Project Description

Paper Crafted Hole-Punch Tree

During this class, you will create a work of art out of a simple tree-trunk drawing and hole-punched paper that you texture yourself.

Supplies you will need:

  • a pencil to sketch
  • 2 sheets of watercolor or mixed media paper
  • watercolor paint
  • a marker or ink pen
  • two or three hole punches of different sizes
  • scissors
  • glue

The Steps:

Draw your Tree Trunk

  • In marker, draw the trunk of a tree (this video is the longest, because I talk you through it while I draw real-time)
  • Snap a picture of it, start your Class Project
  • Upload your drawing of a trunk of a tree to your Project and comment on how you feel it went

Create your Leaf texture

  • Pick your paint and your colors and create your texture
  • Snap a picture and Edit your Class Project, adding it in

Add meaning

  • Pick either song lyrics, a poem, quote, story, or any other meaningful text to your painted texture
  • Share it - paste the text you chose to your class project

Punch it out & Put it together

  • Hole punch your textured paper to create leaves
  • Glue it all down to create a final product worthy of your walls
  • Snap a picture and share your final product by editing your class project

You can, of course, use only part of the idea for this project and make it your own. Still post your work under Class Projects - I would love to see what you've come up with!
