1. Introduction!: Hey, guys, Welcome to this first ever video editing course. My name is Benjamin Ortega, and you know me, as many have been working with, you know, awesome for more than two years now. And we've been making and probably more than 300 videos already. So yeah, a lot of you have been asking for how we actually make those videos. In this course, we're going to see a lot of different topics. We're gonna see years with Softwares. We're going to see computers, everything that is related to what we use and how we actually use it to create the best video we can possibly make. So please come and join us for this amazing course. I hope you guys really like and understand how we make videotapes. 2. What gear do we use?: First of all, let's talk about gears. We've tried many, many different computers, from laptops to actually desktop from PC to Mac. Too many different ones. For now, we've seen coming back to the back because we've been realizing that most of the time to PC is a bit cheaper but won't last as long in terms off left time, because the way the software works is actually big, more different than the architecture of the Mac. So now we prefer using the back, and nowadays we're using the 15 inch full spectrum, my pro, the latest one. So we are very important to have the right equipment to start with. So those computers they're usually coming with only one drive inside, and we want to keep it as empty as possible. So we store every single video that we should on the loo external SSD drive that is really super fast, and that can keep the main drive completely king 3. Editing software we use: Now let's talk about the software that we actually use. So for the past two years we've been using Adami Premiere Pro Sisi to actually edit those videos. We also use on the side after Effect CC, which is used mostly to make effects, three titles, anything that actually requires more power. And that can do into premiere. I was personally using Final Cut Pro X most of the time before working with you, and I really like the interface. Everything is perfect, the only issue that you have to have Mac to actually use it, but in terms off rendering in terms, off exporting time in terms off, basically everything runs smoother. But on the other hand, it feels big, more limited in terms, off features and in terms off things that actually need for the videos that I make. If you wanna start making videos and you feel that this software from your parole or Fenical pro is way too complicated for you should just download something super easy. Like on the Mac, you can use my movie. It's pretty cheap. It's a good way to actually figure out if you like video editing, because the best is to actually see if you like doing it more than having to deal with all those Softwares. So try to do it like this and then figure out the best stuff right for you. 4. Organizing your footage: So, as I said before, the best is to actually use external hard drive to store everything that you film. Because if you're gonna put everything on your computer, it's gonna slow down like Wraith. So the way you import everything is directly arm excellent drives like this little guy is a Samsung one. And on this, you have to be organized. You have to make folders. We usually make folders throughout the day. So if we shoot during five days, we're gonna have five different folders. And those were gonna have different folders that usually the name of the camera itself. So it's easy to short. It's easy also to come back on the project if a client asks you to modify anything. If you want to check any footage, you know where it is. And it's the perfect way to stop with 5. Importing clips in Premiere Pro: So now let's import into the software Premiere Pro. The workflow is super easy. Either you drag all your folders directly, intra premier, and it's gonna keep the same yaki off all those folders with different names, different dates and everything. That's one solution. But there's another solution also, which we also use, because when we don't have many days or many different cameras, it's very lazy technique. But it works. So if all your cameras were set on the exacts and date and time, which you have to make sure that it said before, you can drag every single of your file directing to premiere and salt by the creation date . So by making this you will have every single file in the right order when you actually thumbed it. And that way everything is sorted. Everything is easy, and when you go through the files, it's already in the right order. So that's the technique we actually here is most of the time in pretty a pro. There is also dysfunction called LeBeau, and that allows you to actually put colors on your five, and this is a very good way to actually stay organized as well. In your folders to see which one is which, which, when you already use which one you're gonna use later, anything like this. 6. The Premiere Pro sequences: So now let's talk about the sequence. You're the sequence is very important. Premier, you have to choose which one you use. Either you go for four K sequence Either you go for 10. 80 sequence Either you go for eight k fumed, but you have to choose this because this is gonna affect a lot of different things in your project, the weight works and the way you're going export and everything we personally shoot almost everything info. Okay, so for us, it makes sense to make folk a timeline. And in terms, off frame rate, we most of the time used 23 0.976 frames per second. So our Sequent sittings is actually this one. But when we want to make a video for instagram sequence sitting, is that the same? Because you know that on INSTAGRAM format is better on 45 So we're not going to use the same one that we use for the lows. But we're going to use this one, which is a complete different one. But it's working absolutely perfectly for Instagram 7. The importance of shortcuts!: Now let's talk about shock. It's shock. It is very, very, very important. It is probably one off everything that is going to make your video Anything go from this level to all the way to the top, because you're gonna go between 5 to 10 times faster while editing and by going faster, you know, make movie years and you're gonna be better. This, the ones that you really need to remember from now old went in the ends are the A Q W and also the option button common button that works at the same time as you click on something . So there's many, many, many different shock. It's that you need to remember. Write them down on the least, do something. But this is gonna help to go to the next level, for sure. 