1. Gh5 Intro: all right. My name is Greg Hung. I'm a Canadian travel videographer. Some of you may know me from my aerial video courses or stock footage, courses or my living guides. This course is all about the Panasonic GH five. This is a revolutionary four came airless 4/3 camera and I made this course. Or people that are new to four came airless cameras that one learn how to do effective video or people that are coming from the SLR Canon camera world that got into video and now one in transition into a four came airless camera. I want to remove the barriers so that you can use this camera effectively for a great video and learn how to unlock its full potential. I'm going to cover some of the photography features, but mainly focus on the video features, studio setups and entire workflow for how we can use the footage from this camera toe actually make things like talking head videos or footage that we can use for stock footage agencies. I hope you enjoy those course. Check out the free lessons and I hope to see you in there 2. GH5 quick setup: in this video. I'm gonna help you get set up as quickly as possible so you can get ready to shoot photos or video. The first thing you'll need to do is charge your battery. I got a lens that came with it lens kit. I got the like a 12 60 so I attached the lens. I got the lens hood on. You also need to inserts a memory cards. There's dual card slots in this camera, which is very nice. If you run out of memory on one card, it will start to record on the other. You'll need to turn on the camera and flip the display out. Now if you're new to this camera and you just want to get started shooting nothing too fancy. What it would do is look at the right wheel and set it to I. A. I A is equivalent off automatic mode. If you're familiar with SL ours and and take a photo, you simply press down on the shutter and you can select on the lens of its auto focus or Emanuel and then just press halfway down the shutter and press it down to take a photo just like you do with SLR cameras to record video. You'll see the button with the red docked, and you compress that to record video. You'll see the red dot flashing or the second interval incremental up toe let you know that you're recording video, and you also see which card slot. It's recording, too, if you look on the screen, okay, if you want to check your videos, you can select the preview button over here and you can see the other videos I've done. You could just slide through its touch screen. If you want to see the rest of your clips and photos in tiled form, you can click that. And if you want to get back, you can always just press that. And that, in a nutshell, is how you can shoot in auto. The controls are not the most intuitive, but I think you can get used to them to shoot some basic shots. So let's look at something a bit more events. Let's go over to manual mode. So to go to manual mode, we're going Teoh, select the wheel to em Now. If we look at the screen over here, we can see that we have a aperture of F 2.8 so we can adjust that by using the wheel over here. So the top wheel at the front, the top right, this little just the opera chur. So I have an aperture of 2.8. And if I wanted just my shutter speed, I use this wheel at the back on the right side to just my shutter speed to adjust. The is so there is a button at the top that says so and to just the value. I use the back dial here, so a little bit different. Then it is for Canon, but that's how you can do it in manual. And once you have your value set, you can slicked I so and let's just say we want to record something over there. Let's just say that monitor. So the lens is on auto focus, so we can just hit record so you can see we're doing a recording there. All right, let's say we're doing manual, so I'm gonna switch the Len over to manual setting. Now, when I'm filming in manual mode, you'll see that it automatically zooms in so the I can adjust my focus on the display, which is very nice. And then once I start recording, it goes back to the regular view. So that's if you're in manual focus mode. The other mode that there is is the creative mode. The major difference I've found between these two modes is that in manual mode, your photo shutter button will still take photos, and the record will do videos. But in the video creative mode, it's gonna do video even if you press the video. But in the creative video mode, even when you press the photo shutter button, it's gonna take video. What I really like about this camera in manual and video modes is that if you put your eye to the viewfinder, this sensor here will actually the tech that your eyes, they're So then the display over here will now shift inside, which is really good. If you want to focus on something doing video, especially if it's bright outside. This really makes a huge difference. And this is a really nice feature, one of my favorite features about this camera. All right, so we've covered our basics here. I'm assuming you have some knowledge of I so shutter and aperture for video. If not, please check one of my other videos to explain those fundamentals. But this is how you can set it up on the GH five. 3. GH5 photography: you guys were in the came again and I just wanted to cover some of the photo functions in a bit more detail. This is Ah, quick and dirty guide to doing photos with the GH five, and we're gonna go through some photos I've taken out in the field and analyze them. But I'm gonna share my results here. So for the most part, if you're in I A modes which is intelligent auto and you want to take a photo, I recommend leaving the lens on auto. And as far as your autofocus moods, FS is if you have more of a static subject, F C, you can switch here ISMM or if you have someone who's moving and you want to get their face and then I m f is where manual focus. I found the results to