About This Class

In this class, I'll be showing you how to create a complex ArtBrush which can be used as a component to enhance and embellish your photoart. These types of brushes can be easily made by combining together existing simple photoshop brushes, or multiple images with transparent backgrounds such as png files.

I’ve included a set of project files including a brush set and transparent images that you can download and use to follow along with the tutorial and make the same design as I do. Or you can use your own images and text to create something totally unique for you.

I hope you enjoy this class and I look forward to seeing your projects.

1. Introduction: Hi, My name is Linda Matthews and welcome to photo wider fix. In this series of classes, I'm sharing creative techniques for turning your photographs into photo watt and works of digital art. In this tutorial on demonstrating had created not brush, which can be used as a component to enhance and embellish your photo art. These types of complex brushes can be easily made by combining together existing simple Photoshopped brushes multiple images with transparent backgrounds such as PNG files. The layers can then be over laid and blended together to create a single complex brush in much the same way it's when creating any other type of digital art image. Using the techniques in this Chito riel, you can create all sorts of artistic and complex Photoshopped brushes, which you can then use over and over again in your photo shop artwork. So let's get started. I've included a set of project files, including a brush said, and transparent images that you can download and use to follow along with the Jet Auriol and make the same design as I do. I hope you enjoyed learning how to work with these creative techniques to make beautiful art brushes 2. How to set up floating windows: by default images. Openers docked tabs on the editing screen. However, I prefer to use floating windows, which allows you to easily move and reposition images on the workspace when creating photo art. I often work with multiple images at a time, so I find that using floating windows is a much easier way to copy and paste and drag images from one place to another. If your image is currently openers tabs on the editing screen, there are several different ways that you can change them to. Floating windows are the temporarily or permanently. You can temporarily change to floating windows by clicking on the image tab and dragging it from the dock. Or you can go to the main menu and select window. Arrange floating window for a single image will float all in windows to float the mall. You can also change this setting permanently said that any documents you open will automatically float for windows. Choose edit preferences workspace awful Mac. Choose Photoshopped preferences workspace, then de select open documents as tabs. You can also select or de select enable floating document window docking when checked. This setting allows you to dock the floating windows as a tab if you want to. When de selected, you won't be able to dock the windows at all. You can also make sure that the window frame resize is when zooming for windows. Choose edit preferences tools or for Mac. Choose photo shop preferences tools, then check zoom. Resize is windows known. You consume in and out using keyboard shortcuts. Control plus for Windows or command Plus for Mac to zoom in and control minus for Windows or command minus for Mac. Just amount and the window frame will resize automatically, as you assume you will then need to restart photo shop for these preferences to take effect . 3. How to make an ArtBrush using Photoshop brushes: to get started designing an art brush using Photoshopped brushes create a new blank file size 550 pixels wide by 660 pixels high by 72 pp. I with a white background. The white background will make it easy to see the images as we work. So if the file to your desktop and name it butterfly aunt brush, you want to save the file using the PST format in order to preserve the layers so you can easily make changes later if necessary. You'll also want to make sure to save the file each time you make a change to it so you don't lose any of your work. Now you need to locate the Butterfly Arte brush dot a BR brush file that was included with your project files and loaded into photo shop. This file contains the simple brushes that will use to create the aunt brush. Use keyboard shortcut B to select the brush tool, then click the brush preset picker and from the fly out menu, select import brushes. Brown's to the folder where the project files that came with this tutorial are located and open. The folder called brushes, click on the Butterfly Arte brush dot a B R filed toe highlighted, then click load. Once you've done that, you'll see that the brushes have bean appended to the bottom of the current brush set, located in the brush preset panel. No, we'll get started designing a rock brush. Click the add a new layer icon to add a new layer above the white background and name it. Gotta fly one. Click on the layer to selected, then select the butterfly. One. Brush from the brush preset panel by hovering your mouse over the little thumbnail images. The name of the brush pops up so you know which one to choose. Make sure the foreground color is set to black, then click once on the working document near the bottom. To apply the brush, add a new layer above the butterfly one layer and name it butterfly, too. Click on the layer to selected, then select the butterfly to brush. Click once on the document near the middle. To apply the brush, add a new layer above the butterfly to layer and name it Butterfly. Three. Click on the layer to selected, then select the butterfly. Three. Brush click once on the document near the top. To apply the brush, you should know, have three butterflies stamped on the document, each on a separate layer. Use keep on short cut V to select the move to and rearrange. Each of the butterflies said that they appeared. Follow each other in a nice, curved flow. To rotate the images, click on an image than hover your mouse near one of the markers on the bounding box. You'll notice that it turns into a curved pointer. If you can't see the bounding box, make sure that the show transform controls. Option on the brush menu is checked. Rotate the image on the bottom slightly to the left, the image at the top slightly to the right. Then tilt the image in the middle somewhere in between. Once the images a rotated, make sure they appear to be centered on the document. Add a new layer above the butterfly layers and name it coffee. Stain with the layer highlighted. Select the brush tool, then select the coffee stain brush. When you hope with this brush over, the image is you'll notice that the brush is too large to fit on the document. However, this is nothing to worry