1. Paper Quilling Introduction: Hello everyone. My name is Trupti More I am paper quilling artist. It's been more than five years. I'm doing paper quilling So what is paper quilling? Paper Quilling is very beautiful art of rolling paper strips. Making different shapes and gluing those shapes together to make a lot of different beautiful things. Paper Quilling is not just art. It's good for your hand-eye coordination. It also helps in relaxation. And any one can do this beautiful art. So what can you make with paper quilling? With quillling You can make bookmarks. Magnets, ornaments, cards, jewelry, candle holder, photo holder, frames, and lots of different things Sky is the limit. So today, I'm going to teach you how to make paper quilling snowflake ornaments So let's get ready. 2. Paper Quilling Supplies: Now, let's see what supplies you need for any people quilling project. First important supply is slotted tool you will get different types of slotted tool In market. You can choose anyone of them. Next one is paper strips. You will get single colored paper strips, multi-colored paper strips You will get different width paper strip, different length paper strips. In next session, I will tell more about paper strips. Next one. Circle sizer. You can buy some small circle sizer or big circle sizer like that. You will need glue. Any glue that dries clear. Mostly I use this Elmore's school glue or if you have, you can use tacky glue. Next, important, supply is pins Then this kind of grid. You can get all these supplies online easily. If you have Hobby Lobby store near you, you can get these from hobby lobby or just go to Amazon.com and you can buy the supplies separately. Or you can just buy when kit. Today, we are going to make ornaments For that, you need one extra supply that is mod podge or clear nail polish or any clear varnish. We are going to use one of this product to make our ornament sturdy and durable. We also need a small paint brush to apply this mod podge. 3. Paper Quilling Strips: Now let me tell you more about paper strips You will get multicolor paper strips or single color paper strips. You will also get different length paper strips. So these paper strips are 21 inches long. These paper strips are 11 inches long. You will also get different width paper strips. The width of these paper strips is four millimeter. The width of these paper strips is five millimeters. And width of these paper strips is six millimeters. So for ornaments we're going to use five millimeter wide paper strips. You can buy these paper strips online. Or if you have different colored papers at your house, you can make your own paper strips. Let me show you. You can use any kind of paper to make strips. You can use regular printing paper, construction paper, card stock paper, newspaper. Or if we have any old book, you can use those pages. Now, let me show you how you can make strips with these papers using pasta cutting machine or strip cut paper shredder. You can use this paper shredder to make paper strips. Take one paper , fold it like this, and put paper like this, and roll it So you will have paper strips like this. This paper shredder. will give you 4 mm wide paper strips. But if you have pasta cutting machine, you can use that machine to make different width paper strips. Now let me show you how to use paper. cutting knife to make these strips, we need one paper cutting mat, ruler, paper cutting knife and take one paper Now you have to make marks on this paper. I want to make 5 millimeter wide paper strips So starting from here, I'm going to make marks on five millimeter. Now turn the paper. And on opposite side, you can also make marks on five millimeter like this. Now, take paper cutting mat, paper cutting knife and align this ruler on first marks. Hold the ruler like this and cut paper strip You can use one sheet or multiple sheets to make your paper strips. Now. align the ruler. on second marks and cut it If you have paper cutter then you can use that to make your strips. Or if you have, Cricut or Silhouette machine, you can also use that machine to make strips. So you can buy paper strips or cut your own paper strips at home. 4. How to make Grid With Base?: Now, I will show you how to make base this grid. In the resource section, I have attached the file of this grid You can download that file and take a print out. And cut that paper in square. If you don't have printer, it's fine. You can take a one square paper. And you will also need same size. thick card board or foam board. So if you don't have a printer, I will show you how to draw this kind of grid on paper. Take any square paper, pencil and ruler Align the ruler on the corners, opposite corners, and draw line. Now. Next two corners And draw line. Now, you got this center point. Now we are going to draw vertical lines from this side and from the site. And other side So you will have lines like this, now take cardboard and put this on the cardboard. Now we also need clear plastic bag or plastic paper. If you have clear plastic wrap, you can wrap this whole thing with that. Or if you have clear plastic bag, you can just keep this grid inside the bag. We are going to use this grid. when we will make ornaments. 