8. Our Vlog editing workflow: So now let's talk about the workflow and the way we actually edit those logs. First, we start by putting down on the timeline all the talking clips directly like this. We don't edit them before. Then we put all the bureau clips after each other. Most of the talking parts are intact on the timeline because we're gonna cut them directly in it. It's way easier. You see where the blanks are. You see what you need to remove. And with all the shockers that I give you before you're able to commit super quickly and way better than it should do it directly in the source window. And as I said, the video clips are already cut into little small passed on. We only selected the party when that we're gonna use Indian it. So once you have everything on the timeline, the first step is to cut every single public you don't need from those talking clips. By doing this, you see your story line. You see exactly what you have the length off the entire clip. You see if you need something more if you need to re shoot something, this is the most important path to start where this is the base, and then we're gonna deal with the book and we're gonna do effects on this. We'll add music on this, but this is a later first, the storyline. Then we're gonna add music's effects, sound effects, everything transition everything that we need to make this entire story even better than it is then onto the grading. The grading is an important but to do as well because it gives this look to your image. It gives your style. This is your personality. You do this the way you like, and it's always good to go from this to this. This is actually better. And then the last step is to explore this video. 9. Editing with B-roll: So now let's edit those bureaus. The bureau is something very important inside the story because it makes the break. It's important to have this gap between the talking part. It makes the story more fluid. It makes it nice. It watch, and there's many where to actually ending those bureaus. If you wanna make something basic and easy, you just have to choose. Either you go for something slow or either you go for something with normal speed and they don't top of that. You answer music and voila, it's super easy. We personally perfect using this slow motion because we've been used to this and we can also play a bit more with footage when it is actually found it slo mo. But the easiest to edit some bureaus is to just cut following the beat of the music and the the most accurate with actually following that music and that's it. You have a nice meal with some music 10. Creating an "Overkill" B-roll: Now let's get into the overkill bureau, the one we actually all like the most. There's not much more to do than the other technique is just a few different tweaks that makes it so much better. First of all, super easy. Just zoom inside your footage. Look at this. This is a plane video, but once you start zooming into the clip just a tiny bit, it add some motion into it. It gives so much more depth and so much more attractiveness. This is something that we've been using in almost all of the bureau's, because it gives a little twist and that's perfect. That's what we need to do. This effect. It's super easy. You just have to go at the beginning of your clip. You press on this little watch logo next to the scale option. As you can see, it adds a little key at the beginning of the clip, and then you just have to go at the end of the clip and change it to 120%. For example, super easy. Check this out. It's already making a big difference. Then you can also use this technique to add some side or up and down movement inside your video also irritate your image. My personal favorite is actually to zoom inside the image and to rotate at the same time because it give this motion and image never looks as flat as it Waas. So just try this on a normal kid. He was a difference to record the second technique that we've been using a lot and a lot throughout all of those feels is the speed round. If you don't know what the speed run is, it's basically the way you sweet from the slimmer clip toe the normal speed clip. So if you don't add a speed ramping in between those two, basically you go from slow to direct normal speed, which doesn't make sense because it's gonna be like slope on been fast and slow and then fast and then slow and then fast and then slow. And you don't want this you want something is smooth in between, so the speed round is gonna add a little around meeting each speed. So basically doing speed ramping is like going from slow to accelerating and then slow and then accelerating and then slow and then accelerating and it's slow and everything progressively so. It's never choppy because if it's choppy, it looks off and that's not good. And the way we do this into Premiere Pro, it's by clicking this little FX button. Then go to time remapping, then speed. Then the easiest way I found is to just hold the command button or control bottom. If you're on a PC and then when you click, this appears this is the beginning off your ramp. This is what splits the two speeds. So now you want to drag this so it's actually making a long transition between the two speeds, and then you choose the path you want to accelerate and you drag it up all the way to the speed that you actually want to use. But please don't make it too fast. Don't go all the way to a higher percentage. That normal speed would be so. For example, if you shut a slow Moakley about 120 frames per second, you don't want to accelerate more than five times because otherwise the clip is going to be even more accelerated than the normal speed, and it's gonna look like this and that's not good. So for this one, for example, it's very to actually stay at a maximum off 500% also something that we've been using a lot in the bureau's others transition. You can either zoom, you can either slide. You can either rotate, but basically those transitions are super easy to do. We usually use plug ins that already made on there you can find if you go soon, transition for from years in transition for final cut, you will find them. It's super easy to apply, and then you have to drop down. Then if you want to do some really precise transition that you will have to use after effect, and then you can soon exactly in the frame where you want to be and fade absolutely perfectly. So there is no mistake before those. Please don't overuse them because they've been used by so many people, and please make sure to always use them. When it makes sense, Don't zoom from one clip to the next one. If there is no link