be mixed when I haven't in this set up. Let's just take a photo, for example, and you also have to pay attention to this left wheel here. So if you just want to take a normal single shot, you leave it in this icon here with just one rectangle, and then you can take the shot. Now, when you're out in the fields. There is an icon. It'll turn blue. If that's the optimal conditions for taking the photo, you won't be able to see here. Probably because we're underground and is not natural delight. But you can go ahead and press the shutter on halfway. Can see the auto focus points and let's just take a look. It's OK, right? And then, if we want to review the settings in detail, we can press display. You can see it's F 2.8 isil 6 40 shutter speed 60 a little bit under exposed so we can try some different setups. I've been experimenting with aperture priority so you can change the aperture than ill make the other decisions. So being in the stark lit area, we want have 2.8. So the apertures open. All right, let's just change the display there. It's more or less the same I found. If you really want to get a great photo, you gotta go on manual. And so what I'm gonna do is just take a look at the settings here, and then I'll make the adjustments. So this one was. I saw 6400 of 2.8. So maybe we need a longer shutter speed. And so what I'm gonna do is adjust the shutter speeds so it's set to 200. Let's try this. Well, there we go. So that's the one that took on manual. And that's the one on aperture priority. And that's the intelligent auto. So far, I'm finding that the automatic Moz don't make the best choices. So if you really want to take a great photo, you have to put it on manual. That's a bit disappointing. Maybe it's the type of lens, but that's just my experience. Let's just go through some of the other photo moments here. So you want to take some rapid photos? You can put it in this mode here. I'll just go in front of the camera and I'll be a subject. Flip the screen around and okay, let's put it in auto focus. Continuous mode. It is K k tap to focus. All right, let's see how that looked not bad. So I took some rapid photos in succession. This one is for self timer. I get mixed up between these two. The one on the end is time lapse. You'll see there that it's got a different menu. So this one is for setting an interval, and you can adjust the interval in the menu. So this is good. If you want toe, take a photo and maybe of yourself want some time to set up, So I'm just going to set it on 10 seconds. I'll show you what it looks like. Okay, has taken some experimenting. This is a different photo taking experience than with my Canon six D, I find. With the GH five, you have to set slower shutter speeds to get the results that I wanted with this camera. And I do have external lighting here. I've got a led light. All right, so we're rejoining and the time lapse is almost done. There's one more shot and let's take a look at the workflow. So let's bring this over here so it's not distracting you. So it's asking, Do you want to create the video now? Yes, of course. They wanted to create the video now, and so we have some choices to make. We can set the frame rates. I just said it 30 frames, and it's going to be full HD and before fall, and then we can choose. If you want to do it in reverse. Let's just do this one in reverse. Just for fun on hit. Okay? Create time. One minute proceeds. Yes, please. And it's gonna go ahead and create the video. So let's play it. There we go. So that's how we create a time lapse with the GH five and have the camera actually create the time lapse video in the camera. That's pretty cool. 4. GH 5 Video shooting experience: hi. In this video, I'm going to talk about the video shooting experience with the GH five. At the beginning, I have to admit it was a bit of a struggle to figure out some of the controls I have been used to on my canon. Asshole are. But once I learned what the controls were, this camera was a lot of fun to use. For starters, you can use four K at 60 frames per second. This is a little bit hard to find, but I've covered a video to help you figure this out. So shooting four K 60 frames per second during the day just looks amazing. And you can also use the viewfinder to focus on your subjects so that it's too bright. It's very easy to see in the viewfinder where your subject is, and the built in Peking allows you to focus on your subject very clearly. You've also got the touch panel, which flips out and it flips around so you can do talking. Have videos and a one person set up. You can plug in a microphone to enhance the sound, and you can plug in your headphones to monitor that sound so there's a lot of good video features in the G age five, and the footage does look amazing. The one drawback about the Jewish five. Aside from the price aside from the lens adapters, if you have canon lenses that you will have to investing is the low light footage. I found that shooting evening footage Once I got up to 3200. The footage was not so good. It may be the lens that I'm using. The aperture might not be low enough, but I've also heard of similar results from other videographers complaining about the low lights. So if there's one major drawback, I would have to say it's the low light footage. But I think if you're investing in this camera, you've got something future proof. It's pretty solid, so you can be pretty confident in your purchase here, and it's capable of a lot 5. Gh5 setting up super slomo: all right. In this video, I'm gonna show you how to set the resolution of frame rates soaking as super smooth, slow motion. First thing we need to do is change the mode to create a video mode That's the M with a camera icon. And then we're gonna go into the menu by pressing menu set. Now we can select the video resolution. If we go to Tiu the regular camera, go to the first