1. Introduction & the Problem: Jobs, careers, and work are all things that many people in society need to function. But how do you really get hired among the rest, supposedly you and everyone in this picture are looking for the same job. Now out of the center and a hand for our chosen for an interview. And from there, eventually more screened. And finally an average just came into one person. So how many become the one with the author and become successfully hired? So let's jump to it. Hello and welcome to the Technology count in successfully getting higher practical guide. Before I begin, let us go for who your instructors are. Program and the course features. My name is Chris. I'm an instructor. I have a bachelors business admin. I'm also chartered professional accountant, CPA, a Certified Information Systems Security Professional, sips, and a Certified Information System mater as Caesar. Now five plus years experience in IT, consulting, advisory and audits atop consultant firm's Big Four in the big five banks. I also have experienced knowledge in cyber security and infrastructure and applications and processes, project management, assurance, finance and accounting. Now last in terms of experiences with the scores, have gone hiring interviews, Crimean events over the years, and hamas conducted numerous resume and cover letter designs, fair students and young professionals as well. Now in terms of this program, we have over 20 thousand students who are more than 150 countries. And this topics includes things like cyber security, IT audit, risk management program management, finance and accounting, stocks and people investing tax budgets and career development. So the course is broken down into three areas. In Section one, we go to the job search journey and also certain strategies such as push and pull. And section two will go over the resume and cover letter guides. And if you guys, which actually go over the best practices. How to plan and allocate job searching: So one area that is often overlooked by other courses or coaches is related jobs should show journey. Now there's three pillars are important because when you do your job search journey, it can be on very long. It can last anywhere from a few days to maybe as long as a year. Planning and allocating time is important in job search journey. As mentioned earlier, the journey can last anywhere from a few days. She'd be more than a year. Now here's some statistics why you need to plan ahead. So on average, it takes about nine weeks for a person to find a job. And in fact, sometimes it actually is only the top 2% of the candidates that gets selected for these interviews out of the thousands at applied for the same job. And usually 70 to 80% of any average candidates total publications with MPD rejected. And the worst is that the longer you weigh and become unemployed, the less chance there is for you to quickly get hired. So with all these negative statistics against you, what should you do to consider when you apply for jobs? The idea is to plan and allocate time, knowing that job searches will take time. So in your day, plan to apply and set a goal, on average, it would take about 20 to 30 minutes for you to tailor your cover letter and resume and then create an online profile to apply to individual jobs. Now you may be thinking, why can't I just automate this? Well, the biggest issue is that almost all companies have different platforms, but different fields in setup. So when you try to automate this, you application may actually become incomplete. The best way is to really go through traditional ways are manually applying each application and reviewing. Now keep in mind that for every application that you submit sloppy and won't close doors faster. So you want to not waste each opportunity and really spent the time. The next aspect is factored the times you may be potentially interviewing or hearing back. Now on Irish intake anywhere from a few days to weeks or even months in rare cases for you to hear back. Sometimes you can have the right skills, experiences and network and just about everything. It's still not get the job offer and that this can literal hurt your confidence and esteem. So the key is really having a mindset. And we break this down into three core areas, confidence, endurance, and resiliency. The confidence is important because it not only drives you into the performance, but asks you day to day. Now with our pathogens, you may restrict yourself to smart set of options. Spite you actually having skills and experiences and with a confidence, you may not even try anymore. Now, confidence is important with the boat. I'm sure you can say that people with CSS or more confident because they have a lot of success going on for them. Now you can also have confidence through your own means as well. For yourself, the key is first thinking positively when you just go in and interfere rejection or haven't heard back from anything yet, keeping your mind positively will help you move forward and make them one step closer to being confident. So the key is really telling himself that if the opportunity that's come now, it's can come later. There's still hope as long as you keep trying, you miss a 100% of the shots you don't take. The next area is building your endurance. Like I mentioned, interviewing and applying for jobs can become lengthy journey. The best way is really refresh yourself in-between by relaxing. Don't spend like eight hours stage constantly practice for interviews or apply for jobs. You're gonna burn out. Use the time in-between to relax your mind. You should also stay motivated during your journey. Some simple ways to stay motivated can include such as listened to music, streaming or future successes, or even looking back at how far you became. So lastly, exercising, staying mentally fit is also important. It's now and we can help you if your endurance but R, So have you present better, become more confident externally. The final area is staying resilient as part of your mind set. And there shouldn't be rejection is going to be failure and even surprises along the way. And therefore, it's important to have a mindset to really upset that there's going to be challenges, moments of doubt, and even failure. And that's this mindset that's when keeping motivated, hopeful, and persistent. 