1. Introduction to Power BI the Ultimate Orientation Class: So you have seen interactive dashboards like this? Big data business intelligence, actionable insights. All these words are floating about and you're wondering how can I use data? Andi insights. What data can I use? What software can I use? How much will it cost me? What skills are required? How can I get started? My name is Paula, and this course has been designed for you. Let me debunk. Complements. The first myth is high cost of entry business intelligence, actionable insights, interactive dashboards There would in the budget of every company, every business, every brand. You see. In 2000 and 15 Microsoft released para P I to the general public. The desktop version is completely free, and there's also a freemium version off power bi I services The second mitt that I'm going to debunk is that a company or business needs a data scientist to make sense, I would off the data. A company needs someone that understands the business. So when a trend spotted, the business expert knows why on nose if correction action is needed, power bi I offers insights to data by carrying a Microsoft machine learning on your data para B. I also offers a suite of connectors that comes were pre built dashboards on. All you need to do is connect to your data power. Bi I is a self service system. Its aim is to allow anyone analyze data to get meaningful insights. The aim of this course is to give you a solid orientation of power. Bi I. First you learn how to download and install para B I desktop. We'll have a look around the user interface on. Then we'll start to work with some data. Using an example data set, we will connect to both Excel and CSB files on. You'll get an introduction to the query editor as we do some transformations on that data. Then we move on to a few calculations and you'll be introduced to the concept of relationships. Aunt to the concept. Off decks finally in Power Bi desktop We look at the visualization side after we look official is ations in power Bi desktop. We move on to Power bi I services. It's in services that you'll get inside. You'll have the ability to share reports dashboards on connect to data packs that contain pre built dashboards on and reports this course is an orientation course designed to get you familiar and comfortable with the power bi I user interface the aim of the courses to get you up for morning to show you the power bi, I offers a real solution and give you ideas on how it can actually be used as mentioned earlier. My name is Paula and I am a c p. A. As an accountant, I have bean producing insights based on data for years now. And in addition to being a c p a, I'm also a moment to I've been teaching online now since 2000 and 10. So if you are looking to used out of for better business insight and don't know where to get started than this is the course for you. If you've been using Excel power tools on a considering using power bi I, then this is the course for you. If you're changing jobs and you need to be familiar with power bi I than this is also for you. This course is don't designed as an orientation on its aim is for beginners. So why don't you jump in on to get started 2. Section 1 Overview: in this section, we're going to look at power. Bi Desktop Power Bi desktop is a free business intelligence software, but you must download and install on your laptop or computer or device this tree components to parody I desktop. There's the query. Editor is the modeling and calculation side on. Then there is the powerful visualization side. Now, if you are an avid Excel user, you'll be familiar with exiles. Power pivot para query and power of you In essence, para B. I is a combination of all three of these on If you're already working with exiles power tools than the trans fair to para P. I is going to be very, very straight forward for you. But don't worry if you're not familiar with these exile power tools because you can learn how to use power bi I, without knowing how to use excels power tools. So what are we going to look at in this section? Well, well, first download and install para B I. You learn how to connect your data and in our example, will connect to Excel spy chief Andi to see SV far. We look out working with the data, adding calculations to the data on. Then we will look at some simple visualizations. The aim off this section is for you to get familiar with Power bi desktop to be able to navigate around the union user interface on to be able to create simple reports with simple datasets. 3. Download and Install Power BI Desktop: downloading power Bi desktop is relatively straightforward. All you need to do is go to Google and type in power bi I desktop. And when you click in Power bi I desktop, you're looking for the Microsoft Power bi I desktop. Andi. When you could hear you come into the power bi I death top page where you can download and what I want you to do is, I want you to go to advanced download options now in the advanced download options you get to select whether you are going to download the 64 bit version or the 32 bit version independent on the computer that you have is dependent on the version that you need to download. So if you you can read more about the details, you can also read more about the system requirements on there is install instructions here is well so you can follow the install instructions, so select your language and press download on. Then you get to pick between the 32 bit or the 64 bit. So when you check the box, you say next this will then download the file to your computer. Andi, you can then open Andre, room the application on your computer and go true. The install application. I already have that installed. So I'm going to cancel that when you have it installed on when you open it, you will be greeted with a screen like this. Now I'm logged in. So my name is appear Talented stuff that's available to you, the blog's tutorials and stuff like this. You can also go straight into getting your data or connecting to recent power bi I vials that you have worked on on. You can open up the report. I'm going to click this button down here, Show this page on started because I don't want to show this page every time I start up and I'm going to x able to this now before I show you how to connect your first a lot of data. What we're gonna do is we're gonna take a walk. True. The power bi I desktop application. So you know where you can find everything on the home screen. You have your get data options and it's from in here that you can get all off the data that you can connect to see can connect to databases and online services and so forth. You can go to recent sources you can enter data on if you press at a queries that opens up the query editor if you have visuals or if you can insert them here, if you have data already there, you can work with inheriting visuals and text boxes and stuff. You can manage relationships and we can create measures in view. We've got the layout on modelling is for when you're modeling your data. Now, over here on the right hand side, you have your visit visualization. So old visualizations air here on you can add new visualizations. And when you select visualizations, all these values down here will change dependent on what's available for that particular church. When you've uploaded your data at your fields, all of your fields of data will be available here in the right in this fields list. Now, over here on the left, this is the