page, select recording quality and note that I'm using MP four l p c m. So we have the different resolutions there, and it's showing us the frame rates resolution, the data rates. What we're looking for is the four k option with VFR available with this icon, which is creative video mode. So we're gonna select this and then when we need to do is go up and then go to variable frame rates, go to set and notice. This part can be a bit confusing because what we really want is 60 frames per second. All right, so the frame rate 60 frames per second recording frame rate is 29.97 So I want to press set on the actual screen and when were actually recording, you can press the shutter. It's not gonna actually say 60 frames per second, so let's just punch record. Okay, so it says 50% but it's little size 30 frames per second, but it's really recording at 60 frames per second. All right, let's just preview that. So for 1 80 p, we would go to recording quality, go down to the 10. 80 p. Options. So 1920 and 59.94 which is almost 60 frames VFR available. All right, let me just go back up to make sure I didn't. This one? No. All right. So this is the eight, but 60 frames per 2nd 100 megabit data rate. I'm going to select this, and then I'm going to go up to variable frame rates. We're going to go to sets and move the nipple up to 180 frames per seconds, and then I'm gonna press set. All right, So that's how we can set the difference. Frame rates with different video resolutions so we can get super slow, mo. And remember, you have to be in the creative video mode, which is this icon on the wheel on the top, right off your GH wife. Okay, 6. Gh5 video 1 vancouver: 7. Gh5 vlog setup 1: all right. In this video, I'm going to show you a potential vlogging set up that you can use with this camera. Or if you're doing, talking head one of the benefits of this cameras that has got the auto continuous focus. And it's also got this panel which we can flip around. So to set this up, we're gonna flip the screen around and I'll show the other side in the second here. And we want to make sure we're on auto focused, continuous. And we also want to switch the lens to auto focus asses well, and now we can flip over to the other side and plug in my microphone because we also want to simulate of logging or talking. Had video set up where you only have one person. Okay, here is my tests. Here is my test flogging set up. I've got the live my plugged into the GH five and I've got the screen flipped around. I've got the lens set to a wide setting on auto focus. I've got the camera set to a f c autofocus and let's check out the results on the computer . Okay, 8. Gh5 vlog in gastown: Hey, this is Greg and we're doing a belong here. Let's show you where one of my favorite coffee shops in Vancouver is. So let's go. My core space. Okay, we're leaving the building for the coric space. I like the brick exposed brick look. The wooden beams. This is reminiscent off the gas town gas home Look, Gas Town is a trendy heritage area, and Vancouver found JJ being really town, so let's check it out. Uh, can I get a medium medium? This is actually where they do the head baking for JJ Bean, my favorite coffee shop. That gives you an idea how you can use the Jade Five as a expensive blogging machine. That's not the best for a little light or for processing, but it's an easy set up. We have a live my on. I'm sure I could tweet. The picture gets better results, but look at the lens you're using. I think this lens is not the best light, so make good. Use some natural lights because if you're blogging, you can't set it up manually because you have to constantly adjust picture. In fact, let me do that now and see if I could maintain a better picture on the way back. Well, okay, I've set up GH five on manual. Andi, I'm actually getting better lighting now because it's on fixed settings now. The sun is changing directions. It's shining behind me. So it's not gonna just This is why it's better toe shoot an intelligent auto, even though we couldn't get better settings on manual. All right, so I'm gonna wrap up this blawg. Hope you enjoyed it. Andi, if you come to Vancouver, try up Jaeggi being coffee. 9. GH5 Summary: Hey there. Congratulations on finishing course. I hope you enjoyed it. And I hope you learned a lot. We are just scratching the surface with this thing. Believe it or not, it's capable of a lot. And there are some things that I didn't get into. The color profiles shooting in different profiles that will flatten out the image so you have more to work with in postproduction. I'm not a colorist, so you know that's out of my scope. But just keep that in mind that you can shoot in different color profiles that are going to give you a lot more to work with in post production. And you can actually get V long upgrade from Panasonic that will allow you to get a lot more out of the picture. There are also people that are using devices external devices that complement the GH five to really take the high data bit rates from the video so they can really get more horsepower. Maura out of the picture video picture with this camera. Those were some things that I didn't even get to. There's also lends doctors so you can use your canon lenses with the GH five using the many bones adapter. But what did we cover? We covered a lot. We covered how to shoot video with this thing with a different resolutions in studio setups like I'm doing now or green screen setups. We went out to the field to give this thing a test drive. We tested this in low light conditions. I hopefully demystified some of the complexity of this camera. There is a lot to explore this camera. I think this cameras perfectly suited for someone who's doing stock footage like myself because of the stabilization and the high quality picture. Again, I'm very disappointed with a little light performance, and