About This Class

Producing EDM (Electronic Dance Music) poses unique challenges and often warrants the inclusion of the production track into the writing process.

In this 50 minute class, producer/writer Boris Berlin examines his track Robot Funk. You will learn how to prepare and execute programming and production, and how to take advantage of preparation and a well-organized workflow.

We will discuss different ways of creating contrast and dynamics to keep the momentum exciting.

Very clearly presented; good illustrations of the ease of using different items of software together; inspiring to see an approach of "anything goes" and not being inhibited by rules.
I totally agree with Boris that the "grove" set the tone.
Not only this class is informative and helpful, but Boris also keeps it entertaining. Each segment is easy to digest, understand and implement. Awesome class, I highly recommend it!

Boris Berlin

Songwriter, Producer, Film Composer

Hi! My name is Boris Berlin, and I’m a songwriter, producer, film composer and multimedia artist originally from Berlin but transplanted to vibrant New York City to pursue my creative dreams. After several years of working for NY-based music production houses, I’ve gone completely independent working mostly from my own project studio. The digital revolution has brought so many amazing tools to our fingertips that it’s an incredible time to be a freelance artist.

My music has appeared on records, compilations, single releases, tv & radio advertising commercials, movies and games. I write and produce a lot for film and multimedia these days, and release records under my own name and pseudonyms.

New tools allow us to experiment and achieve awesome soundscapes, creating new worlds by colliding old ones. One can consider the creators of the many softwares and virtual instruments the silent collaborators. These tools shorten the gap from imagination to manifest soundwaves. Traditional style or genre classifications are outworn stereotypes. We can and should be merging all influences now, into a unified whole. It's a privileged time to be a creative.