report view. You also have the table view, so you conceal the table to data very quickly and you have the relationship view on. We look at this in more detail in a few minutes when we actually connect to our first data set. So go ahead now and make sure you download and install power Bi desktop Andi, then familiars eyes yourself with the options that are available to you in the desktop applications before we actually go in and start getting some data. 4. Connect to data from Power BI Desktop: let's connect to some data and transform some data so we can build our first power bi I reports. So what we're gonna do is we're going to say, get data and I'm going to get you to import eight CS v file on. Do I have a CSP file? Cold sales that we're going to open. And when we opened, what will happen is the query editor window will open. So first of all, what we see is a sample of her data on based on the 1st 200 rows with the data, it is separating by comma. And you could change all this when you're importing the data, we are going to actually edit this data. So what we're going to do is write bring the data right into our query editor on this is where you get to transform any data that you bring in to power. Bi I desktop in the query editor. We have a number of options. We have a home ribbon on in our home ribbon weaken at new queries. Data sources manage columns keep rose, remove rose transformed at and combined data, which is where you would marriage in append queries. and transform. You have things like the data type and naming off the columns unknown. We're going to just check the data types. Now, this is pulled in as a date. This is pulled in as text as text as text. This is pulled in as a number and we can see that it is a whole number and we can see our gross value is a decimal number. So we don't need to change any of the data types. But what we're going to do is we are going to on pivot this data on, um, pivoting the data means turning the rose into the columns. So we're going toe on pivot. The units sold the gross, the sales on the net. So we're going to be keeping all of these items in the format that they're in. So if we choose on pivot columns, what we've now don't is we've moved the units sold the gross sales tax on the net down on the invoice number is now in for each time there's a replication off, invoice them with a replication of customer. I d on d off the product. I d. We can change the name of a column here by changing the name to we could say invoice details. So that's how simple it is to connect to a C S V file. And we all know the CSP files are the Holy Grail for accountants, because people will download stuff from the system that you systems all the times and the convention CSP format. So it's very easy to connect to a CSP file and transformed the data in your CSP far. Let's get some more data. And so we go to a new source on this time we're going to connect to Excel on. We have a sample file in here on this sample file. It's connecting to be foil. Now, I'm not saying that this file has two sheets, so let's look at our customer. I d on d our coast more I d is bringing in an I d. The customer name on a region, so we will select okay, because we want to bring in that shed. And now what we want to do is we want to change the first worlds to the column headers, because when a Prada, then it didn't change the first rose to headers. So we've now transformed that data by bringing the the first row into the column headers. Let's now connect to a another source of data that was in the same workbook so we can go to our recent sources on. We can go to that same Excel file on this time. We are going to take our products table and we can see our products table and we can select okay, And this is now bringing in our products table, and it's brought in our first row as headers. No problems that there's no transformations that we need to do to this particular set of data. So that is the basics off connecting to data. And as I said, there's no many different sources of data that you can connect to. You can connect to online services you can connect to Excel, file CSP five even connected text files. You can import data from multiple multiple sources on. Then you can transform the data in this query editor that we've looked at very simple transformations, but you can include calculations with in the queries. You could now add a column Andi do some workings Within the column you can marriage queries and you could upend queries, so there's a huge amount of data transformation that you can to would in the query editor. When you're complete with the query editor you close on, apply on when you close and apply. This is going to load the data into the Power bi desktop on in the next video, we're going to look at some of the steps that you can use to make reports in power Bi desktop. 5. Work with your first data set: Now that we have connected to our first data set, we connected to see SV File and we connected to an Excel workbook, and our tables of data have been pulled in, and we are in our relationship view so you can get into the relationship. You would manage relationships and you can manage the from in here, and you can alter them, manage them from within, manage relationships. Now we have a products table. Onda. We have a customer, I D table. We also have a sales table on the relationships are set up for us automatically. And if you're used to using power pivot, you'll know that the relationships the card in ality is one direction in power. Bi I. It can be two directions. We have two different types off tables. Here we have a fax table, so this contains thedailybeast, the invoice numbers and so forth. And we also have the customer a de table, which is known as a dimension table, or a filter table on a products table, which is known as a day mentioned table on a filter table. Let's have a look at the data now in the data because we didn't look at the data before we uploaded on. What we have is a customer I d in the customer, i d table. We have the customer name and we have the customer region. If we select a different table, for example, products, we have the products i d. The product's name, the category that calls price in the selling price. And then we have our sales table, which has the date. The invoice Number three customer I D product I d. We have the invoice details and that's broken down by units sold. And then we also have the latter named Andi the gross amount, and then we have the value for that as well. Now, over here on the right, we have all of our field. So these air all off the fields for all off the tables, just touching back on the relationships on the card novelty and stuff like that. In this table, we have the invoice number, and each invoice number is listed in many times the close tomorrow I d. The product i d. The invoice details. They're all listed many times in our products table. The product idea is only listed once on in our customer I d the customer. I d is only listed once, so these are one side of the table, whereas our sales table are fax. The table is a many side on. We can see that in our relationship use with this little star showing. It is a many side on this star here, showing it to many side, going to a one side. Let's look at building some quick visualization, So if we go to report, we are in our visualization screen, and here we have all of our fields down here on the visualization type. So let's just select a visualization type and let's select this