4. How to find the right job for you: The last pillar is really preparing you for your job search journey through finding the right row and job for your goals and the reasons that there's so many different types of jobs, different industries, germ nature, which can often misdirect you from ego, for example, let's say you are interested in getting a job in cybersecurity. Great, but the question is, is this really what you need? You need to consider different aspects of your life, you current situation, your time, and everything to determine if this matters more and you need to go for it. And this is especially true every switching careers are planning to go back to school for a different career path. So let's break this thought process down. The first thing that you need to know is what exactly as you go, as you go in finding a new job. Based on maybe having sooner lifestyle, more time, but travel, money, career growth, you passion, or even simply getting the experience in living, establishing relationships and networks so they can further grow. So what exactly is you go? So let's break this down third or one exactly as you current state. And should you be looking for new job? You have to determine if you have the right years of experience. So let's say you are looking for a senior manager role or senior analysts. Do you have the right set of experiences to perform the work? I know most people say fake it till you make it, but there's also fat ban to fail and can't expose the results could be dire. Now education certification should also be considered as well. Would you believe that you have the current education certifications being enough or should you be considering taking additional courses? Are learnings to further improve now about networks and relationships. So some in-demand jobs like management, consulting, I banking, or pick Tech, would likely help you increase your chances that we have developed some form of networker relationships with existing employees. Similarly, skill sets should be considered. So questions that you may want to ask yourself is do you have the right skills? So you're looking for data scientists rows. The example shown in this course are for educational demonstrations. 6. How to job search via List and Apply: Lists and apply. So listing and applying at its simplest form is really listened companies you know or don't know, and then applying them online but through an organized manner. Now in our example, we're going to add a bit more depth in the strategy so that you can see how simple add-ons can really enhance your strategy and searching. So here is the Fortune 500 list accompanies. Let's say I wanted a job and energy. So I will look for energy in the industry. Now if you applied and got interviews, rejections than you can simply update the status. And the idea is to be organized in job search so that you're aware of what companies you apply to begin tracking your performance. Because tracking your performance can help you understand what went wrong and improve from there. 7. How to job search via Job Boards and Search Engines: So search engines and job boards are great tools for you to look for job listings, a match we preferred job title, location, salary language anymore. And it's also great for finding the same job across different companies. Essentially these 2's do less jobs in one goal. So let's quickly go over pros and cons before we dive into examples. For benefits, there are quick and easy and simple to use. They also provide higher accuracy I really did and it's relevant jobs for you. So if you search for the job terms, say business analysts, they are going to provide you business analysts openings exactly. Wes, what you stated. Cons however, is that jobs are not always listed on these boards because employees may not have posted on there. So one of the easiest way is to really go into search engines like Google, which has its own built-in job listings by aggregating different search results across different pages. So for example, I want to look for role like a business analysts. Then I will simply just type it in. And then Google will display a listserv, business analyst jobs. And you can actually click on theatre to know the specific companies in job descriptions as well. So this is Google. Now, similarly, for job boards, they do the same function and they aggregate jobs from different companies. And sometimes employers would also post these. And you can try companies like Indeed LinkedIn, jobless, smarten, cruder, anymore. 8. How to job search by networking and reaching out: Let's take a look at networking and reaching out. So the idea here is exactly as what it seems. You have to reach out to people in your network or meet new people to get job opportunities. Now you can use things like LinkedIn, professional networks, forums or even your friends. And the benefits and networking is really that you make potentially land jobs quicker and also having direct interviews. You can also get unplugged sharps through contacts and even have direct information from people on the teams and the hiring managers themselves. The cons is that they may be ignored by people when you reach 0. Second is that most companies will still require you to fill online applications for formalities. So let's take a look at a practical example on how you can call cause someone for job opportunities. So as mentioned earlier, there's many different ways for you to reach out to network. And one of the best ways is really through LinkedIn. And you can reach your to your connections by messaging LAM. So when you message them, you should keep in mind about three simple facts. The first is really having your message to contain your goal. And the reason is because you want to specify the company that you're applying to and are you interested in also the row as well? The second aspect is really having a call to action. If this person that you're connected with is in a company, you may want to speak with him or her. You may want to be able to schedule car to understand a bit more so that they can potentially normally interview you or bigger thorough, but also direct you to the right people. The last but not least, you should also keep it short and simple. Keep your messages short. Simple, polite. Have email etiquette, have message advocate. 