maybe that's the type of lens that have been using for this course. But the Sony A seven s two is Lou, known as the Blue Light Monster. So if night video footage is your thing, you may want to look at that camera. I think longer Zor talking had video. People will love this camera. The flip panel was so useful and the autofocus was very effective, and I love how it's got the features built in like the microphone and the head Jack so you can record straight out of the camera. The deal card slots were very nice and ah, the four K 60 frames per second. Very beautiful. Thanks again. We're taking the course. I hope you enjoyed it. Hope you learned a lot. GH5 Bonus Content: Hi. This is Greg Hung again. And thanks for taking the Panasonic GH five course. This is a bonus section. I've been using the GH five extensively over in Bangkok and Chiang Mai in Thailand and I got a deeper dive into some of the features of the GH five. So enjoy the content and here we go. 11. GH5 framerates and recording quality firmware 2: I was video. We're gonna cover some tips for actually filming with the Panasonic GH five. We want to flip the wheel into movie mode. I set the recording format to MP four l PCM. That gives me options to use the variable frame rates and so higher quality if you've updated to firmware to piano, which I recommend you again to get more options to change a recording quality. So let's dive into this menu here. So one of the changes were firmer. Cheap, we know is you can film full four K up to 400 megabits per second. At 10 bits, you can do 1 50 There's so many different options here to choose from, so I'm just gonna share which ones that I actually use. If I'm doing a talking head video or just regular HD, I like to do eight bits. If you want a little bit higher quality, you can go over to 10 bits. The 2nd 1 that I use quite a lot is the ultra four K with VF are available. It's 30 frames per second, this one over here, and the reason is, Aiken set this too slow motion. But to do the slow motion. You have to do a second step. You have to dive into here, and then you have to move up to this menu and set variable frame rates to 60 frames. If you want slow motion, it's a bit of a hassle, so I'm gonna cover how you can save this setting into the custom menu so you don't have to constantly change the setting. But I'll use this resolution and frame require launch for slow motion four K, and the other option that I've been filming at is true four K at 10 bits, but this puts a strain on my computer. I found that I cant view these on my Mac unless I import them into final compra wax, so that's a little bit annoying and it just takes a little bit longer. The fouls are gonna be larger to upload, so another option is the eight version off full four K at 100 megabits. So this is what I've been filming most of my stock footage, with its at 24 frames still a pretty good picture, and you can view these on the Mac just if you want to give a quick preview. So I've been experimenting between 10 bits and a pits, and I'm going to see if that brings me a better return on my sales. If I find the 10 but does well, then I'll shoot. Warn it. So there's a lot of options here. Up to 400 megabits per second is just gonna be too much office strain creating to larger files, making my computer work too hard, so I haven't used it yet, but there it is, available with the firm or 2.0 update. 12. GH5 stabilization: stabilisation for the Panasonic. GH five is one of the game changing features for me using this camera. I haven't shot with the tripod since owning the Panasonic Gauge five and a mainly due travel stock footage. So a lot of hand held shots in the field and stability is important. A certain amount of stability for stock footage agencies to accept it. And if you're just doing videos for travel, the stabilization on this will be amazing. I've used a DJ I Osma, which the stabilized that your stick with a gimbal and the stabilization is comparable. It's a little bit different on the GH five. So let's look at some of the areas that you need to have set toe have the stabilization and troubleshooting why you don't have stabilization because it's happened to me. I've given this camera to another photographer and take a photo, and he actually ended up turning it off. All right, so let's take a look at this screen. So how do we know we have the stabilization on? We've got this icon here with the hands and the area that we look to make sure the stabilization on is in the menu so we'll click. Menu sets had over to page three with the camera icon, click stabilizer and operation mode. I just set to the hands over here e stabilization. I leave on because I'm using mainly tripod shots. But if you're walking, you may want to turn this off. I s Lock is a stabilization feature available with the firmware version two updates, So I leave that on. All right, so that's what you need set up in the body. So the next area you need to check is on the lens If you're using a Panasonic lens and we just need to have power or I s set to on if it's off and you look at your screen here on the top, right is going to say off. So I've actually shocked with this off For whatever reason, this switch got turned off and it was a lot of the shots that I shot. Handheld were not usable because the switch was off. Now there's another level of stabilization that you can do, and I'll cover this in another video lesson. But it's in your video editors. So final cut Pro X gives you an option to further stabilize the footage in the video. Other. So this is another level stabilization, and you can do if you want absolute tripod stillness stability in your video picture. And I've used it using stabilisation with the GH five plus the video editing stabilization for a pretty super statue. Still type of video that simulates the tripods so actually haven't used a tripod, and I