visualization, and we will put into our value are actual sales. Now let's break this down by our product category, and we'll see how very quickly we have been able to break our sales down by our product category. Let's add another chart. This time we will add a pie chart on we're going to add in the customer region and we're going to add in the value so very quickly. Now we have sliced our sales by the customer region on and the value we could also look at our sales by adding a new visualization. And if we add in our date now, when we add in our date it power bi I desktop has identified date and we've only a treatment, so I know to remove quarter on a year. So now we just have month appear and I'm gonna put in my sales value for the month. Now we can see the sales for each month. Now we can click on any off these items here, and it's going to filter the other chair its force on the same. If we click on the other charity, it's going to filter the related charts. However, if you select this drill down mold, if you click in this now, drills this down by the actual month on the day. So this is sailed by the day off the particular multiple. And if we lock that in today, when we filter this, it's actually filtering down by the particular day off the month. But we have treatments, so we'll show all off the data here so you can quite easily plotted your data one table against the next. Using power bi ivory quit E, but that's just the very simple start for that, you can also do calculations to your data on in the next video. We're going to look at adding measures or adding calculations to your data form or insights . What I would suggest that you do now is you go ahead and you play with this data set. Look at all the different visualization types. Drop in some data now. We haven't looked at calculated measures, and we haven't looked at the way that tables relate to each other using calculated measures . So you may find that some off the values that you drop in don't actually work. That's one of the things that we will look at in the next lesson when we are looking at creating measures. 6. Measures and more visulaisations: Let's just say you wanted to know the number off actual sales made. We don't have the number of sales brought in in our data field. So what we would have to do is we would have to create a calculation, which is called a You measure. Now you can create a new measure when you creating, you measure it to come up with this little calculator field, and we're going to say number off sales and to calculate the number Siles while we have a name voice number. But the invoice number is it's replicated number times based on the units sold them at the growth off the the Net on the gross value off the invoice so we could do is we could do a distinct camped on the sales table off the invoice number. And once we get a distinct count off the invoice number, we know we can get our number of sales so we could take our number of sales and just drag it over here and we can see the number off sales that we have now. If we use are all the graphs to filter down again, we can see that the charts interact with each other. Now we could add some MAWR information to this particular freak chart. Over here, let's add in our customer name, and now we can see the unique sales by customer name. We could remove the customer name from this chart on. Instead, we could put in the product line so we can see the number of each sales for each product on . If we look at any of the other charts, we can filter by a new off the other chart and see how the data interacts with each other. You can do formatting to your charts when you select a chart. If you select this little formatting on different carats of different formatting options so you can have your X axis on or your X axis often you can see a changing appear. You can have your That was your why access. You can also do the same with your at X access. You can change the data colors. If you wanted to change the data colors, you can show all on. You can change each one of them. If you want to change each one of them, you can turn data labels on or off. So there's your data labeled on your plot area. You can turn off the title recon, turn on the title, and you can change the title named Texas Lies on so Forth on. If there is any further analysis you can do, which you could add a constant line to this data if you wanted to add a constant lying to show a constant line on some tables, have further analysis. Some tables don't over here, you have your access. As I said before, you can have a legend. So if you wanted to drag something into the legend here, for example, the product category, you could drop into the legend on If you click on the particular product category, all of the other fields kind of hope days. We will just take that out of their color saturation tool tips. If you wanted tool tips if you wanted to add in, let's just say the number of sales into tool tips when you have are over the number of sales then comes up on the screen, and that's what your tool tips do. You can then filter this data by adding in more filters. For example, let us just say we only wanted. We could add in our product category here to this filter value, and we could filter this data only, say, by diaries. I'm not a filter the data thereby diaries or just buy envelopes and so forth so you can use filters in that way. Then you also have page level filters. Andi Report level filter builders. This is very much a basic introductory class. So once you confined yourself around, what I would suggest is again play with all of the charts. Play with the data. Some of will work. Some of it won't work because we haven't learned further analysis. You haven't learned decks on that measure that we set up was what's known as Dax, Dax and hours Russians. So it's a type off language, but it's very, very much like Excel, and it works on columns. Well, then themselves. So play around with the data, have a look at a number of different visuals, and when you have a look at the visuals, put in filters and put in page level filters and report level filters, have a look at the formatting options and have a look at the additional data we can see here with this chart Weaken out of men line. We can even add an average line to the data if we wanted to have an average line so we can see that there is different analysis available for different particular datasets. So go away now and actually play with the data. Is that play with all the visualizations? Get yourself familiar. So when you're ready to do a more comprehensive course on power bi, I you can get yourself up and running very, very quickly because you'd be familiar with a lot of the visualizations and how they work. What we're going to look at in the next lesson is we're going to start looking at power Bi Ice Services on the online side off this power bi I software that Microsoft has to offer. 