9. How to job search by attending events/job fairs: Events and job fairs are great ways to push yourself forward to potential employers and many fields, universities and cities. Now, opportunities to network as another benefit, as you can approach recruiters and team members to find out more about their roles, company culture, and their day-to-day. Now in terms of cons, These events are generally packed with many different individuals and competition will be higher. Moreover, you'll likely be more stress because of the huge crowds and social anxiety. Now, this might not be available or applicable to everyone because everyone functions in different levels. But these are some of the factors that could in fact individuals, or sometimes the events in job fairs can be tiring and even emotional training as you spent hours to talk and network with individuals. Now lastly, there may also be a chance that recruiters may miss you because there's just too many individuals. So you need to find a way to be unique. So let's go through a practical example how you can improve performance in these events are right. So for step one and job fairs and events is that you should narrow down potential targets by talking to representatives of companies that you want to work in. Now this doesn't necessarily mean don't talk to any other companies in that you shouldn't network with anyone else. But the idea is that you should get through your main objectives first. Otherwise you may run out of time and never get to it. So there's gonna be a lot of different companies that you have in mind. And you want to research a bit more about the company's trends, news, and products so that you have some information when you talk to some representatives in these companies. And in addition, you should ask to come with good questions or you may want to ask potential and the visual so you can download the download attachment for the questions that you may want to ask. But these can range from things like asking about work-life balance today, today, or even projects and clients that they have worked with. So after you identify certain targets, you need to find the best way for you to approach the group. Finally, during your approach with a representative, you should carry a meaningful and memorable dialog. And the reason that there's so many different individuals that the rep may actually forget your name or information later on. And the best way for you is to be prepared mixture. The good thing about LinkedIn is that you can also search for specific individuals and also companies in human groups containing recruiters. Now let's say you found a recruiter and decided to add them to your connection. So now's the time to then reach out to them and ask them for the surfaces. Aso passively market your profile as it displays your experiences, skills, education, and qualifications. It is also actively and heavily used by many recruiting companies and head hunters. So the purpose of this video is to only go over the saying up your profile for the purpose of job search, journey or rate. So to really set up your LinkedIn profile for job searches is three aspects. Public profile, N5 recruiters and setting up shop alerts. You can start by going to this link below for your public profile and you can follow along. So when you sign into your LinkedIn account, you will notice your profile and a right-hand panel with various options. So essentially, this is also your mass page for you to set and control when you want to display so publicly. And the first thing I want to do is to really make it your profile public. And you can select this by clicking the taco button here to enable it as a public visibility. And this allows non-users and also users to feel your public profile. And it makes it easier that people that haven't sign-on to their accounts to easily search in search engines and really click the link and for your profile. Next is really selecting the archons or you want to see in your profile. And when you scroll down, you can see exactly what items that you want to select. For example, you might want to show your summer story, show hairline, shoe profile, should experiences and show other details like certifications, language, or Ox and groups. So this is really setting up your public profile. So after setting up your public profile, you can go back to your profile main page and click on edits to add on open to work option for recruiters to find out more about your availabilities in and click on the Open torque or show recruiters, you are open to work and it's usually around this area and near the top right under your name. So when you click on this, it should prompt up a series of questions which can fill details are job options, locations, and various other information that interests you. And at the same time, you can then also select whether you want to notify the recruiters, the London members, and other parties as well. Keep in mind that when you select all members, it shows your current companies and colleagues. Whereas if you select only recruiters, This will show only recruiters except the ones that work at your current company. So we're fast setup. We can now look at how you can create job alerts automatically in LinkedIn. So step one is simply navigate to the job section and step to searching the row that you want. For example, I am looking for row in, senior manager for strategy, simply type this in and search bar. Afterwards the search results are in and there will be an option for you to select whether you want to be alerted by LinkedIn and these similar jobs. Now keep in mind that if you want sharp alerts for each unique role, you need to do the same and select the chapel alerts. 