1. Why I'm Exciting About This Course and Why You Should Be Too: welcome to the profitable keyword research course. I'm very excited about this course because we're going to break down what must be the first piece of any successful CEO campaign, but it tends to be one of the hardest for many. But the good news is it's about to get a lot easier for you. My goal is to make sure that by the end of this course, you're going to feel comfortable moving forward with the key words you've carefully researched so that you know your S E O campaign is going to be as successful as possible. Keyword research is actually not that hard to do. It is time consuming, but it is always time that is very well spent. Many people get stuck in this phase of S E O, and it's often not because keyword research is too hard. It's really just out of the fear of the unknown. It's the uncertainty of whether or not we can actually rank for the keywords we've research and ultimately profit from them. Now you're going to feel confident in your research and know that you are giving yourself the best possible chance to be as profitable as possible, so let's get right to it, 2. How to Take This Course: I've packed a lot of information in this course, and it's very much meant to be a hands on course. I want you to learn the important steps for doing keyword research, and I designed the course for you to follow along and actually complete keyword research right along with me. To get the most out of this course, I recommend that you take notes as you go and stop to perform each step of the keyword research process as we get to it. That way, you can have a solid list of keywords to move forward with as you complete the course. This course was designed to be completed in order, so trying to skip to different sections, if you can. With that being said, I'm really excited to get started. So let's start learning about keyword research. 3. What is Profitable Keyword Research?: by itself, Keyword research is one of the most important aspects of search engine optimization. You can use all sorts of S E O tricks and techniques to rank a website. But if you aren't targeting the right keywords, you're really just wasting your time. Whether you're trying to rank your own website or rank websites for clients, it's important to research the terms riel users are searching for, so you or your client can make the most money from your efforts as possible. This is where profitable keyword research comes in. By the end of this course, you will know exactly how to generate a long list of keywords and exactly how to research them to find out the ones that will be most profitable for you. So no matter how good you are, S CEO, if you start off with the wrong key words, it won't get you very far. So in just a few minutes, we're going to generate a long list of keywords for you and begin the research process 4. Lecture 4: What Can You Do With Your Keyword Research: once you know what you're doing, You weren't. Research is actually pretty fun because once you know how to properly find and research the right keywords, there really is no limit to what you can dio. After you complete your research, you will feel 100% confident and moving forward with S e O. Because you will know that you can rank for certain keywords and not just hope that you can . And that's key, especially if someone else is paying you to rank you their website. But even if you're doing this for your own efforts, you just don't want to waste your time. But you don't have to just sell SDO services toe. Learn about keyword research. If you want to start your own blawg niche or authority site, promote affiliate products or rank your own business website. Keyword research is still going to be the most important step you take towards making sure your s e O efforts are profitable 5. Lecture 5: The Benefits of Keyword Research Beyond Just Traffic: When someone says keyword research, you probably immediately start thinking about ranking a website on the first page of Google on. While that is definitely a key benefit, there is a lot more that keyword research can tell you. Keyword research has everything to do with online marketing. It will tell you how to title your post or your articles on your website. It will tell you what users are searching for, so you know what information they want and what products air services they want to buy keyword research. It also tells you how these users describe your product, service or information that you are providing, which can help you sell more because it may surprise you how others actually define or what words that they use to describe your products or your services. So you may be able to better target your keywords or add in additional keywords to help others find you that you may not have thought of. And of course, the right keywords will help you to optimize your website and structure website content so you can achieve high rankings for highly targeted and profitable keywords. So, as you can see, there are really a lot of benefits to taking the time to understand how to do keyword research and also taking the time to actually do it. 6. Lecture 6: The 5 Keyword Research Process: keyword research is a process, and we're going to follow this process step by step before we dive into the juicy part of the course. I want to give you an idea of what this process looks like, and I break it down into five steps. So we're going to start with generating a list of keywords, and we're going to start by generating a long list that we can narrow down at each step of the process. So by the end, we will have our final set of key words that were going to target. The second step is we're going to determine what the search volume is for those keywords and then narrow down from there with those keywords that we've narrowed down, were then going to move on to checking the ranking data in the competition for those keywords so that we can then further narrow down our list by determining which ones we will be most likely to rank for next. We're going to organize our final list of keywords so that we can determine how we're going to move forward and begin ranking for those keywords. And finally we will start putting our keyword research into action. And this is really where your Aseel campaign is going to begin because you have completed the keyword research process and you now know which keywords are going to be the most profitable for you and which ones you are going to be most likely to rain for. 7. Lecture 7: Section Intro: I'd like to spend just a little bit of time talking about the types of keywords you're going to come across as you start building your keyword list and doing your research. I believe learning about the different types of keywords is going to really benefit your results. So taking the time now will pay off down the road. But more specifically, we're going to look at search intent and some other key word terminology that will help you better identify good keywords to target. 