5. Basic Shapes: Tight Coil: Now let's learn some basic shapes that we are going to use to make ornaments. First take glue and Tick paper. Put glue on the paper Take one pin and keep this aside. If you have glue bottle like this, you can use this bottle. We are learning the shapes. So you can use any width paper strips. Take one paper strip and feel the strip. One side of this strip will be little bit rough and other side will be little bit smooth. So face rough part of the strip towards you. take one slotted tool This tool has one slot. So you have to put strip inside the slot, like this and keep just tinny bit strip outside and hold your fingers like this for support and roll it gently. Don't give too much pressure. If you want you can hold your fingers like this. and roll it, Roll whole strip Now take tiny bit glue with pin And put glue here. Glue it like this. Hold it for few seconds. Now, remove coil like this. So this is tight coil. Let me show you again. Take one strip, fill the strip face the rough side towards you, and put the strip inside the slot and keep little bit paper out. Now, roll this gently. you have to roll it very gently. if you want you can hold your fingers like this. And now take tiny bit glue. Put it here and hold it for few seconds. remove coil like this. So this is tight coil 6. Basic Shapes: Loose Coil: Now let's learn loose coil Take one strip face the rough side towards you insert strip inside the slot, keep little bit strip out and roll it. You have to roll it very gently Don't press these finger, we're just using these fingers for support. roll it Now, remove this coil immediately. And keep it on the table, let it open. Now, take tiny bit glue. Put glue on the open edge and glue it like this, hold it for a few seconds. So this is loose coil. Let me show you again take one strip and roll it and remove it immediately. If you hold this coil like this for long time, your coil will not open nicely. If you want, you can just open it like this on your fingers. Now. Take little bit glue and put glue here, and hold it for a few seconds. So this is loose coil 7. How to use Circle Sizer?: Now let's see how to use this circle sizer to make same size loose coil. Take one strip and decide which size circle you want to make it. I want to make size 15 circle. So I'm going to put this in size 15 circle. Hold it like this take tiny bit glue This is opening, so put glue here. Take one pin. Hold it for a few seconds. Now One coil is ready. To make same-size coil Take another strip. Roll it Now we are going to use same circle to make same size loose coil, and remove it keep it. hold it ..take glue take and hold it for a few seconds. If you want you can take base board and keep circle sizer on that. that push pin. Like this. This way you can make same size loose coils. 8. Basic Shapes: Teardrop: Now let's learn teardrop To make teardrop you need loose coil and we are going to pinch this loose coil find the glued part. So this is the glued part of the coiled. move center of the coil opposite to the glued part. And you have to pinch at the glued part But it's very important to pinch at the glued part if you pinch at the glued part finishing of Shape will look smooth. If you will not pinch at the glued part you will see bump around it. So remember to pinch at glued part. so this is Teardrop. Let me show you again Take one, loose coil Find the glued part. Moves center of the coil opposite to glued part and pinch it. So this is Teardrop 9. Basic Shapes: Eye Shape: Now let's learn Eye Shape Take one loose coil. Find the glued part now hold coil like this And this is glued part. Hold coil like this and pinch it from both sites. So this is eye shape. Let me show you again. Find the glued part. Whole coil like this and pinch on both sides. So this is Eye shape. 10. Basic Shapes: Double Curved Eye Shape: Let's learn double curved eye shape First we are going to make eye shape pinch like this, make eye shape. Now You're going to turn your hand like this. So this is double curved eye shape Let me show you again. Take loose coil, find glued part hold it like this and pinch it Make eye shape, and move your hand like this. So this is double curved eye shape 11. Basic Shapes: Crescent Shape: Let's learn crescent shape. Take loose coil and slotted tool, find the glued part So glued part is here, Hold coil like this and push slotted tool like this and bring these two fingers forward like this. So this is crescent shape. Let me show you again. Find the glued part hold coil like this and press Tool inside like this and bring forward like this. So this is crescent shape. So to make ornaments we are going to use tight coil, loose coil, teardrop shape. eye shape, double curved eye shape and crescent shape. 