13. How to job search by using Professional Websites: The next is really having a professional website to trap potential opportunities. Having a professional website that tells a story, experiences, and projects is an excellent way to mark yourself to employers. Some benefits of having professional websites include displaying a, showcasing the skills and experiences through your projects, videos, audios, sampled work, and even github projects. Now, customization and displaying your profile is also a great benefit with your own personal website, you can ask crap how you want to present yourself. In fact, websites can also passively market profiles while simply set up the website and provide your lengths in imposes on LinkedIn or other channels. Cons, however, for professional web sites is that they may have low traffic and requires good search engine optimization marketing to drive up your rank. Now let's take a look at some of the benefits and costs. So the benefits include having more targeted offers and opportunities for the work related to the leadership activity that you're working on. Your network itself can also help you pull jobs and opportunities passively. So what this means is that you have a decent size of network through the friends, family connections. They can passively invite you for opportunities. So what exactly are the benefits of having a good network? But one of them is really having unpublished Opportunities refers coming out of the blue, or at times when you least expect. In fact, a lot of opportunities nowadays are generally unpublished. And hiring managers and department heads would ask employees if they know any potential candidates first, be proposing these to the public. Therefore, if you have a good network, they can give you the first-mover advantage. Insider knowledge of the company team and culture is also large benefit of having networks. And these people can often share with you the details that you don't get from job descriptions. And lastly, your networks referred opportunities or like we more genuine and trusting Pacino, who you are and what you do and are familiar with the skills and experiences. So this is the power of a network. And in terms of cons, you may have to go for your ego shyness to set some of these potential opportunities proposed by your network. Many people have fears reasons and sometimes people may feel that they are dependent on others. If they rely on the network, this shouldn't be true because in order for you to be successful, are listening to help you and you need to help others as well. So don't shy away our field dependent on others. Another aspect is that the volume specific rows that you receive from your network may not be high. Generally, people are busy. I mean, I think of others to refer them for the specific job opportunities that they see. The first is identifying the requirements of the job and the needs of the company by analyzing the job description. The second is crafting a story to illustrate your experience and background of how you develop your skills, education, experience, and when exactly as you brand. The last is choosing relevant experiences, contents, skill sets on your resume and cover letters so that they climbed the targeted job description. The scroll through some of the practical examples where I'll have an example of the job description, resume and Kuffler. And we'll go through how we can evolve and transform some b's followed the steps. In our practical example, there's gonna be documents that you can download and follow along. The first few documents I wanted to take a look at. It's one dot 11 dot two, which contains the job description and the resume cover letter before they are tailored. So let's take a look at 1.01y when no one is job description. In our example, we're going to be looking at a accounting position. So like any other job descriptions, you may generally find fears information. And one common aspect is that things like the company, the team, the role, and some of the company background information is generally identified in the first paragraph. Now afterwards, the specific job responsibilities, which really are the tasks that the candidate It's expected to prefer or be listed. And then underneath, there'll be qualifications. Now, these are generally sometimes separated by and you can also see them being grouped together. So these include things like your education experience, technical skills, soft skills in other technology skills that the hiring manager or the recruiter will like to have for a ideal candidate. So when we tailor a resume and cover letter, and then eventually moving on to the other steps where we were Template and structure and also update the contents. We can actually transform our resume and cover letter from something like this to this. So that's the point of the practical guide. So tailoring in our example, we'll go through a detailed step-by-step approach, which may seem longer first, by asking a more experienced and familiar with this process, tailoring your resume and cover letter can actually be relatively quick. Now that you've seen the starting point with 1.01y No.2, how do you really tailored the resume cover letter? While the first step is really identifying the areas that are important to the employer. And this is done by finding the requirements on the job description. Let's take a look in habit Taylor, a resume and cover letter by identifying the requirements in the job description. Now, Open Document one dash three, and we can go through the example together. So at the top you can see the job description contains things like the accompanying location, position, sometimes the team name as well. And this gives you good information and detail for you to craft a cover letter that the next paragraph is generally the introduction or the company background. So if you don't have the relevant experiences, then always keep some prior experiences, direct transition or a similar on your resume cover letter so that you can bridge the gap. So scrolling down, we go to the qualifications which outlined the educational requirements, soft