8. Lecture 8: Signs of a Successful Keyword Research to Look For: there are actually many signs of a successful keyword, and it's very easy to think that just going in, looking at Google AdWords planner and seeing what the traffic numbers are seeing that there is a lot of searches means it's a good keyword. And even if you narrow that down a bit, you look at the exact searches versus the broad searches and keyword research. You really want to see if there is a lot of demand for that keyword. So, yes, you want to look at the traffic numbers as well. Take a look at in the course, but also when you type the keywords into Google, are there sponsored ads on the right hand side of the search? Are people actually paying for those keywords? Because if you think about it, no one is going to pay for key words that are not profitable. So if you see a lot of competition in the sponsored ads, that's a good sign. You also want to make sure that the keywords are targeted and that they're relevant to what it is that you do or what you are trying to achieve. We'll also take a look at how hard is it to achieve rankings, Every keyword is gonna have some form of competition. So we want to determine how hard it is to actually achieve rankings. And so we're going to be looking at the competition so that you can determine if you're gonna be able to do that easily, or if it's going to be so hard, it's not really going to be worth your time and that you should move on to the next one, or at least save that keyword for later down the road, once you've ranked for some other keywords that are a bit easier, and you also want to select the keywords that are going to drive targeted traffic because if you drive traffic to your website, that's great. But if it is not targeted, toe what you do or why you want people on your website that is not going to be a successful keyword for you. They're going to leave this site, so we're going to take all of these things into consideration. One. Selecting the most profitable and successful keywords 9. Lecture 9: Understanding Search Intent: different keywords show a searchers interest and intent and understanding. This will help you select the keywords that will drive the most targeted visitors to your site and the key words that will have the highest conversion rate for you. So there's both informational and transactional type keywords. Informational keywords are going to be what people search for when they're looking for more information on a topic. They're not necessarily interested in purchasing anything. They just are looking for information. So this could be a search on cat ownership, flu symptoms, blogging tips, something general. There's not really anything to be purchased for the most part, then you have transactional keywords, and these key words are what users search for when they want to perform a certain activity . And that is usually buying something, signing up for something etcetera. So to give you example, this could be somebody searching for Get a car insurance quote or subscribe to X Y Z program or by an LCV TV. These people are looking to perform an action, and they're likely to have their wallets out and ready, or they're very close to it. So these transactional keywords have more buyer intent and You can usually identify these keywords pretty easily because they include product related keywords or these buying keywords, so this could be specific brands. Or this could also be key phrases that include words like by discount coupon purchase and the list goes on. These indicate that the searcher is ready to take action now, and product key words have a higher conversion rate because the searcher is typically close to taking action. So these are the ones that are actually gonna include a specific brand name like Sony Apple , etcetera or even breaking that down further. And they may be entering specific product names themselves. Like the iPhone six, for example, you might also find words like best top review as searchers are trying to narrow down their options. And so sometimes they're doing a comparison of the final few products or services before they make their final selection. So those aren't always as highly converting. But they're definitely still up there with the general product categories such as cat toys , for example, so these words will differ depending on whether you have a service or a product to sell. So that's something to keep in mind, too, so What we just discussed is geared more towards actual products. But if you're an accountant, for example, no one is going to type in that they want to buy an accountant, they're going to hire one. So you so just understand that the terminology is going to be a little bit different, depending on what you are offering on your site, what it is that you want visitors to actually do on your site. What is going to show that they have the intent to do whatever it is that you want them to do, whether that's subscribe to your email list, whether that is to purchase a product, click on an affiliate link, etcetera. So if you do have a service based website, you might be looking for words such as free consultation or just console higher or similar words like that. So when you hear people talk about qualified or targeted traffic, these are the key words that will get you exactly that 10. Lecture 10: 3 Types of Keywords You Need to Understand: Now that we've talked about search intent, there are a few more types of key words that I want you to understand before we get started . Now, this terminology is very important because this is going to help make your s e O campaign even more successful. And it's also going to go off. What we just talked about was search intent, So we're gonna look at three different types of keywords. There are the head keywords, which are also referred to as broad keywords. There are key words that are considered the body, which are also refer to as targeted keywords. And then, lastly, there are long tail keywords. Head tail keywords tend to be shorter key phrases that are about one or two key words in length. They're a shorter. They're less specific, but they typically have a higher search volume. Now, long tail keywords tend have three or four key words, or even more so let's look at an example. The word cats would be considered a head keyword. It is very short. It's not very specific, but it's likely to have a high search volume. But it's difficult to determine what the intent is of the searcher. Do they want Teoh by a cat toy? Do they want to own a cat? Are they looking for information on how to raise a cat? What are they looking for? It's hard to tell, so they typically start to narrow down their search. That's where the body comes in. They could then type in cat toys that starts to get a little bit more specific. Long tail that could be by cat toys. That could be a name of a specific cat toy. This is where they start to get more targeted when they see that the head or targeted keywords that they put into Google are not returning. The search is that they're looking for. That's when they start to search for longer tail keywords. This is important because often we want to start with some long tail keywords. They are going to have lower search volume, but it drives more targeted traffic. We're not after just driving traffic. We want targeted traffic that is actually going to convert, and these long tail keywords do exactly that. They drive targeted traffic, and that means your conversion re is going to be much higher than it would for all the traffic that you could get for some of these head terms. So let's face it. Would you rather have to work to drive 100 people to your site to get 10 purchases? Or would you want to work so hard to drive 1000 visitors to your site just to get the same result? Personally, I don't want to work that hard. I would rather drive the 100 targeted visitors that are going to make those 10 purchases that I need. It's all about R A Y and conversion as well. So it's easy to get excited about the broad keywords because they have high search volume. But before you get too excited, remember that they likely have a lot of competition and think about the buyer intent. Often, they're going to be early in the purchase cycle, so they will have a lower conversion re. The's long tail keywords are also going to be less competitive, and they're going to be cheaper for you to rang for, so just keep all of that in mind when generating your list. If you're still not sold on these long term keywords, keep in mind that about 40% or more of all, the online searches today are made up of four or more words. That is a lot of searches that are made up of long tail keywords, and that is, ah, lot of traffic, the juke and target. So when you start a new SL campaign, you want to go after what I call quick wins. This means starting with the keywords you feel like you can rang for the quickest. This will put your website on the map and help give you some early organic search momentum while you work on ranking for other keywords. 