1. Intro portrait skillshare 00: Hello, everyone. My name is Magic Nikos, Um for the recapture end for the shop instructor, I am coming to you with these skin retouching course on professional portrait retouching. I'm not going to show you horrible image that I'm going to turn into a beautiful image. But I'm going to show you the right work on the well done image I started with days. That was the image after row conversions. So at first Inro conversion insurgency, I was fixing up the color. So for sure, we're going to talk up about broken version and then we're going to jump in tow, photo shop and fix everything that it was not really right on this image. And we're goingto bring Keep some natural. Look off course. I'm going to show you how to do clean up and how to work with Dutch and Bell. You can see the layers first. Of course, we going toe start with their cleanup. In the next step, I'm going to show you how to do dodge and burn. How toe off course. After that, bring up the contrast and of course, shadows and lines. And we're going toe and a with some really natural skin sharpening. So if you're looking for the right techniques for your portrait retouching these classes something you cannot means it's quick, I believe, well explained and was the best. You're going to get some actions to speed up your workflow. So if you're looking for some portrait retouching clans, that doesn't last hours. This class is something you really need. See you in the first lesson. 2. Raw Skillshare Portrait 01: in the first lesson, I'm going to show you how I dio basic rule conversion for portrait retouching. So let's go through file and browsing bridge to find our image already opened the images I want to work with, and I'm going to choose this portrait, just personal preferences. I think it's really looking amazing. So it will be pleasure to work with that, isn't it? So I'm going to open this and worth mention all of these images. Outer off this images is less. Yeah, Lehman. So link will be in the description. You can check her images, and you can find a lot off her images on, for example, model mayhem, where you can find a lot off raw images for retouch. I recommended this one. They're well made, and it's great to start with this. So let's open the image in camera. Oh, I'm going to start with this one, and it's opening right now in Camero, and you can already see that zoom this just a little bit. I really like how these image looks like, and the first thing I don't want to really change the colors off this image, but I want to make something that will be easy toe retouch for me, there is not that much to do. So I just want to play a little bit with maybe shadows and highlights something that will make my future retouching photo shop a bit easier. I usually bring up just a bit of shadows. It announced me to see later on beat more details and the same thing I could do with blacks . It wouldn't be necessarily on this image, but let's do this. And also the highlights are not so visible. But I would go down with lights. Why I'm doing this cause all of these things I'm going to improve later and photo shop. So I don't like to work with really high contrast and you can actually see that in high contrast IQ images is going to help you when you're going to knock down some of the shadows you're going to see on beat More in details on the image later to work with about temperature off course, you're going to set your personal preference for the final look off the image. I'm not going to change this much. I really like the way it was looking about this it's still quite warm. It's still having some nice look, maybe a big lower I built. If it was maybe just a beat, who warm and around this it has really nice and warm look, So I'm I will be working with this thing. Think to mention I never sharpen the image in camera. This is the thing you always then for the shop. Also, if you prefer toe, sort out some of the saturation and luminous opened the hue saturation Luminant Zgray sco panel And you can play with these arrival here whether we want to bring up some of the saturation on reds, which I would not really recommend because it can cause you only some troubles. Orange is the same whether you prefer to make the image a bit warmer. In this case, I could go maybe a little bit with this a little between yellow. However, I don't want these to look too yellowish. I'd prefer to keep this as natural as it is, so that would be some basic step luminous. Of course, you can bring some lights on specific areas you like. I don't want this leaks. Maybe Bryant or could be a big brighter. So I'm going to bring up and something lines here for other and think them down from the face. So if I think down the oranges, the general look off, the image will be a bit warmer and this is the direction I really want to follow. After this, we can go back. Check if everything is correct. Contrast. Not something you set up over here and then we can go and start our work in photo shop. What I recommend is to press shift toe open image as an object. Also, you can open it over here when we have information. Prophet RGB We always work in Prophet Org Beat the biggest color space if you don't have. If you didn't set prop foot RGB changed right now and start working with Prophet allergy. Be any kind, said the box here opening fourth shop. A smart object. Why I'm opening as a smart object and present shift and opening as a smart object because it's giving you possibility off re editing later things in