In this class you will learn how to illustrate a landscape in Procreate.

You will be using the iPad and apple pencil. In this class you will learn key concepts in painting landscapes. As well as how to use the app Procreate and apple pencil to create this illustration.

This class is for everyone how wants to paint easy, fast, and comfortable, without needing brushes, color paint, or any other tools required in real painting. You can sit at your desk, in bed, even in the bus or train! Practically, you can take the iPad everywhere, on each occasion the inspiration hits you!

1. Welcome: Hi, my name is George, and in today's course, you will learn how to illustrate this beautiful islands with trees and water in procreate on the iPad. For this, you will need the Apple pencil, the iPad, and the procreate app. This is a very good course for beginners because you will learn everything you need to know about the app in order to create this beautiful illustration and even more, you will learn about color harmonies and how to create your own color pallets. You will be encouraged all the way through on how to draw this illustration on different layers and how to create different textures to give each three, each part of the illustration at different feeling. Don't worry if this is your first illustration. Just pick up the pencil and start the course. With that being said, let's just jump into it. Thank you so much for being part of this community. 2. Color palette: Hello and welcome. Let's create a beautiful new Canvas. You will need a chord, 12 layers, a-squared Canvas. In my, on the iPad, 10.2, this is 4 thousand by 4 thousand pixels. Once you've created the canvas, you can now go to colors. Let's create a new palette by clicking the plus. And if you want, you can also just about see how to add colors. Let's delete this one by default. Once you go to values, not harmony, two values, you can now see it's over there, underneath. You can now start to create a very dark brownish color. Just playing with the sliders and just going over there. Very darkish brown towards the red. And put it first over there. You can now start to play around with the Hue. Make it a little bit more yellow and saturated. Make it a little bit more saturated and more towards the brown. Look at how beautiful this brown is. Orangey brown, a more reddish brown just over there. It's very important to create these color palettes. If you don't want to get a photo on the course where you can just basically drag the picker, uh, color picker and have your palette just over there. But it's very important to know how to change and create colors. This time just going a little bit lighter, a little bit more towards the yellow and putting in colors. So you've created a five-step palette of colors. Now six, it's very autumn inspired pellet. Now you can go into the green. At the top, you'll find the wheel, well the line, slider, width, all the colors and the same, doing the same with the greens. Just putting them, making a very dark green, just going and making it over there. And with the green it's going to be something special. Just making it a little bit lighter than more green and a little bit changing it to have a little bit and to that color going even more. And putting it there can also see my moving the sliders. You can change the hue a little bit more. Just changing it a little bit more, making it a little bit brighter, can see how beautiful that green is. And then changing it towards the blue at the bottom. One. You can see that we've put, this is where it's different, a little bit more different. The colors. We are now changing it to become darker as you go along. Yes. And then a lot bluer. So we have warm and cool towns of green. You can see just a few. Pit will be enough. As you can see, tweet as almost enough. Let's put them right next to the other green. Let's select them and put them towards the green. As you can see, they go very well together. You now have six different kinds of greens. This ballot is not exactly the pilots we are going to use because we're going to do a lot of color harmony. And I know it sounds complicated, but it's a fairly simple process. Just tweaks and changes to make the painting even more complex. The illustration even more complex. For the blue's, a dark blue, lighter blue, and uneven lighter blue. Just like that. And I'm not a one just lighter. Course. And those are the colors over here. Let's make another very light yellow, gray. Just over. Dare put it right next to the orange, right next to the brown. And then maybe it should be a little bit darker. Yes, let's go into the dark. Those are very important colors. And probably it's due grey. Let's make it a little bit more saturated, as you can see, set. And you have now created a very beautiful palette. And it's quite perfect. 3. First tree: Let's just select the darkest green on there. And let's do textures. And this is the lake, I believe. Yes. It's called Greenland. Greenland. You will find the colors over here and just checking to see if I can find a brush, a better brush, but that we're gonna go with growing it greenlit, no, dog-like. Okay. Now leg is much better for Textures. Okay, so let's select the beautiful texture brush. You will find this under textures and then dove like. So very, very beautiful texture color. And with this color checked and beautiful brush and putting in just the texture of a brush, let's create a Beautiful Shaped, keep it very abstract. Keep in mind that this brush, once you overlay, Once you pick up the pen, it creates, it goes over with another layer of paint, making it darker and thicker, making the paint, let's say, thicker and darker. Going in with some lighter color on the right-hand side of the three. Just like that. Absolutely wonderful. And