11. Lecture 11: Section Intro: in this section. We're going to take a quick look at some of the keyword research tools, and I'll show you where you confined both free and premium tools so you can select the ones that work best for you and what you're trying to accomplish. I'll be using a select few of these tools during the course so you can see them in action. However, I will also include some other good ones here that can achieve the same results. 12. Lecture 12: Use of Keyword Research Tools: as with a lot of things, you can do keyword research for free. But at the same time, there is also paid software that can do the job for you. It doesn't necessarily make it better. It just makes it faster. So, depending on how much you want to do manually, how much time you want to invest in keyword research and, of course, what your budget is. I'm going to give you both free and paid tools that you can choose from so that you can decide what you like best and what you feel is going toe work best for you. If this is something you just want to do one time, maybe twice. You may want to stick with some of the free tools, however, if you plan on doing a lot of keyword research. Whether you plan on creating a lot of websites for yourself or you will be doing this as a job, this is something you will be doing for others. Then you may want to invest in some of the paid software tools. Just you can get through this a little bit faster, but as you'll discover in this course will be using a variety of tricks and techniques and tools to make sure you get the best, most profitable keywords for your website. So after you go through the course, you get a glimpse of some of these different tools. You can go ahead and select what you think is going to be best for you in your work long term. 13. Lecture 14: Section Intro: I am so glad you've made it this far because this is where we really start to put what we've talked about so far into action in this section. We're going to start building a long list of potential keywords for you to use, and I'm going to share several ways. You can quickly find keywords. If you use the suggestions you discover here, you can easily have a list with hundreds of potential keywords, so let's have a look. 14. Lecture 15: Using What You Know (or Your Client) Knows to Start Your Keyword Research List: Now we're ready to start our keyword research. And so the first step that we talked about is generating a long list of keywords. So that's what we're going to start doing. The first thing that I dio and this is depends on whether I'm creating a website for myself or I'm generating a list for a client. I want to just start out by just brainstorming and thinking about the terms that I think users might search for to find the website I'm working on, whether or not that actually is gonna work out with the research, the idea here is just to start getting some keywords down. I like to open up, excel generally and just start typing in some key words, so I can easily cut and paste those into the different tools that will be using. The first thing you can do is just think about how would you describe the information, the services or the products on your website and start writing down the key words that come to mind. Don't worry too much at this point. If they are long tail keywords or their head keywords just put them down. We can always expand on them as we go. Think about what is your unique selling proposition, and does that generate anymore keywords for you? How do you think your competition would describe what you dio? You can also take some of the key words that you've already thought of, and you can pop those into the the saurus, and you can see if it pulls up any other words that you think users might find and add those to your list. A swell if this is for an actual client of yours. I always go to that person and asked the business owner if they will give me at least 10 keywords that they think users would search for to find their service or their product. And I have them send me over that list and I will add it to my list. That will help generate some more ideas, and it also helps me determine if we're on the same page, and I'm describing their products as they would as well 15. Lecture 16: Breaking Down Keywords into Categories to Generate More Ideas: So once you start brainstorming, you can always section these off into some category. So, for example, if I have a website that is about a landscaping service, I can have a landscaping category. I can have a long care category, lawn mowing, brush removal, sod installation, for example. These are all different categories, and then I can break each of those down into more targeted keywords. So, for example, with the landscaping keyword, I could break that down until landscaping services and then further into landscaping services in Centerville, Virginia, for example, or land lawn care, toe lawn care companies and lawn care companies in Virginia. So that's a way I can break it down later on. That's gonna help me determine what pages I create for the website, the content that I create for the website so that I can really target these keywords if the keyword research proves that those air good keywords to move forward with. So start brainstorming your initial keywords and then we're gonna look at some other techniques that you can use to expand your list 16. Lecture 18: How to Quickly Find Highly Searched For Keywords: after you run out of ideas, there are a few tricks that you can use to generate even more key words and ideas. Now, I don't want you to worry about having too long of the list because we're going to narrow that down with research. And it's definitely better to start with a longer list that you can narrow down, then to not have enough and have to start the process over again. So the first thing that we're gonna do is we're going to turn to Google. So let's go with landscaping services. When I type in landscaping services, you'll notice that it starts generating automatically. Some suggested keywords for me to enter, so you'll notice here, since this is service based, and this is often if you're talking about landscaping services, this is often going to be targeted toward towards a specific location. So it starts generating some popular areas. And if I keep typing in some other words, like cos you'll see that it generates some different keywords for me. So let's say I just type in landscaping services. You can go ahead and pull some of those keywords that it's giving you, of course, if you're looking for a particular location, you're only gonna want to use the surrounding areas that the business can actually serve. However, if you're more open, you can gather several of those. But if I go ahead and do the search for landscaping services, the next thing that you can do is scroll all the way to the bottom of Google and you'll see here the searches related to landscaping services. Now you have several more keywords, and these were going to be popular. Keywords. Typically, landscaping services list landscaping services prices to landscaping design services. So that's a key word that I didn't brainstorm. That may be a good one to add to the list. Landscaping services offered residential landscaping services, so this has already expanded my search. I can also go ahead and click on one of the