Camero if you feel there is something to fix, so that would be our start and we can put this to the group I will call this image. And if you feel a need off re added in this image, I would just duplicate this smart object. We have to heat right and choose new smart object me a copy. That's very important. You cannot copy this us regular image. And now I can see the face is way to read comparable to the background. And it could be my fault what I did before. So we're going to check this. I'm going toe open this in Camero. Let's see what I did with the separation. And probably that was the reason I pull it up and I shouldn't probably do this. So now I'm going to just to take these down from the face. The justice to the rest of the body are taking down for and now will be a beat. More on just that. I'm going to see how luminous is going to work. Also, I'm goingto bring it back on the face. So the bond over here keep the colors from here and from this image, I'm going toe Get back. What? I lost on the face when I want to fix now. Just Okay, Let's see. It looks like so colors way better right now. But what I'm going to do, I'm going to create Lay a mosque here and I'm going to Kovar in black color this area over here. So thanks to days, everything once on this layer will be available once again with black color The release Everything we paint on the layer mask with black color is invisible. Just going toe. Get the good things I want and we'll have a look. The colors on the face are not that orangey. However, the colors on her chest are much off much more lives. So right now, as you can see, we unjust id these two things and we're ready to start our work in photo shop. 3. Clean up Skillshare 02: after we got the photo shop. First step we need to do in me to do basic clean up on the image to do basic clean up. I'm not usually I'm not trying with any specific techniques. I'm creating empty layer and I'm going to call this clean up and I recommend you to work this way. Believe me when I say any fancy techniques don't give you any better results cause cleanup is a simple process where we need to remove some basic models, some pimples, and I find it for the best way is just to sort it out on empty layer. Thanks. Time to layer. We work non destructively and here as a sample, I have said current below and how my work about the skin. I usually work with healing brush tool. And of course I'm setting up really hard edge. It brushed. Why I'm sitting hard. That is brush because I don't want to blow her out the skin, and I don't want to destroy the skin texture. Working with the heart brush gives you this possibility to not destroy skin texture that much, and the first thing we would have toe do. Of course, is removing and spots, and usually if you retouch for someone else, remember to ask people if they want tohave moles removed right, the one on the forehead and the moles over here, I feel for missing it. This is something I don't want to keep. So we're going to start with the most, of course, and I'm going toe remove them. How the healing brush works is when we press out we taking a clone of the texture, and when we paint on the mall, it's getting the texture from other area. Energize the colors through the area that's around, so it allows you really toe clean the skin nicely without changing the colors around. And this is my favorite tool to the basic clean up. Of course, we have a lot of smaller sports that, but first could be not that visible. But when we zoom this in, we can see also a lot of the small peoples, so bento clean this very quickly. If you cannot see this very well, I can give you some recommendation. You can just create curve layer on both and take them some of the darkness and then just bring up the high line skirt to see a bit more details, and then you can keep retouching again. You can see the skin texture is much more visible, and it's way easier for us to find the sports to retouch. I'm not using clone Stamp some off. You mind being quiet, not using closed on because clone stamp. In this case, I'm not on the copying the texture from the other place but also copied the color So it's way easier to work with him and brush it, adjust the color still there to the area around. So you just much easier for our work. I'm going to do this quickly because there is no reason to talk for all this time, so you know what to do. You know which spots we need to remove. I'm going to remove the small little spots that are not the skin pores. Remember, we not removing the skin pores, we only removing their spots that doesn't belong to orginal skin. And the sentence that I have to say. I heard this, probably from some re toucher. We need to make the person to look us. The person looks in the best. They off their life, so I don't want to make plastic person. I just want to make a natural person with real skin, and that's it. So let me speed up this video, and I'm going to talk to you person in another lesson. 