watching and see you in the next course.