searches here, And if I do the same thing and scroll down, it's going to give me even more ideas that I may or may not be able to use so I can go through to those different searches, and I can look for all these related keywords and add them to my list. If they're related 17. Lecture 19: The Tool That Gives Related Searches & Terms to Help Expand Your Keyword List: Another easy way to generate some more keyword ideas is to use Google trends. Here. You can do a quick search for a main keyword or a basic keyword on. What it's gonna do is it's going to show you first the interest over time of this keyword, so you can see if the keyword is growing an interest or if less and less people are searching for it. Now, if you are trying to rank a local business website, for example, if I am trying to rank landscaping services and in particular location and I have a whole business around this, the trends is not going to make as much of a difference to me. However, if I am trying to build a website that I just want to generate a lot of traffic to, so I can put ads on it or I want to promote affiliate products, for example, then I want to create a website that is going to be trending that more and more people are searching for, rather than something that people just don't seem to care about as time passes. But what I'm most interested in here is a couple of things. One I want to see regional interest because you want to, of course, target people in the area that you're searching for if this is going to be local for you, and you can break this down into cities to see which cities are the most popular for this particular service. But even more importantly is the related searches box. This is what everybody should care about. Here you will be able to see several queries that people are searching for and these air going to be the most related to the key word that you entered. And these air typically the queries that also get searched when somebody searches for the keyword that you entered. You can also look at the rising keywords, and these are the terms that visitors search for when they also are looking for your key word. But it has had the most growth, meaning the most visitors are coming to it during the time period that you have selected at the top of Google trends. So this will give you an idea, but you'll see here that I'm looking for 2004 to present, so I might want to go back to the past 90 days, for example, and then I can see what are the most popular during that time. It's only give me one so that I can expand on that. But I know long care services is going to be a good one. Clicking on this icon here pops up the Google search for it, and I can then go down and see what are some more of those related searches as well. 18. Lecture 20: How to Find Hundreds of Potential Keywords in Seconds: uber suggest is another way to get a long list of keywords suggest on steroids. It's exactly what it is. So if you type in your keyword here, click on Suggest it is going to populate a huge list of potential key words for you. So I have put in landscaping services, and this is going to break down some different ideas for me. Landscaping Services, Seattle Landscaping Services List. Landscaping services near Me being Eggs. Arizona. Arlington, Texas Raleigh, North Carolina. So with each one, if I was targeting Seattle, for example, I could click on this keyword and give it a second. It's going to generate some other related keywords based on that one alone. I have Northeast Landscaping Services, Seattle. These other ones look like specific companies, but that's OK, so I can go through and for all of these, whatever ones I'm interested in, I can go ahead and click through. So a lot of these are going to be around specific areas. So let's let's take a look at another one. Let's say I'm looking. I want to rank for a photography lightbox. I'm going to create an affiliate site. Now I have all of these ideas here that people are searching for and I can click on each one and it will pull down a longer list. So this is going to give me an idea for titles for Post that I can write. It can give me an idea for my domain name. It can give me an idea of what products to list on my affiliate website, and you'll see I can just keep clicking through and it's going to generate a longer and longer list. This is going to give me hundreds of keywords that I can pull. Now that you have expanded all of the key words you would like to use, you can scroll back to the top, click on select all keywords and scroll back down, and you will see here where you can remove any keywords you do not want to copy. And when you are done, you can click on get, and it will give you a plain text pop up where you can simply select all and copy. And then you can pace that directly into the keyword list that you have been creating 19. Lecture 21: Using Google Keyword Planner for Long Tail Keyword Ideas: if you've looked in the keyword research at all before, I'm sure that you've heard about the Google keyword planner. It was actually created for AdWords advertisers, but it is still a great S e o toole. In general, it's definitely not the most user friendly tool available, but on the flip side, it is free, and it can give you great information. I like to use the Google keyword planner for a couple of things, and we're gonna look at those but to start off with working and take a look at how to use the keyword planner to generate some more keyword ideas that you may not have thought of. If you don't already have an ADWORDS account, it is free, and you can go ahead and sign up just into your basic information and you'll automatically have an account. So after logging in, you can use the euro here on your screen, or you can go up to tools and you can pull down to the keyword planner. Now you're going to see here that Google gives you a number of options to find new keywords . We are gonna take a look at the first option, which is search for new keywords using a phrase website or category here, you're going to see we're gonna be presented with a number of options that we can fill out and settings that we can customize. So there's a couple of things that you conduced here. The first thing you want to do is enter a general keyword in this box here that you think you may want to target. Now, don't enter any head keywords like it suggests here, like flowers or cars. That is way too general, it's not going to get you enough of what you're looking for. On the other hand, you don't need to jump all the way to the extreme and entered all your long tail keywords that you may have already. That's going to be a bit too long. So we want to try to find something in the middle. So some of the body keywords, for example, and you can enter them there. And the keyword planner is going to help generate ah longer list of those long tail keywords that you may be able to target. So start off by just entering the keyword. You can go down below to the targeting box, and you can enter the country that you will be targeting in the language that you will be targeting. So if your website is not in English, this is where you would want to customize that setting. If you are not targeting the U. S. You you are targeting India or you are targeting France wherever you believe your audience is going to be, go ahead and set that country. If you believe it's a multiple places, you can do that to everything else. I like to just leave as is for now. We'll look at a couple of those other settings in a little bit, and then you can click, get ideas. So just given example, I'm gonna enter cat toys. And now I see a lot of information. I'm not going to pay to too much attention to it right at the moment, But there's a couple of tabs here. You'll notice there's ad group ideas and keyword ideas, so I bet you're