then with the lighter green just over there. And as you can see, the three layers of paint, three layers of color have been created. Going to painting and dry brush. This is with the eraser and making it very small. You can go in and edit the shape of the tree. Now it just looks like three bulbs, three round shapes. And you can break it down to make it feel more organic. And this dry brush has the effect of very, very nicely doing some leave textures, leaf textures. You can play around with the shape as well to steal racing a little bit. Don't be very attached to the shapes because you can always go back in with the outer colors and put them in. A few moments. You can see the shapes. It's cleaning it up, making it very, very, very broken up. And then of course, as mentioned previously, selecting the darkest color, going again, already selects the DOF leg. Can go over a little bit just like that. And with the lighter color going over the middle as well. And the eraser just erasing a little bit of the more loose parts of the tree. You can see. The shape of the tree has now become a lot more organic and a lot more scatter just over there. And you can now put in a little bit more at the top if you want. Just break those shapes, have them feel more organic by, by nature of the brush that Blake is very round, so it creates round shapes. Now and they are broken up. You can now select the lightest color with the dry brush now selected. And you can staple some leaves, as you can see. Does stabling, just dabbing little bit of the pen. Don't be very insistent on the glass and this glass and glass breaks. Okay. And then to splitting a little bit more, selecting the other color. Does with the eraser, erasing a little bit of the outside. It is outside shapes. You can now go on to the selection tool, select just the foliage, and now changed the transform. This Stuart, we can make it a little bit longer, little bit bigger, and the wrap tool, lift favorite wrap tool. This is a very, very nice way to just make this shape even more organic. Just like that, as you can see, it just looks so much better. And let's deselect everything and go into the selection tool, removed the colors by dragging them outside of the camps. This makes it them disappear. Selecting a varied the very, very darkest green and inking going to inking and going towards that dry ink, a very beautiful organic ink, going very small, building another layer. And just like that going in for some. And let's make the inking, the ink little bit bigger, making some very small and wonderful branches. As you can see, it started to look like a fork. This is a common mistake. It's because they start on the same side. Now, if you go higher or lower, this mistake can be avoided. As you can see, you can just possession at lower or higher. And it will create a different effect as you can just about see, just by making it higher it now or lower. In this case. It can just create another effects than just looking like a fork. Actually in nature, it happens more often than we think. But in painting and illustration, it looks a little bit awkward because we don't like that kind of a situation. Okay, let's select a lighter tone of green. It says that third one, from the left to the right and going to textures, not abstract painting, okay, dry brush. And we are on. We moved. We move the layer two and we created another layer, layer three and painted some leaves over the branches, just so it seems like name, they're not just overlaid on top. They are part of the three. This will make very beautiful three now going in with a lighter shade of green. And you can also at this stage edit the shapes three. And it just overlays on top of each other, just creating a more two-dimensional effect as much as you can with this illustration style. Keeping everything on separate layers is very handy. You can just now squeeze them up and merge them down. And now this is a tree you can use an any other illustrations. Okay? Now let's go to hue saturation and brightness and make this tree a little bit more autumn feeling. This is the color harmony we talked about. As you can see, it looks to us the little bit more wonder, a little bit more whimsical. Let's add a little bit more saturation, not too much. And just look at how beautiful this tree looks with this color harmony. And this is the first three done. Let's jump into the next step. 4. Bushes: And just like that, we are now onto another step. Let's create another layer. And also just for the sake of being very, very organized there, let's rename this to 31311 are full. And now for the second one, let's name it bushes. And just like that, this is going to be a wonderful way of creating Bush's. You're gonna love this. You're gonna learn a lot of wonderful cloning techniques. Let's go in for the textures. The lake, wander full texture, and just create a beautiful abstract shape of a bush. Bush. Jeff, jeff W, bush, george. Yes, just like that, creating what the worm metal Color and then going in with the dark green over the top. This makes them blend a little bit together, and then over the top with lighter green. And you can now go into the darkest parts, add in a little bit more. You can see how fast the wonderful textures are created and going to devolve Lake and erasing this timeless DOF leg. Probably it's a very useful to the eraser. And it can just about Erase the beautiful marks. Well, DOF leg seems too harsh and seems not to create the leaves that we are looking for, the quality of edges. So let's go into the dry brush and just do as we did to the three. And you can just see how much more organic this eraser is. Then the Don Blake. Blake is very good for creating textures and foliage. And the dry brush is very good for erasing the edges of those textures. Now