4. Clone stamp 03: Okay, I believe you could have another question to me on if I use clone stamp toe anything and the answer is off course. Yes, for crunch stamp, I usually said of the harness on zero. Make it very soft and also the flow off the crosstown brush I put on 30% I believe. Yes, that might be a bit confusing the flow pretty much. It's about how much that color, something you can you going to put in the stamp. So it's only 30%. That's a very simple speaking because, of course, I want to give you some information without wasting your time. And if I have edges like that and some of the her on the edges are really visible, I just like toe, take a clone and sort this out softly with constant that way. Come easily. See, it makes small difference. But how nice differences that So that's for what I used to use from stamp in cleaning up the face off course. They sort of her we can have around the leagues off course, this sort off her we can have around the leagues, etcetera. But in this case, of course, better to be very careful because if we're going to those too much texture, it's not going to look very nice. Us you can see on actually this example. I'm going to the step back, zoom in, take down the flow into even lower one into softly, even out of her just a little bit here. Felt putting too much pressure just a little bit. Let's see. Okay and no So around the face, a lot of this her exist. So this is the last spot I do right now for this image. Of course, I'm not going to retouch the her because it's really good to keep them natural in the courts of the image. So I'm just going to sort this out quickly around the face. And even though I'm retouching this even though probably in some online page, these details would be not visible. But of course, we can talk of a destination of the image to print in. That's why I prefer to sort out these her around. So thanks to that our customer are your image will not have some distracting details that you'd prefer to forget after so it's always better spent one minute more clean this up. Just few last moves over here. And that will be then. Okay, it's I consumed this out. Check just the edges. If I think it's nice disorder, it's not off course. Few more fixes and that would be so. That's our cleanup. I have some of the evil hair over here. I'm going to use human brush for it. You could use also, in this case, this soft clone stamp. But it would even out a bit of the skin texture. And I don't want to lose that. So okay, as you can see on the chest on left, some of the malls that would be very suitable. And now we're ready to move toe. Another step, the most difficult, So better pay attention to it. 5. Db portrait 04: Once you finish cleaning up off the image, there is a time to go in tow. Dutch and Ben Process and I'm going to show you curve adjustment layer technique. I find these the easiest one, the technique that going to give you a lot off comfort, a lot of flexibility and a lot of comfort control, naturally, and a bit off theory Once that and burn, that's in bird, um, means to Dutch image brighten up and toe, burn the image dark and up the image. And about that in Bern retouching is we going toe pet on this little dark and white spot to even them out. And that's proof. Professional retouching. Of course, it takes some time for the portrait. Maybe I would say how have an hour for me right now, So the more you're going to protest them more comfortable, you goingto feel about this technique. So that was just a very quick introduction, and I want to show you how I work with this. I'm going toe open toe curve adjustment layers. One of this layer I'm going to call Dutch and the other one I'm going to call Burn for that one off course, we need to bring up some of the lights, some Grameen, the curve unjust mint layer and bring in these up just a little bit. There is no reason to pull this up too much the same about bird off course, not the same. But we pulling this down in this case just at that point to make it a bit dark. I'm going to invert these layer mask to make it invisible and for Dutch and burn what we will be doing. I'm going to show you if I want. Tobe brightened up the image. I'm going to paint on Dutch layer and as you can see what happens to the image, I'm just bright and in days up. I believe it's super simple. Of course, it's not something I want to achieve right now, but showing this way will be easy for you to understand and darkening were playing this one thing I need to tell you off course, you will not be working with 100% flow, but 1% So this is the first thing and also don't press two months when you do that and very the thing to not issue need. Vatican tablet That gives you pressure. Sensitivity. I believe I said this. Um right. So you can have comfort off retouching the same way as you painting. So if you don't have welcome tablet, I recommend you toe get this. Then you're retouch, will be weaker and you will have much more comfort working with that right now, we cannot see all of the details dance. Why? For dodging and burning. I usually create hell player. I go to hue saturation and taking down all of the saturation. If I don't see it right, if it's still too bright for me and I cannot see all of the details, I'm darkening the image. So I'm doing this for curves just darkening this image as you can see, much more details visible. And then if it's still not enough for me, I'm bringing up some contrast. You can do this by curves or levels. It's really up to you. Do they still the level? You're going to feel comfortable and you're going to see all of the details the way you want. I'm going to call the dark and the other careful earlier I'm going to call contrast and the hue saturation layer I'm going to call Brief and Abdul. Don't worry if you cannot follow creating this or you think it's ways off the time because I prepare for you actions. Whether it's Dutch burn or this help player, you're going to get them with the actions. And I really find mention to not put too much pressure when you do dance and burn, because