Organizational change deals with all aspects of workplace disruptions ranging from new jobs or bosses, to mergers, new clients or work associates, different duties, or even remodeled space. 1. Price You Pay to be YOU Increase Awareness by Clarifying Your Needs & Motivators: this course is about you learning even more about you. The price you pay to be you helps you increase awareness of your personal and professional impact by clarifying your values, needs and motivate. 2. Intro Needs, Values, Motivators IMG 2914: hello, wisdom seeker, the corporate crone here to share insights with you in how clarifying your motivators, needs and values will help you and knowing why you think and behave the way that you do. When you have clarity around your motivators, your needs and your values, you have more power and control over life choices. Research studies affirm that people operate more effectively when they are internally motivated. It's difficult, however, to be motivated in any way, internally or externally if you are unclear about what you value, and it's even more difficulty if you haven't taken the time to figure out what you need or even want unexamined needs. Values and motivators have conscious or unconscious power over the decisions you make and the actions you take. Think about that. The decisions you make and the actions you take are controlled either consciously or unconsciously, by your values, your needs. What motivates you to act? What's happening is you're operating on automatic pilot now. Autopilot is great when you're digesting food or word processing, even using it. Ah, when you drive a car, however, autopilot isn't so good when, and if you're making life choices, think about it as life is similar to basic economics. Although I don't like the term limits. Somehow, though, we are all fairly well limited by the amount of time, energy and money we have to expend done things. So the concept is quite simple, yet not always that easy to integrate into your life. I congratulate you on taking this journey and I wish you luck as you take some time to reflect introspectively. 3. Price You Pay to be YOU Needs, Values & Motivators are Interconnected: needs values and motivators. The three concepts are all interconnected. Understanding one helps you to know more about the other. Two others in your life may be your guide, coach, teacher, manager or mentor, but you are the only one who can motivate you. It's difficult to know what truly motivates you unless you have clarity about what you value. And it's even more difficult to know what you value if you haven't figured out what you need most in life, I repeat for emphasis that on examined needs, values and motivators have conscious or unconscious power over the decisions you make and the actions you take again because it's so important for you to consider. Think that you literally act without thinking when you are unaware of what you need and value, and what motivates you to do what you do when operating on autopilot. You are not conscious of your thinking, and you are unaware of what you need want and what motivates you to do what you do. Let's focus first on needs 4. Needs, Wants, Shoulds Differ: needs and wants and should differ from each other. A major difference exists between what you need for survival in life and what you want, because it makes life better and there's even more difference when you layer on your should . You absolutely need food and water needs air. What is necessary to sustain life. Those things are fundamental to your very survival. You are pretty much aware that your body requires water and food. Sleep Aaron protection from the elements. However, you may want a pizza and a cold drink to satisfy that need. Obviously, something different than pizza and cold drink could take care of your sustenance. Needs wants. Have more to do with enriching your life. You may have a strong craving for something, but it is not essential for your personal well being. Additionally, you can factor in when you want what you want to provide. Even more depth should now should are what you think you ought to do when you govern your life by should, so you're shifting responsibility from yourself to someone or something else. The biggest problem with being should upon is you no longer take personal ownership for whatever it is you should do estimate where you invest most of your time, money and energy at this stage in your life. Is it on your needs, your wants or your shorts? 5. Price You Pay Hierarchy of Needs: humans operate out of unmet needs, according to psychologist Abraham Maslow, who lays the foundation for Motivation theory in a five step psychological hierarchy of needs. The needs at each level usually have to be satisfied before a person can bring his or her attention to the needs off the next step in this hierarchy. Psychological needs, however, do not follow rigid or predictable patterns. It's personal culture. Circumstances and events are unique to you as an individual, and what motivates you to act? Think of Mansell's hierarchy as a pyramid that you move up, starting with meeting your most basic busy a logical needs At the first level, people are anxious if their biological or survival needs. Food, water, air elimination, sex and sleep aren't met. These things happen at different levels for different people, so the levels have levels. Depending on who you are as an individual and what you need, think of how and when you focus your attention. Um, if and when any of thes needs were threatened. Now the second level is about safety and security, including anything from you and your family and property being protected. Ah, having a healthy body or shelter from the elements or security, ranging from living in an orderly and predictable world to having satisfying and stable employment. The third level As you move up this hierarchy is about love and belonging again. This is individual, and it includes your very unique requirements for family, friends, affection, relationships, intimacy and being part of a work group, community or an organization. The fourth level is about self esteem, and it focuses on your reputation, your status, your achievements. It is all about being respected and having a respect for self and others. Some individuals have trouble respecting others because they have little respect for themselves. The fifth level is about self actualization, and it's really in relation to your personal growth and fulfillment. At this level, you're focusing on your potential and seeking peak experiences, appreciating that needs motivate you to act. It is very important for you to know what understand what you value because values are expressions of your needs and wants, and values are what we will focus on next 6. Price You Pay Value of VALUES: consider the value of values values I, your individual beliefs that determine what is right or wrong and influences how you feel. Think it at. It's tied up with what success means to you. Values form the foundation that defines your response and motivators to any given situation . Values are reflected by your needs and wants the gold's. You form the interests you have your opinions and attitudes affecting also aspects of your life. Take time to determine your value system, bringing greater clarity on what you care most about in your life. 7. Price You Pay Project Assign Check Your Credit Cards: this project assignment is fun, quite interesting and really informative. Check out your credit cards, bank statements and calendar, or whatever you use to track your time and money to assess your spending behaviors. This project will help you identify how you invest it. Expend your time, money and energy. It's a window into your values and your motivators. Post on your class project gallery whatever you want to share, as you resolve and record your choices about what it costs you in time, money and energy to be you. You may have similarities with others, and you may be very, very different. 8. Price You Pay MOTIVATORS: what motivates you to act since your needs, values and motivators air all interconnected, You bring greater clarity to your values by exploring your motivators. Motivation is an internal, self generated stimulus. It is a set of processes that moves you toward a goal that satisfies that major, require, want or find useful. It's a combination of the physical energy you expend and your mental attitude. One way to give order to what motivates you is to organize your motivators into categories . The motivation categories helps to expand your understanding off. What moves you to act. What really drives you to take action. Think about what category or categories seem to best describe What motivates you at this time in your life. The motivator categories are achieving affiliating, acquiring, being enterprising or stabilizing. The achieving category is about working on stimulating projects. The affiliating category is about interpersonal contact, comfortable relationships and being part of a group. The acquiring category is about moving up and having more of the traditional symbols of success. The enterprising category is all about self sufficiency and self direction. With the focus on independence, The stabilizing category is all about continuity at work at having time for commitments outside of work. It's that life work balance thing. Which one of these categories best describes what motivates you, or is it a combination of 12 or three or even more? Know what your motivators are? 9. Needs & Motivators Sign Off: Hopefully, this session helped you further clarify your needs, values and motivators with greater self awareness, you're better able to determine if it's worth it to run your life the way you're doing it. Are there things you want to stop, Start or continue at this stage in your life? Are you any closer to knowing if the price you pay to be you is worth it?