12. Project: First Snowflake Ornament: You just learn different shapes that you need to make, snowflake ornament. Now we will make one ornament First, take circle sizer and put it on your grid base If you bought a big circle size or you may have base like this. Now, I am going to use these two colors. You can use any colors. The lenght of these strips is almost 18 inches and width is five millimeter. You may get strips in multiple colors. Now, I will show you how to remove strips from this pack. Removing strips from side is very easy. Like this. You can remove it But if you want to remove strip from the middle, you have to be very careful. move strips like this and grab one strip, hold it like this and remove it gently. Now other side. Same thing. remove it very gently You have to be very careful when you remove strips. If you're not careful, you will have mess like this. then it will be little bit hard to store these strips. So be careful while removing strips. So this is circle sizer It has numbers. So each number means the diameter of this circle. First, I'm going to make eye shape this whole strip. So take strip and roll it. remove it And I'm going to use number 20. That means diameter of this coil is 20 millimeter. hold coil like this Use glue. Put tiny bit glue. Use pin when I hold it like this. Or you can just push it like this. One pin inside, one pin outside, you can leave itl like this. Now, this coil is dried. hold fingers like this and remove pins remove the coil Make Eye shape like this. We need total 8 eye shapes. So let's make seven more eye shapes and then we will see how to assemble. these eye shapes So these are my 8 eye shapes Now we will assemble them, take one eye shape and put glue on sides And in the middle, now we need the base with grid We're going to glue all the shapes here in the middle. So put one eye shape there. Take one pin and push the pin so that, that shape, will remain there Now take another pin and push it here. Now we have to glue all eye shapes like this. And remember to push pins So after gluing all eight eye shapes, your creation will look like this. Now let's make next shape. For next shape, I'm going to choose another color. Take whole strip roll it take circle sizer And use same 20 millimeter diameter circle, hold and put glue. Now we are going to make Crescent shape. Hold it like this. now remove the coil and Push this slotted tool inside and push coil like this so this is Crescent shape. You need eight of these crescent shapes Now. Let's glue these crescent shape. take one shape ,put glue on both corners and arrange shape like this. And use pins. push pins Just like this, you have to glue all crescent shapes. After gluing all crescent shape. your ornament will look like this. Next, we are going to make tear drop with this color I'm going to use one fourth strips so fold strip into half. cut it .again fold strip into half and cut it we are going to use one fourth strip. Roll this strip. We are going to make teardrop small teardrop remove it And check number 11 circle. Put this in number 11 circle. Make loose coil, remove it and make teardrop So you need eight teardrops. Now let's glue teardrops. take one teardrop, put glue here. And just glue teardrop in between two crescent shapes So this is first ornament let this dry completely. It may take 20 to 25 minutes. Now this ornament is completely dried now I will show you how to remove these pins hold your fingers like this and remove pins If you remove pins like this, without holding your fingers, sometimes middle part will come out like this. So hold your fingers like this. remove pins and remove ornament gently 13. Project: Second Snowflake Ornament: Now let's make one more ornament For this I am going to use cardstock strips . Width is 5 mm and length is 11 inches, First shape, we are going to make is teardrop. So take full length strip and roll it. This time, I'm going to use numbers 17 circle. That means diameter of coil will be 17 millimeter. take glue put glue now remove this, move center opposite to glued part and pinch it So this is teardrop. Now I'm going to take white strip Put glue here. Wrap this white strip. Two times. around this teardrop. Put glue , hold it and cut extra strip. So you need to make eight teardrops like this. My 8 tear drops are ready Now, observe these teardrops. You can see the lines going