probably thinking, well, we need to look at keyword ideas and you're right. We are going to go into the keyword ideas tab and you can go through and you can look at some of the options that it gives you, and you can add any of these a pop out onto your list, but you'll notice these aren't too long. I only entered two words as my key word here, so I can add three or four words, and I can come back and see what else it pulls up that are longer tail keywords as well. But I do want to look at the ad group ideas Tabas Well, because you'll notice that these have little links here and I can actually click in, and this is going to give me even more related keywords. So, for instance, cat toys that have bets, toys that interactive cat toys that I looked at it. So if I may say so, if I'm thinking Oh yes, I have interactive cat toys on my website. I can click through to that category, and it's going to give me some longer tail keywords that I may be able to target as well. So make sure you look at both tabs and generate some ideas from there 20. Lecture 22: Google Keyword Planner & Landing Pages: now, we just talked about entering some of your keywords into this box. What you can also do is see what keywords that generates, and once you're done, return back to this page where you started under the search for new keywords, using a phrase website or category, and then go ahead and enter your landing page. So try entering your home page and get ideas and then click get ideas, see what other keywords it comes up with. Go ahead and enter the URL oven article you have on your website and then click get ideas and see what other keywords come up. Once you're done with that, go ahead and enter in a product category and see what it comes up with. So play around with this. Start with just filling out one of the boxes and then fill out two and then fill out three in each time. Search again and you may get some new keyword ideas that were not there Initially. Another thing that I like to dio is enter my key work and then where's his landing page? I like to grab some of my online competitors, so I go to the first page of Google, I grabbed the URL. Whether it's for the homepage door, it is an article on a particular site. I popped that competitors your L into the your landing page box and I click get ideas so we can pull some ideas off of that website as well. So this is a really neat way to find other keywords that you may not have thought of using your website in several of your competitors as well. 21. Lecture 23: Section Intro: Now that you have your long list of potential keywords in hand, it's time to start the research process to determine which of those keywords are going to be the one you can use and profit from. To start narrowing down your list will first have a look at each keyword search volume to see what's worth keeping and what's not. 22. Lecture 24: How Many Keywords Should I Target At One Time?: you may be wondering just how Maney keywords you should target when you are starting now. In reality, you can target as many keywords as you'd like, but you want to do so within reason. For many businesses, starting with five keywords, give or take per month is a good guideline to use Onley. Selecting one or two key words may not attract enough visitors at enough traffic for you. But selecting 25 or 50 keywords, on the other hand, may overwhelm you. And you may not rank well for any of them if you don't have enough time to dedicate to properly working on each keyword, so you want to find a balance between what you have time for and the results you want to achieve. So that's where I say about five is a good idea. One thing to keep in mind is that just because you Onley target five keywords does not mean your website on Lee has the chance to rank for five keywords. So, for example, if one of your keywords is gardening tips, you're say will also likely rank for the same key phrase in a different order as well as key words that include what a refer to as stop words and those air words such as a the four etcetera. So in the gardening tips example, you could also rang for tips, gardening tips on gardening and so on. If you also create high quality content around those five keywords, you will likely rank for other long tail keywords. And I'm referring toe longer tail keywords that probably are too long to be picked up in the research tools. So going back to the gardening tips example. If your content includes the word best gardening tips for newbies, for example, you can get bring for that as well. Now, these longer tail keywords typically don't pull in a lot of traffic just by themselves. But when you add up all the search volume that comes from all of them put together, it can actually be pretty significant. So don't discount them. So just know, even if you start with a smaller number such as five keywords, you will likely rank for several more 23. Lecture 25: How Many Searches Should A Good Keyword Have?: one of the questions I hear the most is what search volume does a keyword need for it to be a good one. What specific number? Um, I looking for If you've talked to different s CEOs or read online, I'm sure you've come up with all kinds of answers. I'll get to some numbers in a minute. But let me tell you, what is even Mawr important to consider than the specific numbers? Well, you first need to focus on is what is going on behind all of those numbers. So what do I mean by that? Let me give you an example. Let's say you have a photography lightbox affiliate website. For each light box that is sold, you get a commission of $10. If your goal is $1000 per month from this site, you have to bring in a lot of visitors to reach your goal, so you'll need keywords with a higher search volume. On the other hand, if your commission on another product is $100 you could target keywords with a lower search volume and still achieve the same results. Does that make sense? You want to look at the conversion opportunity with different keywords. This goes back to the search intent we talked about earlier. If you're targeting buyer intent keywords with a lower search volume, you're likely to see a higher conversion rate. So that may do better than an interest keyword with more search volume, as there is a smaller chance of conversion with those. But again, what is your revenue stream Paper click ads, affiliate products, lead generation, product sales, service sales. This can all impact which number you feel will work for you. Too often, we focus on the amount of traffic we want to get the number of visitors we want coming to the site and not enough time focusing on the results that were trying to achieve. If you're aiming to get a certain amount of traffic sales etcetera on your website, it's often easier and better to find a number of key words that will drive the traffic you're looking for, then just one key word by itself. So if you want to get 1000 or 5000 visitors per month, let's say your keyword search volume can add up to that amount so you can have one key word with a search volume of 5000 or five keywords that each have a search volume of 1000. And although that can appear the same, I prefer five keywords as all rang for the long tail. Keywords is, well, naturally. So in reality, all rank for more than just five keywords. If you feel you have found some good keywords with decent search volume, keep them on your list and complete the keyword research process. You can't just go off of search volume alone keywords with a high search volume, but strong competition won't get you very far, so see the full process through while taking this all into consideration. 