don't have a need to use it with the GH five. 13. GH5 6K photo mode: Hi. We're gonna cover the six K photo mode, so this mode is gonna shoot 30 frames per second. Really good. If you want to take photos off rapid movement like someone playing soccer or someone running and the goal here is it's gonna take rapid photos. You can pick from those photos later and pick the one that you want. You're probably not gonna want all 30. So to get into the photo moat, you can quit it in intelligence, Auto on the wheel. Now it's fast action you probably want to set. There's no appear to a F C on and to switch to the six K, but we on the left you can switch over to six K, and that's pretty much it. You need to put your shutter on halfway and hold down on the shutter, so the parts where you need to select the photo is you want to go over to your play button , so just come over here. So if you go in your play button here to preview your different footage, you'll see here there's a six K icon, so this means that you have six K photos and to choose when you want, you're gonna tap on it and you can tap on this icon again, so that will let you run through the different photos. And then you can pick the one that you want. So you can use this area here where the arrows are just the pick that still that you want. And once you find the one that you want, you can tap this icon six k with the circle that's gonna ask you to save this image that's going to say, processing six k four k photo noise processing and then is going to save the still. 14. GH5 adjusting the iso: out of the box. You need to make some changes if we're gonna be shooting a lot of video with the GH five. So we're gonna adjust the highest. So because by the faults, it's gonna ally to increment your eye. So from 200 to 400 But in most cases, you may want to use I So 100. So how do we change that? So we can go over to the menu over here, click menu sets. And if you click on the wrench with the sea, we can click on exposure. So going to extended I So turn that on and then we need to change isil increments to 1/3 TV . If it's just one, TV is gonna make larger jumps from 3200 to 1600. So we're gonna miss a lot of ice. So auctions toe change that Just change isil increments to 1/3 and remember, the isil button is on top and then we can use the wheel to change that. And then we have is so 100 15. Tips for filming a multi cam setup with 1 person: Hi, My name is Greg Hung. I'm a travel videographer in this video. I'm gonna give you some tips for doing a multi cam set up with just one person. So let's just start off with what the multi camps set up is. And why would you do it so simply, it's just to camera angles shot. Typically, you'd have one camera that's facing the person, and then you might have another camera angle to the side, shooting them from the side profile. But I've decided, since this is a tutorial, that you can look at the camera angle that's focused on the camera. So there's some challenges when you're doing a multi cam set up with one person. First of all is that it is difficult to set up the focus if you're the person talking from the camera as well. So I recommend for Camera one that you focus that on the person so your camera one would be your a camp for your better camera. I'm using the Panasonic GH five for a number of reasons. First, it has the flip out screen so I can actually see what the picture looks like while I'm recording it. also has a microphone inputs so I can plug a lab directly into the camera. So I don't need to record audio into this h five zoom, which means I have separate audio that I would need to sync with later. And we also have, um, a nice picture quality. I still have room on the hot shoe to place lighting over it and ah, my second cameras, the Canon SLR have got a 50 mil prime lens which has some nice boca. But it's difficult to focus if you just have one person. So what I'm doing is I just haven't focused on the camera on the GH five, so that's not going to move. So that's easy to set up. I also have my earphones plugged directly into the GH five so I can monitor the sound as I record it. Some other tips are to film both cameras in the same resolution. So full HD, same frame rate and if you can similar color profiles. And um, I like to use manual settings and ah, just adjust the exposure and the I s O so that Ah, if you have a light meter, that it's nice and balance. So right now I can see I'm using F 3 50 frames per second and 3 20 I So on the GH five and probably on the canon 60 it's an aperture f 1.4, but I think I'm using F 1.8. I saw 100 something like that. Okay, so those air some tips on how to do a multi cam set up with one person uh, las it will give you is that it's nice if the primary camera is within reaching this sense so I can actually adjust the focus and still see the picture. So I make sure that my picture is in focus. I'll probably look at the picture after and see that I'm not in focus, but, uh, yeah, those are some tips for filming the multi cam set up with one person. And in another video lesson, we're gonna show you how to take the footage from this multi cam set up into final cup, relax and show you how we can set up that Edits in final cut pro X 16. Tipsvlogginggh5b: Hi, This is great Kong. This video I want to share some my top tips for blogging. I've been blocking a lot with the Panasonic GH five, mainly because of the flip screen. The fact that I can plug in a live mic or shocking like to the camera and pretty much ready to go add to that that has got built in stabilization so I don't need a tripod. So it's easier to film high production stuff more than ever. On Day is just a large choice off frame rates, so I could do full four K or four k slo mo or even HD, So I'll focus in on some tips for blogging with the GH five first and then I'll cover more some general tips eso for the change five. I