that the texture is done, we can just move it with the rap, change the shape of it. And as you can see, just drag it and morphing it. Just a little bit more, making those. But she's wonderful and that's flip it horizontal, LEFT_OUT, Alex, horizontally. Yes. Wonderful. Just a little bit more over there. Let's erase a little bit of the excess color around it. And it's just like that. Horizontal, make it a little bit more small. You can see what a beautiful bush this is. George would be absolutely happy with this bush. Now, for the magic, let's duplicate this layer, and now let's go to move it to the left side and hue, saturation and brightness. Let's play around and make a bush that is a little bit more different, has more bluish tone to it. And as you can see, just the saturating playing with it until it feels perfectly balanced. Let's wrap it. Let's distort the size of it. Let's make it smaller. First. Flip side over there, go to the Stuart, make it even smaller. And a little bit like that. Looks perfect. Made it a little bit to around. You can also go and with the eraser and erase a little bit of the shape as well as you can see, making it smaller with two fingers. If you are on uniform, you can just put it anywhere you like. Okay. Just the selecting it. And with the eraser, of course, let's move it a little bit more inside the outer Bush. And now you've created two brushes that are stacked on top of each other. Let's do a lot, a little bit more. Color correction, color harmony, let's say. And they can see a little bit more blue. Let's see how it looks. Just over there. Okay. Now looks just about right. You can play around with the slider until you find a sweet spot and then just make it, just play around with it. Then you'll find just a beautiful place, just beautiful color, harmony. Okay, that looks just about right. Let's see the difference. Yes, looks more interesting. And there you go with the bushes. Let's go in and create even more bushes using this technique. 5. Clone bushes : And now for more magic, let's merge this down and let's duplicate it. And we now have another duplication. We can now flip horizontal to see how it looks. Let's rotate it a little bit and position at just over here. And wrap it a little bit just like that, making it a little bit smaller. Now the shadow is a little bit more onto the lower part, but it doesn't really matter. The shape is quite wonderful. Let's make them smaller. And of course, we need to edit the shapes as well, a little bit more with the wrap tool. Just like that, going n for some hue, saturation and brightness to make this a little bit more, one or full, just make them just playing with the slider of the hue and what the brightness. Just a little bit to see how it looks. Now, it looks quite wonderful. And you can now go in with this merged down. And also you can just about Go into the eraser. You now have the dry brush and just zoom a little bit on them and just erase the shapes just a little bit to make the shape of this bush and more organic and a little bit different than the other one. So it doesn't just look like a cloned Bush. Well, let's not go into conspiracy theories. Just joking. Okay, the painting a little bit more. And let's just select, let's see how it looks. This looks great. You now have a layer that you can use an other illustrations with two different kinds of bushes. 6. Tall trees : Okay, for the next step, let's unselect all the layers. Let's go and put another layer, rename this layer, as it says over here, just 3s, two. Just like that. And of course, select the darkest coup green. And now just go to inking. To select inking, and then go to the top and syrup. This is the syrup brush. Let's make it quite big and a 100% opacity. And just create this wonderful tree, just going down with segmented shapes. Just triangles, just like that. And this is another cool way of creating trees. First adding a full color and then texturing that color on top. And we're going to use alpha lock for the layer. It's going to be super easy and fun. Just create a lot more textures and lot more sections to the three. Just like that. It looks like the crease ministry. And just about there, let's just duplicate this layer. Select it, move it around to create, just flip it horizontally and make it a little bit smaller and completely setup just over here. And go in with the wrap tool and make it a little bit more different. Is the little bit more shaping that three, a little bit more to us like that, making it a little bit more sleep, a little bit more slim, and a little bit more small. And going with that corner, this looks just about right. Now. Let's merge it down. Let's do some magic with the alpha lock tool. And alpha lock tool is just selecting the Delft like texture on the paintbrush and the lighter color, lighter green. Louis down. And alpha log just locks the layer and only where it's painted, it, create it paints over. You can't go outside. The shape, just like that going in with the lighter green, this time with the warmer tone and putting it much more intense at top. Now selecting the other green and layering on top of it. Look at how fast this is. Alpha log is just like magic. Let's do some hue saturation and brightness. Just moving them a little bit more towards the blue, a little bit less saturated. And just like that. Let's do a selection. This is freehand, just going around the small tree and connecting that and doing a hue saturation on this one. Moving it a little bit more towards the blue and a little bit more bright, little bit less saturated. And you now have created a more further away three, and this is a little bit too much. Let's see. Let's go into the Eraser tool and do some texture like and bringing it bigger. Maybe it's too much. Let's see how it looks. It