on one direction. So while gluing where we had to make sure that we are gluing, deal such a way that all teardrops are going on same directions. So take teardrop, put the glue. use grid. So I'm going to put one pin here. Now. Next teardrop, put glue. Now, you can see here the lines are going this way. So my second tear drop, I'm going to put like this. Then put pin. Now you can see here both. teardrops are in right directions, just like this. Glue all 8 teardrops So after gluing 8 teardrops your ornament will look like this. For next round, we're going to make double curved eye shape. Take one full strip And this time I'm going to use number 17 Circle. keep it and put glue , remove it Now first make eye shape like this. And then move one hand down So you will have double curved eye shape You need 16 double curved eye shape Now let's glue these 16 double curved eye shapes Take when one eye shape, put glue here. Take another eye shape Glue it like this. And you are going to put glue on the corner of 2 petals put 2 eye shapes like this Put some pins like this. Take one eye shape Put glue. Glue it. Now put glue in between Here. double curved eye shapes We're going to glue these two shapes together. So take pin movie it little bit and put pin be next move and put pin like this. We are going to glue all double curved eye shapes So after gluing 16 double curved eye shapes your ornament will look like this. For next layer, I'm taking half strip, fold strip into half take scissor and cut it. I'm going to make teardrops with this half strip. Roll it Now take circle sizer And this time I'm going to use number 11 circle put coil inside that ..take tiny bit glue hold it Now remove is and make teardrop You will need to make 8 teardrops. Take one teardrop put glue like this Glue, tear drop here like this. now you have to glue all teardrops like this Just remember to glue the drops on same direction. Now for last layer I am taking half strip If your strips are big, you can take one fourth strip And I'm going to make tight coil with this half strip Put glue. Hold it for a few seconds. So you need eight tight coils Now, let's glue. tight coils. While gluing tight coil check glued part and put glue, there we're hiding the glued parts so that tight coil will look smooth. So check the glued part. Put glue, glue and glue that part to the ornament After gluing. All tight coils your ornament will look like this. When you make flower or ornament Sometimes you will see gap like this. If you want. You can keep a gap like that only. Or you can make small tight coil. And you can put tight coil inside or glue any half pearl you can glue on top of this For this ornament, I am going to put one small tight code inside this, in this space. I made small tight coil. Put glue inside like this. Push tight, going. Like this. So our second ornament is ready 14. How to make ornament sturdy?: Now this snowflake is dried. Let's remove pins Remember to put your fingers like this. And then remove pins and remove ornament gently. So your second snowflake, is ready You can use this snowflake for greeting card or You can frame it and giving us a gift. Now, observe this snowflake, if you push your finger inside, you can see the paper strip. The paper strip is coming up. That means this ornament is not sturdy . To make this ornament sturdy 00:01:17.105 --> 00:01:26.120 we're going to use mode podge or clear nail polish or varnish. If you don't have mod podge or clear nail polish or varnish you can use your regular glue. Just add little bit of water in the glue and mix it. I'm going to use clear varnish Take one container or any lid and varnish or mod podge in the container. We are going to apply this varnish on the snowflake. so take tiny bit varnish and start with edges just cover all edges with varnish Like this. Once you're done with edges, we're gonna put varnish on one side you can hold snowflake, like this and put varnish Be careful. now I am done with applying varnish on edges now, take one and keep snowflake on that board. We also need one pin. You can hold snowflake like this. and. apply varnish on top like this don't apply too much. Just little bit cover all shapes with varnish Now I applied varnish on one side. Let this dry for a couple of hours. Then flip this snowflake and apply varnish on other site. Then let it dry for seven to eight hours. I will suggest over night, That will be good. Now you can check. My ornaments are completely dried and if you poke it they will not go outside. You can check it. Now. You can take one string, any string and just put string like this. Make one. knot So this is first ornament Just now we're put string in our other ornament and put knot So your two ornaments are Ready. 15. Ornament Photos: Both of these plasma. Okay. 16.