skills and technical skills. Now it's important to realize that not everyone will be able to meet each and every requirement. So how you perform in the interview and how you connect with the company and culture of the team, the hiring manager, or manage a lot more, because not everyone's going to meet each and every single point on a job description. Now scrolling down, it's also important to pay attention to any instructions. So looking at the candidate's resume, we can see that the education closely aligns with the job description. And this is great and normally tells us that the candidate study the accounting as part of their post-secondary education, but also that they're pursuing the CPA designation. So it signifies that there's direction and ambition and the candidate. So we can also see that a journey as starting to be formed. So the candidate started off as a sales associate and also a swim instructor, but eventually they pivoted towards being a bunch of specialists and a junior count anymore and the accounting field. But at the same time, we can also see that their experience is about only a year. And despite the fact that the job description indicates at least two to five years. And this here we can see that there's a bit of a weakness, but we can tailor our resume and craft a story such that we'll be able to meet some of the requirements and potential be considered for an entity. So looking at these components, we can craft story by really classifying what the strengths, weakness, brand, and overall journey is. And you can do the same when you craft your story. Now, after determine the information that we just saw above. And a short paragraph should also include your experiences, your passion, education, and goes to craft a story. So here's an example of the story based on our candidates example. 21. How to talior your resume and cover letter by keeping/removing parts: How to craft a story. You now know your brand and position. And the next step is to identify areas that you want to keep or remove on your resume. And you can download the download attachment 1.5 to follow along. Now normal, it's usually sensitive topic that most of us would think. Why should we remove certain experiences? And we believe that our expenses are given in the first place. How will they idea comes back to tailoring? You need shown relevant experiences. Otherwise, your resume and cover letter can be very messy. You're gonna show experiences that don't add value to the hiring manager or recruiter. So we can choose the relevancy of experiences on a resume and cover letter by first revisiting the requirements as part of step a. Really looking at what are the specific job requirements that are important for a resume and cover letter? And after this, we would then go down and really identify the specific areas to keep it and remove. For example, education is relevant and it's critical parts. So one need to keep this relevant skills and experiences that OS relate to the job description should also be identify and kept as well. Now non-relevant experiences should be considered for removal. There's no hard rule that says that whenever you apply for jobs, you should remove all non-relevant positions and experiences. In fact, sometimes keeping some of these will show you another set of skill sets. Now for example, we're going to remove them because they don't transition well into the counted position as similar when you do the cover letter. And also identify components that are relevant and non-relevant as well. 22. How to template your cover letter and resume: After tailoring, the next step is templating and structuring. And this includes four areas. The first is templating, which leverages the customer downloadable templates, color and theme, which uses specific colors and themes for visual appeal. Structuring, which involves reordering and laying out the resume and cover letter and an organized, simple, logical and easy to read manner. And finally, making a unique craft, a unique and memorable resume and cover letter, that style that defines you. So here are some examples of cool templates and structuring for resumes and cover letters. And you can see that the color style theme, everything makes it attractive, unique, and professional. So let's continue with our practical example and go through how we can template and structure our resume and cover letter. You can download the download attachment 1.6 to see how we restructured template. It's the cover letter and resume. So looking at the document, we can see that we had the initial resume and cover letter, but then we actually translated them into templates. And we can see that there's a certain color theme. There's logo, SS graphic is things that make it more visually appealing. Now we didn't edit the contents specifically because I don't go into that. And step number three. But this is how we template structure a resume and cover letter. 23. How to revise your resume and cover letter content: Finally, this comes down to the last area of the resume and cover letter guide. Content involves having the right information on your resume and cover letter, for example, includes rewarding your sentences and bullet points to match keywords and faces in your resume cover letter. Using impactful results from words to demonstrate your achievements by using active words and also quantifying your results where possible. So looking at these in Japan, more detail, how to do it. So how do you reward your sentence and bullet points to match the keywords and phases in your resume and cover letter. So looking at our quick sample here, let's say you have a requirement where the candidate as expected to conduct requirements scattering, and the client facing role as part of a job description. And then lastly, in terms of relevant experiences and skills, we had this on a resume and previous cover letters, but then we specifically mash them towards the job description. And this will show how we can transition to a new role with our experiences and skills. Now in terms of the resume, I then update it some things like the grammar, qualifications and also adding things like the communication in detail, orientate appoints. I also added and communication and the skills. And I also updated and quantify the experiences. And finally, I also updated the format to ensure that the dates are consistent and the same format. So this is really updating the content. 