1. Introduction to The Course: Hi and welcome. My name is marching Mikos and I am Photoshopped instructor. I've been teaching Photoshopped for over three years, and I have learned thousands of people around the globe. My tutorials has been seen over three million times. It's quite possible you notice how popular family photography became these days. Turns off beautiful Children, family, poor trades on the Web and probably men off. Your is thinking how come this image is so beautiful how they get such a beautiful skin and colors off the image? Well, I'm going to tell you this. The one think you have to do is to get this course no matter who you are. If you are someone passionate about photography, if you love to take pictures off your family off your Children, if you have tons off images from holiday from the weekends you spend together or pictures you took at home, or maybe your photographer who wants to extend the business and you're not sure how to retouch family images, how to get this perfect full off life colors. This course is for you. In this course, I'm showing you the process from the beginning until the final color advancements no matter , it will be picture taken in the studio at home or outside. I explained every step off family retouched toe. Make sure you will create fantastic images. 2. Retouching Tools: before we start to do anything, you have to know a few things about what we need to do on the image. I don't want to start the retouch and explaining you all the time. What what I'm doing, because I know it can be a problem for you. So I want to tell you everything you need to know before you start working with your image . And before you start toe changing anything on the image off the child, you have to do. So let's on this image even a little bit more. The first lesson and the first step we always do is cleaning up. Simply clean up. I call the retouch like this so the same us on adult. We have to do a little bit off the retouching, a little bit off the skin, retouching on the little child. It looks a little bit different than normal retouch, however, it's still very important because if we don't know this, the image my look a bit weird. Later on, when we work with the contrast or anything like this, the things that are not perfect can be even more visible. So have a look on this image and everyone come angry. The things that needs to be fixed, we see a little bit off the red areas over here. Off course. I don't want to remove this totally, but let's clean a little bit off the red spots from this area. And the second thing that it's a very visible on this image is this area over here for sure . It doesn't look so well, and I don't think it's the natural color off the child. But maybe that was wrong, cried or just in their camera, Especially when it's not that professionals sometimes can pick up some of the weird colors . So for sure these things we have to work on a little bit on the cheeks and a little bit over here. And after this, I'm going to show you how to smooth your skin without making your child looking like a dull without making dull from your child. Actually, I've seen many pictures. I've seen many photographers that doing plastic skin on the image, and we have to all agree it just doesn't look well. So how toe smooth the skin in natural way. How to make the skin look really nice. In photo shop. We have few basic retouching fools. These tools are on the left side on the two panel, and the first off is this tool, which is healing brush tool. It's perfect to remove Agnes on the adults or legal spots from the image. The other one is spot here in brush Tool, which was very similar to hear him brush toe. It's so much easier to use this, however, it's not that precise. So I usually don't used is that much and the last one is patched. We can pick up the areas that it's not really that perfect. Enter place this area by order area, which contains similar skin texture. The other two is just brush toe. I usually work with Pashto when I have some colors, Tofik. So it's very great to work if we want to fix some colors and the last tool that we usually do retouching is clone stamp toe. However, they think I have to tell when I do child retouching. I don't use trans time through that much. I usually keep this forward adult, so for for Children, I usually don't use crown stamp toe that much, So now, as we know they're retouching tools, we are ready to start our basic skin retouching on our child 3. Basic Skin Retouch: And first of all, I don't want to work on this layer because I don't want to destroy this. If we goingto work on this layer, simply speaking, we going toe mess up on this layer. We don't want this. So what I'm going to do, I'm just going toe duplicate this layer to duplicate this layer. We can heat right on this air and click duplicate layer are we just can simply press control, command and J to duplicate this layer. So right now we duplicate layer, and on this layer, I usually work with patch to. When I work with different tools, I create new layer above Kenya layer to not mess up on this layer, which contains the image. So at first, I'm going to show you how can we use the patch to? In this case, we cannot use this that much. But actually, in this area, I find I have actually changed to use it. So what I'm going to do, I'm going toe select the area that I don't like and move it to the other place. And actually what you can see we replaced the texture off the imagery didn't like in the good texture. Now I'm going to grab another part and once again the same and actually what is happening, this image getting a bit better. Look all the time we cannot go got close to the edge cause it's not that easy and we can grab some of the bad areas. So that's why I usually work with very small parts. But we can work as much as we can, so let's have a look. As you can see, the skin texture is getting a bit better. I'm going to try with this one as well, and maybe here so. As you can see, it's very simple to use this. I always grab very small parts because when we grab big part, we can lose a beat off control. So they grabbing the small parts. I actually fix quite much off this area and when we go to Delhi mate, when we feel that we use all of the possibilities that gives us patch tal, we can sweet into the healing