recommend using the flip screen. Of course, it helps for you to check that your in focus. Earlier on, I did a video on upgrading the firmware to 2.0, then checking the auto focus. I no longer trust the auto focus on the GH five, so my set up is I'll put it into manual and I'll try to film it pretty close. So I can adjust the lens barrel like so, and I'll make sure I'll turn on the Peking. So, um, the areas that are focused will have a tent, so I know their focus and then I'll hit record often. If I'm doing run a gun, I'll put it in aperture priority. So that's the ale A on the dial so that I don't have to worry about making those calculations for the shutter speed and the ice so I can just set the aperture. Basically, I always try to set it a 2.8 unless it's super bright and then on to select the camera, make the decisions. It's for his resolution. Um, if I don't know, use up too much memory card space, I'll just use HD. It's gonna be a lot easier editing those files, but if I also want to shoot some stock footage, I'll use four K full four K 24 frames, eight bits, so this creates high quality files. Those files have sound, and those files are manageable. If I used the the higher grade full four case, so we're talking, uh, 150 megabits per second or 400 megabits per second I can't preview those files on My Mac unless I import them into my video editor. I don't really have a need to use those higher grateful for K Falls. So four k eight, but is fine for me. Okay, so with the four k 60 frames, it's actually ultra four K. So the four K resolution off this type video, it's not as high and doesn't have sound, but it looks great. I wouldn't overdo the slow motion, but, um, as you're going to see on my general chips, it's nice having mixture off both. I like to set my favorites my favorite shooting profiles. So that's the resolution shutter speed. I saw all that. I like to send him to the custom settings on the on the wheel, the top So c one C two C three so it can easily access by shooting profiles based on the situation. Okay, And for audio, I use a lot of Mike. Uh, that's audio shotgun mikes more convenient if you have more than one person for shooting flogs. Uh, yes, So that covers shooting blog's for tips for the GH. Five of those cover some or general tips 17. GH5 Update using the camera for 3 years with footage samples: Hi, this is a bit of an update for the JH five mirrorless camera. It's the middle of 20-20 now, so this is about 3.5 years. I've had extensive use with this GH five camera. But whatever camera, mirrorless camera, you decided to choose the main features of a mirrorless camera that keep it relevant today, in my opinion, are the ability to shoot at different resolutions and frame rates, as well as bit rates. So this camera has the ability to shoot full 4K, ultra HD 4K. And even within those resolutions, you have choices of different bit and resolution rates. The settings. My favorite profiles that I've used are ultra 4K HD at 60 frames. Because of the different slow motion, I've done a lot of full HD at 24 frames because that's little good quality. It's still relevant in 20-20. And I want some of those smaller file sizes. I haven't actually use the full capabilities of the video power that this camera is capable of. So there's still many years that I think this camera will be future proof to me. The other features that I really liked about this camera is that it's got the flip out screen. This has proven to be handy for recording online courses where I just have a camera in front of me. I'm doing a YouTube video or online course. And if I've been shooting in very opera positions, this screen has proven to be so useful. I also have the ability to connect this camera to the app using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. And that's been useful for downloading the photos, but also being able to record remotely. Not that I use it that often. The other thing I really liked about the camera is a built-in stabilization in body, which has been really great to hand shoot with. And notice the stark contrast when shooting with my Canon SLR. And I think in 2020 and beyond, I mean, that's just the expectation that stabilization is going to be a lot smoother when you doing handheld diastolic handheld filming has become more popular. And you can do things like Perrier mirrorless camera with a gimble, like a DJI Ronin essentials kit. I'm not going to assemble it now, but a gimble like something like this really can take your filming with the mirrorless cameras to the next level because the Gimbal gives you added stabilization and new types of shots are unlocked. Paired with the power of your mirrorless cameras shoot 4K, you can really create higher production value then people can with their smartphone. Other features that have come in handy are the ability to shoot a 120 frames per second. You can even shoot up to a 180 frames when using full HD. Now I haven't fully unlocked that, but I've seen bloggers that have started to use a lot of speed ramping type of Video for you too, that has become very popular. The dual card slots have been really nice, having long battery life and unlimited recording time. The ability to plug in a mike and a headphone jack, as well as a USB, have all been very useful and much appreciated features that I've only appreciated once I've, you know, I've had to use my b camera, which is my Canon SLR 60, which I'm using right now, which is still good camera. But after using the GH five-year appreciate the video features that have been built into this camera without having up to upgrade it. And additional features like peaking, being able to have that blue highlighting when you're focusing. Having the ability to have the virtual Telecon murder, to zoom in even more with the lens that you have, have all been much appreciated. So in the next lesson I'm going to