looks like snow doesn't look that good. So we are probably going to undo everything. Now, steel logs to whites for not doing a scene. Okay. Do the alpha lock and go in with the green. Let's see how it is. Once we layer it down, it looks quite a bit more, a little bit better. Let's see. Doing mistake. Mistakes is quite natural. So we can always go back. Do doing a little bit of the undo button. Let's go or the outer tree. And of course, let's go in to hue saturation and brightness. Lets put it more towards the blue. Just like that. Color balance. We can color balance a little bit just making it a little bit towards the purple and a little bit towards the magenta. Well, turquoise and a little bit towards the yellow. Lets go on. Mit downs. Move down towards the, let's see, it's only modifying the background tree and now the front tree as well. And just like that, you can see how nice and started to look to stub out there. Growing to love the texture with, created with the eraser tool. I look much better now, let's see. And this looks at, it looks much better with the color adjustment. And there you go. Let's select all the 3's, all the layers, and just move this behind everything by dragging it down lower. And then now integrated into the layers just like that. Yes. Let's undo everything and make them a little bit smaller because they are going outside of the canvas. The positioning them in this way. And just like that, you have now created another asset you can use in all the illustrations, select the bushes and the threes, and position them little bit lower. And over the utter threes, making the composition a little bit better. You do this by selecting multiple layers and then modifying it as it goes. And there you go with this layer as well. And now we can jump in to the next layer. 7. Grass : Let's just connect the three. The first three you have painted with the drying brush. Just connected lower, Make the bark of the tree just a little bit more uniform. And as you can see, just selecting that color, dark, dark green, and connecting it, making the base of the tree a little bit better. You can start to see and also playing with some more branches. Course. As you always do. If you do a mistake double-tap. To undo. It's a very handy tool, handy way. Let's do smaller branches like that. Making finer branches. As always, when doing branches, try to avoid connecting two branches on opposite side of the same brunch. This will make everything look like a broom or fork as he see demonstrated test over there. And let's make those branches a little bit more long. He can overlap them. And this is very natural. As you can see, going fast, going slow. That three is now almost done. And you can now just about create another layer and rename it to grass. This is a very useful way of creating grass. Just go to Selection and do wonderful selection around and above and below. Just connecting it. If you're not happy with the selection, just do an undo my double tapping. Just try to make it a little bit organic. Should've done it better, okay? And once you're happy with your selection, go into the brush, go straight on to the black, green, to the darkest green, and go in with the dove Lake and just put in the color a few times to have it almost completely dark. Just like that very dark shape. Don't worry if the shape is not perfect. You can always just paint over it. As you can see it going in with a lighter shade of green and uneven lighter one. Keeping in mind to still have the darker green on to the right and left hand side. And now with painting, you can go in to dry brush. And of course, selecting the lightest color, he can just dab it onto the selection and make small little grass patches. Be careful around the edges because this will take the outside colour, which in this case is white, and put it onto the grass. Ok, let's undo the selection. Let's move and shaped this around, making it a little bit more wonderful what the wrap tool. So very useful tool. You'll see once you get the hang of it, you'll start to use it quite a bit. And k, And just like that connecting it, whoops. And just like that, putting it under the 3s. Now going in with the smudge tool and of course with painting, dry brush and connecting that, probably the smudge tool isn't as useful here. So let's go into the brush, dry brush, and the medium that darkest color, the medium color, well, and it's the bolt, some brush marks, some grass over there. As you can see, it's much more useful to do this. And let's cover that shape that we don't like. Don't worry. At this moment, the grasses on top so we can work on it and then we're gonna put it underneath everything. Let's drag a little bit of that grass around. And of course, let's do this small line over here and that's integrated. You can also do some dots just sliding a little bit lower to make the grass look a little bit more grassy. And then just going in for the shapes, we don't like. The edges have been very nice. And selecting the lighter color than lighter green, you can now put in just a few more over here. Just like that. K mean careful not to drag the brush downwards. Drag it either sideways or up. Once you are on the edge, outside, on the top edge. For the bottom edge, it doesn't really matter because It's going to have a very beautiful grounds underneath it. Playing with those edges is very important, breaking them down. So it doesn't seem just like a bottle of water. It seems more grassy. Okay. Just going in for those edges on the left side. You can also do, as you may, as you can see, the, this brush is quite magical because it adds color as well as dragging the color already existing on the canvas. Okay. Let's just add to the middle with the lighter color. Some more grass into the middle of the shape. And