7. Section 2 overview: Welcome to Section two. In this section, we're gonna look at power Bi Ice Services Power BI I Services is an online version of power bi I desktop that allows for a whole host more. You can get a free account with power bi I services or paid account before you can. You're limited to wound gigabyte of data. And if you're part of an organization, the paid services are for sharing on control of sharing reports dashboards on even. You can share things with other people in your organization. Power bi I services does a number of things and the thing I like the best of the insights you can take any set of data. Rana. True Power BI I service inside tools on para B. I will run a series of machine learning tests on algorithms to produce a set of very useful and actionable insights that you may have missed. In addition to this power. Bi I services allows you to create dashboards directly from reports, and you can also share reports online. Witten embed code. There's also a natural language code on the use of Microsoft's, Cortina said. This means that you can ask questions, debate your data in natural language. This is a really cool feature off the services. The aim off the section is to give you an overview around power beauty services so that you can navigate the user and for interface and get familiar with the main features. First, we look at signing up to the services would then look at connecting to some data on importing a power bi I desktop fire would see the insights in action on the use of favorites for dashboards will also look at it. Ensuring your data online is kept up to date on how you can embed reports to an actual website. So if you're ready, let's get stuck in. 8. Sign up to Power BI services: what we're gonna look at it is how to actually sign up for power. Bi I services. So I'm here in Google on I'm just going to do a Google search for Microsoft Power B I, and we get this Microsoft Perot beer I website that comes up. We can click straight into this, and this is the power bi I website, and in here you can sign in or you can sign up for free. And assigning hope is what I want to show you how to do. They were signing up for the power bi I services. So it's not the desktop that you want to download. It's the sign up option that you want to click. And when we come in here, the first thing that asks you four is an email address to get started on. When you put in your email address, it's going to send you on a verification code. Now, the email address that you use is very important. You cannot use a free mala dress like a Gmail account or a Yahoo account or ah, Hotmail came, So you have to have a proper work email address, so I pop in my email address and I select get started on this will. Then send me an email. As I said, with a verification code, Onda, we will get to creator account. So if you put in your first name your last name, create yourself a password on, then go to your email and get the email verification code that they sent you on where your company's located on. Then you can press start now by pressing start. You're agreeing to the terms on condition, so have a read of them if you want to. Now, wouldn't you press start? You will be brought into this. Get data screen. Let's just have a quick look around. What you're in is your workspace. You can see your and get data off services over here to the right. You have notification, so if you have any notifications, you'll see them coming in. Here. You have your settings where you can see how much of your personal storage is used so you're given one gigabyte of storage for free. It's from within here that you can create content Paxson view content. Paxson will discuss them later around along with get gateways. There's also some settings so in your settings. You have preview satin Seaview, Your general, your privacy, your language close came to developer. There is some things you can turn on for maps. There is some settings for dashboards, data sets, workbooks, alerts on subscriptions. I'm doing that and we look at these as we go through the videos. Now, we also have an option to download over here on the right, we have help and support. You can send your feedback. And then there is just your Kent over here on the left, you have your navigation pane. So any feature dashboards that you add to featured dashboard is the dashboard that's going to be on your screen when you open up? A. When you sign into power, bi I services you then have favorite ikan dashboards to your favorite so you can quickly get them. You have your workspace, so you've got all your content and I'm nothing in here cause it's boring. You can't We have dashboard any reports that we've set up on any data sets. So let's just go back to get data on. We're going to take off from here in the next video where we're going to connect to We look at the types of tired, but that we can connect to on. We will then go ahead and start to connect to some data. So go ahead now and make sure you sign up for power bi I services so you can work along with the next couple of videos. 9. Publish a report from Power BI Desktop to services: I am in power bi I desktop at the moment and we're gonna look at publishing a report to Power bi I services that this particular report that I'm going to publish is a sentiment analysis that I carried out armed this guy and Kenny. He is the leader off the finna Gail political party in Ireland. He's also currently the T shirt, and I'll just say currently, anybody Irish that's watching will currently understand what I'm talking about. But this is a sentiment analysis off indicate his Facebook page. All off the data is publicly available, so I'm not sharing anything here that's not publicly available on. We have done an analysis, um, his basically on the sentiment so it can see that in 2016 there wasn't 89 posts. We could see the number of shares we could then see the sentiment in the breakdown of the sentiment. We can see the posts on. We have a second page to this report where we analyzed the comments made against, and the Candies actual posts on. We have a word cloud here on. We have comments by post by year and by month so we can see the comments by the number of posts, we can actually see the top comments on the's sentiment of them. We can see sent sentiment, analysis and come top contributions. So this data is all publicly available from and to Kenny's Facebook page know anybody can produce a report like this using power bi I. But what we're going to do is we are going to publish this report now to power bi I services. So in our home tab in power bi I there is a published bookie on this, then allows you because I'm already logged into you need to be loved in. So this now allows me to actually publish this to power bi I desktop now or to power bi I services. Now, when it publishes, you can open up in power bi I or you can run your quick insights and I'm gonna straightaway room quick insights and we sing quick insights in a previous video. Now, what I have actually imported is a sentiment analysis, but this will do a different type of analysis for me. This is going to go through the algorithm on the machine learning that Microsoft has already done on. It's gonna go true. My data and it's gonna come back with these quick insights on these quick inciter. Absolutely fantastic. So we can see, for example, this particular post has notable mawr comment like aims for sentiment. Negative. Then any other particular post on weaken scroll down and we can see the come and like came to has the top common life came so you can see people that are actually engaged with the page very easy. We can see the camp from name by sentiment to come and can't, like, buy from name. So there's a whole host of data here now that the insights have actually given me. I don't forget, we can now pin data to our dashboard. So let's just say we wanted our comment like him so we can pin this on. I'm going to create a new dashboard on Let's call this and sample Facebook. I'm just going to pin it so that's now being pinned to my