when you do too much pressure might appear slightly right shifts on the image. It doesn't happen that often, however. It can really happen. So what to do In such a case, you can create hue saturation layer. Take down some of the saturation for the Dutch and above burn. Bring Absalom of the saturation. Then you can just simply keep this layer into the touch layer. But it, of course, when the shifts appears. Or just use my actions that ready made in the group's When those actions, that's layer and burn layer that already in the group, as you can see and for Dutch, of course, I brighten the image, and I decided, rate put the separate layer all above of these to the group, and of course, I create a layer mask to invert this later, so I would recommend you toe use this one for this sort off retouching. After you prepared this, we can start finally the win retouching for Dutch white color of the brush flow 1% soft edged brush. Don't worry, I created for use off the edge it breath So you can just down on these together with this class and then you find the sports that shouldn't be part of this image in that has to be the best looking portrait ever and paint off this part that has to disappear. I believe this is not so complicated, especially for these image. We don't have that many sport. However, it's difficult to count them even if I bring up the contrast, so it can just make it even stronger. But I believe you. You can see them, the dark spots that we need to go. And that's one way to do this. If you want to see this or, much more clear can just play with this layers, duplicate them more, and as you can see right now, we can see a bit more vetoes for Dutch. I'm painting all of these dark spots that's supposed to not be here. There will be one exception. If, for example, you have freckles on the image, remember that freckles are not. It's not something that you should remove or paint on. Eventually you could improve by burning the freckles. But it's not something we Brighton enough because it's I'm not going to look nice. We want to keep such a specific things like freckles and some really nice. Most. I often keep them like this one, and I'm going to burn this just a little bit. Course um, off the forehead. Wrinkles not necessary. I can just make it smaller with this technique, and soon after I do a few of the steps, some of the painting you will be able to spot the difference. This image has very great skin to be difficult and already see for a small difference. So I will be continuing the world well. I achieved the result. I will be happy about this. People wrinkles around the mouth. You, Steve, is good to keep them. I don't like them that strong, so I'm just going to paint on it to make it a bit soften to knock down the shadows on it. so face going to look and beach. I'm a bit younger. Soften. We can split the difference now it's amount before after. So that's the one. Think you toe door, Really? You need to paint on this areas. I believe I spot them really correctly for you. Around the leaps, there is often a beat. Too dark. As you can see, I have some of the really a lot off work here. You cannot see clearly, just some turn off the dark and and that's how I work. So you can money believe with the help players on to create something that will be really visible for you. It's gonna change for this image. We could do flow 2%. I'm usually not going higher than and then 3% above trippers and I usually keep this 12%. So now, as I believe, I talk a lot because I'm trying to explain you a lot, I can speed up this video and I'm going to talk to you once again after I finish. And we're goingto talk about how to contour and bring of the contrast for the image. That's right. Now, of course, you can see the process how I do Dutch and burn because I'm just not going toe turn off recording but jazz going to speed this up till the end. 6. Portrait Contours 05: if you're into retouching, probably you heard about global touching burn. And in this lesson, we going to do something like that. We're goingto contoured imagery goingto bring up the contrast. But what's best, what I'm going to show you We've got about that and burn many people actually don't use that anymore, I believe is that you can destroy the contours of the face. So the technique I'm going to use right now will not destroy the contours. We're going to just slightly bring up the contrast off this image. How am doing this? I'm going to channels and I'm making selection from a blue channel. Why? Because the blue Channel actually has the lowest wrench off the white collar. There's not that much of the blue color. And it nicely countered the face that would be ever simply speaking. And for days I'm going to use the curves. What I'm doing in this first step, I'm just going toe grab the curve here on the highlight, and I'm going to bring this up on the highlight. And, yes, you can see I improve the highlights and I actually kept the same shadows off the meat. And now I'm going to change blending mode to luminosity. Because if I wonder, this actually brings up too much off the saturation right now. Let's have a look on the image. Of course not days. 17 for dad. And in case if that would change the background too much. I was actually paint around the face on this mask, but I can say it wasn't necessary for this. So I'm going to call this lines, and right now I will do another selection. But I will see if I'm not going to take this, for example, from another channel. Because the wrench of blue could be