brush tool and I'm going to start working on this empty layer . So let's call this healing brush and remember, when we create new layer, check over here all layers because we have to work on the old layers. When we use this, we want toe. This effect toe went through. The other layers are swell. So let's, um, this layer and the thing with that child skin is that child skin is very soft is not like the adult skin texture. So in adults we work with huge harness. However, when it's our child, always said harness very soft because we're not going to destroy the skin texture in a way . We fix that skin texture to the better. Don't be afraid, and I usually press quite many times I usually take a clone quite many times from the area next to the one I want to fix. So it gives me usually the better results. She got to see. It looks much better now. You don't have this weird spots over here. I'm going to try to make this a bit bigger and paint with the bigger one. So we normalized this a little bit. Now I'm going to the cheeks and I'm going to do the same with the chief. As you can see, we have this little spots. I'm not going to remove men off them, but just this small spots. It's always good to remove your them to make the skin texture looks a bit better. And now let's go to the other side, do the same thing. As you can see, This contest is quite soft, but still we did a great job justice in few simple steps. The last thing I'm going to show you is crime stamp, too. I just not Is this spot over here? And after this, I'm going to show you crime stample. So I'm going to create new layer once again. And this time I'm going toe you call. This clone stamp is, um, disquiet much once again. And chrome stamp tool works really great if you want to brighten up the area so we can't do everything with healing brush so we cannot do everything with Patch tool. So that's great thing that we have a few different tools in fourth shop and every other tool is great for something. So now I'm going to use Crown Stamp, too. I'm going toe use a very soft brush and then I'm going to change the flow to the smaller one. Let me explain how flow works. I'm going to create new project. And when we choose a brush, for example and we have very soft flow, I'm going to set this around 20 and we paint over in the same area. As you can see, the color is going to build up the same. I'm going toe change the color for the blacks who will be better visibility but me stop in one place. The color is going to build up a swell, however, when we use capacity, which is very soft and we going toe paint in the same place, no matter how many times we're going to paint, the color is not going to build up to beat up the color. We have to antique or just speak up our pen and paint once over and once again, etcetera. So that's how flow works the same in the case over the clams timeto I'm going to set the very soft flow. Let's say 20 something. It gives me a nice comfort I'm going to make this size a bit smaller, and I'm going to change more for lighten how lightning works. Let's have a look. Just take a con once again and then paint once again the same in this area. So as you can see, we get in really nice effect. We can smaller size and paint as many times as we need until we get the perfect look. So when we get there, let's have a look. As you can see, we remove the bad areas from the skin. Two men make this even out the skin Around this, we can make the size bigger so we cannot notice the difference with the other parts. So that's very simple. Use off clone stamp toe. As you can see, it was red, and right now we removed the bad red areas off course. We kind of work around these to make this area look better everywhere and everywhere. When you come where you have the bad black areas, you can brighten this up using long stamped. So this is very fantastic to its perfecto Do this kind of job. So right now I'm going toe cell. It'll of this layer press control or command G. And put this to the group in this group, I'm going to call clean up. 4. Child 3 1: skin softening is very common subject in child retouch. However, I've seen many images. I have seen many photographers who's been doing this runk and the reason why cause they used to just blur out the skin off the child. That's not the point. We don't want to blurt out the skin off the child coast. It's going to look fake, so they think I'm going to do. I want toe even out the tones and colors of the skin to make this small, but I don't want to lose the texture of the skin. So how to do this? There's one technique, which is called frequency separation. It's quite basic technique, actually. It's very simple to use this, and it allows us toe keep the texture off the skin. So what is frequency separation? I'm going to try to explain to you I'm going to try to explain this to you as quick as possible and as simple as possible. So frequency separation is technique. When we goingto spirit our image for two separate images and on one image, we're going to keep information about colors and tones and the other image on the other layer. We're going to keep information about texture. So that's what we going to do. And this kind of thing allows us to work separately on the turns and separately on the texture. So what we have to do? They have toe duplicate my image twice. But at first I have to create a stamp on the top because, as you can see right now on the top, I have group. So to create a stamp of the top, we have to press out control or command shift and E. And this layer will be low frequency cause when we spirited the image in tow two layers one is low frequency, the one which contains information about colors so colors and low frequency. That's how I'm going to call this. And now I'm going to duplicate this layer control or command date, and this will be texture and high frequency. So low frequency is responsible for colors. High frequency is responsible for the texture. At first I'm going to start with this low frequency layer and what we have to do. As I said, at first, we going toe work with colors and turns and a so you can see, I replied, This all the time, so we have to blow out our details. Let's go toe filter blower and gosh in blue. As you can see, I'm going to set the radios. And what's the point of outrageous when I Kinneret