dashboard. So let's come over here. Andi Weaken. See our dashboard here, our sample Facebook dashboard, and we can click on that. There is the visualization that I have pained to my dashboard. Now we can go down to reports on if we go down to reports. What we can see is the report that we had created in power Bi desktop. So all of the information is here that we had on para B my desktop. So both pages are available so we can see the report very easy and very clearly now what we can also do then is we can pin these items to our dashboard. So let's just say we wanted to pin this to our dashboard and we also wanted to pin the posts to our dashboard on. We can then go back to our dashboard and we can see these items have now being pinned to our dashboard. What we're going to do in the next lesson is have a look mawr at the actual dashboards after moving the tiles around the dashboard, sharing the dashboards, having favorites on adding feature dashboards 10. Connecting to data in power BI Services: We're going to have a quick look at the get data options in Power bi I services. So there's two main options. There's content packs in libraries and there's import or connect to data. Now the content. Pachter libraries. If you have content packs saved by your organization or saved by yourself, they're going to be bound in here. His whole host of online services. You have your accounting insights for sage 50 a job as or you have Google analytics. You have mail chimp. You have Microsoft Dynamics. You have all the typical quick books. All the typical connections that you know from Herbie I desktop are available in here for you to actually connect to. You can then connect to files so you can connect to Excel Files para B I files or CFE files and would have a very quickly look at that. Now in a second on DWI can also then connect to databases such as the Spark or the ZUR databases that's quickly connect to a local power. Bi I file that I have saved you will say open on it is importing the sample fire now, once the file has in Portage ill say your data set is ready and you can get quick insights . And when you get quick insights, what will happen is power bi I online services will go through a whole heap of algorithms. Andi machine learning on that to come back with insights about the data that you have. So the insights are ready so we can now view the insights. So any time you connect to a new data source, you will get that auction to view the insights. Now, what happens when you view the insights? Well, you can get trends, so it gives you a whole host of graphs and it gives you actual trends. So the trans here is your to say, you're too year to date sales is trending upwards with seasonality, and you can see the graph and get data from the actual graph. And if you click on the graph, it brings you into that graph on its own. Now, when you're in the graph, you can then also get further insights to the particular graph from would in the graph, and you can scroll down there and you can see other insight off your actual sales. But let's just close back out of this exit. Focus. Mold on Have a look at some mawr off. The insights that we have been given well, we've been given came off the total households by actual sales rap again with different points off interest. So we have ever tires such as category out Flyers Dublin and Cork have notably Mawr previous year. Today tales for the week off the 50 tree. Well, there wouldn't be 53 weeks in every year. So that would be why we see we have a scatter plot here where we can seek Gloucester's grouped together. So what this will do is it to find out flyers or to find all off the data that they think is important by applying these algorithms? And like I said, you can go into one of these on. You can get further insights by clicking into the further insights. Bolton. If you find in insights that you are particularly interested in, what you can then do is you can pin that visual to a dashboard. Now I've no dashboards sat up, so this dashboard has been set up a sample five based on the sample file name, I could set up a new dashboard, But let's just leave that on. Let's a pin on that's now pinned to my dashboard. So if I look at my dashboard with see that this has now being pinned on our dashboard, we can resize any of these tiles. We can go into focus mode, so the dashboard is there, so we can just look at things extremely quickly. Let's go back to our data set for a moment, and this is the data set that we actually imported. Now, when you import the data you will get if you import a power bi I file you get any measures that you have set up will actually be imported along. It's very easy to create reports. It's exactly what you learned in the power bi a course that you may have taken with me. So we're not going to go true. Setting up reports too much in power, bi I, but we'll just filter thes tires with some data and we'll expand these tires, make them a little bit bigger so people can see them on. That's basically how you could build a report, then with in power bi I. Now, if there is any visual interactions with the charts. You can click on the chart and see the particular interactions by clicking on the in directions button you cannot shapes textbooks on. Then you can explore by actually seeing the data. You can export the data from this little golden here. You can switch to horizontal layout on, and you can also pin items back to your particular dashboards. As I mentioned in another video, I would recommend that you do all your workings in power bi desktop because all your measures and everything could be set up in there on. Then you can import your data. You can view additional insights that air provided by power beyond compare them to the inside. You've come up with yourself. What we're going to do next is I'm going to show you how you can actually share reports that you created in power Bi desktop into power. Bi I services 11. Power BI dashboards: we're going to look at working with a dashboard now in power bi I services. So I've pinned all of these tiles to my dashboard. Andi, this dashboard is named sample F because it's from my sample Facebook page. Now what we can do is on each tile you consume in to each tire on when using zoom into each hardly can also then get additional insight. And we looked at additional insights in previous videos on the additional insider. Absolutely awesome. So we're gonna exit focus mode. But if we click on these dots and we're gonna pick a bigger graph here, a bigger visualization here to look at it. If you click on the actual dots, we get a heap of options. The first option is to go into focus mode so we can go into focus mode. That way, the second option is to get the insight ikan. Just pull up the related insights as well. True this you can pin this, you can export the diver if you want to export the data Now, this is quite important. You can also add it the tile details. So we have posts by sentiment here. If you wanted to change the title on the subtitle You concealed From What In here. You can also remove a title or a post or some title you can display the last time that the data was actually refreshed, and you can also set a custom links off. Somebody clicks on it. It goes directly into the link and then press. Apply now From what? In here. Then you can also delete the tired if you wanted to leave the tile and you can go directly to the report that this time has being generated from by Jews clicking that little button there to