just like that, stippling, adds more color. This is a brush that dry brush is very important is to add texture because if you move it around, it just drags, it puts a little bit of color and then drags all the outer color around and it creates lines instead of grass. And just like that, you can start to see this grass looking wonderful and drag it underneath. And then the magic is done. Let's get a little bit smaller by doing distort and make it a little bit more flats a be a little bit higher. This is time to position everything to have it just about right. Just underneath the trees. And there you go, the selection is done. You can also add some hue saturation and brightness. Add some more saturation and move it towards the more autumn like grass. Not as much as the first three, but little bit more than it was. Just a little bit of color balance. And just, as you can see, that's all for this layer as well. 8. Ground: For this step, you're going to need to select every little layer and just move it with a uniform tool. Just make it smaller so you can have a little bit of space underneath the create. The next part of the illustration. Wonderful. Just like that. Now you can start to see, just rename this to go around making another layer and renaming it to ground. Very easy way just as you did with the grass this time, even more easier. Just select underneath and make a very nice rock selection. If you're not happy. Just redo the selection. Just wobbly, wobbly shape. Don't worry too much about it. You can now connect it to the other side. Let's invert it and remove a little bit if you have that. And invert. We've done the selection. Okay. Did some small adjustments and straight onto medium to a dark brown. Okay, let's move. This is not the right tool for the job. Let's go into the textures, dove Lake, and make it very big and start adding just a few textures and then trying to cover all the shape. As you can see, it starts to emerge. Don't worry if it's too straight at the top and this is going to be underneath, and you're going to edit that shape as well. It's on top so you can work on it. Let's make the belt lake smaller and select the second, the third color. This beautiful brown, just like that, putting it as lines, you've made the brush smaller. And now let's select the green just a little bit to make the darkest green to make on the bottom. Just like that, it seems like it's a very dark brown because they combine. And on the top, just selecting the lightest orange brown and putting it just over here. Smaller lines. Don't worry too much about the placement. Just have them on the right-hand side. Think of each section as a beautiful section and have them. You can also go in with a bigger brush, would have bigger brush and uniformly do swipe. And now let's go into a gray. No. Let's go into a lighter white. Yes, perfect. And now you can also select the darkest color, while the medium color, medium brown at it to the corner. And then. Make it smaller and add it to the middle of the shape just on top to separate some spaces where it's darker, where it's whiter. Just make it look more like a rock. Just like that. Making some sections, dividing that color and making it more abstract k. And let's go in and deselect everything. Put it on there. Nice to see how it looks. Looks quite wonderful. Just a few more changes and it's done. Yes, maybe few more then just a few. Let's erase a little bit of the shape we have. We are now on Dove Lake and we are erasing underneath the line that's created just over there. Select a little bit of this darker color and put it underneath what a small dove lake brush just underneath the grass, just like that. And going down a little bit onto the shapes to connect this beautiful color. Building more shapes, going even darker. Just a little bit, just in a few spaces. Whoops. Okay. Fixed. That Undo button is quite magical. Ok. You can see the grass now has a little bit of a shadow underneath it, which makes it even more interesting. Let's select this part of the shape. You can also do this on other parts and erase everything so it has a more beautiful shape. Now underneath here you can see a little bit of white and we are going to make a selection. Going with the brush. Take a little bit of the closest color we can find. And just like that, we can just about take another lighter color going over here. And where the lighter one just over, it looks almost as close as possible. And we can just do some much before the smudge textures. The Blake, of course, our favorite brush for textures. And you can see it's part of the shape right now. Okay. This is a very interesting potato. Well, it's not a potato and it's just grass and ground. Let's select the grass and the ground and make it a little bit smaller. K, select them once again, let's distort it a little bit. Just make them a little bit more straight. And of course, we can add a slight little slant to the shape, just seeing how it looks. And we can also just select them just a little bit. And what the uniform tool first rotating it a little bit and then what the wrap tool, the width, the distort actually. Okay, that's interesting. Just dragging this up a little bit and slanting it, putting it just over there. As you can see, it looks quite a little bit more wonderful if we slanted. Of course, we need to also move these trees a little bit lower so they don't float. And of course, that's all for this step. Just the grass and the ground. Select them once again, wrap it and you can drag it a little bit lower and a little bit up and do a little bit more magic. As you can see, it slides a little bit more to the right side. And that's all for this layer. And let's go into the next one. 9. Lake : Okay, let's do a selection of all the layers and move them even higher.