this low? Nothing is happening, of course, because it just blower and I pulled are just too high. The value off right use will be smaller. If the image is bigger than mine, the value off radios will be higher. So then press OK and now I'm going toe textural layer, and I'm going to just image and apply image. So what is happening here? At first we're going to set up the source as the source. We're going to take information from the color layer. So on this layer there will be only information on the things that do not exist on this color layer. So find this color slow frequency, and then we have to set blending. Planning is subtract and scared, too, and offset 128. That's always the same value. However, that's eight bit image. If you have 16 bit image, this value over here will be different. For example, role images are 16 bit. So if you work on raw image without conversion toe, eight bit image, the value will be different. And then on the 16 beat image, the value will be out here. The blood name will be added. Skate Oh, offset Zero and we have to check the box. Invert, however eight bit image looks like this press. OK, then we have to change blending mode from normal toe building. All right, and what is happening right now I'm going to put this to the group and tell you a bit about this control or command G and I'm going to call this group F s as frequency separation. So I'm going to interact visibility on this layer. And as you can see, nothing is changing. In this group, we keep the same information as on our result, which is here. So these two layers contains exactly the same information as the original image, which was before exactly the same information. But the information are just plead for two separate layers. These two separate layers looks totally different without this, but altogether looks the same as our image. So that's why nothing is changing. And I'm going toe work on on these colors there. So I'm going to duplicate this layer there is on Why, cause I don't want to mess up on this layer. And if I'm going to duplicate even if I do a mistake, that's no problem. I'm just going toe, remove this layer and create this again. Wi Fi would need toe removed everything. So control or command J To duplicate this and what we have to do, there is option like mask which exists over here. You can press Q as well. So true. Sat first last total resume this image 74 days and pain this circle like me something like this. And then click musk Or you can just press you on your keyboard. You will see the same result and we have to get something which has this nice A blurred edges. If you're edges are not blow. You have to pull up your feather up to make soften edges. Or if that's too soft, you have to pull down your feather a little bit more. I think around this value, it's OK for me. So finally, when we do this select quite big area something like this, I'm going to select all the cheap as you can see. Then I'm going to filter Blower and goes on lower if we keep the radius Law one second. Nothing is happening. If we pull up, the rage is too high. As you can see, the skin is getting great. So we have toe pull this up very slow and find the point when their skin actually look very nice. It was too high. I think our 25 will be okay for me and I'm right. So it depends on the size of your image once again and you're going to see which value is right. As you can see, these talks over here are much better. So I'm going to do this on the rest of the skin. Where I want to feed is the toms. We can repeat this garden floor Press control Command F to repeat this and now quickly. I'm going to do this on the rest part of this image on the other areas. So it's fantastic. Metal, especially for child photography, works really great without losing texture. We're goingto fix this image really nice way a bit on the hands over here to fix this. You don't have to be scared off using days. It's not destructive. That's normal method. Nothing will happen to you. It's very safe method. If we used this clever nothing to worry about. So that's it. That was very quick. Um, fix. As you can see, we were working on this. Now we can see the result. We felt frequency separation technique, and after we use frequency separation technique, you have to say fantastic method. Our child looks so much better and what's the most important? Our child looks still natural 5. Child 4 1: after this, we want to improve all of the contours of distract. We wants to improve all of the shadows area runs to improve all of them, bright areas. So what we have to do, we going to use a dodge and burn? And I can guarantee you that after this step, this child is going to look so much food her and the impression will be nearly us. This child is going to pop out from the image. So in photo shop you have Dutch and Barry. It'll, however, what I have to tell you. I'm not using this tool that much, but I'm using something different, and in my opinion, it's much better method to use the Dutch and burn in the way I use. At first, let's talk about the fact what is dodging and burning? So there's a few things we do indulge in in burning is the 1st 1 is burning and the other one is dodgy. Burning is painting with the darkness in the darkness to improve the shadows area off the image to improve the contours, and dajun is painting into the likeness, so we going toe improve all off the bright areas of the image like cheeks hands a little bit here, So it's going to give us really nice affect how I'm doing, dodging and burning. I'm using curve adjustment layers. You can find them over here. In your adjustments, you can go true. This area curves and the first curve will be four burning. And then I'm going to create a new one. Inverted the color here. But so curve number one is as other. So as I said, we going toe pent into the darkness, some going to grab this, come over here and pull it down to the level. I will be happy. I don't want to burn this too much. So I'm going to set up the maximum value of my burn over here and then curve number two, which is Dutch. I'm going to call this Dutch, so I'm going to pull up the curve cause we going to depend with the night. So to this level, I think, And now let's inverted this layers. So control or command I and once again, control or command I. So I'm going to