talk about the lens adapter, which allows you to extend the capabilities of your GH five, pairing it with different lenses from different manufacturers. So just to cap off the Panasonic change five camera, the Sony mirrorless cameras are still leading the pack. Specifically the Sony a 7-3. The A7 S2 was released quite awhile ago, about 433 to four years ago, and it's still really relevant for its low live performance. So as we filmed this, the A7 S3 may drop this year in 2020. And that's a much anticipated release because of the low light performance. The GH five has been an overall workhorse, a strong performer. The one downside I do have about x5 is delimited Lens selection, which we'll talk more about when talking about the lens adopters, as well as the low light performance. When taking out at nights, the sensors just to small and even when using a F1 0.4. lens, it still is just doesn't perform as well as my full-frame SLR camera when using an F1 point for lens. So those are my overall thoughts with the Panasonic J5 and 20-20 being really useful for stock footage online courses, pay corporate shoots. And it's been a really good investment these past 3.5 years. And I believe it's a good choice even if you want to still buy it in 2020, it's a really good value. They do have the newer model that GH 5S, which has better low-light performance, but I think the drawback is no Bolton stabilization into the camera body, which is really important for handheld shooting. All GH5 Lens footage samples Sigma: Alright, we're gonna talk about the use of a lens adapter for your mirrorless camera. So when talking about the Panasonic GH F5 and uses a, what we call a micro four-thirds mountains. So the issue with this is that because this is still a very new lens category, there isn't a lot of selection and the lenses do tend to be expensive. In my personal situation, I damage the lens that did come with this camera, which was a Leica 12, the 60 lens. And it was very expensive to repair. So that's when I started to look into the lens adapters, lenses by Meta bones. And there's also a manufacturer, will trucks, so they built these adapters so you can use your mirrorless camera with other manufacturers like Cannon, also from Nikon, I believe. So what this does is now I can use my 24105 lens and have the power and capabilities with the mirrorless camera, which is really great because cat and has a great selection of lenses, good high-quality lenses, and a lens like this, which is a 24105, was one of my favorite lenses. A lens adapter also gives you the benefit of giving an extra stop or more of light into the lens. So while this lens is an F four, F four aperture, by using the mounts, I get f 2.8. And this lens adapter is not too expensive. So I think it's a no brainer in terms of, you know, deciding if you want to operate your, your capabilities of the Panasonic x5, a lot of mirrorless camera owners ended up getting the meta bones lens adapter for canon because there was a lens made by sigma and 18 at 35. When paired with this mount, it gave them the ability to get up to, I believe, one f 1.8 aperture or lower with a very wide lens. And I do have some sample landscape footage that you can see shot with this setup. So yeah, so yeah, lens mount is very important, I believe, for any mirrorless camera owner to take advantage of the lens selection from the classic camera manufacturers like cannon. Every time I seemed to record in Vancouver and this seems to be some far tracker ambulance, but hopefully it goes away soon. In this video, I'm gonna be giving you my opinion what I think about the sigma H and the 35 F1 0.8 for canon. This is the popular combination with the past Songjiang x5. I've been trying what seems like forever to get a hat, get my hands on this lens and give it a try. And I'm lucky. Luckily, I mean Vancouver and their shops like Leo's camera supply that rent out these lenses. So I actually rented it on Thanksgiving weekend. So I got three days with this lens MIG h5 to test this out for 30-something box. So thanks, Leo supply. Check them out. If you're in Vancouver. They're legit camera shop. And so yeah, I've I took the Panasonic GH five with the Ville trucks lens adapter, with the sigma H and 35 for Canon and a ticket for a car ride. I've found a driver. My dad and sister draw me around. And I film with this setup on the DJI Rhone in this guy over here. And yeah, got some really good footage with this lens. So yeah, the Ronin combined with a G H5, this adapter, it's a very it's not an out-of-the-box setup and I've been the videography game for a while. So I just slowly accumulated the this gear that films amazing stuff and works well together. So the Ronin stabilizes everything. There is no stabilization in the sigma, but there is stabilization in the Panasonic x5 body. So looking at the footage, it is pretty smooth when paired with the Ronin and the GH five. So just be aware that you may get some shakiness from this lens also the lenses very long. It's longer than my 24105 lens. And yeah, it was pretty hard to balance on the Rhone. And because it is so long, there's only a few few adjustments, will few. This is a very low margin for error when setting up this lens on the Ronin. But when I use the cannon, it's a lot easier because the shorter lens, so I had to adjust the axis. You can see here that if for any Rowan and users that at the bottom axis here, I really had to pull it almost all the way to the end just so it would fit also on the beliefs of the robot. And see it's almost at the end setting here, same with this guy over here. But I managed to make it fits. And I'm very happy with the results of footage itself looks very sharp, eye like the wide look that you get from this. I also love the ability to film in low light. You can get up to F1 point to with the build trucks lens adapter. Although