24. Lecture 26: Use This Free Tool to Find General Keyword Search Volume: we're gonna circle back to the Google keyword planner. We used it previously to find new keyword ideas, but this time we want to get the search volume for the keywords that we have so that we can see which ones of them are worth looking into. Further. To do this, we're going to go down to get search volume data in trends now in the box below. We can go ahead and enter all of our key words here. So if you've created a long list you can copy and paste him here. Or if you have created a CSB file in Excel, for example, you can go ahead and upload the file as well. Again, you're gonna want to select the targeting, making sure that you have the right country. Sometimes if you just wanna do Ah, general keyword list. You haven't come up with your whole full list yet. You can go back to your uber suggest list and you can select some of those keywords or all of them. And you can pop those in hit paste and then you can go ahead and click. Get search volume. Now you can see that Google is going to still give you the key word ideas that we looked at before and is going to display next to each keyword the monthly's search volume in the level of competition and on top of that, a suggested bid. So, as I mentioned previously, this is meme for AdWords advertisers. But as keyword researchers, we can still use this information. We want to see how Maney average monthly searches there are. So for landscaping services. In this instance, there are 2900 monthly searches. It says that they have high competition, and this is actually high competition in Google AdWords. That means there are a lot of advertisers bidding on this particular keyword, and the suggested bid is $8.44 a click. So we want to look for lower competition of we can, but we want to focus on the average monthly searches. But we also want ah higher suggested bid because that means there is value in that keyword . Nobody is going to be bidding for large dollar amounts if that keyword is not worth anything to them if it will not drive targeted traffic. So depending on what you're looking for, if this is for a particular local business. Let's say then the searches may change a little bit. You'll see landscaping services. Raleigh, North Carolina gets an average of 50 searches per month, and they're bidding 9 79 with only medium competition going down to Seattle in Phoenix that we have 20 searches per month, but it goes up to as high as $22 per click. So that's pretty high. So I can select from this list the ones that look best to me, the ones that I think I may be able to work with. So what I'm gonna do here is I'm gonna looked through this list, see which ones I feel pertained to me the most. Which ones have the highest search volume with a higher suggested bid as well? And then later, what I'll do is I'm going to look at the competition so that I can narrow the use keywords down further. But this search volume here and suggested. But this is going to get you started, and it's going to help you narrow down a list. One thing you can do is if you want to filter out key words. This is mostly meant for advertisers, of course. But if you want a minimum monthly search of Ah 100 searches, let's say, or you wanted a minimum suggested bid of a dollar 50. Let's say you can go ahead and add that filter to your search, and it is going to update the search results for you. This graph up here at the top is also going to be something you want to pay attention to because you can see trends you can see when more people search for keywords or less. People search for a key word so you can see it has gone up from last year. But you also noticed that in this in the winter months here in the US, it's colder. Not as many people are looking for landscaping services. So you may notice this if you are offering holiday products or services that that are geared towards certain times of the year, that it can fluctuate. So that's something to pay attention to as well, especially if you implement your ASIO campaign during a slower time that you can expect it to pick up in later months, when it tends to be more popular as well. But from this list. Go ahead and pull the ones that you feel work best for you. They will move on to further researching those in the upcoming sections. 25. Lecture 27: Another Option for Finding Keyword Search Volume: In addition to the Google keyword planner, ECM Russia is actually another great tool for finding keywords, getting search volume for those keywords in checking on the competition. So if you're considering a premium tool, this is definitely a good one to consider. ECM Rush focuses on key words at your competition ranks for so you can actually find keywords using this tool that other tools may not pick up. So let's take a quick look at how you can go about using this tool from their search box. You can enter either a keyword or a domain, so I'm going to start off by entering. One of my key words right away tells me this keyword gets 2900 monthly searches and I can go down to the phrase match keywords, and I can see what other similar keywords there there are using. The key words that I typed in so landscape lighting service looks like it's a pretty popular one, with 260 searches per month and a cost per click of $19.87. It's pretty high. Then we have we can go to view the full report, and I can pull down and I can see a whole list of keywords that also include the words that I entered. But going back to the dashboard, there also is this related keywords section that has a list here, actually 153 related keywords to what I typed in. So this is going to generate some other key word ideas for me. So again, I can click view full report, and I can see the full 153 searches. So if you have a free account, it's going to limit what you can see. And if you have the pro account, this is going to give you a whole lot of information you can cover Ah, lot of your basis using just this tool. Now here, you're also gonna be able to start seeing some of the competition that the some of the competition both your organic competition and the paid ad competition as well and appear at the top. It is going to tell you how competitive this particular keyword is, and we're gonna get into that more in the next section. And just like Google keyword planner, you're going to be able to see the trends over time as well. So I definitely recommend that you enter your head or your body keywords here because this tool is gonna be really good for giving you some long tail keywords suggestions. But in addition to the keywords, what I want to do is I want to put in my competitors, you Earl. And then I can see that they get over 2000 monthly searches per month and that the ranking for 33 key words. I can see how maney back links they have, which we're gonna talk about an upcoming section as well. And I can see how much their search traffic has taken off over this past year, so I can see that they're doing a lot of work. But I can go down and I can see what they're actually ranking for. So this might help me decide what I can target. So, of course, I don't really want to go after their name, but I can see here what they're ranking for. They're in position 17 for landscape, their position one for landscape construction. But again, I can click view full report, and I can see the full list. But here tells me they're in the top three for 10 keywords in position four through 10 on that first page for an additional 10 keywords. So I definitely want to take a look at what they're keywords are and see what their ranking for. And I can look into that a little further to see if I might be able to rank for those keywords as well. I can also go back to mine keyword search and I can go down to the organic search results and I can do a search for each of these competitors, and I can see what keywords that their ranking for and I can see which of those would be good to add to my list in