start with a better liar. They think you have to notice I'm going to press shift and click on this. So make this layer mask invisible. And as you can see, burn makes our image a bit to saturate it. So what I usually do, I'm going to hue saturation and I take down to the saturation to the level this image You're going to have really nice colors. I think in this case will be around 15 just like this, so you can see the difference. It's too saturated here. Here is very natural. So I'm going toe heat right on this issue saturation layer and create clipping mask So this hue saturation effect will only apply to this layer. You can see this when I open this layer as you can see nothing exchanging cause this dark color is make this layer invisible. So this effect I supplying only here. So it's invisible as well about that. The other thing about that makes cause as we paint with flights, it makes our image saturated so we can use the same thing and we can use you saturation and bring up just a little bit saturation to this layer. Not that much as before, but to make this a bit more saturated and the same once before he tried created Sleeping Mask. And we have something like this. So now all of this, I'm going to put into the one group and then control command G. And I'm going to call this Dajun burn. Now let's open this and we are ready to start working as I showed you before how the flow works. We're going to use something very similar. And remember, the color you have to have selected is color white because we have to make visibility on this dark layer. If it's black, we paint with opposite color. I'm going to choose very soft brush, which is true. Then, right now and now, I'm going to zoom this and what I'm going to do. I'm going toe paint the darkness as the contours allows me. I'm just going to paint with the counters as you can see. Nothing complicated a little bit. We can paint on the eyebrows to make them just a bit darker. And then, once again, nothing complicated. We just spent as the shape allows us to paint, have a look very soft effect as you can not ease. And that's great, actually, because I'm not looking for strong effect. If our effect is not strong enough, we going toe pull down our curve a little bit more, and the effect will be stronger as you can see. And we can actually build up this effect till the level. We will be happy because we using very soft flow, so it's going to take a while. But we have huge conference off working with this huge value off working with such a soft flow, we can be sure we're not going toe destroyed. The image just a year and here a little bit more on the contours here where shadows go, that's on this out. It'll be so so as you can see, that's all I'm doing here. Nothing complicated does improve. The country's a little bit to make this nice shape. Nice, sharpened shape I should can see after days. I'm going to truth, Dutch. The one thing I have to say, if you do any mistake, you can just truce black color and thinks the areas you wait, you think are not that great. It makes really nice impression the area is going toe look a bit bigger, so that's why I would like to do this Big Morse here and a little bit on the hand. So I'm using very soft touch in Ben. Here is the contour of the face. Here is our hands So we go in dust with contours You can see if you did this right on this layer I paint a bit more here So here how the country's goes You can paint a bit more here and have a look on the Dutch layer I brighten up this cheeks as you can see So we just Brighton in the areas we want here is hand yours cheek. So very easy to notice how we doing this. I'm going toe Remove this strength over here Maybe put a little bit too much and now it will be really great and a beat more this bright colors. I want this cheeks really pop out from the image, So don't be afraid of music. And once again, I can just bring up the curve if I think it's not enough and I think that would be old. That's our dodging and burning. That's how you do Dajun burn in really nice, simple way 6. 4a 1: another fantastic thing I'd like to show you about. Dajun burning is how to Dutch and burn her off the object. As you can see, this girl has really beautiful hair. So how can we make this her even more beautiful? I'm going toe open my dodge and burn group. I did exactly the same steps as I did before. However, I wasn't doing there basing cleaning because it wasn't necessary. This Children and 1/2 in this sport. But all of these groups are the same. I did frequency separation, dodging and burning. And now I'm going to do once again dodging and burning. But it will be very specific. Course, I'm going to do this only for the hair. And I'm going to show you how to do this regrade if we touch and burned her. So this time above this layer, I'm going to apply quite much saturation, and it's going to give me really nice effect. Of course, that black and white was just a mistake. So hue, saturation, and I'm going toe. Apply something more than 10 event, and I'm getting this really nice colors right now. I really like at this point, so let's applied this hue saturation layer, create clipping mask, saw its going toe apply only to the star player and this Dutch layer. I'm going to invert Control Command, I So I'm going to start with the burn layer. Choose a brash as before and color white flow is very soft at 2%. So it's pretty much of Salem, as I'm starting with, better have to zoom this in and change the dark area. So it's over here, so I'm going toe paid around the dark areas a little bit to make this a bit more color. Dark arrests here on the bottom, So I'm just painting over. You don't have to be really careful because it's very easy when we have such a beautiful have just paint over the same about the boy. Just a little bit over here. And now let's have a look How it looks right. It's a very small change, the hair as judged a beat dark in so we can apply even more off course. We have to use this with our head. Don't apply too much, but a fly just enough to make the hurdle beautiful. And now I'm going to the Dutch layer and using the same brush floor. 2%. It just strong, beautiful, full of life. I really love this effect. You can apply us mantras you want. Of course, you have to keep control, but it just it's really difficult to lose.