too big that I think I will go with blue. That will be suitable for battery means. But I recommend you to have a look first. Okay? And now curves. And I'm going to do similar. Think this time with the shadows and pay attention to what I'm doing. I'm only taking the down the shadow area over here. I'm going to call the shadows. I dark in the background too much in this case to darken this much. All right, so what I'm going to do, I'm going to see that mask. I'm going to paint with black color on the background because I don't really want to darken this background. So it's going to amount of this around here. I was here. How how it will look with the hair because if her defected, okay, every that, actually contours that faced nines a bit more scream toe minds of the hair over here because I don't want to dark and her but what I want. I want toe Onley contour the face. I'm trying to find their right place for it and that's it. I relying the way it looks now before I believe the her word too dark. So let's put this into the group, the lines and shadows. We're going to call this contrast, and now I can have a look before and after the contrast are really strong. The highlights are strong shadows. I didn't bring up that mind, so it's OK. Eventually, the highline spent to take down just a little B before and after, and I really love the way it looks right now. And you have to say that's extremely simple thing. Toe pull up The contrast. It's still natural, its dynamic and what's most important. It's non destructive for the image 7. FInal Portrait SKillshare 06: in the last Tyson off course, We going to do some final things. I want to keep this natural. So I'm just going toe sharpen the image. And, of course, the proper being. What will be to do here is toe scrub the image. Of course, this area doesn't look as it's supposed to, but let's start from sharpening and sharpen. I create our stamp on the top first, so press outer command control or option shift and E to create a stamp once again in my case. So this one layer I'm going to call lower and I'm going to duplicate this once again and this layer I'm going toe sharpen. This technique gives me a lot of control on the sharp, and it's really precise. So I would like to do this and let's go to the floor first. I'm going to even some this image maybe, and filter Blower and Governador this actually Simula toe frequency separation, though in this case I blew out justice skin a little bit to blow out the skin texture. So I said radius has extremely soft. Then he'd okay and then I go to sharpen and same way us in frequency separation image apply image and for 16 bit image layer is as our blower as a source. Of course, the landing will be on a scale to offset zero, and these books checked, and you should see very soft contours of the face. So that will be the area that we actually going to sharply limit for eight bit image blending instead of ad will be subtract and bogs. One be selected. The invert one be checked scale dough and offset 128. If you feel confused. Don't worry, because you will get an action for that just as the action over here. Now I can remove the blue layer. I can go to sharpening and just change blending more in tow. Lena Light. This image is sharpen right now. Quite strong. However, I prefer something that gives me a bit more control. So I'm going to create layer mask involved this layer mask and from the channels I'm going to choose. Channel Dunn's actually sharp and mostly the face, but will not sharpened leaps. Too much cause already sharpen really a lot. So I think I want to use China red in this case, but I would use Channel green to do selection Channel Green. Our channel blow will be good choice and then I just goingto press control or command and I to invert these on layer mask. And thanks to this, I will have really nice and natural sharpen off the skin texture. So not really nothing more is really need that eventually my lips are a bit harsh. So I'm going toe clean the sharpen from the leaps. That would be really one thing I would do with that image. That's again. I spent over the leaves to take down the sharpened. And that would be the final result that I really like hand of course, the final crop. So I use ratio 2.3. Just for this image will be proper size. And of course, minuto. Careful to crop this natural way, I could someday salad for beat at, Of course, cropping subject of cropping naturally belongs to you. I will not be affecting your decision because I have no rights to do that. And okay, it was in this in a little bit more to set the right perspective. So that's it. That would be something like that. I could make crop. This just a little bit more over here, and that would be the perspective I I really like. Let's have a look crop and that's our final result. Actually, I don't resigned this crop, so yeah, let's try again. I wasn't expected that Miss Crop looks and be Dow from you. She don't want toe keep underwear visible. I'm going toe on dance this a bit more, but that way let's have a look right now. I believe it will be nicer and this crop smart better. That's our image before, and that's after this short process. Skin looks much cleaner. We don't have this and want the channels keep the natural look and yeah, that's the process. I do. And I believed you enjoyed this short class on retouching. I tried to put as much information as I could in a short period of time, and I believe I'm going to talk to you once again in my another for the shop class. Thank you.