which ones I'll be able to rank for as well. 26. Lecture 28: Section Intro: So now you have a list of keywords with good search volume. But before we start using those keywords, we need to narrow them down even further. To do that, we're going to take a look at the ranking data and the competition. This means we're going to determine just how hard it would be to rank for a particular keyword so you'll know which to go after first, which to add to your long term plan and which to throw out all together in this section. This is where you will be able to start feeling confident about the key words that you are selecting and will be moving forward with. 27. Lecture 29: Why Analyze Your Keyword Competition: just when you think you're done, you actually have just one last step in this keyword research process. After this, I promise you could move forward with actually implementing your S e o campaign. Now that you have a good list of keywords with a decent search volume and good buyer intent , we need to make sure that we have a good chance of actually ranking for that keyword. And that's where looking into your keyword competition comes in. To do that, we need to check out our competition on the first page of Google. So our goal here is to have both good search volume and little to no competition. This means is gonna take you less work to outrank thes sites. So from the beginning, if you do a search for your keyword and the first page returned several authoritative sites now these air going to be sites like Wikipedia, Amazon yelp, other large sites. Just go ahead and move on to the next keyword. Scratch that one off your list. It's going to be very difficult for you toe achieve those very top rankings. Let's take a look at example of this if I search for DSLR cameras. The first search after the paid ads is Best Buy, which is a huge company. Then there's Amazon pH. Photo and video, which is another large company. Nikon WalMart Again, Another Wikipedia Seen at PC Mag These are huge websites, these air, very authoritative sites in the eyes of Google, so I might as well move on. But if I look for, let's say, hair mask recipes, for example, the very first search is HUD pages. So any time you see something like this where it's have pages or one of those other article type sites, that is a good sign that this is going to be easier keyword to rank for. So if you have these less authoritative pages, if you have sites that are hosted on WordPress or blogger places like that, those are all good signs that you will be able to rank relatively easily for those keywords . But one thing to keep in mind is that Google rankings pages they do not rank entire sites, so we need to look at the authority of that particular page and not the site as a whole. The exception to this is going to be large e commerce sites. So these air going to be sites like Amazon, for example, because they are a huge brand. And to be honest, Google tends to favor them in the search results, so it's gonna be very hard for you to outrank. But other sites like Wikipedia as well are going to be more favored in Google asses. Well, even if they don't have all the correct S CEO tactics in place that you and I need to use on our website. So if you're not seeing big sites or some of the less Google favorite sites like her pages are article cites, it could be hard to determine how competitive the sites are without doing a little bit more research. So to do this, we need to look at the top ranking websites, pay drink and page authority. 28. Lecture 30: Understanding Page Rank and Page Authority: before we get into how to find a Web pages paid drink and page authority, let's talk about exactly what those terms mean. Starting with pay drink. This is a number that is assigned by Google, and it's based on a scale of 10. Now. You may have heard some debate within the S E O community about how much weight pay drink really holds in search engine optimization these days. But I have found that this is still a good way to determine how easily you're going to be able to rank for specific keywords. So new sites will start out with a page rank of zero, and they will build their way up from there. Although pay drink changes very slowly, many authoritative sites have a PR of four or five or even higher, but even a four and five are considered very good. One of the reasons I recommend you avoid keywords where the top rankings are held by sites like Amazon. Wikipedia etcetera is because they have a pay drink of eight and nine, and Google attempts to favor those sites even if the specific Web pages that they are listing in search results don't have other S e o elements in place that you and I may need to have. As I previously mentioned, Google definitely considers a sites brand, but it more so focuses on the individual page authority. This doesn't apply as much to the bigger sites that I just mentioned. But if you see other websites with an authoritative home page, but that particular page that ranks does not have much authority by itself, that's okay. And that's still a good sign that you can outrank that particular page. Now Pay drink is a good indicator, but it doesn't get updated too often. And that's why it's good toe Look at page authority, which is updated more frequently. This is another indicator of how much authority the site has in the eyes of Google. Hey, drink is measured by Google, while Page authority is measured by another tool that will look at next when researching a sites Page authority and pay drink. You're looking for low page authority in low pay gering, which is a sign that you can outrank the Web page if you're targeting medium or higher competition keywords. Having a few home pages with a higher page authority or pay drink is actually OK as you'll still be able to achieve the top 10 rankings. Now. Domain authority is something that I haven't mentioned yet, but it is worth taking into consideration now. Domain authority is what I've hinted about so far. And as you can probably guess, domain authority refers to the entire websites authority. In the eyes of Google, this is important to consider. But ultimately, page authority is definitely more important to consider because, as I mentioned, Google is going to rank those individual of pages and not the entire website. So let's take a look at how to find this information quickly. 29. Lecture 31: Free Tools to Find a Webpage's Page Rank and PA & What You're Looking For Here: There are two free tools you can use to find a Web pages page, authority and page rank the best two that I like to use our called mas bar and S E O Quake , which are both browser extensions that you can install for free once you install the extension. If you don't see these little information on bars here below each search result, then just refresh the page or even just close and reopen your browser and they should appear. Now I'm gonna look at the first few results, and here you can see the page rank on the S e o Quake Bar. And right now this particular page has a pay drink of zero looking down at the Amazon. The pay drink for this page is a six. That's rather high. The following one of three. Now I can go back and look at page authority as well. For the first search result, there's a 67 followed by a 62 and a 48. So let's talk about these numbers a little bit. I like to see low page ranks thes air, typically 012 Sometimes even a three are all good signs now for page authority. I typically don't want to target anything over about 40 or so. I can rank keywords with a higher page authority, But initially I'm looking for some quick wins, so I want to keep these numbers relatively low. You can also see the domain authority here in the MAS bars. Well, so you can see have 88 97 86. So these are all very, very strong sites. You can