24. Key components and tips in an interview: The interview guide, inner guide, we'll go with three areas. The first is how to answer questions. And I will explain what exactly are behavioral, situational, and rho specific questions and are supervised methods on how you can best answer some of these. The second area that we will briefly go over is how you can practice and be prepared for the interview. And lastly, we were also go with the great tips that you should do when interviewing. 25. How to answer different types of questions in an interview: So in terms of answering questions, there's many different types of questions. And the most common types are behavioral, situational, and rho specific. And these are different than the traditional questions like what are your strengths, weaknesses, what are your goals? And tell me about yourself. Now since these are a bit more complex to answer, I'll go over the guides and these categories by I will now go with the traditional questions and had answered them. So let's take a look at these specific categories and how to best answer them. So behavioral questions are questions that the interviewer asks you to describe about your experience for certain things. And the questions are generally ask so that the interviewer can learn more about what you've done in your primary role and experiences. And the behavioral questions usually asks candidates to provide examples of certain experiences that they've endured. For example, in this word cloud, you can see that some common questions that the interviewer may ask may include things like, how do you handle challenges? Tell me about a time that you discrete boat your supervisor and colleague, and how do you resolve? So how do you really answer behavioral questions? So the best way to answer behavioral questions is really through the star method and star stands for situation, task, action and results. Situation involves laying now an example of a situation that you experienced in your current and prior role. For example, let's say an interviewer asked me about how I dealt with a tough customer in a SalesRole. Now in this case, I'm gonna start off saying, sure. My row at XYZ company, I was a sales associate and that there were many times where customers often refunded, but there was this one time where I had a very difficult customer whom did not have sales receives, it demanded a refund. Now in this case, you outline the situation or the problem. The next is that you specify the task, and here you indicate the task that you told to conduct. And you should generally include some details such as the challenges and what exactly the tried to do to solve it. So back to our example, I would say now as part of the situation, I was obviously can now tasked to refund the amount to the customer, which involved me come back to the system and to conduct a reversal. But the challenges were that I did not have the access code to conduct this and the customer did not have the receipt. So afterwards, you would have the action. Now actually means a step site you actually took to complete the steps. And the interviewer is trying to learn how you would act, behave, or deal within these conditions. And the questions test your ability to resolve issues. Think N_hat. Generally the questions include things like if you were delayed and a project or tasks, what do you do? How would you culture mentioned new team member and more. So in general, situational questions are a little different than behavioral questions because they asked you about the future or whatever that's. So let's take a look at how we can answer situational questions. Here's some great ways to answer situational questions. And first is to understand the question so that you will be able to answer it correctly. And the next is to paraphrase the question. So peripheries and questions would tell you mine that you're answering the question specifically. And it will also remind the interviewing of the specific questions that they asked. For example, if the interviewer asks you, what would you do if you were behind in a task us, the interviewee may then likely say, well, if I was behind in a task, I will do the following. So this is paraphrasing and also understanding the question. Afterwards logically explain how you conduct a situation or scenario and your rationale. For example, you might say, here are the steps that I would conduct. First, I will do this and then that because this was the reason why you would want to specify the rationale and your answers is because it also provides backs up your points for your decision. And this also lets the interview and know your thought process. So lastly, end it with a strong conclusion or a recommendation and the reasons that you want to make your answer memorable and show that the interviewer that you are competent and handling these situations and scenarios. For example, you might say, overall, if I were to encounter this similar situation, I would also do XXX to minimize this event from occurring happening. This tells the interviewer that you're not only able to solve the issue, but also how recommendations it prevented. This now comes down to the last type of questions, which is job specific type. Job specific type questions can be technical, situational behavior, or knowledge base. And the idea is that the interviewer aims to tests and asks you if you really know your material. For example, if you are a programmer, do you really know how to program? And sometimes companies would even have you do labs, tests are cases to fully test your knowledge and skill sets. Here are some examples of job specific questions. For example, if you are in supply chain management, some questions may be what distribution channel would revise that our department in use for these clients? If you