go to the report. So they're the options within here now, because this is a dashboard on the's are all tiles you can resize thes, and you can move thes around as much as you want. So let's have a look at re sizing thes tires on moving these tiles around. If you could Dan to the bottom or any corner off one of the child's and you'll see that corner booking, we just grabbed this. You can resize your tile and replace the tile, moved the tiles around your dashboard so they're in the order that you want them to be, and you're not stuck to the order in which they come in so you can move your dashboard around as much as you want to see the important information to you as it stands. So that's how you just move all your data around. In addition to this, what you can do is you can add dashboards to feature dashboards on two favorites. Dashboards. Now, when you have an awful lot of dashboards, it's very easy. You know, you could have loads of dashboards down here as you work true power Bi I on as power bi I becomes more popular on a daily software that's used by a lot of organizations, So what you can do is you can add a dashboard to your favorites. So if you click up here, this has been added this dashboard to your favorites. If you go to favorites, you can see this dashboard has Bean added two favorites. You can also add this dashboard or at a dashboard as a featured dashboard. Now, when you add a dashboard as a featured dashboard, it goes into your featured dashboard. Appear on is the dashboard that gets opened automatically when you sign in to power bi I In addition to this, what you can also do from this green is share your dashboards so you can give access by E mount on. If you're set up with a company, you can you can allow other groups. If you have groups set up, groups will come in here and you can share your dashboard with all their people. There is currently no way that you can embed a dashboard into a website. You can share the dashboard. Would other power bi our users? But you cannot embed a dashboard into a website using the i frames that they have, or even currently using any AP eyes that they have. But in the next video, what I'm going to show you is how you can actually embed a report into a website. If you do wish to embed some information 12. Embed a Power BI report: we are back in our reports view now, and we're looking at this report that we added in What we want to be able to do is we want to be able to share this report on a website. So you congenital rate A i frame by selecting file published to Web, and then you'll get this in bed cold dialog box, which opens up you. Now you can get a link which you can email to people. Or you can just have a link in your website to the report or you can embed this would in I frame on the I frame code is there for you and then you can change the sizes and all you have to do is copy the cold and peace the culture website and you can embed any report any power bi I services report straight into your website. I just want to show you quickly because we haven't looked at this yet. If I select any chart and I say explore, we have options here to see data show the next level, expand the next level drill up, drill down and see records isn't available here, but dependent on the data set that you have. There are certain things that you can actually explore would in the particular data set that you have. You can also then edit the report. And this will bring up your visualizations in your field lists that you would be very familiar with from power bi I desktop. We can go back to the reading view. We have view options so we can fit page fit with actual size and so forth. We can pin this live page to a dashboard so we can take the whole report. Andi, pin this particular report in total to the dashboards. He can pin it live. That means them when you update your dad on. When you said when you create date ways to update your data, it'll automatically update in your featured dashboard in the next lesson. Well, actually, look at creating gateways on what gateways actually do for you. 13. Personal Gateway in Power BI: So you've created all of your dashboards and all of your reports on you want to be able to have thes automatically update from the services that you've connected to. So if their power bi I work books on your desktop or of their excel workbooks on your desktop or if you're connected to a service on what you need is a connector gateway so you can connect power bi I services online to your computer so you can update all of the data. To do this, you go to your downloads button on downloads. You have doubt a gateway. And if you clicked out of Gateway, what you want to do is you want to down load the gateway. And once you download the gateway, you can run. The gateway on basically, a tells you is that of the acts as a bridge between on premises, data and power bi I in power bi ups and so forth. I'm going to click next Andi. It gives us the type of gateway that we need so in on premises gateway or a personal gateway, I wanna sect a personal gateway because this can only be used by me, whereas an on premises. Gateway is used for companies and stuff like that. So I'm gonna click next on, it'll go through the on premises data Gateway installer, and then we have to go true. A quick install process. So I'm gonna click next, and it's telling me that I'm going to put it onto a laptop. Now, the thing with this is you get some warnings here, I'm going to accept the terms and conditions. If you're installing this onto a laptop, when you sh agile the updates to be doing, your laptop needs to be to be on or the gateway won't be able to connect. So if you're connected to a WiFi and your wife, my drops, that could be a problem with the update happening. But if you're connecting to a computer, not a laptop to an actual computer, you might not have the same problems in the same warnings won't come appear as if you're connecting to a laptop once it's installed. Tells us that we need to configure some settings so we will lunch. And when we say lunch asks us to sign into power bi I So I just signed in runs true a a few quick checks on we then get a success and telling us to go to power. Bi, I ducked calm to complete the settle on that. We need to re enter credentials for the data source on. Then we can select finish. Now, if we click on our data set on the dots. Here we have a shed Yule refresh. And in here we can actually shared. You are refreshes. So we have a connection gateway that we have actually already connected to. We have a data source credentials. So your data source company refresh because the credentials are invalid. So I would need to reenter my credential so I'd have to re luck into Facebook and relax into the web here I can then sh agile the refresh for when I want to actually try to refresh the data. And I can schedule at the moment because my data sources haven't been updated. We then have the allow the Q and A and Cortina. This is the natural language low cortina to access this data set. So this will only share this information with power bi our users who actually have access to it. You could say OK and you can apply to that. It means the natural language. Questioning is a lot easier on. Then. If you wanted to add featured natural language questions, you could actually at them here and they come up in the tips. Then when people go to ask questions and we look at the natural language in a separate video. So that's how you set up your personal gateway