About This Class

Perfecting the Mask

As an expansion of the concepts learned in the Basic I, this class will focus on when to use tighter masks, and when to use looser ones. Masking is, in our opinion, the most important skill to learn in Photoshop, so we’ll be spending a great deal of time perfecting your skills through actual photo examples that will be used throughout the whole course.

Some topics include:

  • Color Range
  • Quickmask
  • Alpha Channels
  • Text Masks
  • Group Masking
  • Refine Edge
  • Skin Masking
  • Vector Masks
  • Modifying Masks with Filters

I liked all the examples given of how to mask and I especially liked the Refine mask demonstration. Good explanation by teacher and overview of how to mask and options available.

Always Learning

I really enjoyed John Ross's class "Photoshop Basic 2" because after watching several youtube videos to learn how to move portraits to different backgrounds (which often include wisps of hair), I was still having difficulty. He clearly walks you through the steps of using the Refine Edge/Mask tool. Plus you'll learn lots of other very useful techniques for combining masks into groups and making complex selections faster and easier. If you are trying to learn advanced photo editing, I highly recommend this class! I also liked his speaking style and pace.