were a marketing, when you want to conduct a competitor analysis, what are the steps? So you can see that these are jobs specific questions over the tips in hand, best answer these. The best way to really answer job specific questions. It's first being honest. Being honest in your experience skills and credentials is important. And the reason is because you are asked something that you don't know or to try to make it up and pretend, you know, you will look very silly and non-competent. So the idea is that it has a 100% OK to not know everything in the job. So be honest. For example, if the interviewer asks you, Have you worked with Linux or Unix systems and you don't know this as a interviewer, You may respond by saying, I have it. However, I have worked on Windows OS systems. And this response is honest, but at the same time and let the interviewer know that you have experience elsewhere and that this experience is also transferable and similar in skill sets. Another tip that you want to explain what you know and ask them to discuss how you would be able to bridge the gap and this knowledge and skill. Continuing with our example above, we may also fair to say, although I'm not familiar with the Linux or Unix systems, I am familiar with the core processes and taxes and managing sugars as an admin, I have prior experience in XXX and then you list setup and I plan to bridge this gap. I don't XXX. And this response helps bridge the gaps in experience knowledge, but also tells the interviewer that you are willing to learn and develop those skills. The last tip is capitalize on credentials, education, and experience. You want to highlight your strings, for example, at the end of your answer, you may also want to say something to show strength. So overall I have a master's in and for Technology and I have two plus years experience and implementing and administrating servers. I'm confident I can move with these new systems. And this ends it with a strong and this ends it with a strong conclusion and reminds us the interviewer, that you are competent despite lacking skills. 26. How to practice and prepare for an interview: The second area of the interview guide is really practicing and preparing. Practice makes perfect. So the idea is that the more you practice, the better you are in responding to questions, and the more confident you'll be. The best way to practice is really having a list of common questions to practice answering towards and to base off your specific skills and experiences. So it's recommending bag practice with more people, your friends, family, and peers. However, at the same time, you shouldn't over practice because this can often drain you and actually make you worse off. If a few to stress have a maximum of maybe ten questions each in each category and prepare. The more you are comfortable to answer questions, the better you are in answering one set are new. So this are so builds your speaking skills. Reviewing the company information, job description, and job nature is also important. It is always good to learn more about the company and the job itself by researching or asking people so that when the technical or job specific questions are asked, you're able to answer. If you are also intervene for technical roles, it would be ideal to review some of the technical information as you might likely be asked specific questions or even be prompt to do coning exercises, labs, cases, and more. Lastly, think about logistics of the interview. If the interview is conducted via web or call, download the right tools and test your microphone, camera, and settings at least a day before the actual interview. And if you're conducting the interview in-person, plan properly of how you're going to get there and if you need to take time off. So these are the aspects that you should consider when practicing and preparing. 27. How to get ready for the interview with interview tips: The final part of the interview guide is the interviewing tips. I've listed them into three areas, pre-interview Day, Interview Day, and post interview. For pre-interview days. Some of these I have already mentioned before. For example, you should consider their logistics planner you wrote and how are you going to get their review? The job description is also important as well. Now you should ask to review any instructions that the interviewer or HR has mentioned. For example, when you arrive, you may need to bring an ID for forums or contact someone to lead you in into the building. So instructions are important. Bring additional copies of your resume and cover letter to if there are multiple interviewers. And it really never hurts to bring a spare brain pen and paper because if we need to take notes or have information that was discussed in interview, you can write these down. Bringing laptop or USB or sample work. It is also important as well. For example, shouldn't rows like digital media, graphic design, advertisement, fashion. These may require you to show your work, so be prepared to bring them. Now on interview day, here's some tips that you might likely have done yourself. But as a reminder here they are tourists properly based on the job environment and the field arrived earlier. Because being a ten minutes earlier, you have at least time to check in and relax. But if you arrive late and n rush, this can show now unprofessionalism. One of the most important aspect is also making a good impression. Remember, when you are on the employees premise, whether it is the receptionists, janitor, all of the workers, or the interviewers themselves, be respectful to everyone and leave them with a good impression and the reasons that you'll likely be working there one day anyways. So you want to be on the good side of people and really make that first impression. And the other aspect is that sometimes the other workers in the office may actually be key stakeholders, be confident and relaxed as a recurring theme that I've mentioned, having these two on the interview day will reduce your stress, nervousness, and also enable you to speak and perform whether be aware of your social cues