so you can ensure that your data automatically updates on Refreshes on that your visualizations and your dashboards in power . Bi, I are up to date off the time. 14. Content packs case study: Mailchimp and Google analytics: power bi I Content packs allows you to connect to online data services so you can actually really bring your data to life. As it says here on the power bi ice cream, the content packs give you a Siris of pre built reports and dashboards based arm. The data that's available on this content packs for many different things. There's contents packs for salesforce. For Microsoft Dynamics. There's content packs for Google and analytics. There's content packs. Forget hope. So let's have a look at Google analytics on that. Let's also have a look at male chip. It's extremely easy to use. Anybody can use it on. Anybody can use it for free. So if you want to get into business intelligence and looking at dashboards, this is a really, really good way to get started. So I'm going to sign into my power. Bi, I can't on. When I signed in, I I'm brought to the get data page. Now anybody can register for a power bi ie count for free so everybody can actually use this to analyze their data. So when we have lugged in, we have welcome to power bi I and we have content packs on. If we select get it would give us a list off the content packs that are available. So there's accounting insights for Sage 50 there's a Dope Analytics application analytics. You can see there's a whole suite off content packs for which you can use Google Analytics . Get hope. Male Chimp. We're going to use the Google Analytics on the mail Chimp on. But you can see Microsoft Dynamics is their mind. Your own business accounts is there QuickBooks online? Is there salesforce? Is there stripe is there SQL databases or their spark posts are there. There's a lot of stuff available where you can connect to your data source on. You can use thes pre defined dashboards and reports. So the 1st 1 work on a connect to is we are going to connect to Google Analytics on when you click into it just gives you a little bit details about it, and what we're gonna do is select. Get now. No, when you select, get now you need to actually connect. You'll need to put your credentials in and we're going to connect. We're going to just sign in on it is asking me if I would like to sign in. So now it is signing me in and it's going to my Google analytics on its found all off the camps that I have. So if I just go to the professional training Academy Andi, I want to select one property on the property I'm going to select is the Excel Club. Andi, I want to view all the website data for the exile club and I can import. So that's me connecting just to one off my websites within all off the websites that I have available in my Google Analytics. Now you can connect to a number of the man you can mix the data up together. But one thing while this is importing, because it does actually take a couple of minutes the first time you connect when you run reports in power bi I services using the connection, the reports so we can now view our data center. We can get quick insights. I'm going to roam the insights. First, you should always run the insights first. So then notify us when it's ready. When you connect to these online services and you used the connector pack what, You're not able to do is you are not able to actually go to power Bi I desktop on download the file as a Power bi i desktop violin viewers in Power Bi desktop. So that's one thing you're not able to do. You can, however, share the dashboards. You can pin items from the reports to the dashboards, and you can work with them in the same way, really, as any other data set. So here we have my quick insights for Google Analytics, so we have our unique page views. We have a time. Siri's out. Liar. So we have Page view shows several so forth. We have exits. We have sessions page views on exit over a plot chart we have two seems to be a correlation between sessions and bounces. The We have a graph there on sessions, so we get a lot of information from the insights alone there you may not have actually just picked up from looking at the dashboards or the charts. So that's the first thing is the insights that you get there for many of these insights. If you wanted to pin one particular one to a dashboard, you can click on this little button here to pin it to the dashboard on. I'll show you the dashboard now in a moment. So what this has done is this is now added a data set into your data sets. So if we go into Google Analytics, we are in our data set, and over here we have all off the actual data. You can see all of the data over here in our fields on then We have the calculations that have been carried out by whoever created this content pack for us. And these calculations are tax calculations. You can use any of these fields to create visualizations on. Do you can create the visualizations using this visualization pain here. But we already have a syriza of visualizations created for us by the content pack. So we have peace ites traffic for 90 days and then we have the average session. He hits the balances. Total sessions, thes days of the week. We have another charity here down the bottom. Then we have pages. So this report is spread over a number of pages. So we have thesis TEM usage and we have reports there for device. Can't agree. The browser We have a map there showing details by map. We also get a total users report. So total users for the last 30 days on we can see the total users in these chariots. Now these charts are interactive. Woody to there is well, so when you click on an item with in the chart, all the older chart should automatically update. And if you click away in the white bar, it brings you back to the full chart view. Here's our page performance. 480 days. So our average page load time. So I seem to have a problem there on the sixth of January with my page load. Andi, I also seemed to have a small tree. I have some trouble since December with my redirection time. Then I can have a look at my top pages for the last 180 days on. This is sorted by three unique page views. You could also sort it by the entrance or the exits. We have our total page views here as well. So there the reports that have been produced by this content pack. And as I said before, if you wanted to take the likes of this charity and painted to a dashboard. It's select Pinter dashboard. It would ask you what dashboard you would pin out on. You would then find it in the dashboard. But before we go amending the dashboard given to us by Google analytics, let's have a quick look at the one that we have actually being given. So we've been given our site traffic. We've been given our average daily new users for the last 30 days. I m average daily users weekday new user percentage growth hits by browser sessions by days of the week. We've been given quite a lot of information in our dashboard. Now, if we in our dashboard click into one off these particular items, what it does is it brings you directly. Toothy reported Jim's it down to the report that the visualizations originally came for came from, So that's connecting toothy Google Analytics content pack. Don't forget. What you can do with this in the data set is you can create your own share. It's now because you have calculations in here so you can create your own visualizations as you could add the's visualizations to a dashboard or to a report You don't have to