in meeting to you don't want something completely else in your video. So the best is to keep a smart way to judge what to use and went to use 11. Mastering sound design: Now let's talk about the sound design. I used to say that I think effects inside the video is making the entire difference. But nowadays I think that it's all about sound designing to make it clear. I'm gonna show you an example off before I think the sound design. And after, - as I told you, which one do you like the most? Sound designing is not so hard, though it's just adding the right touch when you need it. It could be just a little bit when a title appears, or adding a bell sound if someone knocks at the door or simply adding some nature effect. For example, filming outside those sounds effects are super easy to Finally, You can also find big libraries where you have all the sounds that you need from like knocking to like sliding to rain drops were pouring a glass to breaking a glass like anything that you will actually need is online, so you just have to find it. Also sound designing is about little tweaks that you cannot. For example, if you have a new clip like this, their step, instead of having the old you to start directly as raw as it is like this, you should just drag this a little bit and faded their star power. Also, to make it smoother in your videos, do not have any half cut in between each other clip we use all the time this little odio effect that it's called constant power that makes a smooth transition in between each audio clip and with those, you avoid all those annoying sound that makes the entire head. It looks bad. One last thing about sound designing. We've been using a lot of time with those two FX, called High Pass and Low Pass. Those to basically means that they're cutting either the high frequency or either the low frequency, so to explain it simply the low password busy effect that cuts everything that is too high Pitch. For example, if you would dive in the water, you would use the low pass effect to fade your music a bit, so it really feels like the music has been playing underwater, but in the past said, for example, if you use a drone shot and you pretty high, you would use the high pass to get everything that is low. So you only hear the high pitched like if the sounds actually playing from the ground and you could just barely hear it from far were those two ethics are super easy to use, and there's actually many different way to play. 12. Our grading technics: onto the color grading. The color grading is something that many people actually forgetting, but this is very important. There's many ways to tweak the cars inside the video, so each camera has a different look. Each camera has different settings. You can shoot in flat profile. You can shoot in normal profile. You can shoot in so many different ways, but we basically never shoot flat. We know that most of the professionals are actually shooting with a flat profile picture because even if it looks flat, they're going to get so much for detail inside the video that you can tweak afterwards into your program. But it requires so much more time to actually do it. So we basically use the normal profile picture from any camera that we use. And then we just tweak the colors into premier, make it look nice, and that's way enough for what we do. Basically, it's like riding a little filter to a photo so it doesn't look boring but actually looks very attractive. So the way we grade is not by adding just one effect on top of all the clips to just give a look, we like to check every single clip to see if the color changes. If the light changes and we make sure to adjust everything inside the M actually looks as close as perfect congee. So the way we great is super easy. We usually start by opening the limit retail and then we go directly to the creative section. That's where we select our left. And we used to let called M 31 many people actually using this that. But we've still think that it's probably one of the best that has been created. It gives this orange type of summer look so once the is loaded in such a creative panel, we just reduce the intensity by 50%. Then we add 40 into the fading, then 10 into the shop, opening 10 into the vibrance. And now you just have a basic look that already looks so much better than the one before. Then you just have to tweak the brightness to contrast the highlights, shadows, whites, everything that you would think it is necessary to actually make it look better. So, yeah, this is basically how we managed to go from this grade to this one in just a few steps 13. Exporting your montage: now that you've done hold the produce that you can go and export your video. So, as I said before, if you're using a four K timeline, the best is to export info. Okay, so you can keep the entire quality of your export. But if you were using eternity timeline, then it's voluntary, just full of what you stop with in Premiere Pro, we usually export following the YouTube priest said. That is already saved inside the export settings, and we don't change any settings inside this one. It fits our video sittings and also very efficient to export, and the quality is good for online content. 14. How to select your music: Let's quickly talk about the song selection. Finding music for your content is something very, very easy and also complicated. Whether you create for yourself for online content or for a client, you have to choose music there. Cokie right, free or music that you actually buy the right to be able to use them. Make sure you something that you don't have the right to use, because otherwise someone might come back with a claim on your video, and then you will make money on your videos. There's a lot off copyright three libraries online on so many different platforms. There's also many, many websites that allows you to download songs by just having a new account on their websites and paying a monthly fee. And if you really want to use a song and you don't know if it's free to use all, not just make sure to contact the access and ask if you can use it on it. 15. Be inspired!: last but not least, be inspired. Don't forget to watch over creators. Don't forget to inspire yourself from different video editors video makers. But please always make sure to focus on what you actually like in order to find your unique touch. This is gonna make the entire difference between someone that is just coping someone else or someone that is making his own style. So please be unique usual brain and create the best thing you could possibly do. I hope you guys like the class.