when you're filming very wide and a low aperture, you can't. Seem to get your peaking or your focus on objects that are close to. But you can, if you zoom in a little bit, you can get focus on objects that are further away from you. So just look out for that. I'm not sure if it's the lens adapter that's responsible for that or that's just the way this lens is. But no problem. I was still able to get a lot of good wide shots. And just looking at some of the footage here, it's in focus. One thing that you should be aware of is that I wasn't able to get higher than than f 11, this setup. So filming in Vancouver, autumn, which is usually not that bribed or we add some sunny days here. It actually was a little bit overexposed sometimes. So I was lucky I was filming 60 frames ultra four case, so that made it easier to not overexposed my footage. But overall, I think this is a great lens to complements. And AIG will, I would call your primary lens. Primary lens is 24105 because it covers a good range like wide and it gets close up. I would say that the 1835 is probably too wide to do interviews. I like to get a close up. And even with the virtual telecom inverter on the GH five, I still wasn't able to get close enough in some situations. I'd like to do lot of why do law corporate interviews. So this 24105 works for me. And before this, I used the, the Lumix Leica 1260, which came with the GS5. And that's a good all-purpose Native lens for all purpose work. But I would say this, yeah, this lens, depending on what you do, it's great for stock footage because it's so wide it can get the low lie. But for paid work, I would probably use this in probably as a b camera or stock footage, maybe some courses like I'm doing now it's it's good because the cameras sitting pretty close to me, but I'm slavery to get myself in frame. So nice for those kinda compacts situations. And yeah, it's selling for about 1000 Canadian before tax now. And if I were to purchase another complimentary lens, I would get the sigma 1835. So overall summary, This is good. This is a good setup if you're using a lens adapter with the passage H5. I mean, if you have a canon, Canon camera, you're going to get a wider law on a full frame. This is crop sensor, CH50, but it's still wide. I like the low-light performance. It is pretty sharp, good-quality Build. It is a long lens and yeah, that's it. And on the six-sigma 16 slot as wide as I would like, we're getting effective 32 millimeters. But it's smaller. It's not as long as the 1835. So there's quite a lot of room on the Gimbal still happen. Know what you think about the depth of field. Pretty clear. Schools where there's some nice slides. It's pretty, pretty nice. So there you have it. Enjoy the rest of the footage shot from the GH 5-6 millimeter on a Ronin Gimbal. It's a great lens for gimble because it's not too big and has the nice focal length, almost Thirty-five millimeters, which is wide enough to do some blogging, to walk around with it. And you can even do the 36 consumption mode, which works out very well with this lens. For Panasonic G5, users that have already invested in a build trucks, automatable, and speed booster. You may want to consider getting the segment 18 to 35. Instead, you get a wider focal length and you can get a lower aperture. Plus the sigma lands will work on canon APC and full-frame bodies, not including the cannon mirrorless bodies. Sigma 18 35 low light test in 4k 1: Hey, welcome to Vancouver. So I'm testing the sigma at 1835 for Cannon. Again on my Panasonic x5 with a Ronan S to tests a couple things to low-light performance, which you could see now. And also, how does it actually look like when they're shooting pretty wide, right? We're going to shoot a variety of shots to put this test to its limits. Were going to shoot high per lapses were shooting on the Panasonic H5 with the sigma to 1835, F1 0.8 with the build trucks EFM T2 adapter for canon, which according to my calculations, is about equivalent to 20.45 millimeters at the wide end. And you can get down to an aperture 1.2 with this lens adopter. Please note that we are shooting in for k and the sigma lends itself doesn't have stabilization, but the Panasonic GH five body does. And the Ronin should help a little bit. But when I'm walking forward, there is a little bit of bounce. And I also found out on the second day that there is an adjustment I needed to make on the build trucks, which included turning the glass clockwise so I could get sharper focus when the sigma lens was at its widest. We're talking 18 millimeter and which was a little bit soft on day one. After sharing some photos on the Panasonic GH five group, one of the members sent me this video that's suggested to cure the soft wide images on this setup. To take off the veil trucks, EFM to adopter and turn the glass clockwise. That actually worked. And on day two, I'm shooting handheld, stole shooting 4K. But you'll see a lot more wider shots that are sharper. So let me know what you think. I think we even got up to ISO 4 thousand at f 1.2 and we still get very clean images in the lowest of low light. Yeah. To finish off the last part, I shoot a variety of footage, ignores some food footage, some footage of me at my home office doing an online course to get a feel for what it looks like with control conditions with some additional lighting. And I have to say overall, I'm very happy with the versatility of this lens that has a very clean and sharp image. Very good broke. But this lens is pretty big, especially when I attach it to my Ronan S gimble at rarely has enough clearance and the lens is pretty heavy. For the price, I think you get a lot of versatility with this lens and it doubles as a very good lens to shoot in wide situations. And you can shoot him very low lights compensating for the GH five micro, four-thirds small sensor.