to because if we smell and be friendly, the tone and the atmosphere from the interviewer and yourself would likely be the same. And also displays are you're approachable and can work with. So remember to smile and be happy. Take notes if needed, is also important because sometimes discussions on the team size, key taxes, and interview next steps are discussed in the interview. So if you take notes during these interviews, and it can also show that you're interested in this shop and that you as an individual is diligent. Lastly, remember to ask questions at the end of the interview, hyenas man to be mutual. So the employer hires you, but you asked to choose the employer. So ask questions that as relevant to you and questions or you want to know more about, for example, questions like what are the next steps? And what do you expect to hear back questions related to maybe the hiring manager's expectations of yourself or opportunities of growth. Now for the post interview tips, you should consider thanking the interviewer after the interview. In your message, Remember to craft a sentence or two and how you believe that you are a good fit for the role and any memorable interviews, stories that you shared and can connect and relate to. This can bring a personal touch between you and the interviewer. It's also important to keep any promises. For example, I'll turn their interview with you mentioned that you send follow-up questions, additional sample work than do send those. Moreover connected with them via LinkedIn if you haven't. Lastly, if you haven't heard back from them after one to two weeks or more, send a simple follow-up with them. Never assume that you are not higher just because they haven't replied. There are many reasons why hiring processes can take long. So therefore, remember to follow up. 28. Negotiation Tactics Roadmap: This now comes down to the last section of the course, which is negotiation tactics. Negotiation tactics are used help you precision and requests for additional compensation when given a job offer. 29. Understanding your value and package for negotiation: So prior to explaining some negotiation tactics, let's determine two key critical items. The first is your value and the second is a package. Having a knowing these would enable you to better negotiate when an author is giving you value is how much you are worth to the employer. So there are several factors to determine your value to the potential employer at the time of your offer. And these include you experienced in skill sets, the market competition, which is not only the market rate of the people that's applying for a similar role, but also your own supply and demand as an individual. For example, if you have multiple job offers and interviews occurring at the same time, you as an individual will most certainly elevate in value because there's multiple employees demanding for your talent. Certification and education also determines your value. For example, if you have to complete as shown in course's exams or have degrees, these add markups to your profile. Finally, network branding and also reputation itself are additional factors that can add value. For example, if you are known in the industry as a individual that won many awards, haven't strong connections and having on brand, these are increased in value. The other area that you need to ask to understand is that the compensation package itself isn't just limited to the amount that they pay through wages, salaries, or commissions, but asked through other aspects like vacation title, location of workplace, experience over R such as opportunity travel, sponsorships like tuition, visas, share and profit plan perks like discounts of freebies, pension, medical insurance benefits, workplace flexibility, and also even sign-on bonuses. So therefore, having this knowledge on what you can work with and what you have is critical. 30. What are Negotiating Tactics: So with that knowledge, the package in your value here, five tactics that you can potentially use and consider. The first is presenting your valence strings, pruning it with rationale and really providing a counteroffer tactic to involves a bit of timing and luck and strategy. And the idea is to leverage on constraints that the employer has an R. So your opportunities, for example, if the employee is desperately in need of someone and they've been hiring for some time or that they are hiring individuals in your field and it's often difficult to get a hold of someone. You can leverage on this constraint and negotiate that you're willing to make it work for the both of you, and that you'll be able to fill this vacancy but for revised amount. Similarly, you can also play with opportunities to if you have competing offers, you can negotiate and ask potential employees to match. Now keep in mind that the strategy is tricky and you have to balance it out by now pushing too far. The idea is that you should have a win-win situation. Tactic number three is considering the whole deal and providing alternatives. As mentioned earlier, the compensation package is large, so consider things ie, asking for sign-on bonuses, extra vacation sponsorships, and so forth. Tack number four is really upsetting and anchoring to re-discuss compensation in the future. For example, if the employer cannot provide you that amount, then come to an agreement where you can say that if you pass probation or have proven yourself six months after being hired, you and the employer have a chance to negotiate again. The last tactic is really being prepared to stop negotiating and move on. Sometimes the employer will not budge and will not provide any additional perks. And this case, you need to really evaluate if you're willing to accept this or be prepared to move on. So really think about the whole package, that job itself. And if you're already not happy about proceeding with this job offer, what's the point of really staying? So be prepared to stop negotiating and move on. 31. Summary and ending: This now comes to the end of the course. As a lessons learned recap, there's three sections that we covered.