about. Offer the brush said that it circles and has centered around all of the butterflies, and the left edge is cut off, then click once on the image To apply the brush, you may want to adjust. The butterflies slightly said that they fit inside the circle area. Drag the coffee stain layer below the butterfly layers and change the A pass ITI to 30%. Changing the capacity likes the image less obtrusive so that it blends into the butterfly images. Add a new layer above the coffee stain layer and name it grid. Select the great brush, then hope for the brush so that it slightly overlaps the butterfly on the bottom. Click once on the document to apply the brush. Click on the add lamb are sky khan and you'll see that lay. A mosque has been attached to the grid layer. We'll use this lame ass to remove the section of the grid that overlaps the butterfly. Wings. Using a layer mask will ensure that the original image is not destroyed, which makes it easy to make changes to this layer. If necessary. Click on the lam US to select it, you'll know that it's selected because the border appears around the edges. Make sure that the color black is set to the full grand color. Then select the grunge one brush. Carefully run the brush along the butterfly wings to remove the part of the grid that overlaps it. You can see on the lay a mosque that this area is now painted with black. If you make a mistake while masking out certain areas, simply change the foreground color toe white and paint over the area that you want to fix. Then change the foreground color back to black and where you do it at a new layer above the grid layer and name it letter. Select the letter brush, then on the brush panel changed the rotation to minus five degrees to make it slightly askew. You can change the brush rotation manually in the brush preset picker panel, but you can change it more accurately in the brush settings panel by setting the angle. If you can't see the brush setting panel on the main menu, go to window and select brush settings and you should see the panel of here center the brush on the working document and click ones to apply it and change the layer rapacity to 30%. To fight the image into the background. Little click on the add layer mask icon and you'll see that a layer mask has been attached to the letter layer. Make sure that the color black has said, is the full ground color. Then select the grunge to brush. Make sure that the lay a mosque is selected, then carefully run the brush over each of the butterflies to remove the lettering and also randomly click on different parts of the letter to remove portions off it so that the letter appears a little faded in French Ill at a new layer above the little Leah and name it scratches. Select the scratches brush than half of the brush close to the left edge of the document and click ones to apply it. I had a new layer above the scratches, Leia, and name it rough edge. Select the roughage brush, then hope for the brush close to the bottom edge of the document and click ones to apply it . Click on the add lamb, my sky con to adding you lay a mosque. Make sure that the color black has said it's the foreground color. Then select one of the grunge brushes. Reduce the brush opacity to 50% then run the brush over the right side of the rough edge. Stamp to soften, faded out If you brush away too much, use keyboard shortcut X. Just swap between black and white is the full grand color and redo the area that needs fixing. The color black will removes and the color white will add it back. You could continue adding other stamps to the yacht brush. However, I think the design looks good, so we'll stop at this point. If any of the elements of the design need to be adjusted, simply select the layer and reposition it until you happy with look of things. 4. How to make an ArtBrush using transparent images: in a similar way to creating a complex designed by combining single brushes. You can also create a complex designed by combining images. Best type of images to use are those with transparent backgrounds, such as images saved in PNG format. Because PNG images don't have a background, you can easily overlay them one on top of the other to create your design. Let's see how this works like a new document. 550 pixels wide by 660 pixels high by 72 PB I with a white background. Then I panel the PNG images that are included with your resource is download and place them on. The new document arranged, um, to create the same design as we did When using the brushes. You can see that using PNG images gives you exactly the same result. You could even combine both images with transparent backgrounds as well as brushes to create your designs. 5. How to save the design as an abr file: to save the designers a brush that you can use over and over again on the main menu. Select edit. Defined brush Preset. The brush named dialog box will open so you can give the brush her name. I've called this brush by the fly out brush. When done, click OK. Select the brush tool, open the brush preset picker, and you can see that the brush has been appended to the bottom of the current brush. Sit. Let's make a new file and try out the brush. Make a new file. Select the brush and click wants to stamp on the document. You can see that all the individual elements that were used to make the original design have been compiled into one brush. If you turn off the white background, you can also see that the background of the brush is transparent. Even though the original image had a white background when the image was converted into a brush, it made the background for the brush transparent. It's worth noting that this transparency feature only works when the background of the image or design that you're converting into a brush is white. At this point, the brush has been added only temporarily to save the brush permanently, so you can use it over and over. You need to save it as an A B R file, select the brush tool, open the brush preset panel and click on the brush to select it. Open the fly out menu and select exports. Selected brushes. Now you can browse to the folder where you want to save the file and give it a name. I've called it, but a fly out brush complete. Now, whenever you want to use the brush, simply open the brush preset picker and from the fly out menu, select import brushes. Browse to the folder where the file is located. Select it, and it will load into the brush panel ready to use. Now you have created a beautiful and artistic arte brush that you can use over and over again in your photo shop artwork if you need to. You can also make changes to this brush by modifying the original PSD file and re saving it as new brush. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and that it inspires you to create your own complex and artistic guard brushes, which are perfect for using in your photo shop artwork