see that most of them here I have a zero for the page rank, which is good, but that's followed by a pay drink of six three back down to 00 another six. But then when I go back up and I look at the page authority, even though this one has a pay drink of zero, it does have a page authority of 67 a domain authority of 88. That's pretty high. 67 is getting up there. That's not something I usually like to mess with, especially if I'm trying to target Ah, quick win Going down again. I have a 62 in a 97 of 48 in 86 59 47 85. So you can see this particular pages looking pretty competitive. And they have a lot of authoritative sites here with, ah, hype A drink with, ah, high page authorities. So this is a key word I'm probably gonna want to scratch off my list and just move on. Now, if I go back to my hair mask recipes example, I can see right off the bat. I have a hug pages, website, ranking number one. That is a good sign that I would be able to rank relatively quickly and easily for this keyword, Of course, assuming that this has good search volume, which I haven't double checked at this point, but I have a PR zero to start off with. For some reason, this is not listed on the page authority or domain authority. So this may be something going on with the bar, or it just may not have any page authority. It's hub pages. I also have a page rank of nothing. Here. I have a one of three. So as you can see, this should be a relatively easy keyword to rank for. But I'm gonna double check what's going on with this mas bar here. I'm gonna select another key word here Must recipes to grow hair. Now, here I have a PR three, but it has a page authority of 37. That's a good sign. I have a page. There's no page rank here and on Lee, a page authority of one. I have ah page authority of 15 18 1 46 37. So, as you can see, these are all very low. So this is a good sign, assuming have already checked the search volume. And I'm happy with that. This is a good sign that the top rankings have both at lower pay drink in a very low page authorities. So this is a key word that I can expect to rank for relatively easily. 30. Lecture 32: What Do Backlinks Have To Do With Keyword Research?: The last piece of analyzing our keyword competition has to do with back Ling's now back wings are the number of links from other websites that point back to the Web page. We want to rank. This is so important to look at because back links or one of Google's top criteria for deciding which Web pages to rank, Google has to figure out which websites provide good, useful information for visitors. So how can they determine that without sitting down and reading every Web page sites linked to other sites or pages? Because they feel they can offer something of value to their readers. So in essence, the more links the better. Now this has been abused by spam es CEOs, and Google is getting smart. They know that a website with a handful of really good quality links is better than a website that gets links from a bunch of spammy low quality sites. This means it's important to see how many links your competitors has, where those links are coming from and the quality of the websites that they're coming from . If something looks suspicious, you can probably outrank it with good quality back clings, but you're gonna want to use your best judgment here 31. Lecture 33: Analyzing Backlinks to Determine How Quickly You Can Rank a Keyword (Free Tools): So how do we go about finding out how Maney Back Ling's our competitors have? Although there are many tools you can use to help you find this information, there are a couple of free tools that will give you this information quickly. The 1st 1 is Mas Bar that we already looked at right from the search page. You can see the number of links, the Web page house. So let's look at this DSLR camera search that I had done before. You can see on the very first search result here. There are almost 15,000 links pointing to this particular page. The 2nd 1 has over 8000 links pointing to that particular page. The third result on Lee has 26. The 4th 1 has 60 113 3100. So you can see for the most part, the Web pages that a ranking on the first page here have thousands of links pointing to them. So to see what's going on, I can click on the links, and this is gonna open. MAS is tool called open site Explorer. This is going to share the number of links that it has now. You'll notice over here. Two things. One. It says that there are seven route domains and there are 14,000 942 total links. That means that all of those 15,000 links are on Lee coming from seven different domains. That's not very diversified, but scrolling down. You'll be able to see which of the pages are linking to this page. You can see here a spam score. You can also see the page authority and the domain authority of those external websites so that more domains that are linking to a site, the better off that site is, and also hi, Paige Authority and high Domain Authority sites are good places for back lings, so you can use this information to see how good or bad the links are that this particular Web page has. So this will give you some information without registering for the pro version 32. Lecture 34: Analyzing Backlinks With Premium Tools: a HRH EFS is another good example to use. You can enter a u R L here. Now this one is for my hair mask recipes. Example. Now you'll see right off the bat. It says there are 6600 back lings and over 100 and 53 domains. But if you look up top, I have selected for the domain and any page with on that site. So I want to look on Lee at the exact you are out. Because again, Google is only looking at that particular Web page, not the entire site. So that takes it down to 20 back Ling's with only 16 referring domains. So this is more realistic. This is going to give me a better idea of what I would need to do. As far as back wings are concerned, toe outrank this site. So if I go back to my hair mask recipes search in Google, I can see here. The 1st 1 has 55 links, followed by zero links, three links, 28 links, zero links, 41 links so you can see the number of links is relatively low. That tells me I have a good chance is well, toe outrank these Web pages. If you decide to sign up for SCM Rush, you will be able to access all of this information there as well. The S E o Quake extension. You installed pools of back ling information from SCM Rush so you can use this tool to get the same information as well. ECM Rush also has a back lane comparison tool so you can compare to competitors, sites or even a competitors site against your own to see how you stand against competitors . As far as back links are concerned, that's a really neat feature. Taking the time to analyze your competition doesn't take too much time, but it is such an important step in analyzing the key words you want to rank for. After doing research on your keyword competitors, you can feel confident that you are targeting key words you can actually rank for 33. Lecture 36: So Your Keyword Research Is Complete. Now What?: congratulations. You are now a keyword research expert. You see, it's not that hard, is it? Don't get me wrong. Keyword research is time consuming, and it definitely can be frustrating. But there is no better feeling than going into an S e o campaign with confidence because you've put forth the time to do proper keyword research. Now, you know you can rank for these keywords, and soon you'll start seeing the results. It's time to start with on Page S CEO, which includes analyzing your new competitors to see what they are and are not doing in terms of on page optimization. So you know how you can outrank them. I hope you've all it along with me and now have at least a handful of solid keywords you'll be moving forward with. Now it's time to get ranking