just stick with the reports that have been given to you. So let's have a look now at connecting two male chimp to connect mail Chimp, We will go to get data on again. We will go to content packed library and services and in here we will find mail Chimp on and we will get it now and we're now connecting to mail Chimp. Now what you are being asked for here is to sign into your mouth. You became so I'm just going to sign in on the power. Bi I connector is no connecting. Andi is importing the data for me and it just says there could take a little while to import the data. And I've opened up street here on our dashboard. But don't forget now. We also have the reports on We have the data set so we can have a look at our data set. And over here on our fields list, we have all the fields off data that are available to us. We also have any calculations and measures are included in here. Like we have this click rate calculation included in here so we can create visualizations using this visualization pain. But if we go to our reports, we can see in our reports. Ah, whole suite of reports has actually bean created for us. Now, what I'm gonna do is because I have a number of lists. I am going to add it this report on I just want to pull in the data for one off my lists. So if I go to my lists on in my lists, if I take name and I take name and put it into the report level filter, this is going to take the report and it's going to filter it by a particular list. So I wanted just by my exile club list so I can close that on this report now has been filtered just by the campaigns for the exile club are going to make this one a little bit bigger so you can see with these tiles, you can move them around, you can resize them. So let's select a particular campaign and we can see how many emails were sent. How many resent successfully, heavily were opened him and he clicked him any unsubscribed where the Opens were just from that one particular campaign. That's the campaign overview. We can then go into our list overview, and I've already filled to the whole report for just this list, so I only have one list over here. So this report just relates to the list that I'm looking looking at on my average open rate for this let list is almost 35%. My last email was sent out on the 25th of January. My last unsubscribe was the same day. We have a campaign comparisons report so you can compare campaigns within this report seeking click arm campaigns, and you can have a look at the particular campaigns and to clear this filter and look at the mall again. We also have the list composition. So this is Member came by name. We have the type of device that they're using. We have then broken down by groups. If you have groups set up, you can see the groups with in here. On def, we go to our click analysis. We can then see the clicks on any links that we put into our email campaign. So I had to tips this week and they these are the links and you can see the unique campaign . You are a link and then the total clicks so you can see some people there clicked more than once this particular link. By the way, before I forget to say If you are finding this video useful, please do give it the thumbs up and don't forget to like and share. You can also post any comments or feedback below the video. And don't be afraid to share this video, which your friends on which your colleagues. So after this, if you have automation set up in your mail chimp, you can see details off. Your automation is here in your mail, Jim. So that's very much a quick look around the reports and the aim of this video is just so you can get familiar to see how quick it is to import data or to connect to data using power. Bi I services under connector packs on know very, very little about power bi I or Power bi I services to be able to get insights to your data that you wouldn't normally see very easily by looking at the reports available for you in Google Analytics or in male chimp So let's have a look at the dashboard that I am going to save the report. Let's have a look at the dashboard now on the dashboard now is giving us details off all off our data. If you click on any off these charts, you can go into focus mode for the particular chart on Then you can get insights once you have run your insights at the start so you can get in mawr insights to each particular visualization that's available in your dashboard. So we have our list activity so we can click into earliest activity, bringing us into focus mode, and we can then wrong the insights on our list activity so we can see from these insights that we have other ads. We have subscribers, and we've got loads of other data that's brought in from our other insight. Now, unfortunately, I wanted to show you the natural language in this lesson, but for some reason it's not actually working for me today, so I'm gonna have to do it in another video tutorial. So that's it. That is the power bi I content packs. Oh yes, One last thing. If you're in an organization you can create your own content packs on If you click this little settings. Here, you have created content packs, and when you bring this in, you can choose who you want to share would give it a title description on an image on. Then you can shoot the dashboards that you want to share, and you can publish it now. I'm not going to actually do it because I haven't got anybody I want to share with. But that was just so you could see how to create your own content packet. So go ahead now and connect to your Google analytics. Have a look at the data. Have a look at the insights that it's given you and also connect your mail ship account. And you may be able to create a dashboard containing data from both your mail chip under Google Analytics, reports showing correlations between when emails are sent out on bond activity on your website. So I hope you enjoyed this video tutorial. Goodbye now 15. Conclusion: congratulations on reaching the end of this course should know. Feel like you've received a good orientation to power. Bi I What we covered in this course was rather simple power bi I query editor is a very powerful tool on there's a lot more to learn them. What I demonstrated in this course tax data analysis expressions another powerful tool. Many of the functions you will be familiar with in excel er also available index. However, ducks has a unique list functions functions that allow you carry out calculations across multiple tables off data the visualizations are available so that you can actually tell a story which your diver selecting the krayer correct visualization. It does take time and it does take practice. Finally, we looked at power bi I services the reports, the dashboard on the insights And again we only looked at some of the functions available in power bi i services, but I'd recommend the historicity used Publish your report Even if you don't want to share them that way, you can use the power bi I insights tool to run machine learning on your doctor. What happens after this isn't now with you you are now ready to look at a more advanced power Bi I course am related courses such as tax or any language. All you need is a little imagination on some data, and you'll be very surprised at what you can achieve with power. Bi, I I wish you all the best with your hope. Take off power. Bi I Did you have any questions or comments? Please don't hesitate to contact to me because your feedback is very, very welcome. Thank you for selecting this course on.
